DASHBOARD STARTED TO CRACK JUST ONE MONTH OUTSIDE WARRANTY. 2 LARGE CRACKS ALMOST SPLITTING THE DASHBOARD IN HALF. THE CAR DOES SIT OUTSIDE BUT IT WAS ONLY ABOUT 3 YR OLD CAR. AFTER CALLING CHRYSLER TO COMPLAIN THEY AGREED TO PAY FOR THE PART AND I WAS TO ONLY PAY LABOR. *TR
CONSUMER STATES WHEN HITTING ANY TYPE OF BUMP IN THE ROAD TIRES BLOWOUT. ALL FOUR RIMS HAVE PITTED CRACKS IN THEM WHICH CAUSES THE BLOWOUTS. *AK
2001 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER: THE BATTERY LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON. I'VE TAKEN TO DEALER FOUR TIME NOW FOR THAT PROBLEM. HAD THE BATTERY REPLACED TWICE. HAD THE REGULATOR IN THE COMPUTER REPLACED. I AM STILL HAVING PROBLEMS. THE TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE REPLACED. IT IS A MANUAL TRANSMISSION. HAD THE CLUTCH REPLACED. ALL OF THIS DUE TO FAULTY PARTS! THE VEHICLE KEEPS PULLING TO THE RIGHT. HAD IT FIXED ONCE AND IT STILL PULLS. THE DATE ENTERED IS WHEN EVERYTHING STARTED. *CB
AFTER PARKING AND TURNING THE VEHICLE OFF AND REMOVING THE KEY, THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO RUN WITH THE KEY REMOVED, THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO RUN FOR 3 MINUTES TO AN HOUR BEFORE IT SHUT OFF. THE DEALER HAD EXAMINED THE VEHICLE 3 TIMES AND WAS UNABLE TO FIND THE PROBLEM. *JB
CHROME CORRODING AND FLAKING OFF ON ORIGINAL 16" TIRES. FIRST NOTICED IN 6/2003. DEALERSHIP OFFERED TO REPLACE ONE RIM FOR A CO-PAY OF $100 DUE TO THE SEVERITY OF DAMAGE. BUT WILL NOT HELP WITH ONE SHOWING SLIGHTER DAMAGE. *PH
2001 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER - ENGINE COMPARTMENT FUEL LINE ABRADED IN TWO BY A/C VALVE CAP. *NLM
CONSUMER STATES: 1ST TIME HEARD A CRUSHING NOISE WHEN HE WOULD TURN THE WHEEL. THE DEALER REPLACED THE STEERING COLUMN, THEN IN JULY 2003 HEARD A NOISE SOUND LIKE RUBBER ON RUBBER. THE STEERING RACK AND PINION ASSEMBLY WAS REPLACED. IN JULY 2004 THE NOISE WAS BACK AND THE STEERING RACK AND PINION WAS REPLACED AGAIN. NOW, THE NOISE IS BACK AND THEY ARE GOING TO REPLACE THE RACK AND PINION AGAIN. *AK *JB
THE FRONT PASSENGER AIR BAG NOT WORK. DEALER NOTIFIED, AND AGREED IT WAS NOT WORKING, HOWEVER THE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. *AK *TS *JB
I HAVE A 2001 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER. I HAD PURCHASED THE CAR USED BUT IN PERFECT CONDITION IN 2003 - APPROXIMATELY 6 MONTHS AFTER I PURCHASED THE CAR, MY DASHBOARD CRACKED. I DON'T MEAN A SMALL, HAIRLINE CRACK, BUT A CRACK WHERE IF IT WAS PUSHED ON IT WOULD CRUMBLE AND FALL. I TOOK IT TO OUR LOCAL FRIKINS CHRYSLER DEALER WHO TOLD ME THAT IT WAS DUE TO USING "ARMOR ALL". WHEN I TOLD HIM I DID NOT USE ANY "ARMOR ALL", HE SAID THAT IT WAS NOW DUE TO LACK OF CARE. I ALSO HAD TO HAVE THE "AIR BAG SENSOR" REPLACED 3 TIMES, IN WHICH MY DASH WAS FURTHER CRACKED - AND IT IS STILL NOT WORKING. THIS RUINS THE LOOK OF MY CAR. I WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING I COULD DO, UNTIL SOMEONE SUGGESTED FILE A COMPLAINT ON THE WEB SITE. THANK YOU. *TR
