DT: 2002 CHEVROLET TAHOE. HAVING PROBLEM WITH THE ABS SYSTEM. IT HAPPENED THREE TIMES. THE LAST TIME IT HAPPENED ON APRIL 15, 2005 CAROLINE WAS COMING OFF RAMP AT 10 MPH THERE WAS WATER DRAINING OFF SIDE, THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHT, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY DOWN, AND THE CAR DID NOT STOP. THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER ON APRIL 18,2005, AND THE DEALER STATED THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE ABS SYSTEM. *AK DRIVER'S FRONT DOOR SEEMS TO FILL WITH WATER. NO WATER FOUND IN DOOR. DOOR IS DESIGNED TO ALLOW WATER TO GO IN DOOR AND DRAIN OUT BOTTOM. IDLE IS ROUGH. DEALER LET VEHICLE IDLE IN STALL FOR APPROXIMATELY 30 MINUTES WITH NO ROUGH IDLE NOTED. *TT
DT: THE 2002 TAHOE ABS DEFECT IN THEM. CALLED GM THEY ARE NOT GOING TO WARRANTY THE VEHICLES IN NEW HAMPSHIRE, BECAUSE THEY HAVE NOT RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER. THERE IS NO RECALL IN NEW HAMPSHIRE, BECAUSE THEY ARE RECALL THE ONES CANADA. THE BRAKES AT A SLOW SPEED ARE ACTIVATING, AND TOOK TO A GM DEALER AND GM WILL NOT REIMBURSE. TESTING AND FOUND THE ABS SENSORS CORRODED AND GAP SPREAD, PER GM TECH AT DEALERSHIP. THE CONSUMER HAS CORRECTED THE PROBLEM AT OWN EXPENSE AND WANTS REIMBURSMENT!! *NM
MY WIFE AND I OWN A 2002 CHEVROLET TAHOE. ON APRIL 9, 2005 MY WIFE AND YOUNG DAUGHTER WERE APPROACHING A STOP SIGN IN NORTH KNOXVILLE, TENNESSEE. MY WIFE APPLIED THE BRAKES AT A SPEED OF APPROXIMATELY 10 -15 MPH. INITIALLY, SHE FELT PRESSURE IN THE BRAKE PEDAL THEN THE PEDAL COMPLETELY DEPRESSED TO THE FLOOR, ABSENT OF ALL PRESSURE. AS A RESULT OF THE BRAKE FAILURE SHE REAR-ENDED THE CAR IN FRONT OF HER WHICH IN TURN ROLLED INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OF THEM (A TOTAL OF 3 VEHICLES WERE INVOLVED). THE POLICE OFFICER THAT WORKED THE ACCIDENT CHECKED THE BRAKES AND IMMEDIATELY HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED DUE TO INOPERABLE BRAKES. AS A RESULT MY WIFE WAS NOT CITED IN THE ACCIDENT. DAMAGE WAS MINIMUM TO THE OTHER 2 CARS, HOWEVER REPAIR COSTS TO OUR TAHOE WAS APPROXIMATELY $4300. ONE OF THE OTHER DRIVERS COMPLAINED OF A HURT KNEE/LEG AND ANOTHER DRIVER COMPLAINED OF AN INJURED BACK. MY WIFE AND DAUGHTER EXPERIENCED NO INJURIES. THE EXTENT OF THE OTHER TWO INJURIES ARE UNKNOWN. THE DEALER INSPECTED THE BRAKES AND INDICATED THAT THEY WERE IN ACCEPTABLE CONDITION AND REPORTED THERE WERE NO REPAIRS NECESSARY. I HAVE DRIVEN THE VEHICLE THE PAST 2 WEEKS AND THEY DO APPEAR TO BE OPERATING PROPERLY. HOWEVER, I HAVE SCHEDULED TO HAVE THE BRAKE SYSTEM INSPECTED BY AN INDEPENDENT DEALER THIS WEEK. I READ A STORY ON FOX NEWS INDICATING GM WAS UNDER INVESTIGATION FOR BRAKE FAILURES AT LOW SPEEDS AND I WANTED TO SUBMIT MY CLAIM FOR CONSIDERATION AS OUR SITUATION APPEARS TO BE SIMILAR TO PREVIOUS INCIDENTS.
VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR A CLICKING NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT WHEN MAKING TURNS. RESULTS SHOWED THAT THE CROSS MEMBER THAT HOLDS THE ENGINE FROM FRAME TO FRAME NEED TO BE REPLACED. ALSO, THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT, WHICH WAS MAKING THE STEERING LOOSE, AND UNABLE TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE.*AK
DT: THE ABS LIGHT KEPT COMING ON. COULD HEAR CLICKING IN THE BRAKES. CONTACTED THE DEALER, THEY SAID TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN. TOOK THE VEHICLE TO DEALER, AND THEY FIXED THE VEHICLE, BUT HAD TO PAY OUT OF POCKET. TOOK THE VEHICLE IN ON MARCH 30, 2005. THEY REPLACED THE NUMBER TWO INJECTOR. *AK
BRAKES FADED AND PULSATED, WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, DID NOT OCCUR EVERYTIME, MAINLY SLOWER SPEEDS. BRAKES STEADILY GOT WORSE. FIRST TIME IT OCCURRED HAD TO TURN TO AVOID STRIKING CAR IN FRONT. FRONT WHEEL HUBS AND BEARINGS ALONG WITH RUSTED BRAKE ROTORS AND BRAKE PADS WERE REPLACED. BRAKE PADS ONLY MAKING CONTACT WITH LESS THAN ONE INCH OF ROTOR
FRONT DIFFERENTIAL IS MAKING NOISE. MECHANIC STATES THAT IT MAY LOCK UP UNEXPECTEDLY AND CAUSE A CRASH. DEALER STATES THEY HAVE HAD 4 SIMILAR VEHICLES IN FOR THIS PROBLEM AND STATES IT IS DUE TO FACTORY ERROR.*AK
THE ABS ACTIVATES AT SLOW SPEEDS(ANYTHING BELOW 10 MPH) WHETHER YOU ARE GOING FORWARD OR REVERSE. IT CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO TRAVEL LONGER DISTANCES IN ORDER TO STOP, NOT MENTIONING SCAREING THE DEVIL OUT OF THE DRIVER. I HAVE HAD THE BRAKE PADS REPLACED AND IT SEEMS TO DO IT MORE OFTEN.
CHEVROLET TAHOE 2002, TRANSMISSION FAILURE. *BF THE CONSUMER PURCHASED A VEHICLE THAT ONCE HAD A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM, THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEM HAD BEEN FULLY CORRECTED. THE CONSUMER THEN FOUND OUT THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS NEVER FIXED AND THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP FOR A TOTAL OF 3 TIMES. NOT ONLY WAS THE VEHICLE SLIPPING, SLOW TO SHIFT AND EXHIBITING A NOISE WHEN SHIFTING FROM PARK TO DRIVE, THERE WERE OTHER PROBLEMS SUCH AS NOT BEING ABLE TO TURN THE KEY IN THE IGNITION, THE SEAT WARMED LIGHT ILLUMINATED WHEN THE BUTTON WAS PUSHED, THE SPEAKERS WERE CRACKING LOUDLY, THE A/C LIGHT CAME ON BY ITSELF, THE MOON ROOF RATTLED AND WAS LEAKING, THE CARGO POWER SWITCH DID LOCK THE DOORS WITHIN 5 SECONDS OF THE CARGO DOOR BEING CLOSED, THE HANDLE ON THE THIRD ROW SEAT FELL OFF, THE CIGARETTE LIGHTER WAS MISSING, AND THE RUBBER STRIPPING ON THE CARGO DOOR WAS LOOSE. *JB
THE AIR BAG SENSOR LIGHT STAYS ON . CONSUMER IS CONCERNED THAT THE AIR BAG WILL NOT DEPLOY UPON IMPACT. *AK
DT: CONSUMER SAYS THAT ABS LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON. WHEN THE CONSUMER APPLIES THE BRAKES, HE SAYS THAT THE VEHICLE PULLS TO THE RIGHT. CONSUMER WENT TO DEALER AND THEY SAID THAT IF HE CONTINUES TO DRIVE VEHICLE, IT WILL EVENTUALLY LOCK UP. CONSUMER ASKED ABOUT A RECALL AND DEALER SAID THAT THERE IS SOME KIND OF RECALL IN THE NORTH PART OF THE NATION, BUT HIS VEHICLE IS NOT INCLUDED. CONSUMER WANTS HIS VEHICLE TO BE INCLUDE IN THE RECALL TO GET IT FIXED. CONSUMER WANTS TO REIMBURSED IN FULL FOR COSTS OF FIXING PROBLEM.*AK *JB
WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH UP A HILL THE PLANETARY GEAR FAILED. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE PRODUCED A LOUD POP AND GRINDING NOISE FROM THE TRANSMISSION. THE CONSUMER STATES THE GEAR WILL NO LONGER ENGAGE INTO REVERSE. PLEASE PROVIDE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. *JB
CONSUMER COMPLAINED ABOUT A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. CONSUMER HAD TRANSMISSION REPLACED ON 3 SEPARATE OCCASIONS. CONSUMER CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER, WHO OFFERED A GMC LOYALTY CERTIFICATE IN THE AMOUNT 0FF $1000.00 TOWARDS A NEW VEHICLE PURCHASE. *AK THE CONSUMER STATED THAT HER TRANSMISSION WAS REMOVED 6 TIMES AND REPLACED 3 TIMES. THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPED AND THE VEHICLE STOPPED. GM WAS UNCOOPERATIVE TO RESOLVING THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. *TC
I RECENTLY TOOK MY 2002 CHEVY TAHOE IN TO THE DEALER FOR A LONG OVER DUE REPAIR. AFTER DESCRIBING MY PROBLEM TO THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN (A CLUNK SOUND AND FEEL THROUGH THE STEERING WHEEL WHICH I HAD FIRST NOTICED AT ABOUT 20K MILES), HE TOLD ME THE PROBLEM WAS A "COMMON OCCURRENCE" IN THE YEAR/MODEL AND THAT IT WAS "DUE TO POOR LUBRICATION/DESIGN" WITH THE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT OF THE STEERING COLUMN. HE SHAFT WOULD COST $140 PLUS ONE HOUR LABOR.... HOWEVER; IT IS ON A LONG BACK ORDER. SEEMS STRANGE THAT AN ITEM, WHICH IS A "COMMON OCCURRENCE" AND THE ITEM IS BACK ORDERED (MUST BE A LOT OF REPLACING GOING ON) WOULD NOT BE SUBJECT TO A RECALL FOR A FREE REPLACEMENT. I PAID TOP DOLLAR FOR THIS VEHICLE AND FOR SUCH A STANDARD PIECE OF EQUIPMENT TO BE NEEDED TO BE REPLACE AT THIS LOW OF MILEAGE SEEMS A BIT OUT OF THE NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. AFTER REVIEWING MANY SITES ON THE INTERNET, IT SEEMS THIS OCCURANCE IS COMMON ENOUGH THAT IT SHOULD BE A RECALL. WALTER GOODALL. *AK
DURING OWNER PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE (TIRE ROTATION AND FRONT END GREASE) UPPER CONTROL ARM BALL JOINT RUBBER BOOT WAS FOUND RIPPED AND PLAY WAS NOTED IN DRIVER FRONT WHEEL HUB. UPON TIRE ROTATION WITH TIRE OFF THE GROUND AUDIBLE GRINDING NOISE COULD BE HEARD FROM WHEEL BEARINGS. DURING INSPECTION OF PASSANGER FRONT WHEEL THE SAME AUDIBLE GRINDING WAS NOTED FROM THE WHEEL BEARINGS. DEALER REPLACED BOTH FRONT HUBS AND UPPERCONTROL ARM UNDER WARRANTY.
WENT TO START CAR SO I COULD PICK DAUGHTER UP FROM A BASKETBALL GAME (11:30 P.M. ON A FRIDAY NIGHT) AND THE TRUCK WOULD NOT START. IT WOULD TURN BUT GOT NO FIRE TO IT. THE FOLLOWING MORNING IT DID THE SAME THING TO INCLUDE THE MONDAY MORNING. HAD IT TOWED TO DEALER, IT STARTED ON THE FIRST TRY WHEN THE TOW TRUCK LET IT DOWN. THEY CHECK IT OUT, TOLD ME IT WAS MY FUEL PUMP. CHARGED ME $645. THE FOLLOWING WEEK (SUNDAY, THE SAME THING OCCURED AGAIN AND I TOOK IT TO ANOTHER DEALER ON MONDAY AND THEY CHECKED IT OUT, PUT IT ON THE MACHINE AND NO PROBLEM WAS NOTED BY THE MACHINE. SERVICE MANAGER SUGGESTED THAT IT COULD BE THE SENSORS BECAUSE ABOUT EVERY 300 MILES OR FULL TANK OF GAS, IT HAS STARTED DOING THIS. SUGGESTED I BRING IT IN NEXT TIME WHEN IT DOES NOT START TO SEE IF THEY CAN DETECT THE PROBLEM. CHRISTMAS DAY, IT DID NOT START AS WE WERE ON OUR WAY OUT OF TOWN FOR A FAMILY CHRISTMAS IN ANOTHER STATE. IT DID START THE NEXT DAY (SUNDAY) AND WAS FINE FOR THE WEEK UNTIL TODAY (NEW YEAR'S EVE). AGAIN, HAD IT TOWED TO THE LAST