I PURCHASED A 2002 CHEVY TRAILBLAZER THE TRANSMISSION WENT OUT AT 15053 MILES WITH PREVIOUS OWNER 2-3 SHIFT SOLENOID IN TRANSMISSION REPLACED. THE TRANSMISSION WENT OUT WITH ME AT 33431 MILES, STILL UNDER FACTORY WARRANTY. DEALERSHIP FOUND SHELL STRIPPED OUT REACTION CARRIER TEETH BROKE REPLACED ALL CLUTCHES REPLACED 2/4 BAND. AT 83029 MILES TRANSMISSION WENT OUT WITH ME AGAIN. VEHICLE IS NOW OUT OF WARRANTY. DEALERSHIP FOUND REACTION SUN GEAR STRIPPED INSIDE REACTION SUN SHELL. REPLACED SUN GEAR AND SHELL & O/H TRANSMISSION. I CALLED GM CUSTOMER SERVICE AND ASKED THEM TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION BECAUSE I FELT SOMETHING WAS CAUSING THESE PARTS TO KEEP GOING BAD AND THIS IS THE 3RD TIME. I FELT THERE COULD BE ONE PART THAT CAME FROM THE FACTORY IN THIS TRANSMISSION AS A DEFECT. GM AGREED TO PAY PARTS IF I PAID LABOR TO REPLACE PARTS NOT REPLACE COMPLETE TRANSMISSION. THIS COST ME $840.00. NOW IT IS 119000 MILES AND TRANSMISSION GONE AGAIN. I CALLED GM TO EXPLAIN TO THEM THAT THIS IS THE 4TH TIME AND I REQUESTED A NEW TRANSMISSION AND A REFUND OF MY $840.00 FROM LAST TIME BECAUSE FOR SOME REASON THIS TRANSMISSION HAS A PATTERN OF GOING OUT AT APPROXIMATELY EVERY 30 TO 40000 MILES. GM WOULD NOT ASSIST ME WITH ANY ASSISTANCE. THE DIAGNOSTIC THIS TIME SHOWS WOULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF 1ST BUT TO DETERMINE WHAT PARTS WERE BAD IT WOULD HAVE TO BE BROKEN DOWN. I WAS HOPING GM WOULD ASSIST ME IN THIS MATTER BUT I SEEM TO GET NO WHERE. I HOPE YOU CAN HELP! *TR

LOUD NOISE IN TRANSMISSION THIS AFTER 30,000 MILES ON A TOTALLY REBUILT TRANSMISSION OF MY 2002 CHEVY TRAILBLAZER.
GAS VAPORS COMING FROM UNDER LEFT REAR OF VEHICLE WHEN I FILL IT FULL OF FUEL. I SAW THAT THIS ISSUE IS UNDER INVESTIGATION. I HAVE NOT YET REPAIRED THE VEHICLE AS I AM AWAITING THE OUTCOME OF A POTENTIAL RECALL. I CURRENTLY JUST DON'T FILL IT FULL OF FUEL. *TR
2002 CHEVY TRAILBLAZER FAN CLUTCH MOTOR NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. PROBLEMS AUTOMATIC SHIFTING. A WELL KNOWN ISSUE WITH THIS YEAR. READ AND KNOW OF OWNERS OF THE SAME VEHICLE WITH SAME PROBLEMS...MY TRUCK AT THE TIME THIS BECAME DEFECTIVE WAS AT 65,000 MILES. *TR
BOTH BRAKE LIGHTS CONSTANTLY FAIL. IM TIRED OF GOING BACK TO THE DEALER, HAVING THEM TELL ME THEY'VE CORRECTED THE PROBLEM AND A FEW DAYS LATER MY BRAKE LIGHTS ARE OUT AGAIN. IT IS TRULY A PAIN TO TRAVEL WITH INFANTS KNOWING THAT THE BACK BRAKE LIGHTS ARE OUT. WE'VE ATTEMPTED EVERYTHING POSSIBLE AND THE PROBLEM STILL PERSISTS. THERE APPEARS TO BE NO LONG TERM OR PERMANENT FIX. *TR
