I PURCHASED A USED 2008 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY TOURING EDITION WITH APPX. 30,000 MILES ON IT IN LATE 2011. IN MAY OF 2012, I HAD AN ACCIDENT WHICH ONLY AFFECTED MYSELF AND THE VEHICLE. WHILE TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH THE PASSENGER REAR WHEEL CAME OFF OF THE VEHICLE, CAUSING THE VAN TO SLAM TO THE GROUND AND ME TO PERFORM EMERGENCY MANEUVERS TO STOP. THE WHEEL, HAVING HAD ALL FIVE LUG BOLTS SHEARED OFF, HAD BOUNCED OFF OF THE VEHICLE DOING CONSIDERABLE BODY DAMAGE. THE BRAKES, AXLE, TIRE, ET AL HAD TO BE REPLACED. I CHALKED THIS UP TO COINCIDENCE, PAID MY DEDUCTIBLE, AND HAD OVER $3,000 WORTH OF WORK DONE TO REPAIR THE DAMAGE FROM THE ACCIDENT. THIS PAST SUNDAY, AUGUST 24TH, 2014, THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED. I WAS TRAVELING SLOWER THIS TIME, ABOUT 25 MPH, AND WHEN I HEARD THE SAME WHEEL MAKING NOISE I PULLED OFF THE ROAD INTO A STRIP MALL PARKING LOT JUST IN TIME TO HAVE THE WHEEL COME OFF AGAIN, THIS TIME DOING DAMAGE TO THE REAR QUARTER PANEL, THE BUMPER, THE AXLE, BRAKES, TIRE, ET CETERA. IT ALSO FORCED ME TO MAKE ANOTHER EMERGENCY STOP, THIS TIME IN THE LOT, WHERE THE RIGHT SIDE OF MY VEHICLE WAS DAMAGED BY THE HANDLE OF A COMMERCIAL DUMPSTER THAT STOPPED MY SKID. I REACHED OUT TO CHRYSLER BECAUSE I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT THE EXACT SAME THING TO THE EXACT SAME WHEEL WOULD HAPPEN TWICE, AND I NOW CHALK IT UP TO A PARTS FAILURE ON CHRYSLER'S END. I WAS AT FIRST TOLD THAT THEY WERE NOT RESPONSIBLE AND THAT NOTHING WOULD BE DONE ON THEIR END. THE FOLLOWING DAY, I SPOKE WITH THE CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP WHERE THE VAN WAS TOWED AND WAS TOLD BY THEIR HEAD MECHANIC THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO THE (FACTORY) ALLOY RIM. I AGAIN CONTACTED CHRYSLER WITH THIS NEW INFORMATION AND WAS TOLD THAT MY CASE WAS BEING MOVED UP TO A "SPECIALIST" AND THAT I WOULD HAVE TO WAIT 3-5 DAYS BEFORE I HEARD FROM THEM. I NO LONGER FEEL SAFE TRANSPORTING MY FAMILY IN THIS VEHICLE. *TR
DROVE VEHICLE SUCCESSFULLY TO LOCATION, THEN CAME BACK TO VEHICLE TO OPEN DOORS WITH REMOTE. PRESSED OPEN SLIDING DOOR ON REMOTE, THE VEHICLE INSTANTLY STARTED A CONTINUOUS HONK AND THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS AND FLUID STARTED TO GO OFF. I WAS UNABLE TO UNLOCK VEHICLE UNTIL IT FINALLY STOPPED 5 MINUTES LATER. I WAS ABLE TO TURN IT ON AND DRIVE HOME. THEN IT OCCURRED AGAIN IN THE AFTERNOON BUT THIS TIME MY KIDS WERE LOCKED INSIDE IN THE HEAT. FINALLY ABLE TO UNLOCK AND GET KIDS OUT, NEIGHBOR GOT THE HOOD OPEN AND DISCONNECTED BATTERY. VERY SCARED THAT THEY COULD BE LOCKED IN THERE AGAIN IN THIS HEAT. I DID CALL CHRYSLER AND AWAITING A RESOLUTION. *TR
