OBVIOUS CORROSION ON BRAKE LINES OF 2004 CHEVY SUBURBAN. BY JUST APPLYING THE BRAKE FOR FEW TIMES, THE BRAKE FLUID IS GUSHING UNDERNEATH THE DRIVER SIDE (BETWEEN THE FRONT AND REAR WHEELS). ALSO NOTICE RUSTING BRAKE LINES UP TO THE ENGINE HOOD (THIS THING SHOULD DEFINITELY NOT HAPPENED, I NEVER HAD A PROBLEM LIKE THIS BEFORE IN ANY VEHICLE I HAD OWNED, BRAKE LINES SHOULD LAST EVEN BEYOND THE LIFETIME OF THE VEHICLE!). I ALSO INFORMED CHEVY (TEL: 800-222-1020)ABOUT THIS LIFE SAFETY FAILURE, THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS DEFECT AND CHEVY MUST ISSUE A RECALL ON THIS CORROSION PROBLEM ON BRAKE LINES. *TR
BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE A FEW DAYS BEFORE THE FIRST INCIDENT. I DROVE IT HOME FROM OVER TWO HOURS AWAY, DROVE IT ALL AROUND THE DAY BEFORE, NO PROBLEMS. THEN I WAS DRIVING DOWN A BYPASS AT ABOUT 60 MILES AN HOUR AND THE ENGINE SHUT OFF! I HAD NO POWER STEERING, NOTHING! I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER, SHUT IT OFF AND ONCE I TURNED IT BACK OVER IT WAS JUST FINE. SO I CAUTIOUSLY STARTED DRIVING, IT HAPPENED AGAIN A FEW MILES DOWN THE ROAD ONLY THIS TIME IT STALLED THEN REGAINED POWER AND QUICKLY SHUT OFF AGAIN. ONCE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED, IT WAS FINE, IT DID THIS TO ME 5 TIMES WITHIN 5 MILES. I ALMOST GOT HIT TWO OF THOSE TIMES BY OTHER VEHICLES, ONCE WHEN I WAS TURNING ONTO A ROAD. I AM GLAD MY KIDS WERE NOT IN IT. I AM SCARED TO DRIVE ON TWO LANE ROADS WITHOUT ROOM TO PULL OVER. *TR
DRIVING DOWN HIGHWAY COMING TO RED LIGHT DEPRESSED BRAKE PEDAL, PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. COULD NOT STOP VEHICLE BEFORE GOING THROUGH RED LIGHT, HELD DOWN VEHICLE HORN TO WARN OTHER DRIVERS WHICH SAVED ME FROM INJURING/KILLING SOMEONE ELSE OR MYSELF. AFTER GETTING VEHICLE ON SHOULDER OF ROAD NOTICED BRAKE FLUID DRIPPING DOWN THE FRAME RAIL ON THE DRIVERS SIDE IN FRONT OF REAR TIRE. *TR
AT FIRST I GOT A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON WITH CODE P0430, O2 SENSOR LOWER BANK 2, THEN BANK 1. REPLACED THOSE TWO WORK FOR A WEEK THEN RPM AND SPEEDOMETER GAUGE FLUCTUATE UP AND DOWN. I DROVE HOME FROM THE AIRPORT ONE NIGHT AND ALL GAUGE READING WENT ALL THE WAY UP. I WAS TRAVELING ON AN INTERSTATE WITH A SPEED LIMITED OF 55MPH AND THE READING IN MY CAR WAS OVER 120MPH. TOOK TO IN SHOP, SHOP RECOMMEND I NEED SPEEDOMETER SENSOR REPLACED. REPLACED THAT, NOW ALL THE INSTRUMENT GAUGE JUMP UP AND DOWN. SOMETIME ALL THE WAY FULL SOMETIME ALL THE WAY DOWN. FINALLY GOT TIRE OF TRYING TO FIX IT MYSELF AND TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND THEY FOUND OUT IT WAS A BAD DASH INSTRUMENT AND BAD CATYLETE-CONVETER. THANKS TO CHEVY IT COST ME HEADACHE, GUESSING TIME, GIVING FALSE READING AND MOST OF ALL THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO GET IT FIX RIGHT. *TR
I WAS TURNING INTO DRIVEWAY WHEN I HEARD A POP THAN SOME GRINDING SO I LISTENED AND IT WAS COMING FROM FRONT TIRE. I JACKED IT UP THE WHEEL WAS LOOSE AND WHEN U FREELY TURNED THE WHEEL U HEARD GRINDING FROM THE BEARINGS BEING NO GOOD. I THINK THE WHEEL HUB ASSEMBLY IS OUT I WAS LOOKING FOR A REPLACEMENT PART WHEN I NOTICED THERE WAS A RECALL FROM 2007NFOR THEM THE CAMPAIGN NUMBER IS 07E106000 I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IS THIS TRUE [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR
ON 8/30/14 I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD GOING ABOUT 25 MPH WHEN A CAR CAME OUT FROM A STREET ON THE LEFT SIDE AND PULLED IN FRONT OF ME WITHOUT LOOKING, I PRESSED DOWN ON THE BRAKES QUICK AND SWERVED TO THE RIGHT TO AVOID HITTING HIM, HE HAD NO IDEA AS I WAS SWERVING OUT OF THE WAY TO NOT HIT HIM, HE WAS MAKING HIS TURN, I GOT ON THE HORN AND HE JUST PULLED OVER TO THE RIGHT AND GAVE ME A WAVE AS TO SAY HE WAS SORRY. ANYWAY, WHEN I PRESSED DOWN ON THE BRAKE FAST, IT WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR, I HAD TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE, ALL THE BRAKE FLUID LEAKED OUT FROM THE DRIVER'S SIDE NEAR THE CHASSIS, THERE WAS NO STOPPING THIS TRUCK. I DON'T SEE HOW THEY CAN SAY YOU ARE STILL ABLE TO USE THE BRAKES, YOU CAN'T PUMP THEM. IT IS NOW SITTING AT THE MECHANICS GETTING FIXED, SO FAR HE TOLD ME IT WOULD BE $600-$800 LABOR, I HAVE NOT GOTTEN BACK THE TRUCK YET AS I WRITE THIS. THE BRAKE LINES WERE SO ROTTED, IT WAS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME, AND I ONLY BOUGHT THIS 9/17/13, THE TRUCK ORIGINALLY CAME FROM PENNSYLVANIA. *TR
GM TSB 06-06-019B GRADUAL COOLANT LOSS (JUNE 2007) MY VEHICLE IS SHOWING SIGNS OF COOLANT LOSS. SAMPLED OIL VIA CATERPILLAR, RESULTS SHOW COOLANT IN OIL. CHANGED OIL AND FOUND SLUDGE IN OIL FILTER. BOUGHT VEHICLE FROM A DEALER "AS IS-NO WARRANTY" . CANNOT BELIEVE A PROFESSIONAL SHOP "MISSED THIS" ON THEIR VEHICLE INSPECTION/PREP FOR RE-SALE. WILL BE TAKING TO DIFFERENT DEALER FOR COOLANT PRESSURE TEST 09.09.14 TO VERIFY WHAT I ALREADY KNOW. MY VEHICLE HAS THE CASTECH CYLINDER HEADS. THIS IS A REPAIR THAT I CANNOT PAY FOR OUT OF POCKET AT THIS TIME. I'M HOPING FOR OUT OF WARRANTY ASSISTANCE TO HELP W THIS REPAIR. FOUND THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS REGARDING THIS ISSUE ON-LINE AND IN GM FORUMS. SOMEONE WILL EVENTUALLY HAVE AN ENGINE SEIZE OR CATCH FIRE ON THEM. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD AS A RESULT THE BRAKES DID NOT RESPOND. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALER WHERE IT WAS TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 91,000.
I WAS TRAVELING DOWN THE ROAD AT 60 MPH WHEN THE DISPLAY SAID "REDUCED ENGINE POWER" AND MY VEHICLE DECREASED IN POWER. IT DIDN'T MATTER HOW MUCH I PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR THE CAR WOULD ONLY GO 10 MILES AN HOUR. I PULLED OVER, CHECKED UNDER THE HOOD, EVERYTHING LOOKED FINE. STARTED IT AGAIN, IT DROVE FINE FOR ABOUT 2 MILES THEN THE SAME MESSAGE WAS DISPLAYED. I TURNED AROUND AND HEADED HOME DRIVING 10 MILES AN HOUR. *TR
I HAD THE VEHICLE IN PARK, ON A HILL, AND WHEN I SHIFTED IT INTO DRIVE, FELT A POP IN THE PEDAL. THEN THE BRAKES WOULD NOT HOLD THE VEHICLE. I HAD A VERY DIFFICULT TIME STOPPING THE VEHICLE DUE TO THE LOSS OF BRAKE PRESSURE. THE BRAKES PEDAL WOULD JUST FALL TO THE FLOOR. MY HUSBAND CAME OUT AND FOUND ONE OF THE REAR BRAKE LINES WAS RUSTED AND LEAKING FLUID. THE BRAKE LINES HAVE VISIBLE RUST ON THE OUTSIDE OF THEM. *TR
