TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET TAHOE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH IN REVERSE THE ANTI LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM ENGAGED INVOLUNTARILY. ONCE THE VEHICLE REACHED A COMPLETE STOP HE WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE DRIVING AS NORMAL. THE FAILURE BEGAN TO RECUR INTERMITTENTLY SO HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE HE WAS INFORMED HIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V379000, SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 111,092.
DRIVING IN THE FAST LANE ON THE FREEWAY, HAD A SUDDEN STOP IN TRAFFIC, MY BRAKES WENT TO THE FLOOR, AND SKIPPED TO A STOP. BRAKES WENT TO THE FLOOR THEREAFTER HAVING TO COAST TO A STOP. BRAKE LINE HAD RUST CORROSION AND CRACKED. THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN OCTOBER 2010. MY SON WAS DRIVING US TO HIS DRIVER'S EDUCATION CLASS AND THE BRAKES WENT COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR HAVING TO COAST TO A STOP. THANKFULLY, NO ONE WAS HURT. ANOTHER LINE HAD RUST CORROSION AND SPLIT IN TWO.
THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH THE "REAR WINDOW/DOOR HINGE" OF MY TAHOE. THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL FOR 2003 MODELS WHICH USE THE IDENTICAL HINGE. MY 2000 TAHOE HAS TH ESAME FAULTY HINGE CHEVROLET/GM USED FOR THE REAR WINDOW AND IT IS BROKEN ON THE TOP RIGHT. MY REAR WINDOW IS HANGING ON ONE SIDE AND WATER COMING IN. THE ONLY THING HOLDING THE WINDOW RIGHT NOW IS THE LEFT FAULTY HINGE ! I CALLED GM MANY TIMES TO MAKE POINT THAT THE FAULTY HINGE THEY USED ON REAR WINDOWS IN 2003 IS THE SAME HINGE I GOT ON MY VEHICLE. IT IS FAULTY ALSO. SERVICE CONFIRMS IT BUT CAN'T DO ANYTHING UNTIL GM SAYS GO FIX IT. I AM DRIVING AROUND WITH A HANGING REAR WINDOW BECAUSE OF FAULTY GM HINGE. GM KNOWS THE HINGES ARE FAULTY BUT ONLY AGREEING TO FIX 2003 MODELS. I HAVE BEEN EMAILING, CALLING GM AND TALKING TO MY LOCAL SERVICE ALSO, JUST TO CHANGE THE FAULTY HINGE THEY PUT ON MY VEHICLE, I NEDD TO BUY A WHOLE REAR WINDOW COSTING $1,000. OUTRAGED !
I OWN A 2000 CHEVROLET TAHOE. I BEGAN HAVING TROUBLE STOPPING AT LOW SPEEDS, THE ABS SYSTEM IS ENGAGING WHEN I DROP BELOW APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH, MAKING IT VERY DIFFICULT TO STOP AT LOW SPEEDS. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED, I ALMOST DROVE OFF A CLIFF ON A MOUNTAIN ROAD BECAUSE I COULDN'T STOP THE TRUCK. THE CLIFF IS APPROXIMATELY 1,500 FEET DOWN - WE ARE VERY LUCKY WE AREN'T DEAD BECAUSE WE ONLY STOPPED A FEW FEET FROM THE EDGE. THROUGH ONLINE RESEARCH, I FOUND A NHTSA RECALL (CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V379000), WHICH STATED THAT CERTAIN PICKUP TRUCKS AND SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES MAY EXPERIENCE UNWANTED ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM ACTIVATION. THE CONDITION WAS MORE LIKELY TO OCCUR IN ENVIRONMENTALLY CORROSIVE AREAS. THE RECALL WAS LAUNCHED ONLY IN THE "SALT BELT" STATES. THE CHEVY TAHOE I OWN WAS ORIGINALLY PURCHASED IN WISCONSIN AND DRIVEN THERE FOR 5 YEARS BEFORE I PURCHASED IT AND MOVED TO COLORADO. I CALLED THE MANUFACTURER (GM/CHEVY) TO INFORM THEM OF THE ABS ISSUE, AND THEY STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL EVEN THOUGH THE FAILURES WERE IDENTICAL. THE MILEAGE IS 222,400. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET TAHOE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN ATTEMPTING TO APPLY THE BRAKES AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THERE WAS AN UNUSUAL INCREASE IN STOPPING DISTANCE. THE DEALER MADE REPAIRS UNDER NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC: ANTILOCK) AND THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR. IN ADDITION, THE ABS WOULD ABRUPTLY ENGAGE AFTER REPEATED PRESSURE WAS APPLIED TO THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER FOR ADDITIONAL REPAIRS OR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE UNKNOWN.
