TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, THE ABS INDICATOR WOULD FLASH AND FAIL TO TURN OFF ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE BRAKING SYSTEM HAS NOT FAILED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FUSE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND THEY REPAIRED THE VEHICLE. A COUPLE OF WEEKS LATER, WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AGAIN AND FAILED TO DIM. THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO THE DEALER, BUT THEY FOUND NO FAILURES. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE ILLUMINATION OF THE ABS INDICATOR DID NOT NECESSARILY MEAN THAT A FAILURE WAS OCCURRING. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CONTACT IS IN THE PROCESS OF NOTIFYING THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 42,000.
CAR ACCIDENT WHICH SEVERELY DAMAGED THE FRONT END OF MY 2005 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY WHERE THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. *NM
I WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONT END COLLISION AN THE AIR BAG FAILED TO INFLATE ON MY 2005 CHRYSLER MINI VAN. *NM
UNDER BODY SPARE TIRE CABLE SYSTEM. THE VAN HAD A FLAT TIRE, I LET THE TIRE DOWN AND REPLACED IT. WENT TO RETURN CABLE AND TIRE HOLDER BACK UP AND IT WOULD NOT CRANK UP ALL THE WAY, THERE BY LEAVING THE SPARE TIRE HOLDER STILL HANGING DOWN ALMOST TOUCHING THE GROUND. I TIED IT UP TO KEEP FROM HANGING DOWN AND TOOK THE VAN IN TO HAVE THE TIRE FIXED, TIRE SHOP TIRED TO PUT SPARE TIRE , IT WOULD NOT GO UP ALL THE WAY THAT TIME EITHER. I THEN CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY STATED IT WAS STRIPPED AND THAT IT WAS A POOR DESIGN BY CHRYSLER AND THEY HAD REPLACED OTHERS TOO. STATED THAT IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND WE HAD TO PAY @$144.61 TO HAVE IT REPLACED. THE ITEM IS CALLED A SPARE TIRE LOCK WINCH ASSEMBLY. *JB
2005 CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE AIR BAG SYSTEM INVOLVING THE RESTRAINT SYSTEM AND CORRODED AIR BAG SENSOR CONNECTORS. *NJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED CONSTANTLY. THE DEALER REPLACED THE FRONT IMPACT SENSORS, WIRING AND SEAT BELT TENSIONERS, BUT THE AIR BAG LIGHT CONTINUED TO ILLUMINATE. *JB
RIGHT FRONT BRAKE PAD WORN TO METAL AT 26,000 MILES WHILE THE LEFT FRONT HAD 50% LIFE. CHRYSLER REFUSED TO COVER AS A WARRANTY ITEM. SERVICE MANAGER CLAIMS THIS WEAR PATTERN IS NORMAL. *JB
I HAVE A CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY LX 2005, UNFORTUNATELY I HAD AN ACCIDENT, I RECEIVED A LATERAL IMPACT FROM A CAR THAT PASSED A RED LIGHT AND WE WERE PROJECTED TO THE OPPOSITE CORNER WHERE WE FINALLY STOPPED BECAUSE WE CRASHED AGAINST A POLE THAT WAS OVER THE SIDEWALK. MY CONCERN IS THAT EVEN THOUGH WE HAD A FRONTAL IMPACT, AIR BAGS DID NOT OPEN (WE BROKE THE POLE). THE ADVERTISING FROM CHRYSLER SAYS THAT MINIVANS SCORED THE 5 STARS FROM NHTSA. I DO NOT FEEL SECURE ANY MORE IN THAT VEHICLE AND I WAS WONDERING IF THERE IS A WARRANTY AGAINST AIR BAGS FAILURES; WHAT CAN I DO? I DO NOT WANT THAT MINIVAN ANYMORE; I DO NOT FEEL THAT MY FAMILY COULD BE SAFE IN CASE OF ACCIDENT. *JB
