FAILURE OF PARKING BRAKE DISCOVERED BY STATE INSPECTION. PARKING BRAKE WAS IN TOTAL FAILURE AND HAD TO BE REPLACED BEFORE VEHICLE COULD BE PASSED. PARKING BRAKE WAS STUCK IN THE OPEN POSITION CAUSING BRAKE ROTORS TO EXCESSIVELY WEAR. REPAIR/REPLACEMENT OF PARKING BRAKE WAS REQUIRED ALONG WITH NEW BRAKE ROTORS. THE PARKING BRAKE WAS NEVER ENGAGED FROM TIME OF PURCHASE AT NEW DEALERSHIP TO TIME OF FAILURE AT INSPECTION STATION. *JB
I HAVE A 2002 SUBURBAN THAT HAD A RECALL FOR THE GAS TANK LEAKING WHEN IT IS FILLED PAST 3/4 FULL. THE RECALL WORK WAS DONE IN DECEMBER 2005. THEN IN MARCH I SMELT GAS AGAIN I NOTICED A LARGE PUDDLE WAS UNDER MY VEHICLE AS I PULLED OUT OF THE GARAGE. I CARRIED IT BACK IN AND THEY CHARGED ME $890.00 AND STATED SINCE THE RECALL WORK WAS DONE IN DECEMBER THIS WOULD NOT BE COVERED. I HAVE THE PARTS THEY REPLACED. *JB
STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE INDICATORS ON THE DASH COMING ON WHEN THEY SHOULDN'T HAVE BEEN AND ALSO THE TACH QUIT WORKING. THEN EVERYTHING WOULD START WORKING PROPERLY AGAIN. THIS HAPPENED 3 TIMES AND THE LAST INCIDENT WAS THE ODOMETER RESET TO "0", SO NOW WE HAVE NO IDEA WHAT OUR MILEAGE IS AND ALSO THE CLOCK ON THE RADIO JUMPS AHEAD A COUPLE HOURS. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR A NEW GAUGE CLUSTER AT THE COST OF $200-$300 AND ALSO $60 FOR A SOFTWARE UPGRADE FOR THE OTHER DASH PROBLEMS. I ALSO CALLED GM AND LET THEM KNOW ABOUT IT AND TOLD THEM I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO PAY FOR A NEW GAUGE CLUSTER SINCE IT SEEMS THERE IS A DESIGN FLAW AND ALSO THE SERIOUSNESS OF THE ODOMETER RESETTING. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE ABS SYSTEM ACTIVATED WHILE TRAVELING 10 MPH. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER #05V379000 REGARDING THE ABS WHEEL SPEED SENSOR. THE DEALER DETERMINED THE VEHICLE'S PROBLEM WAS WITH THE WHEEL HUB, WHICH WAS NOT COVERED BY THE RECALL. UPDATED 12/01/06.*JB
FAILED TEXAS INSPECTION DUE TO PARKING BRAKE NOT HOLDING VEHICLE ON 2002 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN; TOLD BY INSPECTOR 99% OF CHEVY'S FAIL FOR THIS REASON; WIDESPREAD PROBLEM; I AM SCHEDULED TO HAVE FIXED THIS WEEKEND SO I CAN PASS INSPECTION. *JB
MY 2002 SUBURBAN HAD A TRANSMISSION FAILURE AT 46091 MILES THAT REQUIRED ME TO PURCHASE A NEW TRANSMISSION AT A COST OF $3200.00. WE WERE ALMOST IN AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE THE VEHICLE STOPPED SHIFTING WHILE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND BARELY MADE IT SAFELY TO THE SHOULDER. THERE WAS NO WARNING OR ENGINE LIGHT AND THE TRANSMISSION APPEARED FINE ALTHOUGH IT WAS BEYOND REPAIR. THE FLUID LEVEL WAS GOOD AND IT WAS NOT BURNED. CHEVROLET SAYS THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO AS THE WARRANTY IS FOR 3 YEARS AND 36000 MILES. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE ON AN INCLINE, THE PARKING BRAKE DID NOT HOLD. THIS PARKING BRAKE HAS ONLY BEEN USED TWICE SINCE PURCHASE. THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THE PARKING BRAKE LINING WAS WORN OUT AND THE PARKING BRAKE SHOES NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE WEAR OCCURRED BECAUSE THE BRAKE SHOES DO NOT FULLY RELEASE AFTER USE. *NM
