TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN 1500. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING SHE SMELLED FUEL. WHEN SHE REACHED HER DESTINATION, SHE NOTICED THAT FUEL WAS SPILLING OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE ONTO THE GROUND. THIRTY SECONDS AFTER TURNING THE VEHICLE OFF, THE FUEL STOPPED LEAKING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO TWO REPAIRS SHOPS WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FUEL PRESSURE LINE FROM THE TANK TO THE CROSSOVER AND THE MOTOR HAD RUBBED TOGETHER WHICH CAUSED THE FAILURE TO OCCUR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO ADVISED HER TO REPORT THE PROBLEM TO NHTSA. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 140,000.
INSTRUMENT PANEL - CLUSTER DEVICE -- PANEL/ SPEEDOMETER WENT DEAD. GM SERVICE DEALER TOLD US, " THE ENTIRE TRUCK COULD DIE AND STOP WORKING AS A RESULT. " *TR
1. THE REAR LIFTGATE WAS PERIODICALLY STICKING IN THE LOCKED POSITION EVEN WHEN UNLOCKING THE CAR WITH THE KEY FOB OR THE LOCK/UNLOCK BUTTONS. 2. THE REAR LIFTGATE IS NOW STUCK PERMANENTLY IN THE LOCKED POSITION MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO LOAD/UNLOAD THE REAR AREA OF THE CAR. THIS IS ALSO A SAFETY ISSUE AS REAR PASSENGERS MAY BECOME TRAPPED IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT, SINCE THERE IS NO MANUAL UNLOCKING MECHANISM FOR THE REAR LIFT GATE. 3. NO CORRECTIVE ACTION HAS BEEN TAKEN YET. *TR
2005 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN. FAILURE OF THE ABS / TRACTION CONTROL COMPUTER (GM PART NO.15234605). FAILURE OCCURRED AT 62,000 MILES DUE TO CORROSION INSIDE THE MODULE. *TR
2005 CHEVY SURBURBAN SPEEDOMETER (55,549 MILES) IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY. SPEED VARIES WHEN CAR IS IN USE MAKING IT UNSAFE TO DRIVE. I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE ACTUAL SPEED IS AT TIMES/AND SOMETIMES THE SPEED DROPS TO ZERO AND STAYS IN THIS SETTING. *LN
AS HAS BEEN REPORTED BY MANY OTHERS, IT APPEARS THAT CHEVROLET'S PROBLEMS REGARDING THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER IN THEIR LIGHT TRUCKS EXTEND BEYOND THE 2003 AND 2004 MODEL YEARS FOR WHICH THEY WERE "OFFERING" TO EXTEND THE WARRANTY TO 70,000 MILES. THE SPEEDOMETER IN OUR SUBURBAN ALSO BEGAN READING ERRATICALLY ABOUT A MONTH AGO AND HAS NOW PEGGED ITSELF AND IS STUCK AT 120 MPH. FORTUNATELY WE DID NOT HAVE ANY INCIDENTS WHEN THE SPEEDOMETER FAILED. HOWEVER, I BELIEVE CHEVROLET MAY HAVE A CONTINUING PROBLEM AND MORE SHOULD BE DONE TO CORRECT THIS VERY IMPORTANT SAFETY COMPONENT. ADDITIONALLY, I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO MENTION THAT WHILE I WAS SEARCHING FOR OTHER INCIDENT REPORTS ON THIS MATTER, I DISCOVERED THAT THE SCOPE OF THIS PROBLEM MAY BE MASKED BY THE FACT THAT IT IS APPLICABLE TO NUMEROUS DIFFERENT MODELS AND YEARS. IT MIGHT BE HELPFUL FOR YOU TO COMPILE THE REPORTS FOR ALL MODELS OF THE SUBURBAN, YUKON AND SILVERADO TRUCKS AND THEIR GMC CLONES FOR THE 2003 TO 2005 OR 2006 MODEL YEARS. I BELIEVE THAT IF YOU COMBINE THESE DIFFERENT MODELS, YOU WILL SEE THAT THE SCOPE OF THIS PROBLEM IS QUITE LARGER THAN IT MIGHT APPEAR FOR EACH OF THESE MODELS SEPARATELY.