2005 T & C LIMITED - 16K MILES....NO SIGNS OF TROUBLE UNTIL LAST WEEK, WHEN AN OBVIOUS GRINDING NOISE BECAME APPARENT IN THE RIGHT FRONT. CHECKED THE RIGHT FRONT ROTOR, AND ABNORMAL GROOVING AND GOUGING WAS EVIDENT - HOWEVER, LEFT FRONT ROTOR LOOKED FINE, AND HADN'T NOTICED ANY NOISE EMANATING FROM THERE. LED ME TO BELIEVE THERE PROBABLY WAS SOME SORT OF DESIGN DEFECT WITH THE RIGHT FRONT BRAKE SYSTEM. LONG STORY SHORT - DEALER SAYS "METAL ON METAL" BOTH FRONT BRAKES - NEED TO RESURFACE ROTORS AND REPLACE BRAKE PADS, PLUS BLEED THE BRAKE FLUID, TO THE TUNE OF $360 - WARRANTY WON'T COVER, AS BRAKES ONLY COVERED TO 12K MILES. MY 2002 T & C DIDN'T NEED ANY KIND OF BRAKE SERVICE UP TO 40K WHEN WE TRADED IT IN. FRIEND WHO HAD SAME MAKE/MODEL MINIVAN (2005 T & C) HAD TO REPLACE BRAKES AT 20K. ONE SERVICE MANAGER IN SMALL TOWN WISCONSIN SAID "I HAVEN'T HAD TO REPLACE BRAKES PRIOR TO 35K IN MY FIFTEEN YEARS AS A MECHANIC." MY SERVICE MANAGER SAID 2005/2006 MODEL YEAR T & C'S COMING BACK PREMATURELY WITH BRAKE ISSUES. OBVIOUSLY, SOMETHING WAS CHANGED IN THE HYDRAULIC SYSTEM/BRAKE SYSTEM (DOWNGRADE IN PARTS TO CUT COSTS?) THAT HAS RESULTED IN PREMATURE WEAR AND TEAR ON THE BRAKES. ALSO, WE HAD NO WARNING WHATSOEVER THAT THE BRAKES WERE WEARING DOWN - NO SQUEALING...NOTHING. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE! *JB
AT 24K MILES MY WIFES 2005 TOWN AND COUNTRY VAN WAS MAKING A LOUD GRINDING NOISE FROM THE FRONT RIGHT WHEEL. THE PAD WAS DIGGING INTO THE ROTOR. WHEN I TOOK THE VAN TO THE DEALER I HEARD WHAT I EXPECTED. THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME THIS WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY, PADS AND ROTOR ARE WEAR ITEMS. HE SAID MY WIFE MUST BE HARD ON THE BRAKES. I TOLD HIM SHE IS THE SAME DRIVER WHO DROVE A 1996 FORD WINDSTAR VAN, AND THE FIRST SET OF PADS WERE REPLACED AT 52K MILES. MY SECOND COMPLAINT WAS THE AMOUNT OF BRAKE DUST ON THE WHEELS. THE SOLUTION WAS EASY. I PURCHASED A TWO NEW DOMESTIC FRONT ROTORS AND REPLACED THE PADS BOTH FRONT AND REAR WITH AKEBONO CERAMIC PADS. THE VAN HAS 40K MILES WITH NO MORE BRAKE PROBLEMS AND THE BRAKE DUST IS GONE. I QUESTION THE QUALITY OF THE BRAKE PADS CHRYSLER IS PUTTING ON THIS VEHICLE. UPDATED 01-14-08. *KB UPDATED 12/12/07
THE BRAKE FLUID IN THE CONSUMER'S 2005 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY WAS CONTAMINATED. *TS WHILE DRIVING THE BRAKES LOCKED UP. THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED AT THE DEALER AND 5 DAYS LATER THE BRAKES LOCKED UP AGAIN. THE DEALER BELIEVES THE INCIDENTS WERE CAUSED BY CONTAMINATED BRAKE FLUID. THE CONSUMER BELIEVES THE FLUID WAS CONTAMINATED WHEN IT CAME FROM THE FACTORY BECAUSE NO BRAKE SERVICE HAD BEEN DONE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS LEASED. *NM
I DROVE TO WORK @ 8:30 AM AND PARKED MY CAR BETWEEN TWO OTHER CARS. WITHIN AN HOUR MY REAR SIDE VENT WINDOW BLEW OUT. THE LITTLE TINY GLASS PIECES BLEW OVER 20 FEET ONTO OTHER CARS. I DID CALL THE POLICE THINKING IT VERY UNUSUAL. THE OFFICER THOUGHT IT WAS VERY STRANGE NOT TO HAVE MUCH GLASS IN THE VEHICLE. THE OFFICER ASSURED ME THAT IT HAD NOT BEEN BROKEN INTO. I CALLED THE CHRYSLER DEALER THAT I HAD PURCHASED THE CAR FROM. THEY HAD ME TAPE UP THE WINDOW WITH PLASTIC AND DRIVE TO THE GLASS REPAIR SHOP. I WAS LUCKY THAT THE CAR DEALER FOOTED THE BILL. THIS IN MY OPINION WAS NO ACCIDENT. THE WINDOW SIMPLY BLEW OUT. LUCKILY, I HAD DROPPED ALL THE CHILDREN OFF AT SCHOOL THAT MORNING. (MY DAY FOR CARPOOL) *JB
