NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
My 2015 Tahoe LTZ keeps displaying a " trailer service brake system" The vehicle has also cut off while driving and the radio screen and windows lock up unable to control. The vehicle will also not turn on until something about rolling the driver side window down and up to allow functionality. The battery has been replaced and have had the truck carefully electronically examined with not direct apparent faults. I'm told the wire harness between the body control modules is defective and or engineered of low quality with poor connections and wires. This is a critical unsafe hazard that needs immediate attention before someone gets hurt.
Difficult to brake at low speeds.
Front shocks failed 2 years ago. Rear shocks just failed last week. Both of these failures affect the vehicle handling. The vehicle was inspected and failures confirmed by an independent service center. Both front and rear shocks had to be replaced. The complexity of the parts and system make these repairs costly. It cost thousands of dollars for each repair. It is a $70K vehicle and was manufactured in 2015. These should not be failing so quickly. And the repair shop said this is a know issue with the Tahoe of those model years but there is not an active recall. Someone needs to investigate how many of these Tahoes have had to have the shocks replaced.
Loss of braking effort. Also described as a hard pedal, requiring increased effort to slow the vehicle.
Gas leak at line due to rubbing-FIRE HAZARD
On several occasions at various speeds, both driving straight and turning, my 2015 Chevy Tahoe has turned off. During higher speeds the SUV will turn back on, instantly, by itself but during lower speeds and turning the car has to be manual turned back on by switching into neutral, pressing the break, and pushing the start button. The most recent time this has happened, it was dark outside and I was turning. I lost everything including my head and tail lights so it was hard for oncoming traffic to see me. I also almost hit someone coming in the other lane because I was unable to fully turn due to the loss of power steering. After this happens, I get many warning/action required messages across the dashboard but no check engine light or code have come up. I will be taking it to the dealer but since it does not happen every time the care is driven, I can only hope they can experience what happens.
My taheo keeps giving a warning of Trailer Break System. That started going off out of no where the first time it start I was almost to where I was going so just turned vehicle off. It stated beeping and giving me the same warning have had my breaks changed thought it would fix the problem. It continues to beep every couple seconds and continues to say Trailer Break System. Then read the reason this continues to happen is Wire Harness is defective. It is a safety risk because it is very distracting with the alert chime for the driver
Service brake assist continues to come on. Brake is hard to push.
Fuel line at tip of gas tank is leaking. I see dozens of complaints online for others who say gas line to close to chassis, plastic and rubbing and causing a leak. I see some caused fires?
The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that on multiple occasions, the brakes failed to operate as needed while depressing the brake pedal. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic where the brake pads were replaced; however, the failure persisted, and the contact was referred to the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired or diagnosed. Upon investigation, the contact linked the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V645000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 147,000.
Anda manejando cuando empezó a salir mucho humo por el tablero y la troca ya no respodia no podia ya aselerar y el volante se puso duro me sali de la carretera marqué al sitio de emergencia por ayuda pero la tahoe se quemo muy rápido
Service trailer brake system alarm Constantly going off causing a distraction to the point the Tahoe is unsafe to drive.
My magna ride suspension has completely gone out. The front and rear are sagging with no suspension travel at all. According to Google, every Chevrolet and GMC with this suspension has the same issue. Cost $3000 to repair.
I repeatedly get message to service trailer broke system. I cannot drive without the constant dinging and the message popping up on the dash. Can I even monitor my speed because the message is constantly popping up. Oh Papa that my trailer bikes, don’t seem to be working. This could be very dangerous.
Keep getting a message saying TRAILER SYSTEM ISSUE.Has occurred over the past few years but recently has shown up more than once about every day.I don’t have a picture at this time but please help with resolving this issue it is very annoying
The 2015 Tahoe LZ is experiencing harsh ride due to the failure of the factory Air Ride system. This may have been a good idea, but it will not stand up under normal road conditions. There is no recall for this problem. Shocks leak or are bound up (frozen in place) causing bumps to be transmitted to the vehicle body. I have changed tires and the problem is still there. I have driven GM vehicles all my life (70+years) and this is the most trouble I have ever experienced with suspension components of all the GM vehicles I've owned, starting with a 1955 vehicle. A local dealer priced the repair at around $5000.00. I drove a 1983 Suburban for over 300,000 miles and never had any suspension problems, (except for normal brake wear). There seems to be a lot of owners of this vintage vehicle that have experienced this problem. Whether this is a computer problem or poor workmanship, General Motors needs to REPAIR their self-inflected problem. I worked as a line mechanic for a GM dealership in the early 80's. We never had this kind of problems before computers started to be installed on vehicles.