2005 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN STEERING GEAR FAILURE X5. THE STEERING GEAR AND INTERMEDIATE DRIVE SHAFT HAS FAILED 5 TIMES SINCE 2006. VEHICLE HAS 85K MILES ON IT. *LN
FOR APPROXIMATELY THE LAST 4 YEARS THE AIRBAG LIGHT HAS BEEN ON INDICATING AN ISSUE WITH THE AIRBAG SYSTEM. GIVEN ALL THE AIRBAG PROBLEMS IN RECENT YEARS AND THE FACT THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH 2005 GM SUVS AND GIVEN AIRBAGS ARE VITAL SAFETY EQUIPMENT GM NEEDS TO PROVIDE OWNERS WITH THESE PROBLEMS A FREE FIX OR BE FORCED TO RECALL THESE VEHICLES IMMEDIATELY FOR REPAIRS BEFORE ALOT OF PEOPLE GET HURT OR KILLED.
MY 2005 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN HAS 79,985 MILES AND THIS WEEK WHILE DRIVING ROUTE 95 (70 MPH HIGHWAY IN THE SOUTH) FROM NEW JERSEY TO SOUTH CAROLINA MY SPEEDOMETER STARTED SHOWING A MUCH HIGHER SPEED THEN I WAS TRAVELING. I WAS USING MY GPS AT THE TIME AND IT SAID I WAS DOING 69 MPH WHILE MY GAUGE SHOWED A CONSTANT CLIMB TILL IT REACHED 120 MPH AND FLAT LINED BEYOND THAT POINT. THIS WAS A 1600 MILE ROUND TRIP AND IF I HAD NOT HAD MY GPS WITH ME I WOULD NOT KNOW HOW FAST OR SLOW I WAS GOING. I WAS WAITING FOR SOMETHING ELSE TO GO WRONG. WHILE IN SOUTH CAROLINA I WENT TO RECALLS ON THE INTERNET WITH 2005 GM SUV'S AND FOUND A WHOLE BUNCH OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS, YET GM (CHEVROLET) HAS NOT DONE ANYTHING THAT I COULD FIND. I RETURNED HOME TODAY AND CALLED MY LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALER AND EXPLAINED TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT WHAT HAD HAPPENED AND THEY SAID THEY NEVER HEARD OF THIS AND GAVE ME AN APPOINTMENT FOR NEXT MONDAY 1/3/2011 TO BRING IN THE SUV. SINCE THIS CAR IS OUT OF SERVICE I AM HOLDING MY BREATH AS TO WHAT THE BILL COULD BE. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS THING, I COULD BE NOT LOOKING AT THE GAUGE AND BE RUNNING RIGHT INTO A HIGH SPEED ERROR AND PUTTING MY FAMILY IN HARMS WAY. CAN ANYONE HELP? *TR
SPEEDOMETER ON OUR 2005 SURBURBAN HAS BEEN MALFUNCTIONING LIKE ALL OTHERS REPORTED ON THIS SITE - OURS FOR WELL OVER TWO YEARS: SOMETIMES READS ZERO WHEN DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, OTHER TIMES IS TACKED AT OVER 120 MPH. WE CAN BE AT A STOP AND IT READS 90. AFRAID TO USE CRUISE CONTROL - WHO KNOWS WHAT WILL HAPPEN! WAITING FOR NHTSA TO DEMAND A RECALL THESE VEHICLES: WHAT WILL IT TAKE? WHILE DRIVING THE SPEEDOMETER JUMPED TO 20 MPH AND NEVER DROPPED BACK DOWN. *TR
