LEFT SIDE FRONT WHEEL BEARING FAILURE. I REGRET NOT HAVING SAVED THE BROKEN BEARING. THE FAILURE OCCURRED AT SLOW SPEED WHILE MAKING A LEFT TURN AND WAS SIGNALED BY A VARY LOUD CRUNCHING SOUND. IT WAS SUDDEN AND SEVERE ENOUGH THAT WE DETERMINED IT NEED IMMEDIATE REPAIR. WE CONSIDER OURSELVES LUCKY THIS OCCURRED AS WE PULLED OFF A FOUR LANE HIGHWAY. OUR PREVIOUS SPEED HAD BEEN ABOUT 60 MPH. THIS CAR HAS HAD REGULAR MAINTENANCE HAD BEEN SERVICED AT THE CHRYSLER DEALER WITH IN THE PAST THREE MONTHS. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 PT CRUSIER TURBO AND I RECENTLY HAD ONE OF MY TIRES GO FLAT WITH NO PUNCTURE OR DAMAGE TO THE TIRE. I REPLACED THE TIRE AND IN TWO WEEKS THE NEW TIRE WENT FLAT, AGAIN NO APPARENT DAMAGE. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE TIRE STORE, THEY SAID THAT THE TIRE WAS FINE, HOWEVER THE INSIDE OF THE RIM WAS PEELING OFF AND THE SEAL THAT IS FORMED COULD NOT HOLD DUE THIS PEELING OF THE COATING ON THE RIM. I ASKED FOR A NEW TIRE, THEY AGREED AND IT HELD FOR ABOUT THREE WEEKS, HOWEVER WHEN THE WEATHER GOT EXTREMELY COLD, THE TIRE WENT FLAT OVER NIGHT AGAIN WITH NO DAMAGE. THE RIMS ARE DEFECTIVE ACCORDING TO THE TIRE DEALER. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE WAS UNABLE TO TURN HER STEERING COLUMN. SHE ALSO SMELLED A STRONG BURNING ODOR EMANATING FROM HER VEHICLE. A LOCAL MECHANIC STATED THAT THE RACK AND PINION AND STEERING HOSE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VIN WAS EXCLUDED FROM NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 04V268000 (STEERING:HYDRAULIC POWER ASSIST:HOSE, PIPING, AND CONNECTIONS). THEY WOULD NOT ASSUME ANY FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE REPAIRS. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 67,000.
IN 2007 I WAS DRIVING WHEN I STARTED HEARING A KNOCKING SOUND IN MY TIRES. I WAS HAD THE VEHICLE CHECKED IMMEDIATELY, BUT NO DETERMINATION WAS FOUND. OVER THE YEAR I WAS FORCED TO REPLACE MY TIRES 3 TIMES BECAUSE THEY WOULD WEAR AND I WOULD SLIDE AND THE TIRES WOULD SKID IN SIMPLE WEATHER. IN MARCH OF 2008 I HAD TO REPAIR MORE TIRES AND MY BALL JOINTS ON BOTH SIDES IN THE FRONT WITH WHEEL ALIGNMENTS. ALSO IN 2007 I STARTED HEARING A SQUEALING SOUND IN THE ENGINE, I HAD IT CHECKED IMMEDIATELY AND WAS TOLD MY POWER STEERING PUMP WOULD NEED REPLACING. BUT DECREASED ONCE THE MECHANIC PUT IN POWER STEERING FLUID. SINCE THEN EVEN NOW I STILL HEAR THE SQUEAKING AND EVERY MONTH I HAVE TO PUT IN STEERING FLUID. I CALLED CHRYSLER REGARDING RECALLS RELATING TO THESE PROBLEMS AND WAS TOLD NO RECALLS WERE IN EFFECT. I HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY INFO IN 2008 REGARDING THESE RECALLS THAT I NOW SEE ONLINE. ALSO MY AUTOMATIC STICK SHIFT STICKS ESPECIALLY WHEN IT'S COLD OUTSIDE. I HAVE ALMOST HIT SOMETHING HEAD ON TWICE SINCE DECEMBER 2008 BECAUSE IT IS HARD TO SHIFT IN PARK OR NEUTRAL. *TR
