I'm contacting nhtsa to make a recall request on chevys 2020 trax . less than 3 years old and has 23,300 miles , the chevy trax needed both control arms, both side tie rod ends , 2 alignments. I'm going to say to nhtsa I think chevy didn't manufacture the 2020 trax with strong enough front suspension and steering parts. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The both front bottom control arms . I asked the ourisman dealership to give them to me after the repair was paid they didn't give . and the ourisman dealership said it was only one bad inner tie rod end but both where bad . I had the tie rod ends replaced at independent service center and they kept and gave me the old bad tie rod ends. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? If these parts broke off during driving would be a deadly crash of multiple vehicles especially on a interstate. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes by to ourisman dealerships and one independent service center. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? by the chevy dealerships but they didn't give me the parts after the repair but I did ask for the parts. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No, didn't
I started my vehicle this morning and backed out of my driveway and when I went to shift out of reverse there was a sudden and violent jolt through the car and the check engine light came on and and the car information center displayed "Service Power Steering" with actual loss of power steering for approximately 45 seconds message cleared and my power steering returned to normal. Then "Service Stabilitrak" displayed on the information center and disappeared shortly after. Engine light remains on with fault codes P0700, U0100, and U0073 during diagnostic scan.
This is the 5th time my car has broken down with this problem, the brakes lock up on the highway and the "stabilitrak" service light comes on. (suspension) This time there was a gasoline tanker right behind me. If this man hadn't been such an experienced tanker driver, I would now be a bloody spot on the highway, my kids would be without their mom, my husband widowed and my grandchildren would have to be happy just hearing stories about me. I would be in the local grave yard, six feet under. So far, I have had a new fuse block, master cylinder, coil pack with plugs, abs module, pressure valve and a new brake switch. That was as of 2 weeks ago, my car broke down again last night, as reported above. My car, which I just made a payment of $635.00, and is just now at 51,000 miles is less than 3 years old. I am truly afraid to drive it, I don't know who to contact at Chevrolet or GMC there has to be some kind of recourse or are they not able to fix the BRAKES on a car???
This is the either 5th or 6th complaint for this vehicle. I am making after almost 6 months, most of which my car has been in the dealership. The brakes locked up in the parking lot at my bank, I noticed the signs that it was about to lock up and pulled into the parking lot before it threw a code. I was in fact on the phone with the dealership when it happened. They sent their tow truck and as of today the car has now been in their possession for 3 weeks. I got a call from the dealership telling me they are replacing the brake booster. This car now has over 2,700.00 in new parts, this doesn't count the labor cost. This includes, coil pack, plugs, master cylinder, fuse box, abs module and related pressure valve and brake switch. The manager said they are running out of ideas and parts to replace. When I asked him what happens if this still doesn't fix it, he said that that situation was to unheard of to consider. I pointed out that if the dealership can't find the problem then GMC needs to step up because I still have 3 years left to pay for this car and that eventually there either have already been others who've died or there will be in the future, because unless this car is defective, it can't be the only one like this. I wonder how many people have died from this and it just wasn't caught that this problem caused it. I also explained that my next step would be to find a lawyer.
This is the second complaint I have filed, but it is the 3rd time my car has been at the dealership for the same thing. The brakes lock up without warning and the traction control error light and stabilitrak error light come on. This time the transmission didn't go into limp mode it just shut down. The 1st repair, dealership told me that it was a corroded fuse block. I paid to repair that. The day the car was released back to me, it broke down, required towing 3 miles after I left the dealership. I towed it back. They said they couldn't find problem, I told them to drive exact same route, they did, it locked up again. Mechanic then said the master cylinder was binding up on the inside and it was replaced. Six weeks later it failed the same way again, had it towed. Dealership said it was the abs module and a valve, replaced those. They put a rush on it as it was right before Christmas, two days after Christmas it broke down again. It is currently at the dealership, and I was told that they can't figure out what's wrong with it????? Each time it has locked up, I have been in traffic, once doing 70 mph highway, once doing 60 mph highway I managed to pull off but then blocked an on ramp to a bridge on a highway, once going uphill in town at 35 mph. Each time I narrowly missed hitting other people and once almost got run over by a gasoline tanker. In any of these events I could have either died or killed someone else. Each time there was no warning at all, no lights, noises or anything. Even if I get my car back, I will be terrified to drive it. My husband said, and I quote, "I will bleed through my eyes before I buy another Chevy" end quote. My local dealership is doing everything they can, but I am getting frustrated, because sometimes they have a loaner car and sometimes they don't. I work two jobs, since my husband got sick with covid-19 last year and spent 10 days on a ventilator. He can't work like he used to, so I am picking up the slack, please help us.
