TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE 2001 SILVERADO WITH THE SAME ENGINE, BUT NOT FOR THE SUBURBAN. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 92,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED A NOISE WAS HEARD AND THE VEHICLE HESITATED WHILE TRAVELING VARIOUS SPEEDS. A NHTSA RECALL #05V155000 CONCERNING THE FUEL PUMP WAS PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE A YEAR AGO. A LEAK WAS NOW NOTICED UNDER THE VEHICLE IN THE DRIVEWAY. IT WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO DETERMINED THE FUEL PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED HOWEVER; IT WAS NOT COVERED BY AN UPDATE OF THE RECALL.
TRANSMISSION ON A 2001 CHEVY SUBURBAN WITH 76000 MILES FAILED WHILE ON EXPRESSWAY ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. *NM
STEERING,FUEL PUMP MODULE,WIRES CONNECTORS. I TOOK IT IN TO FIX BUT I HAD TO PAY FOR IT $ 1.054 WHY IF THERE'S A RECALL ON IT THAT WAS JUST FOR THEFUEL PUMP MODUEL CALL ME ABOUT THIS
THE PARKING BRAKES HAVE FAILED AND UNABLE TO RESTRICT MOVEMENT OF THE VEHICLE. THIS WAS DISCOVERED WHILE A SAFETY INSPECTION WAS PERFORMED. THE COST TO REPAIR THE PARKING BRAKE SYSTEM IS EXTENSIVE. *NM
PARKING BRAKE DID NOT DISENGAGE ON DRIVERS SIDE, REMOVAL OF WHEEL AND DISC SHOWED ACTUATING MECHANISM NOT FULLY RETRACTED, FIXED BY PUSHING ACTUATING LEVER TOWARDS WHEEL TO "REST LEVER". EXTREMELY POOR DESIGN. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE DRIVER'S SIDE REARVIEW MIRROR WAS REFLECTING DOUBLE IMAGES CAUSING CONFUSION WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DETERMINED THE MIRROR DELAMINATED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING TO WORK AND THE ABS LIGHT CAME ON. THIS WAS ACCOMPANIED BY A LOUD NOISE FROM UNDERNEATH THE SUBURBAN. AFTER THE CAR WAS SHUT OFF THE LOUD NOISE PERSISTED. SHE TURNED THE CAR OFF AND ON SEVERAL TIMES AND THERE WAS STILL A LOUD NOISE. SHE CALLED ME AND I CAME OVER TO HER WORK AND CRAWLED UNDER THE CAR. I FOUND THAT THE ELECTRIC MOTOR ON THE ELECTRO-HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT (EHCU) WAS CONSTANTLY RUNNING AND THE UNIT WAS VERY HOT. THE ONLY WAY TO STOP THE UNIT FROM RUNNING WAS TO DISCONNECT THE POWER HARNESS. THE EHCU IS RIGHT NEXT TO THE FUEL FILTER AND IT WAS SO HOT THAT IT COULD HAVE CAUSED A FIRE IN THE FUEL LINE/FUEL FILTER IF I HAD NOT DISCONNECTED IT. IT MIGHT HAVE ALSO GOT HOT ENOUGH TO START THE CAR INTERIOR ON FIRE. THERE SHOULD BE SOME SORT OF SHUT OFF MECHANISM WHEN THE EHCU FAILS. I TALKED TO A NUMBER OF MECHANICS AND THEY SAID THAT THE PROBLEM IS NORMALLY WITH A RELAY IN THE EHCU AND THIS CAUSES THE MOTOR TO RUN NON-STOP. THEY SAID THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM FOR 1999 + CHEVROLET SILVERADO, GMC SIERRA, AND THE 2000 + CHEVROLET SUBURBAN/TAHOE AND THE GMC YUKON/YUKON XL. THEY THOUGHT THERE WAS PROBABLY A RECALL ON THEM BUT APPARENTLY THERE IS NOT. THE PART IS ONLY AVAILABLE FROM THE DEALER AND COSTS APPROXIMATELY $950. IT TAKES ALMOST TWO HOURS OF LABOR TO INSTALL IT SO THE REPAIR COSTS ABOUT $1150. THE SUBURBAN IS NOW IN THE SHOP BEING REPAIRED. THE CAR ONLY HAS 51,000 MILES AND THIS MODULE SHOULD NOT FAIL WITH SUCH LOW MILES AND IT SHOULD NOT COST NEARLY THIS MUCH TO REPAIR. *NM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN 1500. WHEN ATTEMPTING TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN, THE STEERING FROZE AND THEN CORRECTED ITSELF. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED. THE PURCHASE DATE WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 131,186 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,000.
