I HAVE NOT YET HAD A FAILURE BUT WAS DIRECTED TO THIS SITE BY WWW.PTCRUISERPROBLEMS.COM TO SUBMIT A COMPLAINT REGARDING HIGH OIL CONSUMPTION OF A QUART EVERY 1000 MILES POTENTIALLY LEADING TO ENGINE FAILURE ON PT CRUISERS. I'M NOT ENTIRELY SURE THIS IS THE RIGHT AGENCY, THOUGH. IF NOT, PLEASE ADVISE. *TR
THERE IS A CHRONIC PROBLEM WITH 2001 TO 2003 CHRYSLER PT CRUISERS OVERHEATING TO THE POINT OF DISABLING THE CAR, AND SOMETIMES DAMAGING THE CAR BEYOND REPAIR. THERE APPEARS TO BE NO SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM. THE FOLLOWING DISCUSSION THREAD HAS OVER 250 PEOPLE COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM, AND ONLY A SMALL FRACTION OF THEM HAVE HAD SATISFACTORY SOLUTIONS. AND THEN THERE ARE ALL OF THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE NOT TURNED TO THE WEB FOR HELP AND ADVICE... THIS IS A SERIOUS AND ONGOING PROBLEM THAT CHRYSLER NEEDS TO ADDRESS. PEOPLE'S CARS ARE BEING COMPLETELY RUINED WITH NO CHANCE OF REPAIR, AND CHRYSLER WILL NOT EVEN ACKNOWLEDGE A PROBLEM. *TR
I GOT A POWER STEERING LEAK IN MY 2001 PT CRUISER. IT WAS THE POWER STEERING FLUID COOLER. BUT I WAS TOLD MY THE CHRYSLER DEALER THAT THERE WAS AN UPGRADE, THAT I COULDN'T GET THE OE COOLER, I HAD TO GET A NEW COOLER, HOSE, AND RESORVOIR. TO BE PURCHASED BY ME AND THE LABOR TO INSTALL THEM TO BE PAID BY ME. I SAID I DIDN'T WANT AN UPGRADE, I JUST WANTED THE OE COOLER. ONCE AGAIN I WAS TOLD THAT I HAD TO GET THE UPGRADE. I SAID THAT I WOULD PAY FOR THE COOLER AND LABOR TO INSTALL IT, I THOUGHT THAT CHRYSLER SHOULD PAY FOR ANY ADDITIONAL PARTS AND LABOR. I WAS TOLD THAT CHRYSLER WOULD NOT DO THIS. I FEEL THAT THEY SHOULD EITHER REPLACE THE PART THAT IS DEFECTIVE AND CHARGE ME, OR DO ANY ADDITIONAL WORK AT THEIR EXPENSE. THEY WOULDN'T DO IT. *TR
FOG LIGHTS STAYED ON UNTIL THE HIGH BEAMS WHERE TURNED ON THEN THEY WOULD GO OUT. HAD TO HAVE ENTIRE LEFT ARM CONTROL SWITCH REPLACED AT A COST OF 189.00. *TR
THE FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS ARE SQUEALING AND NEED REPLACED. THE DEALER SAID THAT IT WAS NORMAL... THEY EXPECT TO REPLACE THEM ALL AT ABOUT 50,000 MILES. THEY QUOTED $550 PER AXLE, THE BEARINGS ARE $60 IF NOT FROM THE DEALER!!! SHOULD BE NO REASON FOR WHEEL BEARINGS TO BE "TYPICAL REPLACEMENT" ITEMS! 2001 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER, 55,000 MILES, GARAGE STORED. *TR
DASH BOARD DEVELOPED A CRACK AT THE CENTER VENT AND AS OF THIS POINT THE ENTIRE MIDDLE OF THE DASH PANEL IS CRACKED IN TWO! OTHER CRACKS ARE ALSO DEVELOPING! THESE STARTED TO DEVELOP THREE YEARS AGO. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER. THE VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL WAS PREVIOUSLY DISCONNECTED. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM THE STEERING COLUMN. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS ELECTRICAL AND RELATED TO THE VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL. THE HIGH AND LOW BEAM SWITCH WAS ALSO BURNED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THERE WAS NO EXISTING RECALL. THE CONTACT ALLOWED THE VEHICLE TO COOL DOWN AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME. A MECHANIC WILL REPAIR THE VEHICLE SINCE THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY WERE UNABLE TO OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. SHE IS UNABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE DUE TO THE SAFETY RISK INVOLVED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 65,100.
