TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 40 MPH HE HEARD A RATTLING AND KNOCKING SOUND IN THE STEERING WHEEL. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED OR SERVICED BY THE DEALER FOR THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 105,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 111,000.
I WAS DRIVING ON A 70 MILE HIGHWAY WHEN I FELT A VIBRATION AND THEN MY BACK RIGHT TIRE TREAD BLEW OFF (IN A COMPLETE CIRCLE) AND I WAS LEFT DRIVING ON MY RIM. ALL FOUR OF MY TIRES AND BEEN REPLACED DUE TO A RECALL IN 2007. FOUR NEW TIRES OF THE SAME BRAND WERE INSTALLED. THE SAME THING IS HAPPENING ON THESE TIRES THAT THE ORIGINAL TIRES WERE RECALLED FOR. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF THE ROAD SAFELY. *TR
I HAVE A 2001 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN 1500. I HAD REAR BRAKES AND ROTORS REPLACED AT 87813 MILES IN 02/08. AT APPROXIMATELY 78713 MILES THE FRONT BRAKE PADS WERE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE NOW HAS APPROXIMATELY 104783 MILES ON IT AND THE REAR PADS ARE GONE AND THE REAR ROTORS ARE WARPED. THE FRONT PADS CURIOUSLY STILL HAVE 2/3 OF THE PAD LEFT. WHEN GOING ONLINE I FOUND A RECALL EFFECTING THE BRAKE SYSTEM OF THE VEHICLE NHTSA # 05V379000. DOING MY DUE DILIGENCE I CALLED GM CUSTOMER SERVICE ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND THEY STATED THAT THIS PARTICULAR RECALL IS NOT OPEN FOR THE VIN # OF MY VEHICLE. AFTER READING THE ACTUAL RECALL ON YOUR WEBSITE IT WOULD APPEAR MY VEHICLE WHICH IS IN FACT REGISTERED IN THE STATE OF OHIO A "SALT-BELT" STATE WHICH WAS ONE OF THE PRIMARY CONSIDERATIONS FOR THE RECALL. I AM CURIOUS AS TO WHY THE RECALL WOULD NOT BE IN EFFECT ON MY VEHICLE. DOES MY VEHICLE FIRST HAVE TO BE INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT CAUSING INJURIES BECAUSE OF A BRAKE FAILURE BEFORE THIS WILL BE ADDRESSED? NO COMMON CAR OWNER WOULD SUSPECT THAT AFTER 15K MILES REAR BRAKES WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED AND WOULD MORE THAN LIKELY CONTINUE DRIVING THE VEHICLE UNTIL THERE WAS A CATASTROPHIC BRAKE FAILURE THAT COULD LEAD TO SERIOUS INJURY. I WOULD LIKE SOMEONE TO GET AN EXPLANATION FROM GENERAL MOTORS AS TO WHY THIS IS NOT BEING ADDRESSED IN THESE VEHICLES NOT SUPPOSEDLY AFFECTED BY THIS RECALL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ENGINE FAILED TO START. THE CONTACT HAD TO DEPRESS THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND TURN THE KEY IN ORDER TO START THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A MECHANIC FOR INSPECTION AND THEY STATED THAT THE FUEL PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN 1500. IN AUGUST OF 2004, AT 99,551 MILES, THE ENGINE STALLED WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH. THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF SUDDENLY AND WAS TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP. THE CONTACT PAID FOR THE FUEL PUMP AND FUEL FILTER TO BE REPLACED. IN JULY OF 2008, THE FUEL PUMP AND FUEL FILTER WERE REPLACED FOR THE SECOND TIME. THE FAILURE INVOLVED TWO DEFECTIVE FUEL PUMPS THAT WERE PLACED ON THE VEHICLE. THE FIRST WAS REPLACED BY A SECOND DEFECTIVE PUMP. AFTER THE SECOND REPLACEMENT, THE FUEL PUMP FAILED AGAIN AND THE SHOP REIMBURSED THE CONTACT. THE MANUFACTURER DID NOT ASSIST. THE CONTACT DECIDED TO PURCHASE A FOURTH FUEL PUMP THAT WAS INSTALLED BY AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP ON JULY 1, 2008. THERE HAD BEEN NO OTHER FAILURES BECAUSE THE VEHICLE CANNOT HAVE LESS THAN A QUARTER OF A TANK OF FUEL. OTHERWISE, THERE WILL BE FAILURES WITH THE ENGINE CRANKING AND STALLING DUE TO THE PUMP LOSING PRESSURE FROM THE LACK OF FUEL CIRCULATION. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 188,000.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN 1500. WHILE DRIVING LESS THAN 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FUEL PUMP AND FILTER FAILED AND COULD BE REPLACED AT AN ESTIMATED COST OF $1,100. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 130,000.