ABS MODULE FAILED @ 37,000 MI AND AGAIN @ 67,000 MI. DEALER CHARGED APPROX. 1200.00 EACH TIME. *JB
BOUGHT A USED 01 SUBURBAN ON 9/10/06 IT HAS 826000 MILES ON IT. THE DAY AFTER I BOUGHT IT DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD 30 MPH, THE TRUCK STALLED. I PUT IT IN NEUTRAL, STILL ROLLING AND ATTEMPTED TO RESTART 2 OR 3 TIMES. IT FINALLY STARTED. IT HAS ALSO DONE IT AT A DEAD STOP AT THE BANK DRIVE THROUGH. THIS TIME IT DIDN'T RESTART UNTIL I PULLED THE KEY AND REINSERTED IT AND IT STARTED. AS OF TODAY 9/19/06 IT HAS DONE IT AT LEAST 7 TIMES. I TOOK IT TO CHEVROLET THEY SAID POSSIBLE CRANK POSITION SENSOR? *NM
VEHICLE WOULD DIE RANDOMLY WHILE OPERATING CAUSING LOSS OF STEERING AND BRAKING. USUALLY OCCURRED AT LOW SPEEDS (LIKE IN TRAFFIC) AND RE-STARTING REQUIRED LENGTHY CRANKING. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS PROBLEM HAS COME UP WHILE I'VE OWNED THE VEHICLE WITH THE SAME CORRECTION, REPLACING THE CRANK POSITION SENSOR. I HAVE THE OLD PART. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE'S PARKING BRAKE WAS NOT WORKING. THE CONTACT NEVER USED THE PARKING BRAKE. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY THE DEALERSHIP, WHO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE PARKING BRAKE WOULD GO BAD IF IT WAS NEVER USED. UPDATED 9/13/2006 -THE VEHICLE FAILED STATE INSPECTION BECAUSE THE PARKING BRAKE DID NOT WORK. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE TRAVELING 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE'S ABS AND PARKING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE SERVICE DEALER, WHERE COMPUTER DIAGNOSTICS IDENTIFIED THE COMPONENT FAILURE AS THE SERVICE BRAKE; ELECTRONIC BRAKE CONTROL MODULE, HAD AN INTERNAL FAILURE. THE SERVICE DEALER MECHANIC ALSO DETERMINED THAT THE PUMP MIGHT DAMAGE A NEW MODULE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED.
