“Trailer Break System” warning keeps popping and makes it very difficult to drive safely!
On several occasions the following warnings will pop up. Service Stabilitrack, Tighen Gas cap, Service trailer brake system, Automatic collision prep unvailable, and the check engine light will come on. Then the dashboard lights will flicker on/off, the montior will turn black, the doors will unlock and lock. It has happened when I am going 70 MPH down the freeway. And on several occassions the car engine will turn off/stall as i am either pulling into an intersection, parking spot or coming to a stop. I will take it to the shop and have the check engine code scanned/turned off and it will be fine for a week and then start again
I have had my vehicle repaired and reprogrammed in May 2020 for the recall of increased brake effort and then in august of 2021 the brake booster repaired. It is Jan 2022 and I’m still having difficulty with my brakes almost rear ending or backing into vehicles when parking. This is unsafe. This is a known issue and needs to be resolved. It has been taking me so much effort to stop or it feels as the brakes are slipping not catching.
The service break trailer system warning keeps going off when I’m not towing anything. It’s to the point that in a 10 Minute drive it goes off about 10 times. I’ve been to numerous machanics and none of them are able to determine what is causing this issue
Recently I've noticed that when I try to accelerate or take off from stop it does not pick up speed as use to. My engine rpms rise but speed is getting less and less. I've also noticed my transmission temperature is staying between 190-200 degrees which gm has already had recalls over pertaining to this style transmission having issues due to high heat. Vehicle has always had maintenance kept up with and never abused. Have taken to local shop since warranty ran out several times for inspection of transmission well my complaints in regards and have fluid done. Recently I've noticed fluid is needing to be replaced more frequently due to losing viscosity from overheating and being burnt, has the familiar and similar smell of toast being burnt. This is a 2016 Tahoe ltz w just over 200k, yes in some ways a lot but considering the cost of vehicle new/age/synthetic fluids and everything it seems to me the transmission should last longer especially considering it's been maintained. These new vehicles are outrageous and the transmissions are very expensive as well, considering these same transmissions have had recalls from GM I'm a little aggravated and frustrated on how some can and can't. I'm familiar and aware they say it's per manufacturing plant and particular models but confused as to how if the transmission that has had recalls for overheating doesn't comply to all the transmissions that are same type, I think it's bogus n a way not to be responsible for accepting failures n having to replace all parts so gm says it only happened here n with these parts. I guarantee you if someone would take a look at gm shipping and papers they would see it. If a 2016 4l60e had problems it's more than likely all of them in that year had all same parts so therefore all acceptable to failure, its not like transmission maker chose different parts to send to different plants or this get that no thats just b.s. so there not responsible for all of them so they pick plant with most failures
The trailer brake system alert is going off twice in a row every 45 seconds to one minute. The chiming is highly distracting while driving and seems to be a wiring issue.
After a 7 hour road trip and returning to local stop and go travel in our hometown, the brakes started vibrating and the brake pedal then went hard. It took a severe downward foot thrust to get the vehicle to stop and even then still continued to roll forward a few feet. The brakes remained hard thereafter and not safe to drive- unable to brake at that point. Luckily we were not in traffic at that time or still on our road trip otherwise I am sure there would have been a serious wreck or fatality. Dealership supposedly took care of the recall repair for the vacuum pump previously but apparently their action was not sufficient. What am I supposed to do about it now? Thank you.
Brake assist problems. When stopping/slow braking while being in heavy traffic, or drive thru, the brakes will vibrate and will not come to a complete stop without it rolling, almost into another vehicle. The brake petal will be stiff and the vehicle will continue to roll. This happens a lot, but seems to only happen during stop/start, bumper to bumper situations.
There is a trailer brake warning that comes up, sometimes 10 times in a single mile of driving on the freeway. It beeps very loud and I cannot hear anything else. It is distracting to drive and I am unable to shut it off, I can only dismiss. I am now not sure if I can tow with my Tahoe because I fear there is something wrong with the trailer brake system. It is loud enough that if something else was wrong, I may not be able to hear it happening with the warning sound going off so often. I don't know exactly what is going on but my best guess is that it is either with the wiring, as this happens when I am not towing, or there is a sensor of some sort that is faulty. In any case, I don't think it is safe to tow because of potential hazards of the trailer brakes not working, or even worse, the trailer brakes locking up and me causing an accident.