My truck is getting "Service Trailer Brake System". The warning continues to pop up causing a safety hazard.
Complete loss of electronic power steering. My children safety along with my own was put at risk. This problem was supposedly repaired by Courtesy Chevrolet of Ruston,LA July 2021.
Starting on August 13, 2022, my 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe exhibited a harder than normal start condition prior to a drive of approximately 80 miles home from visiting a relative. The car drove normally on that trip. After that return home I parked the subject vehicle in the garage and emptied it of my belongings. I noticed a fairly strong gasoline smell and inquired with my wife if perhaps she had re-fueled our other vehicle and experienced any over fill. Shed said no, so I left the garage open to see if it would air out of the fuel smell. It did through the course of the afternoon so I closed the garage that evening. The next morning (August 14, 2022) we had an event to get to in the morning and were planning to take the subject vehicle. The vehicle again had a hard start issue and within 10 seconds of starting I could smell fuel while inside the vehicle with the windows up. I immediately stopped the ignition and looking under the subject vehicle. I saw gas flowing down the side of the fuel tank from above and dripping on the floor at a rapids rate of 2-3 drops per second. This continued for about 5-10 minutes gradually slowing down since the the ignition had been shut off and as the fuel pressure in the system was reduced. By the end there was a puddle of fuel about 1 ft in diameter on my garage floor under the vehicle. From that point and after any strong gasoline vapor smell had subsided, I decided the vehicle needed to be moved from the garage and parked on the street. I parked it on the street and decided I would take it to Marty Feldman Chevrolet immediately early in the morning of August 15, 2022, while roads were less busy. There was no warning light or indication prior to the leak. In some quick research, I found several concerns related to fuel line abrasion and fuel pump leaks/failures. Marty Feldman Chevrolet diagnosis/repair costs are documented in this complaint. Components are available for inspection.
When the vehicle idles for long periods of time in Park or Drive (standing traffic or sub-5mph traffic) the brakes provide no stopping power. Upong shifting into N, and speeding up idle over 2000 rpm for at least 20 seconds, the "braking/stopping power" goes back to normal. Not being a mechanic, but car familiar, it's as if the solenoid at long idles does not provide adequate assist power to effectively stop the vehicle. This has caused problems in long traffic lines on 95 south of DC heading to Richmond when traffic begins moving and suddenly slows there is no braking power unless shifting into idle and rev. It also commonly occurs in snowy traffic when things are moving slow. It also occurs in summer idle situations in parking lots if the car is left running and then attempting to pull away there is no braking power. Frontal collisions are a risk, and generally low speed runs ins. Ive had this checked by Chevy dealer/service shops twice and they claim it is not reproducable. There are no warning lights and all recalls have been serviced. This issue occurs at numerous times since owning the vehicle.
Six days ago my 2015 Chevy Tahoe had a sudden loss of power steering assist while driving down the road after having to come to a sudden stop. The sudden loss and stop required me to jar to the R side of the road. Later in the evening while driving home from work, suddenly my power steering began to work again - causing the steering wheel to have a lot of "play" in the turning of the wheel. This sudden loss and sudden return of power steering has increased since the first incident and happens more often than not. Every time the loss or return happen to the steering, I feel like I lose control of the vehicle to an extent depending on the speed of the vehicle. I am a single mom with two little children who are constantly with me in our vehicle which concerns me for all of our safety. I have done my due diligence on contacting the local Chevy dealership, GM and even the better business bureau due to not being able to get to the bottom of this and continuously being told there's no recall connected to my VIN. There was a recall previously for the Power Steering Assist Motor Kit in 2015 Chevy Tahoes. According to GM which I contacted today, my vehicle was a part of this recall and the assist motor kid was "fixed" which is why there are no current recalls on my VIN. We were told there was a 12 thousand mile warranty that was placed on this new Assist motor kit however, the same issue is now happening again. In the initial recall, chevy was told that dealers are to replace power steering assist motor kit due to increased risk of crash. Dealers are to service all vehicles subject to the recall at no charge to customers, regardless of mileage, age of vehicle or ownership from this time forward. The fact that I am having the same issue with the assist motor after its already been "replaced" is quite concerning for me, my children and quite frankly other bystanders or other drivers with the increased risk of an MVA. I had an auto body shop diagnose the issue with the same resu
Fuel supply line coming out of gas tank is leaking. Looked up on internet and found this to be a very common occurrence, with several pictures of Tahoe's sitting on the side of the road on fire. This is such a common issue on 2015 models that GM should recall and fix. We can't wait for a recall, I know that takes a lot of time. The Tahoe is my wife's ability to get to work and home, as she is the breadwinner in our family, I am on SSDI for total disability. We need someone or some organization to step up and assist us in getting this problem fixed and since it is a design flaw resulting in a serious safety issue, GM should be held responsible for the repair. Local mechanic found the problem after wife smelled strong odor of gasoline in garage where vehicle is parked, which happens to be directly below our bedroom, thus if a fire started in garage, with my health and mobility problems, we might not be able to escape. This is a serious problem, common with this model and I'm sure you've heard about it several times, please help us.