LEFT WORK TO FIND THE BATTERY WAS DEAD. GOT IT JUMPED AND WENT HOME. WHEN I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND REMOVED THE KEY, I NOTICED THAT THE FOG LIGHT INDICATOR LIGHT REMAINED ON. I CHECKED THE LIGHTS AND FOUND THAT THEY WERE STILL ON. I TURNED THE LIGHTS ON, SIGNALED LEFT AND RIGHT, JIGGLED IT AROUND AND THE INDICATOR LIGHT FINALLY WENT OFF. AFTER A COUPLE MORE OCCASIONS OF BATTERY DYING (AT THIS POINT THE FOG LIGHT RANDOMLY STAYED ON) EVENTUALLY I FIGURED OUT THAT IF I LEFT THE LIGHT CONTROLLED IN THE LEFT TURN SIGNAL POSITION WHEN I TURNED OFF THE CAR THE FOGS WOULD TURN OFF. THIS WAS THE ONLY WAY THEY WOULD TURN OFF. AT SOME POINT WE REPLACED THE FUSE, BUT THE PROBLEM CONTINUED TO OCCUR OFF AND ON. OTHER ELECTRICAL ISSUES HAVE OCCURRED AS WELL. THE PASSENGER SIDE WINDOWS NO LONGER GO UP OR DOWN. THIS IS ESPECIALLY PROBLEMATIC BECAUSE IT IS A CONVERTIBLE AND THE WINDOWS MOVE UP AND DOWN AN INCH OR SO WHENEVER THE DOOR IS OPENED AND CLOSED IN ORDER TO SEAL SHUT. RAIN COMES INTO THE GAP BETWEEN THE WINDOW AND ROOF BECAUSE THE WINDOW NO LONGER SEALS SHUT. I HAVEN'T EVEN TRIED TO PUT THE TOP DOWN IN A COUPLE YEARS FOR FEAR THAT I WILL NOT GO BACK UP, SO I DON'T EVEN KNOW IF THAT WORKS. LIVING IN THE CITY OF ATLANTA, I AM REQUIRED TO GET AN EMISSIONS TEST DONE EACH YEAR IN ORDER TO RENEW MY REGISTRATION. DUE TO THE BATTERY DYING, I FAILED THE EMISSIONS TEST BECAUSE THE COMPUTER SYSTEM DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH MILEAGE TO SHOW NECESSARY DATA. I TRULY REGRET THE PURCHASE OF THIS CAR! *TR
THE TIRE ON MY 2005 PT CRUISER WAS FLAT AND WHEN I WENT TO GET IT FIXED WAS TOLD THAT THE TIRE WAS FINE BUT THE FINISH WAS COMING OFF THE RIM AND THIS CAUSED THE TIRE TO GO FLAT. I WENT TO A NATIONAL AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR CHAIN TO GET IT FIXED. I WAS TOLD THAT THEY COULD PUT A TYPE OF SEALANT AROUND THE TIRE SO IT WOULD NOT GO FLAT. THEY COULD NOT GUARANTEE IT WOULD NOT GO FLAT AS THEY STATED THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR PT CRUISERS. I HAVE TALKED TO OTHER PT CRUISER OWNERS AND LOOKED ON THE INTERNET IN REGARDS TO THIS AND FOUND THAT INDEED, THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS PARTICULAR CAR MODEL. I FEEL THAT THIS IS A DEFECT AND THAT THE COMPANY SHOULD REPLACE THE RIMS BEFORE A TIRE OR TIRES GO FLAT WHILE DRIVING THE CAR. I WAS FORTUNATE AS THE CAR WAS PARKED. BUT TO BE STUCK IN WINTER WITH THE POSSIBILITY OF HAVING MULTIPLE FLATS WHILE DRIVING IS A VERY RISKY VENTURE FOR ME AS WELL AS THE PUBLIC. I WOULD APPRECIATE HAVING THIS MATTER LOOKED INTO AND WHAT MY FUTURE OPTIONS ARE IN REGARD TO MY PT CRUISER. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHROME WHEELS WERE FLAKING. AS A RESULT, THE AIR PRESSURE WAS SEEPING OUT AND CAUSING THE TIRES TO GO FLAT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE HAD TO REPLACE THE TIRES A TOTAL OF SEVEN TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS NOT WITH THE TIRES BUT WITH THE RIM ITSELF. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF FAILURE WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 91,000.