AIR BAG LIGHT IS ACTIVATED. I HAVE HAD MY 2000 TAHOE LS IN FOR SERVICE TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM ONCE ALREADY, BUT AFTER ABOUT 2 MONTHS THE LIGHT IS BACK ON. I FELT I NEEDED TO FILE THIS REPORT BECAUSE OF SEVERAL ARTICLES I HAVE READ ON THIS SUBJECT. I HAVE READ EVERYTHING FROM AIR BAGS WILL NOT DEPLOY, TO AIR BAGS WILL DEPLOY FOR NO REASON AT ALL,BOTH OF WHICH SHOULD BE CONSIDERED UNACCEPTABLE AND DANGEROUS. *TR

THE CONDITION WAS MORE LIKELY TO OCCUR IN ENVIRONMENTALLY CORROSIVE AREAS. THE RECALL WILL BE LAUNCHED ONLY IN THE "SALT BELT" STATES OF CONNECTICUT, DELAWARE, ILLINOIS, INDIANA, IOWA, MARYLAND, MASSACHUSETTS, MAINE, MICHIGAN, MINNESOTA, MISSOURI, NEW HAMPSHIRE, NEW JERSEY, NEW YORK, OHIO, PENNSYLVANIA, RHODE ISLAND, VERMONT, WEST VIRGINIA, WISCONSIN, AND THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL, ALTHOUGH THE FAILURES WERE IDENTICAL. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 118,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 112,000.
A CO-WORKER AND I WENT TO A CHRISTIAN BOOK STORE DURING LUNCH ON THURSDAY, MARCH 19, 2009, WE LEFT OUR OFFICE AT 12:30 PM. WE ARRIVED AT THE STORE APPROXIMATELY 12:50 PM. WE WENT INTO THE STORE, WE WEREN'T IN THE STORE 10 MINUTES AND MY ALARM WAS GOING OFF ON MY 2000 CHEVROLET TAHOE. I TRIED TO UNLOCK & RELOCK THE TRUCK BECAUSE I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST A FLUKE. I LOOKED OUT THE WINDOW OF THE STORE AND SAW A LITTLE SMOKE COMING FROM THE HOOD (NEAR THE WINDSHIELD). I THOUGHT MAYBE IT WAS OVERHEATING (WE NEVER HAD ANY TROUBLE WITH OVERHEATING IN THE PAST), FIRE NEVER ENTERED MY MIND FOR A SECOND. I RAN OUTSIDE AND OPENED THE DOOR. WHEN I OPENED THE DOOR THERE WAS A BUNCH OF SMOKE AND FIRE UNDER THE DRIVER'S SIDE DASH. THEN THE FIRE WENT CRAZY. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT SAID IT TOOK ALL THE WATER THEY HAD TO PUT IT OUT (500 GALLONS). THEY ARE PRETTY SURE IT WAS ELECTRICAL. WE HAVE NEVER HAD ANY TROUBLE WITH THIS TAHOE. WE DIDN'T HAVE ANYTHING MECHANICALLY DONE TO IT. IT LITERALLY CAUGHT FIRE SITTING IN THE PARKING LOT. IF THIS HAD HAPPENED WHEN I WAS STILL DRIVING MY FRIEND AND I WOULDN'T BE ALIVE. THIS HAS BEEN A VERY TRAUMATIC EVENT IN MY LIFE, DON'T KNOW WHAT THE INSURANCE IS GOING TO DO IF ANYTHING AND CAN'T AFFORD ANOTHER VEHICLE PAYMENT. PLUS THE TAHOE WAS ONLY 4 PAYMENTS FROM BEING PAID OFF. CALLED CHEVROLET ON FRIDAY, MARCH 20TH , TALKED TO OSCAR ROBINS AND HE WAS SUPPOSE TO TALK TO MY HUSBAND, INSTEAD HE HAD HIS REPRESENTATIVE CALL HIM AND ASK HIM USELESS QUESTIONS (LIKE MY HEIGHT??). MY HUSBAND SAID THAT REPRESENTATIVE WAS GOING TO CALL ME WITH SOME MORE QUESTIONS. THEY NEVER DID. *TR
ON DEC 24TH 2008 UPON PULLING INTO MY DRIVEWAY AT ABOUT 5-7 MPH ANTI-LOCK BRAKES ACTIVATED FOR NO APPARENT REASON CAUSING ME TO COLLIDE WITH MY HOUSE AFTER APPLYING BRAKES FOR OVER 20 FEET. *TR
