FCA RECALL T36/NHTSA 17V-435 NOTIFIED SIX (6) MONTHS AGO REGARDING ALTERNATOR DIODE THERMAL FATIGUE WHICH MAY RESULT IN ALTERNATOR FAILURE WHILE DRIVING AND CAUSING A RISK OF CRASH. ALSO, MAY DEVELOP A RESISTIVE SHORT CIRCUIT THAT CAN RESULT IN HEAT, SMOKE AND/OR FIRE ORIGINATING WITHIN THE ALTERNATOR. AS OF 01/09/2018, I FORTUNATELY HAVE NOT EXPERIENCED A PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER STATES THEY DO NOT HAVE THE PARTS TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. I AM OF THE OPINION THEY HAVE NO INTENTION OF RESOLVING THE PROBLEM. IF THEY WAIT LONG ENOUGH, WE WILL FORGET ABOUT THIS RECALL. WOULD THE NHTSA PLEASE INTERCEDE REGARDING THIS MATTER?
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 CHRYSLER 300. WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A UNKNOWN DEALER WHERE IT WAS INFORMED THAT THE WARRANTY DID NOT COVER THE REPAIR, AND THAT THE AIR BAG NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 155,409.
VEHICLE ALERTED "BATTERY SAVER MODE" AND SHUT DOWN MANY OF THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS. I IMMEDIATELY STOPPED DRIVING AND CALLED AAA BY THE TIME THEY ARRIVED AND ATTEMPTED TO TOW, THE VEHICLE WOULD NO LONGER TURN ON. BROUGHT TO LOCAL DEALER. THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE ALTERNATOR HAD FAILED AND FRIED THE BATTERY. SINCE I HAVE THE 180AMP ALTERNATOR IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE CURRENT RECALL. FROM MY RESEARCH IT SEEMS THAT THE 180AMP ALTERNATOR ARE HAVE THE EXACT SAME ISSUES AS THE 160AMP ALTERNATORS THAT ARE CURRENTLY BEING RECALLED.
I FOUND A RECALL FOR CHRYSLER 300 (N65), BUT IT'S ONLY FOR A 3.6L MODEL. I HAVE A 5.7L HEMI AWD AND THE OUTPUT SHAFT JUST BROKE WHILE DRIVING IN THE HIGHWAY. I CANNOT BE THE ONLY ONE... THERE HAS TO BE OTHERS. I JUST HAD ANOTHER RECALL FIXED ON THIS CAR. THEY JUST NEED TO RECALL THIS ENTIRE MODEL. IS THERE ANY CHANCE 5.7L WILL ALSO BE RECALLED ON THIS ISSUE?
THE CAR SIMPLY SHUT DOWN, NO WARNING, DRIVING ABOUT 60 ON AN INTERSTATE. NOTHING WOULD WORK, POWER-STEERING WAS OUT, NO BRAKES, NOTHING. THE ALTERNATOR WAS BAD. CHRYSLER HAS A RECALL ON "SOME" OF THE VEHICLES WITH A 3.6L ENGINE AND A 160 AMP ALTERNATOR BUT IT APPEARS THE SAME THING IS HAPPENING TO VEHICLES WITH DIFFERENT TYPE ENGINES OR AMPS. THIS SERIOUSLY NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. I HAVE RESEARCHED ON THE INTERNET AND THERE ARE MANY MANY COMPLAINTS AND CHRYSLER'S DEALERSHIPS, CUSTOMER SERVICE, ETC....SIMPLY SAY NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL. THESE CARS ARE DEATHTRAPS WAITING TO HAPPEN.....THE CARS SIMPLY STOP!!!!
TRANSMISSION SHIFTS FUNNY. JOLTS DURING SHIFT AND IT HESITATES TO SHIFT GEAR AT PICK UP SPEED. IT'S A POTENTIAL HAZARD THAT COULD CUASE AN ACCIDENT.
