I HAVE A 2005 CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY WHICH I PURCHASED NEW. IN THE FOLLOWING MONTHS THE AIRBAG LIGHT HAS COME ON: FEBRUARY 05, MAY 06, NOVEMBER 06, DECEMBER 06, JAN 07, FEBRUARY 07, MARCH 07, THE LIGHT HAS STAYED ON FOR 3 MINUTES - 40 MINUTES. I HAVE REPEATEDLY BROUGHT THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER. SOMETIMES IT THROUGHS A CODE ,BUT MOST OFTEN IT DID NOT. AT TIMES THEY HAVE BEEN ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM ,AND SOMETIMES THEY COULD NOT. RECENTLY THEY HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND NO CODES WERE SHOOWN. THE DEALER WAS LOOKING TO CHRYLSER FOR TECH SUPPORT, AND I HAVE BEEN WAITING 6 WEEKS. I HAVE CONTACTED CHRYSLER MAY TIMES, THEY TOLD ME TO DEAL WITH THE DEALER - THERE IS NOTHING THAT CAN BE DONE UNLESS A CODE IS THROWN OR THE PROBLEM IS DUPLICATED. THEY HAVE ALSO TOLD ME THAT WHEN THE LIGHT GOES ON THE AIRBAG WILL NOT WORK.*AK
3/27/2007. 2005 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. CONTACT STATES THAT THE VEHICLE LOST POWER AND THE GEARS COULD NOT BE CHANGED AND THERE WAS NO CONTROL OVER THE GAS OR BRAKES . *MC *JB
AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. DEALER SAYS WATER GETS IN THE HARNESS, BUT THERE IS NO RECALL, AND I HAVE TO PAY FOR IT.*AK
TL*- THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING THEB 2005 CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY AT 55 MPH THE OIL LIGHT INDICATOR CAME ON. AFTER CHECKING THE OIL LEVEL IT WAS ONE QUART LOW, AND HE REPLACED THE OIL. THE CONTACT PROCEEDED TO DRIVE, AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO MAKE A HAMMERING NOISE. THE CONTACT DROVE THE VEHICLE TO A MEINEKE, AND THE TECHNICIAN DETERMNED THAT THERE WERE ONLY TWO QUARTS OF OIL IN THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER, WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED, STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS IMPROPERLY MAINTAINED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 31,150 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 31,000. *AK
2005 CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY WITH 30000 MILES HAS HAD TO HAVE THE THROTTLE BODY CLEANED 3 TIMES, AT 13.5K, 23.8K AND 30.1K. EACH TIME ACCELERATOR PEDAL BEGAN TO STICK UPON SLOW ACCELERATION. SERVICE SAYS CARBON BUILDUP IS TO BLAME. I USE NAME BRAND GAS, MOSTLY CITY DRIVING. MY 3RD CHRYSLER VAN, NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM. DEALER NOW CONSIDERS THIS 'ROUTINE' MAINTENANCE - AFTER INITIAL TWO CLEANINGS WERE DONE UNDER WARRANTY, HAD TO ARGUE TO GET THIRD TIME COVERED. *JB
TL* - THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE 2005 CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY WP SPECIAL EDITION, HDS NO LOUVERS TO COVER THE RADIATOR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING A ROCK COULD POP UP INTO THE RADIATOR. THIS COULD CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE CONDENSER, AND THAT BUGS AND ALL TYPES OF MATERIAL COULD GET THROUGH TO THE RADIATOR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS AN AFTER MARKET ACCESSORY THAT COULD BE PURCHASED TO GO BEHIND THE BUMPER TO PROTECT THE SECTION BEHIND THE GRILL, BUT THAT THE BUMPER WOULD HAVE TO BE REMOVED TO COVER THE GRILL. *AK