JANUARY 1, 2006 JUST AFTER LEAVING MY HOME, I STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN AND WHEN I ACCELERATED FROM A STOP A LOUD CLUNK AND THEN A CONSTANT WHINNING SOUND. I DROVE THE VEHICLE HOME THE ONE MILE FROM THE STOP SIGN IN FIRST GEAR, THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT SHIFT TO SECOND, AFTER RETURNING HOME THE CAR WOULD NOT GO INTO REVERSE EITHER. TRANSMISSION FAILED AT 104,000 MILES. REPAIR SHOP SAYS THE TRANSMISSION SHELL AND OTHER COMPONENTS OF THE TRANSMISSION WAS CRACKED. THE TRANSMISSION SHOP STATES THAT THEY HAVE HAD SEVERAL CUSTOMERS THAT HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THIS TRANSMISSION. THEY WOULD CONSIDER THIS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS TYPE OF TRANSMISSION, A BAD DESIGN ACCORDING TO THE REPAIR SHOP. *NM
HEARD GRINDING NOISE WHEN BRAKING AT 58K. HAD IT CHECKED OUT AND RIGHT REAR PADS WORN THROUGH. NEED NEW ROTOR. LEFT REAR PADS NOT AS WORN BUT VERY CLOSE TO SAME SCENARIO. FRONT PADS WERE 50% GOOD. *NM
CONSUMERS 2002 SUBURBAN STEERING WHEEL LOCKED WHILE PULLING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE. *TS THE CONSUMER STATED THE POWER STEERING PUMP REPLACED. *JB
HAVE A 2002 CHEVY SUBURBAN 1500 LS. TOOK VEHICLE IN FOR INSPECTION, BUT FAILED DUE TO EMERGENCY OR PARKING BRAKE WOULD NOT HOLD IN DRIVE. IT DOES HOLD IN REVERSE. I CONTACTED MY DEALER AND THEY KNOW ALL ABOUT THIS PROBLEM, THEY SAY IT CAN NOT BE ADJUSTED, BUT MUST REPLACE BRAKES, MAYBE ROTORS, ETC AT A COST OF ~$800. I SEARCHED WEB, THERE IS NOT A RECALL, BUT LOTS OF COMPLAINTS. THERE IS ALSO A CLASS ACTION SUIT OUT OF TX? WHAT SHOULD I DO? *NM
2002 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN, FULL SIZE, 1500 HALF TON, 4X4, LT THE EMERGENCY/PARKING BRAKE HAS FAILED FOR THE SECOND TIME. THE EMERGENCY/PARKING BRAKES DO NOT HOLD EVEN ON A SLIGHT INCLINE. THE FIRST EMERGENCY/PARKING BRAKE FAILURE WAS NOTED ON 8/29/2003 AT 25,930 MILES. THE REPAIR TICKET NOTED THAT THE PARKING BRAKE SHOES WERE IMPROPERLY ADJUSTED, AND GM REPAIRED THE PROBLEM AT NO CHARGE UNDER WARRANTY. THE SECOND EMERGENCY/PARKING BRAKE FAILURE WAS NOTED AROUND 11/1/2005 AT APPX 40,050 MILES. THE SECOND FAILURE WAS THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM AS THE FIRST FAILURE. THIS TIME THE GM DEALER SAID THAT THE EMERGENCY/PARKING BRAKE SHOES WERE WORN OUT AND CHARGED US $273.18 TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM. THE REPAIRS FOR THE SECOND FAILURE CONSISTED OF TOTAL REPLACEMENT OF THE EMERGENCY/PARKING BRAKE SHOES. WE HAVE KEPT THE REPLACED FAILED BRAKE SHOES. NOTE: IN NORMAL USAGE OF THIS VEHICLE, THE EMERGENCY/PARKING BRAKES ARE RARELY ENGAGED. THE VEHICLE IS NORMALLY PARKED IN A LEVEL, HEATED GARAGE, TRANSMISSION SET IN PARK, EMERGENCY/PARKING BRAKE NEVER SET/ENGAGED. WITH THE FIRST FAILURE AT 25,930 MILES AND THE SECOND FAILURE JUST APPX 15,000 MILES LATER, WE SUSPECT THAT THERE IS POSSIBLY SOME DESIGN OR COMPONENT FAULT AND A VERY PRE-MATURE FAILURE PROBLEM. ALSO GIVEN THE AVAILABLE FACTS, IT LOOKS LIKE THE ORIGINAL WARRANTY REPAIR FOR THE FIRST FAILURE WAS POSSIBLY SUBSTANDARD IN THAT THE EMERGENCY/PARKING BRAKE SHOES WERE MERELY RE-ADJUSTED, WHEN THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPLACED. IN ADDITION, IN THE OWNERS MANUAL THERE IS NO MENTION OF THE EMERGENCY/PARKING BRAKES EVER NEEDING ADJUSTMENTS.
