MY 2002 CHEVROLET 2500 SUBURBAN 8.1L, HAS BEEN STALLING CONTINUOUSLY. IT STALLS WHEN DRIVING, SLOW, FAST OR EVEN AT A RED LIGHT, IT DOESN'T MATTER. I HAVE HAD THE FUEL PUMP, STARTER, ALTERNATOR AND BATTER ALL REPLACED. I HAVE READ ON MANY SITES THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THE SAME VEHICLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
PAINT ON THE ROOF AND HOOD STARTED TO FADE. *TR
WHEN THE CAR IS COLD, THE STEERING RESISTS VERY STRONGLY A TURN TO THE RIGHT IN THE FIRST 10-20 DEGREES OF STEERING WHEEL TURN TO THE RIGHT OF STRAIGHT. THE STRENGTH OF RESISTANCE IS VARIABLE, DEPENDING ON THE SPEED OF THE VEHICLE. SITTING STILL, THERE IS A SLIGHT ?HITCH? OR NOTHING AT ALL. AS VEHICLE SPEED INCREASES, THE AMOUNT OF RESISTANCE INCREASES TO A MAX AT ABOUT 20-25 MPH, WHERE IT TAKES AN ?ARM WRESTLE? FORCE TO MOVE THE STEERING TO THE RIGHT. IT RESISTS, FIGHTS BACK, THEN WITH A LOT OF MUSCLE ? POPS THROUGH THIS RESISTANCE AND FEELS PERFECTLY NORMAL. THE HARD MUSCLE PULL TO THE RIGHT, AND SUBSEQUENT RELEASE MAKES THE TRACK OF THE CAR TEND STRAIGHT, AND THEN JERK RIGHT. WHEN THE CAR HAS THIS MALFUNCTION, IT REQUIRES THE MOST PHYSICAL POWER TO PULL THE STEERING TO THE RIGHT THE FIRST TIME. SUCCESSIVE TURNS TO THE RIGHT ARE EASIER AND EASIER, UNTIL AFTER ABOUT 4-5 CYCLES TO THE RIGHT, THE STEERING IS ?NORMAL.? SYMPTOMS ARE GONE WITHIN 1 MILE OF DRIVING. THIS MALFUNCTION OCCURS USUALLY WHEN THE VEHICLE IS COLD AND HAS NOT BEEN DRIVEN FOR SEVERAL DAYS. IT ALSO IS MORE PREVALENT WHEN THE OUTSIDE AIR TEMPERATURE IS COLD. THERE ARE EXCEPTIONS TO BOTH. IT RESISTED TURNS TO THE RIGHT IN THE MORNING, AND EQUALLY AS MUCH THAT EVENING RETURNING HOME FROM WORK. IT HAS SHOWN UP IN THE SUMMER, BUT MORE OFTEN IN THE WINTER. IT DOES NOT DO IT EVERY DAY. I DESCRIBE IT AS PERMANENT, PERSISTENTLY INTERMITTENT. VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER THREE TIMES, AND LEFT DAYS AND WEEKS AT A TIME. AT THE LAST INCIDENT, THE DEALER REPLACED THE STEERING POSITION SENSOR. FREQUENCY OF MALFUNCTION DECREASED, BUT THE PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN RESOLVED. THE FACT THAT THE VEHICLE WILL NOT TAKE NORMAL STEERING COMMANDS IS IN ITSELF HAZARDOUS. ON SLIPPERY SURFACES, THE LIKELIHOOD OF LOSS OF CONTROL IS SEVERE. *TR
I HAVE A 2002 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN 2500 4 WD WITH AN 8.1 LITER ENGINE WITH 67,000 MILES ON IT. IT HAS STALLED OUT 5 TIMES OVER THE LAST 6 MONTHS, NEARLY CAUSING A SERIOUS CRASH ON THE SECOND TO LAST ONE ON INTERSTATE ROUTE 80 OUTSIDE OF SPARTA, NEW JERSEY. THE ENGINE JUST STOPS AND I HAVE NO CONTROL OVER THE VEHICLE. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO TWO MECHANICS WHO HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO REPAIR IT. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. WHAT SHOULD I DO AND WHERE SHOULD I GO TO GET THIS FIXED. IT IS A LIFE SAFETY ISSUE NOT ONLY FOR ME, BUT MY FAMILY AND HORSES WHEN WE HAUL HORSES FOR OUR EQUESTRIAN ACTIVITIES. CAN YOU IMAGINE THE DISASTER THIS WOULD BE WITH PEOPLE AND HORSES ON THE HIGHWAY IF THE VEHICLE STOPS DEAD!!?? *TR