FOLLOW UP ON AN EXISTING OPEN ITEM NHTSA ACTION NUMBER : EA06003 FRONT AIR BAG CRASH SENSOR FAILURE: AIR BAGS:FRONTAL CHRYSLER / TOWN AND COUNTRY 2005 MY AIR BAG LIGHTS WERE BLINKING THE ONE ON THE DASH BOARD AND THE ONE ON THE MIDDLE OF THE CONSOLE. I TOOK IT IN FOR SERVICE AND AFTER 2 DAYS AND $350 (NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY) THE SENSOR WAS REPLACED. THE LIGHTS CONTINUE TO BLINK AND MAKE A TONE WITHIN THE NEXT 24 HOURS. I AM TAKING IT BACK FOR MORE REVIEW BY THE DEALER. *NM
WE HAVE A 2005 TOWN AND COUNTRY MINIVAN THAT WE PURCHASED FROM BRUNSWICK AUTO MART. WE HAVE HAD TO HAVE IT SERVICED TO REPAIR THE AIR BAG SENSORS THREE TIMES IN LESS THAN 45,000 MILES. THERE HAS BEEN NO REASON WHY THE SENSORS SAYS FAILURE. THE BAGS HAVE NOT BEEN DEPLOYED IN AN ACCIDENT OR EVEN INADVERTENTLY BUT A VEHICLE THAT HAS A SAFETY SYSTEM MANDATED BY THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD HAVE TO MEET BETTER QUALIFICATIONS. *JB
THE POWER SLIDING SIDE DOORS BAGAN MAKING GRINDING NOISE ABOUT A YEAR AND A HALF AFTER PURCHASING MY VAN NEW) THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY WER JUST DIRTY. HOWEVER, 1000 MILES AFTER WARANTY THE DRIVER'S SIDE PASSENGER DOOR WILL NO LONGER OPERATE ELECTRONICALLY, STILL FUNCTION MAUNUALLY, EXCEPT IT MUST BE OPENED ENTIRELY OR IT WILL NOT RELATCH. DEALER STATED THAT THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT WAS WRONG, AND WILL COST AT LEAST $150 TO DIAGNOSE.*AK
HAVE OWNED A 2005 CHRYSLER T&C FOR 7 MONTHS SINCE MAY 2006 AND THE BRIDGESTONE TURANZA EL42 TIRES HAVE EXPERIENCED ABNORMAL OUTSIDE EDGE TIRE WEAR AS WELL AS SEVERE ABNORMAL VIBRATION WHEN ACCELERATING. VIBRATION IS FELT IN GAS PEDAL, SEAT AND STEERING WHEEL. HAD TIRES ROTATED/BALANCED/ALIGNMENT CHECK AND 5 SEPARATE SERVICE GARAGES LOOK AT VIBRATION ISSUE BUT NO SOLUTION. CHRYSLER DEALER TOLD ME BACK IN JULY 2006 THEY DID NOT FEEL THE VIBRATION BUT EVERY OTHER PERSON THAT HAS DRIVEN VEHICLE FEELS THE ABNORMAL VIBRATION AND THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. TIRES ALSO HAVE HAD "INDENTATIONS/LINES" IN ALL TIRES SINCE I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE NEW WITH LESS THAN 200 MILES ON IT. I NOW HAVE 8,200 MILES ON VEHICLE AND AM CONCERNED ABOUT REPORTS OF DOZENS OF OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT TIRE FAILURE/BLOW OUT AS VALID REGISTERED COMPLAINTS. I WOULD LIKE TO REPLACE THESE TIRES WITH ANOTHER BRAND BUT NOT AT MY EXPENSE SINCE IT SHOULD BE A TIRE MANUFACTURER SAFETY ISSUE. TIRE SIZE IS 215/65R16 EVEN THOUGH THE PULL DOWN BOX DID NOT LET ME SELECT MY CORRECT SIZE. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED CONSTANTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A SERVICE DEALER, WHO STATED THAT THE CONTACT SHOULD GIVE THE VEHICLE A COUPLE OF DAYS TO SEE IF THE LIGHT RESET, BUT IT DID NOT. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED A SECOND TIME, WHO THEN STATED THE PROBLEM WAS MOST LIKELY DUE TO FAILURE OF THE AIR BAG SENSOR.