I PURCHASED A SET OF SIGMA STAMPEDE TIRES IN 2-2007. 3 OF THE 4 TIRES PURCHASED HAD SIDE WAL BLOW OUTS. I TOOK THE TIRES TO WHERE I BOUGHT THEM AND THE OWNER SAID IT LOOKED AS THOUGH THERE COULD BE A DEFECT. I CONTACTED TBC CORP. ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND WAS TOLD THAT THIS TIRE HAD BEEN RECALLED BUT THE SET I HAD WAS THE WRONG DOT #. I THEN TOLD THEM 3 OUT OF 4 TIRES THAT HAD NO TREAD DAMAGE THAT BLOW OUT THE SIDE WALL SHOULD BE LOOKED AT I WAS TOLD TO GET MY RECEIPT AND FAX IT TO THEM AND THEY WOULD MAKE AN ADJUSTMENT ON 2 OF THE TIRES THIS WAS DONE 2 WEEKS AGO AND I HAVE NOT HEARD FROM THEM . THE FIRST TIRE BLEW OUT 11-2008, AND I REPLACED IT . THE SECOND ON 4- 2009AND THE THIRD ON 7-12-2009. THEY SAID THAT I WOULD NEED ALL THE BAD TIRES FOR THEM TO LOOK AT , BUT ALL BUT 1 CANNOT BE RECOVERED THEY HAD ME TAKE THE REMAINING TIRE 34 MILES FROM MY HOME TO ONE OF THEIR DISTRIBUTORS TO LOOK AT ,WHEN I WENT THEY WOULD NOT EVEN LOOK AT IT . THIS COMPANY HAS DONE NOTHING BUT GIVE ME A RUN-AROUND WHEN ALL I WANTED WAS TO MAKE THEM AWARE OF A POSSIBLE PROBLEM. THEY WERE THE PNES THAT MENTION AN ADJUSTMENT, AND AFTER DOING WHAT THEY ASKED THEY WILL NOT CONTACT ME BACK. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN. ON NOVEMBER 6, 2008, THE CONTACT WAS INVOLVED IN A SERIOUS CRASH. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY AND THE ENTIRE FRONT END AND PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE WERE DAMAGED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE CONTACT HAS PICTURES AND A POLICE REPORT. THERE WERE NO OTHER PASSENGERS IN THE VEHICLE AND THE CONTACT WAS WEARING HER SEAT BELT AT THE TIME. THERE WAS NO MAINTENANCE PERFORMED ON THE AIR BAGS PRIOR TO THE CRASH. THE SPEED WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
CAR STALLED SUDDENLY AT 40 MPH, LOSING POWER STEERING IN TRAFFIC. AFTER A FEW MINUTES THE CAR RESTARTED. INTERMITTENTLY STALLS. WHILE GM HAS RECALLED 2001 SUBURBANS FOR CRANK POSITION FAILURES IN THIS YEAR MODEL, MY PARTICULAR VIN NUMBER WAS NOT COVERED BY THE RECALL. I PURCHASED REPLACEMENT PART AND CORRECTED THE PROBLEM. GM REFUSED TO REIMBURSE. VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. NO WONDER GM IS IN DECLINE WITH THE LACK OF RESPONSE TO A VERY STRANGE AND DANGEROUS ENGINE STALL WITH ABSOLUTELY NO WARNING. *TR