RE: 2005 CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY (TOURING MODEL) -- ON 4/27/06 I ENTERED UNIONTOWN, PA VIA US RT. 40--- A STEEP GRADE WHICH I HAVE TRAVELED FREQUENTLY IN THE LAST 20 YEARS USING MANY VEHICLES INCLUDING A FULLY LOADED G-20 CHEVY PASSENGER VAN (3/4 TON), AS WELL AS OTHER CHRYSLER MINI-VANS---- ALL PREVIOUSLY WITHOUT INCIDENT. THIS HOWEVER WAS THE FIRST TIME I TRAVELED THAT ROUTE WITH MY NEW 2005 TOWN & COUNTRY --- AND MIDWAY DOWN THE MOUNTAIN, THE BRAKES STARTED TO FEEL "SPONGY" AND I COULD SMELL BURNING BRAKE PADS (WHICH AT FIRST I ATTRIBUTED TO A PRECEDING TRUCK) --- HOWEVER, ON REACHING THE BOTTOM OF THE MOUNTAIN AND THE STOP LIGHT IN HOPWOOD, THE BRAKES FELT QUITE MARGINAL, AND I HAD TO PRESS HARD TO GET THE VAN STOPPED. I PULLED OFF THE ROAD AND ALL FOUR WHEELS WERE SMOKING!! AND VERY HOT TO THE TOUCH. THE NEXT MORNING (PRIOR TO UNLOADING) I HAD THE VAN WEIGHED. (LOADED WEIGHT = 5560 LB. GVW ---- WHICH IS BELOW RATED CAPACITY FOR THIS VEHICLE). THEN I TOOK THE VAN TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THE BRAKES INSPECTED.... THEY FOUND NO PROBLEM..... BUT I AM STILL HAVING 'PULSATION AND SPONGY' BRAKES WHEN TRAVELING ANY STEEP GRADES ----- NEVER A PROBLEM WITH PREVIOUS MINI-VANS. *NM
I USE CHRYSLER'S TOWN AND COUNTRY VAN LIMITED EDITION (YEAR 2005). AS I WAS DRIVING , SUDDENLY THE VEHICLE STOPPED RESPONDING TO MY ACCELERATOR. EVEN I PRESS HARD VEHICLE DOES NOT PICKUP THE SPEED. I TRIED APPLY THE BREAKS AND BREAKS DID NOT RESPOND. SO I HAVE PULLED VEHICLE ASIDE AND PUT IT IN PARKING GEAR (USING THE GEAR SHIFT ROD) TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A SUDDEN STOP WITH A JERK. THEN I SWITCHED OFF THE ENGINE. AFTER THAT ENGINE WOULD NOT START. HAPPENING THIS ON THE ROAD IS DANGEROUS. I HAD TO DO ALL MY CONTROLS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SPEEDING TRAFFIC. I ALSO HEARD OF SIMILAR INCIDENTS ABOUT THIS VEHICLE. REQUEST YOU TO EVALUATE THIS VEHICLE TO SAVE SOME LIVES ON THE ROAD. THIS PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED AS FAILURE OF FUEL PUMP AND SERVICE CENTER REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE STALLED TWICE WITHOUT WARNING WHILE TRAVELING 25 MPH. AFTER WAITING A FEW MINUTES, THE VEHICLE RESTARTED BOTH TIMES. THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THAT THE TSD NEEDED TO BE REPROGRAMMED. THE VEHICLE IS AWAITING REPAIRS. IN ADDITION THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS ILLUMINATE INTERMITTENTLY. THE DEALERSHIP IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND RECOMMENDED REPLACING SOME TYPE OF MODULE.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED ALL THE GAUGES ON THE DASH FAIL TO WORK INTERMITTENTLY. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. ALSO, THE SLIDING DOOR SENSOR FAILED TO STOP THE DOOR WHEN IT COMES INTO CONTACT WITH AN OBSTRUCTION. THE DEALER INDICATED THE DOORS OPERATED AS DESIGNED.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE AIRBAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THE CONTROL MODULE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE THE POWER CONTROL WAS PRESSED FOR THE AUTOMATIC SLIDING DOOR, IT OPENED AND CLOSED ONTO A PASSENGER'S LEG UPON EXITING THE VEHICLE RESULTING IN MINOR INJURIES. THE AUTOMATIC SLIDING DOOR HAD A PREVIOUS HISTORY OF INTERMITTENTLY OPENING AND CLOSING WHEN THE POWER CONTROL PANEL WAS PRESSED. ALTHOUGH THE VEHICLE WAS SEEN BY A DEALER, THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM.