While driving the children to school making a Right turn in the school grounds. The Tahoe completely shut down and restarted. In the 10 seconds it was down I was unable to steer the vehicle and there was absolutely no power. When the vehicle restarted itself the "service trailer brake system", "Service stabilitrac" message come over the display. I immediately took it to the Sun Auto who recently replaced the AC compressor, they kept the vehicle for one day and part of another and they could not find any issues. It seems as if there is battery drainage and this has been inspected by North Side Chevrolet and they have been There are no service indicators and or messages. This is the second time it has done this to me and I am concerned for one my life, the five year old twins I drive everyday and any other people that could potentially be harmed by such a terrifying shut down. Imagine if I am on the highway driving to my job at the hospital and this happens.
Fuel smell outside of the vehicle. About 3 months ago one part was replaced. Now the smell is back. Vehicle is at the mechanic so they can investigate further.
I purchased this 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe in 2017. It was a certified pre owned vehicle from a dealership. The vehicle continues to have the warning message of “service trailer brake system”
Brake Petal is hard and you have to punch very hard to stop at slow speed as in a parking lot or traffic. It will scare you because the vehicle doesn’t want to stop when moving at slow speed. Unsure if it does it in reverse or not.
Vehicle was struck from behind at nearly 75 mph, no air bags went off.
Air ride suspension going out, shocks leaking. Do not have stability of car.
Power steering assist, ABS and skid control failed all at once during travel. Also emergency brake light lit up along with these other warnings. Hard to steer. The vehicle has not yet been inspected. Scheduling that now. All dash warning lights lit up along with warning messages just as the failures occurred. Upon restarting the vehicle the failures reset to normal operation. NOTE: The vehicle had been running and idling in very hot temps ~101
While driving down the road at random occasions the “service trailer brake system” warning will alert us by dinging multiple time. This continues to happen more and more frequently. It will ding and alert us over and over again. The longest it has occurred was for about an hour straight. I took a couple videos/videos of this happening. After doing some research online every article I found stated that it is a wiring harness issue. It was recommended that we report this to NHTSA. I should add that we are not and have not every pulled a trailer.
The pressure fuel line on top of the gas tank started leaking while driving and caused large puddles of gas under the car. Parked vehicle and unable to drive it due to gas leaking near exhaust.
I purchased this vehicle a few weeks ago. I was told by the Salesman that everything worked in the car. I test drove it and the lane departure warning was working so I assumed the forward collision would be working. In real life driving, I have nearly run in to numerous cars as the forward collision does not work. In one instance, someone slammed on their breaks, my collision didn't alert me, thankfully I saw it, but I had to swerve off the road to keep from hitting them. In addition, the cooling seats work, but the heated seats do not work on either side of the front seats. Lastly, I have discovered that my Navigation system does not work. I can't get it to change to my current location and the GPS is X'd out. This is what I have so far, but sadly, I feel more things are going to happen with this vehicle. I am working with the dealership on the forward collision and heated seats, but don't know if I will get anywhere with them. They have said they will not fix the Navigation system, which is affected by the CAL (calibration) error message on my screen.
The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated while attempting to park the vehicle, the brake pedal was difficult to depress and failed to respond. To avoid crashing into the vehicle parked in front of her she crashed into the curb. There were no injuries. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V645000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.
Fuel is leaking from gas tank area. Major fire hazard. I am told this is due to a faulty fuel line securing issue which allows the fuel line to rub cuasing a leak and major fire hazard.
fuel line leak above the gas tank causing fuel to spray under the rig. Big fire hazard
The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact was attempting to start the vehicle, but the vehicle intermittently stalled, and the contact smelled and abnormal fuel odor inside the vehicle. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact exited the vehicle and noticed a puddle of fuel underneath the fuel tank. The contact towed the vehicle to a used dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the fuel tank to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact towed the vehicle to the independent mechanic and had the fuel tank was replaced. The vehicle was repaired but continued to experience the failure. The contact took the vehicle to another independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed with needing the fuel lines to be replaced again. The vehicle was repaired but continued to experience the failure. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 148,000.