AFTER REPLACING TEMPERATURE SENSOR ON ENGINE BY GARAGE, THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE CONTINUES TO ACT WITH HIGH READINGS & NOW IT HAS PEGGED TO MAXIMUM HIGH TEMP. THIS IS DISCONCERTING AND MY WIFE & I ARE VERY NERVOUS TO DRIVE IT IN NOT KNOWING IF IT IS A REAL ISSUE OF CONCERN. EVEN THOUGH WE ARE NOT ORIGINAL OWNERS, AND THAT THERE HAS BEEN RELATED ISSUES WITH SPEEDOMETER, TEMP GAUGE, SENSOR, AND MORE COVERED BY COMPANY, THEY WILL NOT DO SO NOW ACCORDING TO LOCAL CHEVY DEALERSHIP & ETHICALLY I THINK ONCE THE REPAIRS HAVE BEEN NOTED AND THEN SHOW UP SHOULD BE HONORED. I BELIEVE THAT THE COMPANY WOULD HAVE SET ASIDE THE PARTS AND MONEY TO INSTALL. VIDEO OF REPAIR LOOKS LIKE A SKILLED MECHANIC COULD RESET ORIGINAL MILES ON CURRENT BAD GAUGE SET TO REPLACEMENT AND POP IN WITHIN 15-30 MINUTES. COST FOR PANEL IS ABOUT $300 AND IF I SHIP IT OUT TO AN ONLINE REPAIR CENTER THEY'LL CHARGE ABOUT $90 FOR REPLACEMENT PART WITH UPGRADED PARTS FOR DURABILITY. AS A VETERAN WHO HAD TO RETIRE FROM A CIVILIAN JOB EARLY DUE TO MY DISABILITIES AND THE MONEY THESE CAR COMPANIES RECEIVED FROM BANK CRASHES STABILIZATION IN THE TIME OF OFFERED REPLACEMENT WOULDN'T I BE ELIGIBLE BASED ON THAT? *TR
EXHAUST MANIFOLD LEAK CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON BOLTS BROKEN ON EXHAUST MANIFOLD. *TR
COMPLETE FAILURE OF BRAKES WHILE DRIVING, COASTED TO STOP WITH ASSISTANCE OF PARKING BRAKE. UPON INSPECTION IT WAS FOUND THAT ALL BRAKE LINES ARE SEVERELY RUSTED TO A FAILURE POINT, THE ONE LINE THAT FAILED WAS FOR THE REAR BRAKES FROM THE BLOCK DEVICE UNDER THE DRIVERS SIDE INNER FRAME RAIL (ABS UNIT OR BOOSTER) FOR A VERY WELL KEPT FAMILY VEHICLE WITH LOW MILES AND NO SUBSTANTIAL RUST ANYWHERE ELSE BUT THE BRAKE LINES, AND THIS ONE AREA THAT GETS CONSTANT ROAD SPRAY DIRECTLY AT THE LINES AND BLOCK/BOOSTER/ABS ON THE INNER FRAME DRIVERS SIDE. THIS WAS A SHOCK TO FIND, AND NOW AFTER LOOKING ONLINE THAT NHTSA HAS THE LONGEST OPEN CASE WITH CHEVY FOR 99-02 AND SEEMS LIKE IT WILL SPREAD TO 07 SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE FOR PUBLIC SAFETY. THIS SUBURBAN WEIGHS LIKE 6000 POUNDS, A TANK, AND WILL CRUSH ANYTHING IN ITS WAY IF THE BRAKES DO NOT WORK. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL OTHER MAKES/MODELS OF CARS & TRUCKS AND THE ONLY TIME I HAVE EVER NEEDED TO REPLACE A BRAKE LINE WAS ON MY OLD 1984 DODGE RAM PICKUP I PLOW SNOW WITH ALL THE TIME AND IT WAS 25YRS OLD AT THAT TIME NOT 10YRS OLD LIKE THE CHEVY. WE NEED IMMEDIATE ACTION TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF ALL OF THE THOUSANDS WITH THIS SAME ISSUE ON CHEVY TRUCKS/SUV'S. PURCHASED NEW IN MANCHESTER CT FOR OVER $36,000 IN APRIL 2004.. I DO NOT HAVE THE $1000+ ON HAND TO HAVE THIS REPAIR COMPLETED AT THIS TIME WITH 2 CHILDREN IN COLLEGE AND 2 MORE SOON TO BE. *TR
DRIVING ON INTERSTATE ROAD AND THE VEHICLE CEASED RUNNING. PULLED OFF ROAD AND HAD TO BE TOWED BACK TO GARAGE. NO VEHICLE FUNCTION WORKED EXCEPT EMERGENCY FLASHERS. VEHICLE JUST "DIED" AND STOPPED OPERATING. *TR
THE MASTER CYLINDER AND BRAKE LINE CAUSED A COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE. ALL THE BRAKE LINES ARE SEVERELY RUSTED, COMPROMISED, AND ALL MUST BE REPLACED. FORTUNATELY THE FAILURE HAPPENED IN A RESTAURANT DRIVE THROUGH. MOMENTS BEFORE PULLING INTO THE DRIVE THROUGH, I WAS DRIVING MY DAUGHTER ON A BUSY ROADWAY WITH A 50 MPH SPEED LIMIT. I DO NOT FEEL BRAKE LINES SHOULD BE MADE OF MATERIALS THAT CAN CORRODE AND FAIL WITHOUT ANY WARNING WHATSOEVER. THE TRUCK IS VERY WELL MAINTAINED. WITH NON-CORROSIVE METALS AVAILABLE FOR BRAKE TUBING IT IS INEXCUSABLE FROM A SAFETY PERSPECTIVE. THE GOVERNMENT NEEDS TO ADDRESS THIS TO PREVENT CLEARLY FORESEEABLE INJURIES AND DEATHS. *TR