CURRENTLY THIS VEHICLE HAS APPROX. 18,000 MILES. HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER 4 TIMES WITH A 5TH VISIT COMING SOON. CHRYSLER SHOULD GIVE AWAY COMPLEMENTARY COTS AND PILLOWS TO NEW CAR CUSTOMERS SO THAT THEY CAN SLEEP AT THE SERVICE DEPARTMENTS AT DEALERSHIPS, ESPECIALLY THE UNION SHOPS THAT DON'T WORK ON SATURDAYS (AND SEEM NOT TO CARE ABOUT THE VEHICLE IN THE FIRST PLACE). 1. BROKEN FORWARD ENGINE MOUNT, 2. LOOSE SWAY BAR/SWAY BAR MOUNTS REPLACED, 3. HIGH PITCHED GRINDING NOISE ON COLD STARTUP (MAYBE THE STARTER BUT SINCE IT NEVER DOES IT AT THE DEALERSHIP I'LL NEVER KNOW FOR SURE), 4. CRUISE CONTROL DOES WHAT IT WANTS TO (SET IT TO 55 MPH, IT CAN ACTUALLY GO DOWN TO 51 OR UP TO 59 DEPENDING ON THE TERRAIN, DEALER SAYS IT'S NORMAL), 5. POWER STEERING (RED) FLUID IS LEAKING, NOW THERE'S A SURPRISE! AND FINALLY 6. THE DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW MAKES CREAKING NOISES WHEN IT'S GOING UP, I KNOW IT'S NOT A SAFETY ISSUE BUT IT IS ANNOYING. I SHOULD HAVE FORKED OVER THE EXTRA CASH FOR A SIENNA OR ODYSSEY MINIVAN, YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. THIS IS MY FIRST AND LAST CHRYSLER. *JB
CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY 2005 MINIVAN TOURING CAR. AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON AND REMAINS ON. CALLED DEALER WHERE WE BOUGHT THE CAR AND HAVE APPOINTMENT NEXT WED. 4/12/06 TO GET PROBLEM CORRECTED. DEALER SAID AIRBAG MAY OR MAY NOT DEPLOY. WE ARE RELUCTANT TO DRIVE IT UNTIL PROBLEM IS CORRECTED. AT THIS TIME WE HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS SERVICE. WANT IT ON RECORD THAT WE HAVE THIS PROBLEM. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE HAVING THE TIRES ROTATED FOR REGULAR MAINTENANCE, THE LEFT FRONT STUDS SHEARED OFF WHEN THE TIRE WAS BEING TORQUED. THE DEALER REPLACED 2 STUDS AND THE TIRE WAS ATTACHED PROPERLY. UPDATED 05/16/06. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A GRINDING NOISE COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER DISCOVERED THAT THE BRAKE PADS WERE WORN OUT. CHRYSLER PAID FOR THE PADS TO BE REPLACED AND THE CONTACT PAID THE LABOR COSTS. THE PADS HAVE BEGUN TO GRIND AGAIN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 32,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 13,000.