This is the 3rd time this has happened in our vehicle, my second complaint here. I was driving on the interstate at posted limit of 60 when brakes began locking up on me. I got it off to the side of the road, I thought my car was going to flip over the brakes locked down so hard. Service stabilitrak light came on, abs light and traction control light came on. I called the dealership who told me onstar provided the stabilitrak code for it. They told me it would be 160 to have it hooked up to diagnostics, that if it isn't covered by warranty it is a customer assumed cost. My husband replaced the ignition coil and spark plugs thinking that it was the problem, well over 200.00 for parts. The car is now doing the same thing, but I noticed it happened an incline, then realized it happened the 1st and 2nd time on a decline. I am now wondering if the transmission isn't going out at 47,363 odometer miles. The dealership is no help, they have the actual codes but won't provide them or tell me what's wrong. All I know is that for a 25,000 k car, it's dangerous. I am lucky I was able to maintain control of the vehicle on an interstate highway.
My car brakes locked down while I was driving home from work, at 70 mph, posted speed limit. I got it to the dealership, it started out that it was a broken wire, now they tell me I need a new fuse box and it's not covered. My car was purchased in may of 2020 and has 47k miles on it. The repairs have gone from 412.00 dollars, not including the tow bill to 719.00 dollars, not including the tow bill. A fuse box shorting out at two years old, and locking down the brakes is absurd. I work at a trucking company and have 40+ years experience with no tickets or accidents, I don't know how my car didn't flip forward it stopped so hard, it's hard to think about what would have happened to someone with less driving experience than I have trying to control a car in the same instance. Please check on this, if you need to know, my car is now at Don Hall Chevrolet in Ashland KY, ph. 606-618-9616, my car is in their service center.
The vehicle looses power and jerks like the transmission is failing. It happens almost always when when going up a hill and also if the air conditioner is turned on the car can barely get out of its own way. I've almost been hit or rear ended several times trying to merge onto the highway because the car is jerking and barely wanting to move. I have now come to the point that I have to turn the AC off in a brand new car for for my own safety and to be able to get up to a normal speed when merging onto the highway. It has been doing this since I first got it but I didn't think there was really much I could do about it. I plan to call the dealer as well to have them look at it. There have never been any warning lights or any diagnostic issues detected but believe me a problem is there! Ive recently learned that the issues Im having with the jerking and barely any power when trying to accelerate has been a big issue in the Trax since 2016. And I can confirm its still happening! There were also a few instances with a warning light on the dash and it will tell me it can't detect something in the key and I couldn't start the car until I was able to get it to read properly after a few tries of removing the key. If my vehicle is needed for inspection, it is available at anytime!
Air bag light is on something about oil
My husband and I were leaving a local grocery store, when we began backing up and the "hillside assist" light came on for a 5% or so incline. So after backing up, we pulled out of the parking spot and our brakes began locking up, this continued all the way home (about 3 miles). The error msg, "service stabilitrak" came on when we were pulling into our driveway. We called the dealer where we purchased it because we have less than 48000 miles on it and they said that we may have repairs covered under the power train. However, stabilitrak is not part of the power train, I guess he didn't think I would know that. So we hung up, and did a little forum research and found out we would have to reset the computer to make it "unlock" the brakes. We unhooked the battery for half an hour and reset the computer and it worked, our car is running fine now. My husband was a truck driver for a decade, he knows how to drive in potentially risky situations. However, I think it should be investigated because of the potential safety risk. Since we were doing 25 mph or less this was easily handled for a short distance. However, this would be catastrophic if someone were on the highway when this happened. It could easily cause an accident at any speed. Anyone with less skill than a seasoned truck driver, could be killed if this happened to them. Please investigate this matter.

Something broke onthe suspension and I lost control of the car
The Turbo Charger was cracked and hanging. Not spinning. Would not accelerate over 40 mph. They replaced it. Engine light came on today 1-10-2022 while acceleration uphill.
