AT 27,000 MILES THE A/C ON MY CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY FAILED - LEAK IN REAR EVAPORTOR CORE. THE SYSTEM WILL HOLD NO REFRIGERANT AT ALL. THE DEALER, WHITE PLAINS CHRYSLER, 70 WESTCHESTER AVE., WHITE PLAINS, NY. CANNOT GET THIS PART AS IT IS ON BACK ORDER AND WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE FOR ONE MONTH AT LEAST. THERE ARE SEVERAL OTHER OF THE SAME VEHICLES AT THE SAME DEALERSHIP AWAITING THIS PART. THIS SEEMS AN UNREASONABLE SITUATION AND ONE THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD ADDRESS. THE ONLY EXPLANATION FROM THE MANUFACTURER WAS THAT THIS IS A POPULAR CAR! IT LOOKS LIKE AN EXTRAORDINARY NUMBER OF DEFECTS IN THIS PART AS I RESEARCH IT ON THE INTERNET. THAT THIS PART WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE UNTIL THE SUMMER IS OVER IS UNREASONABLE. WE ARE A RETIRED COUPLE AND MY HUSBAND HAS CONGESTIVE HEART FAILURE AND COULD NOT IN ANY WAY BE SUBJECT TO THE TEMPERATURES INSIDE THIS VEHICLE. WE ARE THUS WITHOUT TRANSPORTATION. WE ARE "TRAPPED" IN OUR HOME FOR THE ENTIRE SUMMER. WHY CAN'T THE MANUFACTURER MAKE THIS PART AVAILABLE TO THE DEALER IN A MORE TIMELY MANNER? *TR
MY 2 YEAR OLD SON'S FINGERS WERE SEVERELY BRUISED WHEN THE POWER SLIDING DOOR CLOSED AND FAILED TO DETECT THE OBSTRUCTION (HIS FINGERS) AND REVERSE. *TR
2005 CHRYSLER T&C STALLS AFTER GAS FILLUP. - WITHIN THE LAST YEAR MY 2005 T&C HAS BEGUN TO STALL WITHIN 20 SECONDS AFTER A COMPLETE FUEL TANK FILLUP. IT NOW WILL STALL SEVERAL TIMES WITHIN THE NEXT 2 MINUTES AND IS BECOMING A SAFETY HAZARD OUT ON THE ROAD. THE DEALER INDICATES A ROLL-OVER VALVE IN THE FUEL TANK MAY BE AT FAULT AND A FUEL TANK REPLACEMENT IS NEEDED. SEEMS A BIT EXCESSIVE FOR A FAULT DETECTION SENSOR. NOT SURE THIS IS THE ANSWER. I HAVE READ OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS BUT NO IDENTIFIED CORRECTION. IS THERE A RECALL OR IDENTIFIED SOLUTION? IT DOES NOT HAPPEN ON PARTIAL FUEL REFILLS OR IF I LEAVE THE T&C RUNNING DURING REFUELING. WOULD APPRECIATE ANY INFORMATION AS I NOW FEEL THIS IS GETTING WORSE AND MAY NOT START AFTER ONE OF THESE STALLS. *TR
2005 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY , TURN ON THE VAN THERE IS AN IMMEDIATE WHINE. WHILE TURNING CORNERS AND GOING AT SLOWER SPEEDS VEHICLE WILL WHINE AND GRIND. HAS CONTINUALLY GOTTEN LOUDER OVER THE LAST 3 MONTHS. REPLACED POWER STEERING PUMP AFTER CONSULTING REPAIRMAN AND DID NOT FIX PROBLEM. NOW WE ARE LEAKING POWER STEERING FLUID AND WHINE AND GRIND IS EVEN LOUDER. HAVE READ MANY FORUMS ABOUT POWER STEERING RACKS GOING OUT, THAT IS OUR NEXT TRY, TO FIX WHINING PROBLEM. *TR
RANDOMLY, THE POWER LOCKS ON MY NEWLY PURCHASED 2005 CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY TOURING EDITION (3.8L V6) DECIDED TO STOP WORKING. RESEARCH ONLINE TOLD US TO JUST REMOVE THE FUSE LABELED IOD AND THEN PUT IT BACK. THIS DOES STOP THE PROBLEM BUT IT'S TEMPORARY AND IN MY CASE IT STOPPED WORKING. AFTER FURTHER RESEARCH IT APPEARS THE VEHICLE NEEDS A COMPUTER UPDATE WHICH I'M EXPECTED TO PAY FOR. THIS UPDATE, IN MY CASE, WOULD REQUIRE ME TO LOSE MY CAR FOR AT LEAST A WEEK. SEEING THAT I AM IN A HIGH RISK PREGNANCY I DON'T THINK IT WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA TO NOT HAVE MY CAR. CHRYSLER KNOWS THIS IS A PROBLEM CAUSE THEY MADE THE UPDATE TO CORRECT IT. I THINK THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. I LEAVE MY CAR, HIT THE LOCK BUTTON, HEAR THE HONK TELLING ME IT'S LOCKED BUT IT'S NOT. SOMEONE CAN EASILY GET INTO MY CAR. AS WELL, I HAVE A 2 YEAR OLD. I HAVE THE CHILD LOCKS ON BUT IF THEY MALFUNCTION AS WELL OR SHE IS OUTSIDE OF THE CAR AND MANAGES TO OPEN THE DOOR WHEN THEY SHOULD BE LOCKED SHE COULD GET HER FINGERS STUCK IN THE HEAVY DOOR. I ALSO LIVE IN BEAR COUNTRY. IT'S NOT COMPLETELY UNUSUAL FOR BEARS TO MANIPULATE VEHICLES AND GET INSIDE WHEN THEY ARE LEFT UNLOCKED. WE ALWAYS LOCK OUR CARS. WE ALWAYS RELY ON THE CAR'S POWER LOCK OPTION THAT YOU PAY EXTRA FOR TO OPERATE PROPERLY. I THINK THE UPDATE SHOULD AT LEAST BE OFFERED, RAPIDLY AT A CHRYSLER SERVICE SHOP FREE OF CHARGE AND THE SAME DAY YOU MAKE YOUR APPOINTMENT AS IT IS A SAFETY HAZARD. *TR
ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL FAILURE. AT 37,000 MILES MY ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS CAME ON. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING BECAUSE IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. I CALLED CHRYSLER AND THEY TOLD ME THE SAME THING. ALSO MY SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT CAME ON AND WAS TOLD IT IS MY EGR VALVE. MY BRAKES FAILED AND HIT MY MUSTANG WITH THE VAN. STILL THEY WOULD DO NOTHING ABOUT IT. *TR
DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW STOPPED WORKING CONSISTENTLY SIX MONTHS AGO AND NOW DOES NOT WORK AT ALL. PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW WORKED FINE UNTIL FOUR MONTHS AGO AND STOPPED ALL OF A SUDDEN AND HAS NOT WORKED SINCE. THIS PROBLEM STARTED LESS THAN SIX MONTHS AFTER THE MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY EXPIRED. *TR
FRONT BRAKES OVERHEATED DUE TO CALIPERS STICKING. ROTORS ETC. REPLACED. 4 MONTHS LATER PEDAL VIBRATIONS TAKES ME BACK TO THE NON-DEALER SHOP AND ROTORS ARE WARPED FROM BRAKES OVERHEATING. EVERYTHING REPLACED UNDER SHOP WARRANTY. 2 MONTHS LATER - SAME THING - SHOP IS NOW GOING TO REPLACE THE PARTS WITH CHRYSLER PARTS INSTEAD OF AFTERMARKET ONES. AFTER READING 15 SIMILAR COMPLAINTS IN THIS DATABASE - MAKES ME WONDER ABOUT THIS BEING A FAULTY DESIGN. *TR
BROUGHT VEHICLE IN FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE AND WAS TOLD THAT I NEEDED THE STEERING RACK REPLACED. PURCHASED THE VEHICLE A LITTLE OVER A YEAR AGO WITH A 1YR UNLIMITED MILES EXTENDED WARRANTY DUE TO THE FACT THAT IT WAS RETURNED UNDER THE LEMON LAW FOR A DIFFERENT MATTER. CONSIDERING THAT VANS ARE MORE OF A FAMILY ORIENTATED VEHICLE I FIND IT ODD THAT THERE HASN'T BEEN SOME TYPE OF RECALL ON THIS. HAVE BEEN TO SEVERAL DIFFERENT INTERNET FORUM DISCUSSIONS AND IT IS JUST AMAZING HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE HAVING THIS SAME PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE HAD ROUGHLY 46,000 MI. AT TIME OF DISCOVERY. THERE WEREN'T ANY NOISES OR ANYTHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY THAT WOULD HAVE SUGGESTED THAT THERE WAS SOMETHING AMISS. NOT SURE HOW LONG DRIVING LIKE THAT, WHICH WORRIES ME WITH CHILDREN. *TR
