In a very severe head on crash 4/8/2022 the air bag did not deploy.
ON AUGUST 18, 2017, I LEASED-TO-OWN A 2006 CHEVROLET TRAILBLAZER FROM ACTION AUTO OF TUPELO, MS. AROUND THE FIRST WEEK OF OCTOBER OF 2018, I HAD LEND SAID VEHICLE TO MY SISTER. SHE CONTACTED ME SAYING THAT THE ENGINE WAS MAKING A KNOCKING NOISE, AND BROUGHT THE VEHICLE BACK TO ME, WHERE I INSPECTED IT WHILE IT WAS STATIONARY. TO RULE OUT EVERYTHING ELSE BEFORE I ACKNOWLEDGED THE SOUND OF THE KNOCK BEING A SEVERE MECHANICAL FAILURE OF THE ENGINE, I CONNECTED A DIAGNOSTIC SCANNER TO THE CAN DATA CONNECTOR ON THE 2006 CHEVROLET TRAILBLAZER. IN SECONDS THE SCREEN ON THE SCANNER WAS FLOODED WITH FAULTS, BUT THEN THE SCANNER STARTED BEEPING, SAYING THAT THE SRS (SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM) HAD BEEN ACTIVATED. LOOKING AROUND THE VEHICLE I DIDN'T SEE ANY SIGN OF ANY AIRBAG BEING DEPLOYED, OR ANY SEATBELT MISSING. IT WASN'T UNTIL I CHECKED THE CONNECTORS COMING OUT OF THE AIRBAG MODULE THAT I SAW FOR THE FIRST TIME THAT THE AIRBAGS WERE MISSING. I INFORMED MY INSURANCE PROVIDER REGARDING THE ISSUE, WHICH THEY ASSUMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS IN A CURRENT ACCIDENT. IN WHICH IT WAS NOT. AFTER FURTHER EXPLANATION, THEY CANCELLED THE INSURANCE AS AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT ARE ONE OF THE CRITICAL KEY FACTORS THAT INSURANCE PROVIDERS USE TO DETERMINE WHETHER A VECHICLE IS TOTALED OR NOT. I CONTACTED ACTION AUTO OF OXFORD, MS, THEIR MAIN BRANCH I PRESUME, AND INFORMED THEM OF THE PROBLEM AND TO COME AND RETRIEVE THE VEHICLE AS DRIVING IT WITHOUT INSURANCE IS A VIOLATION OF MISSISSIPPI'S STATE'S LAW, AND THE ENGINE HAD EXPERIENCED SEVERE MECHANICAL FAILURE WHICH MADE IT UNSAFE TO DRIVE. ACTION AUTO RETRIEVED THE VEHICLE, BUT STATED THAT I HAD BROKE PROMISES IN OUR AGREEMENT, AND THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD BE AUCTIONED OFF THIS YEAR, IN WHICH THEY DID. FEDERAL LAW REQUIRES ALL VEHICLES MADE AFTER 1997 ARE EQUIPPED WITH AIRBAGS AND TITLE 49 30112 FORBIDS THE SELL OF A NON-CONFORMING VEHICLE.
2006 CHEVY TRAILBLAZER SPUN OUT ON SNOW WHILE MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING. IT WENT TOWARDS THE LEFT THEN IMMEDIATELY JERKED AROUND TO THE RIGHT AND CONTINUED TO GAIN SPEED AS IT LAUNCHED US OFF THE ROADWAY AND INTO A GROUP OF TREES. THE BRAKE PEDAL WOULDN'T BUDGE, THE STEERING WHEEL CONTINUED TO TURN IN CIRCLES NOT CONTROLLING THE TIRES AT ALL. THE BACKSEAT BROKE APART BEFORE IMPACT AND WAS THROWING MY TEENAGE SON AROUND IN THE BACK. THE FRONT SEATS BROKE LOOSE AS WELL AND SLAMMED BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER INTO THE DASH DURING IMPACT. THE SEATBELTS DID NOT ENGAGE TO LOCK INTO PLACE LIKE THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO AND DESPITE FULL FRONTAL DAMAGE AND A SUV DEEMED TOTALLED/DESTROYED BY MY INSURANCE COMPANY, NOT A SINGLE AIRBAG DEPLOYED OR ATTEMPTED TO DEPLOY. WE WERE ALL TRAPPED INSIDE THE VEHICLE DOWN AN EMBANKMENT AND ALL SUSTAINED INJURIES IN THE CRASH INCLUDING CUTS, BRUISES, WHIPLASH, AND MY DAUGHTER HAD A CONCUSSION. MY DAUGHTER HAD A VP SHUNT PLACED IN HER BRAIN LAST YEAR AND COULD'VE EASILY DIED IN THIS CRASH DUE TO HER INJURIES. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT THESE AIRBAGS AND SEATBELTS NOT WORKING!!