I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE FRONT "ENGINE CRADLE", ALSO KNOWN AS THE "K-FRAME" OR "FRONT SUB-ASSEMBLY". IT IS THE STRUCTURAL STEEL FRAMEWORK BOLTED TO THE UNDERBODY THAT THE LOWER CONTROL ARMS ATTACH TO. THE STEERING RACK IS BOLTED TO THE TOP OF IT. THE LOWER ENGINE TORSION CONNECTOR IS MOUNTED TO IT. THE REASON? TOTAL RUST OUT! THE RIGHT WHEEL HUB AND LOWER CONTROL ARM BROKE AWAY FROM THE K-FRAME BECAUSE OF RUST. THE CAR WAS BEING DRIVEN SLOWLY AT THE TIME, AND THAT WAS A GOOD THING, BECAUSE THE CAR COULD BARELY BE DRIVEN AFTER. NO ACCIDENT OCCURRED. *TR
2001 PT CRUISER. HORN AND RADIO DISPLAY LIGHT INTERMITTENT . WHEN THE RADIO DISPLAY LIGHT GOES OUT SO DOES THE HORN. *TR
I RECENTLY PURCHASED A USED 2001 PT CRUISER. AFTER WATCHING A PT CRUISER CATCH ON FIRE IN MY WORK PARKING LOT, I NOTICED THAT I HAD NO HEAT. I ADDED COOLANT AND EVERYTHING SEEMED FINE UNTIL I DROVE IT FOR OVER 20 MINUTES. IT STARTED TO OVERHEAT AND SMOKE STARTED COMING OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD (IN THE DEAD OF WINTER). AFTER LETTING IT COOL I WAS ABLE TO GET IT HOME. I ADDED COOLANT AND CHECKED FOR LEAKS AND FOUND NONE. THEN I CHECKED THE INTERNET TO HELP TROUBLESHOOT THE ISSUE... AND RAN ACROSS SEVERAL WEBSITE WITH MY EXACT SAME PROBLEM WITH MANY PEOPLE STATING THAT THEY HAD SPENT THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS WITHOUT ANY RESULTS, AND WITH NO HELP FROM CHRYSLER RESOLVING THE ISSUE. *TR
MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH FOR TURN SIGNAL, HEADLIGHTS AND FOG LIGHTS IS DEFECTIVE. ELECTRICAL FAILURE CAUSES MELTING, SMOKE, BURNING AND MALFUNCTION. *TR
STRONG EXHAUST ODOR IN CAR WITH AC ON FRESH AIR. AFTER DOING A LITTLE TESTING I FOUND THE MANIFOLD TO EXHAUST SLIP JOINT LEAKING HEAVILY. WE HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM FOR A LONGE TIME AND ARE JUST GETTING TIRED OF CHOAKING LEVELS OF EXHAUST EVERY TIME WE COME TO A STOP. *TR
FOG LIGHTS STAY ON DRAINING BATTERY. INTERNET RESEARCH INDICATES PROBLEM WITH THE MULTI-FUNCTION SWITCH. ALSO INDICATES THAT HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM - SOME MULTIPLE TIMES - REPLACING SWITCH AT DEALER FOR APX $200 - AND MANUFACTURER HAS YET TO ISSUE RECALL OR ASSISTANCE. *TR
OWNER NOTICED A SLIGHT "PUDDLE" (SIZE OF A SILVER DOLLAR) ON GARAGE FLOOR. OWNER JACKED UP CAR TO INSPECT AND IDENTIFY WHERE LEAK WAS ORIGINATING. NOTED A MISPLACED BUSHING ON THE BRACKET HOLDING THE POWER STEERING HOSE IN PLACE UNDER THE ENGINE. ONE END OF THE BUSHING HAD BROKEN ALLOWING THE HOSE TO CHAFE AGAINST THE BRACKET AND LEAK FLUID. OWNER IMMEDIATELY TOOK CAR INTO THE DEALER TO HAVE REPAIRED. UPON