There are 17 owner-reported air bags & restraints complaints for the 2006 Chrysler Sebringin NHTSA's database. These are unverified consumer reports and may not reflect confirmed defects.
My passenger airbag spontaneously deployed without an impact when it was parked. This shattered the windshield and expelled plastic dashboard pieces and glass everywhere. My daughter and I had just exited the car so there were no injuries. Had we not stopped this may have deployed on the road or if my passenger had waited in the car caused serious injuries. I contacted Chrystler to report this safety issue and they said this is no longer their responsibility due to my cars age and environmental factors. This happened 7/9/25 and the damages and airbag system is available to inspect. I have witnesses to seeing the deployment without impact and awaiting video footage from the business. No warning lights on the dashboard occurred. This is a very well maintained vehicle with very low miles.
This is part of complaint 11630942. The incident on Nov 25, 2024. These are two separate complaints which occurred in the same crash that resulted in serious injuries. In the event of the crash the seatbelt failed to restrain me. Allowing my head to collide into the windshield and my chest to forcefully hit the steering wheel. I have serious injuries to many body parts as result of this incident. The vehicle is available for inspection and I have photos and medical reports available upon request.
At the time of collision the airbags did not deploy correctly. The airbag seems to have burst at the seams and projectlies of debris and chemicals came from the air bag instead. I hit my head on the windshield and hit my chest on steering wheel. I was burned on my arms, hands and ribs/chest. I have pulmonary and neurological injury. as well as changes to my sight and hearing. My car filled with thick "smoke" that was hot and made us choke and gasp for air. We breathed in these chemicals. My two disabled children were also injured by the chemicals.
The contact owned a 2006 Chrysler Sebring. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact vehicle was involved in a crash. The contact rear-ended the vehicle that was in front of the contact vehicle. The contact's vehicle was damaged to the front driver's side of the vehicle. In addition, the air bags were deployed. The contact stated that the vehicle had a burning odor and lots of smoke. The Police and paramedics were at the crash scene. A Police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a local tow yard. The vehicle was condemned to total loss by the insurance company. The contact's two minor children were occupants in the vehicle at the time of the crash. The contact was transported to the local hospital. The contact sustained burns to both left and right forearms, her right thumb, nerve damage to her left forearm, and bruised ribs. In addition, the chemical from the air bags entered the contact's nose and the contact had a continuous cough. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 96,000.
Drivers side seat belt Does Not Retract. Engine Piston Rod Bearings are defective heat up melt and may cause an Engine Fire like in Hyundai Rod Bearing Recall. Common on Chrysler V6 Engine. May cause Blown engine, snapped Piston Rods, Heat and Engine Fire.
FRONT DRIVER SEAT BELT DOES NOT RETRACT. VERY DANGEROUS. *TR
AIRBAG LIGHT CONTINUES TO GO ON AND OFF PERIODICALLY. WHICH MEANS IT IS ACTIVATED AND DE-ACTIVATED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHRYSLER SEBRING. WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE HORN SOUNDED ON ITS OWN INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE CLOCK SPRING, HORN PAD, AND DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,975.
HORN OR ALARM RANDOMLY GOES OFF. IMPOSSIBLE TO STOP, IT DOES SO EVENTUALLY ON ITS OWN. THIS IS ON ENTRY TO THE CAR, WHETHER BY KEY, KEY FOB, OR EVEN OPENING TRUNK..AND WHEN DRIVING AT SPEED RANDOMLY. IS THIS NOT A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE? *TR DID A DEALER CHECK AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING. NO RECALLS, NO PROBLEMS FROM CHRYSLER...HARD TO BELIEVE SINCE I SEE MANY COMPLAINTS ONLINE THAT POINT TO A HORN PAD ASSEMBLY PROBLEM THAT COSTS $1000 TO FIX. THIS IS A LOW MILEAGE LOW USED CAR, I AM THE SECOND OWNER, THE FIRST BEING MY FATHER. NOT A LOT OF HORN BLOWING. TOOK IN AGAIN TO DEALER, CALLED CHRYSLER, NO INFO FROM EITHER. RETURNED TO THE DEALER WITH MECHANIC AND REPLICATED THE PROBLEM, AND HE FINALLY AGREED IT MIGHT BE THE HORN ASSEMBLY, AND REMOVED THE HORN FUSE. APPARENTLY THERE IS A FOIL THAT GETS WORN THROUGH CAUSING A SHORT ACTIVATING THE HORN, AND THE ONLY WAY TO FIX IS A REASSEMBLY. THIS IS NOT A FIX, THIS IS A FAULTY MANUFACTURING ISSUE (MATERIALS SKIMPING TO CUT CORNERS). THIS IS NOT A WAY TO BE A LONG TIME MANUFACTURER AND MAINTAIN THE QUALITY EXPECTED OF AMERICAN CARS. ITS AWFUL AND UNSAFE. THEY ALSO LED THE MECHANIC AROUND IN CIRCLES TESTING COMPUTERS AND ALL SORTS OF THINGS WHEN 5 MIN ON THE INTERNET DIRECTED ME TO THE PROBLEM AND AFTER A QUICK TEST PROVED TRUE. SUCH A WASTE OF TIME. *TR