DEALER AND THEY CHECKED IT. IT DID NOT START THE FIRST TIME BUT IT DID THE SECOND TRY. ASKED IF I PUMPED THE GAS WHILE TRYING TO START IT. I DID NOT AND THEY CHECKED THE VEHICLE OUT AND AGAIN PUT IT ON THE MACHINE AND IT DID NOT DETECT ANYTHING WRONG. THEY ASKED THAT I MAKE AN APPT. FOR THURSDAY SO THEY KEEP IT OVER NIGHT AND SEE IF IT WILL START FOR THEM. ALL DEALERS WERE CHEVROLET DEALERS. NO ADDITONAL PARTS WERE PLACED ON TEH VEHICLE. HAVE STEADY OIL CHANGES, TIRE ROTATIONS AND ANY AND ALL SERVICES DONE IN A TIMELY MANNER. SINCE DEC 6 (FIRST INCIDENT) IT HAS NOT CRANKED ON ME 3 SEPARATE TIMES.*AK
RECENTLY I NOTED A GRINDING NOISE IN THE REAR END OF MY TAHOE. A REPAIR SHOP SHOWED ME THE "BACK PLATES" ON THE REAR WHEELS. THEY WERE COMPLETELY CORRODED TO THE POINT THAT PIECES WERE FALLING OFF THE PLATES. I WAS INFORMED THAT THIS WOULD NOT AFFECT MY BRAKING BUT COULD LEAD TO THE INABILITY TO USE MY EMERGENCY BRAKE. THE MANAGER SAID HE HAD NEVER SEEN ANYTHING THIS BAD. A TECHNICIAN NEARBY SPOKE UP AND SIAD HE SAW A SET ON A CHEVY TRUCK RECENTLY. I AM SUBMITTING THIS MATERIAL FOR ONLY ONE PURPOSE. I SUSPECT THERE MAY BE USE OF SUBSTANDARD, FAULTY MATERIAL THAT IS NOT RESISTANT TO CORROSION BEING USED IN AT LEAST THE CHEVROLET LINE OF TRUCKS. THIS COULD RESULT IN FAILIRUE OF THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND POTENTIAL LOSS OF LIFE. I INTEND TO GET MINE REPAIRED BUT HOW MANY COULD BE OUT THERE UNDIAGNOSED? *AK
WHEN MAKING TURNS FROM 5 MPH OR MORE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED SEVERE VIBRATION, AND IT CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO JERK AND THUMP INTERMITTENTLY. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO TWO SEPARATE DEALERS. FIRST DEALER WAS UNABLE TO LOCATE THE PROBLEM, AND THE SECOND DEALER DETERMINED THAT THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.*AK THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THE SHAFT HAS NOT BEEN REPLACED BECAUSE IT IS ON BACK ORDER. *TC
VEHICLE TRACTION SEEMS TO BE SLIPPING WHEN TURNING RIGHT OR LEFT. *AK
EMERGENCY BRAKE FAILED. EMERGENCY BRAKE IS SELDOM USED BUT WAS IN WORKING ORDER. ATTEMPTED TO HAVE VEHICLE INSPECTED AND WAS INFORMED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE FAILED TO HOLD CAR. THIS SAME VEHICLE PASSED INSPECTION THE PRIOR YEAR. THERE WAS A COST OF OVER $400.00 TO REPAIR THIS. I WAS INFORMED BY THE REPAIR FACILITY THAT THIS WAS COMMON IN THIS TYPE OF VEHICLE.*AK
BATTERY DIED, REPLACED. BATTERY LIGHTS COMING ON WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE, UNABLE TO START VEHICLE, VEHICLE STALLING. UNABLE TO OPERATE VEHICLE DUE TO LOSS OF POWER. THIS HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH IN THE RAIN. BARELY ABLE TO PULL VEHICLE OFF ROADWAY. NO POWER AT ALL INCLUDING LIGHTS AND HAZARD LIGHTS. TOOK TO CHEVROLET DEALER - FOUND NO PROBLEM, NOTHING DONE TO CORRECT. WAS TOLD THAT AFTER MARKET ALARM SYSTEM (INSTALLED AT CHEVROLET DEALER) COULD BE THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. TOOK TO AUDIO INSTALLER AND HAD ALARM REMOVED. WAS TOLD BY DIFFERENT CHEVY DEALER THAT THEY HAD THE SAME PROBLEM RIGHT NOW WITH A TAHOE IN THEIR SHOP. THEY REMOVED ALARM AND HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS SINCE (2 DAYS). WOULD NEED TO DRIVE MY VEHICLE TO SEE IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN. THIS IS A SEVERE SAFETY ISSUE AS IT COULD EASILY RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE ONCOMING VEHICLES CAN NOT SEE YOU WITHOUT HAZARD LIGHTS. OLD PART IS AVAILABLE. I HAVE KEPT THE ALARM SYSTEM IF NEEDED TO REVIEW.*AK