MY SON WAS IN AN ACCIDENT IN HIS 2006 TRAILBLAZER. HE WAS CROSSING A CITY STREET INTERSECTION WHEN ANOTHER VEHICLE STRUCK HIS TRUCK ON THE DRIVERS SIDE AT AN ESTIMATED 40+MPH, THE TRUCK FLIPPED AND SLID ABOUT 15-20 FEET. NONE OF THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED.
I WAS IN A CRASH AND NEITHER FRONT AIRBAG DEPLOYED, MY INSURANCE ADJUSTER QUESTIONED IF THE AIR BAG SYSTEM EVEN WORKS. I HAVE COPY OF THE ESTIMATE TO REPAIR AS WELL. DUE TO THE FORCE OF IMPACT EVEN LOCAL REPAIR SHOP STATED THAT MY AIR BAGS SHOULD HAVE GONE OFF AS WELL. IS THERE A RECALL ON THIS MODEL FOR AIR BAGS NOT DEPLOYING? I WAS IN A SECOND WRECK ON 3/7/17 AND NEITHER AIR BAG DEPLOYED AT THAT TIME EITHER AND THERE WAS NO BUMPER SO AIR BAGS SHOULD HAVE DEFINITELY GONE OFF.
LETTER FROM SENATOR NELSON ON BEHALF OF CONSTITUENT REGARDING GENERAL MOTOR SAFETY DEFECTS. *LD THE CONSUMER SUGGESTED THERE WAS A DEFECT WITH THE GM AIR BAGS IN 2006 CHEVROLET TRAILBLAZER, IN WHICH THE DRIVER SUSTAINED A BRAIN INJURY AND HIS WIFE WAS INJURED, WHEN IT WAS IMPACTED ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE, RESULTING IN LEFT A-PILLAR CONTACT WHEN THE AIR BAG FAILED TO DEPLOY AND HIS SEAT BELT RESTRAINTS FAILED. THE CRASH WAS OF ENORMOUS SEVERITY, WITH A SPEED CHANGE OF 38 MPH WITH A LINE FORCE IN THE DIRECTION OF THE A PILLAR. *JB
VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING ON CITY STREET AT 30MPH WHEN IT STRUCK A UTILITY POLE, SHEARING IT OFF AT THE BASE. VEHICLE THEN TRAVELED STRAIGHT UP A HILL AND STRUCK A HOUSE, COMING TO REST THERE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO BE INSPECTED BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY. THE VEHICLE WAS DEEMED DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND WAS UNABLE TO ASSIST. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WERE NO FAILURES FOUND ON THE VEHICLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000. AS SOON AS YOU START VEHICLE....DASH SHOWS THAT THE AIR BAGS NEEDS TO BE SERVICES AND IT STAYS ON THE WHOLE TIME OF YOUR JOURNEY..WHEN I LIFT MY SEAT TO GET CORRECT POSITIONING TO DRIVE IT STARTS TO HAVE THE BELL SENSOR RING, LIKE WHEN YOU DON'T YOUR SEAT BELT ON....BUT I HAVE MY SEAT BELT ON/FASTENED,,TOOK TO MTN VIEW CHEVROLET/CHATTANOOGA, TN...THEY COULD NOT FIND A REASON WHY AND TOLD ME NO RECALL ON THIS VIN MODEL..SO I HAVE DECIDED TO ISSUE A COMPLAINT BEFORE SOMETHING HAPPENS AND THE AIR BAGS DO NOT DEPLOY.. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 102,000.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND HAD GOT CUT OFF BY A CAR. I SWERVED AND AVOIDED HITTING THE CAR BUT ENDED UP HITTING THE MEDIAN ALMOST DIRECTLY HEAD ON. THE WHOLE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE WAS SMASHED IN AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. THE AIRBAGS NEVER WENT OFF, ME AND MY PASSENGER WERE BOTH WEARING OUR SEAT BELT AND I ENDED UP HITTING MY HEAD ON THE STEERING WHEEL LEAVING ME UNCONSCIOUS. AN AMBULANCE RUSHED ME TO THE HOSPITAL AND I RECEIVED 10 STITCHES ABOVE MY LEFT EYE. *TR
