TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET TRAVERSE. WHILE REVERSING, THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED AND REQUIRED EXCESSIVE FORCE. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000. UPDATED 11/18/15*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE DEALER FOUND THAT BOTH OF THE FRONT STRUTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND HAVE THE VEHICLE ALIGNMENT DONE. THE TRAVERSE COULD NOT BE DRIVEN AFTER THE REPLACEMENT OF THE FAILED POWER STEERING PUMP. UPDATED 2/3/2016 *JS *CN
ON SATURDAY AUGUST 1, 2015 AROUND 7 PM I WAS DRIVING BACK FROM A FAMILY THEME PARK WITH MY 5 CHILDREN. I HAD TO DRIVE 2 HOURS TO GET BACK HOME. I COULDN'T EVEN GET OUT OF THE PARKING LOT BECAUSE I COULDN'T TURN THE WHEEL IT WAS VERY HARD BOTH RIGHT AND LEFT. I GOT SCARED BECAUSE I AM PREGNANT AND I WANTED TO GET BACK HOME SAFELY. I MANAGE TO GET OUT BUT ON OUR WAY HOME EVERY TIME I STOPPED AND HAD TO MAKE A TURN IT GOT REALLY HARD AND HAD TO PUT MY EMERGENCY LIGHTS ON BECAUSE I HAD TO MAKE SLOWER AND WIDE TURNS AND SOMETIMES BACK UP AND TRY AGAIN TO TURN. I MANAGE TO GET HOME AROUND 10 PM. THIS IS MY ONLY CAR, I JUST BOUGHT IT 8 MONTHS AGO AND STILL HAVE 3 MORE YEARS TO PAY IT OFF. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME IT DOES THIS. WHEN I FIRST GOT IT OUT OF THE DEALER I TOOK IT BACK THE NEXT DAY BECAUSE IT WAS DOING THE SAME PROBLEM BUT ONLY WHEN TURNING TO ONE SIDE NOT BOTH. THEY FIXED IT BUT IT IS NOT EVEN A YEAR AND I HAVE THE PROBLEM AGAIN BUT WORST BECAUSE I CANT' TURN EITHER WAY. IF THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING WHEEL WHY HAVEN'T YOU RECALL IT? IT IS DANGEROUS TO DRIVE LIKE THIS. I JUST FIXED A FEW MONTHS AGO SOME TRANSMISSION PARTS BECAUSE THE TRANSMISSION BROKE. I KNOW THAT THE TRANSMISSION IS A ISSUE IN THIS CAR ALSO. THESE ARE SERIOUSLY SAFETY ISSUES. PLEASE HELP ME OUT.
GOOD MORNING, I HAVE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY STEERING WHEN IT COMES TO MAKING TURNS, ONE TIME I NEARLY HIT THE CURB TRYING TO PULL INTO MY DRIVEWAY. THE POWER STEERING FLUID WAS RECENTLY FILLED BUT THE PROBLEM STILL REMAINS. I'VE RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE AND NOTICED THIS PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED WITH OTHER CONSUMERS. I KNOW THERE WAS A SAFETY BAG AND SEAT BELT RECALL A FEW MONTHS BACK WHICH WAS TAKEN CARE OF AND NOW I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO ISSUE THE POWER STEERING RECALL. GM HAS HAD A LOT OF PROBLEMS, AND IT'S TIME FOR THEM TO STEP UP CORRECT THEIR ERRORS. IT'S A RELIABLE CAR, AND I LOVE IT, BUT WITH SAFETY ISSUES LIKE THIS SOMETHING HAS TO CHANGE.
