I received a safety recall letter today for this vehicle stating that if not repaired, it could result in the death of the vehicle occupants… my wife and 3 daughters use this car daily for transportation and after contacting Chevrolet customer service and waiting on the phone for over 40min and speaking with multiple people, all they could tell me is they don’t know when they’ll be able to repair the vehicle and they have no other remedies available (replacement, reimbursement, rental, etc…). This is incredibly concerning as we don’t have another option right now, so according to GM, my only options are to risk the lives of my entire family every day for some indeterminate amount of time or I need to pay for a new vehicle until or unless GM eventually fixes the issue, or I just need to go without a vehicle now… This is completely unacceptable and needs attention immediately. I understand needing to wait or not know a timeline for minor recalls or non-life threatening issues, but it states right in the recall that it can result in death to the vehicle occupants (not even just the driver…). I need help ASAP and GM is unwilling to provide it.

Air bag recall- stated(Direct Quote from notice): “An inflator rupture may cause metal fragments to pass through the airbag and into the vehicle interior, which may result in injury or death to vehicle occupants” With such recall the safety and lives of myself and passengers are at risk every time the vehicle is driven. Safety recall letter/notice has a date of June 2023, sent in a first class mail envelope with no postmark date. This letter was not received until until Saturday July 1st 2023. During the time from recall issue (May 10,2023) my family and I were at risk of death or serious injury everyday. This recall has been confirmed for our VIN number by GM, our dealership, and this website. There is no remedy(repair part) at this time and there is no timeline for it. GM is not providing a safe option for my family to be able to do our daily tasks. As well as the ability to attend a funeral out of state for a family patriarch without personal costs for their negligence in safety. Our dealership is at the mercy of GM to be able to provide a vehicle without a safety recall. This has put an undue hardship and burden on my family.

In these vehicles, the front-driver airbag inflator may contain a supplier manufacturing defect that may result in inflator rupture during deployment. Safety Risk An inflator rupture may cause metal fragments to pass through the airbag and into the vehicle interior, which may result in injury or death to vehicle occupants. I reached out to GM to see what options I had/if it's safe for me to drive the car and the rep I spoke with told me the car is NOT safe to drive and if the airbag deploys it could cause death. I asked when would a fix be available and she said there isn't a fix and we don't know when one will be available. I called my local dealerships to see if they had any ideas as to what I should do and they said they don't have any suggestions it could be 6 months or more until they have parts in to fix your car. My wife and I both have jobs in separate directions and need two cars so we can get to work. I asked if they could provide us with a rental car since they deemed my car unsafe and said I could die driving and the agent I spoke with said GM wont provide us a car but she will escalate my case and i will here from someone in 4 days with an update. well here is 4 days and i get a call saying no one has picked up my case and I probably wont here anything until next week. I am very concerned for my safety and anyone who owns a car with this issue.

Chevy said they have no idea when they will have a fix and no other suggestions on how to make sure I can have a safe car to drive back and forth to work.
It is not safe for me to drive this SUV. After one year of visiting the Chevrolet car dealer, calling them many times and trying my best to get them to help me with this Takata airbag problem (since I got the recall notice); GM said they don't have the part. They also said they don't have another vehicle to give me until they get it fixed. We are very disappointed and we feel unsafe, my family members and I.
Air bag is at risk of rupture, causing injury or death. Letter was sent to us in June, and it's October with no remedy. We are about to head into winter with an unsafe vehicle. Plus after inquiring about trading it in at the dealership, we were told they could not give us a normal trade in value because it was considered not safe to sell with no remedy in sight. If it's not safe to sell, why are we being told to keep on driving these vehicles?

I wonder how long this unrepaired faulty air bag will take to get replaced? I read in the possible outcomes of a faulty airbag & it says flying metal can be FATAL. How long is the government going to let this go on? The NHTSA should put a stop build order on all new vehicles until they make repairs to the ones that are in the field waiting for recall parts. If you think GM gives a shit about what is in the field, you are sadly mistaken. I demand that our government get involved and start making GM get the parts & repair this recalled defect.
I received a recall notice dated June 2023 regarding the front driver airbag inflator. It may contain a defect resulting in inflator rupture during deployment. An inflator rupture may cause metal fragments to pass through the airbag and into the vehicle interior which may result in injury or death to vehicle occupants. To date, there is no remedy. I find that unacceptable.
I read about the airbag recall for our 2016 Chevy Traverse and confirmed or vehicle is affected.. I contacted GM and was advised not to drive the vehicle but that no remedy was in place at this time. I called 3 local dealers, none of whom would provide a loaner vehicle until a fix is available. This is our only vehicle and we are gambling with our life if we drive it.

Airbag recall is taking a really long time I have 5 children that have to ride in my 2016 traverse with an active airbag recall that states the inflator could shoot shrapnel into the cabin where my kids are at. I'd like for my kids to be safe while riding in my vehicle. How much longer is general motors going to take to get this issue fixed. It's been almost 6 months since the recall was issued. I've very upset about this.

Vehicle recall in May 2023 for 2016 Chevrolet Traverse (GM recall # N232404980 - NHTSA 23V334) for exploding driver airbag inflator causing metal shrapnel to fly into the cabin. Letters from General Motors should have been sent by June 26, 2023. To date I have not received a letter or instructions on how to remedy situation. Multiple local Chevrolet dealerships have been contacted (Stonebriar Chevrolet, Frisco, Texas and Classic Chevrolet, Grapevine, Texas), both dealerships have stated that General Motors has not created a fix for this dangerous issue to date. Public records also indicate a repair has not been created.
My safety or the safety of others are at significant risk everyday this vehicle remains unsafe with no remedy available. The safety recall was issued in May of 2023. It is now January of 2024 and I am driving a vehicle with airbags that may discharge shrapnel that can and will result in injury or death to myself and any vehicle occupants. This is unacceptable. Airbag remedies are not new, they are run of the mill at this point. What is the problem with making these cars safe to drive?
