2004 CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY VAN REAR PASSENGER WINDOW FELL OUT WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH ON HIGHWAY. *AK
A LOUD SQUEAKING NOISE WAS HEARD COMING FROM THE FRONT. WHILE DRIVING AND TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL CONSUMER NOTICED THAT A LIQUID WAS LEAKING FROM UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE AND HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE POWER STEERING PUMP WAS LEAKING FLUID, AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.*AK
1. CRUISE CONTROL WILL NOT RELEASE WHEN APPLYING BRAKES WHILE ACCELERATING. 2. NO DAMAGE AS OF YET BUT ALMOST SLAMMED INTO GUARD RAILS THAT WAS LOCATED AT A DROP OFF OF ABOUT 1700 FT. 3. VEHICLE WAS LOOKED AT BY CHRYSLER AND WAS NOT REPAIRED. FAULT WAS DUPLICATED WITH THE TECH IN THE CAR. CHRYSLER ENGINEERING DEPT TOLD THE TECH THAT THEY KNOW THERE IS A FAULT WITH THE SYSTEM BUT THE POSSIBILITY OF THE FAULT HAPPENING IS SO LOW THAT THEY WERE NOT TO CONCERNED ABOUT IT. THEIR SUGGESTION IS NOT TO USE THE CRUISE CONTROL WHEN THERE IS A POSSIBILITY OF VEHICLE ACCELERATION. (SAME WIRE CONTROLS DOWNSHIFT AND BRAKE CONTROL FOR CRUISE). *JB
CLICKING IN STEERING WHEEL THAT COULD BE HEARD AND FELT. DATE OF SERVICE 9-09-2004 FOR FIRST INCIDENT. SECOND INCIDENT 9-23-2004 REPAIRED PER TECH BULLETIN. THIRD INCIDENT 9-29-04 TAKEN IN AGAIN AS STEERING NOT REPAIRED STILL CLICKING AND HARD TO STEER SERVICE CLAIMED NOTHING NOTICEABLE TO THEM. FOURTH INCIDENT 10-08-04 STEERING WHEEL FELL AWAY FROM STEERING COLUMN RENDERING THE VEHICLE INOPERABLE. 10-09-04 VEHICLE BACK TO DEALER BY WAY OF TOW TRUCK. NO INJURIES OR ACCIDENTS IN THIS COMPLAINT BUT HOPING TO STOP ONE FROM ACTUALLY HAPPENING. *NM
THE BRAKE PEDAL SHREDDED COMPLETELY OFF AND FELL ONTO THE FLOOR OF THE VEHICLE, WHEN IT WAS DEPRESSED AT LESS THAN 10 MPH. THIS RESULTED IN THE VEHICLE REAR ENDED A MOTORIST. THE MANUFACTURE HAS ADMITTED THAT THIS OCCURRED BECAUSE THE METAL PART THAT IS WELDED TO THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS BADLY WELDED AT THE FACTORY.
UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE IT CUT OFF. ONCE THE VEHICLE GETS GOING IT WILL RUN A LITTLE, THEN IT WILL CUT OFF AGAIN. CONSUMER STATED THAT UPON APPROACHING A STOP LIGHT OR ANY KIND OF STOP VEHICLE WILL CUT OFF. *AK
THE CONSUMER'S GRAND SON A 16 YEARS OLD, WAS DRIVING BETWEEN 35 TO 45 MPH, WHEN HE WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONT COLLISION WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE. BOTH AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. BUT THE DRIVER SEAT BELT FAILED. THE LATCH MECHANISM BROKE. THE DEALERSHIP AND MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. *AK THIS INCIDENT WAS A HEAD ON COLLISION. *SC *JB
WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, THE CONSUMER ADJUSTED THE SEAT AND THE SRS LIGHT APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD. THE DRIVER WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND DROVE IT TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM AT THIS TIME. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER DETAILS. *JB
WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH THE REAR CARGO WINDOW SHATTERED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONSUMER STATES THIS IS THE SECOND OCCURRENCE. *NM *SC *JB
WHILE DRIVING ON 3 SEPARATE OCCASIONS VEHICLE STALLED. THEN, VEHICLE LOST POWER, AND ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD CAME ON. DEALERSHIP REPROGRAMMED THE MAIN COMPUTER TWICE. VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT DEALERSHIP FOR THE SAME FAILURE.*AK