I WASN'T DRIVING MY VEHICLE ON A BUSY HIGHWAY. THE VEHICLES ELECTRICAL SYSTEM STARTED GOING CRAZY. HEAT TURNED ON, WINDSHIELD WIPERS TURNED ON, BLINKERS GOING OFF, RADIO TURNED OFF. POWER STEERING, GAS AND BRAKES STOPPED WORKING. WAS STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY HIGHWAY BECAUSE OF THIS AND LUCKY I DID NOT GET HIT BECAUSE OF THE SPOT I WAS IN. I GOT THE CAR TOWED AND SENT TO A MECHANIC. IT WAS THE ALTERNATOR THAT WENT BAD AND IT BURNED THE BATTERY SO HAD TO GET THAT REPLACES AS WELL. VERY DANGEROUS WITH NO WARNING SIGNS. I HAVE HEARD THIS PROBLEM IS COMMON IN THESE VEHICLES.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER (EARNHARDT CHRYSLER JEEP DODGE RAM, 1521 E DRIVERS WAY, GILBERT, AZ 85297, (480) 926-4000) WHO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED PER AN UNKNOWN RECALL FOR THE POWER TRAIN; HOWEVER, THE REMEDY FAILED TO PERMANENTLY REPAIR THE VEHICLE. DURING THE MOST RECENT FAILURE, THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO SHIFT FROM DRIVE TO ANY OTHER GEAR. THE VEHICLE INDEPENDENTLY SHIFTED OUT OF GEAR, WHICH CAUSED THE CONTACT TO APPLY PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL AND APPLY THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. THE CONTACT HAD TO TURN INTO A HANDICAPPED SPACE WITH A CONCRETE BARRIER TO PREVENT THE VEHICLE FROM CRASHING INTO A BUILDING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE SAME DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS A SHIFTING FAILURE AND THE COMPUTER FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DRIVER WAS SHAKEN UP BY THE INCIDENT AND WAS UNABLE TO USE THE FOB TO TURN THE VEHICLE OFF. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE, AND STATED THAT THERE WAS NO MANUFACTURER RECALL TO ADDRESS THE REPAIR. THE CONTACT HAD TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 93,149.
I HAVE A 2013 CHRYSLER 300S. WHILE DRIVING AT A SPEED AROUND 45 MPH IN CITY DRIVING, CAR STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION WHILE TURNING LEFT AT FRONT OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC. SECONDS LATER THE CAR SHUT OFF COMPLETELY LEAVING ME WITH NO OR LITTLE CONTROL OVER STEERING. THE RADIO TURNED OFF, LIGHTS IN CAR STARTED FLASHING ON AND OFF, SCREENS ON THE DASH TURNED WHITE, AND ALL ERROR LIGHTS ON DASH TURNED ON. BURNING ELECTRICAL/RUBBER SMELL FILLED THE CAR. ALL ISSUES IDENTICAL TO THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V634000. I CHECKED MY VIN TO SEE IF MY CAR WOULD BE COVERED BUT IT WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. UPON FURTHER RESEARCH THERE HAS BEEN NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ON EXACT MODELS OF MY CAR THAT WERE ALSO NOT COVERED. I AM VERY THANKFUL MY CAR WAS ABLE TO GET OUT OF THE WAY OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC BEFORE ANOTHER VEHICLE HIT US BECAUSE MY KIDS OR MYSELF PROBABLY WOULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED OR EVEN WORST, KILLED. ONCE CAR CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP, I TRIED RESTARTING THE VEHICLE. THE CAR WOULD TRY TO START BUT THE ENGINE WOULD NOT EVEN BE ABLE TO TURN OVER. ALL LIGHTS AND SWITCHES INSIDE THE CAR WERE NOT WORKING PROPERLY. LIGHTS TURNING ON AND OFF, HEATER WAS BLOWING WHEN WE HAD IT SET TO AC, PUSHING ON THE BREAK WOULD TURN OFF ALL LIGHTS IN THE CAR, ETC. I HOPE WITH ALL THE MULTIPLE COMPLAINT, AND POTENTIAL TO CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY, THEY WILL CONSIDER RECALLING THE ADDITIONAL MODELS OF ALTERNATORS THEY ARE CLEARLY HAVING THE SAME DEFECTS.
ON 22 MAR 2017, MY 2013 CHRYSLER 300 STARTED SMOKING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. I PULLED OVER TO SEE WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS AND NOTICE THE SMOKE WAS COMING FROM MY ALTINATOR. GETTING IN TOUCH WITH MY INSURANCE TO SET UP A TOW TO TAKE IT TO A DEALERSHIP. WHILE I WAS ON THE PHONE THE MY ALTINATOR CAUGHT ON FIRE, QUICKLY PUTTING IT. CONTINUING WITH MY CONVERSATION IT STARTED UP AGAIN FOR A 2ND TIME. FINALLY ONCE THE TOW TRUCK SHOULD UP, THEY TOOK IT TO COLORADO SPRINGS DODGE, 7455 AUSTIN BLUFFS PKWY COLORADO SPRINGS, CO 80923 719-475-8550. I ASK THEM IF THEY HAD ANY RECALLS FOR THIS UNUSUAL PROBLEM. THEY TOLD ME NO, I ENDED UP PAYING IT OUT OF POCKET, $936.35 TO REPLACE THE ALTINATOR AND BATTERY. I SEE TODAY THAT YOUR WEBSITE HAS SHOWN ME THEIR ARE PROBLEMS WITH THE ALTINATOR FAILING. IF THERE'S ANY INFORMATION YOU CAN PASS DOWN TO ME TO HELP ME GET MY MONEY BACK I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE IT. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME.