MY SON WAS DRIVING ON I-74 NORTH OF INDIANAPOLIS AT THE POSTED HIGHWAY SPEED OF 70 MPH WHEN THE RIGHT REAR TIRE ON OUR CHEVY TAHOE DEFLATED. THE TIRE WAS A KELLY SAFARI - 265/75/16. THERE WAS NO APPARENT REASON WHY THE TIRE SUDDENLY WENT FLAT, SUCH AS A ROAD HAZARD OR A NAIL IN THE TIRE. GOODYEAR CUSTOMER SERVICE WAS UNRESPONSIVE WHEN I CALLED THEM. MY TIRE DEALER, TIRE DISCOUNTERS, GAVE ME $60 CREDIT TOWARD THE PURCHASE OF FOUR NEW TIRES SINCE I WAS UNCOMFORTABLE WITH THE REMAINING THREE TIRES. THE KELLY SUFARI TIRE HAD APPROXIMATELY 30 THOUSAND MILES (OVER ONE HALF THE ORIGINAL TREADWEAR WAS REMAINING AT THE TIME OF THE DEFLATION). THE TIRE WAS A LITTLE OVER 3 YEARS OLD AND THE OTHER THREE WERE STILL IN GOOD CONDITION. MY SON WAS ABLE TO CONTROL OUR TAHOE AND PULL TO THE SIDE OF I-74 WITHOUT LOSING CONTROL. I WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER GOODYEAR TIRE BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM AND THE LACK OF CONCERN EXHIBITED BY GOODYEAR'S CUSTOMER SERVICE DEPARTMENT. I HOPE THIS DEFLATION PROBLEM GETS RECORDED AND THE NHTSA FOLLOWS UP WITH GOODYEAR. I SEE I WAS NOT THE FIRST TO HAVE A BLOW-OUT DEFLATION PROBLEM WITH A KELLY SAFARI TIRE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET TAHOE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO A LAMP POST THAT WAS SURROUNDED BY CEMENT. THE FRONT END WAS PUSHED IN, WHICH CAUSED THE ENGINE TO SHIFT. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY AND THE DRIVER SUSTAINED INJURIES TO HIS BACK AND NECK. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP AND THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE AIR BAGS SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED. THE DEALER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE MANUFACTURER FILED A CASE AND STATED THAT THEY WOULD BE IN TOUCH WITH THEIR DECISION. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 144,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET TAHOE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE DASHBOARD. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL REPAIR FACILITY FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MECHANIC ADVISED THAT THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS WERE FRACTURED; TWO ON THE PASSENGER'S SIDE AND ONE ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. THE MECHANIC STATED THE ENGINE WOULD HAVE TO BE PULLED FROM THE VEHICLE TO PERFORM REPAIRS. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT WHEN HE WOULD OPEN THE HOOD, SMOKE WOULD EMIT FROM THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED HE WAS ABLE TO LOCATE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ON HIS YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL PERTAINING TO THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 300,000.
WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES AT LOW SPEEDS THE ABS KICKS IN MAKING THE VEHICLE SHUTTER TO A STOP WHICH MAKES THE VEHICLE UNABLE TO STOP RIGHT AWAY.
ABS INTERMITTENTLY CAME ON WHEN I APPLY THE BRAKES. AFTER SEVERAL WEEKS OF THIS HAPPENING THE BRAKES BECAME VERY MUSHY. CHANGED BOTH FRONT WHEEL SENSORS BUT DIDN'T FIX THE PROBLEM. TOOK TO REPAIR SHOP AND THEY SAID THE BRAKE MODULATOR WAS BAD - $1200 TO REPAIR. WE DISCONNECTED THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM AT THIS POINT. BRAKES WORK FINE WITHOUT IT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET TAHOE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN DRIVING 35 MPH OR LESS, THE VEHICLE WOULD EXHIBIT A LOUD GRINDING NOISE. IN ADDITION, THE BRAKE PEDAL WOULD BECOME SOFT WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES, INCREASING STOPPING DISTANCE AND TIME. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES FOR THE FAILURE WHERE THE DEALER REPLACED THE BRAKE AND THE ROTORS SEVERAL TIMES BUT THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 58,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 84,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET TAHOE. IN AN ATTEMPT TO PARK THE VEHICLE AT 5 MPH, THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL, BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP. THE BRAKES HAD TO BE APPLIED AGAIN IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. I HAVE A 2000 TAHOE AND AM HAVING A PROBLEM WITH THE ABS AS DESCRIBED IN THE RECALL. GM IS TELLING ME IT WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL BECAUSE OF THE MANUFACTURING LOCATION OF MY VEHICLE. THIS IS ABSURD. I LIVE IN AN AREA WHERE ROAD SALT IS USED AND WINTER CORROSION IS POSSIBLE. THIS IS A DANGEROUS ISSUE AND SHOULD INCLUDE ALL VEHICLES REGARDLESS OF WHERE THEY WERE MANUFACTURED. HOW DOES GM KNOW WHERE THE VEHICLE WENT AFTER IT WAS PURCHASED, THEY DON'T. I ALMOST HIT A PEDESTRIAN IN THE CROSSWALK A FEW DAYS BECAUSE THE ABS CAME ON WHILE I WAS GOING VERY SLOW. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET TAHOE. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE VEHICLE DROVE OVER A DIP IN THE ROAD AND THE FRONT END COLLAPSED. THE FRONT END WAS CUSTOMIZED WITH AN AFTERMARKET PART. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE A ARM FAILED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 77,000. UPDATED 04/16/2010. *LJ UPDATED 09/14/10
ABS ACTIVATES AT SPEEDS BELOW 7MPH WHILE BRAKING. HAVE ALMOST RUN INTO A VEHICLE AND PERSON DUE TO THIS FAILURE. THE TAHOE WAS ORIGINALLY PURCHASED IN TEXAS BUT HAS BEEN IN PA. FOR 3+ YEARS. MY VEHICLE SHOULD HAVE BEEN INCLUDED IN THE RECALL BUT I WAS TOLD IT WAS NOT, DOESN'T MAKE SENSE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET TAHOE. WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 3-6 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL PULSATED WHEN IT WAS DEPRESSED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SENSORS FAILED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VIN WAS EXCLUDED FROM NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK), ALTHOUGH THE FAILURES WERE IDENTICAL. THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO PAY $705 TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE STATE WHERE HE RESIDES IS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE CONTACT STILL DRIVES THE VEHICLE AND SHIFTS INTO NEUTRAL OR TURNS OFF THE VEHICLE WHEN NEEDING TO BRAKE, IN ORDER TO AVOID CRASHING INTO THE PRECEDING VEHICLE. THE RECALL INDICATES THAT THE FAILURE OCCURS IN CORROSIVE AREAS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 127,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET TAHOE. WHILE DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL AND DECELERATING FROM 20 MPH, THE ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) UNEXPECTEDLY ACTIVATES. THE FAILURE INCREASED THE STOPPING DISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTO SERVICE CENTER AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FRONT WHEEL SENSORS FAILED. THE DEALER STATED THAT HIS VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC: ANTILOCK). THE PURCHASE DATE WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 79,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 77,000. UPDATED 04/25/08 *BF
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET TAHOE. WHEN THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO ENGAGE THE BRAKE PEDAL AT LOW SPEEDS WHEN IT RAINS, SHE NOTICED THAT THE ABS BRAKE CONTROL ACTIVATED AND DISABLED THE BRAKES WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO CONTINUALLY MOVE FORWARD. THE FAILURE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY A DEALER. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN DURING VERY COLD TEMPERATURES THAT THE BRAKING DISTANCE WOULD INCREASE GREATLY. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 84,588 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS AT 70,000.