I HAVE BEEN HAVING ISSUES FOR SEVERAL MONTHS NOW REGARDING THE STEERING. THE PROBLEM IS NOW OCCURRING MORE OFTEN. AT TIMES THE STEERING BECOMES STIFF MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO TURN. BASICALLY THE POWER STEERING CEASES TO FUNCTION MID-TURN WITHOUT ANY WARNING. THE VEHICLE GOES INTO MANUAL STEERING AND IT IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN THE WHEEL. I HAVE HAD THIS OCCUR WHEN ATTEMPTING TO PULL IN OR OUT OF A PARKING SPACE, TURN IN A PARKING GARAGE, TURN IN A STORE PARKING LOT, MAKING A TURN AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT, ETC. I HAVE MENTIONED THIS ISSUE TO THE DEALER BUT SAID THEY COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING. I HAD THE RACK AND PINION REPLACED TWO YEARS AGO BUT IT WAS NOT BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP WAS MAKING OTHERS REPAIRS AND NOTED THAT RACK AND PINION NEEDED REPLACEMENT. I HAVE NOT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE REGARDING THIS ISSUE. I NOTICED THAT THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS REGARDING THE SAME ISSUE WITH THE STEERING. WHY IS THIS PROBLEM NOT A RECALL? THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BEFORE IT CAUSES A FATALITY. THE STEERING PROBLEM CONCERNS ME AND I AM CURRENTLY LOOKING FOR ANOTHER VEHICLE.
WHEN ATTEMPTING TO TURN AT LOW SPEEDS THE POWER STEERING SUDDENLY FAILS AND VEHICLE CROSSES INTO TRAFFIC.
WATER PUMP WENT OUT (WASNT NOTIFIED IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY) HAD IT REPLACED. WATER PUMP WENT OUT AGAIN, DEALER REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. STEERING BEGAN WHINING AGAIN AND HAVE BEEN TOLD THATS NORMAL NOTHING MORE THEY CAN DO. ATTEMPTED TO GET RE-IMBURSEMENT FROM GM FOR WATER PUMP, NEVER HEARD A PEEP BACK FROM CORPORATE REGARDING MY REIMBURSEMENT FORM I MAILED IN. BASED ON LACK OF SERVICE FROM DEALERS/GM, WHEN CAR BEGAN REVING AT HIGH RPMS AND SHIFTING HARD, NON GM MECHANIC INDICATED WAVE PLATE FAILED AND TRASHED TRANSMISSION. TRANSMISSION WAS REBUILT AND THEN BEGAN THROWING TRACTION CONTROL & BRAKE SYSTEM WARNING LIGHTS. IRONICALLY, WHEN I FOUND THIS FORUM THIS WEEK, I NOTICED GM WAS COVERING THE WAVE PLATE ISSUE, YET THEY NEVER INFORMED US VIA MAIL OR PHONE. I PAID OUT OF POCKET. UPON CONTACTING GM, THEY GRACIOUSLY WAIVED THE 105.00 DIAGNOSTIC FEE AND INFORMED ME I NEEDED A NEW MASTER BRAKE CYLINDER . CORPORATE HOWEVER, APPRECIATED MY 30 YEARS OF LOYALTY BUT WAS UNABLE TO COVER THE COST (385.00) TO REPLACE THE CYLINDER. THEY WOULD CONSIDER GIVING ME A COUPON TOWARDS THE PURCHASE OF A FUTURE GM VEHICLE. FINALLY, AFTER HAVING MY MECHANIC REPLACE THE CYLINDER (SAVING ME $$) THE TRAVERSE THREW CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND AS A STOP SIGN WAS APPROACHED, THE BRAKES FAILED TO ENGAGE. HAD WE NOT DRIVEN OFF THE ROAD TO AVOID THE CAR STOPPED IN FRONT OF US, WE WOULD HAVE REAR ENDED THEM. LUCKILY THIS DIDNT HAPPEN TO MY WIFE WHEN SHE HAD THE KIDS WITH HER. WE LIMPED THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE MECHANIC WHO HAS FOUND THE BOOSTER IS FULL OF OIL AND HE IS STILL RESEARCHING THE CAUSE. HOWEVER, HE HAS INDICATED BASED ON THE BRAKE FAILURE HE WOULD NOT RECOMMEND MY WIFE AND KIDS GET BACK IN IT.