EXAMINATION, DEALER INFORMED OWNER THAT THE MOTOR MOUNTS (2) HAD BROKEN ALLOWING THE ENGINE TO SIT LOWER ON THE FRAME AND THAT IS WHAT CAUSED THE BUSHING TO FAIL. OWNER PAID OVER $1,000 TO REPLACE MOTOR MOUNTS (2) AND REPLACE BUSHING AND POWER STEERING HOSE. OWNER FEELS THAT MOTOR MOUNT FAILURE WAS PREMATURE AS THE CAR ONLY HAS 38,000 MILES ON IT AND HAS NEVER BEEN DRIVEN HARD AND HAS BEEN GARAGED ITS ENTIRE LIFETIME. OWNER HAS IN HIS POSSESSION THE DEFECTIVE MOTOR MOUNTS. ALTHOUGH THERE WERE NO INJURIES OR DEATHS, THERE CERTAINLY COULD HAVE BEEN IF THE OWNER HAD NOT BEEN SO OBSERVANT AND VIGILANT ABOUT MAINTAINING THE CAR. LOSS OF POWER STEERING FUNCTION OR ENGINE DETACHMENT WOULD BE CATASTROPHIC ON THE ROAD, PARTICULARLY AT FREEWAY SPEEDS. *TR
2001 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER: DASHBOARD HAS CRACKED IN SEVERAL LOCATIONS - CRACKS RADIATING OUT FORM DEFROSTER VENT. DEFROSTER VENT GRILL HAS COMPLETELY DISINTEGRATED INTO SMALL PIECES. *TR
CONTROL ARM BUSHINGS WORN OUT AT 37000 MILES. EXCESSIVE TIRE WEAR AND DIFFICULT STEERING. *TR
DASHBOARD IS CRACKING ALL OVER. IT IS VERY WEAK IN THE CENTER. *TR
THE ORIGINAL CHROME WHEELS ON MY CHRYSLER 2001 PT CRUISER HAVE CONTINUALLY LOST AIR FOR AT LEAST THE PAST TWO YEARS. I HAVE TO ADD AIR EVERY SEVERAL DAYS. BOTH THE MECHANIC AT THE TIRE SHOP AND MY OWN MECHANIC SAID THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE TIRES, BUT THE PITTING OF THE WHEELS WAS CAUSING AIR TO LEAK OUT. THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT SHOULD NOT HAPPEN ON A SIX YEAR OLD CAR WITH 80,000 MILES. I WAS UNABLE TO RETURN TO THE DEALER BECAUSE OWNERSHIP HAS CHANGED SEVERAL TIMES SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR AND IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY. I BELIEVE THIS IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT THAT MAY CAUSE A LOSS OF AIR AT HIGH SPEED AND LEAD TO A CRASH. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM THAT HAS BEEN DOCUMENTED ON SEVERAL WEBSITES, BUT HAS NOT BEEN ADDRESSED BY CHRYSLER. *TR
2001 PT CRUISER WITH 44,500 MILES. ABT 3 MONTHS AGO A SMALL CRACK APPEARED IN THE DASHBOARD. IT GREW LARGER AND LARGER, AND IN OCTOBER THE VENT SCREEN PIECE POPPED OUT ON ITS OWN. THE CRACK FINALLY BISECTED THE DASHBOARD, SO I HAD IT REPLACED AT MY OWN EXPENSE. THIS CAR HAS GOTTEN NORMAL USAGE AND THERE APPEARS TO BE NO INCIDENT OR REASON FOR THIS TO HAVE OCCURRED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HER INSTRUMENTAL PANEL CRACKED IN DECEMBER OF 2007. SHE DID NOT TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSIS BECAUSE IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 38,000.
