ERRATIC TO NONE SPEEDOMETER OPERATION, NO REPAIRS MADE AS OF NOW, RESEARCHING PROBLEM, FOUND TO BE PRETTY WIDE SPREAD ON GM SUV'S AND TRUCKS. *TR
I WOULD LIKE TO RAISE A COMPLAINT REGARDING THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER ON MY 2004 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN. THE SPEEDOMETER READING HAS BECOME ERRATIC AND NEVER REPORTS THE PROPER SPEED. AT TIMES IT MAY BE 0, AT OTHERS IT MAY BE 120 MPH, AND AT OTHER TIMES JUST ALL OVER THE PLACE. THIS HAS BECOME A REAL SAFETY ISSUE WHEN DRIVING ALONE ON A ROAD OR IN VISIBLY IMPAIRED CONDITIONS SINCE YOU JUST HAVE NO REFERENCE TO KNOW HOW FAST YOU ARE TRAVELING. AFTER CONDUCTING SEARCHES ON MY OWN, THIS IS APPARENTLY A RAMPANT PROBLEM DURING THESE YEAR'S GM MODELS. THE DEALER WANTS APPROXIMATELY $500 TO FIX IT AND THIS JUST SEEMS VERY UNFAIR FOR A $40,000 3 YEAR OLD VEHICLE. SINCE THIS APPEARS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM, I WOULD LIKE TO URGE CHEVROLET TO STEP UP AND RECALL VEHICLES FOR THIS ISSUE SO THAT WE CAN HAVE IT FIXED. THANK YOU, DEBRA TROIANO. *NM
I WAS DRIVING ON AN ICY ROAD OUTSIDE OF CHICAGO WHEN I ALMOST LOST CONTROL OF MY VEHICLE DUE TO SPEED CREEP THIS WAS CAUSED BY THE SPEEDOMETER OF THE VEHICLE FAILING AND STICKING AT 37 MPH. I ESTIMATE THAT WHEN I SKIDDED OUT THAT I WAS MOST LIKELY GOING OVER 50 MPH. I'VE HAD MULTIPLE PROBLEMS WHERE THE SPEEDOMETER HAS STUCK AFTERWARD, BUT WAS ABLE TO AVOID SIMILAR INCIDENCES BECAUSE I REALIZED THEIR COULD BE A PROBLEM. I AM DRIVING A 2004 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN. THIS IS NOT A SAFE SITUATION. IF THERE WERE OTHER TRAFFIC, STRUCTURES, OR PEDESTRIANS AROUND PROPERTY MAY HAVE BEEN DAMAGED AND PEOPLE MAY HAVE BEEN INJURED OR KILLED. I HAVE A 2004 CHEVY SUBURBAN LT AND THE SPEEDOMETER IS STUCK AND RUNS WILDLY ON OCCASION. RARELY FUNCTIONS PROPERLY. THE DEALERSHIP SAYS IT WILL COST $500+ TO REPLACE AND IS NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY. VEHICLE HAD 51K MILES WHEN THE PROBLEM STARTED. I THINK THIS IS A DEFECT BUILT INTO THE CAR AND I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR REPLACEMENT! *JB
MY SPEEDOMETER WENT FROM 55 TO 120 IN A MATTER OF SECONDS. THEN IF YOU GIVE IT A COUPLE OF DAYS IT WOULD BE RIGHT AGAIN. THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN I AM DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE AND IT WOULD GO TO 120 AGAIN. THE DEALERSHIP HOOKED IT UP TO THE COMPUTER AND THEY SAID THEY "REBOOTED THE CLUSTER" AND IT'S WORKING FOR NOW. THEY SAID A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS HAPPEN AND IT MAY ONLY BE A TEMPORARY FIX. SO WHAT IF I HAVE MY CRUISE CONTROL SET AT 65 AND THEN MY SPEEDOMETER GOES TO 120? I SEE AN INSTANT ACCIDENT HAPPENING! CHEVROLET SHOULD HAVE A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE. *JB