TRANSMISSION ON 2001 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER W/ 42000 MILES LET GO AND REPAIR SHOP SAYS IT IS IN PIECES. *AK
DT: THE CLUTCH CABLE ASSEMBLIES, THE BUSHINGS THAT ARE SUPPOSE TO BE AROUND THE CABLE WERE NEVER PUT ON VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT ABLE TO PUT INTO GEAR . TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE MECHANIC AND WAS TOLD BOTH CABLES HAD TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE ALL BUSHINGS WERE MISSING. THE PART THE MECHANIC RECEIVED FROM CHRYSLER HAD THE BUSHINGS ON IT. THE PROBLEM STARTED LAST YEAR, BUT SHE DID NOT KNOW THE BUSHINGS WERE MISSING UNTIL THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT SHIFT IN THE BEGINNING OF JUNE. AT THAT TIME, THE SENSOR LIGHT FOR THE ENGINE CHECK CAME ON. THAT WAS BECAUSE THE POWER STEERING SENSOR HAD TO BE REPLACED.*AK
VEHICLE WAS PARKED FOR APPROX. TWO DAYS, STARTED VEHICHLE AND ALL LIGHTS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL STAYED ON; BRAKE LIGHT, ABS LIGHT, ENGINE LIGHT, SECURITY LIGHT, CRUSIE CONTROL, ETC. AS WELL AS WORDS "NO BUG" OVER THE ODEMETER/MILEAGE GAGE. THESE LGHTS WOULD NOT GO OFF AFTER TURNING THE ENGINE ON AND OFF SEVERAL TIMES. THE ENGINE LIGHT STAYS ON AND WILL NOT SHUT OFF. SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT WITH DEALER TO CONNECT TO COMPUTER. *AK

I OWN A 2001 PT CRUISER. I TRIED TO HAVE A FLAT TIRE FIXED ON THIS CAR, THE TIRE SERVICE PERSON INFORMED ME THAT THE RIM HAD A CRACK THAT WAS MORE THEN AN INCH LONG AND THEY WOULD NOT ALLOW A NEW TIRE TO BE MOUNTED ON THE RIM. I HAD TO GET A FRIEND TO PICK ME AND MY CHILDREN UP AND GO WITHOUT MY CAR UNTIL I WAS ABLE TO LOCATE A REPLACEMENT RIM USED FROM A RIM DEALER IN DAYTON OHIO. ALL THE ORIGINAL RIMS BELONGING TO THIS CAR ARE PITTED, PEELING, SOME WON'T HOLD AIR OR ARE SPLIT. THE RIMS I'M TOLD ARE THE CAUSE OF TIRE FAILURE AND PREMATURE WEAR AND FREQUENT FLATS. I FIND THESE ISSUES TO CREATE UNSAFE DRIVING CONDITIONS. *TR
THE LEFT FRONT BRAKE ENGAGED ITSELF WITHOUT WARNING, WHICH CAUSED THE CONSUMER TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. *JB
STEERING PUMP FAILED 3 TIMES WITHIN A MONTH. THE LAST FAILURE RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT.*AK
2001 PT CRUISER, CALIPER FREEZING TO ROTOR CAUSING BRAKE PADS TO WEAR DOWN TO MEDAL AND ROTOR TO TURN BLUE, ONLY ON PASSENGER FRONT SIDE OF VEHICLE. I HAVE THE BRAKE PADS FROM THE VEHICLE AND THE PADS FROM THE DRIVER'S SIDE LOOK LIKE NEW. I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH DAIMLER CHRYSLER OVER THE WARRANTY ON THE CALIPER AND CONTEMPORARY CHRYSLER DODGER SAID IT WAS "NORMAL WEAR" AND "BRAKE DUST AND DIRT PARTICLES" THAT CAUSE THE CALIPER TO STICK? I BELIEVE IT IS NOT NORMAL FOR ONE SIDE TO BE WORN DOWN TO THE MEDAL? THE RIGHT REAR CALIPER FROZE AND CAUSED THE SAME PROBLEM AT APPROXIMATELY. 20,316 MI. BUT THE SERVICE WAS PERFORMED AT A DIFFERENT DEALER. ALSO, CAUSING SHIMMY IN THE FRONT END. *JB

REAR SUSPENSION PART BROKE. BELL CRANK BROKE CAUSING A LOUD KNOCKING NOISE. DEALER SAID THAT FUTHER DRIVING COULD HAVE RESULTED IN BACK SUSPENSION FALLING OF OF CAR IN A CATASTOPHIC FAILURE.