Trailer brake system warning light keeps coming on, over 64 times in less then a 2 hour period, and I"m not even towing or using the trailer brake. It's very annoying, loud and can cause a crash as you immediately look down to see why the beeps are coming for
While pulling forward in a drive thru, slowing to stop, the brake pedal started vibrating and became very hard to press. Came within inches of hitting the vehicle in front of me. I drove to an empty parking area afterwards and was able to reproduce the problem several times. This only seems to happen at low speeds. The brake assist warning light comes on each time this occurs. The vehicle has not yet been inspected by manufacturer or mechanic. I'm filing this complaint because this is a major safety issue. This is not an isolated problem to my vehicle as I have seen that many others have filed the same complaint with the 2015 Tahoe.
Trailer brake service message constantly dinging and you can’t dismiss the message. Dealership replaced a fuse and thought they fixed it and by the next day the message was back and dinging non stop. It is so distracting it’s almost unsafe to drive. Can’t see my speed or anything on my dash because the message will not go away and the dinging noise is unbearable.
The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that the vehicle had been experiencing electrical failures. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, warning messages indicating that the forward collision system, the StabiliTrak, and the theft deterrent had failed, and other unknown messages were displayed. The contact stated that the vehicle would suddenly shut off. The contact was able to restart the vehicle after several attempts or after adjusting the battery cable. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer on two occasions; however, the dealer could not duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 130,000.
Vehicle has shut down twice while turning. When action happens the stability controls are turned off, parking assistance is turned off. All lights on dash flash. With this vehicle having electronic steering, I have no control of this vehicle when it shuts down while driving. Dealer could not reproduce actions to diagnose, but informed me to return if it was to happen again.
I bought the tahoe from a buy here pay here Its a salvage car from the action The guy who sold it to me said he would fix and never did I took it in to a shop because i almost recked and the transmission i think messed up because of the brakes and steering There is also another car he sold that my friend bought for me to fix because the guy sold it with out airbags
Service light saying: “Service Trailer Breaking System” It’s happening randomly and driving me nuts.
Trailer brake system error keeps showing. And not towing anything or using trailer brakes. Incredibly annoying
At low speeds, mainly backing up, the brake pedal goes soft and the vehicle will not stop. As you push harder, the pedal becomes stiff and you feel the ABS activate. I have read online that this is a common problem with the 2015-2016 GM models. Apparently the vacuum pump is the root cause however many have stated if oil is found, the Vacuum Line between the booster and the pump 3. Brake Booster 4. Master Cylinder 5. Vacuum Pump Belt should be changed as well.
I purchased a certified pre- owned 2015 Chevy Tahoe LTZ on November 2, 2021, after one day of driving the Trailer brake system chime came on without any towing. the trailer brakes stopped functioning. the warning message would not stop chiming this was distracting me from driving. this is potential danger situation to me and to other drivers on the road.
At 123,000 miles the torque converter failed and caused a cascading failure through the transmission leaving me stranded in traffic. Vehicle towed to Phoenix Transmission in Weatherford. 5k later I have a new UPGRADED transmission with a warranty. Owner says they get about one a month in with the same issue.
Truck doesn't want to brake have to put both feet on pedal. Almost hit a car in the drop off line this morning at school. When braking it skips a beat and I have to press hard to try to stop it. It scared me because there's no warning lights, it just happened out of nowhere and was afraid to have an accident home very scary. No it has not been inspected by anyone yet. Yes its available for inspection anytime as I wont be driving till I figure out the problem to avoid a serious accident.
While in reverse, at a slow speed, my vehicle still rolls while pressing the brake. I almost hit my daughter’s dance studio. It’s happened many times now and after checking, there is a recall on the software but not the part to fix this. Apparently the software doesn’t fix it because my vehicle software has been updated. I can’t help but think I could’ve backed into a child at her dance studio. Very dangerous for my family and others. Also it’s frustrating to not feel safe driving.
On 10-9-2021 was driving slowly 5-10 MPH in a parking lot and pressed brake and the brake pedal was very hard to press down. Had to really press it hard to stop the 2015 Tahoe LTZ. Had the Tahoe towed to Firestone and they said it was the vacuum pump. Wanted to make sure there was not a recall on the vacuum pump.
Dome lights keep flickering. Not specific to any light. All of them flash sporadically. Looks like a camera flash at night. It is beyond distracting at night and the dealership could not find what is causing it to happen. It is making driving at night dangerous because it is distracting because it can sometimes flash non stop like a strobe light.