VEHICLE DID NOT STOP AT INTERSECTION WHEN BRAKES WERE APPLIED. THE ABS SOUNDED AS IF IT HAD ENGAGED BUT MY WHEELS DID NOT STOP. I HAD MY 2 CHILDREN IN THE VEHICLE AND FORTUNATELY NOTHING WAS COMING AND THEREFORE NO ONE WAS HURT OR KILLED. I REVIEWED THE NHTSA WEBSITE TO INVESTIGATE AND FOUND THAT CAMPAIGN NUMBER 05V379000 COVERS THIS PROBLEM AND THAT A RECALL HAD BEEN ISSUED TO REMOVE CORROSION FROM THE SPEED SENSORS AND APPLY RUST INHIBITOR. I CONTACTED APPLE CHEVROLET IN YORK, PA AND ON 2/28/07, THEY FOUND THE THAT MY WHEEL SPEED SENSORS HAD EXCESSIVE RUST BUILD UP. I WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL. I WAS CHARGED $241.65 FOR THESE REPAIRS AND I FEEL THAT I SHOULD NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS. HOW CAN OER 1.3 MILLION VEHICLES MADE BETWEEN 1999 AND 2002 BE RECALLED FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM AND MY VEHICLE IS NOT INCLUDED? *JB
THERE IS NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN 05V379000 CONCERNING THE ANTI LOCK BRAKES. THIS VEHICLE HAS THE SAME PROBLEMS AS INDICATED IN THE RECALL, BUT IT IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO VIN. DEALERS HAVE BEEN TELLING ME THAT THIS RECALL DOES NOT COVER 2000 TAHOE WITH THE OLD BODY STYLE (IE. AS INDICATED BY THE VIN). *NM
NO BRAKES AT LOW SPEED ON MY TAHOE. THE TRUCK WAS RECALLED IN 2006 FOR ANTI-LOCK BRAKE ISSUES. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED AFTER HAVING A RECALL PERFORMED IN OCTOBER 2005, THE ABS AND BRAKE LIGHT CONTINUED TO STAY ILLUMINATED. THE FRONT END SHOOK VERY BADLY. MID YEAR IN 2006 THE PASSENGER SIDE SEAT IN MY TAHOE STARTED TO SLIDE ON ITS TRACK ABOUT 2 TO 3 INCHES, BACK AND FORTH. THEN ABOUT 4 MONTHS LATER THE SAME THING HAPPENED WITH THE DRIVERS SEAT. THE SEAT SLIDES BACK AND FORTH ABOUT 4 INCHES. THIS IS VERY HAZARDOUS WHEN DRIVING, BECAUSE WHEN YOU ACCELERATE THE SEAT SLIDES BACK WITH A BANG, AND IF YOU COME TO A QUICK STOP, THE SEATS SLING YOU FORWARD. I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP WHICH TOLD ME TO CONTACT CHEVROLET CUSTOMER CARE. I EXPLAINED TO THE I FEEL THIS IS A DEFECT IN THE WAY THEY ASSEMBLED THE SEATS. IF IT HAPPENED IN JUST ONE SEAT I WOULD AGREE, IT IS NOT A DEFECT, BUT THIS HAS GRADUALLY HAPPENED TO BOTH SEATS. AND THERE ARE OTHER SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ON THIS WEBSITE. THE DEALERSHIP DENIES THIS IS A DEFECT, AND THEREFORE CHEVROLET IS DENYING THIS IS A DEFECT. I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY ADDITIONAL ASSISTANCE WITH THIS PROBLEM. *JB
