THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE ABNORMALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRONT BRAKES, THE REAR BRAKES, THE ROTORS AND THE BRAKE PADS NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 16,460.
PREMATURE FAILURE OF IMPORTANT SAFETY EQUIPMENT - REAR BLIND SPOT SENSORS. DIAGNOSED WITH INTERNAL FAILURE AND COST OF REPAIRS WAS VERBALLY ESTIMATED BY DEALER AT CLOSE TO $3,000. SAFETY EQUIPMENT LIKE THIS, ONE OF THE REASONS THIS VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED BY AN ELDERLY COUPLE, SHOULD NOT FAIL THIS EARLY AND AT THIS EXPENSE. *TR

THE FAILURE RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS ADVISED THAT THE SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
ARRIVING IN A PARKING LOT, I PARKED MY CAR, OPENED THE TRUNK DOOR, AND BEGAN TO UNLOAD A STROLLER AND OTHER ITEMS OUT. I WALKED AROUND THE VEHICLE TO GET MY 3 YEAR OLD OUT OF HER SEAT. I INSTRUCTED HER TO WAIT BY HER DOOR. I BEGAN TO WALK AROUND THE VEHICLE TO GET MY 2 YEAR OLD OUT WHEN I HEARD THE TRUNK DOOR SLAM DOWN. I INSTRUCTED MY DAUGHTER BACK INTO HER SEAT AND BEGAN TO EVALUATE THE SITUATION. I COULD NOT SECURE THE TRUNK DOOR PROPERLY AND SO I DROVE TO AUTO REPAIR SHOP, WHO MANAGED TO TAKE SHOCK OUT CLAIMING THEY WERE GOOD BUT NOTICED IT BROKE OFF THE VEHICLE. HOWEVER, HE COULD NOT SECURE THE VEHICLE. DROVE TO ANOTHER AUTO SHOP WHO THEN WAS ABLE TO SECURE MY BACK DOOR AND COMMENTED HOW LUCKY WE WERE NOT TO HAVE BEEN SEVERELY INJURED FOR THE REASON THAT THE BACK DOOR IS EXTREMELY HEAVY. AS OF NOW, I AM IN SHOCK OF WHAT COULD OF HAPPENED ESPECIALLY BECAUSE MY DAUGHTER ALWAYS ALWAYS HELPS ME UNLOAD. *TR

WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY, THE BLIND SPOT SENSORS STOPPED WORKING. THEY WHERE FIXED IN MARCH, BUT KNOW AT 64,000 MILES THEY HAVE STOPPED WORKING AGAIN. THE BLIND SPOT LIGHTS STAY ON IN THE SIDE VIEW MIRRORS AND A WARNING POPS UP " BLIND SPOT UNAVAILABLE OR SERVICE BLIND SPOT." *JS

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT BOTH BLIND SPOT SENSORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. NO REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 43,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 45,000.

