I HAVE A 2009 TOWN AND COUNTRY. APPROXIMATELY 2 YEARS AGO, MY WIFE AND 2 KIDS WERE STRANDED IN DETROIT DUE TO A BLOWOUT TIRE. THE TIRE BLEW DUE TO THE TIRE SENSOR BREAKING LOOSE. I TOOK THE T&C TO DISCOUNT TIRE AND WAS ADVISED THAT THEY SEE THIS ALL THE TIME WITH THESE SENSORS. IN FACT, THEY HAD T&C'S LINED UP IN THE PARKING LOT WITH THE SAME ISSUE. I DECIDED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL CHRYSLER DEALER, AND THEY ALSO STATED THAT THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM. I HAD THEM FIX THE TIRE/SENSOR. THE SALESMAN SOLD ME A TIRE AND WHEEL WARRANTY ON ALL THE TIRE FOR $160. THE SALESMAN STATED THAT IT WOULD COVER THE SENSORS. ON MARCH 3, 2014, I RECEIVED A LOW PRESSURE ALERT. I CHECKED THE TIRES AND NOTICED THAT THE 2 FRONT SENSORS ARE BROKE. IT IS A MATTER OF TIME UNTIL THEY BREAK OFF AND CAUSE 2 MORE TIRE BLOWOUTS. I THOUGHT I WOULD BE PROACTIVE AND CALL THE CHRYSLER DEALER AND SEE IF I CAN REPLACE THEM UNDER THE WARRANTY. THEY STATED TO ME THAT THEY ARE NOT COVERED. IT WAS STATED THAT IT IS ONLY COVERED IF THE TIRE IS A BLOWOUT/CAUSED BY HITTING POT HOLE. THE PERSON I SPOKE ON THE PHONE ALSO MENTIONED THAT VERY WELL KNOW PROBLEM OF THESE SENSORS AND THAT HE WISHES THAT CHRYSLER WOULD RECALL THEM. SO INSTEAD OF REPLACING THE 2 SENSORS NOW, I WOULD HAVE HAD TO WAIT UNTIL THE INEVITABLE OF 2 BLOWN TIRES BEFORE MY WARRANTY GOES INTO EFFECT? NO THANK YOU, I REPLACED THE SENSORS. MY CONCERN IS THIS FAULTY SENSORS. WHAT IF I DIDN'T CHECK MY TIRE STEMS, MY FAMILY WOULD HAVE BEEN AGAIN STRANDED ON THE ROAD, OR WORSE...BEEN INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. THE FRONT ROTORS AND BRAKE PADS HAVE REPLACED TWICE ON THE VEHICLE. THE BACK ROTORS AND PADS HAVE BEEN REPLACED ONCE AND RESURFACED ONCE. I NOW HAVE 29000 ON THE VEHICLE AND WILL BE BRINGING IN THE VEHICLE AGAIN BECAUSE OF THE SAME VIBRATION IN THE BRAKE PEDAL WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED. *TR
THIS WASN'T THE FIRST TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO A DEALER. HE SAID THE TOTAL INTERGRATED POWER MODULE WAS BAD. THERE MUST ME A NUMBER OF THEM BAD BECAUSE HE SAID IT WOULD TAKE THREE WEEKS TO GET THE PART. MY WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON AND THE WIPERS. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE IT BECAUSE I DON'T KNOW WHAT ELSE MAY QUIT WORKING WHEN THIS HAPPENS AGAIN. *JB
WHILE DRIVING 70MPH ON THE FREEWAY, THE BACK PASSENGER TIRE BLEW. I TOOK IT TO A TIRE SHOP AND THEY STATED THE CAUSE WAS FROM TIRE SENSOR STEM BREAKING OFF THE TIRE, CAUSING THE TIRE TO BLOW. THEY ADVISED ME THAT THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY'S. IN FACT, CHRYSLER HAS RECENTLY CHANGED THE WAY THEY HAVE MADE THE SENSORS DUE TO THE ONGOING PROBLEM. WHY IS THERE NO RECALL ON THESE TIRE SENSORS? I HAD TO PURCHASE A 2 YEAR WARRANTY ON MY EXISTING TIRES JUST TO PROTECT MYSELF FOR ANY ADDITIONAL SENSOR ISSUES. TOO BAD IT WON'T PROTECT MY FAMILY WHEN THE TIRES BLOWS AGAIN AT 70MPH. *JS
WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AT 55MPH, DRIVERS SIDE REAR POWER OPERATED SLIDING DOOR STARTED TO OPEN. INFANT CHILDREN IN BACK SEATS, SECURED WITH SEAT BELTS IN CAR SEATS. PULLED OVER, STOPPED, AND DOOR RECLOSED ELECTRICALLY ON IT'S OWN. STARTED UP AND DROVE APPROXIMATELY 1/8 MILE AND DOOR STARTED TO OPEN AGAIN. PULLED OVER, AND DOOR CLOSED ON IT'S OWN. TRIED TO REOPEN WITH OUTSIDE HANDLE, AND SEEMED TO BE LOCKED. THEN AFTER DRIVING 10-15 MILES AND EXITING VEHICLE, DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN ELECTRICALLY. REPORTED CONDITION TO LOCAL CHRYSLER DEALER, ARRANGED FOR SERVICE AND WIRING HARNESS ON DOOR REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. (VEHICLE 36 MONTH WARRANTY JUST EXPIRED SAME DAY AS EVENT). *TR
ROUTINE BRAKE CHANGE AFTER FOUR MONTHS BRAKES WERE DOWN TO METAL. CHANGED BRAKES AGAIN REALIZED CALIPERS MUST BE STICKING. WHILE DRIVING DOWN HILLS IN THE MOUNTAINS BRAKES BEGAN TO SMOKE AND HAD DIFFICULTY STOPPING. *TR

THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V373000 (AIR BAGS, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) AND STATED THAT THE PART NEEDED FOR THE REPAIR WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCE A FAILURE. TIRE VALVE STEM BROKE OFF WHILE AT HIGHWAY SPEED ON AN EXPRESSWAY CAUSING THE TIRE TO IMMEDIATELY DEFLATE! I WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF ON THE SHOULDER AND REPLACED THE TIRE WITH A SPARE. FORTUNATELY, THE FLAT WAS ON THE RIGHT REAR TIRE. IF IT WAS ON THE FRONT I COULD HAVE LOST CONTROL AND COULD HAVE HAD A FATAL ACCIDENT. THE TIRE HAD TO BE PLACED AS WELL AS THE TPMS SENSOR. THE MECHANIC INFORMED ME THAT THIS PARTICULAR VALVE STEM IS MADE OF ALUMINUM AND CAN FATIGUE DO TO ROAD SALT AND CORROSION. SURLY THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND THE VEHICLE SHOULD BE RECALLED. DUE TO THE FEAR THAT THIS MIGHT HAPPEN AGAIN, I HAD THE REMAINING SENSORS REPLACED AT A SIGNIFICANT COST TO ME. PLEASE ADDRESS THIS ISSUE BEFORE PEOPLE ARE KILLED. *TR
OVER THE PAST 3 YEARS 3 OF MY 4 VALVE STEMS HAVE CRACKED AND FAILED. THESE WERE ALUMINUM STEMS ORIGINAL TO THE VEHICLE. THEY HAVE ALL CRACKED IN THE THREADS. TOTAL FAILURE RESULTS IN A SUDDEN LOSS OF ALL TIRE PRESSURE. *TR FORTUNATELY, ALL HAVE BROKEN WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS AT REST. TYPICALLY IT IS PROCEEDED BY A LOW TIRE PRESSURE WARNING, THEN WHEN THE VALVE STEM CAP IS REMOVED (TO ADD AIR) THE TOP PORTION OF THE STEM AND THE VALVE ITSELF COMES OFF (ONCE VIOLENTLY, SHOOTING THE VALVE ACROSS THE GARAGE).