REAR QUARTER WINDOW FLEW OFF OF CAR. PASSENGER QUARTER WINDOW DID THE SAME THING IN MAY08. CHRYSLER IS SAYING THERE IS NO RECALL FOR THE MONTH MY CAR WAS MADE. *TR
ON DECEMBER 2, 2007 MY RIGHT FRONT TIRE BLEW APART. AFTER GETTING TIRE CHANGED I WENT TO WALMART AND BOUGHT A NEW TIRE. ON JULY 22, 2008 THE SAME KIND OF TIRE AGAIN HAD A PROBLEM WITH A DEFECTIVE BELT AND HAD TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. THE TIRE WAS A GOODYEAR VIVA 2 P195/65R15BW VIVA 2. FORTUNATELY I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE SAFELY TO A PLACE TO HAVE THE TIRE CHANGED BUT HAD TO BUY A NEW TIRE EACH TIME. *TR UPDATED 08/27/08
MY 2005 PT CRUISER CHRYSLER AT 49,661 MILES WAS IN AN ACCIDENT RIGHT FRONT END THERE WAS NO PROBLEMS BEFORE WHEN CAR WAS RETURNED IT WAS MAKING A NOISE THAT IS COMING FROM THE RIGHT TIRE WHEN I RETURNED IT TO THE INSURANCE COMPANY PROGRESSIVE THEY HAD IT LOOKED AT AND STATED THE FRONT BEARING AND HUB WAS GONE AND THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AS I CHECKED SOME SITES ON LINE IT APPEARS TO HAPPEN ALL THE TIME AND NEITHER THE INSURANCE NOR E CHRYSLER FEELS THIS DEFECT IS ANY OF THERE FAULTS. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER. WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE'S TEMPERATURE GAUGE DIAL WOULD RISE ABOVE THE HALFWAY MARK. THE FAN HAD TO BE ACTIVATED IN ORDER FOR THE DIAL TO RETURN TO ITS NORMAL POSITION. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FAN AND THERMOSTAT FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THERE WAS NO RECALL REGARDING THIS FAILURE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 69,029 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 64,000.
WHILE DRIVING FELT LIKE CAR WAS GOING OVER MINI-SPEED BUMPS. TOOK IT TO TIRE STORE AND FOUND OUT IT WASN'T THE TIRES AND THEY RECOMMENDED THE DEALERSHIP. AT THE DEALERSHIP THEY INFORMED ME IT WAS THE LEFT-FRONT BEARING AND I SHOULDN'T BE DRIVING ON IT AT ALL BECAUSE THE WHEEL COULD FALL OFF. HAD IT REPAIRED THERE. PICKED UP VEHICLE A WEEK LATER AND STEERING STILL DIDN'T FEEL RIGHT. TOOK IT BACK AND THEY DETERMINED THAT THE RIGHT FRONT KNUCKLE NEEDED REPAIRED. ALSO HAD IT DONE THERE BECAUSE I WAS VISITING FROM OUT OF TOWN AND NEEDED WORK COMPLETED TO GET BACK HOME. LESS THAN 9 MTHS LATER AND CAR SOUNDS LIKE AN AIRPLANE. LIVING ON DIFFERENT COAST SO WENT TO A RECOMMENDED MECHANIC. INFORMED LEFT FRONT BEARING NEEDS REPAIRED. *TR
THE FOG LAMPS STAY ON EVEN WHEN THE SWITCH IS IN THE "OFF" POSITION. I HAVE READ MANY OTHER OWNER'S COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS HAS RESULTED IN MY BATTERY BEING DRAINED TWICE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER. THE CONTACT HAD 3-D CRYSTAL ANGEL STICKERS ON THE CORNER PANEL OF HER WINDSHIELD FOR DECORATIVE PURPOSES. SHE RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FROM THE MANUFACTURER FOR THE CORNER PANEL WINDSHIELD, STATING THAT IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. SHE TOOK HER VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT DUE TO THE 3-D ANGEL STICKERS ON HER GLASS, THEY COULD NOT PERFORM THE RECALL REPAIR. THE CONTACT BELIEVES THAT IT IS DANGEROUS TO NOT HAVE A WORKING WINDSHIELD, AND THE DEALER SHOULD FOLLOW THROUGH WITH THEIR RECALL REPAIR REGARDLESS OF THE STICKERS. THE VIN AND RECALL NUMBER WERE UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 68,000.