EMERGENCY BRAKE WASN'T WORKING WHEN I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. I DIDN'T KNOW IT AT THE TIME. I WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE EMERGENCY BRAKES AND THAT THERE MAY BE A RECALL TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I PURCHASED IT ON 10-15-2005. THE MILEAGE WAS 64095. MILEAGE NOW IS 70129. I WOULD ALWAYS USE THE BRAKE WITH MY GRANDKIDS IN THE VEHICLE SO IT WOULDN'T MOVE. NOW I FOUND OUT THAT I NEVER HAD ONE FOR SOME REASON. NEED IT FIXED IF ALL POSSIBLE. *JB
DT: THE TRUCK HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER BECAUSE THE BRAKES WOULD NOT IMMEDIATELY GRABBING AND THE TRUCK WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR REPAIR OF THE REAR BACKING PLATES WHICH BEGAN TO RUST AND BREAK APART. THIS WAS REPAIRED BY THE DEALER. THE DEALER HAD TO REPLACE THE BRAKES, CALIPERS, AND ROTORS ALONG WITH THIS REPAIR. BOTH REAR BRAKES AND HOUSING ASSEMBLIES WERE ALSO REPLACED, THE DEALER NOTED THEY TOO WERE RUSTED. ABOUT A WEEK AFTER THE REPAIR WHILE DRIVING THERE WAS A HISSING NOISE AND THOUGHT THAT THE TIRE MAY BE GOING FLAT. THE TIRE WAS NOT FLAT. THE CONTACT SLOWED AT A STOP SIGN, AND WHEN APPLYING BRAKE PRESSURE THERE WAS A GRINDING AND CLANKING NOISE EACH TIME BRAKE PRESSURE WAS APPLIED. THE CONTACT DROVE HOME. UPON INSPECTION OF THE VEHICLE NOTICED THE CALIPER FELL OFF AND THERE WAS A GROVE ON THE REAR DRIVERS SIDE RIM. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN BACK TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER TOWED THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE SHOP AND DETERMINED THERE WAS A BOLT FROM THE CALIPER THAT HAD SNAPPED AND CAUSED THE CALIPER TO FALL OFF. THE DEALER IS CURRENTLY COMPLETING REPAIRS ON THE VEHICLE. NHTSA RECALL NHTSA 05V379000 INVOLVING THE ANTI LOCK BRAKES WAS ISSUED , BUT CONTACT WAS UNSURE IF THIS VEHICLE WAS COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. *AK
COMPLAINT REGARDING SAFETY RECALL WARNING OF CORROSION DEFECT IN 2002 SUBURBAN. THIS COULD CAUSE FRONT HUB/BEARING ASSEMBLY AND WHEEL SPEED SENSOR TO FAIL. *TS RECALL CAMPAIGN#05V379000. THE CONSUMER EXPERIENCED EXACTLY WHAT THE RECALL DESCRIBED. THE CONSUMER REQUESTED REIMBURSEMENT. THE CONSUMER FOUND THAT THE REAR BRAKE BACKING PLATES WOULD NOT HOLD. THE REAR BRAKE BACKING PLATES WERE COMPLETELY CORRODED ALONG WITH THE REAR EMERGENCY BRAKE AND THEY NEEDED REPLACEMENT. *SC UPDATED 02/13/06. *JB
DURING EVACUATION FOR HURRICANE RITA AS WE WERE PROCEEDING IN TRAFFIC OUR 2002 CHEVY SUBURBAN JUST DIED. IT WAS AS IF IT WAS GETTING NO FUEL. WE HAD A FULL TANK. THE RPM AND POWER STEERING ALONG WITH THE ENGINE JUST WENT DEAD. SINCE THE HURRICANE I HAVE TALK TO 3 OTHER PEOPLE WITH SUBURBANS OR YUKONS THAT THIS HAPPEN TO. THE DEALERSHIP SAID IT WAS THE FUEL PUMP. I NOW THINK SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THESE VEHICLES. I HAVE THE FUEL PUMP TAKEN FROM MY SUBURBAN. *NM
