FAULTS WITHIN THE HEADLIGHT/FOGLIGHT MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH ON THE 2001 PT CRUISER CAUSES THE FOGLIGHTS TO ILLUMINATE, EVEN WHEN THE SWITCH IS OFF. I REPLACED THE SWITCH, AND ALTHOUGH THE FOGLIGHTS NOW WORK PROPERLY, THERE IS NOW A FAULT IN THE DOME LIGHT FUNCTION, WHICH CAUSES THE DOME LIGHT TO ILLUMINATE WHEN THE SWITCH IS OFF. I RESEARCHED THE COMPONENT ON-LINE AND RETRIEVED REPORTS OF HEADLIGHTS TURNING THEMSELVES OFF AT RANDOM INTERVALS. HEADLIGHTS, FOGLIGHTS, DASHBOARD ILLUMINATION, DOME LIGHT AND TURN SIGNALS ARE ALL IN THE SAME COMPONENT. FOR FOGLIGHT DEFECT, MECHANIC REMOVED THE APPROPRIATE FUSE FROM THE FUSE PANEL AS A TEMPORARY FIX.
ELECTRICAL SHORT / FAILURE IN THE CAR HORN (SIMULTANEOUSLY AFFECTING THE LCD OF THE CLOCK/RADIO). ISSUE STEMS FROM SOME ELECTRICAL WIRING IN THE STEERING COLUMN; NOT SURE HOW THE TWO ARE RELATES BUT WHEN I BANG ON MY STEERING WHEEL THE LCD COMES BACK AND THE HORN IS FUNCTIONAL AGAIN. POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD AS IT AFFECTS THE HORN AND ABILITY TO AVOID ACCIDENTS. NO KNOWN FIX FROM MANUFACTURER ALARMS ME. *TR
THE FUEL LINE WAS RECALLED IN 2002 UNDER PT CRUISER FUEL LINE LEAKS AGAINST AIR CONDITIONER AND I HAD THAT REPAIRED IN 2002. I HAVE DONE NOTHING TO THE FUEL LINE SINCE THEN. ON JULY 25 2009, THE FUEL LINE SPRUNG A LEAK. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION I NOTICED THE LINE RUBBED AGAINST THE TOP OF THE ENGINE WHICH CAUSED THE HOLE IN THE FUEL LINE. OBVIOUSLY FUEL WAS LEAKING ONTO THE ENGINE THE CONSEQUENCES OF THE LEAK COULD HAVE BEEN CATASTROPHIC AND LIFE THREATENING TO MYSELF AND FAMILY. THE FUEL LINE IS THREADED UNDER THE POWER STEERING PUMP HOSE AND OVER THE ENGINE TO THE FUEL INJECTION RAIL. OVER THE MILES THE LINE RUBBED THE TOP OF THE ENGINE WHICH CAUSED THE HOLE IN THE FUEL CAUSING GAS TO SQUIRT AND LEAK IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. I REPLACED THE LINE TO REPAIR. I DID KEEP THE OLD FUEL LINE AND TOOK PICTURES OF THE ENGINE WHERE IT RUBBED. I BELIEVE THIS TO BE A DESIGN FLAW, BY ALLOWING THE FUEL LINE TO RUB ON THE ENGINE AND HELD DOWN BY THE POWER STEERING PUMP HOSE. *TR
2000 PT CRUISER WITH 50000 MILES. MULTIFUNCTION LIGHT SWITCH ON STEERING COLUMN HAS FAILED IN PAST TWO WEEKS. WHEN VEHICLE TURNED OFF, FOG LAMPS STAY ON. ONLY WAY TO GET THEM TO TURN OFF IS TO TURN ON LEFT TURN SIGNAL. WENT TO DEALER TO GET REPLACEMENT SWITCH AND WE ARE #1500 ON WAITING LIST FOR NEW SWITCH. CHRYSLER HAS NO OUTLOOK FOR WHEN NEW SWITCHES WILL BE AVAILABLE. PULLED FOG LIGHT FUSE TO KEEP FOG LIGHTS DE-ENERGIZED. GREAT RISK ACCORDING TO WIDELY DISTRIBUTED REPORTS THAT LIGHT WIRING HARNESS CAN FAIL, MELT AND START FIRE. THE ONLY SAFE THING TO DO IS PARK CAR AND REMOVE BATTERY UNTIL NEW SWITCH IS AVAILABLE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING EXAMINED, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE ENGINE MOUNTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 59,000. UPDATED 9/1/09 *CN THE RADIATOR WAS LEAKING, THE THERMOSTAT HOUSING WAS LEAKING