WE OWN A 2005 CHEVY SUBURBAN, AND THE SPEEDOMETER BEGAN TO JUMP AROUND AND ACT ERRATICALLY. IT NOW SHOWS ABOUT 60 MPH, EVEN THOUGH THE VEHICLE IS AT A STOP. GOES UP ABOVE 120 MPH WHILE DRIVING THROUGH TOWN. WE CALLED THE DEALERSHIP, AND JUST LIKE OTHERS REPORTED, WAS TOLD WE WERE GOING TO BE TAKEN FOR OVER $600 FOR A REPAIR THAT IS OCCURRING IN VIRTUALLY EVERY 2005 GM TRUCK (ALONG WITH OTHER YEARS). WE CAN NO LONGER TELL WHAT SPEED WE ARE DRIVING, WHICH IS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD, ESPECIALLY FOR MY TEENAGE DRIVERS THAT DRIVE THIS VEHICLE. *TR
AT 99K MILES THE SPEEDOMETER STARTED ACTING ERRATIC. THERE ARE TIMES IT IS CORRECT AND TIMES WHEN IT READS 5 TO 25 MILES MORE THAN MY TRAVELING SPEED. IT IS DEFINITELY HIT OR MISS AS TO WHEN THIS WILL OCCUR. NOW THE OIL PRESSURE GAUGE AND THE RPM GAUGE ARE ACTING FAULTY AS WELL. I HAVE NOT TAKEN ANY MEASURES TO CORRECT THE SPEEDOMETER BUT IT WILL RESET ITSELF AFTER SEVERAL TIMES OF TURNING THE CAR ON AN OFF. THIS IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY HAZARD WHEN THE SPEEDOMETER READS ERRANTLY WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE. *TR
2005 CHEVY SUBURBAN THE SPEEDOMETER JUST WENT OUT @ 42,600K MILES. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS NO KEY SLOT FOR THE REAR HATCH AND NOW THE SWITCH, WHICH WAS ON THE DRIVERS SIDE WILL NOT OPEN THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO OPEN THE WINDOW ON THE REAR HATCH AS WELL. THE DEALER STATED IT WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY, BUT THE MODULE THAT CONTROLS THE REAR HATCH AND WINDOW HAD FAILED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 61000.
ONE WEEK AGO I WAS DRIVING TO MY BACK ABOUT 6 TO 7 MILES AND MY BRAKES WENT OUT. I WAS SO SCARED I ALMOST DIED IT WAS A HEAVY TRAFFIC AREA. THIS TIME IT WAS MY FRONT ROTOR CRACKED RIGHT IN HALF. I SEE A BIG PROBLEM WITH THIS ESPECIALLY WHEN THE CAR IS ONLY 5 YEARS OLD. I HAVE ASKED AROUND AND NOBODY HAS EVER SEEN OR HEARD OF SUCH A THING. THIS IS CRAZY AND I TAKE MY KIDS IN THIS CAR. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN 1500. THE CONTACT STATED HE NOTICED WHILE DRIVING 30 TO 40 MPH THAT THE SPEEDOMETER READ 120 MPH, AND WHEN DRIVING 70MPH THE SPEEDOMETER READ 0 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE INSTRUMENTAL CLUSTER PANEL FAILED. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THAT BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS OVER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY COVERAGE, THEY WOULD NOT ASSIST WITH THE REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 69,000.