CAR WILL DIE AT HIGHWAY SPEED, LEADING TO LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKING. 2001 CHEVY SUBURBAN WITH 8.1L ENGINE. THIS SOUNDS THE SAME AS OPEN COMPLAINT NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: PE06016. *NM
EMERGENCY BRAKE WENT OUT FOR NO REASON. WE HAVE NEVER USED EMERGENCY BRAKE SINCE OWNING THE CAR IN 2001. *JB
ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM FAILURE. PUMP ON ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM CONTINUES TO RUN CAUSING PUMP FAILURE UNLESS DISCONNECTING FUSE AT PANEL. UPON DISCONNECTING FUSE THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM IS USELESS AS IS THE TRACTION CONTROL FEATURE. ALL LIGHTS, ABS, TRACTION ASSIST, BRAKE BECOME ILLUMINATED ON DASH BOARD. I FEEL THIS IS A HAZARDOUS CONDITION DUE TO THE DRIVER NOT HAVING THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES OR TRACTION ASSIST. I'VE TALKED WITH NUMEROUS OWNERS OF THE SAME TYPE VEHICLE AND THEY ALL HAVE THE SAME COMPLAINTS. THE ONLY REPAIR IS TO REPLACE THE ELECTRONIC BRAKE CONTROL MODULE (EBCM) THAT IS MOUNTED TO THE TOP OF THE ABS PUMP. GM IS CHARGING IN THE BALLPARK OF $700-$900 FOR THIS PART AND THEY ARE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. 8JB
ABS AND BRAKE LIGHTS CONTINUE TO COME ON. *NM
ABS RECALL 05068, CLEAN & INSPECT WHEEL SENSORS, 18 NOV 2005. ABS & TRACTION CONTROL WARNING LIGHTS ON,16 JUN 2006 (55977 MILES). DEALER DIAGNOSTIC CODE C0265, ECBM ($925.59 PART) AND ALSO BPMV ($761.14 PART) PLUS APPROX 2HRS LABOR. I ASKED IF IT WOULD BE SAFE TO DISCONNECT THE PUMP FROM THE ABS SYSTEM UNTIL I COULD SEE IF THE RECALL WOULD COVER THIS COST, IT HASN'T HAPPENED AS OF THIS DATE. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN OPERATION SINCE THIS SYSTEM FAILURE. I NOW HAVE LEARNED THAT THE RELAY ON THE EBCM THAT CONTROLS THE POWER HAS CONTACTS THAT WELD CLOSED WHICH CAUSES THE PUMP TO RUN CONTINUOUSLY. I ASKED IF I COULD HAVE THE OLD PART WHEN I GET IT FIXED AND WAS TOLD NO BECAUSE IT MUST BE RETURNED. I ALSO FEEL THAT WHEN I WAS TOLD IT MAY ALSO NEED THE BPMV THAT THE CHECK VALVE HOLDING THE PUMP PRESSURE COULD BE THE TRUE CAUSE OF SYSTEM FAILURE. I FEEL THAT PEOPLE THAT BUY THIS SAFETY FEATURE SHOULD HAVE IT WORK FOR THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE. I ALSO KNOW THAT THE REPAIR COSTS HAVE SINCE GONE UP. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WOULD STICK DURING THE INITIAL STARTING. THE FAILURE GENERALLY OCCURRED DURING WARM WEATHER. AS OF DECEMBER 11, 2007, THE DEALER HAD NOT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 78,000. UPDATED 03/14/08. *LJ
GM CURRENTLY HAS A RECALL FOR WIRING ON THE FUEL SYSTEM FOR 2001 SUBURBANS. MY FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY WAS REPLACED RECENTLY DUE TO THIS SAME ISSUE. THE VIN NUMBER OF MY SUBURBAN WAS NOT COVERED, HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM WAS THAT AS DESCRIBED BY THE RECALL NOTICE. THE REPAIR SHOP CONTACTED THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP, AND THE DEALERSHIP WOULD NOT COVER THE REPAIR AS NOT AN APPROVE RECALL VIN FOR MY SUBURBAN. BASED ON WHAT IS PUBLISHED, THIS REPAIR APPEAR TO BE THE SAME THING. WOULD LIKE REIMBURSEMENT FOR THIS ITEM. *JB
PARKING BRAKE FAILURE. APPEARS PARKING BRAKE SYSTEM DEFECTIVE WHICH HAS CAUSED BRAKE TO BE INOPERABLE AND TRIGGERED A FAILED STATE INSPECTION ON 4/7/06. THIS WILL HAVE TO BE FIXED IN THE NEXT 15 DAYS IN ORDER TO OBTAIN INSPECTION. HAVE BEEN TOLD THE DEFECT IN THE PARKING BRAKE SYSTEM WILL NECESSITATE ANOTHER REPAIR AT THE 15K MARK FROM THE DATE OF ORIGINAL REPAIR, AS THE SYSTEM EATS THE BRAKE SHOES DUE TO THE DEFECT. THIS PROBLEM IS IN NO WAY RELATED TO USE OF THE PARKING BRAKE. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE FUEL GAUGE ON THE VEHICLE IS INOPERABLE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN SEEN BY A MECHANIC. THERE IS A NHTSA RECALL, # 05V155000, REGARDING THE FUEL PUMP. THE VEHICLE HAS THE SAME PROBLEMS AS INDICATED IN THE RECALL; HOWEVER, IT IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO THE VIN.