MY CHRYSLER 300 LX STATED HAVE TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS AND I WENT TO A CHRYSLER AFTER I HAD IT LOOK AT, AT A MECHANIC SHOP, BECAUSE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME OWN. , ALL THEY DID WAS HOOK UP THE CAR FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST, THE PRINT OUT READ SOMETHING TO DO WITH POWER TRAN MODUAL. THEY SAID TAKE IT TO CHRYSLER, SO I DID. CHRYSLER SAID THE COMPUTER LOCKED UP THE CODES, SO THEY CAN NOT GET A READING OF THE PROBLEM. I SAID CAN YOU DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT, THEY SAID UNTIL THE LIGHT COMES BACK OWN, THEY CAN NOT DO NOTHING. I SAID THE CAR IS UNSAFE, THEY SAID NOTHING. I CALL CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SERVICE, THEY SAID NOTHING THEY CAN DO. MY CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE, THE PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION IS COVERED, AND I NEED ME CAR. I AM OWN BLOOD THINNERS AND HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE PILLS, I HAVE TO HAVE MY BLOOD MONITORED. CAN SOME BODY HELP ME.
MOVING STRAIGHT ON CITY STREET. HIT ON DRIVERS SIDE WITH SUCH FORCE THAT MY CAR WAS SPUN AROUND. SIDE CURTAIN FRONT & REAR AIR BAGS AND FRONT SEAT-MOUNTED SIDE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY.
DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT APPX 30-40 MPH AND CAR STARTED SMELLING LIKE SMOKE, STARTED MAKING A HIGH PITCHED HUMMING SOUND, THE ABS BRAKE LIGHT, THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ALL CAME ON AND THE SMOKE GOT WORSE, SCARED IT MAY HAVE BEEN A FIRE UNDER MY HOOD. I CHECKED ALL OF THE RECALLS AND MY CAR DOES NOT FALL UNDER ANY OF THEM ALTHOUGH I SAW MANY OF THE SAME COMPLAINTS HERE ON THE SITE. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS, ESPECIALLY HAVING CHILDREN IN THE CAR. MY CAR IS NOW AT THE DEALER AND WAS THERE JUST LAST WEEK FOR ANOTHER ELECTRICAL PROBLEM. I WILL CONTINUE TO CHECK THE SITE SINCE THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A DEFECT FROM THE MANUFACTURER. ALSO, MY CAR WAS JUST WORKED ON THERE AT THE DEALER LAST WEEK FOR AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE AND THE PROBLEM WAS NOT DISCOVERED AT THAT TIME, DEALER IS NOT BEING VERY HELPFUL, THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS TO BE IN THE CAR WITH MY KIDS AND MY CAR STARTS SMOKING! - I HAVE VIDEO OF IT HAPPENING FROM LAST NIGHT THAT WILL NOT UPLOAD HERE, PLEASE CONTACT ME! THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT DIAGNOSED AND THE FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM WAS REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE, BUT DID NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 35,500.

THE CONTACT'S MOTHER WAS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE AND SUSTAINED INJURY TO HER LEGS AND THE CHEST. MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS REQUIRED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC BUT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT END WAS DAMAGED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE RECEIVED A RECALL NOTIFICATION LETTER OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V240000 (POWER TRAIN). A LOCAL DEALER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. ROTATED TIRES, LUG NUT HAD TO BE CHISELED OFF ,AS METAL CAP OVER LUG NUT EXPANDED ,SO NORMAL LUG WRENCH WOULD NOT WORK. HAD TO REPLACE LUG NUTS. WAS DONE AT DEALER , IF I HAD A FLAT ON THE ROAD CAR WOULD HAVE TO BEEN TOWED IN.

THE ALTERNATOR FAILED AND SPARKED A SMALL FIRE. CAUSED IMMEDIATE ENGINE FAILURE STRANDING ME 120 MILES FROM HOME. VEHICLE HAS 50,000 MILES ON IT. THIS IS AN UNSAFE SITUATION. THIS CAR IS NOT COVERED UNDER RECALL AS IT HAS THE HEMI. MAYBE IT SHOULD BE COVERED.