SUDDEN AND UNEXPECTED LOSS OF POWER STEERING AT LOW SPEEDS. TURNING THE VEHICLE AT LOW SPEEDS SUDDENLY BECOMES VERY, VERY DIFFICULT AS VEHICLE'S POWER STEERING ASSIST STOPS WORKING WITH NO WARNING.
6/9/2015 MY CAR WAS SERVICED AT THE CHEVY DEALERS REPAIR SHOP TO PREPARE FOR A LONG DISTANCE TRIP. THEY REPORTED I NEEDED 4 NEW TIRES. I ONLY AGREED TO REPLACE 2 REAR TIRES. I RECEIVED MY CAR 6/10/2015. 6/15/2015 ONLY 4 DAYS LATER ONE OF THE NEW TIRES BLEW OUT INTO 3 PCS (JUST MISSING SERIOUS OR FATAL INJURY). ONCE AAA INSTALLED THE SPARE TIRE I CALLED THE MANAGER OF THE CHEVY REPAIR SHOP IN NJ TO REPORT THE BLOW OUT & TO REQUEST THEY PAY FOR PENDING REPAIRS. HE STATED HE DID NOT HAVE A WAY TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS. HE ADVISED ME TO PAY FOR THE TIRE REPAIRS A REIMBURSEMENT. 6/15/2015 I WAS ADVISED THAT THE TIRE SENSOR WAS DESTROYED IN THE BLOW OUT. I ONLY REPLACED THE TIRE TO GET HOME (FORCED TO PURCHASE A TIRE @ $193.77). WHEN MY CAR RETURNED HOME. I CONTACTED GENERAL MOTOR (GM). A GM REP SAID THAT GM WOULD SPEAK TO THE CHEVY GARAGE ON MY BEHALF. GM CALLED AND REQUESTED I TAKE MY CAR TO A GOODYEAR REPAIR SHOP FOR INSPECTION, POSS REPAIRS AND POSS REFUND. FURIOUS AT SHOP & GM FOR PLACED DEFECTIVE TIRES ON MY CAR AND FOR A LACKED OF ACCOUNTABILITY AND A LACK OF OVER SITE FOR SUCH A DANGEROUS ACT. ONLINE I DISCOVERED THAT THE TIRES PLACED ON MY CAR ON JUNE 10, 2015 WERE RECALLED BY GOODYEAR BETWEEN DECEMBER 2014 AND FEBRUARY 2015. MY TIRES:TYPE: GOODYEAR HL EDITION FORTEGRA; SIZE: MTS P255/65R18; DOT# 4BXM ARDR 4614 & DOT# 4BXM ARDR 0515. I FOUND AN ONLINE LETTER FROM GOODYEAR TO ALL DEALERS MANDATING THEM TO RETURN ALL RECALLS. I SHELLED OUT $777.31 TO HAVE MY CAR READY FOR TRAVEL. DURING THE BLOW OUT I PUT OUT $193.77 TO GET MY CAR SAFELY BACK HOME. I PAID OUT $1,051.21 TO REPLACE 4 NEW TIRES. I THEN HAD TO COUGH UP $380.60 TO GET BRAKES AND ROTORS WHICH STOPPED WHEEL VIBRATION. THE GRAND COST WAS MORE THAN $2,402.89 WHICH DDI NOT COVER TIRE REMOVAL AND DONUT INSTALLATION. STILL MY CAR HAS NOT BEEN TOTALLY REPAIRED OR INSPECTED FROM THE BLOW OUT.