I was driving at 55 mph when the entire car shuddered and very loud babgihg and knocking occurred. Immediately the car slowed way down and lost power. Luckily I was able to sagely move it out of the lane before getting rear ended but that was only because I was in the right lane. The check engine light came on and started blinking and the traction control failure and safety radar system failure light came on. The vehicle was towed to a Chevy dealer and found out the lifters had failed and these damaged the crankshaft. The truck has 91000 miles. After researching there seems to be a very large problem with these engines failing due to the AFM system that chevy uses
The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated while driving approximately 70 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power and decelerated to approximately 50 MPH. The contact pulled over and the steering wheel locked. The contact stated that the check engine, Reduced Engine Power, Stabili-trac, and other unknown warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was turned off and restarted; however, the steering was still locked. The vehicle was shifted into drive(D) and failed to respond. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed by a dealer or independent mechanic. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had not been contacted. The failure mileage was 157,503.
The trailer brake warning repeatedly alerts - even when not towing a vehicle or in use. This is distracting and has been for some time.
Problem with air Condenser leaking from poorly manufactured part.
While accelerating from a green light the truck felt as if it shifted into neutral leaving me stranded in the middle of a 4 lane highway there was no indication or warning light or sign until after the incident. Only then did the check engine light come on. There was a slight vibration before the transmission failed at 85000 miles. The truck is in the shop having the transmission replaced. I lost total drive control in the middle of a busy highway the out come could have been very bad.
2015 Tahoe with a very stiff ride. ASE certified mechanic who uses OEM parts says front struts and rear shocks are frozen and have to be replaced. Cost is $3600 and he says all parts are on backorder as this is a common failure. The ride is so firm that the car leaves the ground when riding over bumpy roads.
Came home and could smell gas. Had just filled up so ignored it. Next day, just pulling into driveway, husband could see gas pouring out the bottom below the drivers seat area.. fuel line split. Had to have it towed to dealership and paid nearly a grand to get that repaired. Warranty wouldn’t cover it..
I received a combination of three error messages on the same day and they show every time I start the vehicle. “Stabilitrak” service needed, “steering assist is reduced, drive with care” action required message, and “rear parking assist symbols unavailable” error message when in reverse. Causes hard/lurch changes in gears. Affects the control of the vehicle and the ability to drive in a straight line.
Leaking Fuel Lines from rubbing on fuel tank.
I'm having problems with my brake system. When I'm backing up it will slide like it don't want to stop fully. If I'm at a light and press the brakes frequently it don't want to stop and feels like it slides before coming to a complete stop. On hills it feels like it's harder to keep the SUV stopped without rolling.
The battery power saver light came on then as backing out of driveway I lost power and steering control Service brake assist light flashed as well as service stabilitrack and steering assist Returned home bc I had five kids in vehicle and couldn’t risk it. Consumer thought vehicle was repaired but occurred again.
2015 Chevrolet Tahoe: The battery indicator goes below the midpoint, then there are different alerts on the dashboard, i.e. stabilitrak, brake assist, battery/power saver, park assist, etc. The a/c all of sudden blows hard with a display blink off, the steering wheel also gets hard to steer and then the vehicle cuts off on its own. The vehicle cutting off has happened mostly when we're trying to park and turning at slow speeds; however, it did happen once while we were stopped at a light and trying to turn into the turning lane and it shut off. The risk is a car accident causing bodily harm and/or property damage. I see recalls for the 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe for this same issue, but unfortunately for whatever reason, my particular VIN was not included.
I was on my way home from work, driving 70-75mph and out of nowhere, my power steering stopped working. I pulled over the best I could and called my boyfriend to come and get me. I cannot drive the vehicle because the steering wheel has to be forced and it is very difficult to move. I have read about two recalls regarding power steering. Recall 14743- Replace the power steering assist motor kit. My Tahoe has never had the motor kit replaced. Recall 18289- Update the EPS software. This was done in May of 2019. I have addressed this issue with my dealership with no help. This is going to cost a fortune to fix and this should be covered under the recalls. The power steering is a known issue with GM and this issue almost caused me to get into a crash.
Power Steering went out after being recalled in 2018.