WHILE APPROACHING INTERSECTION A VEHICLE TRAVELING PERPENDICULAR TO US FAILED TO STOP AT STOP SIGN. THIS VEHICLE ENTERED THE INTERSECTION AND WE "T-BONED" THE VEHICLE. OUR VEHICLE SUSTAINED A DIRECT HIT ON THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE AND THE AIR BAGS NEVER DEPLOYED. AFTER THE INITIAL COLLISION OUR VEHICLE REMAINED IN CONTACT WITH THE VEHICLE THAT FAILED TO STOP AND BOTH OF OUR VEHICLES WERE DRIVEN DIRECTLY INTO A TREE, THUS INCURRING ANOTHER SIGNIFICANT IMPACT ( MORE SIGNIFICANT THAN THE INITIAL COLLISION W/ THE OTHER CAR ) AND THE AIR BAGS STILL DID NOT DEPLOY. THERE WERE 2 PEOPLE IN THE FRONT SEATS AND 2 PEOPLE IN REAR SEATS. ALL SUSTAINED INJURIES AND NEEDED OR STILL REQUIRE MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE TWO PASSENGERS ON THE OTHER VEHICLE WERE FATALLY INJURED. THERE HAD NEVER BEEN ANY INDICATION OF AIR BAG FAILURE AND NEVER ANY WARNING "IDIOT" LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD EVER AT ANY TIME INDICATION ANY ISSUES W/ AIR BAG FUNCTIONALITY. WITH RECENT EVENTS SHOWING FAILURE OF GM AIR BAGS, I BELIEVE THIS IS ANOTHER INDICATION OF THIS FAILURE WHICH NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED. SAFETY FEATURES ARE SOMETIMES TAKEN FOR GRANTED IN VEHICLES, BUT WHEN NEEDED TO PERFORM, THEY ARE EXPECTED TO PERFORM AS ENGINEERED. THESE SAFETY FEATURES ARE FACTORED INTO THE DECISION MAKING OF VEHICLE PURCHASES AND ARE EXPECTED TO PERFORM. *TR
THIS COMPLAINT IS BEING FILED ON BEHALF OF THE VEHICLE OWNER AND DRIVER. THIS CHEVY TRAILBLAZER WAS INVOLVED IN A TWO VEHICLE, DOUBLE FATAL CRASH. THE FRONT OF THE TRAILBLAZER STRUCK THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR OF A CAVALIER THAT FAILED TO YIELD FROM A STOP SIGN. THE TRAILBLAZER STAYED CONNECTED WITH THE CAVALIER, FORCING IT OFF THE LEFT SIDE OF THE ROADWAY AND INTO A LARGE TREE. BOTH OCCUPANTS IN THE CAVALIER WERE FATALLY INJURED. THE FRONT AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY ON THE TRAILBLAZER AND NO EVENT WAS RECORDED ON THE AIRBAG CONTROL MODULE. *TR
MY WIFE WEIGHS ABOUT 100 #'S YET THE AIR BAG LIGHT SHOWS OFF. THIS IS A SAFETY ITEM.

IN APPROXIMATELY APRIL OF 2010 MY GAS GAGE ON MY 06 TRAILBLAZER QUIT WORKING. THE PART WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY AT 84K MILES. VERY DANGEROUS WHEN TRAVELING 400 MILES WITH ELDERLY AUNT AND SMALL CHILD 2X A WEEK. ON OCTOBER 1, 2010 I WAS INVOLVED IN A HIGH SPEED COLLISION WHEN A CAR PULLED IN FRONT OF ME, WHILE I WAS GOING 70MPH. THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY, I SUFFERED MAJOR TRAUMA TO MY KNEES AND AM UNABLE TO WALK WELL OR DRIVE. I HIT MY HEAD ON THE STEERING WHEEL AND CONTINUE TO HAVE PAIN. MY ELDERLY AUNT BROKE 3 CERVICAL VERTEBRAE AND STILL HAS A TRACHIOTOMY OVER A MONTH LATER. SHE IS STILL IN THE HOSPITAL, AND IT IS UNKNOWN IF SHE WILL COME HOME. *TR
MY PASSENGER SEAT BELT IN THE FRONT GOT STUCK. I TOOK THE TRUCK TO THE DEALER TO SEE IF THEY COULD GET THE SEAT BELT UNLOCK BUT THEY COULDN'T. SO I HAD NO OTHER CHOICE BUT TO HAVE THE DEALER CUT THE SEAT BELT. THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME THIS HAS HAPPEN AND WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE SEAT BELTS IN THE 2006 CHEVROLET TRAILBLAZERS. *TR