I WAS DRIVING WITH MY TWO YOUNG CHILDREN IN THE CAR AND MY CAR MADE A CLICKING SOUND AND THEN BEGIN TO SHAKE AND VIBRATE. THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN IT MADE A REALLY LOUD NOISE THAT SOUNDED LIKE THE BOTTOM OF THE CAR FELL ONTO THE ROAD AND WAS BEING DRAGGED ALONG AND THE IT WOULD NOT GO ANYMORE. I TRIED PUTTING IT IN PARK AND IT WOULD NOT STOP, IT ROLLED BACKWARDS UNTIL I PUT THE EMERGENCY BRAKE ON AND TURNED IT OFF. I HAD IT TOWED TO MECHANIC WHO INFORMED ME THE DRIVE SHAFT BROKE IN TWO. IT WAS A VERY SCARY INCIDENT WITH MY TWO SMALL CHILDREN IN THE CAR. THEY WERE CRYING INCONSOLABLY AND SCARED. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHY THIS HAPPENED AND IF THERE IS SOME KIND OF DEFECT IN THE 2005 CHEVY SUBURBAN THAT CAUSED THIS. *TR
SPEEDOMETER VERY ERRATIC, SHOWS EXCESSIVE SPEEDS (120MPH) OR DOESN'T REGISTER CORRECT SPEED AT ALL. CALLED DEALER NUMEROUS TIMES ABOUT PROBLEM AND NEVER TOLD ABOUT THE TSB ONLY THAT IT WOULD BE OVER $600 TO FIX. DID RESEARCH ONLINE AND FOUND TSB AND CALLED AGAIN. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY HAZARD AND ONE THAT CHEVROLET SHOULD ADDRESS ACROSS THE BOARD WITH THE VEHICLES AFFECTED BY THIS. THEN WAS TOLD CAN'T FIX IT BECAUSE OF MILEAGE UNLESS I PAY OUT OF POCKET. NOW NEEDLE IS STUCK AT ZERO AND UNFORTUNATELY BEING MILITARY WE DON'T GET PAID ENOUGH TO JUST SHELL OUT $600+ ON A WHIM. SOMEONE NEEDS TO MAKE CHEVROLET TAKE CARE OF THEIR FAULTY PRODUCTS, IF YOU PAY FOR A PREMIUM PRODUCT YOU SHOULD GET ONE. *TR
2005 CHEVY SUBURBAN SPEEDOMETER FAILURE. WHILE DRIVING HIGHWAY SPEED SPEEDOMETER STOPPED INDICATING CORRECT SPEED, INDICATED 120 MILES PER HOUR. SPEEDOMETER IS NOT WORKING AT ALL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH WHEN THE BRAKES LOCKED AND THE VEHICLE WOULD ONLY ACCELERATE AT A VERY LOW SPEED. THE CONTACT CONTINUED TO DRIVE AT A LOW SPEED UNTIL SHE HEARD A LOUD BANG AND THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY BEGAN TO PICK UP SPEED. THE FAILURE RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED NOR WAS THE VEHICLE INSPECTED FOR THE FAILURE. ON A LATER DATE WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, SHE APPLIED PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE PEDAL ABNORMALLY DEPRESSED INTO THE FLOORBOARD. THE BRAKES DID NOT RESPOND AND THE CONTACT SHIFTED THE VEHICLE INTO NEUTRAL AND COASTED TO A STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS EXAMINED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE BRAKE DISCS HAD FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. SHE ALSO STATED THAT THE SPEEDOMETER WAS INOPERABLE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