TL*-THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN. WHILE DRIVING AT 55 MPH THE CONTACT HEARD A GRINDING NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT PASSENGER WHEEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE MECHANIC. THE WHEEL HUB ASSEMBLY HAD TO BE REPLACED. WHEN SHE ATTEMPTS TO APPLY THE BRAKES, THE VEHICLE SLIDES AT FIRST AND EVENTUALLY STOPS. SHE HAS EXPERIENCED THIS FAILURE NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER AGAIN AS OF THIS DATE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 79,200. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 79,007. UPDATED 4/23/08 *CN
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN 1500. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY, THE LIFTGATE GLASS SEPARATED FROM THE HINGE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT NO WIND WAS BLOWING AT THE TIME. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY WOULD NEED TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE LIFTGATE WITH A DIFFERENT DESIGN. THE PURCHASE DATE WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 68,000.
CLANKING IN STEERING WHEEL / COLUMN. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP, WAS TOLD EVERYTHING WAS FINE JUST HOW 2002 SUBURBANS RUN. NOT HAPPY WITH ANSWER, TOOK IT BACK AGAIN, INTERMEDIATE SHAFT WAS REPLACED. 6 MONTHS LATER, SAME THING, AGAIN INTERMEDIATE SHAFT WAS REPLACED. GUESS WHAT, MAKING APPOINTMENT TO GO BACK BECAUSE OF SAME PROBLEM IN STEERING, WITH CLANKING AND VIBRATION, CAN HEAR IT AND FEEL MOSTLY WITH ANY TURN OF THE WHEEL....BET IT WILL ONCE AGAIN BE AN INTERMEDIATE SHAFT REPLACEMENT AND 3 DAYS WITH OUT MY VEHICLE! *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN 2500. WHILE DRIVING, THE VEHICLE STALLED. A RED WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT CONTROL PANEL PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. OCCASIONALLY, THE VEHICLE LOSES POWER STEERING AND BRAKING ABILITY. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO NUMEROUS DEALERS, BUT NO ONE COULD DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WOULD NOT ASSIST. THE PLASTIC HINGE ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE REAR WINDOW GLASS ON THE SUBURBAN TAILGATE HAS SEPARATED WHERE IT WAS ORIGINALLY JOINED AND THE WINDOW IS NO LONGER ATTACHED TO THE VEHICLE ON THIS SIDE. IN TALKING TO ONE OF THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP REPAIR SHOPS AND A LOCAL AUTO GLASS COMPANY, I WAS TOLD BY BOTH THAT THIS WAS A FAIRLY COMMON PROBLEM WITH SUBURBANS. I THINK THIS IS A POTENTIAL SAFETY ISSUE AS WIND SHEAR UNDER THE GLASS COULD RIP THE GLASS OFF MY VEHICLE AND CREATE A PROBLEM FOR ANYONE BEHIND ME. GIVEN WHAT I WAS TOLD BY THE REPAIR SHOPS, HAS AN INVESTIGATION OF THIS PROBLEM BEEN CONSIDERED OR CONDUCTED AND IS THERE CONSIDERATION OF A RECALL FOR THIS DEFECT? *TR
THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE LIFT GLASS SEPARATED AND THE GLASS WOULDN'T CLOSE. YOU HAD TO MANUALLY LINE IT UP. APPARENTLY THIS IS A BIG PROBLEM BUT GM WONT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. THE CUSTOMER SHOULDN'T HAVE TO PAY OVER $800 TO GET THIS FIXED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN. WHILE BACKING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY AT LESS THAN 5 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE DEALER AND WAS ADVISED TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE SHOP. HE STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS NOT THE POWER STEERING BECAUSE HE COULD NOT TURN THE WHEEL AT ALL TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 74,000. ABS ELECTRONIC BRAKE CONTROL MODULE PERMANENTLY FAILED RESULTING IN LOSS OF ANTI LOCK BRAKES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN 1500. THE CONTACT STATED WHEN TRAVELING AT SPEEDS BETWEEN 3 TO 10 MPH, THE ABS WOULD INDEPENDENTLY ACTIVATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 07E106000 (WHEELS: CAP/COVER/HUB). THE REMEDY STATED THE DEALER WAS TO PULL THE SPEED SENSOR, CLEAN THE RUST AND REINSTALL THE SPEED SENSOR. THE CONTACT STATED AFTER REPAIRS, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE DEALER ADVISED THE VEHICLE COULD BE REPAIRED BUT AT THE CONTACTS EXPENSE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 50,200.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN. THE VEHICLE HAS FIRESTONE WILDERNESS, SIZE P26570R16 TIRES. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A CLICKING SOUND COMING FROM THE FRONT TIRES. HE INSPECTED THE TIRES AND NOTICED THAT THE TREAD WAS SEPARATING. THE TIRE SHOP STATED THAT THE TIRES WERE DEFECTIVE. AS OF JULY 25, 2007, THE TIRES HAVE NOT BEEN REPLACED. THE DOT NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 31,163 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000.
3RD FAILURE OF THE INTERMEDITE STEERING SHAFT ON THE 2002 CHEVROLET 1/2 TON SUBURBAN. *AK
I DRIVE A 2002 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN. FREQUENTLY, WHILE I WAS DRIVING AND WITH NO WARNING THE VEHICLE JUST SHUTS OFF. WHEN THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF, IT DID NOT HAVE POWER BRAKES OR POWER STEERING. AFTER STOPPING AND TURNING THE KEY OFF FOR A COUPLE OF MINUTES I COULD START UP THE VEHICLE AND CONTINUE DRIVING. THIS SITUATION FIRST STARTED LAST FALL. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL GARAGE WHICH COULD FIND ANY PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO EXPERIENCE THESE UNPREDICTABLE SHUT OFFS ,AND I TOOK VEHICLE TO THE CHEVROLET DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR. THE DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE TRUCK CONTINUED TO SHUT OFF ON THE HIGHWAY AND IN THE CITY AT HIGHWAY AND CITY SPEEDS, WHILE SLOWING DOWN AND WHILE ACCELERATING. THIS WAS A DANGEROUS SITUATION AS IT HDS SHUT OFF WHILE TOWING A TRAILER. THE SHUT OFFS DID NOT CORRELATE WITH WEATHER, TIME OF DAY, USEAGE, TEMPERATURE, OR SPEED. LOSETPOWER STEERING AND BRAKES WHICH IMPACTED THE ABILITY TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE. *AK