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ACTIVATED, THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL BUT THE VEHICLE DID NOT RESPOND. THE CONTACT STOPPED THE VEHICLE AND AFTER DEPRESSING THE BRAKES NUMEROUS TIMES, HE WAS ABLE TO GET THE BRAKES TO RELEASE. THE CONTACT SMELLED A BURNING ODOR AND HEARD A WHISTLING SOUND COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY FOUR TIMES AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTICS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 44,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE HAVING THE TIRES REPLACED, THE VALVE STEM SEPARATED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE, BUT DENIED ANY ASSISTANCE WITH REPAIRS TO THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 55,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 35 MPH WHEN THE SKID CONTROL WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE ANTI-BRAKING SYSTEM ENGAGED. THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE AXLE THEN SEIZED, CAUSING THE TIRE TO GRIND AND FEEL AS IF IT WAS SLIPPING FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO REPLACED THE FRONT HUB ASSEMBLY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
ENGINE WOULD JUST SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING. WE HAVE TOLD THE CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP ATLAS 3 TIMES THAT THE ENGINE WOULD SHUT OFF MID DRIVING. THEY ALWAYS TOLD US THEY COULD NEVER FIND FAULT WITH THE VEHICLE AND THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG. NOW THERE IS A RECALL (R03/NHTSA 14V-73) THAT JUST CAME OUT AND IT'S THE SAME ISSUE.
ON 1-20-2012 THE DASH BOARD INDICATED THAT THE TWO REAR TIRES NEEDED AIR. I FILLED UP THE DRIVER REAR TIRE AND THEN AS SOON AS THE NOZZLE WAS PLACED ON THE VALVE STEM OF THE REAR PASSENGER TIRE, THE STEM BROKE AND THE TIRE WENT FLAT. THE SPARE TIRE WAS PLACED ON THE REAR PASSENGER TIRE. AS I WALKED AROUND REAR OF THE VEHICLE,I NOTICED THAT THE OTHER REAR TIRE WHICH I HAD JUST FILLED WAS FLAT. I PLACED AIR IN THE TIRE AND HEADED OUT.. I NEEDED TO STOP ANOTHER FOUR TIMES TO FILL THAT TIRE BEFORE REACHING MY DESTINATION. I CONTACTED GOLLING CHRYSLER ON TELEGRAPH ROAD IN BLOOMFIELD HILLS, MI. I SPOKE WITH THE SERVICE PERSON, ADAM, THE PROBLEM WAS FIXED IT IN ABOUT AN HOUR AND A HALF. MY DAUGHTER ADVISED ME THAT HER FATHER-IN-LAW HAD A SIMILAR PROBLEM WITH THE VALVE STEMS ON HIS CHYSLER VEHICLE. I ASKED ADAM ABOUT THE VALVE STEMS ON THE TWO FRONT TIRES. HE INDICATED THAT THOSE STEMS WERE CHECKED AND THERE WERE NO PROBLEMS WITH THEM. I ASKED HIM IF THERE WERE OTHERS WERE HAVING SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH THE VALVE STEMS. HE INDICATED THAT THEY WERE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THEM. I THEN ASKED HIM IF CHRYLSER WAS HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE STEMS WHY THE OTHER TWO STEMS HAD NOT BEEN REPLACED. HE ADVISED THAT CHRYSLER HAS INDICATED THAT GOOD STEMS SHOULD NOT BE REPLACED. I ASKED IF HE WOULD GUARANTEE THOSE TWO STEMS AND HE INDICATED HE WOULD NOT BECAUSE OF THE PROBLEMS THEY WERE HAVING. I AM NOT COMPLAINING ABOUT THE SERVICE I RECEIVED BUT THINK THAT THE PROBLEM IS KNOWN AND CHRYSLER DOES NOT WANT TO FIX THE PROBLEMS WITH THE OTHER STEMS. I CAN DEAL WITH ONE FLAT TIRE BUT NOT TWO AT ONE TIME. I BELIEVE THAT CHRYSLER, IF IT IS HAVING A PROBLEM WITH THE VALVE STEMS SHOULD FIX THE PROBLEM TO THE SATISFACION OF THE CUSTOMER. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE TIRE PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT THE VALVE STEM ON THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL WAS CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A TIRE SHOP. THE TECHNICIAN STATED TO THE CONTACT THAT THE VALVE STEM WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 49,000.