I HAD A FLAT TIRE ON A 2004 CHEVY SUBURBAN. AFTER ABOUT 1 HOUR OF TRYING, I WAS NOT ABLE TO RELEASE THE SPARE TIRE HOIST ON THE VEHICLE. SINCE I COULD NOT ACCESS THE SPARE TIRE, I HAD TO CALL FOR A TOW TRUCK. THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER ALSO COULD NOT GET THE SPARE TIRE TO RELEASE FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER HAD TO REPLACE THE "BAD" HOIST. THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME I TRIED TO USE THE SPARE HOIST SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED. THE DEALER SAID THAT THIS IS A COMMON FAILURE AND THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER AGREED. THE DEALER ALSO SAID IT WAS MY FAULT FOR ABUSING THE HOIST (DRIVING ON DIRT ROADS) AND NOT PROPERLY SERVICING THE HOIST. NO WHERE IN THE OWNER'S MANUAL DOES IT TALK ABOUT SPARE TIRE HOIST MAINTENANCE. THE TOTAL COST FOR A FLAT TIRE WAS OVER $400 AND 7 HOURS OF MY TIME. *JB
THE SLIDE ASSEMBLY UNDER THE 2ND SEAT, DOES NOT WORK, SO THAT PASSENGERS CANNOT EASILY CLIMB INTO THE BACK SEAT. *TR
FAULTY SPEEDOMETER. WHILE IDLING, THE SPEEDOMETER WOULD BEGIN AT APPROX 80 MPG AND GO HIGHER AS I STARTED TO DRIVE (30 MPH READ 110 MPH). THEN IT WOULD GRADUALLY GO DOWN EACH TIME THE VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP. IT WOULD TAKE 5 - 10 STOPS BEFORE IT WOULD FINALLY GO TO ZERO. THIS OCCURRED OVER A COUPLE OF MONTHS AND FINALLY THE SPEEDOMETER COMPLETELY QUIT WORKING. *JB

SPEEDOMETER REGISTER GREATLY INCORRECT SPEED (OFF BY 20 TO 30 MPH). *TR
IT IS VERY DANGEROUS TO FILL THE GAS TANK. EVEN WITH THE RUBBER BOOT SEALED AGAINST THE NECK, GASOLINE SPLASHES OUT ALL OVER THE GROUND. NO FIRE YET. THIS HAPPENS AFTER ONLY A FEW GALLONS IN PUT INTO A 31-GALLON TANK CONTAINING 8-10 GALLONS. IT IS VERY DIFFICULT AND TIME CONSUMING TO FILL THIS TANK. *JB
STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE SPEEDOMETER READING INCORRECT SPEED AT ABOUT 40K MILES. CURRENTLY HAVE 55K MILES ON MY 2004 SUBURBAN. THE SPEEDOMETER OFTEN READS OVER 100 MPH SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY. IT SEEMS TO OCCUR AFTER 30+ MINUTES OF CONTINUED DRIVING. ADDITIONALLY, THE TACHOMETER BECOMES ERRATIC AND SOMETIMES JUST DROPS TO 0 WHILE DRIVING. *NM
ORIGINAL DATE WAS IN 2005 WHEN I COMPLAINED REGARDING THE CLICKING NOISE WHEN STEERING WHEEL IS BEING TURNED TO THE LEFT. SERVICE PERSONNEL STATED THEY HAD LUBRICATED THE STEERING WHEEL BOLTS. WELL AFTER RECEIVING THE VEHICLE BACK ON 12/01/06 FOR 30K MILE INSPECTION THE CLICKING NOISE IS NOW BACK, BUT WORSE WHEN REVERSING NOT ONLY HAS THE CLICKING NOISE RETURNED, BUT WHEN REVERSING HAVING MY STEERING WHEEL TURN LEFT I CAN FEEL THE TIRES SLIDING. AFTER TALKING TO SAME PERSONNEL IN SERVICING SHE IS BEING TOLD NOT TO LUBRICATE OR LOOSEN THE BOLTS OF THE STEERING WHEEL SINCE IT WILL NOT IMPROVE THE SITUATION. ACCORDING TO THE SERVICE PERSONNEL SHE JUST RECEIVED (01/04/06) A NOTICE STATING THAT CHEVROLET IS WORKING ON THE PROBLEM