I DRIVE A 2002 CHEVY SUBURBAN. FREQUENTLY, WHILE I AM DRIVING AND WITH NO WARNING, THE VEHICLE JUST SHUTS OFF. WHEN THE VEHICLE SHUTS OFF, I DO NOT HAVE POWER BRAKES OR POWER STEERING. AFTER A FEW MINUTES, I CAN TYPICALLY START UP THE VEHICLE AND CONTINUE DRIVING. THIS SITUATION FIRST STARTED LAST OCTOBER. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL GARAGE AFTER THE THIRD INCIDENT BECAUSE THE CHEVY DEALER WAS BOOKED. THE GARAGE COULD FIND NO PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO EXPERIENCE THESE UNPREDICTABLE SHUT OFFS AND I TOOK IT IN TO THE CHEVY DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR. THE DEALER KEPT THE TRUCK FOR NEARLY A MONTH AND COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE TRUCK CONTINUED TO SHUT OFF, ON THE HIGHWAY AND IN THE CITY. I TOOK IT TO A DIFFERENT DEALER AND EXPLAINED THE PROBLEM AND SHARED THE RESULTS OF THE DIAGNOSTICS. THE SECOND DEALER ALSO COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE TRUCK. A THIRD DEALER HAD THE BENEFIT OF TAKING THE VEHICLE AFTER IT HAD SHUT OFF TWICE WITHIN A 24 HOUR PERIOD--BOTH AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THE THIRD DEALER COULD FIND NO SPECIFIC CODES ON THE COMPUTER DIAGNOSTICS THAT COULD EXPLAIN THE PROBLEM AND GAVE ME BACK MY VEHICLE. THIS TRUCK CONTINUES TO SHUT OFF WHILE I AM DRIVING. THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION AS IT HAS SHUT OFF WHILE I AM TOWING A TRAILER, AND WHILE I AM TRAVELING ONTO EXITS. THE SHUT OFFS DO NOT CORRELATE WITH WEATHER, TIME OF DAY, USAGE, TEMPERATURE, OR SPEED. THE LATEST INCIDENT OCCURRED ON 30 MAY AS I APPROACHED A CITY INTERSECTION. THE TRUCK IS PARKED, FOR NOW. *TR
VEHICLE WOULD STALL WHILE DRIVING WITHOUT WARNING AT ALL DIFFERENT SPEEDS INCLUDING HIGHWAY SPEEDS. VEHICLE WOULD SOMETIMES STALL 3 TIMES PER DAY, AND SOMETIMES NOT AT ALL IN A DAY. LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES RESULTED WHICH SOMETIMES PRESENTED A CHALLENGE TO SAFELY GET THE VEHICLE OFF THE HIGHWAY OR ROADWAY WHILE COASTING TO A STOP. STALLS OCCURED SEVERAL TIMES WHILE TOWING A 5000 POUND BOAT AND ALSO OCCURED WHILE TOWING A 9000 POUND CAMPER TRAILER. TWO DEALERS LOOKED AT THE VEHICLE AND REPORTED FINDING NO CAUSE FOR THE STALLING. I FOUND AN AUTOMOTIVE INTERNET DISCUSSION FORUM WHERE MANY OTHER PEOPLE REPORTED THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE 8.1L ENGINE. MANY OF THESE PEOPLE REPORTED THAT THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR WAS THE CAUSE, AND THAT REPLACING THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM. I TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THE SENSOR REPLACED, AND THE VEHICLE HAS NOT STALLED AT ALL SINCE THE SENSOR WAS REPLACED.*AK
KNOWN PROBLEMS WITH A/C COMPRESSOR ON 2002 SUBURBAN/TAHOE WITH REAR A/C. DEFECTIVE SYSTEM CAUSES LOUD CHATTER IN BELT TENSIONER DUE TO SLUGS OF LIQUID REFRIGERANT BEING PUSHED INTO THE COMPRESSOR. PROBLEMS FREQUENT ENOUGH FOR GM TO HAVE ISSUED TSB #01139B BUT GM REFUSES TO ISSUE A RECALL ON THIS OBVIOUS DEFECT. LITERALLY THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS DEFECT ARE DOCUMENTED ON THE INTERNET. *TR
TL*- THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN WITH A CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE OF 74,500 MILES. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FUEL GAUGE STOPPED WORKING. ONCE THE FUEL GAUGE REACHED THE HALF WAY MARK IT WOULD SUDDENLY DROP AND REGISTER AN 'EMPTY' READING. THE CONTACT CALLED THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM. WHEN THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER THEY TOLD HIM THAT THEY COULD NOT ASSIST HIM.