STEERING MADE A CLUNKING NOISE AND PULLED TO THE RIGHT. HAD VEHICLE CHECKED THREE TIMES WHILE UNDER WARRANTY AND WAS TOLD THE ALIGNMENT WAS THE ISSUE. ALIGNED AND TIRES BALANCED EACH TIME, BUT PROBLEM CONTINUED. TOOK CAR IN WITH A COPY OF THE NHTSA BULLETIN AND THEY REPLACED RACK & PINION AT MY COST. VEHICLE STEERING IS NOW TIGHT AND PULLING TO RIGHT IS GONE. I DON'T FEEL I SHOULD HAVE HAD TO PAY FOR THIS REPAIR. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND THE SOUND OF METAL ON METAL WAS HEARD RESULTING IN AN EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP WHO REPLACED THE FRONT ROTORS AND PADS.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. THE SLIDING DOOR HAD A SENSOR THAT PREVENTED IT FROM CLOSING WHEN SOMETHING WAS BLOCKING THE DOOR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DOOR NO LONGER RETRACTS WHEN SOMETHING IS OBSTRUCTING THE DOORWAY. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. SHE HAS A VIDEO OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN AND ENGINE SIZE WERE UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 18,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 25,000.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED ON OCCASION, THE TURN SIGNALS FAILED TO WORK PROPERLY. THE INDICATOR WOULD BE ACTIVATED FOR A RIGHT TURN AND THE LEFT TURN INDICATOR LIGHTS WOULD ILLUMINATE WHILE DRIVING 3 MPH. THE SECURITY ALARM HAD ACTIVATED THREE TIMES: ONCE WHILE THE CONTACT WAS OPERATING THE VEHICLE AND TWICE WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, WITHOUT A VISIBLE CAUSE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE SALES/SERVICE DEALER AND THE PROBLEMS COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. THE PROBLEM CONTINUED AFTER THE INSPECTION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED.
TL* - THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAGS LIGHTS CONTINUED TO TURN ON AND OFF. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ON RAINY DAYS THE LIGHT CAME ON AND OFF MORE FREQUENTLY. THIS STARTED IN NOVEMBER 2006. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP ON 1/10/06, AND WAS TOLD THAT A CLOCK SPRING IN THE STEERING COLUMN WAS THE CAUSE OF THE MALFUNCTION. THE MECHANIC DID INFORM ED THE CONTACT THAT THIS COULD CAUSE THE HORN, SIGNAL LIGHTS, AND AIR BAGS TO MALFUNCTION. *AK UPDATED 1/30/2007 - *NM
I HAD TO PAY $115.88 TO QUINN CHRYSLER-DODGE IN BARTLESVILLE, OK TO RECEIVE A SOFTWARE CORRECTION FOR THE "POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE AND TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE" ON MY 2005 CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY MINIVAN . THE DEALER TOLD ME THIS REPAIR WAS A KNOWN PROBLEM AND RESULTED IN THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTING ERRATICALLY. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AND CHRYSLER SHOULD CORRECT THIS PROBLEM WITHOUT CHARGE TO OWNERS. *JB
IN NOVEMBER 2006, I BEGAN HEARING A CLUNKING NOISE FROM THE FRONT END. THE MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT THE TIE ROD END WAS BROKEN. THIS FAILURE WAS AT 32,463 MILES AND COST ME $170. IN MARCH 2007, I HEARD THE SAME CLUNKING NOISE FROM THE FRONT END. THE MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT THE SWAY BAR LINKS, SWAY BAR BUSHINGS, AND STABILIZER CONTROL LINKS WERE BROKEN. THIS FAILURE OCCURRED AT 38,347 MILES AND COST ME $350. I HEARD THE SAME CLUNKING NOISE AGAIN IN MARCH 2008. THE MECHANIC SAID THAT THE SWAY BAR BUSHINGS WERE BROKEN AGAIN. FORTUNATELY, THIS WAS UNDER WARRANTY. THIS FAILURE OCCURRED AT 55,214 MILES. I HEARD THE SAME CLUNKING NOISE AGAIN IN DECEMBER 2008. THE MECHANIC SAID THAT THE SWAY BAR LINKS AND STABILIZER BAR CONTROL LINKS WERE BROKEN AGAIN. THIS FAILURE OCCURRED AT 67,579 MILES AND COST ME $200. AFTER THIS REPAIR WAS MADE, I CONTINUED TO HEAR THE NOISE. THE MECHANIC SAID THAT THE SWAY BAR BUSHINGS ARE BROKEN AGAIN. MY MECHANIC SAYS THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH 2005 TOWN & COUNTRY VEHICLES, AND HE DOES NOT UNDERSTAND WHY CHRYSLER DOES NOT RECALL THESE PARTS. THIS IS A CONTINUOUS PROBLEM THAT IS COSTING ME A LOT OF MONEY. THE VEHICLE ONLY HAS 68,000 MILES ON IT, AND MY MECHANIC SAYS THAT I CAN EXPECT THESE FRONT END PROBLEMS TO CONTINUE. HE ALSO SAYS IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS THESE FAILURES CAN CAUSE LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. I HAVE A YOUNG CHILD WITH ME MOST OF THE TIME, AND I AM WORRIED ABOUT OUR SAFETY. *TR