UNFORTUNATELY THEY (CHEVROLET/GMAC) WILL GO BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD TO MAKE A PART THAT WILL FIX THIS PROBLEM. I EXPLAINED TO VERONICA OF MY FEARS OF DRIVING THE VEHICLE, BUT SHE STATES THAT THE VEHICLE IS SAFE. I DID NOTIFY THE SERVICE PERSONNEL AS WELL AS THE OWNER OF THE DEALERSHIP (WHERE THE WORK IS BEING DONE AND WAS PURCHASED FROM) THAT MY FEAR OF HAVING TO MAKE AN IMMEDIATE LEFT TURN OR REVERSING HAVING THE STEERING WHEEL TURNED LEFT WHAT IS THE GUARANTEE THAT THE TIRES WILL NOT SLIDE MAYBE HITTING SOMETHING FROM BEHIND. BOTH SERVICE PERSONNEL AND THE OWNER OF THE DEALERSHIP STATES THAT CHEVROLET WOULD NOT SAY IT WAS SAFE FOR SOMEONE TO DRIVE WHEN IN FACT IT ISN'T. NOTHING CAN BE DONE REGARDING THIS ISSUE SINCE THERE IS NO PART ON THE MARKET TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. MY COMPLAINT IS BASICALLY I FEEL THAT SINCE THERE ISN'T A PART CURRENTLY MADE TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM MAKING A LEFT TURN OR REVERSING THAT THIS VEHICLE IS UNSAFE FOR ME AND MY FIVE CHILDREN. *NM
SPEEDOMETER ON 2004 CHEVY SUBURBAN WORKS SPORADICALLY SINCE NOV. 2006. COST TO REPLACE WILL BE APPROX. $500. *JB
SPEEDOMETER IS DEFECTIVE. REGISTERS BETWEEN 35 AND 120 MPH WHEN CAR IS STOPPED. *NM
SPEEDOMETER BECAME ERRATIC. JUMPING TO 120 MPH WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH. SHOWING 70 MPH WHILE STANDING STILL. I HAVE VIDEOS OF THIS PHENOMENON. DEALER STATED IT IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE, HAD TO PULL INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FROM DASH AND ULTIMATELY REPLACE IT AT A COST OF $595. *JB
LAST NIGHT THE SPEEDOMETER STARTED TICKING LOUDLY AND MOVING WITH SUDDEN JERKING MOVEMENTS. IT THEN SHOWED I WAS GOING 85 MPH WHEN I WAS ACTUALLY GOING LESS THAN 45. THIS GOT PROGRESSIVELY WORSE AS I CONTINUED, TO THE POINT IT SHOWED I WAS GOING OVER 120 MPH WHEN STOPPED. NOW IT IS ALL THE WAY TO FAR RIGHT SIDE AND IS STUCK. IT WILL NOT RESET WHEN THE VEHICLE IS TURNED OFF. *NM
AT 35000 MILES THE SPEEDOMETER WOULD MAKE A TICKING NOISE AND START MOVING WITH A NOTCHY MOTION. WHEN DRIVING IT COULD READ 40-75 MPH WHILE DOING LESS THAN 10 MPH. AT 60+ MPH IT COULD READ 100+ MPH. AFTER MULTIPLE RESTARTS THE SPEEDOMETER WOULD RETURN TO 0. THE PROBLEM SEEMED LIKE IT WOULD WORSEN WHEN THE TEMPERATURE WAS COLDER, BUT IT COULD BE COINSIDENCE. TOOK THE VEHICLE INTO THE CHEVROLET DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED AS HAVING A FAULTY GUAGE CLUSTER AND REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. WHILE IN THE DEALER THERE WERE 2 OTHER PEOPLE WITH SIMILAR TRUCKS HAVING THE SAME THING REPLACED. NOW I SEE ONLINE THAT THIS IS COMMON WITH NEARLY EVERY SUBURBAN AND CHEVROLET/GMC TRUCK IN MODEL YEARS 2004-2005. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALLED PART AND COULD BE A MAKE FOR A COSTLY/DANGEROUS DRIVE FOR SOMEONE.
