I HAD NO ADVANCE WARNING THAT MY WATER PUMP WAS FAILING. LUCKILY, I WAS JUST PULLING IN AT HOME WHEN THE TEMPERATURE BELL SOUNDED AND THE THERMOSTAT WAS ADVANCING NEAR THE RED AREA. WHEN I SHUT THE CAR OFF, I HEARD A NOISE AND LOOKED UNDER THE HOOD. THE WATER IN THE RESERVOIR WAS DOWN TO THE ADD LIN AND WAS BOILING FURIOUSLY. HAD I BEEN ON THE INTERSTATE, I FEAR THAT MY CAR COULD HAVE BLOWN WHILE DRIVING. MY CAR IS A PT CRUISER AND I HAVE HEARD ABOUT A SIMILAR INCIDENT FROM A FRIEND WHO HAS AN INTREPID. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED AND UPSET ABOUT THIS INCIDENT! I HAVE HAD RECURRING PROBLEMS WITH THE STEERING, AND THE SERVICE PEOPLE TOLD ME THAT THEY COULDN'T HEAR THE SOUND AND THAT IT WAS JUST "THE CAR". I AM BECOMING APPREHENSIVE ABOUT DRIVING MY CAR - ESPECIALLY ON BIG ROADS OR A FEW MILES FROM HOME. I AM THANKFUL THAT, SO FAR, ONLY MY FINANCES AND TEMPERAMENT ARE DAMAGED. *LA
CONSUMER STATES THE BRAKES WEAR OUT PREMATURELY. *AK
THE LOWER CONTROL ARM BUSHINGS ARE FAILING ON THE PT CRUISERS. THIS IS CAUSING A LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE IF THEY GET BAD ENOUGH. THE LOWER CONTROL ARM BUSHING IS SEPARATING AND ALLOWING THE CONTROL ARM TO DROP DOWN AND HIT THE FRAME. THE OCCURRENCE IS HAPPENING TO MANY OF MY CAR CLUB MEMBERS AND MEMBERS OF THE PT FORUM I FREQUENT. AND A LOT OF THEM STILL HAVE LOW MILEAGE ON THE VEHICLES. THIS IS A CONTROL PROBLEM AND POORLY DESIGNED (BAD RUBBER) DESIGN THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. WE HAVE MANAGED TO CATCH THE FUEL LINE RUB THRU PROBLEM AND DC HAS TAKEN CARE OF THAT. BUT NOW THIS PROBLEM NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED ALSO.. THIS ISN'T JUST CONCENING THE USA MODELS BUT ALSO THE MODELS IN OTHER COUNTRIES. AK
AFTER STARTING MY ENGINE, MY AIRBAG LITE CAME ON AND NEVER WENT OFF. EVERYTIME I HAVE STARTED MY CAR SINCE, THE LIGHT COMES ON AND STAYS ON UNTIL THE ENGINE IS TURNED OFF.