LEAKING FRONT DIFFERENTIAL SEALS ON A 2001 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN, 1500, 4WD. *NM
WE HAVE A 2001 CHEVY SUBURBAN WITH 26281 MILES ON IT. ON MARCH 18 2006 WE WENT ON A 200 MILE , ROUND TRIP RIDE. BRAKES WERE FINE THEN. NO INDICATION OF ANYTHING WRONG. STOPPING DISTANCE WAS THE SAME NO BRAKE LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON VEHICLE NO NOISES COMING FROM BRAKES AT ALL. EVERYTHING SEEMED FINE. MARCH 19,2006 : BACKING OUT OF OUR DRIVEWAY TO GO TO CHURCH. STEPPED ON BRAKES HEARD AWFUL GRINDING NOISE. AT THIS POINT THE STOPPING DISTANCE DID INCREASE SUBSTANTIALLY AND EVERY TIME THE BRAKES WERE DEPRESSED THEY WOULD GRIND. TOOK TO GARAGE ON MONDAY TO HAVE LOOKED AT. NEEDED TO ROTORS AND BRAKE SHOES INSTALLED ON THE REAR OF VEHICLE. AT TWENTY SIX THOUSAND MILES THIS SHOULDN'T HAVE HAPPENED. CHEVROLET SAID IT IS DUE TO ROAD SALT BUT HAVE LIVED IN MAINE MY WHOLE LIFE AND HAVE ONLY HAD A ROTOR JOB DONE ONCE BEFORE ON A CAR WITH 1100000 MILES ON IT. THE DEALER SHERE WE BOUGHT THE VEHICLE IS 75 MILES AWAY, SO I DIDN'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING THE 75 MILES TO HAVE THE VEHICLE REPAIRED THERE. THEY SAY TALK TO CHEVROLET TO REIMBURSEMENT AND CHEVROLET SAYS SINCE WARRANTY EXPIRED MAY 30 2005 AND THAT I DIDN'T TAKE IT TO THE DEALER THEY WILL NOT COVER ANY OF THE REPAIR COST. ROTORS SHOULD NOT BE WEARING OUT AT 26000 MILES. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT CHEVROLET SHOULD BE LOOKING INTO. *JB
MY 2001 SUBURBAN HAS STALLED IN TRAFFIC TWICE. I WAS ABLE TO TURN THE IGNITION OFF AND THEN RESTART THE ENGINE BOTH TIMES. I HAVE EXPERIENCED TROUBLE STARTING THE CAR AS WELL. PROBLEM GOES AWAY IF THE IGNITION IS SWITCHED OFF AND ON SEVERAL TIMES. I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE STALLING IN TRAFFIC. THE VEHICLE IS LARGE AND DIFFICULT TO CONTROL WITHOUT POWER STEERING AND BRAKES. IT IS ALSO VERY DANGEROUS TO BE STALLED IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. *NM
TRANSMISSION FAILURES IN 1999 THROUGH 2002 CHEVROLET TAHOE'S, SUBURBANS, AND K1500 TRUCKS. I HAVE OWNED SEVERAL CHEVROLET VEHICLES. IN MY SMALL CIRCLE OF ACQUAINTANCES, I HAVE EXPERIENCED WHAT I BELIEVE TO BE TOO MANY TRANSMISSION FAILURES BY THE AFORE MENTIONED VEHICLES. MY BROTHER IN LAW JUST HAD TO HAVE HIS K1500 TRANSMISSION CHANGED OUT. MY BROTHERS SON HAD TO HAVE HIS 2001 K1500 TRANSMISSION CHANGED OUT AT 60000 MILES. MY BROTHER HAS HAD TWO TRANSMISSIONS CHANGED OUT IN HIS 2002 TAHOE. AND FINALLY, TODAY JANUARY 26, 2006, MY WIFES TRANSMISSION IN HER 2001 SUBURBAN WITH ONLY 78000, NEVER USED TO TOW ANYTHING BUT A LAWN MOWER TRAILER, JUST WENT OUT WITH SEVERAL SCHOOL KIDS ON BOARD ON A VERY BUSY ROAD WITH NO SHOULDERS. THIS COULD HAVE TURNED INTO A BAD SITUATION. WHAT IS THE DEAL? *AK