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED AND THE GAS PEDAL WAS APPLIED, NOTHING OCCURRED, THEN RAPID ACCELERATION OCCURRED SUDDENLY WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT HAD TO SLAM ON THE BRAKES TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT. THIS HAPPENED ON A PERMANENT TO WORSENING BASIS. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED, AND DETERMINED THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALL DUE TO THE VIN. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN EXAMINED. UPDATED 1/29/2007 - THE VEHICLE DID NOT ACCELERATE IMMEDIATELY WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS PRESSED. AS A RESULT THE CONSUMER CONTINUED TO APPLY PRESSURE AT WHICH TIME THE VEHICLE FINALLY ACCELERATED SUDDENLY. THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL ONLY BECOMES STUCK WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A COMPLETE STOP. *NM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. THE MECHANIC COULD NOT REMOVE THE VALVE STEM WHEN ATTEMPTING TO INSTALL NEW TIRES. THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO YEARS OF THE VALVE CORE BREAKING OFF THE VALVE STEM. THE VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT TO THE DEALER AND TWO VALVE STEMS WERE REPLACED. THE NEWER VALVE STEMS, WHICH WERE MADE OF POT METAL, CORRODED AFTER 40,000 MILES. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 55,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,733. *AK
THE DRIVERS SIDE WINDOW SOMETIMES WILL GO UP OR DOWN VERY SLOWLY EVEN PAUSES OR STOPS THEN RESUMES THERE HAVE EVEN BEEN TIMES WHERE THE WINDOW DOES NOT RAISE OR LOWER IT WILL START THEN BECOME FROZEN OR REFUSE TO WORK THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN IT WILL WORK SLOWLY THEN OUT OF THE BLUE, IT WILL SPEED UP AND CLOSE VERY FAST IT IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY IT HAS TO BE AN ELECTRICAL OR MOTOR PROBLEM FOR WINDOW. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE STEERING WHEEL WAS HARD TO TURN. THIS HAD HAPPENED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS AND TWICE THE DEALER HAD REPLACED THE RACK AND PINION HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM PERSISTED.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE'S WINDSHIELD SEAL BECAME UNGLUED ON THE TOP PASSENGER'S SIDE. THE WINDSHIELD HAS NOT BECOME DISLODGED. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN TAKEN TO A SERVICE DEALER.
2005 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY REPEATEDLY STALLS (I.E. COMPLETELY LOSES ENGINE AND ELECTRIC POWER) WHILE IN DRIVE. HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST 7 TIMES AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND ON SURFACE STREETS. JUST HAPPENED THIS MORNING, AFTER HAVING IT AT THE LOCAL DEALER YESTERDAY FOR THIS ISSUE! *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE PROBLEM OCCURRED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS AND EACH TIME THE VEHICLE WAS MANEUVERED OFF THE ROAD AND RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE PROBLEM COULD NOT BE DETECTED.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED UPON DRIVING THE VEHICLE LATE IN THE AFTERNOON, THE INTERIOR PANEL LIGHTS FAILED TO ILLUMINATE PROPERLY UNDER NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO DETERMINED THAT THE INTERIOR INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS WORKED PROPERLY BUT THEY WERE AWARE OF OTHER CONSUMERS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AND SUGGESTED THAT THE NHTSA SHOULD BE CONTACTED TO FILE COMPLAINT ON THIS MATTER. AN ODI ID # OF 10160170 CAN BE USED IN COMPARISON TO THIS ISSUE.
