PURCHASED A USED 2005 T&C VAN FROM A LOCAL DEALERSHIP. TOOK IT TO THE LOCAL CHRYSLER DEALER TO HAVE OIL & LUBE SERVICE. MENTIONED THAT MY BRAKES WERE A LITTLE SQUEAKY, PLEASE CHECK THEM. THE VEHICLE HAS 41,600 MILES AND I AM THE SECOND OWNER. WAS INFORMED BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT MY RACK AND PINION WAS LEAKING AND CAUSING THE NOISE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED....TO THE TUNE OF $800 PLUS TAX. I HAVE BEEN RESEARCHING THIS SINCE I GOT HOME AND HAVE SEEN THERE ARE MANY, MANY COMPLAINTS EXACTLY THE SAME. THIS IS SO OBVIOUSLY A DEFECT THAT EVEN A CHILD COULD SEE IT. TOO MANY VEHICLES WITH THE SAME COMPLAINT. CHRYSLER NEEDS TO REPLACE THESE UNITS UNDER WARRANTY. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TURN SIGNAL DOES NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY. OFTENTIMES, WHEN THE PASSENGER SIDE TURN SIGNAL IS ACTIVATED, THE DRIVER'S SIDE TURN SIGNAL WOULD BEGIN TO FLASH AND VICE VERSA. THE DEALER ACKNOWLEDGED THE FAILURE, BUT STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE LESS THAN 51,000. UPDATED 02-23-09 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED THE MULTI-FUNCTION SWITCH WAS REPLACED. UPDATED 02/24/09. *JB
WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE IN JANUARY 2009 THE HEATER BLOWER FAN SUDDENLY WENT TO FULL BLAST AND FULL HEAT. II WAS NOT ABLE TO TURN IT OFF OR DOWN. AFTER EXITING THE INTERSTATE AND PARKING THE MINI VAN, I TURNED THE ENGINE OFF FOR A MINUTE AND AFTER RESTARTING EVERYTHING WAS NORMAL. LATER THAT SAME MORNING THE HEATER AGAIN WENT TO FULL BLAST WITH NO INPUT FROM ME. I TOOK THE VEHICLE INTO THE DEALER AND AFTER 30 MINUTES, THE SERVICE MANAGER SAID IT WAS FIXED FOR NOW BUT TOLD ME I NEEDED A NEW TEMPERATURE CONTROL MODULE; HE WOULD HAVE TO ORDER ONE AT $750.00, I REPLIED THAT I'D THINK ABOUT IT. DURING THE NEXT FEW WEEKS THE PROBLEM OCCURRED AGAIN AND AFTER TURNING THE ENGINE OFF EVERYTHING SEEMED TO WORK OK. SOMETIMES THE PROBLEM WOULD GO AWAY ON ITS OWN. IT WAS NOT UNTIL THE WEATHER BEGAN TO WARM THAT I DISCOVERED I HAVE NO A/C, ALTHOUGH THE FREON LEVEL APPEARED TO BE OK. I CALLED AUTOZONE TO INQUIRE ABOUT A REPLACEMENT PART AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT CHRYSLER HAD NOT RELEASED THE PART FOR THE AFTERMARKET BUT THEY COULD ORDER A USED PART FOR $209.00. THE REPLACEMENT PART WOULD CARRY A 3 YEAR WARRANTY. I ORDERED THE PART WHICH WAS DELIVERED A FEW DAYS LATER. IT TOOK LESS THAN 30 MINUTES TO REPLACE THE UNIT AND EVERYTHING IS NOW LIKE NEW. *TR
MANY REPAIRS HAVE HAD TO BE MADE ON OUR 2005 T & C CHRYSLER, BUT TODAY WE GOT THE NEWS THAT OUR RACK AND PINION NEED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF OVER 1,000 DOLLARS. WHEN I INQUIRED IF THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM I WAS TOLD NO NOT REALLY. I TURNED TO THE INTERNET ONLY TO SEE MULTIPLE OWNERS COMPLAINING OF THIS VERY SITUATION. RACK AND PINION SHOULD NOT GO AT 40,000 MILES THE VEHICLES NEED TO BE RECALLED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE DRIVER'S SIDE MIRROR FAILED AND DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. PRIOR TO THE FAILURE, THE MIRROR SHOOK, BUT THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESEAT THE MIRROR. SHE CALLED THE DEALER AND THE REPLACEMENT PART WAS ORDERED. THE VEHICLE WILL BE REPAIRED. THE CONTACT IS IN THE PROCESS OF NOTIFYING THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 53,500 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 53,900.