IN ADDITION, THE AUTOMATIC START FOB FAILED TO FUNCTION FOR MORE THAN TWO YEARS. THE DEALER (STEW HANSEN DODGE RAM CHRYSLER JEEP, 12103 HICKMAN RD, URBANDALE, IA 50323, (515) 331-2900) STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS EXCLUDED FROM A MANUFACTURER RECALL AND THAT THE TIPM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS EXCLUDED FROM A RECALL, BUT PROVIDED NO SOLUTION. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
BLIND SPOT DETECTION SENSORS FAILED DUE TO EXPOSURE TO SNOW AND SALT. DEALER STATED THEY HAVE REPLACED MANY OF THESE (PART NUMBER 6181175) AND ADVISED TO CALL CHRYSLER TO REPORT THE PROBLEM. CHRYSLER ACKNOWLEDGED THEY HAVE REPLACED MANY OF THESE SENSORS BUT SAID THEY WERE NOT GOING TO STAND BEHIND MINE. AT APPROXIMATELY $900 PER SENSOR I FEEL THEY SHOULD LAST LONGER THAN 3 YEARS, JUST AFTER MY WARRANTY RAN OUT. THE FAULTY SENSORS WERE ALSO CAUSING MY BACK-UP CAMERA TO FAIL DUE TO BLOWING A FUSE. I FINALLY HAD THE DEALER JUST DISABLE THE SENSORS SO MY BACK-UP CAMERA WOULD WORK BUT THE BLIND SPOT DETECTION SYSTEM WAS NO LONGER ENABLED. *TR
AT FIRST I RECEIVED OCCASIONAL WARNINGS THAT THE BLIND SPOT DETECTION WAS NOT WORKING. NORMALLY THIS WOULD CLEAR AFTER RESTARTING. THE PROBLEM BECAME MORE PRONOUNCED AND EVENTUALLY REMAINED ON. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND THEY SAID BOTH UNITS HAD FAILED AND THE COST FOR REPAIR WOULD BE OVER $2000. I HAVE DECIDED TO WAIT TO FIX IT BUT I AM DISAPPOINTED. THIS ADDED SAFETY FEATURE WAS ONE OF THE REASONS WHY I PURCHASED THE VAN. IS CHRYSLER DOING A RECALL ON THIS PART SINCE IT DOES SEEM TO FAIL REGULARLY? *TR
VEHICLE STARTED REMOTELY IN MY ATTACHED, CLOSED GARAGE. APPARENTLY THE REMOTE KEY SYSTEM WAS ACTIVATED BY SOME OTHER OBJECT IN MY POCKET, POSSIBLY MY CELL PHONE. I HEARD THE CAR HORN BLOW BRIEFLY, AND THE CAR START BECAUSE I WAS IN A ROOM ADJOINING THE GARAGE. I IMMEDIATELY WENT INTO THE GARAGE AND SHUT THE ENGINE OFF. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME I EXPERIENCED AN UNINTENTIONAL ENGINE START. THE FIRST TIME I WAS IN THE GARAGE. I FEEL THE REMOTE SHOULD REQUIRE 2 SIMULTANEOUS BUTTON PUSHES TO ELIMINATE THIS PROBLEM. I'M GLAD I WASN'T CHANGING AN ENGINE BELT WHEN THE ENGINE STARTED! *TR
THE "BLIND SPOT MONITORING AND CROSS PATH DETECTION" SAFETY FEATURE STOPPED WORKING. WE ARE GETTING A WARNING TO SERVICE THIS SAFETY ITEM. BLIND SPOT MONITOR DOES NOT WORK, WHICH PUTS US AND OTHERS AT RISK OF A CRASH. I SEE NUMEROUS OTHER COMPLAINTS ON THIS SAFETY ITEM. WE ARE GETTING ESTIMATES ON IT TODAY, BUT BASED ON OTHER COMPLAINTS, IT IS TOO EXPENSIVE TO REPAIR. I EXPECT CHRYSLER TO ADDRESS THIS SAFETY CONCERN AND REPLACE THESE DEFECTIVE UNITS AT THEIR COST AND MY INCONVENIENCE. *TR