MY 2009 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY 4 LITER ENGINE STOPPED DEAD 3/4 MILE AFTER LEAVING HOME IN THE MORNING. I WAS DOING 15 MPH AT THE TIME. EVERYTHING STOPPED WORKING, I.E., THE POWER STEERING WAS UNMOVABLE AND THE POWER BRAKES WERE NON-RESPONSIVE. BECAUSE IT HAPPENED IN A CURVE, I ENDED UP IN THE ONCOMING LANE ON A SINGLE LANE ROAD. LUCKILY THERE WAS NO CAR IN THAT LANE. IN ADDITION, THE HEATING AND COOLING SYSTEM AND THE RADIO ALSO STOPPED. THE DASHBOARD WENT DARK. THERE WAS TOTAL SILENCE. AFTER ABOUT 45 SECONDS I RESTARTED THE CAR WITH NO PROBLEMS. I DROVE THE CAR TO THE NEAREST CHRYSLER DEALER WHOSE SERVICE ADVISOR ASKED WHETHER OR NOT A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AFTER THE EVENT SO THAT HE COULD GET THE FAILURE CODE. THE LIGHT DID NOT COME ON. THE DEALER'S SERVICE ADVISOR SAID THAT HE COULD NOT FIX THE PROBLEM WITHOUT THE FAILURE CODE. I HAVE DRIVEN THE MINIVAN FOR THE LAST 10 DAYS WITH NO PROBLEMS. NOW I AM UNCERTAIN IF AND WHEN THIS EVENT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN AND AM CONCERNED ABOUT MY SAFETY IN THE FUTURE.
WAS DRIVING ABOUT 20 TO 30 MPH, CROSSING OVER RAILROAD TRACKS THE VEHICLE CUT OUT AND COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN. HAD TO PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND ATTEMPT TO RESTART. IT RESTARTED AND DID NOT HAPPEN FOR A WHILE. THIS HAPPENS ON OCCASION AND IS AN ON GOING PROBLEM. HAD IT IN TO CHRYSLER DEALER AND THEY SAID THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. *TR
NOVEMBER 9, 2011 HAD TO REPLACE REAR BRAKES FOR THE 2ND TIME IN LESS THAN 2 YEARS IN OWNERSHIP OF VEHICLE. TIRE SENSOR FAILED AND TIRE DEPLOYED. APRIL 4, 2013 ADDITIONAL TIRE SENSORS BLOW OUT OR FAILED WITHOUT ANY PRIOR NOTIFICATION HAD TO REPLACE 3 TIRE SENSORS. BRAKES ALSO HAD TO BE REPLACED WITHIN A 15 MONTH PERIOD. LESS THAN 20,000 MILES. THERE IS CLEARLY SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE PRODUCTS/MATERIAL USED TO CONSTRUCT THIS VEHICLE. 2013 HEATING UNIT APPEARS TO OVERHEAT MY DRIVER SEAT CAUSING LEATHER ON SEAT TO BEGAN TO CRACK. CHRYSLER MOTORS WAS PLACE ON WRITTEN NOTICE OF THESE PROBLEMS AS EARLY AS JANUARY 18,2012 BUT FAILED TO RESPOND OR DO ANYTHING TO ADDRESS MY CONCERNS. *TR

THE FAILURE RECURRED WHENEVER THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED OVER 20 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,000.