AT LOW SPEEDS (<30 MPH) ABS ACTIVATES WHICH IS LEADING TO AN INCREASE IN STOPPING DISTANCE. HAS POTENTIAL FOR ACCIDENTS IN RESIDENTIAL AND CITY TRAFFIC. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM WOULD INTERMITTENTLY ACTIVATE AT LESS THAN 10 MPH AND WHEN DEPRESSING THE BRAKES. THE BRAKE PEDAL WOULD VIBRATE ABNORMALLY WITH AN INCREASE IN STOPPING DISTANCE AND TIME. THE DEALER REPLACED THE BRAKES YET THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
I PURCHASED A NEW 2002 SUBURBAN. MY INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT HAS BEEN REPLACED/REPAIRED AT LEAST 5 TIMES SINCE I DROVE IT OFF THE SHOWROOM FLOOR. THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT HAS BEGUN TO MAKE NOISES AGAIN, INDICATING IT IS TIME FOR YET ANOTHER SERVICE TRIP. *NM
ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS MY 2002 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN STALLED WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY. AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES THE TRUCK WOULD RESTART. THE CHEVY DEALER SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO SINCE THEY WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE CONDITION. IT DOES NOT TRIGGER A CHECK ENGINE SIGNAL. IT USUALLY HAPPENS AFTER LONG PERIODS OF FREEWAY DRIVING WITH NO WARNING. THIS IS NOT A LOW FUEL ISSUE. I SUSPECT IT IS A CRANK POSITION SENSOR FAILING AFTER RESEARCHING THE ISSUE ON THE INTERNET. *JB
I WAS UNABLE TO HAVE MY 2002 SUBURBAN INSPECTED. THE PARKING BRAKE BAND ON THE DRIVERS SIDE HAD TO BE REPLACED AS WELL AS THE BRAKE DRUM THIS DECEMBER. MY VEHICLE ONLY HAS 92K MILES. MY FATHER-IN-LAW HAS THE SAME YEAR/MAKE VEHICLE AND HE HAD TO HAVE HIS PARKING BRAKE REPLACED, BUT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. HIS VEHICLE ONLY HAS 76K MILES. CHEVROLET HAS A SERVICE BULLETIN OUT THAT THIS MODEL VEHICLE IS PRONE TO THIS PROBLEM, YET WILL NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR REPAIRS OR REPLACEMENT. *NM
TL* - THE CONTACT STATES THAT WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT BOTH SIDE VIEW MIRRORS CREATE A DOUBLE-VISION. PER THE CONTACT THIS CAUSES HER NOT TO BE ABLE TO USE HER SIDE VIEW MIRRORS. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD HER THAT THERE HAVE BEEN COMPLAINTS IN THE PASS REGARDING THE SAME ISSUE.
GOOD YEAR TIRE FAILURE. BUBBLING OCCURRING ON INTERIOR SIDE WALLS. CUPPING ALSO OCCURRING. I HAVE HAD 9 GOOD YEAR TIRES IN FOUR YEARS ON MY 2002 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN. *JB
THIS IN REFERENCE TO A CLOSED NHTSA ACTION # DP05009. AFTER A PARKING BRAKE FAILURE THAT OCCURRED ON THIS 2002 CHEVY SUBURBAN WITH 54,000 MILES ON IT, IN NOVEMBER, I LOOKED INTO SIMILAR SITUATIONS WITH OTHER SUBURBAN OWNERS AND OF THE 3 I FOUND, 2 IN SOUTH CAROLINA, AND ONE IN INDIANA, ALL HAD SIMILAR PARKING BRAKE PROBLEMS. WHEN I BROUGHT MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR, I WAS TOLD THERE WERE NO RECALLS OR SAFETY NOTICES REGARDING THIS PROBLEM. AFTER REVIEWING YOUR NHTSA SITE, I SEE THAT THIS PROBLEM WAS ADDRESSED AND CLOSED BUT ONLY APPLIED TO VEHICLE WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS, EVEN THOUGH THE PROBLEM WAS IN AUTOMATIC MODELS TOO, WHICH WAS APPARENTLY GLOSSED OVER BECAUSE OF THE PERCENTAGE OF ROLL AWAY INCIDENTS. THIS PROBLEM IS STILL OUT THERE, AND CHEVY DENIES IT. CHEVY NEEDS TO ACKNOWLEDGE THIS AS A SERIES WIDE PROBLEM AND FIX IT ON A RECALL BASIS. THE INSULTING THING ABOUT THIS IS THE DEALERSHIP ACTS LIKE IT IS SOMETHING NEW, AND PERHAPS I WAS LEAVING THE PARKING BRAKE ON ALL THE TIME. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE NOTICE FOR NHTSA RECALL# 05V379000 PERTAINING TO THE ABS WAS RECEIVED AFTER THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN REPAIRED BY A PRIVATE REPAIR SHOP. THE CONTACT NOTIFIED THE MANUFACTURER OF THE REPAIR TO DISCUSS REIMBURSEMENT, HOWEVER THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT RETURNED ANY PHONE CALLS.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HOUSTON TOLLWAY AT 65 MPH, MY 2002 SUBURBAN SUDDENLY AND WITHOUT WARNING LOST POWER AND THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. I MANAGED TO GET THE VEHICLE ONTO THE SHOULDER WITHOUT INCIDENT AFTER ATTEMPTING TO RESTART THE ENGINE WHILE TRYING TO STEER CLEAR OF TRAFFIC. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START AND WAS TOWED TO LONE STAR CHEVROLET IN HOUSTON, TEXAS. THE BILL WAS 1045.10. THEY REPLACED THE FUEL MODULE AND THE FUEL FILTER AND TOLD ME THAT THERE HAD BEEN SOME PROBLEMS WITH GM VEHICLES DATING BACK TO 1999 MODELS ON THE SAME PROBLEM. MINE HAD ONLY 70158 MI. I THINK GM SHOULD REIMBURSE ME FOR THE COST OF REPAIR. I TALKED TO A CUSTOMER WHO HAD A SIMILAR PROBLEM ON HIS 1999 GMC SUBURBAN AND THEY FILED A COMPLAINT WITH GM AND WAS REIMBURSED FOR THE REPAIR. FAIR IS FAIR AND I EXPECT NOTHING LESS FROM THEM. *JB

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALERSHIP WHERE THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THE VEHICLE NEEDED A NEW IGNITION SWITCH. WHILE DRIVING BACK HOME THE VEHICLE STALLED AGAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED 100 MILES TO A DEALERSHIP WHERE THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THE VEHICLE HAD A FAULTY FUEL PUMP. THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED THE CONTACT THERE WAS A HISTORY OF FAULTY FUEL PUMPS WITH THIS YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL.

CRANK POSITION SENSOR FAILURE RESULTING IN SUDDEN ENGINE STALL WHILE DRIVING IN CERTAIN GM VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH 8.1L ENGINES. IN SOME CASES, THE COMPLAINANTS ALLEGED THAT AS RESULT OF THE ENGINE SHUTTING DOWN, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. *NM

THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THE ELECTRONIC BRAKE CONTROL MODULE AND A MODULE BRAKE PRESSURE VALVE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THERE IS AN NHTSA RECALL, # 05V379000 REGARDING THE SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC: ANTILOCK. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL.
#5 CYLINDER 1164 MISFIRES. COLLAPSED LIFTER, BROKEN RINGS. THE DEALERSHIP WENT ON FISHING EXPEDITION, CHARGING ME $271.82 FOR UNNECESSARY WORK (NEW SPARK PLUG AND WIRES). WENT FOR SECOND DIAGNOSES, CORRECTLY DIAGNOSED THIS TIME INDICATING THE ABOVE. MECHANIC CONTACTED GMPP (EXTENDED WARRANTY),TOLD GMPP THAT THE ENGINE SHOULD BE REPLACED. THE MECHANIC WAS ADVISED TO TELL ME TO RETURN TO DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE. *NM
EMERGENCY BRAKE FAILURE ON MY 2002 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN. THE SAME THING HAPPENED ON MY SON-IN-LAW'S 2002 CHEV. SUBURBAN. NEITHER OF US KNEW THIS UNTIL WE TOOK OUR VEHICLES IN FOR A STATE INSPECTION STICKER & IT FAILED INSPECTION. WAS TOLD THERE WAS A SERVICE BULLETIN ON THIS PROBLEM BUT GMC DID NOT TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY. WE BOTH, HAD THE REPAIR DONE AT OUR EXPENSE.
