ON MAY 18, 2020 AS I WAS DRIVING AT ABOUT 25 MPH, I HEARD A SCRAPING NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR GLASS AREA. I PULLED OVER TO DETERMINE WHAT WAS THE PROBLEM. I THEN NOTICED THE REAR GLASS WINDOW HAD FALLEN INTO THE CAR, HELD INTACT BY THE REAR DEFROSTER CORD CATCHING IT AND LOOSELY DANGLING IN THE BREEZE. I INFORMED CHRYSLER OF THIS PROBLEM (CHRYSLER CUSTOMER HOTLINE 1-800-992-1997, CASE NUMBER 76293394), BUT THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE, EVEN THOUGH I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE AND HAVE FOUND MANY COMPLAINTS THROUGH GOOGLE AND YOUR OWN WEBSITE, NHTSA.GOV. IF I HAD BEEN DRIVING AT AN INTERSTATE SPEED OF 65 MPH, THE GLASS COULD HAVE ENTERED THE VEHICLE AND KILLED ME! I HAVE ALSO LEARNED THAT CHRYSLER GAVE A 10 YEAR/100,000 MILE WARRANTY TO OWNERS OF 2005 CROSSFIRES WITH THE SAME ISSUE! I DEMAND NOT ONLY AN APOLOGY FROM CHRYSLER ALONG WITH A NO CHARGE REPAIR OF THIS CONDITION, BUT ALSO THE SAME TREATMENT 2005 OWNERS RECEIVED, THE 10 YEAR/100,000 MILE WARRANTY. THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN METICULOUSLY MAINTAINED SINCE DELIVERY, DRIVEN SPARINGLY, AND GARAGED NIGHTLY. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ASSISTANCE IN THIS MATTER. *TR
REAR GLASS OF SOFTOP HAS COME LOOSE FROM MATERIAL. THIS IS A DANGEROUS ISSUE SINCE THE CAR ABLE TO BE DRIVEN SAFELY. 2005 CARS OF SAME MAKE AND MODEL HAS HAD AN EXTENDED WARRANTEE PROVIDE TO IT, WITH MANY OWNERS RECEIVING FULL REPLACEMENT OF SOFT TOP AT NO COST TO THEM. THIS HAPPENDED WHILE THE CAR WAS STATIONARY, SITTING IN MY GARAGE, IN JACKSONVILLE FL. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THIS CAR AND THIS CAR WAS DELIVERED IN WHAT 'CHRYSLER' HAS DEEEMED TO BE 'HOT WEATHER STATES' (FL) FROM THEIR 2005 REPLACEMENTS OF THE SAME EXACT ISSUE.
I HAVE A 2007 CHRYSLER CROSSFIRE CONVERTABLE. AS I WAS DRIVING I NOTICED A WEIRD CHANGE OF NOISE, I SOON REALIZED THAT THE REAR WINDOW WAS 75% DETACHED AND FLOPPING AROUND HELD BY THE DEFROSTER CONNECTION! I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY COME TO A STOP BEFORE IT FLEW OUT OR SHATTERED. CHRYSLER EXPLAINED TO ME THAT THE 10 YEAR 100,000 EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR REAR GLASS ON CHRYSLER CONVERTABLES DOES NOT APPLY TO MY VIN NUMBER? HOW CAN IT APPLY TO SOME AND NOT ALL???? THAT IS UNACCEPTABLE THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. THEY OBVIOUSLY KNOW THIS IS A KNOWN DEFECT. ARE THEY WAITING TO CAUSE AN ACCIDENT WHERE THERE IS LOSS OF LIFE? PLEASE HELP
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHRYSLER CROSSFIRE CONVERTIBLE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, THE CONTACT FELT A BREEZE AND NOTICED THAT THE REAR WINDOW HAD DISENGAGED FROM THE FRAME OF THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE ROOF NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000.
THE REAR WINDOW IS SLOWLY BUT SURELY SEPARATING FROM THE CONVERTIBLE TOP.
WHILE PARKED, THE REAR CONVERTIBLE TOP GLASS WINDOW SEPARATED FROM THE FROM THE FABRIC AND IS HANGING DOWN-- OBSTRUCTING REAR VISION, PREVENTING TOP OPERATION, AND MAKING THE CAR NOT WEATHER TIGHT.