SPEEDOMETER DOES NOT WORK OR INDICATES WRONG SPEED. MOST INSTRUMENT GAUGES ARE NOT WORKING OR ARE INTERMITTENT IN THEIR OPERATION. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN 1500. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE STARTING THE IGNITION, A LOUD KNOCKING NOISE EMITTED FROM THE ENGINE. IN ADDITION, COOLANT WAS DISPENSED INTO THE RADIATOR RESERVOIR EVERY TWO DAYS WITHOUT COOLANT VISIBLE ON THE GROUND. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, WHO STATED THAT THE WATER PUMP WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AND THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
BRAKE LINE FAILED DUE TO RUST CORROSION. DEPRESSED BRAKE PEDAL IN THE DRIVEWAY AND BRAKE LINE BROKE BELOW DRIVER'S DOOR AND CAUSED BRAKES TO FAIL. *TR
BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. CAUSE WAS CORRODED BRAKE LINE THAT HAD LEAKED. *TR
TL-THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH. THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED. THE VEHICLE WAS MANEUVERED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD IN HER SUB DIVISION. THE CONTACT HAD THE VEHICLE PUSHED INTO HER DRIVEWAY. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN TAKEN TO AN DEALER OR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS OR REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN MADE OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE WAS 100,000.LJ
THE BRAKE LINE UNDER THE DRIVER'S DOOR RUPTURED AND CAUSED A COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE. ALL THE BRAKE LINES ARE SEVERELY RUSTED, COMPROMISED, AND ALL MUST BE REPLACED. FORTUNATELY THE FAILURE HAPPENED IN PARKING LOT AND MY SON WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR HOME WITHOUT HAVING AN ACCIDENT BUT THAT WAS MERELY FORTUITOUS. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO REASON THAT PERMANENT BRAKE LINES SHOULD FAIL. THE TRUCK IS USED VERY INFREQUENTLY AND IS WELL MAINTAINED. HAD I OR A MEMBER OF MY FAMILY BEEN DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE SOMEONE MOST LIKELY WOULD HAVE BEEN SEVERELY INJURED OR KILLED. I AM 60 YEARS OLD AND HAVE OWNED CARS SINCE I WAS 17 AND I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED A BRAKE HARD LINE RUPTURE. WITH THE NON-CORROSIVE METALS AVAILABLE FOR BRAKE TUBING IT IS INEXCUSABLE FROM A SAFETY PERSPECTIVE. THE GOVERNMENT NEEDS TO TAKE ACTION AGAINST GM TO PREVENT CLEARLY FORESEEABLE INJURIES AND DEATHS. *TR

I WAS VERY UPSET WITH THIS AND FEEL THIS SHOULD BE BROUGHT TO THE ATTENTION OF SOMEONE WHO WILL REALLY LOOK INTO THIS FOR THE SAFETY OF ALL.ALSO MY 1997 CHEVY CONVERSION VAN,AND MY HUSBANDS 2005 CHEVY SILVERADO THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO THOSE BRAKE LINES WHILE DRIVING BROKE OPEN DUE TO RUST,LOSING BRAKES WHILE DRIVING.VAN MILEAGE WAS 70000,AND SILVERADO MILEAGE WAS 75000.THIS IS SO DANGEROUS I URGE YOU TO PLEASE CHECK INTO IT BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED.I RECENTLY SAW ON THE NEWS THAT SUBURU RECALLED CARS IN NORTHERN STATES FOR RUSTED BRAKE LINES SAME AS THIS.GM SHOULD BE DOING THE SAME. *TR
SEVERE BRAKE LINE CORROSION UNDER VEHICLE. *TR
I LIVE NEAR FREDERICK, MARYLAND AND TODAY I DROVE MY 2004 SUBURBAN DOWN TO THE CUL DE SAC AT THE END OF OUR STREET GOING AROUND 20MPH, BUT WHEN I PRESSED THE BRAKES, I FELT THEM GO ALMOST TO THE FLOOR, SO I PUMPED/PRESSED THEM AGAIN TWICE AND EACH TIME THEY THEN WENT FULLY TO THE FLOOR BUT THE TRUCK WAS NOT STOPPING. I MANAGED TO PUT THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL AND PRESS THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO GET THE VEHICLE STOPPED WITH THE FRONT TIRES JUST 3 FEET FROM MY NEIGHBORS LAWN. I