2001 PT CRUISER ...FAILURE OF DAIMLER CHRYSLER AND MEDVED CHRYSLER IN CASTLE ROCK CO. TO TIMELY AND PROPERLY ADVISE US OF THE NATURE OF THE DEFECT AND MAKE THE NECESSARY REPAIRS IN A TIMELY MANNER. I SENT A DETAILED LETTER ON 3/18/03 TO NHSTA, ODI WITH THE EXACT SEQUENCE OF EVENTS. PLEASE PROVIDE AN EMAIL ADDRESS AND I WILL BE GLAD TO EMAIL IT TO YOU. *JB
CONSUMER RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER FROM THE MANUFACTURER, HOWEVER THE DEALER REFUSED TO HONOR THE RECALL LETTER, BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURERED IN CANADA. *JB
WHILE DRIVING CAR, THE SUNROOF GLASS SUDDENLY CRACKED UPWARD AND THEN SHATTERED. IT HAD NEVER BEEN HIT BY ANYTHING EITHER FROM ABOVE OR BELOW. THE SUNSHADE WAS OPEN AT THE TIME, BUT THE SUNROOF GLASS WAS NOT RETRACTED AT ALL. THE GLASS WAS NOT CRACKED, PITTED OR DAMAGED IN ANY OTHER WAY BEFORE CRACKING AND SHATTERING. ALTHOUGH THE GLASS WAS HELD TOGETHER FOR THE MOST PART BY THE OUTSIDE SUNFILM, THE SUNFILM WAS CRACKED IN SEVERAL PLACES, AND SMALL SHARDS OF GLASS SPRAYED THROUGHOUT THE PASSENGER CABIN. FORTUNATELY, I WAS THE ONLY OCCUPANT OF THE CAR AT THE TIME AND WAS NOT INJURED, BUT IT COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH WORSE AS THE SHATTERED GLASS COULD HAVE INJURED MY EYES. TO PREVENT MORE GLASS FROM COMING INTO THE CABIN, I CLOSED THE INTERIOR SUNSHADE AND EVENTUALLY PUT PLASTIC OVER THE SUNROOF TO PREVENT MOISTURE FROM COMING INTO THE CAR. I WENT TO THE DEALER THE SAME DAY TO ARRANGE FOR REPAIR. THE SERVICE MANAGER CALLED THE LOCAL DAIMLERCHRYSLER REP TO SEE IF CHRYSLER WOULD REPLACE THE GLASS UNDER WARRANTY. THE LOCAL REP TOLD THE SERVICE MANAGER THAT DAIMLERCHRYSLER WOULD NOT WARRANTY THE GLASS AND REFERRED ME TO MY CAR INSURER. HE NEVER SAW THE CAR. I HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS DEFECT MYSELF. I CHECKED THE WARRANTY SUPPLIED WITH THE CAR AND FOUND NO EXCLUSION FOR GLASS OR FOR DEFECTS IN THE SUNROOF. I HAVE CHECKED AND FOUND THAT OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE SAME RESPONSE FROM DAIMLERCHRYSLER. TO ME, THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM THAT SHOULD BE ADDRESSED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. AS TROUBLING AS IT IS THAT THE SUNROOF BROKE AND THAT DAIMLERCHRYSLER WILL DO NOTHING, IT IS EVEN SCARIER THAT THE SAFETY GLASS SHATTERED, SCATTERING INJURY-CAUSING SHARDS OF GLASS, NOT THE USUAL PEBBLES, THROUGHOUT THE PASSENGER CABIN. SAFETY GLASS IS SUPPOSED TO BE EXACTLY THAT - SAFE. THIS SUNROOF AND THE GLASS IT IS MADE OF ARE NOT.