PULLING ONTO THE HIGHWAY, WHEN TRANSMISSION POPPED AND BEGAN TO WHINE. REVERSE GEAR LOST AND STUCK IN 1ST GEAR. TOOK TO DEALER WHERE DIAGNOSIS WAS FAILED (STRIPPED) REACTION SUN SHELL. FORTUNATELY VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING AT LOW SPEED. CONCERNED THAT FAILURE COULD HAVE OCCURRED ON THE HIGHWAY AT GREATER SPEED. THIS VEHICLE WAS NEVER USED FOR TOWING OR SUBJECTED TO ANY ABUSE WHATSOEVER. THIS IS A COMMON FAILURE IN THE 2002 MODELS BUILT DURING A CERTAIN TIME PERIOD. DEALER GAVE SOME COST CONCESSION ON TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT, BUT UNWILLING TO ADMIT COMPONENT WEAKNESS. CALLED GM CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE LINE WITH NO ADDITIONAL SUPPORT. *TR
2002 CHEVROLET TRAILBLAZER HAS DEVELOPED FUEL LEAK FROM FUEL SENDING UNIT MODULE. MUST HAVE APPROXIMATELY $550.00 REPAIR DONE FOR SIMPLE SAFETIES SAKE. CAN'T DRIVE AROUND LEAKING FUEL. UNUSUAL FOR A 5 YEAR OLD CAR TO DEVELOP GAS LEAKS DUE TO MANUFACTURER DEFECT. WOULD LIKE RECALL AND REIMBURSEMENT FOR NEEDED REPAIRS. THANK YOU. *TR
I HAVE A 2002 CHEVY TRAILBLAZER. ALL SEAT BELTS HAVE WORKED EXCEPT THE PASSENGER ONE STICKS NOW AND THEN WHEN YOU BREAK; IT WON'T RELEASE. BUT I HAVE A BIGGER ISSUE. THE MIDDLE BACK SEAT BELT WILL NOT LONGER WORK. WHEN YOU GO TO PULL IT OUT OF THE SEAT FOR USE, IT WILL NOT MOVE. I'VE TRIED EVERYTHING. IT JUST STOPPED WORKING. I CALLED A CHEVY DEALER ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND THEY STATED THEY COULD LOOK AT IT AND FIX IT AT MY OWN EXPENSE. I UNDERSTAND THINGS GO ON CARS AND IT'S MY RESPONSIBILITY, BUT A SEAT BELT THAT WON'T COME OUT AND WORK???? HOW IS THAT MY PROBLEM AND NOT A DEFECT WITH THE CAR????? PLEASE HELP OR ADVISE. - 2002 CHEVROLET TRAILBLAZER - TRAILBLAZER ASCENDER COOLING FAN CLUTCH & SPEED SENSOR ASSEMBLY. - LOUD NOISE COMING FROM COOLING FAN. WHILE UNDER WARRANTY WAS TOLD BY DEALER THAT THE NOISE WAS NORMAL AND THAT THERE WERE NO PROBLEMS. AFTER WARRANTY EXPIRED THE FAN CLUTCH FAILED AND WAS THEN TOLD THAT THE NOISE WAS NOT NORMAL AND THAT THIS SUV HAS A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH THE FAN CLUTCH. DEALER STATED THAT EVEN THOUGH THIS IS A PART WITH A VERY HIGH FAILURE RATE IT IS NOT A RECALL ITEM. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET TRAILBLAZER. THE CONTACT WANTED TO KNOW WHY NO ONE HAS CONTACTED HIM IN REGARDS TO THE COMPLAINT THAT HE FILED A YEAR AGO. THE ORIGINAL COMPLAINT WAS IN REFERENCE TO RECALL NUMBER 10169395 (VISIBILITY:WINDSHIELD WIPERS). CHEVROLET INFORMED HIM THAT HIS COMPLAINT FILE WAS CLOSED AND ISSUED HIM A CHECK FOR $240. IF HE CASHED THE CHECK, THAT WOULD MEAN THE ISSUE WAS RESOLVED AND HE WAS SATISFIED WITH THE RESULTS. THE CONTACT DID NOT CASH THE CHECK. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 47,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 57,000.