I HAVE A 2001 CHEVY SUBURBAN. IN REGARDS TO GM RECALL 05027, MY VEHICLE IS A 2500 SERIES. I EXPERIENCED A FUEL TANK LEAK. AFTER DEALER REMOVED TANK THEY FOUND OVER HEATED WIRING IN THE FUEL PUMP MODULE. I APPEARED TO BE THE SAME PROBLEM AS THE RECALL, HOWEVER THEY SAID THE RECALL ONLY COVERED THE 1500 SERIES. I PHONED GM AND THEY ARE LOOKING INTO IT. IT DIDN'T SOUND PROMISING. I HOPE GM IS AWARE THE PROBLEM EXISTS IN THE 2500. I FELT FORTUNATE TO HAVE AVOIDED A FIRE AS THE LEAK WAS SEVERE IF TANK WAS OVER 3/4 FULL. THE FUEL GAUGE WAS ALSO INACCURATE. PLEASE FORWARD THIS INFORMATION ALONG. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN 2500. THE CONTACT NOTICED EXCESSIVE GASOLINE LEAKING FROM THE FUEL TANK. THE LEAKAGE OCCURRED CONTINUOUSLY AND WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS EXCLUDED FROM THE RECALL DUE TO THE MILEAGE ON THE VEHICLE; HOWEVER, THE FAILURES WERE IDENTICAL. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED OF THE SAFETY RISK INVOLVED. THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER AND MILEAGES WERE UNKNOWN.
2001 CHEVY SUBURBAN WITH VORTEC 5.3 L ENGINE. DURING HOT DAYS OR WARM ENGINE, THE THROTTLE STICKS IN "IDLE" POSITION, REQUIRING SIGNIFICANTLY HEAVIER PRESSURE ON THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL RESULTING IN A SUDDEN AND UNCONTROLLABLE ACCELERATION WHEN IT RELEASES FOR THE STUCK "IDLE" POSITION. THIS EVENT OCCURS AT IRREGULAR INTERVALS, ON THE VORTEC 5.3 ENGINE, AS A RELATIVE HAS A SIMILAR PROBLEM WITH THE CHEVY PICKUP AND THE SAME 2001 5.3 VORTEC ENGINE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN. WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE WOULD RANDOMLY SHUT OFF AND COMPLETELY STOP. THE OTHER COMPONENTS, SUCH AS THE RADIO, WERE STILL OPERABLE. THE POWER STEERING AND BRAKES WERE ALWAYS AFFECTED AND WOULD BECOME INOPERABLE. OCCASIONALLY, THE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY RESTARTS AND OTHER TIMES, THE CONTACT MUST WAIT A COUPLE OF MINUTES. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 07V521000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE DEALER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 59,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN. WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH, THE VEHICLE TOOK A LONG TIME TO STOP WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK) WAS REFERENCED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY CALLED A REGIONAL GMC REPRESENTATIVE. GMC WOULD NOT ALLOW THE DEALER TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE ACCORDING TO THE RECALL BECAUSE CORROSION WAS NOT AN ISSUE IN THE CONTACT'S HOME STATE. NO OTHER DEALER HAS INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND NO REPAIRS WERE MADE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 77,000.