REAR SUSPENSION MADE UP OF MANY LINKS WITH GROMMETS INSIDE THEM THAT WEAR OUT PREMATURELY AND MAKE A LOUD CLANGING BANGING NOISE. I THOUGHT IT WAS MY SPARE TIRE W/O AIR AND DID NOT GET TO THE DEALER BEFORE THE 36,000 MILE WARRANTY EXPIRED (PLUS THIS DEALER DOES NOT REALLY REPAIR THINGS). LOCAL MECHANIC GOT AHOLD OF LOCAL DEALER WHO IS VERY FAMILIAR WITH THIS VERY FREQUENT PROBLEM. EITHER IT IS A POOR DESIGN OR THE SUPPLIER BLEW IT BUT IT IS GODDAWFUL AND I AM FEARFUL OF FAILURE.*AK
MY 2001 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER HORN DOES NOT WORK ALL THE TIME. WHEN THE RADIO DISPLAY IS ON, THE HORN WORKS , WHEN THE RADIO DISPLAY GOES OUT, THE HORN WILL NOT HONK. THERE HAS BEEN 3 TIMES WHEN WE NEEDED IT TO WORK AND IT WOULD NOT. THE LOCAL CHRYSLER DEALER CHANGED OUT THE RADIO AND SAID THEY FIXED A HORN WIRE, BUT 2 WEEKS LATER IT WAS BROKEN AGAIN. *JB
WHILE DRIVING, THE EMISSION WARNING LIGHT WOULD ILLUMINATE ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE MECHANIC INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT THE PROBLEM WAS PERTAINING TO THEIR GAS CAP. THE PROBLEM WAS NOT RESOLVED. *NM THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT 2000 GAS CAPS HAVE FAILED BEFORE HIS VEHICLE. *SC *JB
THE LOWER CONTROL ARM BUSHINGS ARE SEPARATING FROM THE RUBBER. THIS CAN CAUSE LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL, RATTLES, SEVERE TIRE VIBRATION OR FRONT END VIBRATION. SOME OF MY MEMBERS HAVE HAD THIS OCCUR AS LOW AS 5000 MILES. CURRENTLY MINE HAS 36.000 MILES AND THE PROBLEM IS OCCURRING ON MINE. I AM A ASE CERTIFIED TECHNICIAN. AND THERE IS NO WAY THAT THESE TYPE OF BUSHINGS SHOULD BE HAVING THIS SEPARATION PROBLEM AT SUCH A LOW MILEAGE. A RECALL IS IN ORDER, BEFORE A OWNER HAS A VEHICLE ACCIDENT DUE TO THE VEHICLE LOOSING STEERING CONTROL.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT AND REAR BUMPERS ARE FADED OUT. THE PART OF THE BUMPERS NEAREST TO THE VEHICLE'S BODY IS SURROUNDED BY A ONE INCH WHITE LINE. THE BUMPERS ARE A CHARCOAL GRAY COLOR. THE BUMPERS WERE REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY, BUT THE FAILURE HAS RECURRED. HER WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED AND NOW SHE WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS REPAIR HERSELF. SHE SPOKE WITH A MECHANIC AT THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THEY ARE AWARE OF THE FAILURE, BUT NO RECALLS HAVE BEEN ISSUED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 41,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,965.
I WAS DRIVING HOME AT 11:00 PM AND JUST ABOUT TO GET ON I 75, AND MY HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT. I HAD TAIL LIGHTS AND I COULD USE MY FLASHERS. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERS NEXT DAY AND THEY FOUND NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. I TOLD THEM TO PUT A NEW BATTERY IN IT NO MATTER WHAT. I HAVEN'T DRIVEN IT AT NIGHT SINCE. I'M AFRAID TO DRIVE IT AT NIGHT. *AK
WHEN DRIVING AT AN UNDETERMINED SPEED CONSUMER HEARD A KNOCKING NOISE FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT REAR BEARINGS FAILED". CONSUMER HAD THE REAR BEARINGS REPLACED. *AK