2005 PT CRUISER REAR QUARTER GLASS FLEW OUT OF CAR AND ACROSS 2 LANES OF TRAFFIC. NO ONE WAS HURT. I CALLED CHRYSLER TO CHECK RECALL AND THEY SAID MY VIN WAS NOT COVERED HOWEVER OTHER 2005'S ARE RECALL 07V149000. *TR
2005 PT CRUISER CONVERTIBLE 5 SPD MANUAL. HAVE BEEN VERY UNSATISFIED W/ CAR'S PERFORMANCE. BEARINGS IN BOTH FRONT AXLES HAD TO BE REPLACED AT 61,000 MILES B/C OF SIGNIFICANT WEAR, MAKING CAR UNSAFE TO DRIVE. RIGHT FRONT WHEEL SQUEAKED WHEN I TURNED OR JUST DROVE STRAIGHT, AND STARTED MAKING THUMPING NOISE IN AXLE AS I DROVE. ALSO, ROOF HAS A MINOR LEAK INTO TRUNK WHEN IT RAINS HARD; CANNOT FIND THE SOURCE WHERE IT IS LEAKING. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER STEERING HOSE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER STEERING HOSE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000.
2005 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER TOURING ED. - PURCHASED AT DODGE DEALERSHIP, EXTENDED WARRANTY CONTRACT PURCHASED, AND VEH. WAS A CERTIFIED VEH. AT TIME OF PURCHASE, WITHIN THE FIRST 30 DAYS VEH. WAS IN FOR A NEW HEADGASKET, LESS THAN 13K MILES, REPLACED FRONT BRAKES AND SHOES WITHIN THE FIRST 15K MILES, NOW DRIVING TO WORK IN HEAVY TRAFFIC CONDITIONS, AND AS I WAS COMING TO A CONGESTED INTERSECTION, THE CAR WENT COMPLETELY DEAD, TOTAL LOSS OF PWR, CARS WERE SLAMMING ON BRAKES SWERVING TO NOT REAREND MY VEH. THAT WAS PWR LESS. NO BRAKE LIGHTS, NO HAZZ. LIGHTS, AND NOWHERE TO GO BUT SIT FRANTICALLY IN THE MIDDLE OF CARS NEAR MISSING ME AS EACH ONE PASSED BY, IT MUST HAVE BEEN 3 MIN. AS I CONTINUALLY TRIED TO START THE VEH, AND NOW POWER AT ALL, NOT A SOUND, THEN OUT OF NOWHERE IT STARTED UP AS IF THERE WAS NEVER A PROBLEM AT ALL, 73K MILES AND NOW THIS. WHAT NEXT, AM I GOING TO FIND OUT WHAT THE OTHER 10 INCIDENTS THAT ARE IDENTICAL TO THIS PWR FAILURE SITUATION THAT THERE IS NO MECHANICAL RESOLUTION TO THIS AT ALL, AND I WILL JUST HAVE TO TAKE MY CHANCES EVERY TIME I GET IN AND DRIVE HOPING THAT IT NEVER HAPPENS ON THE FREEWAY, IS SOMEONE GOING TO HAVE TO LOOSE THEIR LIFE BEFORE CHRYSLER ACK. THE FOG LIGHTS WOULD NOT SHUT OFF. TECHNICIAN AT THE DEALERSHIP REMOVED THE FUSE UNTIL WE COULD SCHEDULE THEM TO WORK ON IT. WHEN WE TOOK IT IN TO BE FIXED, THEY REPLACED THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH. *TR
MY 2005 CHRYSLER PT CRUISERS HORN IS NOT LOUD ENOUGH . THE DEALERSHIP SAID THAT IS THE WAY THE HORN IS . CHRYSLER FAILED TO ADD THE SECOND TONE HORN ON THIS VEHICLE . THEY ONLY PUT THE LOW TONE HORN IN THESE CARS . MANY TIMES I HAVE USED MY HORN TO WARN OTHER VEHICLES OF A POTENTIAL ACCIDENT , ONLY TO HAVE THEM IGNORE MY WEAK HORN . I HAVE HAD TO TAKE EVASIVE ACTION TO AVOID THESE ACCIDENTS . *TR
I OWN A 2005 PT CRUISER TURBO. HAVE HAD CONTINUING PROBLEMS WITH THE AIR LEAKING OUT OF THE TIRES. FINALLY, WAS TOLD THE RIMS HAD A COATING PROBLEM THAT ERODED SO THEY DON'T SEAL PROPERLY. HAD TO BUY 4 NEW RIMS. SOUNDS LIKE A MANUFACTURING DEFECT TO ME SINCE THE TIRE COMPANY SAID THIS WAS COMMON ON THE PT CRUISER. *TR
FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS ARE SHOT WITH JUST 56,000 MILES. *TR