WINDSHIELD WIPERS GOING WITHOUT BEING TURNED ON; WASHER FLUID CONTINUALLY SPEWING OUT; HORN HONKING CONTINUALLY; LIGHTS FLASHING ON AND OFF; DOORS LOCKED. WHILE DRIVING TO THE DEALERSHIP, VAN STALLED IN TRAFFIC. FINALLY WAS ABLE TO GET IT THERE WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING AND THE KEY OFF. COULD BE A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION IF VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE DUE TO ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS AND I AM UNABLE TO GET OUT BECAUSE THE DOORS ARE LOCKED AND THE KNOBS ARE DOWN IN THE DOOR SO YOU CAN'T PULL THEM UP TO ESCAPE. IT WAS LIKE THE VEHICLE WAS POSSESSED. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE FOR MY MOTHER TO DRIVE AND I AM AFRAID FOR HER TO USE IT. THE DEALERSHIP KEPT IT FOR A DAY AND SAID IT WOULD NEED A TIPM, BUT IT WAS ON BACK ORDER AND WOULDN'T BE IN UNTIL POSSIBLY 1-3 MONTHS. RIDICULOUS! THEY CAN MAKE SEVERAL VEHICLES IN ONE DAY AND CAN'T A PART FOR 1-3 MONTHS. THEY SAID WE PROBABLY SHOULDN'T DRIVE IT. THAT'S CERTAINLY INCONVENIENT FOR US SINCE WE DON'T HAVE EXTRA VEHICLES. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY, ALL OF THE SAME THINGS HAPPENED AGAIN-HORN HONKING, WINDSHIELD WIPERS GOING, WASHER FLUID SPILLING OUT, DOORS LOCKED-WHILE IT WAS JUST SITTING IN MY DRIVE. WE WERE TOLD TO UNHOOK THE NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS ISSUE BECAUSE APPARENTLY I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS PROBLEM AS NOTED IN OTHER ENTRIES LISTED. WE HAVE NOT HAD A CRASH, FIRE OR INJURY/FATALITY AS OF YET, BUT I WANT THE PROBLEM RESOLVED BEFORE THAT HAPPENS!!! *TR
* IN MAY AT 70MPH ON I-90, WE BEGAN TO HEAR A WHINING, GRINDING, VIBRATING NOISE COMING FROM THE LEFT REAR OF OUR VAN. WE PULLED OVER TO THE SHOULDER ASAP WHEN WE DETERMINED SOMETHING WAS WRONG, AND THEN SMELLED AND SAW ACRID BLUE SMOKE POURING OUT FROM THE LEFT WHEEL. I THOUGHT IT WAS A WHEEL BEARING, AND CALLED FOR A TOW. THE DEALER SAID IT WAS JUST SOME RUST IN THE BRAKES, AND THEY CLEANED IT UP. IN AUGUST, THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED AT 70MPH ON I-35. WE PULLED OVER TO THE SHOULDER AND SMOKE POURED OUT AGAIN. WE LET IT COOL, ACTIVATED & DEACTIVATED THE PARKING BRAKE AND DROVE IN REVERSE AND HIT THE BRAKES SEVERAL TIMES UNTIL THEY FREED UP. PROBABLY NOT THE SAFEST THING TO DO, BUT NOT MUCH CHOICE KNOWING THE BRAKES STICK AT FREEWAY SPEEDS. * RECENTLY SEARCHED THE INTERNET & FOUND THAT THE 2008 T&C HAS A VERY BAD HISTORY WITH BRAKE ISSUES. PEOPLE ARE IRATE AND DEMANDING A RECALL ON THEM. EGR VALVE NEEDS REPLACEMENT AFTER ONLY 55,000 MILES/ 88,000 KM, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. DEALERSHIP-ONLY ITEM, QUANTITY 6000 ON BACK-ORDER. WHY ONLY DEALERSHIP ITEM? WHY 6000 ON BACK ORDER?? FUEL ECONOMY IN LOW DOUBLE-DIGITS, CAUSING EXCESSIVE FUEL USAGE AND POLLUTION. PLS HELP. *TR