WHILE DRIVING THE CAR AND THE POWER STEERING UNIT FAILED. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER AND WAS TOLD THEY COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM. APPROXIMATELY 2 MONTHS LATER PROBLEM RECURRED, RETURNED TO DEALER AND WAS TOLD THE CAR WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY, UNIT NEEDED REPLACEMENT. TOOK TO DIFFERENT REPAIR SHOP, WAS TOLD THAT UNIT WAS SHOT, HAD A GREY SUBSTANCE IN STEERING FLUID THAT APPEARED TO BE SOME FORM OF LEAK SEALANT, DESTROYED SEALS IN UNIT, HAD TO REPLACE UNIT AT MY OWN COST,($400). DEALER DENIED ADDING ANYTHING OTHER THAN STEERING FLUID. WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL BY ANOTHER PT OWNER, NEVER INFORMED BY CHRYSLER. DEALER SAID IT WAS NO LONGER THEY'RE RESPONSIBILITY BECAUSE THIRD PARTY REPAIR WAS MADE. NO RESPONSE FROM CHRYSLER.*AK
PURCHASED 7/00. EXPERIENCED 3 SEPARATE ISSUES W/ ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. 1ST YEAR OF OWNERSHIP 1)PARKING LIGHTS REMAINED ON WHEN LIGHTS WERE OFF, RESULTING IN TOW, AND REPLACED BATTERY. 3RD YEAR OF OWNERSHIP: 2)DOOR AJAR LIGHT ON, BELL DINGING, INTERIOR LIGHT REMAINS ON AND ALL DOORS ARE SECURELY SHUT. RESULTED IN TOW AND BATTERY REPLACEMENT. DEALERSHIP SAID BATTERY DEFECTIVE. 6MOS LATER, SAME DINGING PROBLEM OCCURING. WARRANTY EXPIRED. PREV DEALER BANKRUPT, NEW DEALER STATING SAME DEFECTIVE BATTERY. *AK

THE TRANS AXLE BROKE IN OUR 2001 CHRYSLER PT ON SUN-1/25/04 AND WAS TOWED TO THE SARASOTA CHRYSLER DEALER WHO GOT TO IT TUESDAY TO SAY NOT UNDER WARRANTY(WE ARE 2ND OWNER-HAD 2 YRS) SO NEED A NEW ONE. THEY DID NOT OFFER TO PULL OUT AND REBUILD. IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN REBUILT. THEY DID NOT NOTIFY US OF RECALL NOR FIX THAT. WE JUST MOVED HERE FROMMD. IN AUGUST AND DID NOT GET FUEL RECALL SOMEHOW. SAFETY SEAT WE DID GET ,BUT DID NOT DO. DUE TO $2400 QUOTE, WE TOWED THE AUTO HME AND GAVE THEM A DEPOSIT TO ORDER A NEW TRANSMISSION FROM CHRYSLER SINCE A USED ONE COULD NOT BE FOUND. NOW WE STILL DO NOT HAVE NOR CAN BE TOLD WHEN IT WILL COME IN OFF "BACKORDER"? FOR A 2001 POPULAR AUTO? CALLED CHRYSLER TO VERIFY TO SEE WHAT COULD BE DONE SINCE WE ARE RENTING A CAR NOW FOR 3 WEEKS WITH 4 YR OLD CAR NOT WORKING AND CANNOT BE FIXED DUE TO UNAVAILABLE PARTS. IT IS NOT LIKE IT IS A FIERO OR ANTIQUE, OR UNUSUAL. WE CALLED CHRYSLER WHO CHECKED WITH DEALER ON "RECALL " COMPLAINT -SPOKE TO [XXX] AND SHE SAID SHE DID NOT ASK THEM THAT. ASKED HER ABOUT PARTS AND WAS TOLD SHE COULD "RUSH" AND HOPEFULLY GET A TRANSMISSION FOR US SOON, BUT WE WOULD HAVE TO PAY EXTRA! STILL NO TIME FRAME WAS QUOTED. WE ARE STUCK AND DO NOT KNOW WHERE TO TURN . THE CAR HAS NOT HAD OTHER PROBLEMS AND ONLY HAS UNDER 60,000 MILES SO IT IS HARD TO UNDERSTAND THAT CHRYSLER WILL NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT OR OFFER MORE HELP FOR CONSUMER SATISFACTION ON A VERY POPULAR AUTO. SOME OF THE ILLUMINATING LIGHTS IN THE DASHBOARD FOR SPEED AND RPM AND FUEL HAVE GONE OUT. I HAD MENTIONED THIS TO CHRYSLER WHEN MY TRANSMISSION DIED AND THEY DID NOTHING. ISN'T THEM ANOTHER E-MAIL IN SEPTEMBER AND THEY STILL HAVE DONE NOTHING. I FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD IF YOU CAN NOT READ YOUR GAUGES AT NIGHT TIME WITHOUT TAKING YOUR ATTENTION AWAY FROM THE ROAD TO TURN ON THE INTERIOR LIGHT TO SEE THE GAUGES. *JB