OUTCOME OF MY COMPLAINT #769146 DATED MAY 1, 2001. THE PROBLEMS WITH THE CHROME WHEELS WAS FINALLY RESOLVED WHEN CHRYSLER REPLACED THE FRONT TWO CHROME WHEELS AT 24,000 MILES BECAUSE THEY WERE BOTH OUT-OF-ROUND SINCE NEW, CREATING THE WOBBLE IN THE STEERING, UNEVEN STEERING, VIBRATION AND TIRE WEAR. I AM STILL AWAITING REIMBURSEMENT FOR THE TWO NEW PRO-RATED (BY GOODYEAR) EAGLE GT TIRES ON THE FRONT, AS WELL AS AWAITING WORD ABOUT A PROMISE TO REEPLACE THE TWO REAR EAGLE GT TIRES AS WELL. ANYONE WITH THE SAME WHEEL AND/OR TIRE PROBLEMS CAN WRITE TO ME AND I WILL ADVISE YOU AS TO WHAT TO DO....JOHNGUBBIO@AOL.COM
THE TIMING BELT FAILED, WHICH CAUSED THE ENGINE TO STALL.*JB
ON 1/22/ 03 WE TOOK OUR 2001 PT CRUISER (ODOMETER 12,000 MILES) INTO THE DEALER BECAUSE THE FRONT DISC BRAKES WERE SQUEALING. WE HAD PREVIOUSLY NOTED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT DISC BRAKE HAD LOCKED WHEN WE TRIED TO BACK THE CAR OUT OF THE GARAGE. AFTER HITTING THE BRAKES SEVERAL TIMES, THE BRAKE FINALLY UNLOCKED. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD US THAT THE FRONT ROTORS ON BOTH SIDES WERE GROOVED AND COULD NOT BE TURNED BECAUSE THE METAL WAS SO THIN TO BEGIN WITH THAT THERE WAS NOT ENOUGH TO MACHINE EVEN ON A BRAND NEW ROTOR. THE DEALER ALSO TOLD US WE DIDN'T NEED TO REPLACE THE PADS YET, JUST THE ROTORS. WE OPTED TO REPLACE BOTH THE PADS AND THE ROTORS AT THE TIME DUE TO THE LABOR COSTS. IT IS NOW 8 MONTHS AND 5,671 MILES LATER AND THE BRAKES ARE AGAIN SQUEALING. WE CALLED THE DEALERSHIP TO SEE IF THEY WOULD DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE PROBLEM. THEY SAID THEIR HANDS WERE TIED AND THEY COULD NOT HELP US OTHER THAN TO REPLACE WITH THE SAME PARTS. ACCORDING TO THE SERVICE MANAGER, CHRYSLER IS VERY MUCH AWARE THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE DISC BRAKE ROTORS AND PREMATURE WEAR, BUT THEY REFUSE TO TAKE ANY REMEDIAL STEPS. WE HAVE THE SAME TIRES THAT ORIGINALLY CAME ON THE CAR AND THEY ARE BARELY WORN INDICATING WE ARE NOT THE KIND OF DRIVERS WHO ARE HARD ON A CAR. THE SERVICE MANAGER APPEARS TO BE JUST A FRUSTRATED WITH CHRYSLER'S LACK OF ATTENTION TO THIS PROBLEM AS WE ARE. OUR ONLY REASONABLE AND INTELLIGIBLE RECOURSE IS TO HAVE THE ROTORS AND PADS REPLACED WITH AFTER MARKET PRODUCTS. WE WILL NOT USE OEM ROTORS & PADS AGAIN. THIS IS NOT NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. THIS IS FAULTY MANUFACTURING OR FAULTY DESIGN OR BOTH. IN CHECKING YOUR WEBSITE FOR 2001/2002 PT CRUISERS, WE SEE THAT SEVERAL OTHER OWNERS HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH THEIR DISC BRAKES. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS WELL AS A MONETARY ISSUE. PLEASE INVESTIGATE. *JB
THE TRANSMISSION WENT OUT ON MY CAR A 2001 P.T. CRUISER WITH ONLY 44243 MILES ON IT, THE VEHICLE IS ONLY 17 MONTHS OLD.