THIS IS A PREVENTATIVE COMPLAINT ABOUT A 2005 CHEVY SUBURBAN REAR GLASS HINGE. SINCE FINDING OURS BROKEN FOR NO APPARENT REASON, WE HAVE FOUND MANY OTHER OWNERS OF SUBURBANS AND TAHOES WITH THE SAME ISSUE, SOME EVEN STATING THE GLASS FLEW OFF INTO THE ROAD. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR LIFT GATE LOCK MECHANISM WOULD NOT OPERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS NEITHER TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION NOR WAS THE MANUFACTURER CONTACTED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
THE FUEL LINE THAT IS ON TOP OF THE GAS TANK ROTTED THROUGH. THE BRAKE AND TRANSMISSION LINES ROTTED AND LEAKED. THE CHASSIS IS ROTTING IN DIFFERENT PLACES I HAVE LESS THAN 77,000 MILES ON IT SINCE I BOUGHT NEW. I HAVE A 1969 MALIBU THAT I'VE HAD SINCE IT WAS NEW AND I KEEP IT OUTSIDE IN ALL KINDS OF WEATHER AND NOT ONE PART OF THE CHASSIS IS ROTTED. I DON'T KNOW WHAT KIND OF STEEL THEY USE NOW TO BUILD THESE CARS AND TRUCKS, BUT IT SHOULD BE UNACCEPTABLE. I DON'T KNOW THE EXACT DATES THESE THINGS HAPPENED, BUT I DO HAVE ALL THE REPAIR BILLS FOR THEM. WHEN THE BRAKE LINE ROTTED THROUGH I WAS GOING TO THE STORE AND WHEN I CAME TO A YIELD SIGN THE BRAKE PEDAL WHET TO THE FLOOR. IT'S A GOOD THING IT HAPPENED THEN, BECAUSE I LIVE ON A MOUNTAIN AND WE HAVE A ROAD CALLED BREAKNECK AND IT IS A 25% GRADE. IT WAS RAINING THE DAY THAT THIS HAPPENED AND ALL I HAD WAS A LITTLE BIT OF FOOT BRAKE AND THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. I SURELY WOULD HAVE HAD A BAD ACCIDENT IF I MADE IT TO THAT HILL.

EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLT HEAD BROKE OFF. 1ST BOLT INITIALLY THEN SECOND BOLT NEXT TO IT BROKE AS WELL. NO WORK HAS BEEN DONE TO MOTOR OR AFTERMARKET PARTS ADDED THAT WOULD AFFECT THIS PART AND CREATE FAILURE. EXHAUST GAS ENTERS THE UNDERHOOD AREA . THE EXHAUST MAKES A BLACK PLUME UP SIDE OF MOTOR. CONCERNED THAT THE LEAK COULD WORSEN LEADING TO EXHAUST FUMES ENTERING PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. I DO NOT KNOW IF THE ESCAPING HOT EXHAUST GAS COULD LEAD TO FIRE. IN ADDITION, I WOULD THINK THE EPA WOULD BE CONCERNED ABOUT EFFECTS ON VEHICLE EMISSIONS. THE LEAKING EXHAUST GAS IS NOT PASSED THROUGH THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. THE LEAKING GAS IS ALSO NOT SAMPLED BY THE OXYGEN SENSOR AND COULD EFFECT THE SENSORS INPUT TO THE VEHICLE COMPUTER. I SEE BY DOING SIMPLE INTERNET SEARCHES ON THIS TOPIC THAT THE BOLT FAILURE AND LEAKING EXHAUST MANIFOLD PROBLEM IS WIDESPREAD. I HAVE NOT REPAIRED THE BROKEN BOLTS YET. *TR
REAR HATCH OF MY 2005 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN FAILED TO OPEN. THERE IS NO DEVICE INSIDE THE VEHICLE TO EFFECT ESCAPE, IF INVOLVED IN A CRASH THAT WOULD AFFECT OPENING OF ANY OF THE FOUR SIDE DOORS, AND QUICK EXIT MANDATORY. I AM A RETIRED JERSEY CITY FIREFIGHTER, AND DID NOT REALIZE THE SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