I HAVE A 2004 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN WITH APPROX. 60,000 MILES. THE SPEEDOMETER WORKS INTERMITTENTLY. SOMETIMES IT SEEMS TO REGISTER AND OTHER TIMES NOT AT ALL. WHEN "WORKING", THE SPEEDOMETER STEPS OR JAGGEDLY MOVES. I HAVE NO CONFIDENCE THAT EVEN IF IT IS "WORKING" IT IS NOT ACCURATE. I HAVE SEARCHED THE WEB AND THERE SEEMS TO BE A HIGH NUMBER OF SIMILAR CASES. ADDITIONALLY, I WAS IN A FRIEND'S SUBURBAN LAST WEEKEND AND HE, FOR THE FIRST TIME, HAD THE SAME THING HAPPEN. HE HAD APPROX. THE SAME MILEAGE (60,000 MILES). VERY DANGEROUS NOT TO KNOW HOW FAST YOU ARE GOING AT ANY GIVEN TIME. *NM
OUR SPEEDOMETER QUIT WORKING AND WOULD EITHER SHO US GOING MUCH SLOWER OR MUCH FASTER THAN WE REALLY WERE. WE WERE HOPING THAT IT WAS JUST A SENSOR, BUT IT WAS THE WIRING IN THE DASH, THEY REQUIRED THAT WE SEND IN THE WHOLE FRONT MODULE AND THEY SENT US A NEW ONE WITH OUR OLD ODOMETER MILES ALREADY SET. THEY ALSO REQUIRED THAT WE SEND IN THE OLD ONE. OUR MECHANIC TOLD US THAT THEY HAD JUST HAD TO REPLACE A PICKUPS SPEEDOMETER AS WELL. SAME YEAR, AND SIMILAR MODEL. *NM
2004 CHEVY SUBURBAN SPEEDOMETER GOES CRAZY,SOMETIMES SET AT 120 MPH WHILE SETTING STILL. WHILE DRIVING I NEVER KNOW THE SPEED I'M GOING. ONE DAY MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE SPEEDOMETER JUST KEPT CLIMBING TO 120 MPH , THAT IS WHEN IT STARTED. SOMETIMES THE SPEEDOMETER GOES DOWN TO 0 MPH THEN WHILE DRIVING SAY 30 MPH I GUESS IT MAY TAKE YOU TO 60 MPH, 80 MPH WHILE AT THE SAME RPM. NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE ,IT HAS 44000 MILES THEREFORE MY WARRANTY IS OUT I HAVE TO SEE IF THE EXT WARRANTY I GOT COVERS THIS, ALSO I HAVE BEEN CHECKING THE INTERNET IF ANYONE HAD SIMILAR PROBLEMS AND I HAVE FOUND NUMEROUS PEOPLE ON TOPIX.NET . SPEEDOMETER AND OIL PRESSURE STARTING DISPLAYING ERRATIC READING ANY WHERE FROM 0-120+ AND OIL PSI OF 0 TO PEGGING GAGE. AFTER RESEARCH OF DEALERS AND REPAIR FACILITIES DATA CONFIRMED THIS IS A KNOW DEFECT AND CAUSED BY DEFECTIVE STEPPER MOTORS. SETTING CRUISE CONTROL HAMPER THIS DEFECT BY NOT KNOWING WHAT ACTUAL SPEED IS WHEN ENGAGING CRUISE CONTROL. ALSO HAVE SECOND VEHICLE THAT JUST STARTED WITH SAME ISSUES TODAY 12-22-06. 2004 GMC YUKON XL
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED COMPLETELY. THE VEHICLE WAS PUT IN PARK, AND WAS ABLE TO BE RESTARTED. IT WAS TAKEN TO A SERVICE DEALER, HOWEVER THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE TRAVELING 5 MPH, THE POWER STEERING FAILED, THEN BOTH FEET WERE USED TO STOP THE VEHICLE. IT WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP WHO DETERMINED THE POWER STEERING AND BRAKE BOOSTER SYSTEM FAILED AND BOTH COMPONENTS WERE REPLACED.