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER. WHENEVER THE CONTACT DROVE THE VEHICLE AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, SHE WOULD HEAR A CLUNKING SOUND COMING FROM THE FRONT END. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE LOWER CONTROL ARMS AND THE BUSHINGS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 59,000. UPDATED 08/28/09. *LJ THE RADIATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE FOG LIGHT WOULD COME ON WITH NO WARNING. A NEEW MULTI-FUNCTION SWITCH WAS NEEDED. UPDATED 09/02/09.*JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER. UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT SMELLED A STRONG ODOR OF GASOLINE. SHE ALSO NOTICED FUEL LEAKING UNDERNEATH THE FRONT HOOD. THROUGH ONLINE RESEARCH, SHE DISCOVERED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBERS 02V214000 AND 02V215000, BUT HER VIN WAS EXCLUDED FROM BOTH RECALLS. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY COULD NOT ASSIST WITH ANY REPAIRS AND WOULD NOT ASSUME LIABILITY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNABLE TO BE ENTERED INTO THE SYSTEM. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE LESS THAN 39,000. REMAILED 10/20/09. *LJ
SHORT IN MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH CAUSES FOG LIGHTS TO COME ON RESULTING IN A DEAD BATTERY. I AM CONCERNED BECAUSE THIS IS A 15 AMP CIRCUIT AND IT MAY POSSIBLE CAUSE AN ELECTRICAL FIRE ALSO. APPEARS TO BE A COMMON MALFUNCTION WITH THE PT CRUISER FOR ALL YEARS. *TR
DASHBOARD CRACKED IN HALF IN 2001 PT CRUISER. THE DASHBOARD IS NO LONGER STABLE NEAR THE WINDSHIELD AND PIECES ARE STARTING TO BREAK OFF FROM THE CRACKED AREA. IF THIS CONTINUES IT COULD POTENTIALLY EXPOSE WIRING AND ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS. THIS COULD ALSO POSE ADDITIONAL DANGERS IN THE EVENT OF A COLLISION WITH OR WITHOUT AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER. WHEN ATTEMPTING TO SHIFT GEARS, THE GEAR SHIFTER BECAME LOOSE AND TEMPORARILY INOPERATIVE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A TRANSMISSION EXPERT AND A TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE GEAR BOX BUSHINGS AND THRUST WASHERS WERE MISSING. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE CLUTCH CABLES AT THE COST OF $300. IN ADDITION, THE SEAT CABLES TO THE REAR PASSENGER SEAT FAILED. HE CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND LEFT A MESSAGE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 28,000.
ENGINE LIGHT ON/225+K MILES, CAR MECHANICALLY SOUND, CODE P0601, RUNS GOOD. BOUGHT IN 2003 OFF DAEWOO LOT. USED. WITH 12+K MILES. CHANGED: VALVE COVER,3 PCV'S,EGR TUBE,INTAKE. NORMALLY CHANGE SYNTHIC OIL SAE 5/30 OIL EVERY 14K MILES. WITH TWO OIL FILTER CHANGES EVERY 7K MILES., SPARK PLUGS EVERY 6MOS,WITH WIRES. MECHANIC TAKES OFF LIGHT, GOES BACK ON AFTER THE ENGINE IS TURNED BACK ON. *TR
I HAVE HAD MANY PROBLEMS WITH THIS CAR TO INCLUDE ELECTRICAL, OVER HEATING (WHICH WAS NEVER FIXED EVEN AFTER TAKING IT TO THE DEALERSHIP 3 TIMES), AND TRANSMISSION. IN 2013 AS I WAS DRIVING DOWN A BUSY 4 LANE HWY. I HEARD A SUDDEN AND LOUD BOOMING NOISE AND THE CAR BEGAN SHAKING VIOLENTLY. THINKING THAT I HAD HIT SOMETHING IN THE ROAD I BEGAN SLOWING DOWN AND MAKING MY WAY TO THE SHOULDER OF THE HWY. BUT BEFORE I COULD GET TO THE SHOULDER OF THE HWY. THE CAR MADE THAT LOUD BOOMING NOISE A SECOND TIME AND SHOOK VIOLENTLY AGAIN. IT THEN LOST ALL POWER TO THE FRONT WHEELS LEAVING ME STRANDED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HWY. AFTER REMOVING AND OPENING UP THE TRANSMISSION I FOUND THAT THE DRIVE SHAFT IN THE CENTER OF THE TRANSMISSION HAD SHEARED IN HALF. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION I BELIEVE THAT THE SLIGHTLY WORN ENGINE MOUNTS CAUSE A BINDING ACTION ON THE DRIVE SHAFT IN THE TRANSMISSION THUS CAUSING THE SHAFT WHICH IS MADE OF A COMPOSITE MATERIAL TO BASICALLY EXPLODE INSIDE THE TRANSMISSION. THIS PROBLEM IS SO WELL KNOWN BY US CAR BUFFS THAT JASPER ENGINES INC. (A WELL KNOWN COMPANY THAT REMANUFACTURES ENGINES AND TRANSMISSIONS) REPLACES THIS STOCK SHAFT WITH A STRONGER MORE ROBUST ONE WHEN THEY REMANUFACTURE THESE TRANSMISSIONS. THE VIOLENT SHAKING OF THE CAR THAT HAPPENED WHEN THIS TRANSMISSION SHAFT FAILED ALMOST CAUSE ME TO LOOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE ON A VERY BUSY HWY. CHRYSLER SHOULD RECALL ALL TRANSMISSIONS WITH THIS TYPE OF COMPOSITE SHAFT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER. THE CONTACT STATED THE RIMS ON THE VEHICLE CAUSED THE TIRES TO LOSE AIR. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE RIMS ALLOWED MOISTURE AND AIR INTO THE TIRES WHICH CAUSED THE AIR TO RELEASE. THE CONTACT STATED THE RIMS WERE FACTORY RIMS FROM CHRYSLER. THE DEALER STATED THE RIMS COULD ONLY BE RESEALED, BUT NOT REPLACED. THE CONTACT STATED THE TIRES WILL LOSE AIR OVER NIGHT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN, BUT THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 110,000.
UNEXPLAINABLE COMPLETE BATTERY DRAIN BEGAN IN 08/2008. DISCOVERED IN 03/2009 THAT THE FOG LIGHTS WERE COMING ON AND STAYING ON WHEN CAR WAS ON AS WELL AS WHEN OFF AND PARKED THUS, CAUSING THE BATTERY DRAIN. ONLY WAY TO KEEP FOG LIGHTS OFF WAS TO ENGAGE THE LEFT TURN SIGNAL OR REMOVE THE FUSE. TOOK TO DEALER 03/21/2009 AND FOUND THE ISSUE IS WITH THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH, WITH A REPLACEMENT COST OF $269. WENT AHEAD WITH THE REPLACEMENT AS I DO USE THE FOG LIGHTS. HAVE SEARCHED INTERNET AND HAVE FOUND MANY, MANY CASES OF THIS EXACT PART DEFECT. CHRYSLER SHOULD RECALL. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER AND A 2008 EVENFLO EMBRACE CHILD RESTRAINT SEAT MODEL NUMBER 4851906A. THE CONTACT WAS TRANSPORTING THE CHILD IN AN "INFANT ONLY" CHILD RESTRAINT SEAT. THE HANDLE OF THE CHILD RESTRAINT SEAT LOOSENED WHEN GRASPED FIRMLY. THE HANDLE WAS NOT ATTACHED SECURELY TO THE RESTRAINT SEAT. THE HANDLE DID NOT FAIL. THERE WAS SLIPPING OF THE HANDLE WHICH COULD CAUSE RELEASE OF THE CHILD SEAT AND OCCUPANT. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE RESTRAINT SEAT WAS REPLACED FOR SAFETY ISSUES INVOLVED. THE CONTACT IS IN THE PROCESS OF NOTIFYING THE MANUFACTURER. THE VIN NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN. BL
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS AN EVENFLO DISCOVERY REARFACING INFANT SEAT, MODEL 3091892A. THE SEAT WAS MANUFACTURED ON NOVEMBER 10, 2008. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BASE OF THE INFANT SEAT DOES NOT PROPERLY ANCHOR TO THE VEHICLE. THE SEAT DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE STABLE, WHICH IS A SAFETY HAZARD IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH. THE CHILD IS 13 MONTHS OLD AND WEIGHS 31 LBS. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS A NORMAL CHARACTERISTIC OF THE SEAT. THE CONTACT STILL HAS POSSESSION OF THE SEAT. VACUUM LINE CAME OFF ENGINE CAUSING A LOSS OF BRAKING PERFORMANCE. THERE WAS NOT A CLAMP ON THE LINE AND YOU COULD ALMOST BLOW THE LINE OFF WITH YOUR MOUTH IT WAS SO LOOSE! *TR