MY VEHICLE BEGAN MAKING A SLIGHT WHIRRING OR GRINDING NOISE IN JUNE 2008. I NOTICED THAT IT FELT LIKE THE CAR WAS PULLING TO ONE SIDE AND IT SEEMED DIFFICULT TO STEER. I TOOK IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP THINKING IT MIGHT HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH JUST HAVING OUR TIRES BALANCED. THEY SAID THE RACK AND PINION STEERING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. AT THAT TIME WE HAD ABOUT 40,000 MILES ON THE CAR, AND FEEL THAT IS WAY TOO EARLY FOR SUCH A REPLACEMENT. THIS 2005 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY HAS HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS! (RIGHT SLIDING DOOR, SEAT BELT, GAS GAUGE, AIR BAG SENSOR, ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS.) *TR
FAILED STEERING RACK ON CHRYSLER VAN AT 43,000 MILES. PA VEHICLE INSPECTION ISSUE REQUIRED TO BE REPAIRED. RACK LEAKING OIL WHICH DRIPS ONTO HOT EXHAUST SYSTEM PIPE. VAN BECOMES DIFFICULT TO STEER AT TIMES. CHRYSLER CORPORATION REFUSED ASSISTANCE ALTHOUGH DEALER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE STATED HUGE PROBLEM EXISTS WITH MANY BACKORDERED STEERING RACK SYSTEMS FOR THESE VANS AND IS CONSIDERED A MANUFACTURING DESIGN AND QUALITY ISSUE. CHRYSLER, HOWEVER, LEAVES THE FINANCIAL FIX TO COME FROM ITS CUSTOMER WITHOUT ASSISTANCE. NO SAFETY RECALL WHICH IS INCREDIBLE! *TR
POWER LOCKS FAILED. I TOOK THE VAN TO THE DEALERSHIP IN JAN. 2009 FOR OTHER REPAIRS (CK ENGINE LIGHT - ENDED UP BEING A BAD EGC VALVE) AND WHEN I MENTIONED THE LOCKS HAD FAILED THE TECHNICIAN IMMEDIATELY ASKED IF THE VAN WAS A 2005. WHEN I SAID YES, HE TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS A DEFECT IN THE PROGRAMMING OF THE LOCKS WHICH HAS CAUSED A HIGH NUMBER OF THEM TO FAIL. TOLD I WOULD HAVE TO PAY $100 TO HAVE THEM FIXED. WHICH I DID AS IT HAS BEEN VERY INCONVENIENT AS THERE IS ONLY ONE LOCK FOR KEY ENTRY. $100 FOR IT TO BE REPROGRAMMED WAS HIGHWAY ROBBERY. WHY WAS THERE NO RECALL IF THEY KNEW THEY WERE DEFECTIVE? *TR
ON 2005 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY, POWER DOOR LOCKS COMPLETELY STOP WORKING. PULLING THE IOD FUSE FIXES THE PROBLEM FOR A COUPLE WEEKS, THEN THEY STOP WORKING AGAIN. DEALER WANTS $100 TO UPGRADE SOFTWARE. INTERNET SEARCH SHOWS THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM AFTER 45,000 MILES. *TR
I NOTICE SOME OIL LEAKS ON MY DRIVE WAY .SO I TOOK MY CAR IN TOO HAVE IT LOOK AT AND WAS TOLD I NEED A NEW POWER STEERING RACK REPLACE. IT S GOING TO COST ME 1000.00 TO GET IT FIX. I HAVE READ MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM THIS ISSUE SHOULD BE A RECALL. I ALSO READ THAT CHRYSLER HAS REDESIGN THE RACK AND PIN FOR THIS MODEL. WHY ARE THEY DOING THIS UNLESS IT IS A PROBLEM THAT THEY ARE TRYING TO COVER IT UP. I AM REALLY DISAPPOINTED IN CHRYSLER I NOW AM RETHINKING IF CHRYSLER WAS A GOOD CHOICE FOR ME AND MY FAMILY. *TR
THERE WERE NO EVENTS LEADING UP TO THIS PROBLEM. CAR WAS TAKEN REGULARLY FOR OIL CHANGES AND REQUIRED MANUFACTURER MAINTENANCE AT THE DEALERSHIP. CAR WAS BEING DRIVEN AND WHILE PULLING ACROSS HIGHWAY IT JUST DOES NOT GO. THE CAR CONTINUED TO RUN BUT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT ENGAGE AND PULL THE VEHICLE. ACCORDING TO THE DEALERSHIP, THE PUMP PROBABLY WENT OUT AND CAUSED THE DAMAGE TO THE TRANSMISSION. THUS, THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION IS BEING REPLACED. THIS IS A 3 YEAR OLD VEHICLE AND HAS 80,000 MILES. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS NOR ANY OBSERVABLE SIGNS THAT THE VEHICLE WAS IN ANY DISTRESS. MAYBE A FACTORY DEFECT BUT EXTREMELY DANGEROUS.