FUEL PUMP FAILURE ON 2002 TAHOE VEHICLE. *BF THE VEHICLE WOULD LOSE POWER AT ANY SPEED WITH NO WARNING. *SC
I HAVE THE SAME ISSUE LISTED CAMPAIGN ID 05V155000 ON A 2002 TAHOE. I SPOKE WITH CHRIS LASH, SAFETY DEFECTS ENGINEER WITH YOU LAST YEAR IN NOVEMBER. TODAY, I SEE GM HAS RECALLED SEVERAL VEHICLES ABOUT THIS PROBLEM BUT I AM NOT INCLUDED ON THIS LIST ALTHOUGH I HAVE HAD THE EXACT SAME ISSUE WITH THE FUEL PUMP FAILURE. MY VIN IS [XXX]. PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT I CAN DO TO ASSIST IN THIS EFFORT. DT: THE CONSUMER EXPERIENCED THUMPING AND TORSION WITHIN THE STEERING WHEEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO REMEDIED THIS CONDITION BY LUBRICATION. THE PROBLEM SOON RETURNED, AND THE DEALER REPLACED THE STEERING COLUMN. HOWEVER THE PROBLEM RECURRED AND THE DEALER REPLACED THE ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN. HE CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER, AND THEY STATED THEY WOULD NOT ACCEPT ANY FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY NOW OR IN THE FUTURE. THERE HAVE BEEN NO FURTHER REPAIRS AT THIS TIME. *AK UPDATED 11/16/05. *JB
VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND MECHANIC REPAIRED THE FUEL PUMP. *AK
THE CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO PLACE THE VEHICLE IN REVERSE. THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT THE TRANSMISSION FAILED. *JB
WE PURCHASED A 2002 CHEV TAHOE NEW IN MARCH 2002. THIS VEHICLE JUST ROLLED OVER THE 30,000 MILE MARK. WITHIN THE 30 MONTHS THAT WE HAVE OWNED THIS VEHICLE, THE FUEL PUMP HAD TO BE REPLACED 3 TIMES, THE FIRST ONE BEING REPLACED AT 12,000 MILES. IN ADDITION, THE FUEL GAUGE SENSOR AND THE AIR CONDITIONER COMPRESSOR HAVE HAD TO BE REPLACED. APPROXIMATELY 6 WEEKS AGO, WHILE ON VACATION, THE TAHOE DIED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. WE WERE 3 HOURS FROM HOME, SO WE HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP AND RENT AN AUTOMOBILE TO CONTINUE ON OUR TRIP. THE NEXT DAY WE HAD TO GO BACK TO THIS DEALERSHIP TO PICK UP THE TAHOE. WE WERE TOLD THAT THE FUEL PUMP CONNECTOR WIRES HAD WORKED LOOSE. LAST WEEKEND, WHILE DRIVING AT 55 MPH, IT DIED AGAIN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. WE HAD IT TOWED TO OUR LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND HAVE HAD TO REPLACE YET ANOTHER FUEL PUMP. EVERY TIME THE FUEL PUMP WENT OUT, THE TAHOE WAS BEING DRIVEN IN TRAFFIC. TO HAVE A VEHICLE DIE SUDDENLY AT 55 MPH IN TRAFFIC IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. WE CONTACTED GM BACK IN MAY AFTER PUTTING OUR VEHICLE IN THE SHOP FOR A NEW AIR CONDITIONER COMPRESSOR. AFTER MANY LENGTHY DISCUSSIONS WITH A GM CUSTOMER REP, WE WERE GIVEN AN EXTENDED WARRANTY. WHILE WE APPRECIATE THE EXTENDED WARRANTY, THE PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN RESOLVED. APPARENTLY THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH OUR VEHICLE AND/OR THE FUEL PUMPS THEMSELVES THAT ARE CAUSING THIS REPEATED FAILURE. IT HAS BECOME A SAFETY ISSUE. NOW WE FEEL THAT WE HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO GET RID OF OUR VEHICLE. HOWEVER, BY TRADING IT IN, ALL WE'RE DOING IS PASSING THE PROBLEM ON TO THE NEXT UNLUCKY SOUL.