I WAS DRIVING ALONG DURING A RAIN STORM WHEN THE REAR WIPER ON THE HATCH BACK STOPPED WORKING IT WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF A RAIN STORM THAT THE WINDSHIELD WIPER FOR THE REAR HATCHBACK WINDOW FAILED TO WORK PROPERLY DOESN'T WORK AT ALL IT WILL MOVE A FEW INCHES THEN STOPPED AND DOESN'T WORK AT ALL NOW. *JB
2005 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY, HAS BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS FOR SEVERAL MONTHS. IT WAS TAKEN INITIALLY BECAUSE THE CIGARETTE LIGHTER WAS SMOKING AND FROM THERE FUSES WERE BLOWN. THE SECOND ISSUES WAS THE LIGHTS CONSTANTLY FLICKER ON AND OFF, THE RADIO GOES IN AND OUT ALONG WITH THE HEADLIGHTS AND THE INTERNAL LIGHTS WHILE DRIVING. FIRST I WAS TOLD IT WAS THE BATTERY SO I GO AND BUY A BATTERY, THAT DIDN'T WORK. SINCE THEN THEY HAVE CHANGE THE PCM AND THE ALTERNATOR. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO FOUR DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS IN FOUR DIFFERENT CITIES APPROXIMATELY SIX OR SEVEN DIFFERENT TIMES AND MY VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT ONE OF THOSE DEALERSHIPS BECAUSE ON THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 27, 2007 THE VAN JUST TURNS COMPLETELY OFF WHILE IN MOTION IN MORNING TRAFFIC, THE DASH GOES COMPLETELY BLACK AND EVERYTHING IS QUIET. THE VAN KICKS IT BACK ON AND I PRESS ON THE GAS. WHAT A TERRIFYING EXPERIENCE. I PURCHASED THE VAN USED IN MARCH OF 06 AND SINCE THEN I HAVE HAD 3 RECALLS AND THE VAN HAS BEEN AT THE DEALERS MORE THAN I HAVE DRIVEN IT. I AM NOT A SATISFIED CUSTOMER; I AM TERRIFIED TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE. I HAVE CHILDREN AND WE CALL THE CAR CHRISTINE BECAUSE IT IS POSED THE DEALERS CAN NEVER GET THE VEHICLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. WHAT IS GOING ON? CHRYSLER HAS BEEN CONTACTED AND THEY OFFER HARDLY ANY HELP AT ALL. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE STEERING WHEEL VIBRATED. THE DEALERSHIP TURNED THE ROTORS. THE PROBLEM RETURNED NINETEEN MONTHS LATER AND THE ROTORS WERE TURNED A SECOND TIME.
I USED THE POWER SLIDING PASSENGER DOOR WITH REMOTE ON KEY CHAIN AND INTERIOR POWER SLIDING DOOR BUTTONS AND THE PROBLEM IS IT JUST STOPPED WORKING, ONE DAY IT WILL UNLOCK AND LOCK WHEN USING THE BUTTONS BUT WILL NOT CLOSE PROPERLY OR OPEN AUTOMATICALLY OR CLOSE AUTOMATICALLY. WE HAVE ONLY USED THE VEHICLE LESS THAN ONE YEAR WHEN THIS OCCURRED AND THE OTHER SIDE IS FINE BUT THE PASSENGER SIDE DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY. *JB
I HAVE A 2005 TOWN AND COUNTRY THAT IS 14 MONTHS OLD AND HAS 17000 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. THE STEERING WHEEL WAS VIBRATING WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. I TOOK IT IN AND HAD TO PAY FOR NEW BRAKE PADS AND THE ROTORS TO BE REFACED. THE SERVICE ADVISOR INSISTED THAT THIS WAS NORMAL. THEY CHARGED ME $200 FOR THE REPAIRS. *NM
HEADLIGHTS WILL NOT TURN ON BUT DASH LIGHTS WILL. HEAD LIGHTS WILL GO OFF WHILE DRIVING. THIS IS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM THAT REQUIRES REPEATED TURNING ON AND OFF OF THE SWITCH TO GET THEM TO COME BACK ON. THE DEALER SAID THE SWITH CAN BE REPLACED FOR $320.00, AND IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. WHY SHOULD I REPLACE A SWITCH WITH ANOTHER THAT WILL HAVE THE SAME ISSUE? DEALER SHRUGGED SHOULDERS. *TR
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE LURCHED FORWARD WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER WHO DETERMINED THE THROTTLE BODY WAS STICKING. THE DEALER DETERMINED A LUBRICANT WAS NEEDED ON THE THROTTLE BODY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT ALERTED.