LAST FALL (2007) STARTED TO NOTICE THAT THE AIR CONDITIONING WASN'T GETTING AS COLD AS FAST AS IT USE TOO. THEN THE FALL WENT BY AND SUMMER ARRIVED, WENT TO TURN ON THE A/C AND NOTHING BUT HOT AIR CAME OUT. BOUGHT A RECHARGE KIT TO SEE IF THE KILL SWITCH HAD BEEN ENGAGED FOR NOT HAVING THE PROPER LEVEL OF FREON IN THE SYSTEM. ONCE FREON WAS PUT IN, THE COMPRESSOR TURNED ON THEN THE PRESSURE WENT DOWN TO 0 IN A MATTER OF SECONDS. SHUT OFF THE CAR AND HEARD A HISSING SOUND COMING FROM THE RIGHT REAR WHEEL WELL AREA. REACHED UP AND WAS ABLE TO LOCATE A BOX WITH A TUBE COMING OUT OF IT (LATER FOUND OUT IT WAS CALLED THE EVAPORATOR CORE EXTENSION UNIT) AND WAS ABLE TO PLACE MY FINGER OVER THE PART AND THE HISSING STOPPED. SINCE THE CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY, I DECIDED TO REPLACE THE PART MYSELF. TRIED TO PURCHASE IT AT A REGULAR AUTO PART STORE, BUT IT HASN'T BEEN RELEASED TO SELL THAT WAY. SO, I CONTACTED MOPAR (CHRYSLERS DIRECT AUTO SUPPLIER) - THEY SAID THE PART WAS ON BACK ORDER TILL THE MIDDLE OF AUGUST. I HAVE, ALSO, CONTACTED THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP - WHICH INFORMED ME THERE WAS OVER 2300 BACKORDERS FOR THIS PART AND THAT IT MIGHT BE IN 2-3 WEEKS. THIS IS WERE I STARTED TO THINK THAT THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW WITH THE CAR. THIS PART IS LOCATED DIRECTLY ON THE UNDERBODY RIGHT BEHIND THE RIGHT REAR WHEEL WELL. THERE IS NO PROTECTION FROM WHATEVER CAN BE FLUNG UP FROM THE TIRES. AND WITH 2300 PARTS ON BACK ORDER, MAKES ME THINK THIS IS A SEVERE PROBLEM THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. SINCE THIS PART, MIGHT NOT BE, OBTAINED TILL AUGUST - I MIGHT HAVE TO CANCEL 2 ROAD TRIPS, BECAUSE I DON'T WANT TO OVERHEAT MY KIDS IN THE BACK. THERE IS ONLY THE FRONT WINDOWS AND THE BACK VENTS IN THE VEHICLE. THE SIDE WINDOWS DO NOT VENT. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG SENSOR LIGHT WOULD ILLUMINATE ON AND OFF WITHOUT WARNING. THE LIGHT WOULD ILLUMINATE FOR APPROXIMATELY 20 SECONDS AND THEN DIM. SHE ALSO NOTICED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY SIX TIMES PER DAY. THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL INFORMATION; THEREFORE, THEY WOULD OFFER NO ASSISTANCE. THE CONTACT RESEARCHED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 07V192000 (AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:SENSOR/CONTROL MODULE); HOWEVER, THE MANUFACTURER WOULD NOT HONOR THE RECALL. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 42,044 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 38,000.