THE SERVICE STABILITRAK LIGHT AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT APPEARED AND OFF. WENT ON A BUSY HIGHWAY TRAVELING AT THE SPEED AROUND 55 AND IT SUDDENLY REDUCED ENGINE POWER DOWN TO 20MPH. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT OTHERS THAT I HAVE KNOWN THIS HAPPENED TO AS IT JUST DID MY HUSBAND. NO WARNING SIGNS AT ALL. I USE THIS VEHICLE EVERY DAY TO TRAVEL TO WORK SCHOOL AND SPORTS WITH MY 4 CHILDREN. IF ANYTHING HAPPENS SERIOUSLY GM WILL BE AWARE OF IT! I THINK IT SHOULD BE A RECALL I HAVE ALREADY READ 38 MESSAGES ABOUT THE SAME THING HAPPENING.~ AS TO THAT NOTE, I WILL NEVER OWN ANOTHER TRAVERSE OR CHEVY PRODUCT AT THAT!!
AT LOW SPEEDS, ESPECIALLY WHILE BRAKING, THE POWER STEERING FAILS. THIS HAS CAUSED SEVERAL CLOSE ACCIDENTS. THE LOSS OF STEERING ONLY OCCURS AT LOW SPEEDS; FOR EXAMPLE WHILE TURNING INTO A DRIVEWAY, DRIVING A STORE PARKING LOT, OR MAKING A TURN AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT.
HISTORY: I PURCHASED A CERTIFIED USED 2009 CHEVROLET TRAVERSE ON 10/22/2013 WITH A SERVICE CONTACT. THE VEHICLE HAS 44339 MILES. PRESENT: A FEW DAYS PRIOR TO MY CAR BEING SERVICED BEFORE A ROAD TRIP. I NOTICE WHAT TURN OUT TO BE A RED AIR BAG SERVICE LIGHT SYMBOL ON MY DASH BOARD THAT STAYS ON WHEN THE CAR IS RUNNING. ON JUNE 9TH 2015 AT 6:30 AM I DROPPED OFF MY CAR TO THE CHEVY DEALER'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT. AT 12 NOON I CALLED SERVICE TO GET FEEDBACK ABOUT MY CAR; I HOWEVER, HAD TO LEAVE A MESSAGE REQUESTING AN UPDATE ABOUT MY CAR. I RECEIVED A CALL FROM THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AFTER 2:30 PM. SHE STATED THAT THERE WAS NO COMMUNICATION WITH THE S.D.M. MODULE AND THAT THEY WOULD NEED TO CHECK FURTHER. SHE STATED THAT TO CHECK FOR THE TROUBLE IT WOULD COST CLOSE TO $600 AND IF THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE SMD IT WOULD COST ME $980.80. I ASKED WHY I SHOULD HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE A DEFECTIVE OR DAMAGED AIR BAG SERVICED OR REPAIRED ESPECIALLY WHEN IT BE IN SAFE WORKING ORDER. THE NEXT DAY I SPOKE WITH A SUPERVISOR AT MY JOB WHO SAID THAT HE HAS THE SAME CAR, SAME YEAR AND THE SAME COLOR AS MY CAR. HE HAD THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM WITH HIS CAR WHILE IT WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. HE SAID THAT HIS CAR WAS IN THE SHOP ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS WITH MULTIPLE DEALERS THEY NEVER COULD FIND OUT WHAT CAUSED THE AIR BAG LIGHT TO COME ON. HE SAID FINALLY THE AIR BAG LIGHT WENT OFF WITH NO EXPLANATION AFTER BEING SERVICE AT A DIFFERENT REPAIR SHOP FOR A DIFFERENT PROBLEM. NOW THE SIDE AIR BAG WAS RECALL FOR NOT WORKING PROPERLY. HOW CAN I FIND OUT ABOUT THE DEFECTIVE AIR BAG ASSOCIATED