THEN GOT OUT AND LOOKED UNDER THE VEHICLE AND THERE WAS BRAKE FLUID EVERYWHERE ALONG WITH A TRAIL OF IT ABOUT 30-40 FEET UP THE STREET FROM WHERE I FIRST PRESSED THE BRAKES. I TOWED THE TRUCK BACK TO MY DRIVEWAY AND LOOKED UNDERNEATH AND CAN SEE THAT ALL OF THE STEEL BRAKE LINES ARE HEAVILY RUSTED ALONG THE FRAME BELOW THE DRIVERS DOOR AREA. I COULD SEE THAT ONE OF THE LINES CLEARLY RUPTURED AND SPRAYED BRAKE FLUID EVERYWHERE. I STARTED LOOKING ON THE INTERNET AND SEE THE SAME SYMPTOM/PROBLEMS ARE ALREADY LISTED AS UNDER INVESTIGATION FOR 1999-2003 CHEVY TRUCKS UNDER NHTSA ACTION NUMBER : PE10010. MINE IS A 2004 MODEL YEAR BUT IT MAY HAVE BEEN BUILT IN LATE 2003. IN ANY CASE, I WAS EXTREMELY LUCKY THAT IT HAPPENED IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD AT 20MPH AND NOT ON THE HIGHWAY OR WHILE TOWING. CLEARLY GM HAS A PROBLEM AND THESE TRUCKS THAT NEEDS TO BE RECALLED AS THIS PROBLEM COULD KILL PEOPLE VERY EASILY! *TR
I TURNED ON MY ENGINE WITH MY KIDS IN THE CAR AND PUT THE SUV IN REVERSE. THE CAR IMMEDIATELY STARTED TO MOVE EVEN WITH MY FRONT ON THE BRAKE WHILE PUTTING IT IN REVERSE AND I TRIED TO PRESS THE BRAKE AND IT WENT STRAIGHT DOWN TO THE FLOOR. I PUT THE CAR BACK IN PARK AND THIS STOPPED THE VEHICLE. HAD I BEEN ON THE ROAD I WOULD HAVE CRASHED. MY HUSBAND LOOKED NEAR THE DRIVER SIDE REAR TIRE AND SAW THE BRAKE LINE DRIPPING ALL THE BRAKE FLUID OUT ON THE DRIVEWAY ALL RUSTED. WHY WASN'T THIS MADE WITH STAINLESS STEEL? WHILE DRIVING AT ABOUT 45 THE TIRE WENT FLAT. THE TIRE HAD SEVERAL CRACKS AROUND THE SHOULDER AND APPEARS SEVERAL WERE GETTING READY TO CHUNK OFF. A COUPLE APPEAR TO GO ALL THE WAY THROUGH THE TIRE CAUSING THE AIR LOSS.
MY 16 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WAS BEHIND THE WHEEL; IN LINE AT DRIVE-THROUGH. THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND THE BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON IN THE DASH BOARD AS THE VEHICLE BEGAN DRIFTING FORWARD. THE MESSAGE CENTER IN THE DASH DISPLAYED "SERVICE BRAKE SYSTEM." LUCKILY SHE WAS ABLE TO MANEUVER INTO A PARKING SPACE WITHOUT INCIDENT. THE BRAKE LINES HAVE FAILED - RUSTED THROUGH. IT IS UNCONSCIONABLE TO PRODUCE A VEHICLE THAT SELLS FOR OVER $45,000.00 THAT WON'T EVEN LAST 10 YEARS...ESPECIALLY WHEN SUCH A FAILURE IS LIKELY TO HAVE CATASTOPHIC CONSEQUENCES. STARTED DRIVING AND WITHIN 5 MIN, I LOST ALL BRAKES. WAS ABLE TO GET TO A LOCAL SERVICE STATION WHERE THEY DISCOVERED THAT THE BRAKE LINES HAD RUSTED AND DRAINED NEARLY ALL FLUID. HAD LINES REPLACED WITH STAINLESS STEEL LINES FOR MEGA BUCKS. RUSTED LINES BURST AT ONE POINT, HOWEVER, RUST/CORROSION WAS PRESENT AT SEVERAL POINTS IN THE SYSTEM. DID NOT SEE ANY RECALL OR NOTICE TO THE DEFECTIVE OR SUBSTANDARD BRAKE LINES IN 2004 CHEVY SUBURBANS. OLD LINES APPEARED TO BE CHEAP POT METAL. I AM THE ONLY OWNER OF THIS VEHICLE AND HAVE DONE ALL REQUIRED MAINTENANCE. *TR

THE VEHICLE IS A 4WD SUBURBAN 1500. WITH 2 WD DRIVE SELECTED AND DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS FROM 5 MPH TO 60 MPH THE VEHICLE WILL GO INTO NEUTRAL. THIS HAS HAPPENED 7 OR 8 TIMES. EACH TIME WAS IN TRAFFIC WHICH REQUIRED ILLUMINATING EMERGENCY FLASHERS AND PULLING TO SIDE OF ROAD. EVERY TIME PRESENTED A SAFETY ISSUE AND WAS FORTUNATE IT DIDN'T CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. ON ONE OCCASION I HAD JUST PASSED A SEMI ON THE INTERSTATE AND HAD JUST PULLED BACK INTO TRUCKS LANE WHEN IT OCCURRED. DEALERSHIP COULD NOT