TACHOMETER/SPEEDOMETER FAILED ON 2004 CHEVORLET SUBURBAN. PROVIDED UNSAFE DRIVING CONDITIONS, ESPECIALLY DURING BAD WEATHER CONDITIONS WHERE VEHICLE SPEED WAS AT AN ALL TIME IMPORTANCE. SMALL CHILDREN IN THE VEHICLE CAUSED THE DRIVER TO BE MORE ANXIOUS AT THE WHEEL, NOT KNOWING EXACTLY HOW FAST THE VEHICLE WAS GOING ON THE HIGHWAY OR RESIDENTIAL STREET TRAFFIC.*AK

SPEEDOMETER DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY ON 2004 CHEVY Z71 TAHOE. IT IS EITHER PEGGED AT 120 MPH, READS TOO HIGH , OR READS TOO LOW. *JB
04 SUBURBAN SPEEDOMETER QUIT WORKING. SPEEDOMETER SAID 120 MPH WHEN SITTING STILL. THEN GOT STUCK ND WOULD DROP SLOWLY. NOW IT DOES NOT WORK AT ALL. IT SITS ON ZERO. *JB
VALVE STEM OF TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR BROKE CAUSING THE LEFT, REAR TIRE TO GO FLAT. IT BROKE WHILE I WAS ATTEMPTING TO REMOVE THE VALVE STEM CAP SO THAT I COULD CHECK MY TIRE PRESURE. IF THE FAILURE WOULD HAVE OCCURED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION, IT MAY HAVE LED TO AN ACCIDENT. *JB
2004 CHEVY SUBURBAN- SPEEDOMETER AND OIL PSI GAUGES READ ERRATIC. SPEEDOMETER CAN READ ZERO ONE MINUTE AND 120 ANOTHER, VERY ERRATIC. OIL PRESSURE GAGE READS 0-80 AT ANY TIME. MANY DOCUMENTED CASES BUT NO RECALL ON DEFECTIVE STEPPER MOTORS. INTERNET SHOWS MANY REPAIRS BEING MADE ON THESES CLUSTERS REPLACING DEFECTIVE STEPPER MOTORS. DEALER REPAIR TO REPLACE DEFECTIVE CLUSTER $400 *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH, THE POWER ASSIST STEERING AND THE POWER ASSIST BRAKES FAILED SIMULTANEOUSLY, CAUSING A LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A SERVICE DEALER WHO DETERMINED THE POWER STEERING PUMP AND BOOSTER HAD FAILED, ALONG WITH THE BOOSTER THAT LED TO THE POWER ASSIST BRAKE SYSTEM.