While driving home from work doing approximately 70 miles per hour the rain channel insert on the passenger side of the vehichle separated from the clips that hold it into place. Gm and Chevrolet know the glue used to hold the parts together fails and allows for this to happen. Took the vehicle to the dealership to have it replaced and was told it was not warranted because my vehicle was over the bumper to bumper warranty. This channel guards can become projectiles at higher rates of speed. Reported drivers side channel failure to dealership in May and it was never replaced.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet TRAX. The contact stated while driving approximately 60mph when the contact was involved in an accident which resulted in the driver-side air bag not deploying, and the driver-side seatbelt not locking. Back in August 2021 I had to take my car to the dealership for a check engine light. There was an air leak going to the air intake. The check engine light just came back on and I took it back to the dealership and now they are having to replcae the turbo
UNKNOWN. On July 16, 2021 as I was about to enter my vehicle, I pulled open the driver door, and it scraped across my left calf. It definitely hurt, but I didn't think anything more of it. When I arrived at my destination I noticed a blood spot on my jeans. At that point there wasn't much I could do. So, when I got home (about 3-1/2 hours later) I looked at the wound (certainly not serious), put some disinfectant and a band aid on it. This was not the first time for this to happen. My greater concern is for children who may be standing too close to the vehicle when the door is pulled open. Thank you for your anticipated attention to this matter. Unfortunately, I seem to be unable to attach the photos that I took.

Since purchasing the vehicle brand new, the transmission went out at 30,000 miles (mostly the accelerator components), the water pump, motor, and fuel pump all went out around 90,000 miles. Have gotten all things fixed, but lights keep popping back up no matter what gets repaired. Excessive overheating—three signs light up on the dashboard: red thermometer indicating an overheating engine; check engine light; and check engine light with arrow pointing downward indicating engine speed to be reduced. This car is a danger to anyone in it or around it.
THE CAR LOST TURBO POWER, IT WAS IN THERE 3 TIMES AND THE REPAIR WAS NOT CORRECT. THE SERVICE MANAGER AT RON WESTPAHL, DAVID, SAID THERE IS A SERVICE BULLETIN OUT FOR THE IFOR THIS PROBLEM, IT IS A KNOWN PROBLEM IN THE NORTH WITH THE COLD WEATHER THE INVERTER GET CONDENSATION IN THE VEHICLE AND FREEZES. SINCE THE WEATHER HAS TURN WARMER THE CAR NOW RUNS WITH NO CHECK ENGINEER, BUT CHEVY HAS NOW REFUSED TO FIX IT BECAUSE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS NO LONGER ON. THIS INVERTER HAS BEEN REDESIGNED T O PREVENT THE CONDENSATION. IF THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM AND THEY REDESIGNED A PART THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL TO ALL CHEVY TRAX IN THE NORTHERN REGION
WITHIN TWO DAYS OF GETTING THE CAR WITH 7 MILES ON IT, AS SOON AS I GOT OVER ONE HUNDRED MILES, THE CAR TEXTED ME AND SAID THAT I NEED TO GET THE EMISSIONS SERVICED ON THE VEHICLE. LAST TIME I WENT THROUGH THIS WITH KIA... THEY FIXED IT TWICE AND THEN MY ENGINE PRETTY MUCH DIED AND THEY BLAMED ME (ON A 7 YEAR OLD CAR)
WHEN I'M STOPPED AND I TAKE MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE THE TRANSMISSION SLIPS AND SLAMS INTO GEAR
THERE IS A NOISE IN THE RIGHT PASSENGER DOOR, THE TRANSMISSION JERKS OFTEN WITHOUT GIVING IT GAS, AND THE RADIO SCREEN BLACKED OUT WHEN GOING OVER A RAILROAD TRACK
RADIO SCREEN GOES BLACK AND NO BUTTONS WILL WORK NOR THE RADIO WILL NOT SHUT OFF
This vehicle was sold to me with only one buckle fastener in the backseat when there’s three seatbelts. It somehow passed General Motors and the dealerships as a “safe vehicle”. I’ve been trying to get in contact with a manager since the beginning of this year and received no response. I’ve included photos of the multiple attempts of contact and back seat with only one buckle. I want the car to be taken back immediately as the dealership is careless and unresponsive.