WE HAVE A 2005 TOWN AND COUNTRY CHRYSLER MINI-VAN WITH A RACK AND PINION LEAK, OIL PAN GASKET LEAK, AND FRONT TIMING COVER SEALS LEAK. ALL ISSUES THAT HAVE COME UP IN NUMEROUS OTHER VEHICLES OF THE SAME MAKE AND YEAR. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL. *TR
2005 CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY VAN WAS SERVICED FOR SCHEDULED LUBE, OIL, OIL FILTER AND AIR FILTER REPLACEMENT AT A CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP. A CHRYSLER SERVICE REP. APPROACHED ME IN THEIR WAITING ROOM TO INFORM ME THAT THE OIL, OIL FILTER AND AIR FILTER SERVICE HAS BEEN COMPLETED BUT THERE ARE ADDITIONAL ITEMS THAT NEEDED TO BE ADDRESSED. ADDITIONAL SERVICES NEEDED INCLUDE: TIRE ROTATION, WIPER BLADES REPLACED, FRONT BRAKES, SWAY BAR LINKS AND POWER STEERING RACK REPLACEMENT. THIS VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED NEW AND HAS ONLY DRIVEN 34,500 MILES. THE CHRYSLER SERVICE REP. EXPLAINED IT ALL AS BEST HE COULD. THE COLD WEATHER HAS CAUSED THE POWER STEERING RACK FAILURE TO OCCUR. THE BRAKES ARE NEEDED BECAUSE THE FRONT BRAKES WEAR OUT FIRST. NO MENTION OF THE TIRE ROTATION, BUT; THE SWAY BAR LINKS ARE NOISY WHEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE ONTO THE LIFT IN THE SERVICE BAY. THE TIRES ON THIS VEHICLE ARE GOODYEAR INTEGRITY ALL SEASON TIRES RATED FOR 50,000 MILES OF TREAD LIFE. THE REAR TIRES (AFTER ROTATION) ARE WORN EXCESSIVELY AND APPROACHING AN UNSAFE TREAD WEAR PATTERN. THE FRONT STEERING COMPONENTS ARE FAILING AND ARE CAUSING THIS WEAR. THE TIRES HAVE BEEN ROTATED AS RECOMMENDED BY CHRYSLER. THE POWER STEERING RACK IS DEFECTIVE AND THE FRONT BRAKES ARE INSUFFICIENT. THIS VEHICLE DRIVES 5 DAYS A WEEK ON 45 - 65 MPH. PAVED ROADS. *TR
I PURCHASED A 2005 CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY TOURING EDITION BRAND NEW IN JULY OF 2005. DURING DECEMBER OF 2007, I NOTICED A SLIGHT HUM UNDER THE HOOD DURING STARTUP. THIS SOUND EVENTUALLY KEPT GETTING LOUDER AND LASTING LONGER. THIS SOUND IS MORE DRASTIC DURING TURNING OF THE STEERING WHEEL. I HAD THE VEHICLE INSPECTED BY A CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP SERVICE CENTER. THEY SAID IT WAS DUE TO A LEAK IN THE RACK OF THE RACK AND PINION SYSTEM. THEY SAID THAT THE WHOLE RACK AND PINION ASSEMBLY NEEDS TO BE REPLACED ($800+). THEY ALSO SAID THAT IS THE SYSTEM FAILS FURTHER, IT COULD RESULT IN LOSS OF STEERING (DURING DRIVING!). I HAVE SEEN A LOT OF COMPLAINTS FOR THE SAME EXACT ISSUE. MY VEHICLE HAS 37,000 MILES ON IT (WARRANTY EXPIRED AT 36,000). THIS IS DEFINITIVELY A RECALL ISSUE. STEERING SYSTEMS SHOULD NOT NEED REPLACEMENT IN LESS THAN 3 YEARS AND 37,000 MILES. *TR
PROBLEMS WITH THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM. HAVE REFILLED SEVERAL TIMES AND NOW IS HAVING EXTENSIVE LEAKING. PROBLEM IS WITH THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM. *TR
THE CRUISE CONTROL WILL COME ON BY ITSELF AND DROP OUT ON AN INTERMITTENT BASIS. THE DROP OUT IS ANNOYING, BUT THE SELF APPLY OF THE CRUISE CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO SPEED UP ALSO INTERMITTENTLY. THERE HAS BEEN A FEW CLOSE CALLS. TAKEN TO THE DEALER, AND THEY HAVE FOUND NO PROBLEM. *TR
STEERING RACK AND PINION SYSTEM FAILED. BEGAN LEAK NG PROFUSELY. CHRYSLER WOULD NOT OFFER ASSISTANCE AS PROBLEM WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. SECOND FAILURE - UNIT HAD BETWEEN REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY ON 30 MAR 06. *TR
I STARTED TO HEAR A LOW ROAR (NOT UNLIKE TURNING THE STARTER WHILE THE CAR IS RUNNING) COMING OUT OF THE RIGHT FRONT OF THE VAN, USUALLY UPON STARTING, USUALLY INTERMITTENT, BUT SOMETIMES BRIEFLY WHILE DRIVING OR TURNING, AND SOMETIMES WHEN STARTING THE VAN, THE NOISE WOULD CONTINUE UNTIL THE ENGINE WAS SHUT OFF. TOOK IT TO THE MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED IT AS A RACK AND PINION FAILURE, WITH FLUID LEAKING OUT, WHICH HE SAYS THEY WOULD NOT USUALLY SEE IN THIS "YOUNG" A VEHICLE. MILEAGE = 53,000. HE WANTED ME TO CALL THE DEALER TO SEE IF THEY KNEW ABOUT THE PROBLEM, OR IF THE REPAIR WOULD BE COVERED. THE DEALER CLAIMED TO HAVE NO KNOWLEDGE OF THIS ISSUE AT ALL. THIS VAN IS NOT EVEN FOUR YEARS OLD, HAS NOT BEEN IN ANY ACCIDENT OR DRIVEN ABUSIVELY, AND THIS KIND OF A FAILURE MUST INDICATE A DEFECT IN DESIGN OR MATERIALS. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 51,484.