I ATTEMPTED TO LOCK MY VAN USING THE REMOTE. THE VAN DID NOT LOCK. THOUGHT BATTERY WAS DEAD IN MY REMOTE. BUT SLIDING DOOR WOULD STILL OPEN. THEN I HAD TO MANUALLY LOCK ALL DOORS AND IT'S DIFFICULT WHEN I'M PREGNANT. I AM UNABLE TO UNLOCK ALL DOORS USING THE INTERIOR SWITCH AND THERE IS ONLY ONE DOOR THAT I HAVE TO MANUALLY UNLOCK WITH THE KEY. IT WAS CONSTANT. SOMEONE SUGGESTED TO POP OFF THE FUSE AND THEN PUT IT BACK. DID THAT. BUT TEMPORARY SOLUTION. ALSO THE LOCK WILL NOT AUTOMATICALLY LOCK WHEN VAN IS IN MOTION OVER 20 MPH. DANGEROUS AS I HAVE KIDS ALL UNDER THE AGE OF 5. *TR
AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCKS STOP WORKING. NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS OVER THE WEB. DEALER DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO FIX PROBLEM; DEALER HAS SEEN OTHER VANS WITH SAME ISSUE, BUT COULD NOT FIX (PERFORMED BCM UPDATE, BUT TO NO AVAIL). VAN HAS 80K MILES. CAN TEMPORARILY FIX THE PROBLEM BY PULLING THE IOD FUSE TO RESET THE COMPUTER. PROBLEM RECURS EVERY 1-4 WEEKS. *TR

2005 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY WITH 45,000. *TR
AT ABOUT 45,000 STARTED NOTICING A GROANING NOISE FROM THE STEERING. I'VE ALREADY HAD SOME OF THE FRONT END PARTS REPLACED AT ABOUT 30,000 MILES ON THE 2005 CHRYSLER MINIVAN THAT SHOULD NEVER HAVE WORN OUT. HOWEVER, IT STARTED MAKING A GROANING NOISE AND I NOTICED THAT THE POWER STEERING FLUID LEVEL WAS LOW. REFILLED THAT AND IT FIXED IT FOR ABOUT 5000 MILES. IT'S STARTING IT AGAIN. I HAD A 2001 DODGE MINIVAN AND IT DID THE SAME THING AT 140,000 MILES AND REQUIRED A REPLACEMENT RACK AND PINION. I'M HOPING AT 52,000 MILES ON THIS, IT DOESN'T NEED IT NOW. HOW DISCOURAGING. *TR
WATER PUMP BROKE, RACK & PINION BROKE, THERMOSTAT. *TR
CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY 2005 STEERING DEVELOPED A NOISE AND OUR MECHANIC IDENTIFIED THE STEERING RESERVOIR WAS REQUIRED TO BE REPLACED UNDER A MANUFACTURER SERVICE BULLETIN. THIS WAS COMPLETED AND ABOUT TWO MONTHS LATER, THE RACK AND PINION WAS DIAGNOSED TO HAVE A FAILED SEAL. THE VEHICLE HAS 67K MILES ON IT, WHICH ARE FAMILY COMMUTER MILES. THE RESERVOIR COST OVER $200 AND THE RACK IS GOING TO COST ABOUT $900. THIS IS A MANUFACTURER PRODUCT DEFICIENCY AND SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER A RECALL. AS OTHERS HAVE POSTED, THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD COVER THIS FAILURE. *TR
WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT ON A DARK ROAD MY LIGHTS STARTED TO FLICKER, IT STOP FOR A WHILE BUT SUDDENLY IT WENT OFF , I ENDED UP DRIVE OFF THE ROAD INTO A SMALL DITCH. I HAVE HAD PROBLEM WITH THIS FOR A YEAR, THE LIGHT SWITCH IS DEFECTIVE AND CHRYSLER REFUSE TO REPLACE IT . I HAVE TO PAY TO REPLACE IT. *TR