I'M "COPYING/PASTING" SOMEONE ELSE'S WORDS AS THEY HAVE DESCRIBED EXACTLY WHAT I'M EXPERIENCING! I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE IN SEPTEMBER, 2013 AND HAVE JUST NOW EXPERIENCED THE FOLLOWING PROBLEM. I'VE ALSO DONE AN ONLINE SEARCH & CAME ACROSS THIS SITE W/OTHER COMPLAINTS FILED! I WILL KEEP LOOKING FOR OTHER SITES TO FILE THE SAME COMPLAINT UNTIL SOMETHING IS DONE! "I OWN A 2007 CHRYSLER CROSSFIRE ROADSTER (CONVERTIBLE). THE GLASS IN THE REAR WINDOW IS SEPARATING FROM THE CANVAS TOP. THE TOP HAS NO SIGNS OF DAMAGE IN ANY OTHER AREA. THE DEALER IS TELLING ME THAT IT NOW NEEDS A NEW TOP AT A COST IN EXCESS OF $2,000. AFTER DOING RESEARCH, I DISCOVERED THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM AND APPEARS TO BE A MANUFACTURING DEFECT IN THE ADHESIVE USED TO CONNECT THE TWO PIECES. THERE WERE APPARENTLY MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE 2005 VERSION OF THIS CAR, SO CHRYSLER HAS EXTENDED THE WARRANTY TO 100,000 MILES...AND COVERED THE REPLACEMENT OF THE TOPS ON THOSE CARS. FOR SOME REASON THEY ARE REFUSING TO DO SO ON THE 2007 MODEL. I CAN SEE ONLINE THAT MANY PEOPLE HAVE THIS SAME PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR BUT PERHAPS ENOUGH COMPLAINTS HAVE NOT BEEN FILED. PLEASE DOCUMENT MY CLAIM IN THE HOPES THAT CHRYSLER WILL STAND BY THEIR PRODUCT AND REPAIR THIS DEFECTIVE ROOF. I OWN TWO CROSSFIRE CONVERTIBLES; A 2005 AND 2007. IN 2010 MY GLASS FELL OUT OF MY REAR TOP IN THE 2005 CROSSFIRE AT THE AIRPORT . WHEN I GOT BACK IT HAD FALLEN COMPLETELY OUT EXCEPT FOR THE CORD CONNECTING THE DEFOGGER. THIS DAMAGED A COMPUTER PART WHICH COST OVER $1000 IN THE TRUCK FROM WATER. ANYWAY IN JULY OF 2014 THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED TO MY 2007 CROSSFIRE CONVERTIBLE. OVER A PERIOD OF A FEW DAYS THE REAR GLASS JUST FELL COMPLETELY OUT. THE GLUE JUST GAVE WAY. ( WHAT EINSTEIN THOUGHT ANY GLUE WOULD HOLD A HEAVY PLATE GLASS WINDOW TO CANVAS ANYWAY). BOTH OF THESES CARS HAVE BEEN ONLY GARAGE KEPT. ANYHOW I TOOK THE CAR TO CHRYSLER AND THEY TOLD ME I WOULD HAVE TO PAY $2540 TO GET A NEW TOP EVEN THOUGH I HAD THE EXTENDED BUMPER TO BUMPER INSURANCE PROTECTION. THE PLAN APPARENTLY DID NOT COVER THE TOP BECAUSE IT WAS CONSIDERED UPHOLSTERY. I PROCEEDED TO TELL THEM THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED TO THE 2005. WELL BEHOLD TO MY DELIGHT THERE WAS SO MANY COMPLAINS ON THE 2005 TOP CHRYSLER HAD PUT AN EXTENSION OF THE WARRANTY TO 100,000 OR 10 YEARS. THE 2005 HAD ONLY 40,000 MILES PUT I HAD PURCHASED IN JULY OF 2004 SO I HAD JUST UNDER A MONTH LEFT UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. SO BY COMPLAINING ABOUT THE 2007 I GOT A NEW TOP ON THE 2005. COURSE NO ONE AT CHRYSLER WOULD HAVE LET ME KNOW , I FOUND OUT ONLY BY CHANCE. A RELIABLE COMPANY WOULD HAVE SENT OUT A WRITTEN NOTICE. I ALSO FIND OUT THAT THE 2007 HAS NO SUCH 100,000 EXTENDED WARRANTY SO I HAVE BEEN DRIVING A CAR WITHOUT A PROPER REAR WINDOW BECAUSE I AM STILL WAITING FOR CHRYSLER TO FIX THE OBVIOUS MANUFACTURE DEFECT. WHY WOULD THEY FIX THE 2005 AND NOT THE 2007 WHICH IS TWO YEARS NEWER WITH THE EXACT SAME PROBLEMS ? MY FAMILY HAVE OWNED NEARLY A DOZEN CHRYSLERS OVER THE YEARS BUT I THINK THE PROBLEMS WITH THESE WINDOWS MAY BE ENOUGH TO KEEP MY FROM EVER BUYING ANOTHER. IT IS JUST POOR BUSINESS.
I'D LIKE TO REPORT THE BACK WINDOW STARTING TO BECOME UNGLUED FROM THE CONVERTIBLE TOP! I HAVE READ MANY REPORTS ABOUT THIS HAPPENING TO THE 2005'S AND 2007'S. IT DOESN'T SEEM TO BE COVERED AND THERE HAS BEEN NO RECALL. SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE! THIS IS AN EXPENSIVE THING TO FIX AT THE DEALER, REPLACING THE WHOLE TOP!!*JB