FUEL LINE HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN SECURED WITH NYLON TIES TO PREVENT CHAFING AGAINST AC LINES. HOWEVER, FUEL LINE RUBBED AGAINST HOUSING OF OUTSIDE AIR FILTER WHERE IT MEETS THE FIREWALL. THIS CHAFED THE HOUSING MATERIAL AND EVENTUALLY CAUSED A HOLE IN IT. THE EDGE OF THIS HOLE SUBSEQUENTLY WORE THROUGH THE FUEL LINE AND CAUSED FUEL TO SPRAY INTO ENGINE COMPARTMENT. NO FIRE RESULTED. REPAIRED BUY SPLICING A FITTING INTO THE FUEL LINE AT THE POINT OF THE LEAK. *JB
WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE LOST POWER BRAKES, POWER STEERING, AND STALLED. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER, TECHNICIAN DETERMINED THAT RADIATOR HOSE BROKE, AND COOLANT FELL OFF. *AK
I HAD MY 2001 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER IN THE SHOP FOR THE MANDATORY PENNSYLVANIA STATE SAFETY INSPECTION. THE MECHANICS INFORMED THE THAT BOTH OF THE LOWER CONTROL ARMS WERE BAD IN THE VEHICLE. THIS VEHICLE HAS ONLY 47,000 ORIGINAL MILES ON THE CAR. I ASKED IF THIS WAS A COMMON OCCURANCE AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY HAVE REPLACED THESE CONTROL ARMS ON 9 VEHICLES SO FAR. THEY STATED THEY CALLED THE LOCAL CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP AND THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT TOLD THEM THAT THEY REPLACE ABOUT 30 OF THESE PER MONTH. I WAS TOLD THERE HAVE BEEN NO RECALLS ISSUED FOR THIS ITEM.*AK
LOCK CYLINDER FOR IGNITION KEY BROKEN IN STEERING COLUMN. KEY WOULD NOT TURN AND STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP. I AM CONCERNED THAT IF THE LOCK CYLINDER BROKE WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE, THE STEERING WHEEL MAY LOCK UP CAUSING THE DRIVER TO LOSE CONTROL. *JB
THE FRONT BRAKES AND TIRES EXHIBIT EXTREME WEAR AND TEAR. FRONT TIRES REPLACED APPROX. 40,000 MILES, REAL OK AT 68,000. FRONT BRAKES REPLACED TWICE SO FAR, WITH ROTORS AND CALIPERS NEEDING REPLACEMENTS. THE FRONT SUSPENSION SYSTEM APPEARS TO BE OVERLY STRESSED DUE TO VEHICLE DESIGN.*AK
CONSUMER STATED THAT THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, WHEN THE CONSUMER WENT TO HAVE AN OIL CHANGE, THE LIGHT WENT OFF. A WEEK LATER THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME BACK ON AND STAYED ON. THE CONSUMER THEN CALLED THE MECHANIC/DEALER AND WAS TOLD TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN. AFTER THE WAS EXAMINED, THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD THAT THE LEAK DETECTOR PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONSUMER STATED THAT LAST YEAR THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE FUEL PUMP AND SHE THINKS THAT THIS PROBLEM COULD BE RELATED. SHE SAID SHE WAS TOLD BY CHRYSLER THAT THEY WOULD NOT HELP WITH THE REPAIRS. *JB THE ENGINE LIGHT HAD COME ON AGAIN. THE SERVICE DEALER SUGGESTED THAT THE LIGHT WOULD GO OFF THEN THE PROBLEM WOULD CORRECT ITSELF. RECALL# 0345436 *SC
WHILE DRIVING AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD INTERMITTENTLY. *AK
MY 01 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER, 25,602 MILES, HAD A STIFF BRAKE PEDAL. CAR FELT AS IF I WAS DRIVING W/FOOT ON BRAKE. CHRYSLER TOWED CAR TO DEALER. THEY SAID I HAD CONTAMINATED BRAKE FLUID, REPAIRS NOT COVERED BY REGULAR OR EXT. WARRANTY. MY BILL FOR REPAIR WAS $2643.48. THEY REPLACED ALL BRAKE SYSTEM COMPONENTS.*AK