GRINDING/WHINING SOUND FROM THE FRONT END. STEERING RACK IS FAILING WITH ONLY 22K ON THE VEHICLE BUT 4 MONTHS OUT OF WARRANTY. *TR
WHILE VISITING A RELATIVE MY 2005 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY WAS PARKED ON A DRIVEWAY THAT SLOPES DOWN A BIT. WHILE LOADING THE CAR AND IN A MOMENT OF INADVERTENCE, MY 2 YEAR OLD SON WAS ABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR OF MY VEHICLE AND CLIMB BEHIND THE WHEEL AND SHIFT THE CAR FROM 'PARK' INTO A DIFFERENT GEAR. MY SON WAS ABLE TO DO THIS WITHOUT THE KEYS IN THE IGNITION AND (OBVIOUSLY) HE WAS UNABLE TO REACH ANY PEDALS. THE RESULT WAS THAT THE VEHICLE STARTED MOVING DOWN THE DRIVEWAY, CROSSED A 2 LANE STREET AND STRUCK THE SIDE CURB AND A MAILBOX ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE STREET CAUSING DAMAGE TO MY CAR AND THE MAILBOX THAT WAS TAKEN DOWN BY THE CAR. AFTER THIS INCIDENT I CALLED CHRYSLER AND INFORMED THEM ABOUT THIS ACCIDENT AND THAT IN MY OPINION THE SHIFT-BRAKE-INTERLOCK SYSTEM SHOULD HAVE PREVENTED THIS ACCIDENT. THE SHIFT-BRAKE-INTERLOCK SYSTEM IS AN IMPORTANT SAFETY FEATURE THAT PREVENTS ANYONE FROM SHIFTING GEARS WITHOUT SUPPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL. CHRYSLER DID ASSIGN AN INVESTIGATOR WHO INSPECTED MY CAR AT A LOCAL CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP. THEY DECLINED MY COMPLAINT 'THE INSPECTION REVEALED THAT THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE OF A MALFUNCTION WHICH WOULD CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO MOVE ITSELF.' AS OF TODAY, THE VEHICLE STILL HAS THE ISSUE WITH THE SHIFT-BRAKE-INTERLOCK SYSTEM AND MYSELF AM ABLE TO EASILY MOVE THIS CAR FROM 'PARK' TO 'NEUTRAL' OR ANY OTHER POSITION WITHOUT KEYS IN THE IGNITION AND/OR WITHOUT SUPPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL. I FEEL THAT CHRYSLER DID NOT INVESTIGATE MY COMPLAINT THOROUGHLY AND FEAR THAT I'M PERHAPS NOT THE ONLY PERSON THAT IS AFFECTED BY THIS PROBLEM. I'M THE FIRST OWNER OF THIS VEHICLE, THIS CAR WAS NEVER IN AN ACCIDENT AND HAS BEEN DRIVEN VERY CAREFULLY SO I'M VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THIS SAFETY HAZARD AND THE DANGERS THAT THIS COULD BRING TO OTHER PARENTS/FAMILIES WHO PERHAPS ARE DRIVING AROUND WITHOUT THE KNOWLEDGE THAT THIS IMPORTANT SAFETY FEATURE DOES NOT FUNCTION CORRECT ON THEIR TOWN AND COUNTRY. *TR

THE CONTACT ASSUMED THAT BECAUSE THE PARTS WERE IN SUCH HIGH DEMAND, MANY OTHER VEHICLES MUST HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME FAILURE. CHRYSLER STATED THAT NOTHING COULD BE DONE AND REFERRED HER TO NHTSA. THE 2005 CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY MADE A WHIRRING NOISE AT START UP AND LASTED FOR SEVERAL MINUTES UNTIL THE VEHICLE WARMED UP. ASKED DEALER SERVICE REP TO CHECK OUT THE NOISE. I WAS TOLD THERE WAS A STEERING FLUID LEAK IN THE RACK COMPONENT OF THE RACK (STEERING COMPONENT) AND IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT ABOUT $800. SERVICE REP STATED THAT IT WAS A COMMON PROBLEM BUT THERE WAS NO RECALL ON THE PART. SERVICE REP SAID THAT IF IT WAS NOT FIXED IT COULD RESULT IN A STEERING FAILURE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I AUTHORIZED THE DEALER TO COMPLETE THE WORK. THIS HAS BEEN A ONE OWNER VEHICLE WITH REGULAR SERVICE AND ONLY ABOUT 70,000 MILES. *TR
