I AM SO UNHAPPY WITH THIS CAR, IT HAS GIVEN ME NOTHING BUT HEADACHES. I HAVE HAD FRONT END BEARING PROBLEMS TO ELECTRICAL, BUT THE WORST PROBLEM IS THE ONE I HAVE RIGHT NOW. MY CAR IS AT THE DEALERSHIP AS WE SPEAK, AND I AM BEING TOLD THAT CHRYSLER MAY NOT COVER THIS PROBLEM. THE CAR HAS VARIOUS LEAKS,THE OIL HAS LEAKED INTO THE SPARK PLUGS, AND OTHER AREAS THAT THEY ARE NOT CERTAIN OFF, THEY SUGGESTED ONE IS COMING FROM THE HEAD GASKET A PART OF THE ENGINE. THE PROBLEMS STARTED ABOUT SIX MONTHS AGO, FIRST IT WANTED TO STOP ON ME AT EVERY LIGHT, SECOND THE ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON, THIRD THE OIL LIGHT. I WOULD TAKE IT TO MECHANICS AND THEY COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM, IT WAS GETTING WORSE AND I WOULD REPLACE PARTS THAT WERE GOING BAD, BUT STILL THE PROBLEM WAS THERE. WHEN I WENT TO CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP THEY TOLD ME WE CAN'T SEE THE PROBLEM, BUT I TOLD THEM THAT I WOULD NOT LEAVE UNTIL THEY FOUND THE PROBLEM. I AM WAITING THE STATUS ON THIS MATTER FROM CHRYSLER EXTENDED WARRANTY. I SUGGEST YOU RECALL THIS CAR, IT HAS SOME SERIOUS ISSUES RELATING TO THE ENGINE, MY PERSPECTIVE OF THIS VEHICLE IS THE LIFE SPAN LASTS 70,000,MILE BECAUSE THE PROBLEMS.GET WORSE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH WITH ALL THE WINDOWS CLOSED, THE REAR PASSENGER QUARTER SIDE WINDOW SUDDENLY EXPLODED. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER AND THEY ADVISED HIM THAT THE WINDOW NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO THE SEALANT NOT HOLDING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 28,000.
THE PT CRUISER 2005 TURBO WAS PURCHASED NEW AND CURRENTLY HAS 68,296 MILES. THE VEHICLE HAS SHUT OFF ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS WHILE WE WERE DRIVING. WE IMMEDIATELY CONTACTED CERRITOS DODGE CHRYSLER JEEP (CERRITOS, CA) AND GLEN E. THOMAS (SIGNAL HILL,CA} AND BOTH SERVICED VEHICLE. NEITHER DEALERS FIXED THE PROBLEM.THE LAST TIME WE PAID A SERVICE TECHNICIAN ALMOST $100 TO JUST RIDE AROUND WITH US TO SEE IF VEHICLE WOULD STOP. AGAIN NOTHING WAS DONE. AFTER FINALLY BRINGING THE CAR BACK 6 TIMES FOR THE SAME PROBLEM, WITHIN A 12 WEEK PERIOD, THEY TOLD US TO CONTACT THE CORPORATE DIVISION AT CHRYSLER BECAUSE THEY WOULD NOT SERVICE OUR VEHICLE. THE MOST RECENT OCCURRENCE WAS IN SEPTEMBER 2011( WHICH PUT OTHERS LIFE IN DANGER) WE WERE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT 60 MILES/HR. THE CAR JUST SHUT OFF, AGAIN WITHOUT ANY WARNING. WE ARE AFRAID TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE ON A REGULAR BASIS, FOR FEAR OF RISKING THE LIVES OF OTHERS AND OURSELVES. WE ARE CURRENTLY SEEKING A RECALL BECAUSE WE KNOW OF OTHER OWNERS WHO HAS EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH THE ENGINE STALLED AND RESTARTED. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER SEVEN TIMES BUT THE TECHNICIANS WERE UNABLE TO DETECT A TROUBLE CODE DURING THE DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND THEY STATED THE FAILURE WAS RELATED TO THE POWER TRAIN WIRING HARNESS. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 63,278.