TL*- THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER. WHILE DRIVING AT 10 MPH THE CONTACT HAD TROUBLE STEERING. THE STEERING WHEEL TURNED, BUT WAS STIFF AND SHE HAD TO USE BOTH HANDS. THE CONTACT PUT POWER STEERING FLUID INTO THE VEHICLE AND THE STEERING BECAME EASIER. THE STEERING BECAME STIFF AGAIN AND SHE REALIZED THAT THE POWER STEERING FLUID WAS LEAKING. SHE WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE HOME AND LATER HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALER AND REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 13,700. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 13,490. WHEEL VIBRATION AND LOOSE STEERING THEN GRINDING NOISE; FOUND BOTH FRONT WHEEL BEARING BAD ON 2005 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER - MILEAGE IS 15, 600; WAITING FOR REPAIR AT DEALER - ESTIMATE OF $500 - $600 TO REPAIR PLUS ALIGNMENT COSTS. *TR
FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS ON BTH SIDES FAILED AFTER 40K MILES, LOWER CONTROL ARM BUSHINGS FAILED AT 30K MILES. *TR
I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THIS CAR MORE THAN ANY OTHER NEW VEHICLE I'VE OWNED. I HAD AC COMPRESSOR PROBLEMS STILL UNDER WARRANTY... I REPLACED THE ALTERNATOR AND BATTERY AT 36700 MILES. NOW, BOTH FRONT WHEEL HUB AND BEARING ASSEMBLIES ARE SHOT, AND WILL BE REPLACED AT 43,000 MILES. I BOUGHT THIS CAR NEW, AND IT IS MY 3RD AND LAST CHRYSLER PRODUCT. I HAD AN 2002 PT, THIS 2005 CRUISER, AND I'VE GOT AN 2006 CRUISER THAT IS STARTING TO SHOW SIGNS OF WHEEL BEARING ISSUES. *TR
AFTER ONLY 35.5K MILES THE DEALERSHIP MECHANIC INFORMED ME THAT BOTH FRONT HUBS AND BEARINGS NEED REPLACEMENT. AN ONLINE SEARCH REVEALED MANY MANY OWNERS WITH THE SAME COMPLAINT. UNSAT! *TR
I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT TROUBLE WITH MY 2005 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER, BUT THE FINAL STRAW IS WHEN, AFTER FILLING THE GAS TANK AND STARTING IT - THE CAR BACKFIRED AND BLEW THE PLUGS. COST TO REPLACE $2,900.00. THIS HAPPENING RIGHT AFTER I SPENT $1,400.00 TO REPLACE BUSHINGS AND TIE RODS. CHRYSLER CORPORATE ASKED ME TO TAKE IT TO ONE OF THEIR DEALERS IN WHICH I DID. CHRYSLER CORPORATE NOR THE DEALER WILL DISCUSS THE FACTORY DEFECT STATING NO KNOW REASON FOR A VEHICLE TO BLOW TWO PLUGS WHEN IT ONLY HAS 81,000 MILES ON IT. *TR

CAR ONLY HAS APPX 55,000 MILES - BROUGHT CAR IN FOR OIL CHANGE AND TO FIX SLOW LEAK IN TIRE, WAS ADVISED THAT FRONT WHEEL BEARING HAS TO BE REPLACED. THIS IS A PART THAT SUPPOSEDLY SHOULD GET AT LEAST 85K WORTH OF USE BEFORE REPLACEMENT AND IS PART OF A COMPLETELY SEALED SYSTEM IN THE PT, SO THIS IS A RATHER DANGEROUS AND EXPENSIVE ($400) REPAIR FOR SUCH A "YOUNG" CAR.*CN

I OWN A 2005 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER WITH 40,000 MILES ON IT. THE WARRANTY IS UP AND I JUST FOUND OUT THAT THE FRONT AXLE BEARING IS SHOT. MY MECHANIC WAS VERY SHOCKED TO DISCOVER THIS ON SUCH A NEW CAR AND SAID IT WAS VERY UNSAFE. I AM VERY UPSET WITH CHRYSLER SINCE I HAVE COME TO FIND OUT THAT THIS IS A CHRONIC PROBLEM WITH THE PT CRUISER AND HAPPENS ON EVERY MODEL AND YEAR. TOOK 2005 PT CONVERTIBLE FOR OIL CHANGE, MECHANIC INFORMED ME I WAS VERY LOW ON POWER STEERING FLUID, HE REFILLED IT. GRADUALLY BEGAN NOTICING WHINING/GROANING SOUND WHEN TURNING, THE TIGHTER THE TURN THE WORSE THE SOUND. SOUND INCREASINGLY