WITH THE 2009 CHEVROLET TRAVERSE? OR HOW MANY TIMES THIS CAR HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP FOR THE AIR BAG OR THE HISTORICAL PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH THE TRAVERSE. DEALER: CHEVROLET OF JERSEY CITY 905 COMMUNIPAW AVE. THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED ON A SATURDAY EVENING AS MY HUSBAND AND I WERE TRYING TO RETURN HOME AFTER BEING OUT. I WAS DRIVING AT THE TIME OF THE FAILURE. I WAS TRYING TO SPEED UP TO GAIN ACCESS TO THE HIGHWAY AND WAS ALREADY COMMITTED TO THE LANE AND I HAD OTHERS VEHICLES BEHIND ME AS WELL. THE TRANSMISSION WAS NOT GAINING SPEED AS I WAS PRESSING DOWN ON THE ACCELERATOR NOTHING WAS HAPPENING EXCEPT THE RPM'S WERE RAISING BUT NO RESPONSE FROM THE VEHICLE. WE HAD A CAR SWERVE OUT OF OUR WAY TO LET US GAIN ACCESS TO THE ROADWAY.I HAD NO MORE OF THE MERGING LANE AHEAD I HAD TO TRY AND MERGE WITH TRAFFIC.... THANK GOD MY SON WAS NOT IN THE VEHICLE THAT NIGHT!!!! AFTER DEALING WITH FRUSTRATED DRIVERS AROUND US, WE HAD FINALLY GOT ONTO THE HIGHWAY AND THE VEHICLE MADE A BANG AS IT TRIED TO CHANGE GEARS.WE STAYED IN THE RIGHT LANE AND TRAVELED TEN MILES APPROXIMATELY TO MAKE IT HOME. WHEN WE FINALLY GOT TO THE DRIVEWAY I BACKED IT IN AND IT WOULDN'T LET BACK ALL THE WAY INTO THE DRIVEWAY. REVERSE WAS FAILING AS WELL. CALLED GM ON MONDAY 6/1/15 AND THEY HAVE A SPECIAL BULLETIN ABOUT THIS PROBLEM, BUT YET THEY HAVEN'T ISSUED A RECALL!!!! WHAT IF WE HAD GOTTEN INTO AN ACCIDENT. WE BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE BECAUSE OF THE 5 * SAFETY RATING!!! I JUST HOPE THAT NO ONE ELSE FINDS THEMSELVES IN THIS SITUATION. GM IS FIXING THE "WAVE PLATE". SPECIAL BULLETIN 14404 : WHICH COVERS 3,5 AND REVERSE GEARS... WISHED WE WOULD HAVE HAD BEEN NOTIFIED OF THIS DEFECT EARLIER!!! OBVIOUSLY GM IS AWARE OF THIS SITUATION BUT STILL HASN'T ISSUED A RECALL. BUSINESS AS USUAL FOR GM.
ON MAY 28TH 2015, AFTER DRIVING MY VEHICLE ABOUT 100 MILES, I STOPPED TO PARK MY VEHICLE. I SHIFTED THE CAR INTO REVERSE. WHEN I ACCELERATED, THE ENGINE JUST REVVED UP. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT MOVE. LUCKILY, THE CAR WAS PARKED IN A RELATIVELY SAFE LOCATION AND I DIDN'T NEED TO MOVE IT FURTHER. THE FOLLOWING DAY I STARTED THE CAR AGAIN, SHIFTED INTO REVERSE AND MOVED THE CAR WITH NO ISSUES. THE VEHICLE DROVE FINE, INITIALLY. AFTER THE CAR WAS WARM AGAIN, I TRIED TO PUT IT IN REVERSE AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN, NO MOVEMENT. THIS WENT ON THROUGHOUT THE WEEKEND. ON MONDAY I CONTACTED THE DEALER AND SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT FOR TUESDAY. TUESDAY ON MY WAY TO THE DEALER THE SAME ISSUE HAPPENED, BUT THIS TIME IT WAS WHEN I WAS ACCELERATING BETWEEN 30 AND 40 MILES PER HOUR.