THE SEBRING HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF IT. LEFT FRONT OF SEBRING HITTING THE RIGHT REAR BUMPER OF CAR IN FRONT OF IT. IMMEDIATELY STOPPING THE SEBRING AND THEN HAVING IT ROLL BACKWARDS INTO A DITCH. TOTALLY THE SEBRING. NO AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. INJURIES SUSTAINED BECAUSE OF AIRBAGS NOT DEPLOYING. WEATHER OUTSIDE WAS BELOW ZERO. *TR
WELL IT FIRST HAPPENED AT NIGHT MY WIFE THOUGHT SOMEONE WAS BREAKING INTO THE CAR I NEVER CAUGHT WHAT WAS GOING ON UNTIL THE FOURTH TIME I FINALLY HERD IT IT WAS MY HORN GOING OFF FOR 60 SECONDS OR MORE AND I COULD NOT GET IT STOP IT WOULD GO OFF AT NIGHT AROUND 12 OR 2 OR 3,4 IN MORNING THEN IT EVENTUALLY IT GOT WORSE STARTED GOING OFF AT ALL TIMES THEN THE HORN WAS NOT USABLE BUT WOULD STILL GO OFF WHEN IT CHOSE TO. THEN IT STARTED TO GO OFF WHEN I WAS DRIVING. I STOPPED DRIVING THE CAR AND HAVE SINCE UNHOOKED THE BATTERY. THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS ONLINE OF PEOPLE WITH SAME ISSUE RECENTLY I HOOKED THE BATTERY UP TO SEE IF MAYBE IT WAS OK WRONG IT BLARED RIGHT AWAY AND SO I UNHOOKED THE BATTERY AGAIN. *TR
COULD NOT USE MY HORN AND AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY DURING AN ACCIDENT. THE AIRBAG AND HORN DO NOT WORK BECAUSE THE FUSE HAD TO BE TAKEN OUT THE FUSE RUNS THESE FUNCTIONS. THE FUSE WAS TAKEN OUT BECAUSE THE HORN DOES NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY WHICH ALSO MEANS THE AIRBAG HAS A FIFTY, FIFTY CHANCE OF WORKING WITH THE FUSE IN. BECAUSE NO INVESTIGATION HAS BEEN DONE ON THIS FUNCTION EVERYONE ON THE ROAD IS AT RISK. SAFETY IS AN ISSUE AND THIS NEEDS TO HAVE A RECALL. STOP MAKING AMERICANS PAY FOR LEMONS!!! *TR
SEVERAL TIMES OVER THE LAST FEW MONTH THE HORN JUST RANDOMLY GOES OFF IN A LONG BLAST. IT WILL CONTINUE UNTIL YOU BEAT AND BANG ON THE STEERING WHEEL AND COLUMN. *TR
2006 CHRYSLER SEBRING HORN BLOW INTERMITTENTLY. I SEE ON THE INTERNET THAT OTHERS HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM AND BECAUSE IT IS LOCATED WITH THE AIRBAG MAY BE A SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
OVER THE COURSE OF A YEAR THE HORN WOULD SOUND AT ANY TIME ON ITS OWN, WOULD NOT STOP WITHOUT EXTREME FORCE ON THE BUTTON; DEALERSHIP STATES A FULL AIRBAG ASSEMBLY HAS TO BE PURCHASED AT A COST OF OVER $600.00, BECAUSE THE HORN BUTTON IS ATTACHED TO THE AIRBAG. *TR
45,000 MILES ON MY 2006 SEBRING AND THE HORN STARTS BLOWING FOR NO REASON ON JANUARY 1, 2009. THE HORN HAS BLOWN SITTING IN GARAGE, PARKING LOT, DRIVEWAY & WHILE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC. I WOULD SAY IT WAS DOING IT ABOUT EVERY OTHER DAY, SOMETIMES TWICE A DAY. IT WILL NOT SHUT OFF, MUST KEEP HITTING & POUNDING ON STEERING PAD TO GET IT TO STOP. FINALLY HAD TO DISCONNECT THE HORN. I DIDN'T WANT TO GET STUCK SOMEWHERE WITH A DEAD BATTERY OR WORSE, GET IN AN ACCIDENT TRYING TO GET THAT HORN TO SHUT OFF. SO NOW I'M DRIVING WITHOUT A HORN, ALSO NOT SAFE. I CAN STILL HEAR A CLICKING SOUND IN THE STEERING PAD WHILE DRIVING, JUST LIKE I HEARD WHEN FIGHTING TO GET THE HORN TO STOP. I HAVE CONTACTED MY LOCAL DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT TO SEE IT THIS IS COVERED UNDER MY WARRANTY BUT OF COURSE THEY WON'T TELL ME THAT WITHOUT RUNNING A $120 DIAGNOSTIC, I TOLD THEM I WILL NOT PAY FOR DIAGNOSTICS BECAUSE ALL THEY NEED TO DO IS CONTACT CHRYSLER TO FIND OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM IT. CHECK THE INTERNET, MINE IS NOT THE ONLY SEBRING WITH THIS PROBLEM. THE OTHER PROBLEM WITH THIS IS THAT THE AIRBAG IS INTERTWINED WITH THE HORN PROBLEM AND SO FIXING THIS PROBLEM RUNS IN THE AREA OF $1,000.00. *TR
DT: THE CONSUMER STATED SHE RAN OFF THE ROAD AND CRASHED INTO DITCH. UPON IMPACT, THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED FACIAL CUTS AND BRUISING, A FRACTURED FOOT, AND TEETH CAME OUT. THIS WAS A RENTAL VEHICLE. A POLICE REPORT WAS TAKEN.*AK UPDATED 01/04/06. *JB