OUR 2005 CHRYSLER T&C BEGAN MAKING A STRANGE NOISE WHEN TURNING. WE THEN BEGAN TO NOTICE POWER STEERING FLUID UNDER THE VAN. WE TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO DEALER 3 TIMES TO HAVE THE PROBLEM FIXED WHILE UNDER WARRANTY. THE PROBLEM STOPPED FOR A FEW MONTHS, BUT THE PROBLEM BEGINS AGAIN EACH YEAR WHEN THE WEATHER GETS COLD. IT'S THAT TIME OF THE YEAR AGAIN AND THE VAN IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. IT'S MAKING THAT AWFUL SOUND AGAIN AND LEAKING LIKE CRAZY. I LOOKED ON LINE TO SEE HOW TO REPLACE THE 'HOSE' THE DEALER SUPPOSEDLY REPLACED EACH TIME WE TOOK IT IN AND I WAS SURPRISED AT THE SHEER NUMBER OF PEOPLE WHO WERE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THEIR VANS. I REALLY BEGAN TO BE CONCERNED WHEN I READ THAT THERE WERE VAN ENGINES THAT ACTUALLY CAUGHT FIRE FROM THE POWER STEERING FLUID LEAK. THIS SEEMS TO BE A SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BEFORE SOMETHING MORE DISASTROUS OCCURS. *TR
A GROANING NOISE WAS COMING FROM THE STEERING. EXAMINED BY THE DEALERSHIP - COURTESY DODGE - AND I'M TOLD IT IS THE POWER STEERING RACK. REVIEWING COMPLAINTS ON THE WEB I FIND THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY MINI-VANS AND THAT CHRYSLER FIGHTS PEOPLE ON COVERING THIS COMMON ISSUE. *TR
2005 CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY HAD TO REPLACE THE EGR VALVE AT 57,322 MILES. *TR
VEHICLE STEERING RACK AND PINION BAD. I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE NEW/USED. THE FIRST TIME I DROVE IT HOME IT STARTED TO "WHINE" WHEN BRAKING AND TURNING THE WHEEL. THE STEERING GETS VERY HARD AT TIMES, ALSO NOW MAKES "POPPING" NOISES AND FEELS LIKE THE WHEELS ARE COMING OFF. MY MECHANIC SAID HAS A BAD RACK AND PINION. THERE ARE NUMEROUS AMOUNTS OF CLAIMS ON THIS VEHICLE FOR THE VERY SAME PROBLEM, BUT STILL NO RECALL. I FEEL FOR MY SAFETY AND I CAN'T AFFORD TO HAVE THIS REPAIRED. CHRYSLER STILL HASN'T ISSUED A RECALL FOR THIS MATTER. MY MECHANIC SAID IT IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE. FAILING STEERING ON 2005 CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY LTD. NEW RACK AND PINION, POWER STEERING PUMP, RESERVOIR ALL NEED REPLACEMENT. *TR
ROOF WELDS ON BOTH SIDES OF THE VAN ABOVE SLIDING DOORS ARE CRACKED! MAJOR STRUCTURAL HAZARD. IT'S ALSO ALLOWING WATER TO ENTER THE INNER BODY PANELS AND IS RUNNING DOWN INSIDE THE WINDOW SUPPORTS/PILLARS BETWEEN THE DOORS ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE ROCKER PANELS (WHICH ARE NOW RUSTING THROUGH FROM THE INSIDE OUT). IT TURNS OUT THIS IS A MAJOR PROBLEM ON THESE VANS. ALL VEHICLES WITH A VIN WITH THE 12TH DIGIT OF R, WHICH WERE MADE IN THE WINDSOR PLANT HAVE THIS ISSUE. I HAD BROUGHT THE RUST TO THE ATTENTION OF A CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP WHILE IT WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY, AND THEY CLAIMED IT WAS SALT CORROSION AND NOT COVERED BECAUSE IT WAS NOT AN OUTER BODY PANEL. IT TURNS OUT THAT THE ISSUE WAS ACTUALLY BECAUSE OF THESE ROOF CRACKS, AND THE RUST WAS FROM THE INSIDE OUT BECAUSE OF ALL THE WATER RUNNING DOWN INTO THE ROCKERS. THIS IS AFFECTING THE STRUCTURAL SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE, AND SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING ON A VEHICLE BARELY OVER 5 YEARS OLD (I HAD NOTICED THE ROCKER RUST AT THE 3 YEAR MARK). *TR