2001 PT CRUISER 21,800 MILES AND OUR DASH STARTED CRACKING AT SIDE VENTS IN 2004. CRACKS EXTEND FROM ALL VENTS TOWARD THE WINDSHIELD, SIMILAR TO OTHER PT CRUISER OWNERS IN THE USA. THE PROBLEM IS WITH CHRYSLER'S CHOICE OF SUPPLIERS IN MEXICO. UNFORTUNATELY, IT WILL TAKE A CLASS ACTION SUIT AGAINST CHRYSLER TO CHANGE THEIR SERVICE TO CUSTOMERS. I AM INVESTIGATING SEVERAL LAWYERS INVOLVED IN THIS AREA WHO ARE AWARE OF A MASS RECALL PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM IS NOT ISOLATED TO ONE STATE. THE DASH WILL SHORTLY COLLAPSE IN CAUSING A POTENTIAL ACCIDENT. PERHAPS AT THAT TIME NHTSA WILL CONSIDER A RECALL. DO WE HAVE TO WAIT FOR A TRAGEDY TO RECEIVE A CORRECTIVE ACTION? *JB
THE BRAKE PADS FAILED AT 10,000 MILES. THE BRAKE LIGHT ILLUMINATED APPROXIMATELY 200 MILES LATER AFTER HAVING THEM CHECKED THERE WAS A LOUD MOANING NOISE. FOUND THAT THE PADS HAD CUT INTO THE ROTORS, AND THE ROTOR DISHED WAS BENT VERY BADLY. NOW AT 15000 MILES THE VEHICLE NEEDED NEW BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS.*AK
COMPLETE REPLACEMENT OF THE COOLING SYSTEM IN MY CAR. AT THE TIME I ONLY HAD 39000 MILES ON IT. I JUST WANT TO KNOW IF YOU THINK MY MANUFACTURER WARRANTY FROM CHRYSLER SHOULD HAVE COVERED THIS REPAIR. MY WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED AT 36000 MILES, EVEN THOUGH I HAD ONLY OWNED THE CAR FOR 2 1/2 YEARS. I HAVE NEVER HAD A RADIATOR REPLACEMENT ON A CAR WITH SO FEW MILES. I AM ASKING THIS QUESTION BECAUSE I HAVE HAD SEVERAL VERY EXPENSIVE AND UNUSUAL PARTS REPLACEMENT RECENTLY ON THIS CAR., IE THE MAIN ENGINE WIRING HARNESS AND THE POWER CONTROL MODULE. I HAD ALREADY HAD THE POWERSTEERING UNIT REPLACED AND THE FUEL PUMP REPLACED AS PART OF A DEALER RECALL. THIS SEEMS LIKE A LOT OF EXPENSIVE MAJOR REPAIRS FOR A CAR WITH LESS THAT IS LESS THAN 5 YEARS OLD.
CONSUMER'S VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN THE 1ST GEAR AND TURNED OFF, IT ROLLED, AND CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. *AK
I OWN A 2001 PT CRUSIER AND HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE FRONT ROTORS BECAUSE OF EXESSEIVE WHEAR AND THE CAR HAS LESS THAN 50K MILES PLEASE ADVISE . *AK
I SMELLED GASOLINE AND DISCOVERED A PUDDLE OF GAS UNDER MY 2001 PT CRUISER. WHEN I TOOK IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP THEY INDICATED THAT THERE WAS A CRACK IN THE NECK LEADING FROM THE GAS TANK AND THE TANK WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THERE IS NOTHING IN MY DRIVING THAT WOULD HAVE CAUSED THIS. I AM CONCERNED THAT THIS APPARENT DEFECT MAY OCCUR ON MORE THAN JUST MY CAR AND MAY BE A PROBLEM WITH OTHER SIMILAR VEHICLES WITH 42,000 MILES ON THEM. THE DEALERSHIP HAD ALSO DONE RECALL WORK AT A DIFFERENT LOCATION ON THIS GAS TANK AND THE PROBLEM MAY HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE CARE THEY TOOK DOING THE RECALL WORK. THE CRACK IN THE TANK WHEN VIEWED IS BETWEEN A PLASTIC 2.5" DIA. TUBE PIECE IN THE UPPER CORNER OF THE TANK AND THE TANK ITSELF, THIS TUBE PIECE IS A SEPARATE PIECE THEY HAS BEEN ATTACHED TO THE PLASTIC TANK. THE SEAL BETWEEN THE TWO HAD BEEN BROKEN IS SOME WAY.*AK
PREMATURE FAILURE OF FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS AND LOWER CONTROL ARM BUSHINGS. DEALER STATES HE HAS SEEN THIS IN OTHER PT CRUISERS. *AK