AT 23,430 MILES, BRAKE ROTORS (ALL 4) EXCESSIVELY OUT OF ROUND. VEHICLE SHUDDERED UPON BRAKING, ESPECIALLY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. ALL 4 ROTORS WERE RESURFACED AT CHRYSLER DEALER. AGAIN, AT 28,630 MILES, SAME VEHICLE, BRAKE PADS DOWN TO 15% AND HAD TO REPLACE ALL 4 BRAKE PADS AND MACHINE ALL 4 ROTORS AGAIN AT SAME CHRYSLER DEALER. VEHICLE SHUDDERED SLIGHTLY UPON BRAKING ONCE AGAIN, ESPECIALLY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THESE INCIDENCES ARE ONLY 4,200 MILES AND 4 MONTHS APART, AND $1,000 OUT OF MY POCKET AND NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY, AS ARE SAID TO BE "NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR." REALLY? HMMM... *TR
BLIND SPOT DETECTOR STOPPED WORKING AT APPROXIMATELY 42,000 MILES. ALARM CAME ON SAYING "SERVICE BLIND SPOT SYSTEM" AND LIGHTS ON BOTH SIDE VIEW MIRRORS STAYS ON ALL THE TIME. THE CAR JUST GOT OUT OF WARRANTY AT 40,000 MILES AND THEY WANT TO CHARGE AROUND $1,400 FOR REAR MODULE AND AROUND $800 FOR FRONT MODULE TO FIX THE PROBLEM !! I THINK THAT'S A SCAM !!! I PURPOSELY PAID EXTRA JUST FOR THIS SAFETY FEATURE AND IT DOESN'T WORK FOR NO FAULT OF OURS !!! THIS IS A SAFETY PROBLEM BECAUSE THE CAR IS LARGE AND THE BABY'S CAR SEAT BLOCKS THE VIEW OUT OF THE REAR WINDOW !! WHILE ASKING AROUND I UNDERSTAND IT'S HAPPENED TO QUITE A FEW PEOPLE WHO OWN A TOWN AND COUNTRY AFTER THEY GET OUT OF THEIR WARRANTY ??? I SEE A PATTERN GOING ON HERE !!! PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS ISSUE. WHILE BRAKING, THERE IS A LOT OF SHUDDERING AND CLICKING FROM THE REAR BRAKES. CONCLUSION IS THAT THIS IS A WARPED ROTOR. CHRYSLER DEALER SAYS IT IS NORMAL, BUT THE VAN HAS LESS THAN 50,000 MILES. WHILE RESEARCHING ONLINE, FOUND THAT THIS IS A COMMON COMPLAINT. SOME HAVE REPLACED ROTORS SEVERAL TIMES WITH LESS THAN 50,000 MILES. THESE SHOULD BE REPLACED WITH BETTER PARTS AT THE DEALER, FOR FREE; HOWEVER, THEY REFUSE TO HONOR THEIR CUSTOMERS. *JS
WE PURCHASED THIS 2011 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY AS A NEW VEHICLE IN JAN.OF 2012. SINCE THE PURCHASE THERE HAVE BEEN 5 INCIDENTS WHERE THE VAN HAS LOST ALL ELECTRICAL POWER MAKING CLICKING NOISES, AND LEAVING US STRANDED. THE FINAL INCIDENT HAPPENED ON DEC. 26,2014 WHILE TRAVELING IN THE MOUNTAINS OF NORTH CAROLINA. IT WAS 10:30 PM, NO STREET LIGHTS AND NOTHING BUT STEEP TERRAIN ON THE SIDES. THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN AND WAS MAKING THE CLICKING NOISES.THE POWER STEERING WAS LOST, HEADLIGHTS OFF AND ALL OTHER ELECTRICAL FUNCTIONS WERE UNAVAILABLE. ONCE IN COMPLETE DARKNESS WE NOTICED WE HAD SHIFTED INTO THE ONCOMING LANE OF TRAFFIC. WE NOTICED HEADLIGHTS COMING AT US IN THE DISTANCE, LUCKILY QUICK THINKING AND USE OF A FLASHLIGHT WE WERE ABLE TO WARN THE ONCOMING VEHICLE OF OUR POSITION IN THEIR LANE. THEY STOPPED IN FRONT OF OUR VEHICLE AND TURNED ON THEIR HAZARDS TO PROVIDE WARNING FOR OTHER VEHICLES. BEING THAT WE WERE IN IMMINENT DANGER, I HAD TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY AND LET THE SYSTEM RESET. AFTER TAKING IT TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY ONCE AGAIN SAID THEY COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP ONLY STATED, " HAVE IT TOWED IN WHEN IT HAPPENS". BEING THAT THE LAST 2 TIMES THIS HAPPENED WE WERE LEFT STRANDED IN TRAFFIC, DURING LATE HOURS WITH ABSOLUTELY NO ELECTRICAL POWER AND MY CHILDREN IN THE CAR, IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO WAIT TO BE TOWED IN. THEY WERE UNSAFE SITUATIONS THAT POTENTIALLY HAD FATAL RESULTS. I HAD TO MAKE THE BEST DECISION AT THE TIME TO PROTECT MY FAMILY. I AM BEYOND FRUSTRATED WITH CHRYSLER FOR ALLOWING ME TO LEAVE THE SHOP EVERY TIME WITH NO SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM. MY KIDS ARE AFRAID TO GET IN VAN FOR FEAR OF BREAKING DOWN YET AGAIN. FIVE INCIDENTS WITH NO RESOLUTION, NO ONE KNOWS HOW TO FIX THE PROBLEM! A RECURRENT PROBLEM THAT CAN HAPPEN AT ANY POINT- WHILE ON A HIGHWAY OR GETTING THROUGH A BUSY INTERSECTION. *TR
TURN SIGNAL LAMP ON BOTH MIRRORS DEFECTIVE. COVER COMES OFF EXPOSING THE ELECTRICAL BOARD WITH THE LIGHTS. BOTH SIDES NOT FUNCTIONING. THIS APPEARS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE ON THE INTERNET. WE HAVE A CHRYSLER MAXIMUM CARE PLAN WHICH IT THE BEST WARRANTY CHRYSLER OFFERS BUT THIS PART IS NOT COVERED. THIS ITEM IS FOR ADDED SAFETY BUT NOT FUNCTIONING AND I'M CONCERNED EXPOSED ELECTRICAL BOARDS TO THE WEATHER COULD CAUSE A SHORT OR FIRE.

THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT IF THE PASSENGER DID NOT SECURE THE SEAT BELT, THE WARNING CHIME WOULD NOT COME ON. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE PASSENGER SEAT BELT WARNING CHIME WAS NOT DEFECTIVE AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE MANUFACTURER HAD DECIDED TO DISABLE THE FEATURE. THE BLIND SPOT INDICATOR SYSTEM HAS FAILED ON THE VAN. THE DEALER SAID IT WOULD COST $1000.00 FOR THE PART TO REPAIR IT. BECAUSE OF WATER, SNOW, SALT, THE SYSTEM FAILS AND NOW, A SAFETY FEATURE PURCHASED WITH THIS VEHICLE, IS NOW A HAZARD. WE HAD THE VAN INTO THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE SHOP AND THEY SAID IT WOULD TAKE A COUPLE OF MONTHS TO GET IN A REPLACEMENT. WHY ISN'T THIS BEING RECALLED AFTER READING OTHER RELATED ISSUES ON THE INTERNET? I AM NOT GOING TO PAY ALL THAT MONEY FOR A SAFETY FEATURE THAT SHOULDN'T FAIL SO QUICKLY AND THE GOVERNMENT NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS SINCE WE HAVE NO OTHER COURSE OF ACTION. *TR
I WAS NOTIFIED THAT THE REAR QUARTER VENT WINDOW SWITCH MAY OVERHEAT AND MAY CAUSE A BURNING ODOR, SMOKE,OR A DRIVERS DOOR FIRE WITHOUT WARNING. *TR