ABS BRAKE MALFUNCTION IN 2002 SUBURBAN. GM SAYS HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL DEC. TO REPAIR. *NM
2002 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN. ANTILOCK BRAKING SYSTEM COMING ON OFTEN WITH LOW SPEED BRAKING. DEALERSHIP CONFIRMED SAME BUT SAID NOT TO WORRY ABOUT IT. NOW PROBLEM IS WORSE AND CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY. *NM
PURCHASED A NEW 2002 SUBURBAN K2500 IN AUG OF 2002. AT 17,000 MILES, THE AIR CONDITIONING WENT OUT. DEALER REPLACED THE COMPRESSOR. AT 27,000 MILES, THE FUEL GAUGE SHOWED EMPTY WHEN THE TANK WAS FULL. DEALER REPLACED REAR FUEL TANK SENDING UNIT. AT 55,000 MILES, THE FUEL TANK AGAIN SHOWED EMPTY WITH A FULL TANK AND THE ENGINE SURGED. THE DEALER (BOB STEELE IN COCOA FL) REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP IN THE REAR TANK AND THE SENDING UNIT IN THE FRONT TANK UNDER MY EXTENDED WARRANTY WITH A DEDUCTIBLE. DEALER STATED THIS WAS NOT A RECURRENCE OF THE PROBLEM BEFORE. AT 58,000 MILES THE CAR STALLED WHILE CROSSING OVER A BUSY BRIDGE/CAUSWAY AT APPROX. 60 MPH. "REDUCED ENGINE POWER" GLARED ON THE WARNING INDICATOR, POWER STEERING WAS LOST AND LIGHTS ON THE DASH WERE FLASHING ERRATICALLY. LUCKILY, I HAD CRESTED THE TOP OF THE CAUSWAY AND MANAGED TO STEER TO THE TINY SHOULDER WITHOUT CRASHING INTO ANYBODY. THE CAR WOULD NOT START IMMEDIATELY, BUT AFTER TRYING FOR FIFTEEN MINUTES I WAS ABLE TO GET IT STARTED AND DRIVE HOME. I CALLED THE DEALER (IT WAS FIVE MINUTES TO CLOSING TIME) AND WAS TOLD TO BRING IT IN THE NEXT DAY. IT STALLED AGAIN AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT ON THE WAY TO THE DEALER BUT STARTED IMMEDIATELY. THE DEALER REPLACED THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR UNDER MY EXTENDED WARRANTY WITH DEDUCTIBLE AND AGAIN STATED THAT NONE OF THESE FUEL/STALLING PROBLEMS WERE RELATED. THE CAR STALLED AGAIN RECENTLY AND THE DEALER SAID TO BRING IT IN IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN. THIS IS STARTING TO BECOME A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION THAT THE DEALER SEEMS TO BE VERY UNCONCERNED ABOUT. *NM
MY WIFE COMPLAINED THAT THE BRAKE SYSTEM WAS NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY ON OUR 2002 SUBURBAN. RANDOM FAILURES OCCURRED WITH THE ABS SYSTEM AT LOW SPEED WHILE COMING TO A STOP. PEDAL DID NOT RESPOND, PULSED AND VIBRATED. MALFUNCTION OF ABS BRAKE SYSTEM WAS IDENTIFIED AS CORROSION ISSUE SURROUNDING ABS SPEED SENSOR MOUNTING SURFACE. SPEED SENSORS WERE REMOVED AND AREAS CLEANED OF ALL CORROSION AND RUST. ELECTRICAL READINGS IMPROVED PERFORMANCE OF ONE SIDE (320MVAC PLUS) BUT DID NOT IMPROVE SECOND SENSOR (LESS THAN 200MVAC). FURTHER EVALUATION OF THE SENSOR REVEALED SIGNIFICANT WARPAGE TO THE SENSOR BASE ATTRIBUTED TO CORROSION. REQUIRED AIR GAP COULD NOT BE OBTAINED DUE TO THE WARPED BASE. REPLACED BOTH SENSORS. ELECTRICAL READING ON NEW SENSORS WERE GREATLY IMPROVED AND NO FURTHER MALFUNCTIONS HAVE OCCURRED. *NM