WHEN A MODERATE LEFT TURN WAS MADE, THERE WAS A RUBBING NOISE HEARD. LATER, AS THE VEHICLE MADE ANOTHER LEFT TURN, THERE WAS A LOUD POP/BANG HEARD, AND THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY VEERED SHARPLY INTO A HARD LEFT TURN. THE VEHICLE HIT A CONCRETE BASE. TIRE LOOSES AIR DUE TO DEFECT OF WHEELS. MANUFACTURER AGREED TO REPLACE BOTH REAR WHEELS. NOW SHE IS EXPERIENCING SAME PROBLEM WITH BOTH FRONT WHEELS. WHEN CONTACTING MANUFACTURER, THEY WOULD NOT ACCOMMODATE TO REPLACE REAR WHEELS. THIS IS FOR A 2001 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER. *NM......*AK
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT 60MPH THE VEHICLE STALLED OUT AND DIE WITHOUT WARNING. DEALER HAS REPLACED HEAD CASKET. ON DECEMBER 23 VEHICLE STALLED AGAIN WHILE DRIVING AT 40MPH THIS TIME DUE TO A FAULTY TRANSMISSION, DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. TS *TR
CHROME IS FLAKING OFF WHEEL CAUSING THE WHEEL TO LOSE AIR
AT 24,226 MILES, I NOTICED A LOUD NOISE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. I WAS TOLD THAT THE POWER STEERING PUMP HAD TO BE REPLACED. THIS AGAIN HAS HAPPENED 4 MORE TIMES SINCE DEC 11, 2002. EACH TIME THE POWER STEERING PUMP HAD TO BE REPLACED, TWO RACK AND PINION STEERING ASSEMBLIES, AND ALL OF THE HOSES. THE LAST TWO TIMES, MY EXTENDED WARRANTY SERVICE HAS HAD TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS AS CHRYSLER TELLS ME THAT SINCE I HAVE THE WARRANTY, THEY WILL NOT EXCEPT RESPONSIBILITY EVEN THOUGH THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING OVER AND OVER AGAIN SINCE 24,000 MILES. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THE FACT THAT CHRYSLER WILL NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCTS. THESE 5 FAILURES HAVE ALL HAPPENED IN LESS THAN 31,000 MILES. I AM VERY AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR NOW AS I HAVE BEEN LUCKY TO CATCH THE PROBLEM BEFORE THE POWER STEERING PUMP FAILS COMPLETELY.*AK

THE BRAKE LIGHT ILLUMINATED WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP. THE CONSUMER WAS UNHAPPY WITH THE CUSTOMER SERVICE. *PH *NLM

WHEN THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED, CONSUMER WAS INJURED, IN A SEPARATE INCIDENT, CONSUMER WAS INVOLVED IN A COLLISION AND THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. TS *JB
PRIOR TO RECEIVING A RECALL NOTICE ON THE POWER STEERING HOSE. ON 2 SEPARATE OCCASIONS I HAD MY OIL CHANGED THE MECHANIC SAID HE TOPPED OFF MY POWER STEERING FLIUD IT WAS A LITTLE LOW. WHEN I RECEIVED THE RECALL NOTICE I ARRANGED TO HAVE THE HOSE REPAIRED (SERRA CRYSLER,JEEP ETC). I WAS TOLD BY THE MECHANIC THAT THE HOSE WAS DAMAGED AND MUST BE REPLACED. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AFTER DIAGONISTIC CHECKING I WAS TOLD THAT THE POWER STEERING SWITCH WAS BAD AND NEEDED REPLACING. THIS COST $68.00. MY QUESTION IS IF THE POWERING STEERING ASSIST HOSE,PIPING & CONNECTIONS ARE BAD, DID THAT CONTRIBUTE TO THE POWER STEERING SWITCH GOING BAD? THE MANAGER JAY JORDON SAID THAT ONE HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE OTHER. SO I PAID FOR THE SWITCH & LABOR. COULD SOMEONE LET ME KNOW IF THIS IS A CONTRIBUTING FACTOR SO OTHERS WILL BE PREPARED TO PAY THE EXTRA COST.

REAR BRAKES ON 2001 PT CRUISER W/25000 MILES MAKES GRINDING NOISES WHEN COMING TO A STOP AS IF THE PADS ARE WORN OUT. DEALER HAS CHECKED THE BRAKES MULTIPLE TIMES AND SAID THEY'RE SHOWING NORMAL WEAR ON THE PADS. I WAS TOLD THAT THEY'VE EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM ON OTHER CRUISERS AND DODGE NEON'S AND THERE'S NOTHING THEY CAN DO.
WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45MPH, VEHICLE WAS HIT ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE CAUSING CONSUMER'S VEHICLE TO FLIP OVER. CONSUMER'S DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. THE OTHER VEHICLE WAS TRAVELLING APPROXIMATELY 20MPH AT TIME OF COLLISION. TS