AFTER OPENING THE LIFT GATE MY WIFE WAS HIT IN THE HEAD WHEN THE LIFT GATE CAME DOWN AND HIT HER . I ORDERED NEW STRUTS THINKING THIS WAS THE PROBLEM . AFTER REPLACING THE STRUTS , THE LIFT GATE STILL FALLS WITHOUT WARNING , AND HAS HIT HER AND I ON 4-6 OCCASIONS .RECEIVED A LETTER FROM GM ABOUT THE PROBLEM , BUT AS OF 09-08-2015 THERE IS NO SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM. HOW MANY MORE TIMES MUST WE BE HIT ? THE REAR STORAGE AREA CANNOT BE USED UNLESS SOMEONE HOLDS LIFT GATE INCASE IT FALLS.
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING OUR KIDS TO SCHOOL WHEN SHE STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN, SHE REALIZED THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE IN FORWARD OR REVERSE. I AM GRATEFUL THIS HAPPENED WHILE SHE WAS STOPPED, HOWEVER, THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN IF CAR IS ON THE HIGHWAY CONSIDERING THAT THE PROBABLE CAUSE OF THIS IS THE 35R WAVE PLATE WITHIN THE TRANSMISSION. CHEVY KNOWS THERE IS A POSSIBLE PROBLEM WITH THIS, AND HAS ISSUED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THIS PIECE, HOWEVER, THIS PIECE IS CAUSING MORE PROBLEMS THAN IT SHOULD. *TR
I WAS DRIVING AND THE VEHICLE STARTING LOSING POWER THEN IT WOULDN'T START. AFTER A WHILE OF SITTING IT STARTED THEN LOST POWER AGAIN NOW IT WON'T STAY STARTED. *TR
POWER STEERING CEASES TO FUNCTION AT LOW SPEEDS, AS IN NO POWER STEERING AT ALL. HAS CAUSED NEAR COLLISION SEVERAL TIMES DURING SLOW SPEED TURNS AS POWER STEERING CEASES TO FUNCTION MID-TURN WITHOUT WARNING. THIS CAUSES MANUAL STEERING MODE ON A LARGE CAR IN A TIGHT SPACE. HAS ALSO HAPPENED AT MODERATE SPEEDS. MANUAL STEERING ON THIS CAR IS DIFFICULT FOR AN ADULT MALE. NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE FOR MY LADY DRIVERS. AGAIN, SIGNIFICANT SAFETY HAZARD AS IT OCCURS WITH NO WARNING.
THE STEERING GEAR IN MY 2009 CHEVY TRAVERSE HAS FAILED PREMATURELY FOR A SECOND TIME. THE PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED DURING A ROUTINE OIL CHANGE AT MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP. THE ORIGINAL STEERING GEAR WAS REPLACED AT 46,000 MILES IN 2011 AND MY VEHICLE REQUIRES A NEW UNIT APPROXIMATELY 43,000 MILES LATER. FAILURE TO REPLACE THE COMPONANT WILL RESULT IN STEERING DIFFICULTY THAT CAN LEAD TO A CRASH. TO PUT THIS IN PERSPECTIVE, I AM REPLACING THE STEERING GEAR AT THE SAME FREQUENCY ONE WOULD NORMALLY BUY NEW TIRES FOR VEHICLE. THERE ARE SEVERAL INDICATIONS THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH GENERAL MOTORS' LAMDA PLATFORM. VIA A 2012 SERVICE BULLETIN, GM MODIFIED THE STEERING GEAR PART NUMBER AND MADE CHANGES TO THE REPLACEMENT PROCESS TO PREVENT STEERING GEAR SEAL FAILURES. SECONDLY, A SERVICE MANAGER AT AN INDEPENDANT CHEVY DEALERSHIP CONFIRMED THAT HE HAS SEEN A SIGNIFICANT INCREASE IN STEERING GEAR FAILURES AT HIS FACILILTY. I RECEIVED A LETTER IN THE MAIL "ADVISING" ME THAT THIS VEHICLE HAS A "KNOWN" ISSUE WITH