LIKE MANY OTHERS, MY CAR BEGAN TO SHUDDER WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. THIS WENT ON FOR A FEW MONTHS & GOT WORSE. I SAW THE MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS ON THIS WEBSITE OF PREMATURE BRAKE WEAR, AND BROUGHT IT TO THE ATTENTION OF THE DEALER WHEN I BROUGHT MY VEHICLE IN. I KNEW THE FINDING WAS GOING TO BE WARPED ROTORS & THAT WAS INDEED THE CASE. YES, THEY GAVE ME THE EXTENDED WARRANTY TO REPLACE THE FRONT BRAKE ROTORS & PADS AND ONLY CHARGED THE $100 COPAY. THEY OFFERED TO REPLACE THE REAR ROTORS FOR $300 OR RESURFACE FOR $130. I WENT WITH THE RESURFACING. AS WITH THE OTHERS, I DON'T SEE WHY WARPING OF THE ROTORS PREMATURELY ISN'T A DEFECT AND A SAFETY HAZARD! *TR
WHILE VACUUMING OUT MY CAR, THE REAR LIFT DOOR FELL ONTO MY HEAD. NO MAJOR INJURY BUT COULD HAVE BEEN. REPLACED REAR DOOR STRUTS WHICH COST ME 199.26 TOTAL. THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED BY THE MANUFACTURER AS THIS CAR IS ONLY 28 MONTHS OLD. NO EXCESSIVE USE OF DOOR. WE ARE TWO 60+ YEAR OLDS . THESE HAD TO BE DEFECTIVE PARTS. WE CHECKED WITH THE CHRYSLER DEALER WE PURCHASED IT FROM AND THEY TOLD US IT WAS NOT COVERED AND THEIR WAS NO RECALL. *TR
REVERSE SLIPPING / SHUDDER TRANSMISSION SLIPS AND SHUDDERS WHEN IN REVERSE ON EVEN A SLIGHT INCLINE AND SOMETIMES EVEN ON LEVEL GROUND. ON STEEPER UPHILL GRADE IT IS VERY HARD, ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO REVERSE. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER. THEY SAID THEY FOUND NO PROBLEM AND TESTS SHOWED EVERYTHING ACCORDING TO SPEC. AFTER BRINGING THE T&C IN BECAUSE OF FRONT END SHIMMY WHEN BREAKING, I WAS TOLD THE ROTORS WERE BAD/WARPED. 15000 MILES! I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT CHRYSLER HAS HAD PROBLEMS WITH BREAKS PREVIOUSLY AND A RECALL WAS PERFORMED BUT IT ENDED ON THE 2010 AND DID NOT COVER MY T&C; BUT THEY WOULD BE NICE AND JUST CHARGE ME $100.00, BECAUSE I HAD THE EXTENDED WARRANTY AND THAT WAS MY DEDUCTIBLE. ON ALL THREE OCCASIONS THE FAILURE IS THE RESULT OF WATER INFILTRATION INTO THE SENSOR WHICH BEGINS TO CAUSE OCCASIONAL FALSE POSITIVES WHICH INCREASE IN FREQUENCY, ULTIMATELY RESULTING IN THE COMPLETE FAILURE OF THE SENSOR. AT THE TIME OF INCIDENT WAS DRIVING ON A FREEWAY WERE SOME VIBRATIONS WHEN I PRESSED THE BRAKES FROM 60-65 MPH. WHILE I EXIT AND TO CHECK OUT I FELT SOME PULSATION ON THE BRAKE PEDALS IN ABOUT 10-15 MPH. I BROUGHT THE MINIVAN AT THE DEALER AND THEY SAID FRONT ROTORS ARE WARPED AND BRAKE PADS ARE NOT USABLE. THEY REPLACED THE FRONT ROTORS AND THE PADS AS PART OF THEY EXTENDED WARRANTY. I THINK CHRYSLER KNEW THAT'S THERE'S ISSUE THAT'S WHY THEY EXTEND THE WARRANTY. THEY TESTED AND AFTER THAT THEY SAID THERE'S PULSATION AND FOUND OUT THAT MY REAR ROTORS WERE BAD AS WELL AND NEEDED MACHINING TO MY EXPENSE @$300 BECAUSE THE EXTENDED WARRANTY IS ONLY FOR FRONT BRAKES. AFTER ABOUT 4,000 MILES DURING THE REGULAR OIL THEY RECOMMENDED ME THAT ON NEXT VISIT I HAVE TO CHANGE MY REAR BRAKES AS WELL TO MY EXPENSE. I THINK THIS ISSUE HAS NOT BEEN FIXED. WE DRIVE AS NORMAL, WE DON'T DRAG BRAKES BUT WITHIN 15,000 MILES I THINK PREMATURE BRAKE WEAR ON BOTH SIDES IS NOT NORMAL. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN.