MY ENGINE LIGHT HAS TURNED ON AND THE READING SAYS IT'S CYLINDER #2 MISFIRE. IT CAME OUT OF NO WHERE AND FROM WHAT I'VE SEEN AND HEARD IT IS A COMMON ISSUE. MY CAR IS BASICALLY BRAND NEW AND VERY WELL TAKEN CARE OF BUT IT HAS NEEDED EVERY RECALL AND FOR SOME REASON SOMETHING THIS SERIOUS AND COMMON IS NOT COVERED. IT SHAKES WHILE IT IDLES IT'S NOT RUNNING GREAT AND THIS COULD BRING ON MANY MORE PROBLEMS.

I HAD SUDDEN ELECTRICAL BURNING SMELL INSIDE CAR AND SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. DEALER REPLACED ALTERNATOR UNDER MY SERVICE CONTRACT (OUT OF WARRANT) SO IT COST ME $100.00 INSTEAD OF 700-900 DOLLARS. IT PRETTY CLEAR THESE 180 AMP ALTERNATORS SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. CHRYSLER ONLY CARES ABOUT THEIR BOTTOM LINE. I WANT MY $100.00 BACK CHRYSLER.

ON 7.4.16 AT APPROXIMATELY 9PM, I WAS AT A TRAFFIC INTERSECTION WAITING FOR THE LIGHT TO TURN GREEN. SUDDENLY, MY CAR RADIO SHUT DOWN, AND ON THE INFORMATION SCREEN, A 'BATTERY SAFE MODE' MESSAGE APPEARED. THEN THE LIGHTS WENT DIM, THE INFO-SCREEN FLASHED WHITE, AND THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS STARTED MOVING VERY SLOWLY. AT THAT POINT, I TRIED TO PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND SHUT IT OFF, BUT THE SHIFTER WAS NOT RESPONSIVE. THEN, ALL THE SCREENS WENT OUT AND THE CAR DIED. I CALLED MY ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE TO COME TO EITHER JUMP OR TOW MY CAR. THE TECHNICIAN SHOWED UP AND TRIED TO JUMP START THE VEHICLE, BUT TO NO AVAIL. THE CAR WAS THEN TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP. THE REPAIR SHOP DISCOVERED THAT THE 180 AMP ALTERNATOR WAS FRIED (IN THEIR WORDS) AND THE ALTERNATOR FRIED THE BATTERY AS WELL. THE REPAIRS TOTALED APPROXIMATELY NINE HUNDRED DOLLARS! (NOTE) THE FIRST NEW ALTERNATOR THEY INSTALLED WAS FAULTY. FOR A CAR UNDER 3 YEARS OLD, MAINTAINED IMPECCABLY, THIS IS RIDICULOUS TO HAVE AN ALTERNATOR FAIL IN SUCH A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH CHRYSLER CORP. AND DISCOVERED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON A 160 AMP ALTERNATOR IN THE CHRYSLER 300. I ASKED AND THEY ADVISED ME THAT THE MANUFACTURER FOR BOTH THE 160 AND 180 AMP ALTERNATORS IS THE SAME. THE RECALL (OCTOBER 8, 2014) FOR THE SMALLER 160 AMP ALTERNATOR IS ; NHTSA RECALL #14V-634, AND CHRYSLER RECALL # P60 RESPECTIVELY. IT SEEMS LIKE THE PROBLEM EXISTS ON BOTH ALTERNATORS. CHRYSLER CORP. SHOULD TAKE A PROACTIVE AND NOT REACTIVE STANCE AT THIS POINT.

MY VEHICLE IS A CHRYSLER 300S AND HAS AUTO SHIFT "PADDLES" LOCATED A FEW INCHES FROM THE STEERING WHEEL AND THE AUDIO SYSTEM CONTROLS. ANY SLIGHT TOUCH TO THESE PADDLES WHILE DRIVING CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO IMMEDIATELY DOWNSHIFT INTO FIRST GEAR, REGARDLESS OF HOW FAST YOU ARE TRAVELING. ACCORDING TO THE OWNER'S MANUAL THIS DOWNSHIFTING INTO FIRST GEAR SHOULD BE NO PROBLEM, BUT I STRONGLY DISAGREE. I CAN SEE THE RPMS SOAR AS MY VEHICLE TRIES TO GO 70 MPH IN FIRST GEAR. THIS IS A DANGEROUS ADD-ON THAT FEW DRIVERS WANT OR NEED. I HAVE ASKED WHETHER THESE "PADDLES" CAN BE DISABLED AND HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO FIND A SOLUTION. THESE PADDLES ARE NOT ONLY WORTHLESS TO THE AVERAGE DRIVER, BUT ARE A MAJOR HAZARD ON THE HIGHWAY.