ENGINE NOISE FOLLOWED BY EXHAUST FUME SMELL IN PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. TOOK TO DEALER AND THEY SAID THERE WAS A HOLE IN THE "FLEX" PART OF THE EXHAUST PIPE BEFORE THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. THEY SAID THE WHOLE FLEX PART AND CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS ONE PART AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED (COST ABOUT $1400). THE CAR WOULD NOT PASS INSPECTION UNTIL THE EXHAUST SYSTEM WAS REPAIRED. TOOK VEHICLE FOR A SECOND OPINION AND THE MECHANIC SAID THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE PT AND THAT CHRYSLER SHOULD RECALL THE CARS. I HAD THE PART REPLACED SO THAT THE CAR WOULD PAST INSPECTION AND BE LEGAL TO DRIVE. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE WAS ABLE TO TAKE THE KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION IN ANY POSITION (OFF, ACCESSORY, ETC) WHILE THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING EVEN IF IT WAS NOT SHIFTED INTO PARK. THE CONTACT NOTICED THE FAILURE EVERY TIME HE DROVE THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED OR REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO REFERRED HIM TO NHTSA. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 95,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 73,000.
MY 2001 PT CRUISER'S DASH HAS FAILED, THERE IS A CRACK FROM THE WINDSHIELD ALMOST ALL THROUGH TO THE FRONT. I'VE READ IT CAN CAUSE PROBLEMS WHEN IT FINISHES BREAKING, WHICH FROM APPEARANCES IT WILL SOON DO. *TR
FOG LIGHT SWITCH IS ALWAYS ON UNLESS SIGNAL ARM IS PLACED IN LEFT TURN. IF I DON'T DO THIS, THE BATTERY DRAINS FROM THE FOG LIGHTS STAYING ON. INTERNET SEARCH AND COMPLAINT SEARCH ON THIS SITE REVEALS THIS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH, COSTING APPROX $200 TO FIX. FROM INTERNET RESEARCH, APPEARS TO BE HAPPENING NOT ONLY WITH 2001 PT CRUISER BUT ALSO LATER YEARS. *TR
DRIVERS SIDE - SIDE AIRBAG FAILED TO DEPLOY ON CRASH TO DRIVERS SIDE OF 2001 PT CRUISER. PT CRUISER T-BONED OVER CAR SPEED APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH. *TR
I STARTED DRIVING MY 2001 PT CRUISER AND NOTICED THE FOG LAMP INDICATOR WAS ON. THE LIGHTS WERE NOT TURNED ON, I CHECKED ALL THE SWITCHES. A COUPLE MILES DOWN THE ROAD I NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM THE COLUMN THROUGH THE HAZARD BUTTON. I PULLED OVER AND PULLED THE FUSE FOR THE FOG LAMPS WHICH STOPPED THE SMOKING BEFORE A FIRE STARTED. THE FUSE WAS VERY HOT. I SEE THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM VIA THE INTERNET ON THE PT. WHY HAS THIS NOT BEEN RECALLED IF ITS A SAFETY ISSUE WITH POSSIBLE FIRES. *TR
FACTORY INSTALLED KEY ALARM SYSTEM IS SHORTING OUT, ALARM WILL NOT DEACTIVATE BY REMOTE ONLY ON IGNITION SWITCH, DOORS WILL LOCK AND UNLOCK WHILE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. ESTIMATED COST OF REPAIR 300.-500.00. *TR