LARSON CHRYSLER IS UNABLE TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM OF SLIPPING OF THE GEAR SHIFT. THE GEAR SHIFT SLIP FROM DRIVE TO ANOTHER GEAR NOR DOES IT LOCK IN DRIVE. MY BE TRAVELING 60 MILES PER HOUR, I COULD BE KILLED. I HAVE INFORMED LARSON CHRYSLER ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND THEY HAVE NOT REALLY SOLVED IT. *JB
SUMMARY: I WAS SUPPOSED TO PICK UP THE VAN ON MARCH 30 2006, BUT THE SYSTEM DIED DURING THE TEST RUN, VAN WOULD NOT SHIFT GEARS, SIGNAL OR TURN OFF, THIS PROBLEM RECURRED ON JULY 23, 2006 SHORTLY AFTER IT WAS FINALLY DELIVERED TO ME AT HOME. I CALLED CARLOS, THE PRESIDENT OF THE COMPANY WHICH MADE THE ADAPTIVE DRIVING EQUIPMENT FOR MY VAN AND LEFT A VOICE MAIL SAYING THE VAN WAS STUCK IN DRIVE, AND I WAS SITTING WITH MY HAND ON THE BRAKE, (AS HAPPENED ON MARCH 29, 2006 WHEN WE WENT TO TAKE IT HOME FOR THE FIRST TIME. THE CUSTOMER CARE REPRESENTATIVE CALLED ME BACK AND TOLD ME TO HAVE SOMEONE PULL OUT ONE OF THE FUSES TO RESET IT. ABOUT A WEEK LATER, DRIVE MASTER TECHNICIAN CAME OUT TO PUT IN A TEMPORARY RESET SWITCH. I NEVER HEARD BACK FROM CARLOS REGARDING THIS INCIDENT. THE VEHICLE FAILED NUMEROUS TIMES, CAUSING ME TO HAVE TO FLIP THIS 'TEMPORARY' RESET SWITCH, CARLOS DIDN'T RETURN MY CALLS , BUT DRIVE MASTER SAID HE WAS SENDING OUT THE PARTS TO REPLACE THE SWITCH. THEN, THE VAN DIED LATE SEPTEMBER IN A PARKING LOT, GAS/BRAKE FAILED, BACK-UP BRAKE \WAS DELAYED, A SECOND EARLIER OR LATER AND I WOULD HAVE BEEN IN A MAJOR ACCIDENT. I SPOKE TO CARLOS IN OCTOBER, AND HE WAS PUTTING IN SOMETHING TO FIX THIS PROBLEM, BUT HE HAD YET TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEM . THIS CAUSED THE VAN TO FREEZE , INABILITY TO SHIFT GEARS, SIGNAL, TURN THE CAR OFF, ETC , AND THE ONLY RESOLUTION TO THAT FIRST PROBLEM, SO FAR WAS TO FLIP THE RESET SWITCH THAT WAS TEMPORARILY PUT IN. CARLOS OFFERED ME AN UPGRADE THAT WOULD ADDRESS THE PROBLEM THAT HAPPENED IN LATE SEPTEMBER WITH THE VAN FREEZING FOR $1500, BUT SAID IT WOULD NORMALLY COST MORE AND HE WASN'T MAKING IT AVAILABLE TO EVERYONE. THE PROBLEM RECURRED WITHOUT RESOLUTION. *AK
I HAVE A 2005 CHRYSLER T & C W/ 17K MILES. HEARD GRINDING METAL TO METAL NOISE. DEALER SAYS NEEDS NEW FRONT BRAKES. 1 DEALER SAYS "ALL OF THE T & C'S & CARAVANS ARE COMING IN FOR BRAKES BETWEEN 15K-20K MILES." ANOTHER DEALER SAYS SHOULDN'T NEED BRAKES UNTIL 26K OR MORE. CHRYSLER SAYS, "SORRY, WE HAVE NOT HEARD OF THIS DEFECT, SO WE WILL NOT COVER IT." WHEN ASKED, "SO YOU ARE NOT RECEIVING REPORTS OF THESE VANS NEEDING BRAKES SO SOON?" THEIR RESPONSE IS "NO". DEALER SAYS THEY HAVE CALLED CHRYSLER ABOUT THIS MANY TIMES, BUT CHRYSLER WILL NOT COVER IT, SO THE DEALER HAS DECIDED TO TELL CUSTOMERS NEEDING BRAKES THIS EARLY ON VANS IS "NORMAL MAINTENANCE" BECAUSE THE VANS ARE SO "HEAVY". BOTTOM LINE-DEALER IS CHARGING ME $352.98 TO REPLACE FRONT PADS & RESURFACE ROTORS. CHRYSLER WILL NOT COMPENSATE. *JB
AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON. BEING A SCHOOL VEHICLE IT PLACES THE VAN OUT OF SERVICE. I CONTACTED THE DEALER TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM AND FOUND OUT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND SINCE THE VAN HAS 51000 MILES ON IT THE WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED. I FEEL THIS BEING A SAFETY ISSUE CHRYSLER SHOULD COVER THE REPAIR. I DO KNOW OF ONE OTHER SCHOOL VAN THAT HAS HAD THE SAME ISSUE WITH THE AIR BAG LIGHT. I ALSO FEEL THAT MOST CONSUMERS WOULD IGNORE THE LIGHT AND TAKE THEIR CHANCES BEFORE SPENDING 214.00 ON THE REPAIR.*JB
I WAS GETTING MY CHILDREN OUT OF THE MINIVAN AND USED THE AUTOMATIC DOOR BUTTON ON THE INSIDE OF THE VAN TO CLOSE THE DOOR. AS THE DOOR CLOSED, MY 2 YR OLD SUDDENLY SLIPPED HER FINGERS INTO THE PATH AND THE DOOR FULLY CLOSED ON HER 2 FINGERS. I IMMEDIATELY USED MY REMOTE TO OPEN THE DOOR AND RELEASED HER FINGERS AND IT DID NOT RESPOND AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS. I ATTEMPTED TO OPEN THE DOOR MANUALLY AND REALIZED IT WAS LOCKED, AND IT WOULD NOT UNLOCK WITH THE REMOTE EITHER. I HAD TO USE MY KEY TO OPEN THE FRONT PASSENGER DOOR AND THEN UNLOCK THE DOORS FROM WITHIN THE CAR AND THEN MANUALLY OPEN THE DOOR HER FINGERS WERE STUCK IN. HER FINGERS APPEARED COMPLETELY FLAT WHEN I WAS ABLE TO REMOVE THEM BUT ALTHOUGH THEY WERE VERY BRUISED AND SWOLLEN FOR A WEEK OR TWO, THEY WERE NOT BROKEN. I FEEL WE WERE VERY LUCKY THAT SHE WAS SO YOUNG AND SMALL THAT HER FINGERS WERE NOT HURT MORE AND THAT SHE HAD NOT MANAGED TO GET HER ENTIRE HAND INTO THE DOOR. THE INCIDENT HAPPENED ABOUT A YEAR AGO AND I ASSUMED IT WAS A FLUKE ACCIDENT AND DID NOT REPORT IT SOONER. I AM REPORTING IT NOW BECAUSE I RECENTLY READ OF THIS HAPPENING TO OTHER CHILDREN WITH MORE SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES AND WANT TO ADD TO THE RECORD WITH OUR EXPERIENCE. CLUNKING NOISE ATTRIBUTED TO WORN FRONT SWAY BAR CUSHION - REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. SERVICE WRITER SAID THEY HAD SIMILAR PROBLEMS, AND THOUGHT IT WAS MAYBE A DESIGN FLAW. HEADLIGHTS TURN OFF WITHOUT WARNING AND FAIL TO TURN ON DURING NIGHT TIME DRIVING. VEHICLE MUST BE STOPPED AND RESTARTED FOR HEADLIGHTS TO ACTIVATE (WHICH DOESN'T ALWAYS WORK ON THE FIRST ATTEMPT). TIRE PRESSURE SENSORS ARE NOT CORRECTLY CALIBRATED ON BY '05 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY MINI-VAN. MY DEALER REFUSES TO CALIBRATE THEM. THEY INSIST THAT I OVER INFLATE MY TIRES TO COMPENSATE FOR THE MIS-CALIBRATED SENSORS. *JB
THE REAR SLIDING DOOR ON OUR 2005 CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY HAS FAILED, MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO OPEN THE DOOR MORE THAN 12 INCHES. THIS IS A SAFETY PROBLEM BECAUSE WE OBVIOUSLY HAVE A VAN SO THAT WE CAN TRANSPORT OUR CHILDREN. THE DESIGN APPEARS FLAWED. THERE IS A CHEAP PLASTIC CHAIN CARRIER THAT CONTAINS WIRING AND RIDES IN THE DOOR TRACK. THIS HAS BLOWN APART, CAUSING THE CAR WIRING TO BE EXPOSED AND SUBJECT TO WEAR IN THE DOOR TRACK. ALTHOUGH WE ONLY HAVE 54000 MILES ON THE CAR, CHRYSLER SAYS THIS IS A WEAR AND TEAR ITEM (I.E., WE'VE JUST USED THE DOOR TOO MUCH). THEY WON'T FIX IT, EVEN THOUGH THE DOOR ON THE OTHER SIDE IS BEGINNING TO HAVE PROBLEMS TOO (BUSHINGS FALLING OFF, ROUGH CLOSING, ETC). IT