CRACKING TRANSMISSION PLATES - BUT - THEY WEREN'T GOING TO RECALL THE VEHICLES; JUST OFFER A 1 YEAR EXTENSION ON THE WARRANTY. I CALLED MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP TO ASK WHAT THE WARNING SIGNS WOULD BE THEY THEY ANSWERED PERFECTLY. THEY SAID "YOU WON'T GET ANY WARNING SIGNS. YOUR CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WILL COME ON AND THE VEHICLE WILL BE UNRESPONSIVE." NOW HOW ABOUT THAT TO MAKE THE CONSUMER FEEL SAFE. YOU SEE, I GREW UP IN THE AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY AND I ALSO KNOW THAT WITH THE ISO STANDARDS PROVIDED TO THE MANUFACTURERS; THE BIG MONEY MAKERS KNOW "EXACTLY" WHICH VEHICLE THESE FAULTY PLATES ARE IN. STEERING IS LOUD. HARD TO TURN. APRIL 09, 2015 DEALERSHIP STATED MY STEERING GEARS WERE LEAKING AND NEEDED RACK AND PINION REPLACED. QUOTED $1785. IT'S DIFFICULT TO STEER, LOCKS UP AND IS QUITE UNSAFE. CHEVY SHOULD REPAIR THIS ISSUE AT NO COST DUE TO THE SAFETY CONCERNS AND THE THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS.
DRIVING 2009 CHEVY TRAVERSE FRONT WHEEL DRIVE AND NOTICED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS NOT SHIFTING CORRECTLY. WHILE TAKING OFF FROM A STOP THE CAR MOVED SLOWLY THE SHIFTED HARD INTO GEAR CAUSING THE CAR TO LURCH FORWARD VIOLENTLY. BACK IN SEPTEMBER 2014, GM SENT A LETTER REGARDING A DEFECT IN THE STEERING COLUMN THAT CAUSES STEERING TO BE VERY DIFFICULT WHEN ATTEMPTING TO MANEUVER THE CAR AT LOW SPEEDS. THE LETTER STATES THAT GM WOULD COVER THIS MALFUNCTION WITHOUT CHARGE. WHEN MY CAR STARTED HAVING THE IDENTICAL SYMPTOMS THAT ARE LISTED IN THE LETTER, WE CALLED GM AND TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP. PER THE DEALERSHIP AND GM ALTHOUGH THE SYMPTOMS ARE IDENTICAL THE ORIGIN OF THE PROBLEM IS DIFFERENT; THEREFORE, THEY REFUSED TO COVER THE $1,200 REPAIR. BOTH PROFESSIONALLY AND ON COMPUTER "ON-LINE" WEB SITES, THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS OF EARLY FAILURES OF THE RACK & PINION STEERING, ON THE GMC ACADIA, BUICK ENCLAVE AND CHEVY TRAVERSE, SUV TYPE VEHICLES. I HAVE OWNED SEVERAL VEHICLES OVER THE LAST 30 YEARS AND NEVER HAD TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE RACK & PINION STEERING UNIT ON A VEHICLE THAT WAS LESS THAN TEN YEARS OLD (ONLY SIX, IN THIS INSTANCE) AND HAD SUCH LOW MILEAGE (RECENTLY PASSED 60,000 MILES). OBVIOUSLY, THERE IS A FLAW IN THE DESIGN OR IN THE PRODUCTION OF THIS STEERING MECHANISM. THERE ARE TOO MANY PREMATURE FAILURES ON THESE SERIES OF VEHICLES. GM SHOULD OWN UP TO THEIR MISTAKES, BUT AS WITH THEIR IGNITION SWITCH PROBLEMS, THEY WOULD RATHER IGNORE THE PROBLEM. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING HOME WHEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON VEHICLE LOST POWER AND STALLED AND WOULD NOT RESTART, VEHICAL WAS TOWED TO DEALER WHO STATED CATHLITIC CONVERTER HAD FAILED AND WOULD BE REPLACED. FOLLOWING REPLACEMENT DEALER STATED ENGINE BACKFIRED DURING TEST DRIVE INVESTIGATION REVEALED ENGINE FAILURE AND HAD TO BE REPLACED LUCKLY INSURANCE COVERED THIS REPAIR, FOLLOWING ENGINE REPAIR CAR WAS STARTED BUT STILL BACKFIRED INVESTIGATION REVEALED IGNITION COIL WAS DEFECTIVE.. RESHEARCH BY ME ON THE INTERNET SHOWED PROBLEMS WITH IGNITION COIL CAUSING ENGINE AND CATHLITIC CONVERTER PROBLEM, THIS PROBLEM COULD BE A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN IF DRIVING AT INTERSTATE SPEEDS THEN THIS PROBLEM OCCURES. *TR
DRIVING DOWN I30 AT APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, VEHICLE SLOWS DOWN TO 20 MPH WITHOUT ANY WARNING. THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON SOON AFTER OR MAYBE AS THE SPEED DROPPED. SHOOK ME UP LUCKILY THERE WAS VERY LITTLE TRAFFIC AND WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SHAKING OR SHOWED NO SIGN OF DAMAGE OTHER THAN IT NOT WANTING TO GO PAST 20 MPH. THE INCIDENT HAPPENED ONE EXIT AWAY FROM THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I GET THE VEHICLE SERVICED AND DECIDED TO DRIVE IT THERE. I AM BEING TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER FELL APART AND DAMAGED ENGINE CYLINDERS 3 AND 5 SO I WILL BE NEEDING THE ENGINE REPLACED. DO NOT KNOW IF THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER THAT FAILED WAS THE ONE THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED IN APRIL 2014. *TR
MY WIFE THE DRIVER WAS TAKING MY SON TO SCHOOL AND THE TRANSMISSION WAS MAKING A WINNING SOUND THEN THE TRANSMISSION FAILED. THANKFULLY THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT. TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THE CUSTOMER REP SAID THAT THE TRANSMISSION WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THEY SAID IT WOULD COST $4850. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED GM AND THEY SAID THAT I WAS UP BY 5 MONTHS ON WARRANTY. IT HAS A 100,000 MILE OR 5 YEAR POWER TRAIN WARRANTY. THEY WILL NOT HELP REPLACE MY TRANSMISSION OR GIVE GOOD WILL ASSISTANCE. IT REALLY MAKES ME MAD THAT THIS IS A KNOWN BULLETIN AND PROBLEM THAT GM IGNORES TO FIX. THE PROBLEM IS BULLETIN NO.: 09-07-30-012A WHICH IS A BROKEN 35R CLUTCH WAVE PLATE INSIDE THE TRANSMISSION CAUSING METAL SHAVINGS IN TRANSMISSION AN A TOTAL FAILURE ON THE TRANSMISSION. IT'S A $20 DOLLAR PART THAT COMES OFF AND IT DESTROYS THE TRANSMISSION. THANKFULLY MY FAMILY IS OK. I BELIEVE THAT GM SHOULD EXTEND THIS ISSUE UNDER WARRANTY AND FIX THIS PROBLEM BEFORE SOME GETS HURT OR KILLED. I WOULD HATE TO THINK WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF SHE WAS IN A METROPOLITAN AREA AND IT WENT OUT IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS!!!!!! THANKS *TR
DURING THE FIRST INCIDENT OF THIS PROBLEM THE CAR WOULD STUTTER/HESITATE/SHIFT STRANGE WHEN GOING UP A HILL AT HIGHER SPEEDS. THE PROBLEM CONTINUED FOR ABOUT ONE YEAR AND THEN HAD A TRANSMISSION FAILURE WITH NO SHIFT FROM 2ND GEAR TO 3RD, DIFFICULTY SHIFTING FROM 5TH TO 6TH, AND NO REVERSE. *TR