THE DRIVER SIDE SEAT HEATER RANDOMLY TURNS ITSELF ON. WHEN YOU TURN IT OFF IT COMES BACK ON AGAIN AND RANDOMLY CYCLES THROUGH THE VARIOUS SETTINGS. IT'S ALMOST A CONSTANT BATTLE TRYING TO KEEP IT TURNED OFF WHICH CREATES A HAZARDOUS SITUATION EQUAL TO, OR WORSE, THEN TEXTING WHILE DRIVING AS YOU HAVE TO KEEP LOOKING DOWN TO PUSH THE BUTTON, ESPECIALLY HERE IN FLORIDA WHERE YOU DON'T NEED (OR WANT) SEAT HEAT IN THE SUMMER. I'VE FOUGHT THIS TO THE POINT THAT I'VE WORN THE PAINT OFF THE SWITCH. IF YOU SEARCH THE INTERNET THIS IS A VERY PREVALENT PROBLEM WITH GM VEHICLES DURING THESE MODEL YEARS. I ALSO HAVE A 2006 GMC SIERRA THAT DOES THE EXACT SAME THING. I'VE BEEN TO AT LEAST 5 DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS AND EITHER THEY CAN'T FIX IT OR THEY CLAIM THEY'VE NEVER HEARD OF THE PROBLEM. THAT CAN'T BE TRUE SINCE GM ISSUED A TSB FOR THIS PROBLEM BUT THE RECOMMENDED FIX (REPROGRAMMING THE DRIVER DOOR SWITCH) ACTUALLY DOES NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. IN FACT, WHEN THE DEALER REPROGRAMMED MY GMC IT ACTUALLY MADE IT WORSE TO WHERE IT HAPPENS MUCH MORE FREQUENTLY. I CONTACTED GM AND EVEN THOUGH I TOOK IT TO A DEALER 4-5 MONTHS AGO WHERE THEY COULDN'T FIX IT, GM SAYS I HAVE TO TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALER (PAY ANOTHER $100 DIAGNOSTIC FEE) TO MEET THEIR POLICY THAT THEY WILL ONLY ADDRESS THE ISSUE IF YOU'VE BEEN TO A DEALER WITHIN THE LAST 30 DAYS. SOME REPORTS ARE THE SEAT HEATER ELEMENTS ARE SHORTING OUT. EITHER WAY THIS CREATES A VERY UNSAFE SITUATION FOR DRIVERS. GM SAYS I CAN PULL THE FUSE FOR THE SEAT HEATERS. HOWEVER, WHEN YOU REMOVE THE FUSE LABELED "SEAT HEATER" IT ACTUALLY DOES NOTHING. THE SEATS ARE STILL POWERED AND THE PROBLEM PERSISTS. THIS CLEARLY INDICATES AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM AND DESIGN FLAW. THE CHEVY DEALERS ALSO SAY THAT THERE IS A RECALL BUT OUR CARS VIN NUMBER DOESN'T MEET THE RECALL. THEY AGREE CHEVY SHOULD REPAIR THE VEHICLE. AT APPROXIMATELY 4 YEARS AND 45,000 MILES AFTER PURCHASE OF MY 2005 SUBURBAN, THE TACHOMETER BEGAN FAILING WITH INTERMITTENT LOW READINGS OR NO READING. SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THE TACHOMETER ISN'T REALLY VERY USEFUL FOR AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION VEHICLE, I WAS NOT OVERLY CONCERNED AND I DID NOT BRING THE VEHICLE IN FOR REPAIR DUE TO THE ANTICIPATED HIGH EXPENSE. SHORTLY AFTER THE TACHOMETER FAILURE (ABOUT 55,000 MILES) THE GAS GAUGE BEGAN FAILING WITH ERRATIC READINGS. ULTIMATELY THE BEHAVIOR DEGRADED TO A PEGGED COUNTER CLOCKWISE CONDITION WHERE THE READING NOW STAYS AT ALL TIMES. ALTHOUGH INCONVENIENT, THE 'MILES TO EMPTY' INFORMATION DISPLAY SEEMED TO CONTINUE TO WORK NORMALLY AND