UPON HEARING A NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE OF OUR 2005 TOWN AND COUNTRY WE TOOK THE VAN TO OUR INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. HE FOUND THE NOISE WAS CAUSED BY A BROKEN ALTERNATOR MOUNT. HE DID NOT COMPLETE ANY REPAIRS BUT STATED WE SHOULD CONTACT CHRYSLER SINCE THIS WAS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT IN THE PART. WHEN I CONTACTED CHRYSLER I WAS TOLD I HAD TO TAKE IT TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER TO HAVE THEM LOOK AT IT AND THEN THE DEALERSHIP WOULD HAVE TO CALL THEM BACK. I DID THAT AND THE SHOP MANAGER, JIM, TOOK AN APPROXIMATELY 15 SECOND LOOK AT THE BROKEN PART, SHUT THE HOOD, TOOK MY NUMBER AND ASKED WHY CHRYSLER SAID HE HAD TO CALL. I TOLD HIM THAT WAS WHAT I HAD BEEN TOLD AND HE SAID HE WOULD GET BACK WITH ME. I CALLED HIM THE NEXT DAY AND HE SAID HE HAD A CALL IN TO HIS DISTRICT MANAGER WHO HAD THE AUTHORITY TO AUTHORIZE REPAIRS. WHEN JIM CALLED BACK HE STATED THAT THE DISTRICT MANAGER WOULD NOT REPAIR THE BROKEN PART BASED ON THE NUMBER OF MILES ON THE VAN (83,000.) JIM ALSO STATED THAT HE HAD NEVER SEEN THIS HAPPEN BEFORE AND HAD NO IDEA WHAT COULD HAVE CAUSED THE MOUNT TO BREAK. HE AGREED THAT EVEN IF THE VAN HAD 200,000 MILES ON IT HE WOULD NOT EXPECT TO SEE THE BROKEN MOUNT. I ASKED WHAT OTHER RECOURSE I HAD AND HE STATED I WOULD HAVE TO CALL THE 1-800 CHRYSLER NUMBER. I THEN CALLED THAT NUMBER AND SPOKE WITH STEVE WHO TOOK A REPORT ( WHICH I REQUESTED TO HAVE FILED.) HE THEN TRANSFERRED ME TO CHERYL WHO READ THE REPORT AND THEN CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND SPOKE WITH JIM. WHEN SHE RETURNED TO ME SHE STATED THEY WOULD NOT DO THE REPAIR BASED ON THE NUMBER OF MILES AND THE FACT THAT I DID NOT EXCLUSIVELY USE THE DEALERSHIP FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE. SHE SAID THAT SINCE I DID NOT SHOW LOYALTY TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THE BRAND THEN THEY WERE NOT WILLING COVER THE REPAIR. NO ONE EVER DENIED THAT THE PRODUCT WAS DEFECTIVE. *TR
WE USE OUR 2005 CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY FOR 2.5 YEARS. WE PURCHASED THE VAN USED WITH ROUGHLY 25000 MILES ON IT IN JULY OF 2006. WE NOW HAVE 77000 MILES ON IT AND NOW THE FRONT END MAKES A CLANKING NOISE WHILE GOING OVER BUMPS AND THE IS A WHINING GRINDING LIKE SOUND UNDERNEATH THE HOOD CLOSE TO THE DASH. IT IS WORSE WITH COLD WEATHER AND WHEN THE STIRRING WHEEL IS TURNED COMPLETELY IN EITHER DIRECTION. I DID AN INTERNET SEARCH AND FOUND A BLOG FORUM AT TOWNHALL-TALK.COM. EVERYONE ONE ON THIS PARTICULAR BLOG HAD T&C VANS AND HAD THE SAME PROBLEM I HAVE EXPERIENCED AND DEALERS HAVE SAID THE RACK AND PINION NEEDING REPLACEMENT FOR ROUGHLY$850.00 PLUS. I HAVE NOT HAD THE PROBLEM ASSESSED (WILL BE TODAY). OUR WARRANTY IS EXPIRED AND NOW WE ARE HAVING PROBLEMS. SOUNDS TYPICAL RIGHT? IF CHRYSLER T&C VANS ALL SEEMED TO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE STIRRING SYSTEM. I READ ABOUT MANY DIFFERENT DEALER SAYING THAT THEY REPLACE MANY OF THOSE RACKS AND THE PARTS ARE ON BACK ORDER. IF THE PARTS ARE ON BACK ORDER THAT SHOULD BE A SIGN THAT THERE IS AN ISSUE ACROSS THE BOARD AND THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL. IN THESE TRYING ECONOMIC TIMES PEOPLE DON'T HAVE MONEY TO SPEND ON CRAPPY MADE PARTS AND CHRYSLER CANT AFFORD ANYMORE NEGATIVE PUBLICITY EITHER. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE! *TR