ABS ACTIVATES AT LOW SPEED BRAKING... MORE DIFFICULT TO STOP AND SCARY BECAUSE UNEXPECTED...DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE.. THE CAR STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS FALL 2004, BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR.. PROBLEM SEEM TO BE FIXED.. BUT RECENTLY STARTED HAVING THE PROBLEM AGAIN. *JB

THE BRAKES ON MY 2002 SUBURBAN BEGAN KICKING BACK DURING STOPS ON DRY CLEAN PAVEMENT NEAR THE END OF THE STOP. THIS CAUSED US TO DRIFT PAST STOP SIGNS ON A NUMBER OF OCCASIONS AND CAUSED NEAR COLLISIONS IN SLOW MOVING PARKING LOT DRIVING. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL DEALER, HAWKINS CHEVROLET OLDSMOBILE, INC. AND WAS TOLD THE ABS SPEED SENSOR WAS CORRODED AND NOT WORKING PROPERLY. THEY REPLACED THE ABS SPEED SENSORS ON THE TWO FRONT WHEELS ON 8/25/05 UNDER INVOICE CTCS85504. I INQUIRED ABOUT WHETHER THIS WOULD BE REPLACED FOR FREE GIVEN THE OBVIOUS SAFETY IMPLICATIONS AND WAS TOLD TO FILE A CLAIM WITH GM CUSTOMER SERVICE. THE SERVICE REP SAID THAT THIS WAS NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR AND DENIED THE CLAIM, BUT REGISTERED A COMPLAINT UNDER FILE# 1-355599627 ON 8/12/05. I CONDUCTED FURTHER RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND A NEWS ARTICLE ABOUT THE GM RECALL FOR THIS SAME DEFECT IN CANADA. *JB
I HAVE A 2002 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN, 1500 LT, 4WD. THE SUBURBAN WAS SERVICED ROUTINELY AT THE DEALER AND HAD 69,000 MILES. THE SHAFT IN THE POWER STEERING PUMP BROKE CAUSING COMPLETE AND TOTAL LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL. FORTUNATELY THIS HAPPENED OFF OF THE MAIN ROADWAY AND AT LOW SPEED, BUT CAUSED A COMPLETE LOSS OF STEERING ABILITY. IF THIS HAD HAPPENED ON THE HIGHWAY AT HIGH SPEED, THE EVENTS COULD HAVE BEEN FATAL. *JB
OVERLY SENSITIVE SEAT BELT MECHANISM. SLIGHTEST MOVEMENT WHILE DRIVING WILL CAUSE SEAT BELT TO LOCK, RESTRICTING THE PERSON DRIVING FROM NECESSARY MOVEMENT SUCH AS, LOOKING BEHIND VEHICLE BEFORE REVERSING OR LANE CHANGING, TAKING THE TICKET FROM MACHINE IN PARKING STRUCTURES, ECT. SEAT BELT HAS BEEN CHANGED ONCE BUT CONTINUES TO BE A PROBLEM. PROBLEM HAS BEEN WITH AUTO SINCE PURCHASED. *NM

AFTER NUMEROUS OTHER REPAIRS TO THIS VEHICLE, IT STARTED WHINING THROUGH THE FIRST FEW GEAR CHANGES. THE GM SHOP SAID THAT THE TORQUE CONVERTER WENT OUT AND THEY HAD TO OVERHAUL THE TRANSMISSION. IT IS STILL IN THE SHOP BECAUSE AFTER THEY PUT EVERYTHING BACK TOGETHER, THE WHINING NOISE IS STILL THERE. AFTER 11 DAYS AND THREE TEAR DOWNS AND REBUILDS, THE MECHANIC IS AT A LOSS AS TO WHAT IS WRONG. *JB
ANTILOCK BRAKING SYSTEM NEEDING TO BE REPAIRED WITH ONLY 49000 MILES ON VEHICLE. *NM
UPON STEPPING ON THE BRAKE AT LOW SPEED ANTI-LOCK BRAKES KICKED IN, BUT DID NOT STOP. NEEDED TO STEP ON BRAKE SEVERAL TIMES FOR THE VEHICLE TO STOP.