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN 2500. WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE RESTARTS INTERMITTENTLY. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 07V521000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 90,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH ANOTHER VEHICLE STRUCK THE CONTACT IN THE SIDE AT ABOUT 40 MPH. THE VEHICLE TURNED SIDEWAYS IN AN INTERSECTION AND THE SIDE IMPACT AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CONTACT AND DRIVER OF THE OTHER VEHICLE, WHILE WEARING SEAT BELTS, SUSTAINED INJURIES. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED NECK/LEFT SHOULDER, BACK,KNEES, AND LOWER LEG INJURIES, AND WAS TAKEN BY AMBULANCE TO A LOCAL HOSPITAL WHERE SHE WAS TREATED AND RELEASED. THE POLICE TOOK A REPORT AT THE SCENE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED BY THE INSURANCE AGENCY. THE MANUFACTURER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND DETERMINED THE SEVERITY OF THE ACCIDENT DID NOT WARRANT SIDE IMPACT AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT. *AK
I OWN A 2001 CHEVY SUBURBAN WITH 68,000 MILES AND I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE POWER STEERING TWICE BECAUSE IT CRACKED IN HALF WHILE I WAS DRIVING. CHEVY SAYS IT WAS MY FAULT. HOW DOES A LADY WHO IS NOT THAT STRONG CRACK TWO POWER STEERING IN HALF WHILE SHE IS DRIVING? *JB
TOOK 2001 SUBURBAN IN NOVEMBER 2005 TO WILTON CHEVROLET, WILTON, CT, FOR GM ABS BRAKE RECALL, FIXING BRAKE TERMINALS FOR POSSIBLE CORROSION IN NORTHEASTERN STATES. DEC. 05 - OCTOBER 2006 ABS DASHBOARD LIGHT WOULD COME ON SPORADICALLY FOR SHORT TIME AND THEN GO OFF WITH NO REASONING. FROM AUGUST - OCTOBER 2006 ABS LIGHT WOULD COME ON MORE FREQUENTLY. AFTER TAKING THE VEHICLE TO LOCAL REPAIR SHOP THEY HOOKED UP TO COMPUTER AND FOUND VAULT CODE WITH ABS MODULE, ($99.00 CHARGE), BUT SAID THAT I WOULD HAVE TO TAKE TO GM DEALER TO REPLACE ABS MODULE BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT RESET THE COMPUTER CODE WHEN THE MODULE IS REPLACED. TOOK VEHICLE TO ARROWAY CHEVROLET IN KATONAH, NY AND THEY REPLACED THE ABS MODULE AFTER ALSO FINDING THE SAME COMPUTER CODE VAULT. $1,300.00 REPAIR COST. I HAVE SUSPICION THAT WHEN THE ABS BRAKE RECALL REPAIR WAS DONE THAT A SHORT HAPPENED TO THE ABS MODULE CAUSING IT TO EVENTUALLY FAIL. *NM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN. WHEN THE CONTACT STARTED THE VEHICLE, THE LIGHT THAT INDICATES THE PARKING BRAKE IS ACTIVATED WAS NOT ILLUMINATED. THE GEAR WAS SHIFTED INTO DRIVE AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO DRIFT WHILE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS STILL APPLIED. THE CONTACT TURNED OFF THE ENGINE. PRIOR TO THE FAILURE, THE CONTACT HEARD THE SOUND OF METAL COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE WHENEVER THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. THE PARKING BRAKE WAS REPLACED BY A REPAIR SHOP; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