DETECT A PROBLEM. THE GEAR SHIFT SELECTOR REMAINS IN "DRIVE", THE DASH SELECTOR REMAINS ILLUMINATED IN 2WD AND I GET NO MESSAGES ON INSTRUMENT PANEL MESSAGE CENTER. TO TROUBLESHOOT I SELECTED "AUTO 4 WD" ON DASH SELECTOR AND OPERATED FOR A WEEK WITH NO PROBLEM. I THEN SELECTED 2 WD AND THE PROBLEM REAPPEARED WITHIN 2 HOURS OF OPERATION. ONCE I STOPPED, I SELECTED 1,2,3 AND R ON GEAR SELECTOR WITH NO EFFECT. SELECTED NEUTRAL AND TURNED IGNITION OFF AND THEN RESTARTED WITH NO EFFECT (ON PREVIOUS OCCASION I HAD SELECTED PARK WITH VEHICLE RUNNING AND NOTICED A GEAR GRINDING NOISE SO DIDN'T WANT TO DO THAT AGAIN WITH ENGINE RUNNING). TURNED IGNITION OFF WITH GEAR SELECTOR IN NEUTRAL AND SELECTED AUTO 4 WD AND THEN RESTARTED ENGINE WHICH TOOK CARE OF PROBLEM. *TR
1ST COMPLAINT: AFTER PASSING A VEHICLE ON A HIGHWAY (THIS REQUIRED THE SUBURBAN TO GO INTO THE PASSING GEAR), THE SUBURBAN'S ELECTRICAL SYSTEM AND ENGINE AUTOMATICALLY SHUT DOWN RIGHT ON THE HIGHWAY. I WAS FORCED TO IMMEDIATELY PULL OVER IN ORDER TO AVOID BE HIT BY PASSING VEHICLE. AFTER WAITING APPROXIMATELY 5 MINUTES, THE SUBURBAN STARTED UP AGAIN. WE STARTED DRIVING AGAIN BUT AGAIN ONCE I TRIED TO ACCELERATE OR PASS ANOTHER VEHICLE THE SUBURBAN WOULD SHUT DOWN AGAIN. AUTO MECHANIC HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO IDENTIFY WHAT CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO DO THIS. VERY FRUSTRATING AND DANGEROUS IF THIS HAPPENS ON A BUSY HIGHWAY OR FREEWAY. 2ND COMPLAINT: CLUSTER PANEL WENT HAYWIRE. SPEEDOMETER STOPPED WORKING, OIL GAUGE NOT READING PROPERLY ETC. EVENTUALLY, THE ENTIRE CLUSTER PANEL SHUT DOWN. HAD TO REPLACE IT AT A COST OF ABOUT $500. 3RD COMPLAINT: DRIVERS SEAT FUNCTIONS AND HEATING MECHANISIM MALFUNCTIONED. THE DRIVERS HEATED SEAT STOPPED WORKING AND THE SEAT CONTROLS MALFUNCTIONED. THE SOME OF THE DRIVERS SEAT CONTROLS STOPPED WORKING OR ARE REVERSED. EXAMPLE; WHEN YOU PUSH THE LEVER TO MOVE THE SEAT FORWARD IT GOES BACKWARD AND VIS VERSA. THE DRIVERS SIDE HEATED SEAT STOPPED WORKING AND IT WILL CANCEL OUT THE PASSENGERS SIDE HEATED SEAT. EXAMPLE; IF THE PASSENGER SIDE HEATED SEAT IS SELECTED, IT WORKS BUT ONCE YOU SELECT THE DRIVERS SIDE HEATED SEAT IT WILL CANCEL OUT THE PASSENGER SIDE AND THE DRIVERS SIDE STILL DOESN'T WORK. AUTO MECHANIC CLAIMED THE DRIVERS SIDE HEATED SEAT ELEMENT WAS BAD. HAD IT REPLACED AT A COST OF $300 BUT STILL DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. THE ORIGINAL HEATED SEAT ELEMENT WAS NOT BAD EITHER. *TR
THE REAR WINDOW LIFT HINGE ATTACHED TO THE GLASS TO THE TAILGATE IS DEFECTIVE. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS HINGE ONLINE, I LOCATED SEVERAL WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS COULD CAUSE SEVERAL PROBLEMS IF THE GLASS WERE TO SEPARATE DURING TRAVEL AND SHOULD BE A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN FOR CHEVROLET. THE ESTIMATED REPAIR COST IS $1,300.00 FOR A DEFECTIVE PART THAT WILL JUST RE-OCCUR WITH IN A FEW YEARS AS SOME OF THE COMPLAINANTS OBSERVED ONLINE BY NEW OWNERS OF 2 YEARS. THIS PART IS DEFECTIVE AND NOT DUE TO NORMAL WEAR AND TARE. *TR

THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 05V043000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC) BUT WAS ADVISED BY THE MANUFACTURER THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE BRAKES ON MY 2004 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN 2500 FAILED DURING AN ATTEMPTED STOP. THE PEDAL TRAVELED ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. SUBSEQUENT TESTING OF THE BRAKES REVEALED THAT THERE WAS AT LEAST ONE BRAKE FLUID LEAK FROM LINES LEAVING THE MASTER CYLINDER WHICH WAS SPRAYING BRAKE FLUID ONTO THE ENGINE CAUSING SMOKING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR AND I WAS TOLD THAT THE BRAKE LINES HAD CORRODED THROUGH CAUSING LOSS OF BRAKE FLUID AND LOSS OF BRAKING CAPABILITY. IT WAS STATED BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT THIS CORROSION WAS DUE TO ROAD CONDITIONS WHERE SALT IS USED ON THE ROADS FOR WINTER DRIVING. THE VEHICLE HAD APPROXIMATELY 42,000 MILES ON IT WHEN THE BRAKE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE COST OF THE REPAIR WAS APPROXIMATELY $2,500. THE VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN USED FOR SNOW PLOWING OR SPREADING ROAD SALT. *TR
2 SEPARATE INCIDENTS OF BRAKE FAILURE WITH CORRODED BRAKE LINES OF 2004 CHEVY SUBURBAN WITH UNDER 100K MILES. FIRST WAS IN JANUARY 2013, COMPLETE LOSE OF BRAKES WHILE DRIVING IN PARKING LOT. TAKEN TO REPAIR SHOP AND NEEDED COMPLETE REPLACEMENT OF CORRODED FRONT BRAKE LINES, CALIPERS ETC. AT THE TIME, WE HAD THE REAR BRAKE LINES INSPECTED AND REPAIR SHOP STATED THEY SEAMED OK. SECOND INCIDENT HAPPENED ON AUGUST 24, 2013. TRAVELING ON I-495 IN MASSACHUSETTS (WHILE PULLING A BOAT TRAILER) AND APPLIED BRAKES TO SLOW FOR TRAFFIC AHEAD AND BRAKE PEDAL IMMEDIATELY WENT SOFT AND ALMOST COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR AND THEN BRAKE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. I HAD TO SWERVE INTO BREAKDOWN LANE TO AVOID SLOWED TRAFFIC AHEAD AS ONLY FRONT BRAKES WERE WORKING.(ALONG WITH TRAILER BRAKES) AND CAR COULD NOT SLOW ENOUGH TO STOP. AFTER NEARLY CASING A MAJOR ACCIDENT, WAS ABLE TO GET OFF THE EXIT AND DRIVE TO NEAREST SEARS REPAIR SHOP (1/4 MILE DOWN THE ROAD). AFTER BRAKE INSPECTION, COMPLETELY CORRODED BACK BRAKE LINES AND CALIPERS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *TR

WHILE DRIVING IN AN URBAN AREA I NOTICED THAT MY BRAKE PEDAL WAS GOING DOWN MORE THAN USUAL AND WENT DOWN EVEN MORE AS I WAITED FOR THE TRAFFIC SIGNAL TO CHANGE. WHEN I GOT HOME I CHECKED THE BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR AND FOUND THE LEVEL ABOUT AN INCH LOWER THAN NORMAL. I LOOKED UNDER THE VEHICLE AND SAW A SMALL POOL OF BRAKE FLUID FORMING ON THE DRIVE UNDER THE DRIVERS SEAT. FURTHER SEARCH SHOWED THAT A BRAKE LINE WAS LEAKING AND ALL THE LINES WERE BADLY CORRODED. I CALLED A LOCAL CHEVY DEALER AND CAREFULLY DROVE THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AFTER ADDING FLUID TO THE RESERVOIR. THE DEALER CONFIRMED MY FINDING AND INDICATED THAT ALL THE LINES WERE SO BADLY RUSTED THAT THEY WOULD PROBABLY FAIL SOON. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS ON THE LIFT THEY ALLOWED ME TO SEE THE LINES IN THEIR CURRENT CONDITION. THE LABOR TO REPLACE THE LINES WAS $1,200. *TR

HEARD RATTLE AND A WIND NOISE AS IF A DOOR OR WINDOW WAS PARTIALLY OPEN. REAR LIFTGATE GLASS PASSENGER SIDE HINGE PARTIALLY SEPARATED FROM WINDOW GLASS, ALLOWING THE STRUT WHICH LIFTS THE WINDOW UP NORMALLY TO PUSH THE TOP EDGE OF THE WINDOW UP ABOUT AN INCH. WHAT MAKES THIS DANGEROUS IS THAT IF AT HIGHWAY SPEED, THE WIND COULD HAVE EASILY CAUGHT THE LIFTED GLASS EDGE AND STRESS IT ENOUGH TO SHATTER AND INJURE SOMEONE OR DAMAGE A FOLLOWING VEHICLE. *TR