I HAVE A FAULTY PART IN MY 2001 PT CRUISER IT IS CALLED A FOG LIGHT SWITCH IT GOES BAD IN 2001 AND 2002 CRUISERS. I HAVE A WEBSITE YOU CAN GO ON AND SEE OVER 300 MORE PEOPLE LIKE ME WHO ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS. GOOGLE SEARCH WORD FOR WORD TROUBLE WITH MULTIFUNCTION CONTROL SWITCH FOR PT CRUISER HEADLIGHTS. PLEASE HELP ALONG WITH HUNDREDS OF OTHER PEOPLE WHO ALMOST LOST THERE LIVES DUE TO THERE LIGHTS GOING OUT. *TR
HOLE IN EXHAUST SYSTEM NEAR FUEL TANK CAUSED THE PLASTIC FUEL TANK TO LITERALLY MELT AND LEAK FUEL. THE METAL SHIELD NEAR THE TANK DOES NOT ADEQUATELY PROTECT THE TANK. IT IS A MIRACLE THAT THE VEHICLE DID NOT CATCH FIRE. THE ENTIRE FUEL TANK ASSEMBLY AND FUEL LINES NEAR THE TANK HAVE TO BE REPLACED. *TR
DURING ROUTINE OIL CHANGE THE MECHANIC FOUND THAT THE THREADS WELDED INTO THE OIL PAN HAD COME LOOSE. CAR NEEDED A NEW OIL PAN. I WAS TOLD THAT THIS IS A "FAIRLY COMMON PROBLEM" BECAUSE THE PAN IS ALUMINUM AND THE THREADED PIECE IS STEEL AND SINCE THE TWO METALS HAVE DIFFERENT EXPANSION AND CONTRACTION TEMPERATURES THAT OVER TIME THE WELD IS BROKEN AND THE THREAD "BREAKS LOOSE" FROM THE PAN. SEEMS TO ME THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL AS IT IS A POOR DESIGN. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, THE CONTACT REAR ENDED ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WITHOUT WARNING. IN ADDITION, THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT BELT FAILED TO RESTRAIN PROPERLY AND FORCED THE DRIVER INTO THE STEERING WHEEL. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED SEVERE INJURIES AND THE POLICE AND AMBULANCE WERE CALLED TO THE SCENE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE COLLISION CENTER AND WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE HAS NOT BEEN DETERMINED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 151,000.
THE DASHBOARD OF MY PT CRUISER IS SUFFERING FROM MULTIPLE CRACKS THAT SEEM TO CONTINUALLY GROW AND INCREASE IN NUMBERS. THE CRACKS HAVE SHARP EDGES AND SEEM TO PRESENT THE POTENTIAL OF AN EVENTUAL DASHBOARD FAILURE OF THIS PADDED SURFACE. THE CRACK ALSO PRESENT SHARP EDGES. THE PROTECTIVE ASPECT OF THIS DASHBOARD IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH IS SUSPECT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TIRES WERE CONSTANTLY GOING FLAT ALTHOUGH SHE REPLACED THE TIRES THREE TIMES IN AN UNUSUALLY SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE RIMS WERE CAUSING THE TIRES TO GO FLAT. AS A RESULT, THE RIMS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 92,000.
2001 PT CRUISER. HORN AND RADIO/CLOCK DISPLAY INTERMITTENT. WHEN THE RADIO/CLOCK DISPLAY IS DARK, THE HORN IS INOPERATIVE. THIS HAPPENS OFTEN. SOMETIMES THE HORN DOES NOT WORK FOR SEVERAL WEEKS, OTHER TIMES FOR ONLY A SHORT TIME. TWO REPAIR SHOPS LOOKED AT IT, BUT THE PROBLEM CLEARED BY IT SELF, AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE REPLACED HER ENTIRE BRAKE SYSTEM IN AUGUST 2008; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE HAS RECURRED. A SECOND CHRYSLER DEALER ALSO ADVISED HER THAT SHE HAD TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE BRAKE SYSTEM. THE CHRYSLER MANUFACTURER INFORMED THE CONTACT TO TAKE HER VEHICLE TO A DEALER TO HAVE IT REPAIRED. THERE WERE NO RECALLS AND THE WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 34,837 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 47,420.