At low rate of speed the brake pedal becomes hard to press when attempting to stop. Vibrating feeling and clicking noise can be heard from brake pedal.
started to notice a fuel smell/odor, which after several days 3 to 4 got worse, then my tahoe started having problems starting, i then seen fuel leaking from the driver's side behind driver's door and below driver's side passenger door, which is where my granddaughter's car seat is located, i inspected where the leak appeared to be coming from, i could tell it was coming from on top of the fuel tank running down the side of the tank leaving a puddle of fuel, the repair shop said they believe the leak is coming from the fuel line and would pull the fuel tank down and replace the fuel line which is going to be a expensive repair. this is a serious safety hazard and should be covered by general motors corporation, i am concerned that my tahoe could have caught on fire while driving without no warning indicator light. i will keep invoices from repair shop and the faulty factory fuel line. i fear this problem could very well cause loss of life or a very serious accident while driving that i believe general motors is aware of.
The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that upon his wife starting the vehicle, the "Service Power Steering" warning light illuminated. The contact's wife informed him that excessive force was needed to steer the vehicle. The contact then called a dealer who informed him that his vehicle was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V586000 (STEERING). The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 109,000.
Driving down highway 86 AZ going south on mile marker 89 there was loose gravel/rock as it hit my windshield it cracked it.
The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that while driving from a complete stop and while driving at various speeds, the vehicle made an abnormal whining sound. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where the transmission was replaced. The contact stated that after retrieving the vehicle from the dealer while driving 10-15 MPH, the brake pedal was depressed but was significantly firm and failed to respond. The contact drove into a curb and struck a parking sign pole. The air bags did not deploy. The contact stated that the failure exacerbated pre-existing injuries. The dealer was contacted and advised the contact to restart the vehicle and depress the brake pedal to verify whether the brake pedal was operable. The contact followed the dealer's instructions, and the brake pedal responded as needed; however, the vehicle was towed to the residence because the contact was concerned about driving the vehicle. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the vacuum pump needed to be replaced. The dealer replaced the vacuum pump; however, the failure recurred while driving. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the lifters had failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was taken to a second dealer, Midway Chevrolet Plainwell Auto Dealer (381 12th St, Plainwell, MI 49080), where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump wires, the transfer case oil and seal, the engine oil coolant hose, the valve cover gasket, and other unknown parts needed to be replaced. Additionally, the dealer determined that the ball joints needed to be replaced, and an alignment needed to be performed. The dealer also determined that the air ride compressor was noisy. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was then taken to a third dealer, Heritage Chevrolet, Inc. (350 W Dickman Rd, Battle Creek, MI 49037), where it was diagnosed with an oil leak. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and several claims were filed; however, the manufacturer denied the claims. The failure mileage was approximately 5,000.
Noticed a strong gas odor when exiting the vehicle. Upon looking the at the vehicle from top to bottom I discovered that there was gas dripping from the gas tank. Took the vehicle to the dealer, and was told that a fuel line on top of the tank was cracked and needed to be replaced. Since this seemed like a pretty serious safety issue I did some online research hoping to discover a recall, but didn't find any open ones. What I did find was a lot of people saying that this same issue had happened to them, and is a result of a design flaw where the fuel line on top of the tank is too close the the chassis and over time vibrations wear a hole into the line. Since this is such a serious safety issue I feel that that it should be taken care of by the manufacturer.
Engine service light came on May 7th during a trip which made the vehicle run sporadically and missing which then caused the traction control light to come on as well. When we took the vehicle to the dealership they said that a lifter had stuck and it had ruined the camshaft. Repairs would be 5800.00. We took the vehicle to another dealership and they gave us a better price and said that two other vehicles were in the shop in front of our vehicle for the same issue and some were newer 2019 or later vehicles and that this was a common problem because of defective parts. They said that the new parts were better and should work without the same problem. We do not have our vehicle back yet, I expect it back in a couple days because they had to order the parts. If this is a common problem, the dealerships know what is wrong and how to fix the problem, why is Chevrolet not letting owners know and take care of the problem before they fail and we end up with a large invoice. I had a 2007 Tahoe that had an oil consumption problem that everyone knew about and no one tried to get the problem fixed. This Tahoe was purchased to take on trips. The vehicle stays in a garage full time, only has 38700 miles on the engine and I have had nothing but problems since it was purchased. During one trip two spark plugs were dead, had to be replaced. One trip the battery was dead so I had to get a battery maintainer and keep on the engine battery. Trip to Florida the front window leaked and after that one stationary side window leaked. One trip the rear air conditioner did not work the first time it was used because it was not grounded. I have already decided to never buy another Chevrolet product in the future even though i have not used anything else since getting out of college in 1973. Enough is enough.