LOOKS TO US LIKE THE WHOLE SLIDING DOOR CONCEPT AT CHRYSLER NEEDS TO BE RETHOUGHT. WE CAN'T BE THE ONLY ONES WITH THIS PROBLEM. ON JANUARY 28,2006 WAS DRIVING FROM SAN ANTONIO TO HOUSTON TX DURING A MILD RAIN AS THE RAIN BECAME HEAVIER MY VEHICLE STARTED TO HYDROPLANING. I PULLED TO THE OUTSIDE LANE AND DROVE UNDER 50 MPH; AFTER DRIVING ABOUT 60 MILES THE RAIN QUIT AND AS THE ROAD DRIED OUT I WAS ABLE TO PROCEED ON THE HOUSTON. WHEN I FOUND A TIRE PLACE OPENED I STOPPED TO SEE IF THEY COULD GIVE ME ANY FEED BACK ON WHY MY CAR WOULD HYDROPLANE. I WAS TOLD I HAD GOOD TREAD BUT THE OUTSIDE SHOULDERS OF THE TIRES WERE CLOSED AND WOULD NOT LET THE ACCESS WATER OUT SO THAT I WAS DRIVING ON WATER AND HAD NO TRACTION ON THE ROAD. IT WASN'T EVEN A HEAVY RAIN I WAS DRIVING IN IF IT HAD OF BEEN A SUDDEN HARD RAIN HOW MAY CARS WOULD HAVE WOUND UP IN AN ACCIDENT. I SPOKE WITH THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT OF ANCIRA MOTOR CO AND WAS TOLD I NEEDED TO TAKE MY TIRE WARRANTY WITH ME TO GOODYEAR WHICH I DID AND THEY TESTED THE TIRES AND SAID THERE WAS NO DEFECTS AND EVEN THOUGH THERE WERE NO GROVES IN THE SHOULD OF THE TIRES FOR THE WATER TO LEAVE THE CENTER OF THE TIRE THAT IT JUST MEANT THAT THE WATER MOVED FROM THE CENTER MORE SLOWLY THAN OTHER TIRES NOT THAT THEY WERE NOT ALL SEASON TIRES. THE MANAGER GAVE ME THE NUMBER FOR GOODYEAR'S CUSTOMER SERVICE SO I WILL CALL THEM MONDAY. TIRES THAT ARE NOT SAFE FOR ANY DRIVING WEATHER SHOULD NOT BE SOLD AS IF THEY ARE. AFTER LEAVING GOODYEAR I DROVE OVER TO ANCIRA AND SPOKE WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER LARRY SAID THAT HE COULD TELL ME HOW TO GO ON THE INTERNET AND SEE HOW THE TIRES ON MY CAR WAS RATED BUT SAID THEY COULD NOT GIVE THAT TYPE OF INFORMATION WHEN YOU ARE PURCHASING A VEHICLE.
ACCELERATOR PETAL ENGAGED TO THE FLOOR AND TOOK OFF DOWN THE NJ TURNPIKE. I STARTED BRAKING TRYING TO SLOW THE CAR DOWN WHILE SIGNALING TO GET OVER IN ORDER TO BRING THE CAR TO A STOP.(I WAS ON THE TRUCK SIDE..) ONCE OVER ON THE SIDE AND AT A FULL STOP THE CAR CONTINUED TO RUN. THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING AS IF I WAS GOING 55 MILES PER HOUR. I PLACED THE CAR IN PARK AND HEARD A LOUD SHIFT/CLANK NOSE. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND THE MOTOR FINALLY STOP RACING AND STOPPED. MY WIFE AND I WAS SO SCARED... WE STARTED TO GET OUT IF IT HAD NOT STOP RUNNING. WE THOUGHT IT WOULD START A FIRE. WE WAITED A WHILE, STARTED UP AGAIN, GOT OF THE TURNPIKE IMMEDIATELY AND DROVE HOME VERY SLOW. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THE NEXT DAY. THEY KEPT IT FOR A DAY AN A HALF AND TOLD ME THEY COULDN'T FIND ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR. THE SUPERVISOR OF REPAIRS SAID THAT THE COMPUTER/DIAGNOSIS READS A CODE: P299S. HE ALSO SAY THAT THE CURRENT PROBLEM I STATED WAS SHOWN IN THE COMPUTER 260 MILES AGO. AND, THAT THE COMPUTER SHOWED THAT THE CAR WAS TRAVELING 50 MPH WHILE THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS ENGAGED(AT THE SAME TIME !). WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WOULD DRIVE A CAR AT HIGH SPEED WHILE STEPPING ON THE BRAKE?. OH, ALSO THE SUPERVISOR SAID HE WOULDN'T GO CHANGING THE COMPUTER JUST BECAUSE OF THIS. I GOT MY CAR BACK, DROVE IT HOME AND PARKED IT. I'M SCARED TO DRIVE IT AND MY WIFE IS TOO. I HAVEN'T DECIDED WHAT TO DO NEXT.(PS. THEY WERE QUICK TO TELL ME THAT MY CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY.... SPORADIC FAILURE OF TURN SIGNALS, SOMETIMES WHEN TURN TO LEFT INDICATOR BLINKS TO RIGHT. *JB