1) NORMAL DRIVING 2) BRAKE PADS WEAR OUT FASTER THAN USUAL WHEN COMPARING IT TO OTHER CHRYSLER MINIVAN MODELS NOT TOWN AND COUNTRY. 3) I HAD THE BRAKE PADS REPLACED MORE OFTEN THAN EXPECTED. *TR
3 TIMES - THE POWER SIDE DOORS, POWER DOOR LOCKS, AND POWER WINDOWS WILL QUIT WORKING. AS NOTED ABOVE, WE REMOVE A FUSE, LEAVE IT OUT FOR 10 MINUTES, REPLACE, AND EVERYTHING WORKS AGAIN. THIS SEEMS TO HAPPEN EVERY 4-6 MONTHS. THERE ARE NUMEROUS LISTINGS OF THIS SAME PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET. THANKS TO BLOGS, I FOUND THE REPAIR FOR THE PROBLEM. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG SENSOR CONTROL MODULE MALFUNCTIONED, WHICH CAUSED THE AIR BAG INDICATOR TO ILLUMINATE. THE INDICATOR ILLUMINATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 75 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP AND THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE AIR BAG SENSOR WAS CORRODED. THE INDICATOR REMAINED ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER STATED THAT HER VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 07V192000 (AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:SENSOR/CONTROL MODULE). AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT LIGHT STAYS ON WITHOUT PROVOCATION. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, TURNED OFF, AND RESTARTED. THE AIR BAG LIGHT DIMMED. APPROXIMATELY FIVE MILES LATER, THE AIR BAG LIGHT BEGAN ILLUMINATING AGAIN. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FRONT IMPACT SENSOR, WIRING, AND HARNESS WERE CORRODED. THE REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 59,397 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 59,197.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS THE "AIR BAG" WARNING LIGHT INDICATOR ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS RELATED TO THE AIR BAG FRONTAL SENSOR. THE CONTACT EXPERIENCED THE IDENTICAL FAILURES RELATED TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 07V192000 (AIR BAGS;FRONTAL;SENSOR/CONTROL MODULE); HOWEVER, THE VIN NUMBER WAS NOT INCLUDED. THERE WAS CONCERN OF THE SAFETY RISK INVOLVED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 40,000.

WHEN THE DOORS ACT UP AND BOUNCE BACK OPEN, THEY SOMETIMES TRY TO RE-CLOSE BUT THE INTERFERENCE SENSOR DOESN'T STOP THE DOOR FROM CLOSING ON A BODY PART. CAN TEMPORARILY MAKE IT BETTER BY REMOVING AND REPLACING THE IOD FUSE, BUT THE PROBLEM RETURNS A SHORT TIME LATER. PROBLEM BEGAN RIGHT AFTER WARRANTY EXPIRED. DEALER WANTS 300-800 TO ATTEMPT TO FIX THE PROBLEM BUT CAN'T GUARANTEE THAT EITHER COMPONENT WILL POSITIVELY CORRECT THE PROBLEM. FRONT HOOD EDGE HAS STARTED TO BUBBLE UP WITH RUST (2005 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY VAN) MY 2001 DODGE CARAVAN HAS THE SAME PROBLEM BUT IS RUSTED THROUGH. AFTER REPAIRING A FLAT TIRE, THE SPARE TIRE HANGER JAMMED, CAUSING THE TIRE TO APPEAR IN PLACE BUT ACTUALLY LOOSE. THE HANGER IS A WINCH WITH A WIRE ROPE THAT RETRACTS TO HANG THE TIRE UNDER THE MID-SECTION OF THE VAN. THE WIRE ROPE SPOOLED UNEVENLY, JAMMING AGAINST THE HOUSING. NO ACCIDENT OCCURRED, BUT THERE IS HIGH POTENTIAL FOR HARM TO OTHER DRIVERS IF THE TIRE WERE TO FALL TO THE ROADWAY. *TR