WHILE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY AT IDLE I NOTED EXCESSIVE BRAKE PEDAL TRAVEL AFTER PLACING MY RIGHT FOOT ON THE BRAKE. THE BRAKE PEDAL TRAVELED ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR BOARD AND WAS VERY SLOW IN RETURN. I SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF AND VISUALLY CHECKED THE MASTER CYLINDER AND CONNECTIONS. I NOTED THE MASTER CYLINDER BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR WAS NOT COMPLETELY AT THE FULL MARK. I CONTINUED TO OBSERVE THE HYDRAULIC CONNECTIONS AND FOUND NO ACTIVE LEAK AND NO FLUID ON THE GROUND BENEATH THE VEHICLE. I DROVE THE VEHICLE TO A REPAIR SHOP IN TOWN (OUT OF STATE VISIT) ADVISING THE SHOP OWNER OF THE PROBLEM INVOLVING BRAKE TRAVEL. A MECHANIC DETERMINED THE BRAKE LINES ON MY VEHICLE WERE ROUTED ALONG THE VEHICLE FRAME, MADE OF STEEL, AND UNPROTECTED RESULTING IN CORROSION, HOLES, AND ACTIVE LEAKS. TWO OF THE LINES WERE REPAIRED AND NOW THE REMAINING TWO LINES REQUIRE REPAIR. I OBSERVED AND NOTED CORROSION OF THE BRAKE LINE DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM ALONG THE VEHICLE FRAME RUNNING TO THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE AND CROSSING OVER THE RIGHT SIDE. I BELIEVE THE BRAKE LINE CORRODED AND FAILED IMMEDIATELY BEHIND THE DRIVER'S SIDE LOCATED IMMEDIATELY NEXT TO THE VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION TAG. THIS LOCATION WAS OBSCURED FROM VIEW BECAUSE A PLASTIC WIRING HARNESS IS ROUTED BETWEEN THE BRAKE LINES AND EXTERIOR OF THE FRAME. I BELIEVE THE PLACEMENT OF THE PLASTIC CONDUIT CONCEALS VISION / INSPECTION OF CORRODING BRAKE LINES. I BELIEVE UNPROTECTED STEEL BRAKE LINES ARE SUBJECT TO PHYSICAL ABRASION AND MOISTURE BETWEEN THE UNPROTECTED BRAKE LINE AND THE VEHICLE FRAME RESULTING IN BRAKE LINE FATIGUE AND WATER BASED CORROSION RESULTING IN HOLES AND FAILURE OF THE HYDRAULIC BRAKE SYSTEM. I NEVER OBSERVED THE OPERATION OF THE "BRAKE" ICON LOCATED ON THE VEHICLE MESSAGE PANEL. *TR

AT FIRST THIS HAPPENED PERIODICALLY UPON STARTING UP THE VEHICLE IT WOULD NOT COME ON BUT WOULD COME OWN A FEW MINUTES AFTER DRIVING. THEN IT STARTED NOT COMING ON AT ALL. *TR
WE WERE DRIVING SOUTHBOUND ON US HWY 131 JUST NORTH OF KALAMAZOO, MI. OUR WILDERNESS AT P255/70R16 SHREDDED AND ALMOST CAUSED US TO ROLL OVER. THE DAMAGE DONE TO THE VEHICLE WAS APPROXIMATELY $2400 PLUS $197 FOR TWO TIRES. WE BOUGHT SUBURBAN FROM A FORD DEALER IN WI IN DECEMBER 2011. THE TIRES WERE ON THE VEHICLE. WE FOUND OUT THAT THEY WERE RECALLED AND ALSO WERE 14 YEARS OLD. WE WENT TO THE FORD DEALER TO SEE ABOUT BEING REIMBURSED FOR THE TWO TIRES THAT THEY KNOWINGLY PUT ON THE SUBURBAN. THEY ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THEY PUT THE TIRES ON BUT CLAIMED IT WASN'T THEIR FAULT AND THEY DIDN'T HAVE TO KNOW ALL THE TIRES THAT HAVE BEEN RECALLED. WE THEN FILED A COMPLAINT WITH FIRESTONE. NINE MONTHS AFTER WE FILED THE COMPLAINT, SENT THE EVIDENCE, ALL PAPERWORK, THE TIRE WITH SHREDDED PIECES, AND COST OF REPAIRS, WE RECEIVED A NOTE THAT FIRESTONE WAS NOT LIABLE, THAT THE TIRE WAS 14 YEARS OLD, AND THAT THEY WOULD ONLY PAY FOR ONE TIRE. THEY SAID THAT THE TIRE WAS NOT PROPERLY INFLATED. WE TOOK THE AIR OUT WHEN IT WAS SENT BECAUSE UPS WOULDN'T TAKE IT WITH AIR IN IT. WE CURRENTLY HAVE THE SECOND TIRE. IT HAS EXCELLENT TREAD. THERE IS NO WAY OF KNOWING FROM LOOKING AT IT THAT IT IS A HAZARD. SHOULDN'T A TIRE COMPANY THAT RECALLED TIRES HAVE TO REPLACE THEM EVEN IF THEY ARE OLD? WE HAVE PICTURES TO SHOW THAT THE TIRE WENT COMPLETELY BALD AND NEVER WENT FLAT. *TR