RACK & PINION STEERING ASSEMBLY FAILURE. SEALS IN THE ASSEMBLY HAVE FAILED AND POWER STEERING FLUID HAS LEAKED OUT. WAS TOLD BY REPAIR SHOP THAT IT ALL THE FLUID DRAINS OUT THE STEERING SYSTEM COULD FREEZE UP CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. THE PROBLEM WAS ONLY DISCOVERED DURING A STATE INSPECTION, SO WAS LUCKY THAT IT WAS CAUGHT, BEFORE IT WAS COMPLETELY EMPTY. I WAS TOLD THE WHOLE ASSEMBLY WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. I HAVE READ THAT THIS IS A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE AND HAS HAPPENED TO THOUSANDS OF THESE VEHICLES. *TR

I FINALLY AND RELUCTANTLY RETURNED TO THE CHRYSLER DEALER TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT AND WAS TOLD THAT THE STEERING RACK HAS A LEAK AND THAT AND THE POWER STEERING PUMP HAD TO BE REPLACED. OF COURSE MY 3/36 WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED IN SEPTEMBER 07 AND I ONLY HAVE 39000 MILES ON THE VAN. I FEEL THIS IS A HUGE PROBLEM WITH THESE VANS AND THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL AND WE SHOULD BE REIMBURSED FOR OUR EXPENSES WHICH IN MY CASE COST ME $1350! WE PURCHASED A USED 2005 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY MAR 2008. DURING THE TEST DRIVE WE NOTED A WHIRLING SOUND UPON ACCELERATION. WE WERE TOLD THAT THROUGH THEIR 90 DAY WARRANTY WE CAN HAVE IT CHECKED OUT (THE CAR WS PURCHASED FROM A HONDA DEALER) AFTER PURCHASED WE TOOK THE VAN TO A CHRYSLER DEALER TO BE INSPECTED, SEVERAL PROBLEMS WERE FOUND INCLUDING A LEAK IN THE STEERING RACK (SOURCE OF NOISE). THE ENTIRE STEERING RACK WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $840. THE PART IS ON BACK ORDER DUE TO THE ENORMOUS AMOUNT OF VANS THAT NEED THIS PART REPLACED. THE AIRBAG WARNING LAMP CAME ON INTERMITTENTLY AT FIRST OVER THE COURSE OF A WEEK OR SO THEN IT STAYED ON SOLID. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER FOR SERVICE WHILE UNDER WARRANTY AND THEY REPLACED THE RIGHT FRONT AIRBAG SENSOR WITHOUT COST UNDER WARRANTY WHICH FIXED THE PROBLEM. THE REASON I'M FILING THIS COMPLAINT IS BECAUSE THE SENSOR RECALL (ID # 07V192000) ONLY COVERS VEHICLES WITH BUILD DATES BETWEEN APR 24, 2003 AND FEB 2, 2005. ON MARCH 16, 2008 I WAS HIT HEAD ON IN MY MINIVAN BY SOMEONE DRIVING AN SUV THAT WAS TRAVELING APROX. 55 MPH ON A 2 LANE HWY. I BELIEVE THAT UPON IMPACT ALL OF THE AIRBAGS IN MY MINIVAN DEPLOYED INCLUDING THE KNEE AIR BAG THAT IS LOCATED UNDER THE STEERING COLUMN IN MY 2005 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY MINI VAN. MY LOWER LEGS HAVE SUFFERED (WHAT IS MOST LIKELY) PERMANENT PAIN/DAMAGE FROM THE CRUSHING IMPACT OF THE PLASTIC PART OF THE DASH AND THE KNEE AIRBAG. I HAVE NERVE DAMAGE TO THE FRONT OF MY LOWER LEGS AND MY ANKLE AREA. I AM STILL TREATING WITH MEDICATION AND STILL SUFFERING PAIN ON A DAILY BASIS. I HAVE BEEN TO MAYO CLINIC AND STILL CANNOT FIND ANY "FIX" TO THE DAMAGE THAT WAS CAUSED BY THE AIR BAG. I HAVE HAD SURGERY ON BOTH LEGS AND STILL NO RELIEF. DOOR POWER LOCKS CEASED TO OPERATE AFTER ABOUT 9,000 MILES RENDERING THE AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCKS FROM OPERATING WHEN VEHICLE REACHES 15 MPH WHICH IS A SAFETY ITEM. THE FAILURE WAS FIXED BY A SOFTWARE UPDATE DOWNLOADED FROM THE MAIN CHRYSLER FACTORY. HOWEVER, THE DEALER CHARGED ME FOR THIS SERVICE BECAUSE THE WARRANTY HAD LAPSED. I FEEL THAT THE SOFTWARE HAD A LATENT DEFECT THAT CHRYSLER SHOULD MAKE GOOD AS A RECALL. *TR