FRONT AND REAR SHOCKS HAD TO BE COMPLETELY REPLACED. 2 WEEKS LATER THE TRANSMISSION COMPLETELY WENT OUT AND HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THIS VEHICLE HAS ONLY 80,000 MILES.
AT LOW SPEEDS (LESS THAN 10 MPH) BRAKES (ABS AND POWER ASSIST) HAVE FAILED WHEN IN REVERSE ON SLIGHT INCLINE. MOST RECENTLY (4/20/2021) THE SAME ISSUE OCCURED WHEN MOVING FORWARD, AT APPROXIMATELY 5-7 MPH, WHILE ON APPROX 8% DOWNHIL GRADE. THE ROAD SURFACE WAS NON-PAVED, MIXED DIRT/GRAVEL. THIS ISSUE OCCURED MULTIPLE TIMES, HOWEVER, DURING 2 OF THE OCCURANCES THE VEHICLES WOULD NOT COME TO A COMPLETE STOP AND WAS THOUGHT TO HAVE CONTINUED OVER THE EDGE OF ROAD INTO CANYO IF NOT FOR AN EXTREME CHOICE FORWARD PATH TO NAVIGATE THURN. THIS "ROAD" WAS THE WHITE RIM ROAD IN CANYON LANDS NATIONAL PARK, UTAH.
I PURCHASED A USED 2015 CHEVROLET TAHOE WITH ABOUT 140000 MILES. AFTER DRIVING THE VEHICLE FOR ABOUT A MONTH I BEGAN TO EXPERIENCE PROBLEMS WITH THE RADIO. IT HAD AN ISSUE PLAYING CLEARLY. THEN THE DISPLAY SCREEN STARTED JUMPING AND MOVING THROUGH DIFFERENT COMMANDS ON ITS OWN. JUST RECENTLY, TWO MONTHS AFTER OWNING THE VEHICLE, IT HAS STARTED TO CUT OFF COMPLETELY WHILE I AM DRIVING IT. THE FIRST TIME IT OCCURRED IS WHEN I WAS ABOUT TO MAKE A LEFT TURN. THE SECOND TIME IT OCCURRED, I WAS BACKING INTO MY DRIVE WAY. THIS TIME IT CUT OFF COMPLETELY THREE TIMES IN A ROW. I THINK I PURCHASED A BAD CAR AND NOW I'M STUCK WITH IT UNTIL I CAN GET ENOUGH MONEY TO SELL IT OR TRADE IT FOR ANOTHER VEHICLE.
I bought the vehicle from Dan Cummins dealership and a few months later started to smell gasoline got it checked vehicle replaced the gas line it was leaking
I OWN A 2015 CHEVY TAHOE LTZ WHICH I BOUGHT LESS THAN A YEAR AGO AND AFTER SEVERAL MONTHS I NOTICED THAT IT HANDLES BUMPS POORLY AND DOES A LOT OF BOUNCING. WHEN I HAD NEW TIRES PUT ON THE SERVICE TECH MENTIONED HOW POORLY IT DRIVES AND SAID THE STRUTS WOULD NEED REPLACING ON THE FRONT FOR SURE AND EVENTUALLY ON THE BACK AS WELL. I RECEIVED MY FIRST QUOTE AT $2200 JUST FOR THE FRONT WHICH IS INSANE SO I DECIDED TO DO A LITTLE RESEARCH AND QUICKLY FOUND IT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM FOR THIS VEHICLE. I AM VERY DISPLEASED WITH FINDING OUT THIS INFORMATION FOR SPENDING THE AMOUNT OF MONEY I DID ON THIS LUXURY VEHICLE. I'VE PRICE SHOPPED AROUND AND HAVE NOT FOUND ANYTHING ANY CHEAPER. I AM ALSO WORRIED IF I LET IT GO FOR TOO LONG WHAT COULD POTENTIALLY HAPPEN AND WILL IT LESSEN THE LIFE OF THE VERY EXPENSIVE BRAND NEW TIRES I JUST PUT ON. THIS IS RIDICULOUS AND CHEVROLET/GM NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING TO MAKE THIS RIGHT.