DASHBOARD CRACKS - 3 TOTAL. FIRST ONE APPEARED LATE 2007 ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE CENTER VENT. THEN, SHORTLY AFTER ANOTHER ONE POPPED UP FROM THE BACK OF THE CENTER VENT. APPROXIMATELY ONE MONTH LATER A 3RD ON (THE LARGEST ONE) APPEARED FROM THE FRONT OF THE VENT STRAIGHT TO THE FRONT EDGE OF THE DASH BOARD. PART OF THE CENTER VENT SPOKES ARE BREAKING NOW AND WHEN I PUT THE ARMOURALL ON THE DASH I HAVE TO BE VERY CAREFUL NOT TO PUT TOO MUCH PRESSURE ON IT AS I'M WIPING IT ON. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER. THE CONTACT PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN NOVEMBER OF 2007 AND THE WIRING HARNESS WAS REPLACED DUE TO ELECTRICAL FAILURES. IN APRIL OF 2008, WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE BRAKE PADS AND CALIPERS. RECENTLY, THE ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE DEALER'S DIAGNOSTIC INDICATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION SOLENOID SWITCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, ALONG WITH THE POWER STEERING PUMP. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER THE PARTS. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS THAT APPLIED TO HER VIN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 75,551.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER. WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 10-20 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A RATTLING NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE REAR LOWER CONTROL ARMS. WHEN THE CONTACT LEFT THE DEALER, SHE HEARD A NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT END WHEN THE VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE MOTOR MOUNT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS. THE POWERTRAIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 116,280. UPDATED 12/13/07 *TR
MY 2001 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER HAS DISCOLORATIONS (WHITE STRIPES) ON THE DARK GRAY FRONT AND BACK BUMPERS BECAUSE THE AUTO MAKER PUT PLASTIC AND TAPE ON THEM TO PROTECT THEM IN DELIVERY. THE ADHESIVE IN THE TAPE HAS DESTROYED THE FINISH ON THE GRAY PLASTIC. THIS STARTED TO SHOW UP AFTER 6 YEARS OF OWNING IT WHEN IT SAT IN THE SUN. MOST OF THE TIME I HAVE OWNED THIS VEHICLE IT WAS PARKED IN A GARAGE. FOR THE PAST YEAR IT HAS BEEN PARKED OUTSIDE. THIS WAS WHEN THE STRIPES STARTED TO SHOW UP. CHRYSLER IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND SAYS THEY HAVE A "TSB" ON IT BUT SAYS THEY ARE NOT WILLING TO FIX IT AND THAT I (THE CONSUMER) HAVE TO GO BUY PRODUCTS TO FIX IT MYSELF, WHICH I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW YOU CAN MAKE SUN BLEACHING AND FADING GO AWAY, IT'S PERMANENTLY DAMAGED. THEY STATED THAT UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE WILL THIS BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. I HAVE DRIVEN AROUND TO SEE IF OTHER PT'S ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AND