I CONTACTED CHEVY ABOUT THIS AND WAS TOLD IT OCCURRED OFTEN AND THAT IT WASN'T COVERED.. I HAVE SEARCHED THE INTERNET AND HAVE FOUND NUMEROUS OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS SAME ISSUE AND EVERYONE THINKS IT SHOULD BE A SAFETY RECALL ISSUE. WHILE DRIVING THE POWER STEERING FAILED MAKING THE VEHICLE NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO STEER. AFTER TOWING IT TO A CHEVY DEALER, THEY INFORMED US THAT THE SHAFT IN THE POWER STEERING PUMP HAD BROKEN. THERE IS A NHTSA RECALL ON GM/CHEVY TRUCKS FOR THIS PROBLEM. GM DOES NOT ACKNOWLEDGE ANY RECALL FOR POWER STEERING PUMPS. *TR
WHEN MAKING SHARP TURNS AT LOW SPEED POWER STEERING FAILS. THIS HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST 25 TIMES. BROUGHT TRUCK TO MECHANIC AND HE HAS CHECKED BELTS AND FLUIDS AND SAYS HE DOESN'T SEE ANYTHING WRONG WITH THOSE ITEMS. SOMETIMES WHEN I AM DRIVING I FEEL LIKE STEERING IS EXTREMELY LOOSE. *TR
I HAVE A 2001 SUBURBAN 2500 8.1 L. 3/4 TON. THE ENGINE WOULD STALL WHILE DRIVING WITHOUT WARNING. IT HAS HAPPENED MANY TIMES INCLUDING IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION AND ON THE FREEWAY GOING AT FREEWAY SPEEDS INCLUDING HAULING A TRAILER. WHEN THIS OCCURS POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES ARE LOST WITH HOPES OF BEING ABLE TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITHOUT GETTING HIT. FOUND NHTSA RECALL # 07V521000 AND GM # 06083. THIS RECALL DESCRIBED MY VEHICLES PROBLEM EXACTLY. TOOK VEHICLE INTO DEALERSHIP MENTIONING RECALL, OUR VIN # IS NOT AFFECTED. DIAGNOSTIC SHOWED CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR FAILURE EXACTLY LIKE THE RECALL. GM WOULD NOT COVER ANY EXPENSES BECAUSE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL. AFTER REVIEWING OTHER COMPLAINTS, I SEE THAT THERE ARE OTHERS WHO HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE AND VIN #'S WERE EXCLUDED FROM THE RECALL. THIS RECALL SHOULD BE EXPANDED TO INCLUDED A WIDER RANGE OF VIN #'S OR AT LEAST INVESTIGATED FURTHER. TOO MUCH OF A COINCIDENCE AND TOO DANGEROUS OF A SITUATION TO LET THIS GO. *TR
MY 2001 CHEV SURBAN CAUGHT ON FIRE IN MY GARAGE WHEN CAR WAS NOT RUNNING. WHILE PICKING UP MY DAUGHTER FROM SCHOOL MY ABS WARNING LIGHT CAME ON --I RETURNED HOME WITHIN 5 MINS AND WITH 10 MINS MY CAR WAS ON FIRE. --DEALERSHIP THAT I BOUGHT THE CAR FROM AND HAVE HAD SERVICED THERE HAS MY CAR. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO DEAL WITH THEM AND IT HAS BEEN A COMPLETE NIGHTMARE. THE SAFTEY OF MY FAMILY IS AT RISK IF I CONTIUNE TO DRIVE THE CAR---THEY DONT KNOW IF THAT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN OR NOT THEY SAY. AT FIRST THEY SAID IT WOULD COST $2,000 TO FIX THE CAR --REPLACE PARTS THAT WERE DAMAGED FROM THE FIRE--AFTER I STARTED ASKING IF GENERAL MOTORS SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE THEY SAID THEY WOULD ONLY CHARGE ME $950.00 SINCE I WAS A GOOD CUSTOMER. I EXPLAINED TO THEM THERE MUST BE A DEFECT IN THE CAR---MY CAR IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION---2001 70,000 MILES AND HAS BEEN SERVICED EVERY 3,000 MILES. THEY SAID THEY HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS BEFORE. THEN THEY SAID GENERAL MOTORS WILL PAY TO HAVE THE PARTS REPLACED THAT WERE DAMAGED AND PUT IN A NEW ABS MODULE, AND THAT I SHOULD BE OKAY. I CANT RISK THE SAFTY OF MY FAMILY AND MY HOUSE TO PARK THE CAR IN THE GARAGE AND CONTUINE TO DRIVE IT.. I WOULD APPREICATE ANY HELP OR ADVISE THAT YOU MIGHT HAVE FOR ME.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN 1500. UPON INSPECTION OF THE VEHICLE, THE EMERGENCY BRAKE DID NOT FUNCTION AND THE VEHICLE FAILED INSPECTION. THERE IS AN OPEN AND CLOSED INVESTIGATION REGARDING THIS FAILURE. THE VIN AND INVESTIGATION NUMBER WERE UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,000.