I HAVE A CHEVY TRAILBLAZER LTZ 2002,"BOUGHT IT BRAND NEW" EXCELLENT CONDITION 75,000. I HAD A TRANSMISSION FLUSH DONE AT 50,000 MILES AS REQUESTED. I GET OIL CHANGES DONE EVERY 3,000 MILES. ON AUGUST 5TH 2007 I NOTICED TRANSMISSION FLUID SPLATTERED ALL OVER THE UNDER CARRIAGE OF MY VEHICLE AND THE BACK WINDOW. TOOK THE CAR TO A MY MECHANIC WHO RECOMMENDED I TAKE THE CAR TO TRANSMISSION SPECIALIST "AMOCO"SO I DID. NEED MY TRANSMISSION REBUILT, FLUID LEAKING OUT OF AIR PORT IN TRANSMISSION, THE DRUMS DEFECTIVE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET TRAILBLAZER. WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH, THE ELECTRONIC GAUGES BEGAN TO FLASH OFF AND ON. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE SPEEDOMETER WENT FROM ZERO, TO TOP SPEED, AND THEN BACK TO ZERO. THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG DEPLOYED WITHOUT WARNING AS WELL. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER, BUT THEY CANNOT REPAIR THE VEHICLE DUE TO LIABILITY REASONS. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 85,000.
I OWN A 2002 CHEVY TRAILBLAZER LTZ. THE PROBLEM THAT I'M HAVING IS THAT THE DRIVER SIDE MIRROR LOSES ITS MEMORY AND ALWAYS NEEDS ADJUSTING WHEN STARTING UP THE VEHICLE AND EVEN WHILE DRIVING!!! I HAVE DONE EVERYTHING THAT THE MANUAL SUGGEST AND EVEN TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP TWICE TO HAVE IT WORKED ON. THE PROBLEM CAME BACK AND IS STILL PRESENT. I THINK THAT THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY MATTER FOR THE FACT THAT THE MIRROR MOVES ON ITS OWN WHILE I'M DRIVING THE VEHICLE. I HOPE SOMETHING IS DONE ABOUT THIS IN THE NEAR FUTURE. THANKS. *JB
WENT TO GET GAS FOR MY 2002 CHEVY TRAILBLAZER AND WE I FINISHED AND I STARTED MY CAR I PUT IT IN REVERSE AND HEARD A LOUD CLUNK NOISE AND THEN THE TRUCK WOULD NOT GO INTO REVERSE. THEN I PUT IT IN DRIVE AND HEARD A LOT OF GRINDING. I CALLED GMC AND THEY KNOW THE TRAILBLAZER HAS A DEFECTIVE TRANSMISSION AND NOW THAT I CALL THEM WITH MY PROBLEM THEY TELL ME THAT I JUST NEED TO GET A GM DIAGNOSTICS TEST. DONE AND IT JUST ANOTHER WAY FOR THEM TO GET MONEY OUT OF PEOPLE. *JB
WHEN TURNING ON MY CHEVY TRAILBLAZER..SOUNDS LIKE A JET AIRPLANE TAKING OFF. HAD IT REPLACED LAST YEAR (2007) AND IT'S STARTING TO DO THE SAME THING. I WAS TOLD THAT THE ORIGINAL FAN CLUTCH HAD SOME SORT OF UPGRADE OR WAS IT JUST DEFECTIVE? *TR
REFER TO NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: PE07013 AND EA07009 . . . . ODI HAS RECEIVED REPORTS THAT THE FUEL PUMP MODULE LEAKS FUEL AND OR VAPOR UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. GM STATES, "THE FAILURE MECHANISM IS CORROSION OF THE FUEL PUMP MODULE FLANGE WHICH MAY LEAD TO A FUEL LEAK. CORROSION OF THE FUEL PUMP MODULE FLANGE IS THE RESULT OF THE VEHICLE OPERATING IN A CORROSIVE ENVIRONMENT." ODI HAS OPENED THIS ENGINEERING ANALYSIS TO FURTHER ASSESS THIS ISSUE. *JB
IN 2005 MY 2002 TRAILBLAZER - HAD SMELLING FUMES, SES LIGHT, AND A BAD DIAGNOSIS FROM THE DEALER. PARTLY DUE TO THE CODES COMING UP FOR THE EVAP SYSTEM AND RELATED PURGE. AFTER SEVERAL RESETS OF THE SES LIGHT, ONE TECH FOUND GAS DRIPPING FROM UNDER THE THE TANK. THE TANK WAS REPLACED AT NO CHARGE. IN 2007 THE SAME PROBLEMS AGAIN - HAD SMELLING FUMES, SES LIGHT, WHEN DEALER WAS CONTACTED THEY SAID THAT THE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRE. WE SHOWED THEM A LETTER THAT STAID THAT THIS WAS AN ACTUAL PROBLEM AND THAT CHEVROLET WILL REPLACE THE FUEL AT THE END THEY REPACED THE FUEL TANK AT NO CHARGE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET TRAILBLAZER. EVERY TIME THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEN 5 MPH OR LESS, THE BRAKES MAKE A GRINDING NOISE WHEN THEY ARE APPLIED. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET TRAILBLAZER. THE CONTACT SMELLED GAS FUMES BETWEEN THE RADIATOR AND THE FUEL TANK WHEN HE STARTED THE VEHICLE. AFTER A FEW MINUTES OF DRIVING, HE NOTICED FUEL LEAKING FROM THE TOP OF THE FUEL TANK TO THE BOTTOM. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 115,700.