MY WIFE PURCHASED A 2005 CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY IN FEBRUARY OF LAST YEAR. IT HAS 17,500 MILES ON IT AND TWO DAYS AGO MY WIFE TOLD ME IT WAS MAKING A HORRIBLE NOISE WHEN SHE APPLIED THE BREAKS. I DROVE THE CAR AND NOTICED THAT THE NOISE AND VIBRATION WAS COMING FROM THE FRONT LEFT DRIVER SIDE. I LOOKED AT THE ROTOR AND NOTICED LARGE ABRASIONS THAT THE CALIPER HAD MADE WHERE IT WAS APPARENTLY FAILING TO RELEASE FROM THE ROTOR. THE OTHER SIDE HAD NO SUCH MARKINGS. I TOOK IT INTO A LOCAL PLACE AROUND THE CORNER TO GET AN ESTIMATE. THE MECHANIC LOOKED AT THE ODOMETER AND SAID, "YOU NEED TO TAKE THIS TO THE DEALER. THIS IS NOT NORMAL WEAR. YOU HAVE ONE SIDE THAT IS MAYBE 65-70% WARN AND THE OTHER SIDE WHICH IS COMPLETELY GONE AND THE CALIPER IS LOCKING ONTO THE ROTOR CAUSING THESE SCARING." HE WENT ON TO TELL ME THAT HE KNEW OF THREE OTHER PEOPLE WHO HAD SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKES ON NEW T&CS. I THEN MADE THE TRIP (SLOWLY) TO THE CLOSEST DEALERSHIP WHOM HAD INFORMED ME ON THE PHONE THAT THEY "HAD NEVER HEARD OF A FRONT BRAKE PROBLEM ON THE T&C THAT WASN'T FROM JUST NORMAL WEAR". THEY TOLD ME THAT THEIR MASTER BRAKE TECHNICIAN LOOKED AT IT AND SAID THAT IT WAS NORMAL BECAUSE MY LEFT SIDE IS CLOSER TO THE MASTER CYLINDER. I ASKED THEM TO EXPLAIN HOW ONE SIDE COULD BE COMPLETELY BURNING INTO THE ROTOR WHILE THE OTHER SIDE WAS ONLY 65-70% WORN. I WAS TOLD IT WAS NORMAL WEAR & TEAR OVER AND OVER AGAIN, ALONG WITH THE FACT THAT THEY HAD A FRONT BRAKE KIT SPECIAL FOR ONLY $299. I HAVE ONE MECHANIC WHO WAS HONEST ENOUGH TO TELL ME THAT HE FELT THERE WAS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE BRAKES THAT HAD CAUSED ONE SIDE TO DISINTEGRATE INSTEAD OF JUST FIXING IT AND CHARGING ME FOR IT, AND ANOTHER "MASTER TECHNICIAN" TELLING ME IT IS NORMAL WEAR, HERE IS A $299 BRAKE KIT QUICK FIX. IF CHRYSLER CAN HONESTLY TELL ME THAT THEIR BRAKE PADS ARE SUPPOSED TO WEAR OUT IN 17-20K MILES AND THAT THE FACT THAT THE CALIPER LOCKED UP IS NORMAL THEN I AM OPENING A BRAKE REPAIR SHOP. *NM

PURCHASED A 2005 JEEP UNLIMITED MAY 2005. AUGUST 2006 NOTICED A STEERING VIBRATION AT SPEEDS OF 53-55 MPH. DEALER SAID THEY TIGHTENED THE STABILIZER ARM AND THAT THE VIBRATION PROBLEM WAS DUE TO TIRE CUPPING. THEY IMMEDIATELY WENT INTO RHETORIC ABOUT PROPER TIRE ROTATION AND SENT ME ON MY WAY. I TOOK THE JEEP TO A DIFFERENT MECHANIC THAT SAID THE RACK AND PINION JOINT WAS LEAKING AND THE TIRE PROBLEM WAS DO TO POOR ALIGNMENT. I CONTACTED THE DEALER SERVICE MANAGER AND RELAYED THE NEW INFORMATION. SHE SAID THAT CHRYSLER RECOMMENDS FRONT END ALIGNMENT EVERY 12000 MILES. THE JEEP HAS 15000 MILE CURRENTLY. THE JEEP HAS NEVER BEEN OFF ROAD AND HAS ONLY BEEN USED TO AS FROM WORK. *NM