THE 2001 SUBURBAN'S BODY FRAME AND FRONT WHEEL WELLS ARE POORLY DESIGNED IN THAT THEY ALLOW EXTENSIVE AMOUNTS OF WATER SPRAY FROM FLOODED ROADWAYS TO SATURATE THE WINDSHIELD WHILE DRIVING, CAUSING THE DRIVERS VIEW OF THE ROAD TO BE COMPLETELY OBSTRUCTED CREATING AN UNSAFE DRIVING ENVIRONMENT. *TR
I OWN A 2001 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN 1500 2WD 5.3L V8 WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. THIS VEHICLE WAS BOUGHT NEW AND FROM DAY ONE, THE EMERGENCY BRAKE HAS BEEN COMPLETELY INEFFECTIVE IN HOLDING THE VEHICLE WHEN APPLIED. A CURSORY CHECK ON THE INTERNET REVEALS THAT THIS IS A WIDESPREAD AND VERY WELL-KNOWN PROBLEM FOR OWNERS OF SIMILAR GM VEHICLES. VISITS TO TWO SEPARATE GM DEALERSHIPS IN DALLAS CONFIRM THAT THE DEALERS KNOW OF THIS AS A WIDESPREAD AND WELL-KNOWN PROBLEM AS WELL. ODDLY, THE NHTSA HAD A CHANCE TO REVIEW THIS VEHICLE SAFETY DEFECT AT THE REQUEST OF THE NORTH CAROLINA CONSUMER COUNCIL BACK IN 2005, YET THE NHTSA DECIDED AT THE TIME THAT THIS DEFECT DID NOT WARRANT A SAFETY RECALL. THE SUMMARY CONCLUDES THAT FOR AUTO-TRANSMISSION-EQUIPPED VEHICLES, THE PRESENCE OF A "PARK PAWL" SERVES AS SUFFICIENT HOLDING POWER FOR THESE VEHICLES AND THEREFORE THE APPEAL FOR A SAFETY RECALL WAS DENIED. THERE IS AT LEAST ONE MAJOR PROBLEM WITH THIS CONCLUSION -- NO STATE IS GOING TO ALLOW A VEHICLE WITHOUT A WORKING PARKING BRAKE TO PASS A STATE SAFETY INSPECTION. I KNOW THIS FIRST HAND, AT LEAST IN TEXAS I DO. IT OF COURSE MAKES NO SENSE FOR THE NHTSA TO HAVE A DIFFERENT STANDARD OF VEHICLE SAFETY THAN THE CONSTITUENT STATES DO. EITHER THIS IS AN ISSUE WORTHY OF A NATIONAL SAFETY RECALL, OR THE LACK OF A WORKING PARKING BRAKE SHOULD NOT SERVE AS A VEHICLE FOR FAILURE OF A STATE SAFETY INSPECTION. *TR
INITIALLY PURCHASED SUBURBAN WITH 61,000 MI. HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH ANYTHING. I RECEIVED A NOTICE FROM GM FOR A RECALL ON 2001'S FOR ACTIVATION OF ABS BRAKING SYSTEM AT SLOW SPEEDS. HAVING NO PROBLEMS WITH IT AT THE TIME I WAITED A FEW WEEKS BEFORE GOING TO BERGSTROM CHEVY IN NEENAH WI. I LET THEM TAKE THE VEHICLE IN THE GARAGE TO DO THE RECALL WORK. 2 AND A HALF HOURS LATER THEY CALLED ME FROM THE WAITING AREA AND SAID IT WAS READY. I DROVE AWAY AND CONTINUED TO HAVE NO PROBLEMS UNTIL APPROX. 