WE OWN A 2005 PT CRUISER CONVERTIBLE AND HAVE HAD PROBLEMS FOR THE PAST YEAR WITH THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH LOCATED ON THE STEERING COLUMN. THE FOG LIGHTS COME ON BY THEMSELVES AND WILL DRAIN THE BATTERY DEAD. THERE MUST BE A SHORT IN THE STEERING COLUMN WHICH IS CAUSING THIS PROBLEM. WE TURN OUR LEFT BLINKER ON BEFORE WE SHUT OFF THE IGNITION AND THIS SEEMS TO KEEP THE FOG LIGHTS OFF. WITH THIS BEING A SHORT, IT COULD RESULT IN A FIRE WHICH MAY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT WHILE DRIVING - RESULTING IN POSSIBLE DEATH. MY EXPECTATIONS ARE HIGH FOR THE SERVICE THAT THE NHTSA PERFORMS AND I ANTICIPATE THEIR ACTION ON THIS WELL KNOWN ISSUE TO BE COMING SOON. *TR
2005 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER, MANUAL TRANS, NATURALLY ASPIRATED - ARIZONA STOP LIGHT, DASH INDICATOR, ENGINE OVERHEATED, AC HIGH PRESSURE RELIEF VALVE RELEASES R134A REFRIGERANT. AC SHOP SAYS DEFECTIVE PCM, AC SYSTEM FAILURE. SHOP SAYS ONLY CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP HAVE PCM FIX. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY CAR AND IT BEGAN TO CHUG AND JERK. I THOUGHT IT WAS BAD GAS AND CALLED A FRIEND. THE NEXT MORNING OUT OF THE BLUE IT BEGAN TO SELF ACCELERATE. I TRIED TO HIT THE GAS TO SEE IF IT WAS STUCK, HIT THE CRUISE ON/OFF, APPLIED THE BRAKES - NOTHING. IT WAS GOING 60 MPH BY ITSELF. I FLEW THRU STOP SIGNS, UNABLE TO STOP THE CAR, NOTHING WORKED. I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. I EVENTUALLY PUT IT IN NEUTRAL AND TURNED OFF THE KEY AND HAD IT TOWED. THE HARD PLASTIC COVER THAT COVERS THE ACCELERATOR HAD BROKEN OFF AND LODGED ITSELF ON TOP OF THE ACCELERATOR, MAKING THE CAR ACCELERATE EVEN WHEN NO GAS WAS APPLIED. *TR
NO EVENTS LEADING TO FAILURE OTHER THAN NOTICING THE SEAT HEATERS SEEMED TO PUT OFF MORE HEAT THAN OTHER COMPARABLY EQUIPPED VEHICLES. SEAT HEATER BURNED THROUGH SEAT COVER AND SEAT CUSHION FOAM INTO A PILLOW THAT HAD SLIPPED BEHIND MY DAUGHTERS BACK. IF IT HAD NOT BEEN FOR THE PILLOW, MY DAUGHTER WOULD HAVE HAD SERIOUS BURN INJURIES AS SHE WAS ASLEEP AT THE TIME OF THE MALFUNCTION. SO FAR CHRYSLER HAS DONE NOTHING TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THE OLD PARTS ARE STILL IN THE VEHICLE. CHRYSLER HAS INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND SAYS THE SEAT HEATER UNIT ITSELF MALFUNCTIONED OTHERWISE THE SYSTEM IS NORMAL. HOWEVER, THE DRIVERS SEAT ALSO REACHES TEMPERATURES THAT WILL CAUSE BURNS ALSO. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FLOOD WARNING LIGHT WOULD ILLUMINATE SPORADICALLY. THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO TURN THE VEHICLE OFF AND BACK ON FOR THE WARNING LIGHT TO DISAPPEAR. THE MANUFACTURER DENIED ANY ASSISTANCE WITH REPAIRS TO THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 32,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 36,000.