ANTI LOCK BRAKES ACTIVATE AT LOW SPEEDS, LEADING TO A LOSS OF CONTROL AND LONGER STOPING DISTANCES
I PURCHASE A 2002 CHEVY SUBURBAN ON 7/2/05 IN DELAWARE COUNTY FROM A DEALERSHIP. WE DROVE THE CAR TO OUR HOUSE IN MONTGOMERY COUNTY AND THE CAR DIDN'T MOVE FROM THE HOUSE UNTIL 7/4/05. ON 7/4/05 MY FIANCE DROVE THE CAR TO WORK AND THE TIRE EXPLODED FROM THE LEFT FRONT OF THE CAR ON THE WAY. THE CAR HIT THE BARRIER ON THE RIGHT SIDE AND BOUNCED OFF AND THEN PROCEEDED TO HIT THE LEFT SIDE BARRIER WERE IT CAME TO A STOP. THE TIRE WAS NOT RECOVERABLE. ALSO THE AIR BAG NEVER DEPLOYED. THE ACCIDENT HAPPEN GOING NORTH ON 309 IN BUCKS COUNTY ON A STRAIGHT UPHILL GRADIENT. THE CONDITIONS OF THE ROAD AND WEATHER WERE DRY. THERE IS A POLICE REPORT ON THE INCIDENT STATING ACCIDENT HAPPEN DUE TO TIRE FAILURE. ACCORDING TO THE INSPECTION STICKER THE TIRE WAS REMOVED AND INSPECTED BY THE DEALERSHIP. WE HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET THIS SETTLED WITH THE DEALERSHIP FOR THE PAST YEAR, SINCE WE ONLY HAD THE CAR FOR A LITTLE MORE THEN A DAY. THERE RESPONSE WAS AND STILL IS THAT THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO TO HELP. THE ESTIMATE WE RECEIVED FROM THE BODY SHOP WAS FOR $22,000 THEREFORE THE CAR WAS TOTALED AND IS CURRENTLY SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY. THE TIRE WAS A GOODYEAR WRANGLER P265/70R17. *JB
BRAKE PEDAL FAILED TO RELEASE CRUISE. BRAKES FAILED ALTOGETHER CAUSING BRAKES TO GO TO THE FLOOR, SUBSEQUENTLY VEHICLE HAD TO BE DRIVEN OFF ROAD TOWARD TRAFFIC BRINGING ABOUT LOSS OF CONTROL OF VEHICLE CAUSING CRASH INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE ON HIGHWAY AND HITTING A TELEPHONE POLE. VEHICLE WAS TOTALED.
WAS PULLING A TRAVEL TRAILER WHEN THE STOCK HITCH RECEIVER BROKE OFF CAUSING ME TO LOSE CONTROL OF MY VEHICLE, CAUSING A DEATH, AND MULTIPLE INJURIES TO THE WHOLE FAMILY. VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. *JB

DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, CAR ENGINE DIED IMMEDIATELY AFTER SPUTTERING AND LOSING POWER. FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED, I PULLED OFF THE ROAD AND RESTARTED THE CAR ALMOST IMMEDIATELY. DROVE ANOTHER 600 MILES WITHOUT INCIDENT. SECOND TIME, CAR DIED AGAIN AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. RESTARTED AFTER 15 MINUTES. AFTER REPORTING THE PROBLEM TO ON-STAR AND HAVING REMOTE DIAGNOSTICS RUN, I DROVE ANOTHER 25 MILES TOWARDS DEALERSHIP RATHER THAN WAITING FOR TOW. (118 DEG HEAT IN DESERT SUN). ENGINE FAILED AGAIN ABOUT 200 YDS FROM DEALERSHIP. DEALER REPLACED FUEL PUMP, PRESSURE REGULATOR, AND FILTER. CROPPER AUTO GROUP IN CASA GRANDE, AZ, KEPT THE DEFECTIVE PARTS. I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS BEFORE WITH FUEL LEVEL SENSOR INDICATING PROPERLY ON THIS VEHICLE. THIS REPAIR ALSO REPLACED FUEL LEVEL SENDING UNIT. $800+ REPAIR. 60,000 MILES ON THE CAR. EXTREMELY HAZARDOUS LOSS OF POWER AND CONTROL WHEN ENGINE DIES WITHOUT WARNING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. NOTICED AT LEAST 5 IDENTICAL COMPLAINTS ON NHTSA WEBSITE: OID ID NUMBERS 10041486, 10079660, 10099685, 10100051, 10126511.