ABS/BRAKE SYSTEM WARNING LIGHTS CONTINUE TO COME ON AND STAY ON. ONCE VEHICLE HAS BEEN SHUT OFF AND RESTARTED, LIGHTS DON'T COME ON UNTIL AFTER A PERIOD OF DRIVING. HAD BRAKE SYSTEM CHECKED AND EVERYTHING CHECKED OK. *JB
DT: THE CONTACT STATES RECEIVED NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN 05V155000 ON NOVEMBER 17, 2005 CONCERNING THE FUEL PUMP. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE, AFTER SHE PICKED UP THE VEHICLE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE DEALERSHIP WAS CONTACTED , THEY ADVISED HER THAT IT WAS BECAUSE THEY WORKED ON THE FUEL PUMP AND IT WOULD GO OFF IN ABOUT A WEEK. AFTERWARDS, THE VEHICLE BACK FIRED, AND THE CHECK LIGHT ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP ON NOVEMBER 30, 2005. THE DEALERSHIP CONTACTED HER ON DECEMBER 1, 2005 STATING THAT THE FUEL PUMP/ FUEL FILTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, AND THE INJECTORS NEEDED TO BE FLUSHED. THE REPAIR WOULD BE OVER $1000 IN DAMAGE. *AK
WE NOTICED THAT THE DRIVER'S SIDE MIRROR OF MY WIFE'S 2001 TAHOE APPEARED TO HAVE A MELTED PLACE ON THE BOTTOM OF THE PLASTIC HOUSING. THERE WAS A GREEN/YELLOW CIRCLE IN THE CENTER OF THE MIRROR WHERE IT APPEARED TO HAVE GOTTEN TO HOT. I REMOVED THE MIRROR WHICH WAS CONNECTED BY FOUR WIRES. TWO WIRES WENT TO THE HEATING ELEMENT AND THE OTHER TWO CONTROLLED THE AUTOMATIC DIMMING FEATURE. ON THE INSIDE OF THE DIMMING FEATURE WIRES THERE APPEARED TO BE BLACK RESIDUE. YOU COULD CLEARLY SEE THAT THE MOLDED PLASTIC ON THE BACK OF THE MIRROR HAD MELTED ALONG THE OUTSIDE EDGE (DIGITAL PICTURES AVAILABLE IF NEEDED). I CALLED THE DEALER AND ORDERED A MIRROR THAT ONLY HAD THE HEATED FEATURE WITHOUT THE DIMMING EFFECT. I INSTALLED THIS ON THE LOGIC THAT I COULD LEAVE THE DEFECTIVE WIRES DISABLED. SO FAR EVERYTHING SEEMS TO BE WORKING JUST FINE. THE PRICE OF THE REPLACEMENT WAS $35.00 (HEATER ONLY) AND IF I HAD ORDERED THE DIMMING FEATURE WITH IT ($267.00) "WHICH I THINK IS RIDICULOUS". EVEN THOUGH I WAS OUT THE EXPENSE AND TIME SPENT FIXING THE MIRROR MY HOPE IS THAT YOU CAN RESEARCH THIS AND POSSIBLY KEEP SOMEONE ELSE'S VEHICLE FROM THE POTENTIAL OF BURNING UP OR WORSE YET BURNING UP IN THERE GARAGE AND CATCHING THERE HOUSE ON FIRE. *JB