EVERY PT CRUISER I HAVE SEEN WITH A GRAY PLASTIC BUMPER HAS THE SAME DEFECT. I HAVE TAKEN PHOTOS OF 5 DIFFERENT ONES JUST TODAY. THIS IS IRRESPONSIBLE FOR CHRYSLER TO DENY THEY ARE AT FAULT WHEN CLEARLY THEY CAUSED THE PROBLEM BY PUTTING TAPE ON OUR BUMPERS. IF MY CAR HAD BEEN IN TO A REPAIR SHOP AND THEY HAD PLACED TAPE ON THE BUMPERS THEY WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE AND LIABLE FOR THEIR ACTIONS. I AM FRUSTRATED THAT THEY WON'T DO ANYTHING TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. THESE DISCOLORATIONS ARE A PERMANENT PROBLEM AND ARE SUN BLEACHED, THEY WON'T JUST GO AWAY. I WOULD LIKE MY BUMPERS EITHER REPLACED OR PAINTED TO MATCH THE REST OF THE CAR. I AM ALSO SPREADING THE WORD TO OTHER PT CRUISER OWNERS, IN HOPES THAT CHRYSLER WILL SEE THAT THIS IS A BIG PROBLEM AND IS NOT GOING TO GO AWAY ON ITS OWN. THIS WILL CAUSE A FINANCIAL HARDSHIP ON MY FAMILY TO REPAIR THIS OURSELVES. *TR
MY 2001 PT CRUISER HAS SUDDENLY DEVELOPED LARGE CRACKS ON THE DASH. I'VE NEVER PUT ANY HEAVY THINGS ON IT OR USED IT TO HOLD MYSELF WHEN CLEANING THE WINDSHIELD AND OUT OF THE BLUE, IT'S CRACKED. OF COURSE IT'S OUT OF WARRANTY AND THE PURCHASE PRICE THROUGH THE DEALER IS ONLY $40.00 OR SO MORE THAN THE INSTALLATION PRICE. THE PART COSTS ABOUT $250.00. CHRYSLER IS GOUGING US. THERE IS NO WAY THAT PART TAKES OVER 2 HOURS TO REPLACE AND THAT'S WHAT IT WOULD BE AT TODAY'S MECHANIC'S LABOR PRICES! *TR
CRACKED DASHBOARD ON 2001 PT CRUISER. *TR
CRACKED DASHBOARD. THE CRACK HAS NOW SPREAD ACROSS THE ENTIRE DASHBOARD, SEPARATING THE DASH INTO TWO PIECES. THE CRACK EXTENDS FROM THE WINDSHIELD TO THE CENTER CONSOLE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 98,000. *TR
I OWN A 2001 PT CRUISER. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE NEW. I HAVE A CONCERN THAT MAY LEAD TO A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF THE ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT CHROME PLATED ALUMINUM WHEELS SUPPLIED WITH THIS VEHICLE. I HAVE BEEN NOTICING ABNORMAL DETERIORATION OF THE ALUMINUM WHEELS ON THIS VEHICLE. THERE APPEARS TO BE SOME TYPE OF GALVANIC REACTION BETWEEN THE ALUMINUM WHEEL AND THE STEEL OF THE WHEEL HUBS. THIS DETERIORATION APPEARS TO BE DUE TO A BAD FIT BETWEEN THE ALUMINUM WHEEL AND THE BEARING HUB. THIS DETERIORATION HAS PROGRESSED TO THE POINT WHERE THE WHEEL BOLT (LUGS) PATTERN IS AFFECTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NO HELP WHEN THIS ISSUE WAS RAISED WITH THEM. MY FEAR IS THAT, IF LEFT UNCORRECTED, THE WHEEL COULD FAIL CATASTROPHICALLY AT HIGH SPEEDS. THIS MAY BE TYPICAL OF SEVERAL YEAR FOR THIS VEHICLE TYPE. *JB