I HAVE A 2000 CHEVY TAHOE. RECENTLY THE REAR WINDOW GLASS HINGE IN THE LIFTGATE FAILED. THE GLUE THAT CONNECTS THE GLASS TO THE HINGE FAILED AND NOW THE REAR WINDOW IS BEING HELD IN PLACE BY ONLY THE LATCH AND THE OTHER HINGE. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. IF THE GLASS WERE TO FALL OUT IN THE ROAD IT WOULD BE A MAJOR HAZARD TO OTHER MOTORISTS. THIS HINGE HAS FAILED UNDER NORMAL USE CONDITIONS AND WAS IN NO WAY ABUSED. I JUST CALLED MY LOCAL DEALER, COX CHEVROLET IN BRADENTON, FL AND THEY INFORMED ME IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND THE COST OF A NEW ONE IS OVER $1,000. THIS IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. I NOTICED OTHER POSTS ON THE INTERNET BE PERSONS WHO HAD THE SAME FAILURE AND DID NOT HAVE THE PROBLEM CORRECTED BY GENERAL MOTORS. NO MENTION WAS MADE OF THE POSSIBLE RECALL. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO ART MOEHN CHEVROLET IN JACKSON, MICHIGAN ON APRIL 7, 2006. THE PROBLEM WAS REPAIRED AT A COST TO ME OF $241.60. I DID RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET ABOUT THE ABS PROBLEM AND LOCATED A RECALL FOR 1999-2002 GM TRUCKS (SEE NHSTA RECALL CAMPAIGN NUMBER 05V37900). I CONTACTED THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT MY VIN # WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. THE BRAKE WORK DONE ON MY 2000 TAHOE IS THE EXACT REPAIR SENT TO CHEVY DEALERS BY GM FOR THE RECALLED VEHICLES (SEE GM BULLETIN # 05068B). WHEN I CALLED CHEVROLET TO GET THIS FIXED ON MY VEHICLE, BECAUSE I WAS HAVING THE SAME TROUBLE WITH THE ANTILOCK BRAKES, THEY INFORMED ME THIS RECALL DID NOT INCLUDE THE STATE OF UTAH. MY ANTILOCK BRAKES ACTIVATE QUITE OFTEN AT LOW SPEEDS AND CAUSE ME TO SKID, WHICH COULD VERY EASILY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT, BUT HAS NOT YET TO DATE. THIS RECALL WILL BE LAUNCHED IN THE "SALT BELT" STATES OF..." AND EXCLUDES MN AND WI. THIS IS DUE TO FEWER COMPLAINTS. THIS IS IRRELEVANT SINCE THE SAFETY CONSEQUENCE IS"THIS CAN CAUSE INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCE DURING LOW-SPEED BRAKING APPLICATIONS, WHICH COULD RESULT IN CRASH." I HAVE NOT BEEN GIVEN A VALID REASON WHY I AM SAFE FROM THIS ISSUE BECAUSE I LIVE IN MINNESOTA AND USE MORE SALT THAN 50% OF THE OTHER STATES ON THE LIST.
EXITING FREEWAY BRAKES WERE APPLIED AT A SLOW SPEED , BRAKE PEDAL PUSHED BACK ON MY FOOT AND VEHICLE DID NOT STOP AS IF I DIDN'T HAVE ANY BRAKES. HAD TO TAKE MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE AND PUMP THEM. I WAS VERY FORTUNATE THAT THERE WAS NO ONE (CAR OR PERSON) AHEAD OF ME. THESE WERE ABS BRAKES AND AT SLOW SPEEDS THEY FAIL. ACCORDING TO A NEW MEDIA THERE IS NO RECALL ON MY VEHICLE (2000 TAHOE) BECAUSE WE DO NOT LIVE IN RUST OR SALT BELT. OUR AREA DOES HAVE SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF RAIN AND SNOW AND USE OF SALT ON THE ROADS TO CAUSE PROBLEMS WITH THESE BRAKES.