MY 2001 PT CRUISER HAVE 3 HUGE CRACKS ON THE DASHBOARD. HAVE ALWAYS USED PROTECTION AGAINST THE SUN AND STILL GOT THEM. I FEAR THAT IF EVER HAVE AN IMPACT THE PIECES OF THE DASHBOARD WILL BE DANGEROUS DEBRIS IF AIRBAGS OPEN (IF THEY DO OPEN AND DOESN'T GET STUCK). *TR

PULLED INTO A PEP BOYS AND WAS TOLD THAT THE FRONT CONTROL ARMS AND BEARINGS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED (THE CAR HAD 75K MILES). I WAS TOLD THAT THIS WAS A VERY COMMON DEFECT WITH THESE CARS AND THAT A RECALL SHOULD HAVE BEEN WARRANTED. $1200 REPAIR AND CAR STARTED SHAKING AGAIN 50K MILES LATER. -CONTINUOUS OIL CONSUMPTION. I PUT A QUART OF OIL EVERY TWO WEEKS IN THE CAR. I HAVE HAD THE CAR COMPLETELY TUNED BY A FAMILY MEMBER WHO IS A CERTIFIED MECHANIC, AND IT STILL EATS OIL. I MENTIONED THIS TO THE REPAIR TECHNICIAN WHO DID THE CONTROLS ARMS AND BEARINGS, AND HE CONFIRMED THAT THIS WAS ALSO A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THESE CARS. MANY OF THE WEBSITES I WENT ON TO RESEARCH THIS HAVE HUNDREDS OF THE SAME COMMENTS FOR BOTH ISSUES. *TR

WHILE IT IS PRIMARILY COSMETIC, THIS IS NOT SOMETHING THAT SHOULD BE BREAKING IN A 7 YEAR OLD (8 MODEL YEARS) CAR. I DO HAVE SOME CONCERNS ABOUT FURTHER FAILURES IN THE DASH WHILE DRIVING AND A PIECE POTENTIALLY GETTING LODGED BY THE GAS OR BRAKE PEDAL, THE SHIFTER, OR STEERING WHEEL. *TR

THE RIMS/WHEELS HAVE BEEN CORRODING SEVERELY OVER THE LAST 1.5 YEARS, CAUSING MULTIPLE FLAT TIRES ON MY CAR. THIS HAS PROVEN TO BE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. I'VE BEEN TO VARIOUS MECHANICS WHO HAVE STATED THAT SEVERAL OF THE PT CRUISERS HE'S WORKED ON, HAVE HAD THIS SAME FLAW. IF THERE ISN'T A RESOLUTION, I WILL NOT PURCHASE ANOTHER CHRYSLER PRODUCT. WE HAVE A 2001 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER. WHILE DRIVING ON A FREEWAY, THE REAR LEFT WING WINDOW FELL OUT AND WAS RUN OVER BY THE VEHICLE FOLLOWING US. FORTUNATELY, NO ONE WAS HURT BUT IT COULD HAVE CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. THERE IS A RECALL ON THE 2005 MODEL FOR THIS VERY PROBLEM (07V149000). OUR LOCAL DEALER TOLD US TO TAKE UP THE ISSUE OF REPAIR WITH CHRYSLER, WHICH WE DID, AND THEY REPLIED THAT THEY WOULD NOT HONOR THE RECALL FOR OUR MODEL YEAR, EVEN THOUGH IT IS EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM. THEREFORE, I WANT TO FILE A COMPLAINT SO THAT THE OFFICIAL RECORD SHOWS THAT THE SAME PROBLEM DOES INDEED EXIST IN EARLIER MODELS.

DASHBOARD STARTED CRACKING AND CONTINUED TO CRACK FROM WINDSHIELD AREA ALL THE WAY DOWN TO BOTTOM,THEN ANOTHER CRACK STARTED AND DID THE SAME.THESE DASHBOARDS ARENT MADE PROPERLY AND BOTH CRACKS ARE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE.IM AFRAID THE AIRBAG WILL DEPLOY SOMEDAY.MY WIFE HAS A CHRYSLER 300M 1999 AND SHE HAS THE SAME PROBLEM WITH HER DASHBOARD.