I HAVE A 2001 PT CRUISER. I HAD AN INCIDENT IN WISCONSIN 11/24/03 WHERE MY STEERING WHEEL LOCKED AND COULD NOT BE UNLOCKED, THUS I COULD NOT START THE CAR. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP THE NEXT DAY. THEY FOUND NOTHING WRONG. ON 2/26/04 THE STEERING COLUMN WAS CLICKING. I TOOK IT TO A DEALERSHIP IN ST. LOUIS. THE STEERING COLUMN HAD TO BE REPLACED A BEARING WENT OUT AT 38913 MILES. THEN 8/31/04 I HAD JUST PULLED INTO MY SUBDIVISION AFTER A LONG TRIP AND THE CAR WOULD REV BUT DID NOT ACCELERATE. I TOOK IT TO A LOCAL GARAGE DUE TO THE MECHANICS STRIKE AT THE DEALERSHIPS. THE FRONT PUMP OF THE TRANSMISSION IS OUT AND NEEDS A NEW TRANSMISSION AT 47066 MILES. IN ADDITION, NEITHER OF THE TWO DEALERSHIPS MENTIONED A FUEL SYSTEM RECALLS THE WERE ISSUED IN 8/02 AND NOT COMPLETED ON MY CAR.*AK
MY 2001 PT CRUISER HAS A PROBLEM WITH CHROME PEELING FROM THE RIMS. ON 5/24/04 CHRYSLER REPLACED 3 OF THE RIMS BECAUSE THEY TOLD US THE CHROME WAS PEELING BECAUSE THEIR CHROME WAS TO BLAME. WE HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE 4TH RIM BUT NOW THE CHROME IS PEELING AROUND THE STEM WHICH INTURN IS MAKING THE AIR LEAK AND NOW CHRYSLER HAS SAID THEY WILL NOT FIX THE PROBLEM BECAUSE NOW IT IS AN ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUE. ON 11/22/04 WHILE DRIVING I LOST AIR PRESSURE AND THE CAR PULLED FROM ME, I HAD CONTROL BECAUSE I WAS ONLY GOING 20 MPH. I HAVE DONE RESEARCH AND CHRYSLER HAS REPLACED SOME RIMS AND NOT OTHERS, THERE IS A WHOLE WEB SITE OF PEOPLE WHO ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AND CHRYSLER DOESN'T WANT TO HELP OR HEAR ANYTHING MORE. MY CAR IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY AND I FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND COULD BECOME A HUGE PROBLEM. *JB
TRANS SHIFTER FAILED CAUSING VEHICLE TO LOCK UP. *MR THE DEALER STATED THE STARTER MALFUNCTION, BUT THE CONSUMER DISAGREED.*SCC *JB
THE CONSUMER CAN TAKE THE KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION SWITCH WITH THE VEHICLE RUNNING. CONSUMER WOULD HAVE TO TURN THE KEY AGAIN AS IF RESTARTING THE VEHICLE TO SHUT IT OFF. *AK
THE TIRES WERE LOSING AIR PRESSURE ON A DAILY BASIS WHICH CAUSED THE TIRES TO FILL UP WITH WATER. CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE GOODYEAR FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE RIMS CORRODED, CAUSING THE TIRES TO LOSE PRESSURE. *AK
HAVE A 2001 PT CRUISER. POOR PERFORMANCE IN GAS ECONOMY, FAILED CATALYTIC CONVERTER NOW EGR VALVE HAS FAILED, I BELIEVE IT IS DUE TO THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER FAILURE. SINCE CHRYSLER HAS HAD OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE WITH THE CRUISERS WHY HAVE THEY NOT BEEN REPAIRING THEM TO THE CUSTOMERS SATISFACTION?*AK
WHILE APPLYING BRAKES STEERING FAILED WITHOUT WARNING, CAUSING VEHICLE TO ROLL INTO TRAFFIC.*AK
FRONT BRAKE PADS CRYSTALIZE REQUIRING ROTOR REPLACEMENT EVERY 30000 MILES. BRAKE SHOP SAYS EVERY PT COMES IN THIS WAY. REAR BRAKES DO NOT ADJUST OUT AND THE FRONT BRAKES STAY PARTIALLY ENGAGED. THIS OVER HEATS THE BRAKES CAUSING MANY COMPONENTS TO FAIL. IN ADDITION TO THE EXPENSE OF REPLACEING THEESE PARTS, I AM WORRIED THAT I COULD HAVE A BRAKE SYSTEM FAILURE LEADING TO A CRASH.