MECHANICAL PROBLEMS INVOLVING 2004 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY.*MR THE VEHICLES MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LAMP ILLUMINATED WHILE DRIVING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND RETURNED THE NEXT DAY. AFTER DRIVING THE VEHICLE 10 MILES THE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AGAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO THE DEALER TWICE AFTER THE INITIAL VISIT FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE ALSO BEGAN TO MALFUNCTION IN OTHER WAYS. THE SPEEDOMETER WOULD INDICATOR THE INCORRECT SPEED. THE ENGINE MADE NOISE WHEN THE GEAR SHIFT WAS MOVED. THE ENGINE VIBRATED WHEN ACCELERATING. THE BRAKES MALFUNCTIONED. THE AIR CONDITIONING FAILED INTERMITTENTLY. THE DEALER HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO PERMANENTLY RESOLVE THE PROBLEMS. *NM *JB
CHRYSLER HAS DISCONTINUED BACKLIGHTING OF DOOR LIGHT SWITCHES,POWER DOOR SWITCH,POWER MIRROR SWITCH,HEADLAMP SWITCH,AND LOW LINE WINDOW SWITCHES. DURING NIGHT TIME DRIVING, IT'S VERY HARD TO LOCATE THESE SWITCHES WITHOUT DISTRACTING YOUR DRIVING ABILITY. TOOK THE VAN INTO DEALER TO HAVE THE LIGHTS RE-ACTIVATED (THEY ARE THERE), BUT SERVICE DEPARTMENT COULDN'T ENABLE THEM. (CHRYSLER HAS A BULLETIN ON THIS, #08-018-02.*AK
PURCHASED 2004 CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY ON JAN. 2, 2004 WITH 6 MILES. TRANSMISSION LIGHT CAME ON FIRST TIME AT 5,940 MILES ON MARCH 24, 2004. GEARS STICK AND IT JUMPS INTO GEARS WHEN I PUT ON BRAKES OR REMOVE MY FOOT FROM THE BRAKES, MAKE TURNS, ETC. LONG STORY, THREE DEALERSHIPS AND FIVE TRIPS LATER, STILL DOING THE SAME THING. *AK
HAS VARYING IDLE AND POOR GAS MILEAGE SINCE 5000 MILES. CHRYSLER DENIES THIS IS A PROBLEM, HAVE TALKED WITH OTHER OWNERS WHO HAVE THIS SAME ISSUE. VEHICLE WILLL IDLE FROM 500 - 750 RPM IN DRIVE WITH A NOTICIBLE MISS. *AK
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING MY 2004 CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY AND SMELLED GAS. SHE PULLED OVER AND NOTICED A SMALL GASH IN THE SIDE OF THE TANK. SHE OBVIOUSLY RAN SOMETHING OVER AND IT PIERCED THE TANK. MY CONCERN IS, HOW COME THERE IS NO PROTECTIVE SHROUD AROUND A PLASTIC GAS TANK THAT SITS RIGHT UNDER MY 3 YEAR OLDS CAR SEAT? THANKFULLY SHE SMELLED THE GAS IMMEDIATELY AND THERE WAS NO FIRE. THIS MAY NOT BE THE CASE IN THE FUTURE. I CONTACTED CHRYSLER'S CUSTOMER SERVICE HOTLINE AND WAS TOLD THERE IS NO RECALL, TO CONTACT THE NHTSA. I HAVE ALSO SENT AN EMAIL TO CHRYSLER VOICING MY CONCERNS AND AM WAITING FOR A REPLY. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS ISSUE TO AVOID ANY FATALITIES. THANK YOU. *NM
THE VEHICLE HAS HAD NUMEROUS PROBLEMS RELATED TO QUALITY AND SAFETY. IN JUNE OF 2004 THE SERPENTINE BELT SPLIT AND ALL POWER ASSIST WAS LOST, CHRYSLER REPLACED THE AC COMPRESSOR AND THE BELT BUT DID NOT REPLACE ANY PS HOSES. THE VAN IS NOW LEAKING POWER STEERING FLUID THAT MUST BE REPLACED ALMOST AS OFTEN AS I GET GAS. THIS IS UNSAFE AND ANNOYING. THE VAN ALSO HAS A THUMPING SOUND WHEN WHENEVER YOU GO OVER THIS SLIGHTEST BUMP. IT SOUNDS LIKE A STRUT OR SPRING IS LOOSE IN THE FRONT END. I TOOK IT TO BCP IN SMYRNA WHEN IT FIRST STARTED HAPPENING AND THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG. IN 2005 THE TRANSMISSION WAS SHUTTERING WHENEVER WE CAME TO A STOP AND IT DOWNSHIFTED. THE SERVICE FOREMAN TOOK A RIDE AND SAID THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG. I TOOK IT TO WORLD TRANSMISSION IN DOVER AND HE PUT A TESTER ON IT AND DETERMINED THAT THE DEFAULTS WERE OFF AND HE RESET THEM. I HAVEN'T HAD A TRANSMISSION SHUTTER SINCE THEN. *JB
MY TOWN AND COUNTRY HAS BEEN IN THE REPAIR SHOP APPROX. 11 TIMES NOW. IT HAS 20,000 MILES ON IT. THE FIRST INCIDENT HAPPENED AT ABOUT APPROX 3,000 MILES INTO IT, ABOUT 1 MONTH OLD, IT SHUTS OFF BY ITSELF. THIS PROGRESSIVLY GOT WORSE, IT RUNS VERY ROUGH AND LOSES POWER WHILE DRIVING. THE STEERING FLUID HAS LEAKED TWICE, FIRST TIME AT 6,000 MILES, APPROX 2-3 MONTHS OLD. BRAKES REPLACED APPROX 15,000 SQUEAL IN BELT. ODOR IN A/C. *JB