OWNER OF A 2004 CHEVY TAHOE Z71 4X4 LAT AUGUST 2006 MY VEHICLE WILL NOT START AFTER AN OVERNIGHT STAY. SINCE PURCHASING THE VEHICLE IN MAY OF 2004, I HAD TO REPLACE THE SPEEDOMETER. AFTER TOWING MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, 5 TIMES I WAS TOLD THAT I HAD A BAD INTAKE MANIFOLD AND IT WAS CAUSING MY VEHICLE TO NOT START. THEY REPLACED IT. A FEW WEEKS LATER. ABOUT A MONTH LATER MY VEHICLE DID NOT START. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER, THEY CLAIMED THAT THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG. 3 WEEKS LATER THE PROBLEM EMERGED AGAIN, THIS TIME I WAS TOLD THAT MY BATTERY WAS BAD, THEY REPLACED IT. NOW THIS WEEKEND OF MARCH 10, THE SAME PROBLEM. MY VEHICLE IS DEAD AND WILL NOT START. I AM VERY ANAL ABOUT TAKING MY VEHICLE FOR REGULAR CHECKUPS. WHY IS THAT THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE BUT THE DEALER CANNOT FIND OR FIX IT. I CANNOT RELY ON Y VEHICLE, I MAY GO TO WORK OR TO STORE ETC. EXPECT TO GET IN MY VEHICLE TO COME HOME OR EVEN ON VACATION. THE POINT IS THAT I DON'T KNOW WHEN IT IS GOING TO START OR HALT ON ME. *JB
I OWN A 2004 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN 1500 WHICH I BOUGHT USED IN 2006. SINCE THE DAY I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE THE BACK DOORS WILL NOT AUTOMATICALLY UNLOCK EITHER WITH DECREASED SPEED OR WITH THE HAND HELD REMOTE. YOU ACTUALLY HAVE TO REACH BACK AND UNLOCK THE DOORS WITH YOUR HAND. NOW, IN THE LAST FEW MONTHS, THE REMOTE STILL WORKS BUT IT IS NOT UNLOCKING ANY OF THE DOORS AND YOU MUST USE THE KEY TO UNLOCK DRIVERS DOOR. I WAS TOLD THERE ARE MOTORS IN EACH DOOR FOR THE LOCKS AND THAT REPLACING THEM ARE EXPENSIVE, SO I'M WONDERING IF THERE HAVE BEEN ANY KIND OF RECALLS FOR THIS PROBLEM. *TR
ON MY 2004 CHEVY SUBURBAN THE HOUSING UNIT FOR THE SPARE TIRE WILL NOT RELEASE THE SPARE TIRE TO COME DOWN, SO YOU CAN FIX A FLAT. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE IF YOU CAN'T GET THE SPARE TIRE DOWN, YOU CAN'T CHANGE THE FLAT--& YOU WILL BE STUCK ON THE HIGHWAY WITH CHILDREN--WE HAD NEVER USED THE SPARE TIRE BEFORE--BUT WHEN WE NEEDED IT, IT WAS INOPERABLE. *NM
2004 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN WINDOW MOTOR REPLACEMENT**CC THE RIGHT POWER WINDOW WAS SLOW GOING UP. THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD A MOTOR AND REGULATOR WAS NEEDED. THE FRONT TIRES WERE SEVERELY WORN ON THE INSIDE. AN ALIGNMENT WAS PERFORMED AND THE TIRES WERE ROTATED. *JB
THE BRIDGESTONE DUELER H/T TIRES HAVE BEEN KNOWN TO HAVE WEAR (VIBRATION) ISSUES, DUE TO THE TIRES BEING A SOFTER TIRE, ACCORDING TO MANY CHEVROLET AND GMC SERVICE MANAGERS THAT I HAVE CALLED. I RECEIVED TWO TIRES, BALANCING/ROTATION FREE, BUT I HAD TO BUY TWO AS WELL. I FEEL SINCE GM DEALERSHIPS KNOW ABOUT THIS ISSUE, THEY SHOULD SEND OUT A RECALL. I HAVE HAD MY TIRES BALANCED AND ROTATED MANY TIMES (ABOUT EVERY 3,000 MILES), BUT THE OWNERS MANUAL STATES EVERY 5000 - 8000 MILES. EVEN-THOUGH THERE IS A PROBLEM, THEY WOULDN'T PAY DUE TO MY VEHICLE HAD TOO MANY MILES (35,600) ON IT, BUT WHAT THEY WON'T ADMIT IS THAT FACT THAT I'VE HAD TO PAY EXTRA MONEY FOR ADDITIONAL BALANCE AND ROTATIONS. IF THERE IS A KNOWN ISSUE, THERE SHOULD HAVE BEEN A RECALL; EVEN-THOUGH THAT MAY COST THEM MONEY, BUT IT'S GM'S RESPONSIBILITY AND THAT WILL COST THEM CUSTOMERS IN THE FUTURE!! *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE TRAVELING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE REDUCED ENGINE POWER ALARM RINGS AND THE ENGINE IMMEDIATELY LOSES POWER. THE POWER RETURNS AFTER THE VEHICLE IS TURNED OFF AND BACK ON. THE DEALERSHIP REWIRED THE VEHICLE, REPLACED THE MODULATOR, SENSOR AND RELAY. THESE ATTEMPTS HAVE NOT REPAIRED THE PROBLEM.