2001 PT CRUISER, 5 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION, 60,000 MILES ENGINE SURGES WHEN CAR IS MOVING, MOST NOTICEABLE WHEN THE CAR IS NOT IN GEAR. WHEN COASTING THE ENGINE RPM WILL VARY BETWEEN 1,200 AND 2,000 RPM EVERY 3-4 SECONDS UNTIL THE CAR COMES TO A STOP AND THEN THE ENGINE RPM FALLS TO 800. WHEN THE CAR IS IN GEAR, THE CAR WILL ACCELERATE WITHOUT STEPPING ON THE GAS PEDAL. THE DEALER REPROGRAMMED THE POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE, BUT THAT ONLY FIXED THE PROBLEM FOR ONE DAY. THE CAR ENGINE CAN SURGE WHEN COASTING AND ABOUT TO MOVE INTO A PARKING SPOT OR GARAGE. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. *LA
IHAVE A DEFECTIVE RIM RESULTING IN A WHEEL THAT LOSES 1-2 POUNDS OF AIR PRESSURE PER WEEK. CHRYSLER HAS HAD THE CAR FOR SERVICE 4 TIMES IT THE LAST SIX WEEKS AND DENIES THERE IS A PROBLEM. *AK
WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE WENT OFF THE ROAD, HIT A DITCH, AND ROLLED OVER. FRONT AND SIDE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. DRIVER SUSTAINED BRAIN DAMAGE/A BROKEN CLAVICLE, AND FRACTURED BACK. COULD NOT BE DRIVEN. *AK
MY 2001 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER LIMITED EDITION -- LESS THAN 3 YEARS OLD, AFTER HAVING EVERY REQUIRED AND RECOMMENDED SERVICE AT THE CAR DEALERSHIP -- NEEDED A TRANSMISSION OVERHAUL ON THIS DATE. THE PROBLEM SURFACED JUST PAST 36,000 MILES WHILE I WAS ON VACATION IN LATE AUGUST, AND I INITIALLY TOOK IT TO THE DEALER ON SEPTEMBER 3. I WAS TOLD IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. BUT THE PROBLEM DID GET WORSE AND I FELT UNCOMFORTABLE DRIVING IT, YET I COULD NOT GET AN EARLIER APPOINTMENT. A NEW CAR, WELL CARED FOR, SHOULD NOT NEED ITS TRANSMISSION REBUILT JUST AFTER THE MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY RUNS OUT. *LA
) ON 9/2/03 I HAD TO TAKE THE CAR IN TO HAVE THE BRAKES CHECKED. PROBLEM FOUND WAS THE FRONT RIGHT CALIPER PISTON STUCK > CLOSED CAUSING UNEVEN WEAR > OF BRAKES PADS ( METAL TO METAL ON FRONT RIGHT AND 50% PADS ON OTHER THREE). DEALER REPLACED THE CALIPER PISTON, REPLACED PADS AND MACHINED ROTORS. HAD TO GET A RENTAL FOR ONE DAY. 2) ON 2/21/05 HAD THE CAR IN THE SHOP AGAIN TO HAVE THE TIRES ROTATED AND BRAKES CHECKED. DEALER SAID ALTHOUGH THE PADS WHERE WEARING EVENLY NOW, THEY STATED "BUT WORN OUT FRONT AND REAR", NEED TO BE REPLACED. BRAKES FRONT AND REAR, REPLACED FRONT ROTORS, RESURFACED REAR ROTORS" THIS TIME I HAD TO HAVE A RENTAL FOR THREE DAYS. 3) ON 3/12/05 NOT EVEN A MONTH LATER, WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY TO WORK THE, ENTIRE WINDSHIELD BECAME ENGULFED WITH STEAM, I COULD NOT SEE A THING AND THE WIPERS COULD NOT TAKE THE STEAM AWAY, SO AGAIN I HAD TO HEAD BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THIS CHECKED OUT. DEALER STATED "FOUND ENGINE COOLING FAN NOT WORKING & RADIATOR CAP NOT HOLDING PRESSURE" " REPLACED FAN AND RADIATOR CAP". ANOTHER RENTAL FOR TWO DAYS. 4) ON 6/14/06, 161 MILES AFTER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY RUNS OUT, I HAVE A MAJOR TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON, I GET THE CAR TO THE SHOP AND THE DEALER STATES TRANSMISSION SOLENOID PACK SHORTED OUT AND DAMAGED THE CONTROLLER AND I HAD TO HAVE THIS ITEM REPLACED. NO RENTAL REQUIRED THIS TIME BUT THE BILL WAS $1055.66 ON MY DIME. NOW ....THE GRAND DADDY OF THEM ALL! 5) THE CAR WAS BACK AT THE DEALER ON 8/1/06 FOR THE SAME FRONT RIGHT CALIPER PISTON ISSUE AS ON 9/2/03, BUT ON MY DIME THIS TIME. *JB
THE GAS PEDAL FELL OFF IT ATTACHMENT *AK THE PEDAL HAD COME OFF IT'S ATTACHMENT ON THE FLOORBOARD AND FELL BEHIND THE BRAKE PEDAL WHICH MADE BOTH THE GAS AND BRAKE PEDALS USELESS. *SCC *JB

VEHICLE WAS SENT TO DEALER FOR RECALL, SEVERAL MONTHS LATER THE FUEL LINE LEAKS ANYWAY AND CAUSES MODERATE DAMAGE VIA ENGINE FIRE. FUEL EXPLOSION OCCURRED UPON SWITCHING OFF THE IGNITION AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED. *AK
BOUGHT AN EARLY 2001 PT CRUISER. ABOUT ONE YEAR AFTER PURCHASE, BATTERY FAILS, CAR WOULD NOT START, JUMP STARTING DID NOT WORK. TOWED IT IT DEALER AND THEY REPLACED BATTERY AND SAID IT WAS FAULTY. ABOUT A YEAR AFTER THIS OCCURED, IT HAPPENED AGAIN, DEALER STILL SAYS IT IS THE BATTERY'S FAULT. IT HAPPENED AGAIN ON AUGUST 22, 2001 AND I PUT A SPARE BATTERY IN CAR AND DROVE TO DEALERSHIP. AGAIN THEY SAID THAT THE BATTERY WAS FAULTY. I BELIEVE THERE IS AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM WITH THE CAR.
2001 PT CRUSIER WAS HEAD HEAD ON BY ANOTHER VEHICLE AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED. $7,000.00 TO PT CRUISER AND AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. CHRYSLER REFUSED TO INVESTIGATE COMPLAINT SAYING THAT THEY ARE NOT MADE TO GO OFF ON STOPPED VEHICLES. MY CAR WAS STOPPED AT A TRAFFICE LIGHT WHEN HIT HEAD ON. INJURIES RESULTED

THE DIAGNOSIS WAS THAT THE WINDOW WAS NOT SEALED AND THE BOLTS WERE PULLED FROM THE FRAME. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 07V149000 (VISIBILITY:GLASS, SIDE/REAR). THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 90,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