The hood paint and roof paint are fading much faster then the rest of the car. I have seen this on alot of 2015 Black Tahoes. The dealer has confirmed this on black 2015 Tahoes. It is available for inspection when requested.
Technical Service Bulletin 17-NA-304 1..6 should be a recall if it involves a fuel leak. My vehicle has experienced this issue, and fuel is actively leaking (right next to the exhaust). With 2 small kids in the car everyday, and Chevy (and the NHTSA) knowing this since September, 2017, how is this not something that a consumer is notified about, and fixed by the manufacturer immediately? I would appreciate if someone could contact me to talk me through this not being a recall.
I’m pretty sure it’s the vacuum for the breaks because when I park if I put my foot on the brake multiple times it gets stiff solid. But once I put the rpm’s up the brakes get better. I almost hit a parked car because of this because I couldn’t stop
Trailer brake system chime goes off constantly. Chevy refuses to fix the defective wire harness. It is distracting and I have no idea if my trailer brakes would properly function if i were to tow. We ranch, but have avoided using my vehicle for this reason. This has happened continuously since 2019.
The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated while driving on the highway at an undisclosed speed, the trailer braking system warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the failure recurred several times. The vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed or repaired. Neither the manufacturer nor the dealer had been notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 123,917.
The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated while driving approximately 65 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power. The contact stated that he depressed the accelerator pedal however, the vehicle failed to respond. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact pulled safely off the highway and had the vehicle towed to an independent mechanic. The vehicle was diagnosed and it was determined that the transmission control module and several other power train components needed to be replaced. The independent mechanic related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V374000 (Power Train). The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 119,300.
design flaw when fuel line rubs against the tank or frame and causes a hole in the line, resulting in fuel spraying everywhere.
Have to researching online it is a very very common issue with the 2015 Tahoes and up. The radio/display screen constantly starts going haywire and scanning through stations changing stations as well as the screen on my gauge cluster which is going to end up causing an accident constantly trying to stop it from scanning and changing stations. It's like the whole screen has a mind of its own
I was driving down the road at 65mph, when My transmission blew. I believe the correct term is that my torque converter went out. I basically came to a dead stop in traffic, endangering my life and my children's. My understanding is that this is a common issue with this type of transmission. Chevrolet should be ashamed of themselves for not recalling this item.
1.) The wire harness between the body control modules are failing. 2.) When I tow my boat I could loose braking at any time. Display of " service trailer brake system" overrides all other displays on console. Repetitive chiming noise is very distracting and irritating. 3.) Yes, I took it back in soon after i purchased it (a lot of money) and the Chevy rep said it probably was something to do with loose wires concerning the towing. I showed them a picture of the the warning display that I took immediately. They supposedly plugged in a diagnostic reader and said that since the code was no longer showing that they were unable to determine what precisely the issue was, but it was safe to drive. 4.) Component was not inspected by anyone. I was told that if it came on and I was in the area; to bring it in so that they can see the display. 5.) Yes there was a warning message that showed up multiple times. 1 or 2 weeks after being purchased on 3/11/22. I feel that the Chevy reps know of the issue ( bad wiring harness between 2 of the body control modules) and acted as if the had no clue of the picture of the warning display that I showed them and they were able to tell me it was safe to drive even though they said they didn't know what the issue was. ???? I like Chevy vehicles; it would be nice to see Chevy stand behind their product. This is the 2nd Tahoe that I've owned, standing behind your work keeps and promotes customers.
Airbag picture showed on dash. After several dealership appointments, the code B0014 04 was found. Driver seat airbag deployment exhibits high resistance due to faulty electrical jumper wire connections and may not deploy upon impact.
condenser went out mechanic stated there's alot of complains about same issue with the same year make and model of my truck
I purchased a Certified pre-owned Chevy Tahoe, in 2017, for the past year to as of 2/18/2022, the Service Trailer Brake has been chiming. It isn’t continuous majority of the time, but I know it isn’t right and often alarms me when it does chime. I do not tow trailers behind my vehicle at all. I drive to work and home, take kids to school and sporting events. .I would like to know if this has or when will this be recalled? Obviously something is setting it off??