THE VEHICLE IN QUESTION IS A 2002 CHEVROLET 2500 4X4 SUBURBAN. THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING DOWN THE ROAD AND WITHOUT TOUCHING THE BRAKE PEDAL THE FRONT BRAKES LOCK UP AND THE VEHICLE SHAKES AND IS ALMOST UNCONTROLLABLE TO STOP. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT THE CHEVY DEALERSHIP. THEY ARE REPLACING THE SPEED SENSORS IN THE HUBS BUT THEY ARE STATING THAT THEY HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS PROBLEM. *JB

MY HUSBAND AND I BOUGHT A 2002 SUBURBAN FROM CARMAX LESS THAN 1 YR AGO. WE PAID AN EXTRA $2500 FOR A BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY ON THEIR "CERTIFIED USED CAR" PROGRAM. I NOTICED THAT THERE ARE TINY RUST SPOTS ON THE HOOD. CARMAX SAID I NEED TO APPROACH CHEVY AND THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. BUT THAT'S NOT THE WORST OF IT: HERE I AM 8 MONTHS OWNING THE CAR AND LESS THAN 8,000 MILES PUT ON IT AND I HAD TO TAKE THE CAR IN TO A TIRE SHOP BECAUSE ONE OF THE TIRES HAD A SLOW LEAK. WHEN THEY INSPECTED THE TIRES THEY SAID TAKE IT BACK TO CARMAX IMMEDIATELY - YOUR TIRES ARE SEPARATING FROM THE TREADS AND IT'S VERY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE AS IS. WE TOOK IT BACK TO CARMAX WHO THEN SAID IT WASN'T THEIR PROBLEM, WE HAD TO TAKE IT TO A FIRESTONE DEALER. WE WENT TO THE FIRESTONE DEALER, WHO THEN SAID CARMAX SHOULD NEVER HAVE SOLD US A "CERTIFIED USED CAR" WITH THE TIRES IN THIS BAD OF SHAPE - THAT THEY HAD "COVERED UP THE DRY ROT ON THE TIRES" AND THAT IT IS UNSAFE. THE WHOLE REASON WHY I BOUGHT THIS HUGE CAR (AND IT WAS EXPENSIVE!) WAS SO MY THREE CHILDREN WOULD BE SAFE. I WANT TO TAKE CARMAX TO COURT, BUT DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT MY RIGHTS AS A CONSUMER. AFTER HEARING OTHER STORIES ABOUT HITCH FAILURE I INSPECTED MINE AND NOTICED THE WELDS WERE CRACKING. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THERE WAS A LOW METAL TO METAL GRINDING NOISE HEARD WHILE DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL. AS THE DAY WENT ON, THE SOUND BECAME PROGRESSIVELY LOUDER AND LOUDER. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A GOODYEAR TIRE CENTER WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THE REAR BRAKES; BOTH REAR ROTORS AND THE RIGHT REAR EMERGENCY BRAKE SHOE WERE COMPLETELY WORN OUT. ALL FOUR BRAKE SHOES AND ROTORS WERE REPLACED. THE CONTACT NEVER USED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. THE DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN ALERTED.

THE DEALER DID NOT HAVE ANY RECALLS FOR THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT FEELS THAT THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL DUE TO THE MANY REPAIRS RELATED TO THE WHEEL FAILURE. SHE STATED THAT A RUNNING BOARD LIGHT IS DIM ON THE FRONT LEFT SIDE OF HER VEHICLE, WHICH SHE HAS NOTICED ON MANY SUBURBANS. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 65,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000.