6-2006, 98 DEGREES, CENTENNIAL, COLORADO 2004 CHEVY 8.1 LITER SUBURBAN, DRIVING 55-60 MPH FOR APPROX. 1 HOUR(NO TRAILER) VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOSS POWER, I HAD TO PULL OVER AND HAVE VEHICLE TOWED TO CHEVY DEALER. (DEALER STATED CODES INDICATED MISFIRING) FURTHER TESTING, SERVICE WAS ABLE TO DUPLICATE ISSUE AND LOCATE A BULLETIN OUTLINING THE PROBLEM. PER DEALER, FAULTY FUEL PUMP, GM ADVISED TO SWITCH FUEL PUMP TO A HIGH ALTITUDE PUMP, TO REMEDY THE ISSUE. WHICH WAS DONE, AND IT FIXED THE ISSUE. AS THE 8.1 LITER SUBURBAN IS A VEH. PRIMARILY USED FOR TOWING, THIS NEEDS TO BE A RECALL OR CAMPAIGN TO WARN PEOPLE. THIS SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER AND CONTROL COULD BE CATASTROPHIC IN NATURE. *NM
FUEL PUMP SEIZES WHEN IN HOT CLIMATES OR WHEN TOWING A TRAILER. GM REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP LAST YEAR AND IT APPEARED TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM. BUT, THE PROBLEM OCCURRED AGAIN WHILE PULLING A TRAILER UP AND DOWN A STEEP MOUNTAIN PASS RESULTING IN A LOSS OF BRAKES AND STEERING WHEN THE ENGINE STALLED. THIS OCCURS WHEN THE FUEL TANK IS AT 1/4 FULL OR LESS. THE TRAILERING FUEL ADVANCE DELIVERS FUEL TO THE ENGINE AND IF NOT NEEDED THEN IT IS RETURNED TO THE TANK AND RECIRCULATION. THE FUEL IS WARM WHEN RETURNED TO THE TANK. THE LONGER THE ENGINE RUNS THE HOTTER THE FUEL BECOMES AND WHEN THE FUEL IN THE TANK BECOMES HOT ENOUGH THE FUEL PUMP, WHICH IS LOCATED IN THE FUEL TANK THEN SEIZES AND THE ENGINE STALLS. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD, PARTICULARLY WHEN TRAILERING IN THE MOUNTAINS AND THE LOSS OF BRAKES AND STEERING OCCURS. THE ONLY SOLUTION WHEN THIS OCCURS IS TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD IF POSSIBLE, RAISE THE HOOD AND LET THE VEHICLE COOL FOR 15-20 MINUTES AND THEN START AGAIN. OR, FIND THE NEAREST GAS STATION AND FILL THE TANK WITH COOL GASOLINE SO THE FUEL PUMP NO LONGER SEIZES. IN THE CASE OF BREAKING DOWN ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, THIS IS ANOTHER MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD SINCE THIS PROBLEM OCCURS BOTH GOING UP OR DOWN HILLS AND THERE IS A LOSS OF STEERING AND BRAKES. THIS MEANS THE VEHICLE IS OFTEN IN TRAFFIC AND MAY RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT.*JB
INCIDENTS REGARDING BRIDGESTONE P265/70R17 DUELLER H/T TIRES 113S M&S. TIRES HAVE PREMATURE WEAR AND TEAR WHERE MY VEHICLE ONLY HAS 11,000 MILES. HAD AN ALIGNMENT DONE AND THE MECHANIC STATES ALIGNMENT FINE AFTER HAVING TO SPEND $80 BUT FEELS THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE HAS ISSUES WITH THE BRIDGESTONE TIRES AND SHOULD BE RECALLED OR COVERED BY WARRANTY. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN IN FOR SEAT REPAIRS, THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC DISCOVERED THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT BELT WAS NEVER ATTACHED TO THE FRAME. THE SEAT BELT WAS REATTACHED TO THE FRAME.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WITHOUT WARNING THE SPEEDOMETER STOPPED WORKING. THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THE SPEEDOMETER CLUSTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. ALSO, WHILE TURNING THE CONTACT FELT A KNOCKING IN THE STEERING. THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *NM UPDATED 2/7/2006 - *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE SPEEDOMETER DISPLAYED AN INCORRECT READING ON THE DASH PANEL GAUGE. THE INCORRECT DISPLAY WAS CONSTANT AND FAVORED NO PARTICULAR SPEED. HOWEVER THE MOST COMMON EVIDENCE OF THIS PROBLEM WAS WHILE DRIVING AT A LOW SPEED THE GAUGE DISPLAYED AN OUTRAGEOUSLY HIGH SPEED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER HAVE BEEN CONTACTED. *AK
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS BETWEEN 5 AND 45 MPH THE VEHICLE STALLED ON 6 OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESTART AND HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALER EACH TIME. THIS PROBLEM STARTED IN AUGUST 2005. ON 5 OCCASIONS THE DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM HOWEVER; ADJUSTMENTS WERE MADE TO THE VEHICLE. ON THE SIXTH OCCASION THE DEALER REPLACED THE PCM MODULE.
THE SPEEDOMETER FAILS IN MY 2004 CHEVY SUBURBAN, THE SPEEDOMETER BOUNCES BETWEEN SPEEDS AND STICKS AT ANY GIVEN SPEED. NO REAL SOLUTION OTHER THAN REPLACE THE INSTRUMENT PANEL . GM TAKES NO LIABILITY FOR THE PROBLEM. (9 OTHERS IN THE AREA HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. *JB
MY SPEEDOMETER DOESN'T CONSISTENTLY WORK. SOME TIME IT DOES.. SOME TIMES IT SAYS I'M DOING 110 MPH AND PEOPLE ARE PASSING ME AND MY RPMS ARE AT 1800. ALSO WHEN MY SPEED OMETER DOESN'T WORK MY REAR DFOG AND WIPER DO WORK. WHEN MY REAR DEFOG AND WIPER DON'T WORK MY SPEEDOMETER DOES WORK. HAD STARTING PROBLEMS WITH MY SUV. TOWED TO DEALER, WHERE I WAS TOLD THAT THE FUEL PUMP WENT BAD DUE TO A CLOGGED FUEL FILTER. CALLED TO COMPLAIN TO GM THAT THE REQUIREMENT TO REPLACE THE FUEL FILTER WAS NOT LISTED ON THEIR SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE CHART IN THE OWNER'S MANUAL, I WAS THEN TOLD THAT THE PUMP SHORTED OUT WHICH CAUSED THE FAILURE. THIS IS AN INTERNAL FUEL PUMP MOUNTED WITHIN THE TANK ITSELF. *JB
DT: CONTACT STATED WHEN HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR ROUTINE SERVICES THE MECHANIC FOUND THAT 2 FRONT TIRES WERE WORN OUT BECAUSE THE IDLER ARM AND THE PITMAN SHAFT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED .THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AT NO COST TO CONSUMER BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. *AK UPDATED 12/27/05. *JB