ON MAY 2, THE VAN WOULD NOT START AFTER COMING OUT FROM A RESTAURANT. THE INTERESTING THING IS THAT THE WIPERS HAD BEEN GOING AND THE WIPER FLUID WAS EMPTY AND WIPER FLUID WAS ALL OVER THE WINDSHIELD AND CAR. THE BATTERY WAS JUMPED AS A SHORT-TERM FIX, BUT WITHIN A FEW MILES (WHILE GOING APPROXIMATELY 65MPH), THE CAR STARTED HONKING ITS HORN AND WIPERS WERE GOING WHILE DRIVING. I QUICKLY EXITED THE HIGHWAY AND PULLED INTO A NEARBY GAS STATION. AT THAT TIME, I PUT THE VEHICLE INTO PARK AND TOOK THE KEY OUT. EVEN AFTER THE KEY WAS TAKEN OUT, THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO RUN, HONK, AND RUN THE WIPERS. THIS CONTINUED FOR APPROXIMATELY 3 MINUTES BEFORE IT QUIT BY ITSELF. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A NEARBY FIRESTONE CENTER AND THE BATTERY WAS REPLACED. THIS WAS UNFORTUNATELY NOT THE SOLUTION BECAUSE ANOTHER INCIDENT (SAME SYMPTOMS) OCCURRED JUST 3 DAYS LATER WHILE DRIVING. AGAIN, MY WIFE GOT THE VEHICLE TO A SAFE PLACE, BUT THIS TIME, SHE COULD NOT EVEN GET THE VAN INTO THE ?PARK? POSITION. SHE WAS ABLE TO GET THE KEY OUT, BUT THE CAR CONTINUED TO RUN. SHE HAD TO HOLD HER FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND FINALLY INSERTED THE METAL PART OF THE KEY TO GET THE ENGINE TO TURN OFF AND ALLOW HER TO MOVE IT TO THE ?PARK? POSITION AND SAFELY EXIT THE VEHICLE. . AS YOU CAN IMAGINE, THIS WAS AN EXPENSIVE INCIDENT, BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY, IT PRESENTED A SAFETY ISSUE TO ME AND MY FAMILY BECAUSE OF THE VEHICLE?S INABILITY TO STOP AND PUT INTO ?PARK? POSITION. IT ALSO PRESENTED A SAFETY CONCERN DRIVING WITH THE CAR WHILE IT WAS NOT IN AN ELECTRONICALLY STABLE CONDITION AND WAS HAZARDOUS TO OTHER DRIVERS. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE ON THE INTERNET AND SEE SIMILAR COMPLAINTS. *TR
2008 CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO COMPLAINT CONCERNING CHRYSLER SAFETY RECALL L01 OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROLLER MODULE *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE RECALL PROCESS WASN'T HANDLE PROPERLY OR PROFESSIONALLY. THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED IT WOULD TAKE AN HOUR TO PERFORM THE RECALL. HOWEVER, WHEN SHE RETURNED, THE DEALER INFORMED HER THAT THEY HAD ONLY SCANNED THE MODULE AND WOULD HAVE TO ORDER THE REPLACEMENT PART. WHEN THE CONSUMER CALLED THE DEALER TWO WEEKS LATER, SHE WAS TOLD THE PART STILL HAD NOT BEEN ORDERED. THE DEALER TOLD THE CONSUMER SHE WAS ON THE LIST, FOR THE PART TO BE ORDERED. THE DEALER STATED CHRYSLER WOULD ONLY ALLOW THEM TO PLACE ORDERS EVERY FOUR DAYS. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER WAS DRIVING 40 MPH WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONING UNIT STOPPED FUNCTIONING. THE DRIVER THEN ATTEMPTED TO OPEN THE WINDOWS, BUT THE WINDOWS WOULD NOT RESPOND. THE TURN SIGNALS ALSO DID NOT FUNCTION AND THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTING STOPPED ILLUMINATING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT THE PARTS NECESSARY TO PERFORM THE REPAIRS WERE ON BACK ORDER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT THEY WERE UNABLE TO PROVIDE A TIME FRAME AS TO WHEN THE PARTS WOULD BECOME AVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000.