I PURCHASED A 2005 PT CRUISER IN JUNE 2008. SEVERAL MONTHS LATER I NOTICED THAT MY CAR WOULD SHAKE ONCE I TURNED ON MY AC. WHILE IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY, I TOOK IT BACK TO THE CAR DEALERSHIP AND THEY ADVISED ME THAT I NEEDED A TUNE UP. SO I HAD MY CAR SERVICED FOR A TUNE UP TO ONLY FIND OUT THAT THE PROBLEM ON PERSISTED. I TOOK THE CAR TO SEVERAL MECHANICS AND NO ONE COULD FIGURE OUT THE PROBLEM. THEY ALL SAID I NEEDED SPARK PLUGS ALTHOUGH I JUST HAD THEM REPLACED. FLASH FORWARD TO NOVEMBER 2010, ON MY WAY TO WORK OUT OF NO WHERE MY CAR STARTED PUTTING AND MY ENGINE WAS SHAKING AS IF MY CAR WAS ABOUT TO EXPLODE. AGAIN I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC AND HE SAID THE SAME THING... TUNE UP. CLEARLY THIS WAS NOT THE CASE, HOWEVER I HAD MY GASKETS CHANGED TO SEE IF THAT WAS THE ISSUE...NEGATIVE. SO I DECIDED TO GOOGLE WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS MYSELF JUST TO SEE IF I MISSED A RECALL OR IF THIS IS A PROBLEM. T O MY SURPRISE I FOUND SEVERAL FORUMS SPECIFICALLLY FOR TEH CHRYSLER PT CRUISER. TO TOP THE CAKE THEIR ISSUES WAS THE EXACT SAME ISSUES I WAS HAVING WITH MY CAR. ENGINE SHAKING, CAR PUTTING, AND THE CAR CUTTING OFF WHILE DRIVING! I CALLED CHRYSLER TO SEE IF THERE WAS A RECALL AND I WAS SO BAFFELED THAT THERE WAS NOT. THIS IS CLEARLY A SAFETY ISSUE AND I'M VERY DISSAPOINTED THAT CHRYLSER IS IGNORING THE SERIOUSNESS OF THE MATTER! THIS CAN POTENTIALLY CAUSE A FATAL ACCIDENT. HOW SCARY IS IT DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND YOUR CAR JUST STOPS OR STARTS PUTTING! I HAVE SPENT OVER $500 TRYING TO FIX THIS ISSUE AND OTHERS HAVE SPENT THOUSANDS ON CHRYSLERS BEHALF. MY CAR STILL HAS THE SAME ISSUES TODAY 8/26/2011. I CAN'T AFFORD A NEW ENGINE ESPECIALLY WHEN THIS IS A MORE THAN COMMON ISSUE. PLEASE GOOGLE "PT CRUISER ENGINE SHAKING PROBLEMS" AND SEE THE MANY BLOGS AND COMPLAINTS. EACH BLOG HAS THE SAME ISSUES LISTED, AND I KNOW THIS HAS BEEN BROUGHT TO CHRYSLER'S ATTENTION BUT THEY CHOOSE TO IGNORE IT. FYI.. IT ONLY TOOK TOYOTA 11 COMPLAINTS FOR THEM TO RECALL THEIR VEHICALS. *TT
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH SHE CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE PASSENGER SUSTAINED HEAD INJURIES. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CALLED AND STATED THAT A REPRESENTATIVE WOULD CONTACT HER WITHIN 24 HOURS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.