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SENSOR CONTROL MODULE FOR THE FRONT AIR BAGS WAS NOT WORKING AND THE SENSOR LIGHT TURNED ON WARNING OF A AIRBAG MALFUNCTION. ALSO, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT BELT WAS NOT TIGHTENING AS IT SHOULD. THE CONTACT REPLACED THE FRONT CRASH SENSORS, AND THE SEAT BELT RETRACTOR. 2005 TOWN & COUNTRY: ON 7/16/06, MY HUSBAND, SON, AND I WERE DRIVING FROM OUR HOUSE AND HEARD A LOUD CLUNKING NOISE AS WE TURNED THE CORNER. IT STOPPED, SO WE PROCEEDED WITH OUR DAILY ERRANDS. AFTER SEVERAL HOURS ON THE ROAD, WE WERE RETURNING HOME, TURNED THE CORNER, AND HEARD THE SAME NOISE. THIS TIME SOMETHING SNAPPED. THE VAN WAS STILL RUNNING, BUT IT WOULD NOT MOVE FORWARDS OR BACKWARDS, OR STAY IN A PARKED POSITION. MY HUSBAND THEN PUT THE CAR IN "NEUTRAL" AND PUSHED IT TO THE CURB. LUCKILY, WE WERE WITHIN A MILE OF OUR HOUSE, SO WE WERE ABLE TO WALK HOME. WE HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO CROWN CHRYSLER DODGE IN GREENSBORO, NC (THE PLACE WHERE WE PURCHASED IT) AND LEFT THE KEYS ALONG WITH AN EXPLANATION IN THE DROP BOX. WHEN THE TECHNICIAN CONTACTED MY HUSBAND ON 7/17/06, HE TOLD HIM THAT THE AXLE HAD BROKEN! THANK GOODNESS WE WERE GOING AT A VERY SLOW SPEED WHEN IT HAPPENED. IF IT COME APART DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT 70 MPH, WE COULD HAVE EASILY BEEN KILLED! THE DEALERSHIP SAID IT WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY (WE'VE HAD THE CAR ONLY 9 MONTHS) AND MADE THE NECESSARY REPAIR. HOWEVER, I FEEL IT NECESSARY TO REPORT THIS INCIDENT, IN THE EVENT THAT THIS HAPPEN TO SOMEONE ELSE. I AM THE OWNER OF A 2005 TOWN AND COUNTRY VAN AND PREVIOUSLY OWNED A 1998 T&C. BRAKES AND ROTORS JUST HAD TO BE REPLACED AT 26,000 AFTER HEARING A HORRIBLE GRINDING NOISE AND SHUTTERING WHILE BRAKING ON HILLS. NOVEMBER COLD MORNING VAN BACK BRAKE DRIVER SIDE LOCKED UP MOVED VAN BACK AND FORWARD WHEEL FREED UP. DECEMBER ON COLD MORNING BACK BRAKE LOCKED UP. AGAIN MOVED VAN BACK AND FORWARD WHEEL FREED UP. JUNE 9 2006 VAN WENT INTO A 30 MPH CURVE BRAKES WERE APPLIED BUT VAN SPEED INCREASED SENDING VAN INTO SPIN AND RAN INTO TREES. VAN DID 360 DEGREE SPIN AND STOPPED THEN AIRBAGS DEPLOYED AFTER VAN STOPPED. INJURIES WERE A BROKEN LEFT WRIST AND BROKEN BREAST BONE A BROKEN NECK AT FIRST VERTEBRAE AND BROKEN MIDDLE BACK BONE. MANY BRUISES ON BREAST AND WAIST AND HEAD AND DRIVER AND BRUISED LEGS FROM AIRBAG. VAN WAS TOTALED. *JB

VEHICLE HAS LESS THEN 50,000 MILES. 3.)REPLACE BOTH UPPER AND LOWER CONTROL ARMS,(THEY ARE ONE PART SO REGARDLESS OF WHICH FAILS, BOTH HAVE TO BE REPLACED DOUBLING THE COST TO ME). PARTS ARE AVAILABLE. AFTER REVIEWING MANY ENTRIES ON LINE FROM OTHER OWNERS OF THIS VEHICLE, THIS SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM THAT IS ENDEMIC TO THE MODEL. CHRYSLER REFUSES TO ASSIST WITH THE SERVICE, STATING THAT THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY. ACCORDING TO MY REPAIR TECH, THIS IS NOT A PROBLEM THAT SHOULD BE LEFT UN-ATTENDED AND COULD CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT AT ANY SPEED. *JB