BECAME MORE FREQUENT. RETURNED TO MECHANIC (A DIFFERENT ONE) AND HE SAID I WAS OUT OF STEERING FLUID. I INFORMED HIM THAT IT HAD BEEN FILLED ABOUT A MONTH AGO. GOING FROM MEMORY HERE...HE CHECKED FOR LEAK AND FOUND NONE, AND REFILLED. PROBLEM CONTINUED TO INCREASE UNTIL THE POWER STEERING STOPPED COMPLETELY AND I COULD BARELY TURN THE CAR. RETURNED TO PREVIOUS MECHANIC TO FIND THAT THE HOSE HAD POPPED OFF. HE REATTACHED. A COUPLE MONTHS LATER WHEN TURNING LEFT I HEARD AN ODD SOUND, CAN'T REALLY DESCRIBE. WITHIN A WEEK THE GROANING WAS BACK, HOSE HAD POPPED OFF AGAIN, AND FLUID RAN OUT IN A MATTER OF DAYS. THE MECHANIC AGAIN REATTACHED AND SAID SOMETHING ABOUT THE WAY THE EQUIPMENT IS ARRANGED UNDER THE HOOD, CAUSES SOMETHING TO RUB AGAINST THE POWER STEERING HOSE, CAUSING IT TO DETACH. THIS ORDEAL WAS REPEATED 3 TIMES WITHIN ABOUT A YEAR. I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO PIN DOWN THE TYPE OF MOVEMENT THAT CAUSED THE HOSE TO COME OFF...TURNING LEFT WHILE AT AN INCLINE OR DECLINE. THROUGH-OUT ALL THIS (I AM NOT GOOD WITH CARS AND AM A GIRL) I ENDED UP NEEDING TO REPLACE THE STEERING COLUMN. I WISH I HAD THOUGHT TO CHECK INTO THIS SOONER AS I SEE THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED PROBLEM. *TR
AT 23,021 MILES MY 2005 PT CRUISER HAD THE LOWER LEFT CONTROL ARM REPLACED (8/28/2007). SEVEN MONTHS LATER, I EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE CAR (CLUNKING NOISE WHEN GOING OVER BUMPS). I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE OTHER LOWER CONTROL ARM ON 3/25/08 AT 27834 MILES. I HAD THE FRONT BRAKES REPLACED AT 38,033 MILES AND AT 60,349 MILES. I HAVE READ MANY COMPLAINTS IN ONLINE FORUMS FROM PEOPLE WITH SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH THIS MODEL AND BRAKE WEAR HAS BEEN REPORTED DUE TO FRONT WHEEL BEARING ISSUES. MY CAR IS NOW AT 62,570 AND I AM HAVING THE SAME CLUNKING NOISE IN THE FRONT WHEN HITTING A BUMP ALONG WITH A LOUD NOISE UPON BRAKING AT HIGH SPEEDS. I AM HIGHLY CONCERNED ABOUT MY SAFETY IN THIS VEHICLE NOW. MANY PEOPLE HAVE REPORTED THE SAME ISSUE. THIS IS A SAFETY AND LIFE THREATENING ISSUE AND CHRYSLER NEES TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS VEHICLE. I HAVE BEEN HAVING TROUBLE WITH MY P.T. CRUISER WITH PROBLEM STARTING. IT HAS GONE ON FOR MANY YEARS. I WAS LOOKING FOR INFORMATION ON ANY RECALLS. IT WAS SAID IT WAS THE STARTER, BUT THE PROBLEM CONTINUED SPORADICALLY. I STILL DO NOT KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. THE CAR WONT START BUT THERE IS CONNECTION WITH THE BATTERY. MY 2005 PT CRUISER IS EQUIPPED WITH ANTI-LOCK BRAKES AND A TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM. DURING A RECENT SNOW STORM THE INDICATOR LIGHTS FOR BOTH OF THESE SYSTMES ILLUMINATED. I HAVE JUST RETURNED FROM MY LOCAL CHRYSLER DEALER, WHO HAS INFORMED THAT THE LIGHTS CAME ON BECAUSE THESE SYSTEMS WERE NOT FUNCTIONING. THE REASON FOR THIS, THEY BELIEVE, IS THAT SNOW HAD COLLECTED IN THE WHEELS. AS I UNDERSTAND IT, THEIR POSISTION IS THAT THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES AND TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEMS PROVIDED ON THIS CAR WILL FUNCTION EXCEPT DURING A SNOW STORM WITH WET, STICK, SLIPPERY SNOW.