THE HEADLINER OF MY VEHICLE HAS BECOME SOAKED WITH RAIN. I BELIEVE THE WEATHER STRIPPING ON THE VEHICLE IS DEFECTIVE. THE HEADLINER IS SOAKED ON THE DRIVERS SIDE FROM THE WINDSHIELD TO THE MIDDLE ROW OF SEATS. *TR
I OWN A 2002 TRAILBLAZER THAT STALLED FOR NO APPARENT REASON. I DID NOT UNDERSTAND IT BECAUSE ONE DAY IT WILL STALL AT EVERY SINGLE RED LIGHT OR STOP SIGN AND THEN THE NEXT DAY IT WILL BE FINE. WHEN I START TO SLOW DOWN AT A STOP SIGN OR SUCH THE NEEDLE IN THE RPM GAUGE GOES NUTS AND THE VEHICLE STARTS TO KIND OF BUCK A LITTLE AND THEN IDLES REALLY LOW OR IT WILL REV ITSELF UP TO ABOUT 3000 RPM. SO WHEN I GET TO THE STOP IT JUST SHUTS OFF, NO LIGHTS COME ON IN THE INSTRUMENT PANEL OR NOTHING. MOST TIMES I JUST PUT IT IN PARK , TURN THE KEY TO THE OFF POSITION AND THEN START IT BACK UP. RUNS NORMAL THEN, WELL MAYBE UNTIL THE NEXT STOP. ONLY ONE OTHER TIME DID I GO TO START IT BACK UP AND IT WOULDN'T START BUT ONLY FOR A SECOND AND THEN IT DID START. ALSO, IT REVVED WHILE I WA S JUST DRIVING NORMALLY. IT HAS HAD NUMEROUS OTHER PROBLEMS SO WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE CHEVROLET DEALER I PURCHASED IT FROM FOR ANOTHER PROBLEM AS WELL AS ME TELLING THEM ABOUT THIS, THEY HAD OVERNIGHT, SAID THEY TOOK IT FOR A DRIVE AND NOTHING HAPPENED, WHICH I TOLD THEM THAT IT DOESN'T HAPPEN EVERY TIME YOU STOP OR EVERY DAY. THEY ALSO SAID SINCE NO SERVICE ENGINE LIGHTS OR ANYTHING CAME ON THEY COULDN'T TELL WHAT THE PROBLEM IS WHEN THEY PUT IT ON THE DIAGNOSTIC MACHINE. SO I HAVE NO CLUE WHAT TO DO BUT TO KEEP DRIVING IT AND MAYBE SOMEONE WILL REAREND ME BECAUSE IT STALLS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY. I FEEL HALF AFRAID TO DRIVE IT ANYMORE. *AK
I GOT IN THE CAR TO GO TO WORK THE OTHER DAY AND AS SOON AS I PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE AND STEPPED ON THE GAS IT MADE A LOUD FAN NOISE THAT MADE THE CAR SOUND LIKE AN AIRPLANE TAKING OFF. THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME THE CAR HAD EVER MADE THAT NOISE. I DROVE THE CAR AROUND THAT DAY BEFORE GETTING IT TO A MECHANIC. THE MECHANIC SAID IT WAS THE FAN CLUTCH THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I BELIEVE THEY SAID IT WAS AN ELECTRONIC RELAY, WHICH WAS WHY IT COST $600 TO REPLACE. THE SUV WAS A 2002 MODEL AND HAD 57,500 MILES ON IT.*AK
AS MY WIFE WAS PULLING OUT OF AN INTERSECTION THE TRAILBLAZER MAY A LOUD SOUND AND THEN STARTED MAKING A LOUD WHINING SOUND THAT GOT LOUDER AS SHE DROVE AND HAD NO POWER AND WOULD NOT SHIFT AND THEN LOST REVERSE. I CONTACTED GM AFTER I FOUND THAT SEVERAL PEOPLE HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM THEY TOLD ME TO TAKE IT TO A GM GARAGE AND HAVE IT DIAGNOSED AND THEY WOULD BE IN CONTACT WITH ME THEY FINALLY TOLD ME THAT THEY COULD NOT HELP ME BECAUSE 1ST I DID NOT BUY FROM A GM DEALERSHIP, 2 I DID NOT HAVE MY SERVICE AND MAINTANANCE DONE BY A GM GARAGE AND 3 BECAUSE I WAS A SECOND OWNER OF THE TRAILBLAZER. SO INTERN I HAD TO PAY $2730.27 TO GET THE TRANSMISSION REPLACED. *TR
2002 CHEVROLET TRAILBLAZER; VEHICLE WAS IDLING WHEN I NOTICED A STREAM OF FLUID COMING FROM UNDERNEATH, NEAR THE MIDDLE. FOUND IT TO BE GASOLINE COMING FROM THE FRONT END AREA OF THE GASOLINE TANK. RATE OF LEAKAGE WAS ABOUT 1/4 GALLON PER MINUTE. LEAKAGE STOPPED WHEN VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF. TOOK TO DEALER - REPLACED LEAKING FUEL SENDING UNIT.*AK