TO DATE, CHRYSLER DEALERSHIPS HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO DIAGNOSE AND CONSEQUENTLY FIX A RECURRING STALLING PROBLEM WITH THE ABOVE REFERENCED VEHICLE; A PROBLEM THAT FIRST OCCURRED IN OCTOBER OF 2010. THE MCKINNEY DEALERSHIP IN EASLEY, SC FIRST ATTEMPTED A FIX, THEN THE BIG O DEALERSHIP IN GREENVILLE, SC (TWICE), AND MOST RECENTLY THE BENSON DEALERSHIP IN GREER, SC. OVERALL, THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN OUT OF SERVICE 3 WEEKS AND 2 DAYS WHILE AT THESE DEALERSHIPS. MCKINNEY'S ATTEMPT OCCURRED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS UNDER THE CHRYSLER EXTENDED WARRANTY. BIG O AND BENSON'S ATTEMPTS HAVE BEEN MADE AFTER THE EXPIRATION OF THE WARRANTY (FROM TIME, NOT MILEAGE), AS A FOLLOW UP TO A PRE-EXISTING CONDITION. MEANWHILE, BETWEEN ATTEMPTED FIXES THE VEHICLE POSES A SAFETY HAZARD, ACTUALLY PUTTING CHRYSLER AT A LIABILITY RISK. A STALLING VEHICLE IN HEAVY, FAST MOVING TRAFFIC HAS A HIGH POTENTIAL OF CREATING AN ACCIDENT, AN INJURY, OR EVEN A DEATH. IN REALITY A VERY SERIOUS ACCIDENT ALMOST OCCURRED RECENTLY ON INTERSTATE 26 IN HENDERSONVILLE, NC AS A TRACTOR TRAILER WAS FOLLOWING THE VEHICLE WHEN IT WENT INTO A STALL. FORTUNATELY, THE SHOULDER OF THE HIGHWAY GAVE AN ESCAPE ROUTE FROM BEING RUN DOWN. WIDE SHOULDERS ARE NOT ALWAYS AVAILABLE FOR ESCAPE. ADDITIONALLY, WITHIN THE TIME FRAME BEGINNING IN 2010, WE HAVE NOT BEEN OFFERED AN OPPORTUNITY TO SPEAK WITH A CHRYSLER AREA REPRESENTATIVE AND HAVE NOT HAD THE BEST CO-OPERATION FROM THE CHRYSLER CASE MANAGERS IN AUBURN HILL, MI. WITHOUT CHRYSLER OFFERING THE OPTIONS OF FIXING , TRADING OR BUYING BACK THE VEHICLE, WE MUST EXERCISE OTHER OPTIONS AVAILABLE TO US. FIRST OCCURRENCE THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL BEARING FAILED, 38,00 MILES. SECOND OCCURRENCE THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL BEARING FAILED AT 50,706. BOTH TIMES WE HAD IT REPLACED. NEITHER WHEEL CAME OFF BUT THE MECHANIC'S SAID THE RIGHT FRONT WAS CLOSE. NO NOISE COMING ON THE RIGHT FRONT BUT THE LEFT FRONT DID AND WE TOOK IT IN. WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW TO PREVENT THIS SINCE THE OCCURRENCE WERE WITHIN ONE YEAR OF EACH OTHER AND THEY ARE SEALED BEARINGS. SHOULD WE HAVE THEM REPACKED ANNUALLY OR WHAT. *TR
MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING A 2005 PT CRUISER CONVERTIBLE AND WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONTAL CRASH AT FREEWAY SPEED. SHE WAS RESTRAINED BY HER SEATBELT, YET HER AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY. I AM THE OWNER OF THE CAR AND I AM VERY CONCERNED SINCE SHE WAS INJURED AND THE CAR TOTALED AND YET NO AIRBAG. I AM CONCERNED AS TO WHY THE BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. *TR
MY '05 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER (THAT I BOUGHT 3 MONTHS AGO!) HAS STARTED TO NOT START ON ME. I WILL COME OUT FROM WORK, AND IT IS COMPLETELY DEAD. BATTERY COMPLETELY DRAINED. I GET A JUMP, AND IT WILL RUN, BUT IS THEN SLUGGISH AT FIRST. THIS HAS HAPPENED NOW AT LEAST 3 X A WEEK FOR A MONTH. I HAVE REPLACED THE BATTERY, AND WAS TOLD BY CHRYSLER THAT IT IS THE ALTERNATOR, BUT I WENT TO TWO OTHER MECHANICS FOR CONFIRMATION AND BOTH TOLD ME IT IS NOT THE ALTERNATOR. THIS MEANS THE DEALERSHIP I WAS AT PRETTY MUCH HAD NO CLUE, OR DIDN'T WANT TO ADMIT THE ISSUE. I HAVE SINCE LOOKED AROUND, AND I SEE ON BLOGS THAT THIS IS A RECURRING ISSUE FOR MANY OTHER PT CRUISER OWNERS. I JUST WANT MINE FIXED. *TR
I HAVE OWNED A 2005 PT CRUISER FOR ONLY TWO MONTHS AND IT HAS ONLY 53,000 MILES ON IT. TODAY I FOUND OUT THAT BOTH THE FRONT WHEEL BEARING HAVE TO BE REPLACED AND WILL COST 565.00. FROM WHAT I AM READING,THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM AND MAYBE SHOULD BE MADE A RECALL!! THIS COULD BE VERY DANGEROUS IF NOT FOUND AND CORRECTED. ONE OF MINE WASN'T EVEN MAKING ANY NOISE BUT THERE WAS QUITE A BIT OF PLAY IN THE TIRE. VERY DANGEROUS!