I DECIDED I COULD USE THAT METHOD INSTEAD OF HAVING A REPAIR PERFORMED. I'VE BEEN USING THAT METHOD EVER SINCE WITHOUT ANY ISSUES, BUT I TEND TO BE CONSERVATIVE AND FILL UP BEFORE I COME CLOSE TO BEING EMPTY. WITHIN THE NEXT SIX MONTHS AFTER THE GAS GAUGE FAILED (ABOUT 60,000 MILES), THE VOLT METER BEGAN GIVING ERRONEOUSLY HIGH READINGS OF ABOUT 20 VOLTS. IT WAS A PRETTY RARE EVENT. WHEN IT SHOWED THIS OVER VOLTAGE CONDITION, I CHECKED THE CHARGING VOLTAGE AT SEVERAL LOCATIONS AND FOUND THE VOLTAGE TO BE NORMAL. WHEN I DETERMINED THAT THERE WASN'T AN ACTUAL OVER-VOLTAGE CONDITION, I WASN'T TOO CONCERNED ABOUT THIS INFREQUENT ISSUE. SEVERAL MONTHS AFTER THE GAS GAUGE FAILURE, THE SPEEDOMETER BEGAN FAILING WITH LOW OR NO READINGS. IT STARTED OUT TO BE A VERY RARE OCCURRENCE. THE ISSUE NOW SEEMS TO BE OCCURRING WITH GREATER FREQUENCY. THE INCREASED FAILURE RATE CONCERNS ME SINCE IT CAN RESULT IN A SAFETY HAZARD AS WELL AS COULD RESULT IN A COSTLY SPEEDING TICKET. I WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF ANY OF THE GM CAMPAIGNS FOR THIS ISSUE ON THE SAME MODEL VEHICLE ON DIFFERENT VINS. GM'S POSITION IS ANY REPAIR WILL BE AT MY FULL EXPENSE (APPROX $600). *TR

THERE IS A LAWSUIT FOR 2004 MODELS AND ONLY UP TO 70,000MILES. THIS IS A CLUSTER FAILURE AFFECTING THOUSANDS OF SUBURBAN,TAHOE, AND SIMILAR MODEL OWNERS. THE DEALERSHIPS ARE CHARGING AN AVERAGE OF $450.00 TO REPAIR THIS DEFECT THAT, JUDGING FROM THE LAWSUIT IS A COMMON PROBLEM. IT AFFECTS MY MONITORING OF MY SPEED AND ENDANGERS THE PUBLIC AND ALSO PUTS DRIVERS IN A BAD POSITION WITH LAW ENFORCEMENT. GM IS OBLIGATED TO REPAIR A PROBLEM THAT THEY HAD KNOWLEDGE OF. LIFTGATE DOES NOT HAVE A KEY LOCK ENTRY AND WILL NOT UNLOCK USING THE DRIVER SIDE LOCK/UNLOCK DOOR PANEL OR THE HAND HELD KEY REMOTE THEREFORE I CANNOT OPEN IT AT ALL. IT IS EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING SINCE WE GOT THE SUBURBAN FOR THE SPACE BUT, BESIDES THAT - IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY THIS COULD BE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. THERE IS NO MANUAL RELEASE. IF THE FRONT END OF THE CAR WERE DAMAGED AND THE SIDE DOORS WERE UNABLE TO BE OPENED THERE IS NO WAY OF OPENING THE REAR DOOR. I HAVE TWO SMALL CHILDREN AND THIS IS OF GREAT CONCERN TO ME. I GET FLASHES OF A CAR ACCIDENT AND A FIRE WITH MY KIDS TRAPPED INSIDE WITHOUT BEING ABLE TO OPEN THE REAR DOOR FROM OUTSIDE OR INSIDE! I CANNOT BELIEVE THERE IS NO MANUAL SAFETY LEVER! PRIOR TO THE FAILURE, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE REAR HATCH WOULD NOT LOCK PROPERLY AND WOULD TRIGGER THE VEHICLE'S ALARM SYSTEM. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER. I HAVE A 2005 CHEVROLET SURBURBAN. THE BACK HATCH WINDOW HAS PLASTIC OR RUBBER HINGES TO HOLD IT TO THE FRAME.