JANUARY 2005 AFTER OWNING MY 2005 TOWN AND COUNTRY FOR ONLY 6 MONTHS THE AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I WAS TOLD THAT THE SENSOR WAS BAD ON THE PASSENGER SIDE AND I NEEDED TO LEAVE MY VAN AT THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE IT WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVER DUE TO THE FACT THAT IF I WERE TO GET INTO AN ACCIDENT THE PASSENGER AIRBAG WOULD NOT DEPLOY. JANUARY 2, 2006, I JUST HAD TO TAKE THE VAN BACK IN FOR THE SAME THING. THIS TIME I HAD TO DRIVE IT ALL THE WAY BACK FROM FLORIDA WITH THE AIRBAG LIGHT ON. THEY HAD TO REPLACE BOTH SENSORS THIS TIME. JANUARY 13,2006 I WAS ON MY WAY TO CHICAGO FROM MY HOME IN MICHIGAN AND THE AIR BAG SENSOR IS AGAIN COMING ON, LESS THAN 2 WEEKS AFTER HAVING IT FIXED! THE OTHER PROBLEM I HAVE HAD WITH THIS VAN IS THE WIRING THE OPERATES THE POWER SLIDING DOORS. I HAVE HAD TO HAVE THE WIRING ASSEMBLIES REPLACED, ONCE ON EACH SIDE. *JB
WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT THE HEADLIGHTS TURN OFF. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME IN ABOUT A YEAR THAT THE SAME PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED. THE LAST TIME THEY REPLACED THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH UNDER WARRANTY. THIS TIME ISN'T COVERED? ONCE THE LIGHTS GO OUT YOU HAVE TO CONSTANTLY TURN THE SWITCH BACK AND FORTH UNTIL THEY COME ON. I TALKED WITH CHRYSLER CUSTOMER REPS TODAY AND THEY SAY IT'S AN ISOLATED OR UNHEARD OF PROBLEM. HOWEVER, ACCORDING TO THIS SITE, IT SEEMS TO BE MORE OFTEN THAN CHRYSLER WILL ADMIT! *NM
WHILE DRIVING ALONG A QUIET SUBURBAN STREET, THE ENGINE OF MY 2005 CHRYSLER DODGE CARAVAN QUIT WITHOUT WARNING. WITH REMAINING LIMITED BRAKING AND STEERING, I BROUGHT THE CAR TO A SAFE STOP. THE ENGINE WOULD TURN OVER, BUT WOULD NOT START. I CALLED FOR ASSISTANCE; THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE REP CONFIRMED THAT THE FUEL GAUGE SENDING-UNIT HAD STOPPED WORKING, SO EVEN THOUGH THE FUEL GAUGE SHOWED OVER HALF-FULL, I HAD RUN OUT OF GAS! THE UNIT WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY, LEAVING ME TO SPECULATE WHAT MIGHT HAVE HAPPENED IF I'D BEEN MILES OUT OF TOWN IN A CANADIAN-WINTER STORM, WITH MY FAMILY ALONG. *JB
THE HEADLIGHTS ON OUR NEW 2005 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY MINIVAN TURN OFF DURING OPERATION. WE'VE TAKEN IT TO THE GARAGE (IT'S STILL UNDER WARRANTY) AND THE MECHANIC ADVISES THAT HE HAS SEEN THIS SAME PROBLEM ON SEVERAL VEHICLES. HE WAS UNABLE TO LOCATE THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS CONDITION AT NIGHT, AS THE DRIVING LIGHTS CUT OUT WITHOUT WARNING AND DO NOT REACTIVATE BY TURNING THE LIGHT SWITCH OFF AND ON. *JB