THUMPING NOISE FOLLOWED BY LOSS OF BRAKES IN A SHORT DISTANCE (30 MILES) WHEEL BEARING FAILURE WHICH DAMAGED AXEL AND DESTROYED BRAKES' BRAKES AND AXEL AND BEARING REPLACED ON DRIVERS SIDE - NOW PASSENGER SIDE IS DEFECTIVE TOO AND NEEDS REPLACEMENT - CAR HAS ONLY 30K MILES- BEARINGS ARE SEALED TYPE,CANNOT BE RELUBED, CAR IS 2005 CHRYSLER P T CRUISER CONVERTIBLE. *TR
I OWN A 2005 PT CRUISER; I HAVE 134,000 MILES ON THE CAR, AND KEEP IT SERVICED REGULARLY. I HAVE HAD NUMEROUS ISSUES WITH SAFETY FACTORS CONCERNING THIS VEHICLE SINCE OCTOBER 2009. DECEMBER 2009 MY TIMING BELT WENT OUT ON INTERSTATE. I LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AS THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING 70 MPH. I HAD IT REPAIRED BY A CERTIFIED MECHANIC, WHICH INCLUDED A NEW WATER PUMP. I CONTINUED TO HAVE OVERHEATING ISSUES, AND CONTINUED TO HAVE DIAGNOSTICS AND NOTHING COULD BE IDENTIFIED AS THE PROBLEM. FEBRUARY 2010: I HAD TO HAVE VALVES SEALS REPAIRED DUE TO THEM LEAKING OIL ONTO THE ENGINE WHICH WAS A POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD. THIS WAS DONE BY A CERTIFIED MECHANIC. APRIL 2010: I CONTINUED TO HAVE OVERHEATING ISSUES. I WAS ALSO NOW HAVING ELECTRICAL ISSUES WHERE MY TAILLIGHTS WERE CONTINUOUSLY BLOWING THE BULBS COMPLETELY OUT, TO WHERE THE BULBS WOULD BE BROKEN AND I WOULD HAVE NO LIGHTS AT ALL ON THE BACK OF MY VEHICLE, THERE WERE TIMES THIS WOULD OCCUR AT NIGHT WHICH WAS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. MAY 2010: I BROUGHT MY VEHICLE BACK TO CHRYSLER DEALER; AGAIN NOTHING COULD BE RESOLVED. JUNE 2010: BROUGHT THE CAR BACK FOR DIAGNOSTICS. THE DEALER KEPT THE VEHICLE ALL DAY. THE DEALER CONCLUDED THAT THE COOLER SENSOR AND SENSOR PLUG NEEDED REPLACED, AND TAIL LIGHT RECEPTORS WERE CHANGED OUT. JUNE 2010: ALTERNATOR WENT OUT AND IT WAS REPLACED, AND ALSO INSTALLED A NEW BATTERY. WHEN TRAVELING I SET MY CRUISE CONTROL ON 55. THE CRUISE CONTROL TOOK OVER MY ACCELERATION AND IN NO MY VEHICLE ACCELERATED TO 115+ MPH, I COULD NOT TURN OFF THE CRUISE CONTROL, THE BRAKES FAILED TO WORK, THE KEY WOULD NOT TURN OFF. I FINALLY PULLED THE E-BRAKE TO SLOW THE CAR, AND HAD TO PUT THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL, THEN INTO PARK. IT WAS NOT UNTIL I MANAGED TO GET THE CAR INTO PARK THAT THE VEHICLE STOPPED ACCELERATING BY ITSELF. I TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE. I FEEL THESE ISSUES NEED TO BE ADDRESSED. THESE SAFETY ISSUES ARE OF A SERIOUS NATURE. YOUR TIME IN LOOKING INTO THIS. *TR