2005 CHRYSLER MINI-VAN AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON AND WILL NOT RESET. UPON REVIEW NHTSA HAD CALLED FOR A RECALL DUE TO CORROSION TO SENSORS FROM ROAD SALT. CHRYSLER THEN ISSUED A RECALL, BUT ONLY FOR A LIMITED NUMBER VEHICLES. WE THEN SCHEDULED A VISIT TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY REJECTED THIS VAN AS NOT BEING UNDER RECALL. ARGUED THAT AFTER THE WORSE YEAR FOR SALT USAGE, IN OHIO WOULD THEY AT LEAST LOOK TO SEE IF THE VAN HAD THE "SAME" PROBLEM AS THOSE RECALLED. EXPLAINED IT WAS A TWO PIECES OF THE METAL STARTER GRINDING BUT IT WAS NOT GOING TO HARM ANYTHING. I ASKED FOR THEM TO CHANGE IT UNDER WARRANTY BUT SINCE THEY COULD NOT REPRODUCE IT THE NEXT DAY (SURPRISE) THEY WOULD NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THAT I HAD A PROBLEM. SPOKE TO CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY TOOK THE DEALERS WORD. I THEN SAW THE ENTRY ON THIS SITE OF THE SAME PROBLEM. NOW I HAVE TO CHASE THE PROBLEM AND TAKE IT TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP ETC. WE BOUGHT OUR 05 CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY IN FEB OF '08. THE DEALERSHIP HAD TO FINISH DETAILING IT, SO THE NEXT DAY THEY DELIVERED IT TO ME AT WORK. THAT DAY MY WIFE CAME AND PICKED THE VAN UP FROM ME AND DROVE THOUGH TOWN. SHE IMMEDIATELY NOTICED ALL THE DASH LIGHTS, AIR BAG, CHECK ENGINE ETC, FLICKERING ON THE DASH. WHEN THE LIGHTS WOULD FLICKER, THE RADIO ALSO CUT OUT AND THE SEATBELT REMINDER "DING" WOULD SOUND. SHE TOOK IT STRAIGHT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHO THEN PUT A CODE SCANNER ON IT, AND SAID IT WAS OKAY TO DRIVE, WE NEEDED TO BRING IT BACK THE NEXT DAY WHEN THEY HAD TIME. LONG STORY SHORT, THE FIRST THING THEY REPLACED WAS THE BATTERY AND SAID IT WAS FIXED. ABOUT A WEEK LATER THE NEW BATTERY COMPLETELY DIED, THE VAN WOULD NOT START UNLESS IT WAS JUMPED, WE EVEN PUT A BATTERY CHARGER ON IT FOR 8HRS. TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP, THIS TIME THEY REPLACED THE BATTERY AND THE BODY CONTROL MODULE. AGAIN, WE WERE TOLD IT WAS FIXED. FROM THE MOMENT WE PICKED IT UP FROM DEALERSHIP THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYED ON. WE CALLED THE DEALERSHIP, THEY SAID BRING IT BACK TOMORROW. WE WENT THE NEXT DAY AND AGAIN THEY SAID BRING IT BACK TOMORROW. FINALLY WHEN THEY "HAD TIME" 2 DAYS LATER, WE TOOK THE VAN BACK UP. AFTER 45MIN OR SO THEY SAID THE EGR VALVE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, IT WAS STUCK OPEN ALLOWING TOO MUCH OXYGEN INTO THE FUEL. BUT THIS TIME THEY WERE NOT GOING TO PAY TO FIX IT. MIND YOU HAD ONLY HAD THE VAN FOR NOT EVEN 30 DAYS. AFTER A LOT OF FIGHTING WITH BOTH THE SERVICE AND THE SALES DEPT, THEY DID FIX AND WE DIDN'T HAVE TO PAY FOR IT. HERE WE ARE A MONTH AND A HALF LATER, AND ITS DOING THE SAME THING AGAIN! NOW WHAT, THEY FOUGHT US LAST TIME TO FIX IT... *TR

THE DEALERSHIP ALSO TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS ALOT OF PROBLEMS WITH THE RACK AND PINION IN MY YEAR VAN, AND THAT THERE IS A 6 MONTH BACK ORDER ON THE RACK AND PINION, THE NEW ONES HAVE BEEN REDESIGNED TO STOP THE PROBLEM. I CONTACTED CHRYSLER ABOUT THIS THEY WOULD ONLY STATE THAT IT WAS MY PROBLEM, AND THEY WOULD NOT DISCUSS ANYTHING BUT MY VEHICLE,OR ABOUT THE BACK ORDER OF THE RACK AND PINION.