MY TIPM MODULE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED BUT SINCE THERE IS A NATIONAL SHORTAGE FOR THIS PART. I LIKE THOUSANDS OF OTHERS HAVE TO WAIT 6-9 MONTHS BEFORE THERE WILL BE ANY AVAILABLE. THIS PART HAS BEEN ON BACK ORDER FOR A VERY LONG TIME. CHRYSLER IS VERY LUCKY THAT NO ONE HAS BEEN SERIOUSLY HURT. *TR
THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS BOTH FRONT AND BACK, THE WASHER FLUID AND HORN ALL TURN ON RANDOMLY WHILE DRIVING OR PARKED WITH THE IGNITION OFF, THE DOORS REFUSE TO UNLOCK OR LOCK, THE HEADLIGHTS TURN ON AND OFF RANDOMLY WHILE DRIVING OR PARKED. THE DASHBOARD GAUGES STOP WORKING ALL TOGETHER OR ALL OF THE WARNING LIGHTS TURN ON AND OFF AND THE RADIO/NAVIGATION WILL TURN ON AND OFF. ALL OF THE MENTIONED SYMPTOMS OCCUR REGARDLESS OF WHETHER THE IGNITION IS ON OR NOT AND RANDOMLY WITH NO NOTIFICATION OR PREDICTABILITY. THE DEALER WANTS IN EXCESS OF $1000 TO REPAIR BUT OFFERS NO GUARANTEE THAT IT WILL NOT REOCCUR. *TR
WHILE USING THE OEM VEHICLE JACK TO REMOVE A FLAT TIRE. THE JACK SLIPPED AWAY FROM THE VEHICLE TWICE AND THE VEHICLE FELL TO THE GROUND. I CHECKED THE POSITION LOCATION AND CONFIGURATION OF PLACEMENT OF JACK AGAINST THE OWNER'S MANUAL AND WAS PROPERLY USED. ANOTHER QUALITY PROCESS AND PART FROM CHRYSLER. *JS
I BOUGHT A BRAND NEW 2008 TOWN AND COUNTRY IN DEC. 2007. FOR FOUR YEARS IT DIDN'T HAVE A PROBLEM EXCEPT FOR THE WHIRRING SOUND. THIS PROBLEM OF TIPM PROBABLY APPEARED ABOUT TWO YEARS AGO WHEN THE VAN SUDDENLY OVERHEATED ALONG THE FREEWAY WHILE DRIVING JUST ABOUT 12 MILES FROM MY HOME. THE SERVICE CENTER SAID THAT THERE WAS A LEAKING HOSE IN THE COOLING SYSTEM BUT I TOLD THEM THAT PRIOR TO THAT THE WIPER JUST STARTED TO MOVE WITHOUT TURNING IT ON. THE SERVICE CENTER APPARENTLY FIXED IT. BUT THE SAME THING HAS BEEN HAPPENING ON AND OFF. ALL THE SERVICE CENTER CAN SAY IS IT IS DRIVABLE. ABOUT TWO MONTHS AGO IT OVERHEATED AGAIN, AND MY WIFE WHO WAS USING THE CAR HAD IT TOWED TO THE CHRYSLER SERVICE CENTER CLOSE TO WHERE THE CAR STALLED. THAT IS THE CARPROS IN RENTON, WASHINGTON, WHO SAID THAT THE PROBLEM AGAIN WAS THE COOLANT SYSTEM HOSE THAT WAS LEAKING, ALSO SOMETHING ABOUT THE TIMING BELT THAT NEEDED TO BE CHANGED, THE CYLINDER HEAD GASKET THAT NEEDED TO BE CHANGED. WHILE I HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY THEY WERE CHARGING TOO MUCH SO I HAD IT TOWED TO THE SERVICE CENTER WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR. THIS SERVICE CENTER FIXED THE CYLINDER HEAD, GOT THE CAR BACK BUT STILL IT HAS THE SAME PROBLEM OF WINDSHIELD TURNING ON, LIGHTS GOING ON AND OFF IN THE INSTRUMENT PANEL, DINGING SOUND GOING ON AND OFF EVEN WHILE DRIVING, DRIVER SEAT ROCKING BACK AND FORTH. I SENT IT BACK TO THE SERVICE CENTER WHERE I BOUGHT IT FROM AND THIS TIME THEY FINALLY SAID THAT IT IS THE TIPM THAT IS CAUSING THE PROBLEM. THEY TOLD ME THAT THE ELECTRONIC BOARD WAS CHANGED TOTALLY AND WAS REPROGRAMMED. BUT THE FOLLOWING DAY, IT STILL HAS THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR

IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V373000 (AIR BAGS, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) HOWEVER, THE PART TO DO THE REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE.

THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO RESTART AND THE FAILURE RECURRED ON THREE OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS A POSSIBLE KEY FOB FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V373000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 61,000.
THE ENGINE JUST STALLED WITH NO WARNING. HAD NO POWER STEERING OR BRAKES. JUST PULLED OUT OF A PARKING LOT WHERE THE CAR WAS SITTING FOR A FEW HOURS. THIS IS THE THIRD TIME THIS HAS DONE IT. *TR

THE CONTACT THEN TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE AND ONCE WAS RESTARTED, THE HEADLIGHTS FUNCTIONED NORMALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NEITHER DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 42,800 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 42,900.

THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE DEALER, WHO STATED THAT THE ERG VALVE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED BUT THE PART WAS ON BACK ORDER. THE PARTS WOULD TAKEAT LEAST A MONTH TO ARRIVE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 52,000.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER RECEIVING NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 11V394000 (AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:SENSOR/CONTROL MODULE), THE CONTACT CALLED A LOCAL DEALER TO SECURE AN APPOINTMENT FOR RECALL REPAIRS. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE PARTS NEEDED FOR REPAIRS WERE NOT AVAILABLE AND THEY WOULD CALL THE CONTACT ONCE THE PARTS HAD BECOME AVAILABLE. TWO MONTHS AFTER THE INITIAL POINT OF CONTACT, THE DEALER STILL DID NOT HAVE THE NECESSARY PARTS TO REMEDY THE VEHICLE PER THE RECALL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TIME INVOLVED IN HAVING THE RECALLED COMPONENT REPAIRED WAS INSUFFICIENT AND HAD EXCEEDED A REASONABLE TIME FRAME. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. ON 3 DIFFERENT OCCASIONS I EXPERIENCED AN ENGINE SHUT DOWN WHILE EASING FOOT OFF ACCELERATOR PEDAL TO MAKE A TURN OR SLOW DOWN TO STOP. I EXPERIENCED A BUMP AND INSTRUMENT DASH LIGHTS CAME ON. ONCE THE SOUND OF A BELL RANG AS IF THE KEY IS LEFT IN THE IGNITION. HOWEVER, WHEN I DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STILL MOVING THE ENGINE RESTARTED. I HAVE HAD A MECHANIC FROM A REPUTABLE REPAIR SHOP TEST DRIVE AND RUN A COMPUTER DIAGNOSTIC CHECK AND NOTHING APPEARED TO BE WRONG. THIS PROBLEM IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY PROBLEM AND NEED TO BE CORRECTED BY THE CHRYSLER CORP. I HAVE READ OF OTHER SIMILAR COMPLAINTS/PROBLEMS. *TR
ENGINE BURNS OVER 3 QUARTS OF OIL BETWEEN OIL CHANGES. IT HAS GOTTEN WORSE WITH AGE. I'M PUTTING ALMOST 4 QUARTS IN EVERY 2000 MILES NOW. BASED ON THE READING I'VE DONE, THIS IS A TOO COMMON PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE IS SUBJECT TO RECALL L25/NHTSA 14V-373. THE ENGINE SHUTS OFF DURING OPERATION PUTTING THE DRIVER AND PASSENGERS AT RISK OF HARM. ON ONE OCCASION, THE SHUT DOWN OCCURRED WHEN ENTERING TRAFFIC. ON ANOTHER OCCASION IT OCCURRED IN MODERATELY HEAVY TRAFFIC WHILE TRAVELING ON THE INTERSTATE AT 65 MPH. THE PROBLEM BEGAN IN APRIL 2012. THE PATTERN IS THE SAME, AFTER A SERIES OF SHUTDOWNS, THE IGNITION LOCKS UP AND THE VEHICLE WILL NOT START. THE VEHICLE IS THEN TOWED TO A CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP WHERE REPAIRS ARE PERFORMED AT THE OWNER'S EXPENSE. THE REPAIR RECEIPTS INDICATE THAT CHRYSLER REPLACES THE TRANSMITTER AND RECEIVER (KEY FOB). THESE REPAIRS HAVE BEEN INEFFECTIVE. THE REPAIR LASTS FOR A FEW MONTHS AND THEN THE PROBLEM RESURFACES. THE MOST RECENT INCIDENT OCCURRED ON DECEMBER 23, 2014. AFTER A SERIES OF SHUTOFFS, THE ENGINE WOULDN'T START. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP WHERE IT IS PRESENTLY LOCATED. ON DECEMBER 24, 2014, THE CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE, STATING THAT CHRYSLER WILL NOT AUTHORIZE THE WORK. ON DECEMBER 26, 2014, THE MANUFACTURE WAS INFORMED OF THE PROBLEM VIA TELEPHONE DISCUSSION ON THE CHRYSLER RECALL ASSISTANCE HOTLINE (800-853-1403). THE CALL WAS UNPRODUCTIVE. CHRYSLER REFUSES TO MAKE ANY REPAIRS UNTIL THE SPRING OF 2015 UNDER RECALL L25/NHTSA 14V-373. THE VEHICLE WILL NOT START AND IS UNUSABLE IN ITS CURRENT CONDITION. THE VEHICLE IS THE OWNERS SOLE SOURCE OF TRANSPORTATION FOR WORK AND FAMILY RELATED NEEDS. CHRYSLER IS UNWILLING TO PROVIDE A RENTAL CAR REPLACEMENT UNTIL REPAIRS ARE MADE IN SPRING OF 2015. THE DEALER WAS UNCERTAIN WHEN THE PARTS WOULD BECOME AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM AND THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.

THIS COMPLAINT IS FOR THE FUEL PUMP. BEGAN TO PROCEED FROM A STOP AFTER THE TRAFFIC LIGHT TURNED GREEN. VAN DIED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION. POWER STOPPED FUNCTIONING, COASTED TO THE CURB. WOULD NOT RESTART. REPLACED FUEL PUMP.
I HAVE HAD THE FRONT BRAKES PADS REPLACED AT 15000 MILES, AND THEN THE FRONT PADS REPLACED AGAIN AT ABOUT 30000 MILES. THE REAR PADS WERE REPLACED ALSO AROUND 30,000 MILES. WHEN AT THE DEALER FOR AN OIL CHANGE AT 50000 THEY SAID THE REAR PADS NEED REPLACING. I WAS FED UP WITH THE BRAKES ON THIS VEHICLE AND DID NOT HAVE THE DEALER REPAIR THEM. TODAY AT ABOUT 54000 MILES I TOOK MY VEHICLE INTO MIDAS AND THEY SHOWED ME THAT THE REAR DRIVERS SIDE BRAKE PAD WAS WORE DOWN NEARLY ALL THE WAY WHILE THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE PAD WAS ONLY ABOUT HALF. (UNEVER WEAR). THE REAR DRIVERS SIDE ROTAR ALSO SHOWED SIGNS OF OVERHEATING. (HAD A BLUEISH/PURPLE SHEEN TO IT) I PAID ABOUT 600 BUCKS TO HAVE THE REAR PADS, CALIBERS, AND ROTARS REPLACED WITH CERAMIC PADS. *JS
WHILE TRAVELING ON FOUR LANE STRETCH OF US23 SOUTH (NORTH OF AU GRES, MI) USING CRUISE CONTROL, A VEHICLE APPROACHED FROM BEHIND. I SWITCHED LANES HIT THE BRAKES TO COAST AND THE CAR DECELERATED. THE OTHER VEHICLE PASSED ON MY LEFT AFTER WHICH, I HIT THE RESUME/ACCELERATE FUNCTION ON THE CRUISE CONTROL (A QUICK UP PUSH OF THE LEVER). THE ENGINE REVVED TO 4-5,000 RPM TO RESUME CRUISE SPEED OF 55MPH BUT ONCE 55 WAS REACHED, THE ENGINE DID NOT SLOW DOWN. I APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE ENGINE DID NOT SLOW DOWN. I PUMPED BRAKES, PUMPED ACCELERATOR, PUSHED THE CRUISE OFF BUTTON MULTIPLE TIMES PUSHED THE CRUISE CONTROL TO DECELERATE MULTIPLE TIMES. NOTHING SLOWED THE ACCELERATION. I PRESSED THE BRAKES AND THE CAR CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE. FINALLY I PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND WITH THE CAR CONTINUING TO REV AT 4-5000RPM, I COASTED TO THE SIDE. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND THEN BACK ON AND THE CAR ENGINE WENT RIGHT BACK TO THE SAME RPM. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AGAIN AND WAITED APPROX. TWO MINUTES AND WHEN I RESTARTED, IT FUNCTIONED NORMALLY. I HAVE NOT TRIED THE CRUISE CONTROL SINCE. I HAVE SET AN APPOINTMENT WITH SHUMAN CHRYSLER IN WALLED LAKE, MI AND THEY SAID THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS TYPE OF INCIDENT BEFORE. HOWEVER I DID SEE A SIMILAR INCIDENT WITH A QUICK INTERNET SEARCH. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. I CAN SEE HOW OTHERS DRIVING COULD HAVE HAD MUCH WORSE RESULTS (THINK ABOUT THE TOYOTA INCIDENTS). WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE AT 45 MPH THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT INDICATOR FLASHED AND ALL THE GAUGES ZEROED OUT AND THE VAN LOST POWER AND STEERING CONTROL MAKING IT EXTREMELY DIFFICULT AND UNSAFE TO REMOVE FROM HIGHWAY. NOW THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND HAD DIAGNOSTICS RUN. CODE P0406 - SHOWING ECM HAS DETECTED THE EGR POSITION SENSOR VOLTAGE WAS TOO HIGH, PROBABLE CAUSES COULD BE: FAILED EGR POSITION SENSOR, OPEN OR SHORT CIRCUIT CONDITION, FAILED EGR VALVE, FAILED EGR PRESSURE SENSOR WHERE APPLICABLE, OR FAILED EGR POSITION SENSOR WHERE APPLICABLE. *TR

OUR 2008 TOWN & COUNTRY TOURING HAS BEGUN SHUTTING DOWN WHILE MOVING WITHOUT WARNING. IT HAS HAPPENED SIX TIMES IN 3 MONTHS AT BOTH LOWER SPEEDS, AND ONCE GOING 60+ MPH ON A BUSY INTERSTATE. WHEN IT LOSES POWER, WE LOSE STEERING AND BREAKING POWER MAKING IT VERY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION, PARTICULARLY FOR A CAR NORMALLY FILLED WITH CHILDREN. IT ALSO OCCASIONALLY WILL STALL EVERY TIME YOU START IT. OURS WILL THROW NO CODES AND NO WARNING LIGHTS COME ON, SO NO ONE HAS BEEN ABLE TO FIND THE PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP CLAIMS NO KNOWLEDGE. THE SLIPPERY ROAD WARNING ICON ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS MANEUVERED TO THE ROADSIDE AND THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. UPON RESTARTING, THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO RESUME NORMAL OPERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 61,000. AFTER A RECALL FOR AIRBAG MODULE WAS PERFORMED THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM STARTED ACTING UP, THE WINDOW WON'T ROLL DOWN THE WIPERS ARE ON CONSTANTLY, THE TURN SIGNALS DON'T WORK! PRETTY MUCH ALL THE ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT IS OFF EXCEPT HEADLIGHTS ARE ON ALL THE TIME AND SO ARE THE WIPERS. I TOOK IT TO AN ELECTRICAL SHOP BECAUSE I THINK THE DEALER IS INCOMPETENT AND THEY REPLACED THE WIN MODULE AND FUSE BOX IN JANUARY 2012, DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN ACTING UP SPORADICALLY ALL YEAR LONG, GETTING WORSE. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP IN APRIL 2013 THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING, THIS IS A DANGEROUS VEHICLE!!! *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE STARTER WAS REPLACED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V373000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM); HOWEVER, THE PART WAS UNAVAILABLE TO PERFORM THE REPAIR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REMEDY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