WHEN HE CONTACTED THE SERVICE DEALER THEY SAID IF THIS VEHICLE DID NOT HAVE A DEFECTIVE FUEL TANK THE CONTACT WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COST OF THE DIAGNOSTIC SERVICE. THE CONSUMER CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER, AND THEY SUPPORTED THE SERVICE DEALER'S DECISION. VEHICLE WITH 25,300 MILES FAILED THE ANNUAL VIRGINIA STATE INSPECTION DUE TO FAILURE OF THE PARKING BRAKE TO HOLD. THE DEALER STATED RUST HAD FORMED ON THE ROTORS AND THEY HAD TO BE REPLACED EVEN THOUGH THEY AND THE BRAKE LININGS WERE NOT WORN OUT. THE DEALER SERVICE ADVISOR STATED THE DESIGN HAD BEEN CHANGED ON LATER MODELS, BUT THERE WAS NO RECALL FOR THIS DEFECT AND I WOULD HAVE TO PAY $980.00 TO REPLACE ROTORS, PADS AND PARK BRAKE LININGS. I CALLED GM'S CHEVROLET DIVISION CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THE CUSTOMER SERVICE REP SAID SHE WOULD INVESTIGATE AND CALL ME BACK IN A FEW DAYS. I PICKED UP THE TRUCK AND PAID $775.71 THE DEALER HAVING "GIVEN ME A BREAK ON THE LABOR" NINE DAYS LATER, THE GM REP CALLED TO TELL ME THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO AS THE "DEALER DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS BEING DUE TO THE AGE AND MILEAGE OF THE VEHICLE" (4 YEARS AND 25,300 MILES) AND SHE WAS CLOSING THE FILE INDICATING I WAS DISSATISFIED WITH THE RESULTS. I POINTED OUT TO HER THE FACT THAT THE NHTSA WEB PAGE HAS NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT PARKING BRAKES ON CHEVY SUBURBANS. SHE WAS NOT MOVED AND RESTATED HER INTENT TO CLOSE THE FILE. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED THE DEALER SERVICE ADVISOR WHO STATED THAT VEHICLE AGE AND MILEAGE WAS NOT THE CAUSE BUT. THE PROBLEM WAS A DURABILITY ISSUE WITH THE PARKING BRAKE SYSTEM ON CHEVY TRUCKS. I PURCHASED A 2001 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN IN LATE 2005. WE ARE CURRENTLY ON OUR THIRD TRANSMISSION WITH THIS VEHICLE. THE FIRST ONE LOCKED UP AT 20 M MILES AND WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. THERE IS A HOSE THAT GOES BETWEEN THE TWO TANKS IT WAS NOT CRACKED AT THE HOSE, BUT IT WAS CRACKED AT THE TOP OF THE PLASTIC TANK. THE MAIN TANK WAS REPLACED AT CONTACT'S EXPENSE. THE VEHICLE WAS NEVER IN AN ACCIDENT, AND NEVER WAS USED AS AN OFF ROAD VEHICLE. ALSO, THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED , AND THEY PROVIDED THE CONTACT WITH A CASE NUMBER AND EXPLAINED TO HIM THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO ABOUT IT. THEY TOOK THE GAS TANK OFF AND THAT THE FUEL MODULE WAS BAD. THE WIRE GOT WARM AND CAUSED A HOLE IN THE CONNECTOR, AND FUEL VAPORS LEAKED OUT, AND ENGINE LIGHT APPEARED ON AUGUST 25, 2005 . THAT WAS WHY I THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO DEALER. WHEN THE GAS GOT LOW THE GAS GAUGE WOULD GO ALL THE WAY TO AND BACK TO THE ACTUAL AMOUNT OF GAS THAT WAS IN IT. *AK