BRAKES NEEDED REPLACING -ROTORS AND PADS AT 31,180 MILES.. CHRYSLER WAS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM ON THESE VEHICLES AND HAD OFFERED EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR THESE BRAKE REPAIRS/REPLACEMENT. CHRYSLER ACTED PROPERLY AT THIS POINT, BUT DID NOT REALLY FIX THE PROBLEM LONGER TERM AS WE HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE BRAKE ROTORS AND PADS TWICE MORE SINCE THEN. WE ARE CONSERVATIVE DRIVERS AND DO NOT RIDE THE BRAKE OR BRAKE HARSHLY UNLESS THERE IS AN EMERGENCY. OUR VEHICLE NOW HAS ONLY 56,600 MILES ON IT AND TWO MORE FRONT ROTOR AND PAD BRAKE REPLACEMENTS IN THE PAST TWENTY-FIVE THOUSAND MILES IS UNACCEPTABLE AND PERHAPS UNSAFE. WE ARE COMMUNICATING WITH BOTH THE DEALER AND WITH CHRYSLER, BUT BASED ON WHAT WE HAVE READ ONLINE OF OTHERS WITH THIS SAME TYPE PROBLEM, WE ARE NOT EXPECTING HELPFUL RESPONSES FROM EITHER THE DEALER OR CHRYSLER. *TR

SOMETIME IN THE BEGINNING OF OCTOBER 2011 WHILE CHECKING/ ADJUSTING THE AIR PRESSURE IN MY TIRES THE RH FRONT VALVE STEM SNAPPED OFF JUST BELOW WHERE THE VALVE CORE THREADS IN CAUSING A COMPLETE LOSS OF PRESSURE. THIS SEEMED LIKE A FLUKE PROBLEM, SO THE STEM WAS REPLACED AT MY OWN COST. TODAY, 12/1/2011, WHILE CHECKING/ ADJUSTING THE AIR PRESSURE AGAIN THE RH REAR VALVE STEM SNAPPED OFF JUST LIKE THE PREVIOUS ONE DID APPROX. 2 MONTHS AGO. SOME FLUKE OCCURRENCE? NOT TWICE. ONCE AGAIN THE PART WAS REPLACED AT MY OWN COST/ TIME SO WE WEREN'T DOWN A VEHICLE. IN MY OPINION IT APPEARS THAT THE METAL VALVE STEMS FOR THE TPMS ARE MADE OF A FAULTY GRADE METAL, AND OR THE VALVE CORES WERE OVER TORQUED, CAUSING A FRACTURE/ STRESS CRACK IN THE STEM. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET THIS SEEMS TO BE QUITE A PROBLEM WITH AT LEAST SEVERAL HUNDRED DODGE/ CHRYSLER OWNERS. IN A WAY THIS MAKES ME FEEL BETTER BEING IT'S NOT JUST ME THAT THIS IS HAPPENING TO, BUT IT'S DEFINITELY NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT. I OWN A 2009 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY TOURING. I NOW HAVE APPROXIMATELY 60,000 MILES ON IT. WE HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE BRAKES SEVERAL TIMES. SHORTLY AFTER REPLACING, THE BRAKES HAVE A HIGH PITCHED SQUEAL. WE HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THIS IS DUE TO EXTRA HARD BRAKE PADS. THE LAST FEW TIMES I HAD THE OIL CHANGED IN MY WIFE'S 2009 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY THE SERVICE PERSON REFUSED TO CHECK THE TIRE PRESSURE BECAUSE OF AN INHERENT CORROSION PROBLEM WITH THE CHRYSLER VALVE STEMS, WHICH ARE PART OF THE TPMS. THE RIGHT REAR VALVE STEM SUBSEQUENTLY FAILED AND THE DEALER WANTED TO CHARGE $120 TO REPLACE THE VALVE STEM. (THE VEHICLE HAS 38,000 MILES) ONLY AFTER EXTENDED COMPLAINING AND NOTING IT WAS A SAFETY ISSUE AND A COMMON PROBLEM WITH TOWN & COUNTRY'S DID THE DEALER AGREE TO FIX IT FOR FREE. WHILE THE TIRE MAINTAINED AIR PRESSURE AFTER THE VALVE STEM FAILED, I WAS UNABLE TO CHECK THE TIRE PRESSURE OR ADD AIR TO THE TIRE. MY CONCERN IS THE OTHER 3 VALUE STEMS ARE HEAVILY OXIDIZED AND IT WILL COST ME AND OTHER TOWN & COUNTRY OWNERS $300 - $400 TO CHECK TIRE PRESSURE OR ADD AIR INTO OUR TIRES. THE CHEAP SOLUTION IS TO REPLACE THE EXPENSIVE CHRYSLER VALVE STEMS WITH STANDARD TIRE VALVE STEMS. HOWEVER, THIS SOLUTION DISABLES THE TPMS WHICH I THOUGHT WAS A REQUIRED SAFETY SYSTEM. MY OTHER CAR WITH A TPMS HAS OVER 100,000 MILES HAS NO SUCH ISSUE WITH ITS VALVE STEMS OR TPMS. *KB