I HAVE A 2002 TRAILBLAZER. THE TRANSMISSION HAS FAILED TWICE SINCE I BOUGHT IT. THE FIRST TIME IT WAS AT 26,990 MILES AND THE SECOND TIME IT WAS AT 61,062 MILES. BOTH TIMES THE TRANSMISSION FAILED IT WAS WITHOUT ANY WARNING WHILE I WAS DRIVING IT. THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT MOVE FROM 1ST TO 2ND OR 2ND TO 3RD UNLESS I TOOK MY FOOT OFF OF THE GAS. IN BOTH INSTANCES I ALSO LOST REVERSE. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED I WAS LUCKY BECAUSE IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY. THE SECOND TIME IT HAPPENED IT WAS 2 MONTHS AND 1,000 MILES AFTER MY EXTENDED WARRANTY EXPIRED. THE DEALERSHIP QUOTED $2,038 TO FIX IT (NOT REPLACE IT) BUT OFFERED ME A 10% DISCOUNT. I DIDN'T HAVE A CHOICE BECAUSE I NEEDED MY VEHICLE. SINCE THEN I HAVE FOUND THAT THIS IS A FREQUENT PROBLEM THAT GM IS AWARE OF HOWEVER THEY WILL NOT MAKE A RECALL. WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS? THIS IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY CONCERN AS THERE IS NO WARNING WHEN THE TRANSMISSION FAILS. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET TRAILBLAZER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT OVER A YEAR AGO, SHE PAID TO HAVE A NEW FUEL TANK INSTALLED IN HER VEHICLE. TWO WEEKS AGO, SHE BEGAN SMELLING GASOLINE AGAIN AND TOOK HER VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER STATED THAT SHE NEEDS ANOTHER FUEL TANK. ON JUNE 18, 2007, THE CONTACT RECEIVED A LETTER FROM THE MANUFACTURER STATING THAT THE FUEL TANKS ARE FAULTY ON HER MAKE AND MODEL OF VEHICLE. SHE CALLED TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT FOR REPAIR AND WAS TOLD THAT SHE WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR FIRST AND GET REIMBURSED AFTERWARDS. THE PURCHASE DATE AND POWERTRAIN WERE UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 73,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,600.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET TRAILBLAZER. THE CONTACT DETECTED GAS FUMES INSIDE AND OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FUEL LINE AND FUEL PUMP WERE CORRODED. AS OF JULY 17, 2007, THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THERE WAS A DEFECT INVESTIGATION FOR THE FUEL PUMP (NHTSA ACTION # PE07013). THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 76,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,500.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET TRAILBLAZER. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR THE EXTERIOR LIGHTING:TAIL LIGHTS. ON AUGUST 18, 2007, HE ARRIVED AT THE DEALER TO HAVE THE VEHICLE REPAIRED. AFTER SERVICING THE VEHICLE FOR FIVE HOURS, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE REPAIRED. THE REASON WAS BECAUSE THERE WAS A PART IN FRONT OF THE DEFECTIVE PART AND, IF THE MECHANIC BROKE THE PART THAT WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL, THEN THE DEALER WOULD NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGES. THE DEALER FURTHER STATED THAT THE RESPONSIBILITY AND REPAIR COSTS WOULD FALL ON THE CONTACT. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED AND THE TAIL LIGHTS CONTINUE TO FAIL. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FUEL PUMP MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, AND WILL TAKE THREE TO FOUR HOURS TO PULL THE GAS TANK, AND $700.00 FOR THE REPAIR. 2002 CHEVY TRAILBLAZER TRANSMISSION FAILURE. I WAS DRIVING VEHICLE, STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN AND WHEN ATTEMPTING TO DRIVE, VEHICLE WOULDN'T MOVE. I ONLY HAD A 1ST AND 2ND GEAR, NO REVERSE, DRIVE, OR 3RD GEAR AT ALL. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE AND FOUND HUNDREDS OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS, SOME WERE NEAR SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES. PUBLIC CONSENSUS SEEMS TO BE THAT GM IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEMS (DUE TO HUNDREDS OF PHONE CALL COMPLAINTS) BUT REFUSES TO RECALL TRANSMISSIONS UNTIL NHTSA FORCES THEM TO. GM HAS BEEN OFFERING A 30% REBATE ON THE REPAIR COSTS, WHICH EXCEEDED $2,000.00 I HAVEN'T YET SPOKEN TO GM, BUT AM SURE TO GET THE "RUN AROUND". I HAVE TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP TODAY. *TR
APRIL 16, 2007 LEFT REAR DOOR OF 2002 CHEVY TRAILBLAZER EXT FAILED TO LATCH. IF CHILD PASSENGER HAD NOT NOTICED THE DOOR MAY HAVE OPENED DURING DRIVING. VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT TO LOCAL MECHANIC 2 BLOCKS AWAY TO MINIMIZE DRIVE TIME WITH UNLATCHED DOOR. LOCAL MECHANIC FOUND THAT THE DOOR LATCH WAS CORRODED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. COST APPROX $155. OWNER SUBSEQUENTLY DISCOVERED THAT THIS WAS THE SAME PROBLEM THAT PROMPTED SAFETY RECALL 05077. OWNER HAD BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO CHEVROLET DEALER (DEPAULA CHEVROLET, ALBANY NY) IN JULY 2006 AND MINIMAL RECALL REPAIR WAS DONE. ACCORDING TO THE INVOICE DATED 7/17/06 SEALS TO BOTH DOORS WERE INSTALLED. THE INVOICE DOES NOT MENTION IF DOOR LATCHES WERE CLEANED AND LUBRICATED OR THAT LATCHES WERE REPLACED. IT DOES NOT SEEM THAT THE REPAIR THAT WAS DONE WAS ADEQUATE TO PREVENT CORROSION WHICH LEAD TO ULTIMATE FAILURE OF THE LATCH. ON APRIL 19, 2007 3:00 PM OWNER SHOWED DEPAULA SERVICE MANAGER THE FAILED PART. MANAGER SAID THE DEALER COULD DO NOTHING AND REFERRED OWNER TO GM AND PROVIDED 800 NUMBER. APRIL 19, 2007 4:00 PM OWNER CALLED GM RESULTING IN GM REFUSING TO REIMBURSE OWNER FOR REPAIR BECAUSE OWNER DID NOT GO TO AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR REPAIR. AT THE TIME OF INCIDENT THE OWNER DID NOT KNOW THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY DAMAGE RELATED TO RECALL. OWNER DID NOT FEEL IT WAS SAFE TO TRAVEL ANY SIGNIFICANT DISTANCE, ESPECIALLY WITH A CHILD PASSENGER, WHICH IS WHY THE VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT TO A LOCAL MECHANIC. OWNER EXPLAINED THAT THE DEALER WAS 20 MILES FROM WHERE INCIDENT OCCURRED AND IT WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN SAFE TO TRAVEL THAT FAR. GM SUGGESTED THAT OWNER SHOULD HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO DEALER, BUT OWNER HAD NO WAY OF KNOWING THAT THE FAULTY LATCH WAS A RECALL ISSUE THAT NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED BY A DEALER. IN ADDITION TO THE REPAIR COST THE OWNER IS CONCERNED THAT THE REMAINING DOOR LATCH MAY ALSO BE COMPROMISED AND FAIL, PUTTING PASSENGERS IN DANGER OF INJURY. PHOTOS OF FAILED PART ARE AVAILABLE. *JB