WE RECENTLY TOOK OUR 2001 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER IN THE SHOP FOR A STATE INSPECTION FOR RENEWAL OF OUR LICENSE PLATES. IN THE PROCESS, THE VEHICLE KEPT BLOWING 40 AMP FUSES. AFTER 3 HOURS OF SEARCHING. THE "ELECTRICAL SHORT" WAS LOCATED "ON BOTH SIDES" OF THE FRONT HEADLIGHTS". WHEN THE "HIGH BEAMS" WERE USED IT WOULD BLOW A FUSE. THIS SOUNDS STRANGE?? ONE SIDE MAYBE?? BUT BOTH HEADLIGHTS?? THIS SHOULD BE A "FACTORY RECALL". YOU CAN NOT USE YOUR "HIGH BEAMS" WHEN DRIVING?? COULD COST A LOSS OF LIFE. THE SHOP CHARGED ME $225.00. IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN FIXED BY THE FACTORY!! *TR
THE CLOCKSPRING IN MY STEERING COLUMN BROKE. I NOTICED A RUBBING NOISE AND THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD STICK WHEN I TURN THE WHEEL TO THE RIGHT. THE RIGHT TURN SIGNAL WHEN ACTIVATED WOULD NOT TURN OFF WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL IS TURNED IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND HAD THE CLOCKSPRING REPLACED AT MY EXPENSE. THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT THE AIRBAG WOULD NOT DEPLOY UNTIL THE CLOCKSPRING IS REPLACED. FOR A ITEM TO FAIL ON A VEHICLE THAT INVOLVES SAFETY EQUIPMENT AND NOT BE REPLACED AT THE MANUFACTURES EXPENSE IS QUITE IRRESPONSIBLE AND CARELESS FOR THE PUBLICS SAFETY. *TR
DRIVING AT 65MPH ON I75 THE CAR BEGAN TO VIBRATE. INSPECTION SHOWED APPROXIMATELY 10 CM X 2 CM SEPARATION ON THE OUTBOARD SIDE OF THE LEFT REAR TIRE BETWEEN THE STEEL BELTS. (NYLON OVERLAY MAINTAINED THE INTEGRITY OF THE TIRE). LATER INSPECTION OF THE RIGHT REAR TIRE SHOWED A BELT EDGE SEPERATION OF 3 CM.

DASHBOARD ON PT CRUISER 2001 BEGAN CRACKING RECENTLY. CRACKING PROGRESSING DAILY AND DASHBOARD IS ABOUT TO CAVE IN. *TR
THE AIR CONDITIONER FAILED AND A FOUL PUNGENT ODOR WAS COMING OUT OF THE BLOWER. SINCE IT WAS THE END OF SUMMER AND THE COST TO FIX IT WAS SO MUCH, WE WAITED UNTIL THIS YEAR TO REPAIR IT. THE BLOWER WAS USED DURING THE WINTER WITH THE SAME FOUL ODOR BLOWING OUT OF IT. THE CAUSE OF THE SMELL WAS INVESTIGATED AND NOTHING WAS FOUND. THE FAN WAS REPLACED BUT THAT DID NOTHING. THEY (THE DEALER REPLACED THE FAN AGAIN BUT NOTHING. WE HAD TO SPRAY DISINFECTANT IN THE CAR ON A DAILY BASIS TO ELIMINATE THE ODOR. AS A CONSEQUENCE, I GOT A SEVERE UPPER RESPIRATORY INFECTION. FINALLY, THE DEALER SAID WE NEEDED AN EVAPORATOR WHICH THEY REPLACED. THE CAR HAD LESS THEN 50,000 MILES. WE REALIZED AFTER THIS WAS REPLACED THAT THE ODOR WENT AWAY AND THE AIR WAS SO COLD THAT I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT THE AIR CONDITIONER WORKED WELL FROM THE FIRST DAY THAT WE HAD IT. WHEN WE COMPLAINED ABOUT IT NOT THROWING OUT COLD AIR (WHEN IT WAS NEW), WE WERE TOLD THAT IT IS BECAUSE IT IS A 4 CYL. CAR. NOW I FIND THAT I AM LEAKING ANTIFREEZE. THEY SAID IT WAS THE THERMOSTAT HOUSING, SO IT WAS REPLACED. STILL LEAKING........NOW THEY WANT TO TRY THE WATER PUMP. WHAT'S NEXT? *TR