MY 2005 PT CRUSIER BOUGHT USED WITH 27000 MILES ON SPEEDOMETER IN JUNE 2009. RECENTLY THE MOTOR STUBBLES AND SHAKES LIKE IT WANTS TO STALL. I HAVE EVEN HAD IT JUST QUIT IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC CAUSING TRAFFIC TO AVOID ME BY NEAR MISS. I SEE THAT OTHERS HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM ISN'T THIS A SAFETY ISSUE WARRANTING A RECALL. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 TOURING EDITION PT CRUISER AND IT HAS BEEN A HEADACHE FOR THE LAST 21 MONTHS. IN SPRING 2009, AFTER HAVING THE CAR ONLY 2 YEARS, IT STARTING LEAKING OIL SO I TOOK INTO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY SAID THE OIL PAN GASKET WAS LOOSE. THEY FIXED IT IN A DAY AND IT RAN FINE, THEN A FEW MONTHS LATER, IN AUGUST, IT STARTED LEAKING AGAIN. I TOOK IT TO A REPAIR SHOP FOR THE BRAKES AND THE MECHANIC SAID HE'D NEVER SEEN ROTORS WEAR THAT FAST BEFORE. IT RAN PRETTY GOOD UNTIL SEPTEMBER 2009 WHEN IT STARTED LEAKING OIL AGAIN, TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN THIS TIME THEY SAID THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE SHORT BLOCK, GASKETS FOR THE UPPER AND LOWER ENGINE, TIMING BELT COVER, CRANKSHAFT SPROCKET, AND ALL THE FLUIDS IN THE CAR. IN 2006 I PURCHASED A 2005 PT CRUISER WITH 12000 MILES, IT RAN GREAT UNTIL MAY,2009 WITH APPROX. 28000 MILES, WHEN IT STARTED SPITTERING AND SPUTTERING UPON ACCELERATION AND WOULD NOT EXCEED A SPEED OF 25 FOR 15 TO 25 SECONDS, SOMETIMES LONGER. I FOUND THIS OUT ON A 275 MILE ROUND TRIP UP US HWY 40 AFTER STOPPING TO GET GAS. UPON REENTRY TO HWY 40 WITH CARS TRAVELING 70-85 MPH, MY CAR JUST WOULD NOT GO. I FELT MY LIFE AS WELL AS MY HUSBANDS WAS IN GRAVE DANGER. I IMMEDIATELY PUT MY FLASHERS ON AND STAYED ON THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD UNTIL IT RETURNED TO NORMAL SPEED. THEN WHILE GOING UP HILLS, OR STOPPED FOR RED LIGHTS, STOP SIGN OR SLOWING DOWN TO YIELD, IT WOULD AGAIN, SPITTER & SPUTT AND BACKFIRE. UPON MY ARRIVAL BACK HOME I TOOK IT TO MY LOCAL CHRYSLER DEALER AND WAS TOLD IT WAS IN NEED OF A TUNE UP (ATL ESS THAN 20000 MILES), AND I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER IT WAS NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY, WHICH I BELIEVED WAS A UNLIMITED 5 YR/50,000 MILES, COSTING IN EXCESS OF $300.00/WHICH I DID NOT AND DO NOT HAVE THE FUNDS TO GET REPAIRED., BUT STILL FEEL THIS IS A DANGER FACTOR FOR ANYONE RIDING IN IT. (WHICH I SELDOM HAVE ANYONE WITH ME EXCEPT MY HUSBAND OCCASIONALLY.) THE PT CRUISER IS STILL THE SAME EVEN THOUGH I HAVE ADDED GAS TREATMENTS AND FUEL INJECTOR CLEANERS TRYING TO RESOLVE THIS SEVERE, AND POTENTIALLY DEADLY PROBLEM. THE CAR TO DATE ONLY HAS A LITTLE OVER 35000 MILES AND IS STILL ACTING UP, AND THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT CONTINUES TO STAY ON. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO A TRUSTED LOCAL MECHANIC WHO INFORMED ME THAT IT IS A TUNE UP PROBLEM OR THE FUEL INJECTORS, AND THAT IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED UNDER WARRANTY THAT WAS STILL IN EFFECT AT THE TIME. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 PT CRUISER. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE ELEVATED UP AND DOWN. THE CONTACT STOPPED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT THE DRIVER SIDE TIRE WAS SEPARATED FROM THE WHEEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO LOCATED THE FAILURE DUE TO THE WHEEL HUB STEAL BAND SPEARED CAUSING THE TIRE TO FAIL. THE DEALER REPLACED THE WHEEL HUB BAND AND TIRE. ON OCTOBER 31, 2010 THE RIGHT WHEEL HUB STEEL BAND, BOLTS, AND BEARING SEPARATED CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE TIRE, FRONT AND REAR FENDER. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO REPLACED THE RIGHT WHEEL HUB, STEAL BAND, BOLTS, BEARING AND TIRE. THE MANUFACTURER WILL BE CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 22,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 40,000.
VEHICLE WOULD NOT START, THIS HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES IN THE PAST. I HAVE REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP RELAY AND THIS HAS CORRECTED THE PROBLEM. IN THE PAST THE VEHICLE DID START WITH A JUMP OR BY CLEANING THE POSITIVE BATTERY TERMINAL. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER. THE CONTACT WAS HAVING NEW TIRES INSTALLED ON HER VEHICLE WHEN ONE OF THE LUG NUTS SUDDENLY CAME OFF THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE TIRE. THE OTHER THREE LUG NUTS WERE FOUND TO BE EXTREMELY LOOSE. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THIS WAS A VERY COMMON ISSUE WITH THE PT CRUISERS AND RECOMMENDED NOT TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE BECAUSE A TIRE COULD FALL OFF AT ANY MOMENT. THE CONTACT BELIEVES THAT A RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED SINCE THIS WAS A COMMON FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 75,000.

I OWN A 2005 PT CRUISER CONVERTIBLE. I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS FOR THE PAST YEAR WITH THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH LOCATED ON THE STEERING COLUMN. THE FOG LIGHTS WILL NOT TURN ON AS THE SWITCH IS BROKEN AND SOMETIMES THERE IS VISIBLE SMOKE COMING OUT OF THE COLUMN FOLLOWED BY THE STENCH OF BURNING RUBBER. I RESEARCHED AND FOUND OUT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS MAKE AND MODEL OF CAR. THE PLASTIC USED FOR THE WINDSHIELD WASHER NOZZLES ON THE CHRYSLER PT CRUISER GT MODEL IS NOT CORRECT FOR THE APPLICATION, IN THAT THE EXTRA HEAT UNDER THE HOOD FROM THE TURBO CHARGER CAUSES THE PLASTIC TO BECOME WEAK AND CRUMBLE, WHICH RESULTS IN WINDSHIELD WASHER FLUID LEAKING DOWN ON TOP OF AN ELECTRICAL PANEL LOCATED ON THE FIREWALL OF THE DRIVERS SIDE OF THE VEHICLE, WHICH ULTIMATELY RESULTS IN A SAFETY HAZARD. *TR