14 MONTHS LATER WHEN THE ABS STARTED TO ACTIVATE AT EVERY STOP AT AROUND 5MPH. IT CONTINUES TO DO THIS NOW AND HAS SINCE THE SUMMER OF 2008. I CONTACTED BERGSTROM AND GM ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND THEY SAY THEY NO LONGER DO THIS RECALL WORK WITHOUT CHARGE. I LOOKED AT THE BOLT HEADS ON THE FRONT BRAKE CALIPERS TO SEE IF THEY WERE MARRED BY REMOVAL AND THERE IS NO EVIDENCE THAT THESE BOLTS WERE EVER REMOVED FOR SERVICING THE SENSORS. THE FACING OF THE BOLTS IS STILL INTACT WITH NO MARKING OF ANY KIND ON THESE BOLTS SO I AM CERTAIN BERGSTROM NEVER REMOVED THE CALIPERS TO CLEAN THE SENSORS. THE POOR GIRL THAT WAS IN THE TURNING LANE AHEAD OF ME MUST OF THOUGHT HER HONDA WAS ABOUT TO BECOME RECYCLABLE(CRUNCHED). ONLY BY THE SEAT OF MY PANTS DID I AVOID A COLLISION. ON COMING TRAFFIC EASED AND I WAS ABLE TO TAKE EVASIVE ACTIONS. (HIT THE GAS AND FISH TAIL INTO THE HOTEL PARKING LOT, STOPPING ONLY BY HITTING A SNOW BANK! I HAVE A 2001 CHEVY SUBURBAN AND THIS IS THE 5TH. TRANSMISSION I HAVE PUT IN THE VEHICLE. THE TRANSMISSION FIRST FAILED AT 15,339 MILES AND WAS REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY. AT 50,525 MILES IT FAILED AGAIN AND COST ME $1802.94 TO FIX. AT 62,823 IT FAILED AGAIN AND A CHEVROLET DEALER IN OKLAHOMA REPAIRED IT,FOR $2279.24, AND GAVE IT A ONE YEAR WARRANTY. 11 MONTHS AND 10800 MILES LATER IT FAILED AGAIN. LTR RE HIS 2001 SUBURBAN WHICH CAUGHT ON FIRE AFTER NOTICING THE ABS SYSTEM SENSOR APPEARING ON THE DASH BOARD; SEEKING REIMBURSEMENT FOR REPAIRS. *KB WHEN THE CONSUMER ATTEMPTED TO START THE VEHICLE, HE DISCOVERED THE BATTERY WAS DEAD. AFTER THE CONSUMER JUMP STARTED THE VEHICLE, THAT WAS WHEN THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE CONSUMER HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED AND WAS INFORMED THE ABS WAS BAD, BUT IT WAS NOT THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE. THE CAUSE WAS A COMPUTER SYSTEM THAT HAD OVERHEATED AS A RESULT OF THE ABS MALFUNCTION. THE CONSUMER HAD REPLACED THE ABS MODULE PREVIOUSLY. OUR 4 YEAR OLD CHILD WAS ABLE TO PUT OUR 2001 CHEVY SUBURBAN IN GEAR WITHOUT STARTING THE CAR OR PRESSING HIS FOOT ON THE BRAKE. THE CAR STARTING ROLLING DOWN THE HILL. FORTUNATELY MY WIFE WAS ABLE TO JUMP IN THE WINDOW AND PRESS THE BRAKE TO STOP THE CAR. WE WERE VERY LUCKY THAT NONE OF THE CHILDREN IN THE AREA WERE HURT AND THAT NO PROPERTY WAS DAMAGED OTHER THAN A SMALL PIECE OF FENCE. APPARENTLY WITH THE KEY IN THE IGNITION AND IN THE FIRST "ACCESSORY" POSITION YOU ARE ABLE TO TAKE THE CAR OUT OF PARK WITHOUT DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL. I TRIED THIS ON SEVERAL OTHER CHEVY MODELS THAT HAVE THE GEAR SHIFT ON THE COLUMN AND YOU ARE ABLE TO DO THE SAME THING. I CALLED CHEVY AND THE DEALER AND THEY BOTH SAID THAT THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN AND TO BRING IT IN FOR REPAIR. THE DEALER EVEN WENT TO THE LOT AND DID WHAT I DESCRIBED ON A 2006 SUBURBAN AND AGREED THAT IT DID HAPPEN WHEN HE DID IT. I WAS SUBJECT TO A RECALL IN OCTOBER, 2005 WHEN I HAD NO SYMPTOMS BUT TOOK MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHO SAYS THEY COMPLETED THE RECALL REQUIREMENTS. NOW, I AM HAVING THE SYMPTOMS AND GM REFUSES TO TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM. I SPENT $80 AT A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS AND THEY SAY IT IS A FAULTY WHEEL SENSOR(LOW VOLTAGE) AND WANT ANOTHER $330 TO REPAIR. THE RECALL LETTER I WAS SENT SPECIFICALLY STATES THAT "IN SOME CASES, THE FRONT WHEEL SPEED SENSOR MAY REQUIRE REPLACEMENT." GM OFFERED ME A 10% DISCOUNT ON THE REPAIR AFTER I CALLED THEM. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE NEW IN 2001. ON JULY 20, 2007 ON AN OUT OF TOWN FAMILY/WORK TRIP, I REFILLED THE FUEL TANK AND TRAVELED ANOTHER 88 MILES TO MY FINAL DESTINATION, UPON ARRIVAL I SMELLED GAS, BUT SAW NO PROBLEMS. THE NEXT MORNING I WAS SCHEDULED TO ATTEND AND EVENT AND WENT OUT TO START THE TRUCK AND FOUND A HOLE IN THE ASPHALT DRIVEWAY, APPROXIMATELY 3 FEET IN DIAMETER, AND DISCOVERED FUEL LEAKING FROM THE MIDDLE OF MY TRUCK. I REMOVED THE GAS TANK PROTECTIVE COVER AND FUEL SPILLED EVERYWHERE. I FOUND A LOCAL MECHANIC THAT TRAVELED TO MY LOCATION, HE AND 2 OTHERS WORKED ALL DAY AND FOUND THAT THE LOCK RING THAT HOLDS THE FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY TO THE TANK WAS ONLY LIGHTLY CONNECTED. REPAIRS WERE MADE AND I TRAVELED BACK HOME. 8/13/07 MY WIFE FILLED THE TANK 3/4'S FULL AND THE TANK LEAKED FUEL ALL OVER AGAIN. THE FUEL IS LEAKING FROM THE TANK WHERE THE FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY IS CONNECTED. *JB

THE AUTO-DIMMING HEATED MIRROR ON MY 2001 CHEVY SUBURBAN SUDDENLY CRACKED AFTER BUMPING INTO THE SIDE OF MY GARAGE DOOR. THE MIRROR IMMEDIATELY STARTED DRIPPING A GREEN SUBSTANCE ON THE DRIVEWAY. I STARTED TO CLEAN UP THIS SUBSTANCE WITH MY BARE HANDS WHICH CAUSED A BURNING SENSATION. I THEN NOTICED THAT THE GREEN LIQUID WAS DISCOLORING/MELTING THE PAINT ON THE SIDE OF MY VEHICLE AND EATING THE CONCRETE IN MY DRIVEWAY. I SPRAYED THE AREAS DOWN WITH WATER AND FOUND THE PAINT ON MY VEHICLE DAMAGED. MY SKIN BECAME VERY RED AND IRRITATED AFTER CONTACTING THIS MATERIAL. I CAN NOT BELIEVE THAT GM COULD KNOWINGLY SELL A PRODUCT TO THE PUBLIC WITH NO WARNING OF ANY KIND. THE BLACK PLASTIC HOUSING OF THE OUTSIDE OF THE MIRROR ALSO HAS MELTED DUE TO CONTACT WITH THE MATERIAL.