AIRBAG LIGHT INTERMITTENTLY COMES ON AND GOES OFF. SOMETIMES WILL BEEP EVERY FEW MINUTES UNTIL THE ENGINE IS TURNED OFF FOR A FEW MINUTES. LOCAL CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP TRIED 3 TIMES IN A ROW UNSUCCESSFULLY TO FIND THE PROBLEM. I WAS TOLD IT WAS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE AND THAT IT WOULD NOT HINDER FROM PASSING INSPECTION, WHICH IT DIDN'T. HOWEVER I HAVE NOW BEEN TOLD THAT WHEN THE LIGHT IS ON THE AIRBAG WILL NOT DEPLOY MAKING IT A SAFETY ISSUE THAT WILL NO LONGER PASS INSPECTION. THERE ARE QUITE A NUMBER OF REPORTS ONLINE OF PT CRUISER OWNERS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. *TR
MY PT CRUISER OVERHEATED AND I REALIZED THAT THE FAN WAS NOT COMING ON. I TOOK IT IN FOR REPAIR AND THE MECHANIC SAID THE SENSORS AND FUSES WERE FINE AND THAT THE FAN ASSEMBLY NEEDED REPLACING. WHICH COST $700. 2 WEEKS LATER, THE CAR OVERHEATED, AGAIN AND ONCE AGAIN A COUPLE OF DAYS AFTER THAT. THIS TIME IT STALLED AND WOULD NOT START BACK UP. *TR

2001 PT CRUISER (TOURING EDITION) THE REAR SEAT, MIDDLE SEAT BELT DOES NOT LOCK UP WHEN THE SEAT BELT IS PULLED/YANKED ON OR THE VEHICLE TURNS CORNERS. MY SON AT 3 MONTHS OLD WENT TIPPING OVER SIDEWAYS WHEN I MADE A LEFT HAND TURN (LESS THEN 15 MPH). HE WAS SAFE AND SECURE IN HIS CAR SEAT WITH MATCHING BASE, BUT THE WHOLE THING TIPPED OVER. I TRIED MANUALLY GETTING IT TO LOCK SO THE BASE OF MY SONS CAR SEAT WOULD STAY IN PLACE, BUT I HAD NO LUCK. HE TIPPED A FEW TIMES, SO I DECIDED TO MOVE THE SEAT CLOSER TO THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR DOOR. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VIN WAS EXCLUDED FROM NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 02V214000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:HOSES, LINES/PIPING, AND FITTINGS); THEREFORE, THEY WOULD NOT ASSUME FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY REPAIRS. HOWEVER, ACCORDING TO SAFERCAR.GOV, HIS VIN WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP AND HAD THE COMPONENT REPAIRED ACCORDING TO THE REMEDY REFERENCED IN THE RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 87,629 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 110,000.
I JUST NOTICED THE 2001 PT CRUISER DASHBOARD HAD CRACKS. IT WAS GARAGE KEPT AND ALWAYS HAD SUN SHADES ON. ONLY HAD 50000 MILES. I HOPE THAT CHRYSLER STEPPED UP AND ACCEPTED RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR PRODUCT. THEY DID ON THE TRUCKS, SO WHY NOT ON THE CRUISERS. *AK

THE CONTACT HAS NOT HEARD FROM THE MECHANIC SINCE THE REPLACEMENT WAS MADE. SHE STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER WILL NOT INSPECT THE VEHICLE BECAUSE SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A GAS STATION TO BE SERVICED. THE POWERTRAIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 50,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 49,000.

WITHOUT QUESTION THIS PROBLEM POSES AN EXTREME DANGER TO DRIVERS OF THE VEHICLE WHO UNKNOWINGLY WILL DRIVE ON A POTENTIALLY EXTREMELY UNDER-INFLATED TIRE. THEIR POSITION IN MY OPINION TO MERELY ''NOT RECOGNIZE IT AS A PROBLEM'' AND NOT WARN THE OWNERS OF YOUR VEHICLE TO ALERT THEM TO THIS COMMON PROBLEM IS UNCONSCIONABLE, CALLOUS AND CONSTITUTES AN EXTREME HAZARD TO THE DRIVING PUBLIC.