I OWN A 2002 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN WITH A LITTLE MORE THAN 50,000 MILES. I HAVE JUST HAD MY THIRD SET OF PARKING BRAKE SHOES INSTALLED ON MY CAR. THE FIRST PAIR WERE REPLACED WHEN THE CAR WAS UNDER WARRANTY! THIS CAR HAS ITS OWN UNIQUE PARKING BRAKE PADS AND ROTOR. THERE MUST BE SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE DESIGN OF THIS SYSTEM, I HAVE NEVER HAD ANOTHER CAR THAT REQUIRED THE REAR BRAKE PADS TO BE REPLACEDTHIS FREQUENTLY! IF I WAS EVERY ENOVLVED IN AN INCIDENT WHERE I WOULD HAVE NEEDED THE EMERCENCY BRAKE(PARKING), I DON'T THINK IT WOULD BE CAPABLE OF STOPPING THIS VEHICLE. Y RECOMMONDATION IS THAT YOU ISSUE A RECALL TO CORRECT THE INHERRENT DEFECTS IN THE SUBURBANS PARKING/EMERGENCY BRAKE SYSTEM.

THOSE WERE THE ONLY KNOWN PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE AT THIS TIME. *AK
AFTER HAVING OTHER REAR-END WORK DONE EARLIER, WE HAD TO HAVE THEM REPLACE TWO U-JOINTS. *JB
MY WIFE AND I HAVE BEEN VERY HAPPY WITH THE VEHICLE UNTIL A SITUATION LAST YEAR. SPECIFICALLY, THERE IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE GAS TANK AND GAUGE. THE GAS TANK WILL BE A 1/4 FULL BUT THE CAR WILL NOT START BECAUSE IT THINKS THE GAS TANK IS EMPTY. MY LOCAL GM DEALER SERVICE CENTER QUOTED ME OVER $800 TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. IT IS A KNOWN GM DEFECT. AT A SLOW SPEED STOP, THE ABS KICKS IN, INCREASING STOPPING DISTANCE. I HAVE COME CLOSE TO AN ACCIDENT TWICE.

WHEN I APPLY MY BRAKES, THE ANTILOCK IS HEARD & THE BRAKES ARE NOT FIRM. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR ABOUT 2 MONTHS. IT SCARES ME BECAUSE WHEN I SLOWLY COME UP TO A CORNER, I DON'T KNOW IF I'M GOING TO STOP OR NOT! IF I TAKE IT TO A MECHANIC, THEY WILL PUT NEW BRAKES ON, WHICH I DON'T NEED, BUT IT ISN'T GOING TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM.
AT LOW SPEEDS WHEN PRESSING THE BRAKES THE ABS BRAKES ON MY 2002 CHEVY SUBURBAN PUMP AND ALLOW THE VEICHLE TO MOVE FORWARD. HAVE HAD TWO OCCASSIONS WERE THIS ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. DEALER PARKWAY MOTORS CALUMET MICHIGAN DETERMINED IT WAS CORROSION ON THE ABS SENSORS. THEY TOLD ME THEY FIRST REPORTED THE PROBLEM TO GM ENGINEERING 3 YEARS AGO AND CURRENTLY THE SEE ALMOST ONE OF THESE PROBLEMS A DAY.

OVER THE LAST FEW MONTHS HAVE DECIDED THE PARKING BRAKE WAS A PROBLEM. THERE WAS A SLOPE IN DRIVEWAY, TESTED, AND FOUND THAT IT DID NOT WORK. DID NOT TAKE BACK TO DEALER, BUT OWNER FELT IT WAS A DESIGN DEFECT. *AK
