While driving at about 30 mph the engine suddenly quit and would not immediately restart. The electrical system was shut down and electric door latches would not function. This vehicle recently had a new battery installed after it periodically failed to start. After having the car towed to the dealership and sitting for several days, it restarted. Dealership mechanics could not find a problem.
CAR IS OVERHEATING RAPIDLY, AIR IS WARM ON ONE SIDE, COLD ON THE OTHER. ENGINE WILL BEGIN STEAMING ALMOST AS THOUGH IT IS ABOUT TO CATCH FIRE AND THERE IS OFTEN TIMES A SMELL LIKE SOMETHING IS BURNING COMING FROM THE ENGINE. IF THE CAR IDLES FOR EVEN JUST AT A STOP LIGHT OR THE CAR IS SLOWED DOWN, THE CAR BEGINS TO OVERHEAT RAPIDLY. IT HAS ALSO BEEN OVERHEATING WHILE BEING DRIVEN AT 70 MPH. THE FANS ARE NOT ALWAYS KICKING IN EITHER.
TEMPERATURE GAUGE ALARM CAME ON WHILE DRIVING AND NOTICED THE GAUGE SHOWED IT WAS REALLY HOT. PULLED OVER TO LET IT COOL DOWN AND NOTICED THE FAN UNDER THE HOOD WASN'T RUNNING TO HELP COOL IT DOWN.
MY ENGINE STARTS SHAKING WHEN I CUT MY CAR ON
The contact owns a 2014 Dodge Avenger. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the check engine and electronic throttle warning lights remained illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle lost motive power. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who replaced the electronic throttle body and the computer wiring harness however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 30,000.
WAS NOTIFIED BY MY MECHANIC THAT THERE IS A NATIONWIDE SHORTAGE ON DODGE AVENGER ENGINE MANIFOLDS. THE MANIFOLD IN MY CAR HAD A HUGE CRACK AND WAS EMITTING EXHAUST FUMES INTO THE CABIN OF THE VEHICLE WHEN STARTING UP THE CAR WHILE THE ENGINE WAS COLD. WE COULD SMELL THE FUMES AND IT WAS MAKING US SICK. OUR MECHANIC WAS NOT ABLE TO GET A REPLACEMENT FOR A BRAND NEW PART AND HAD IT SENT TO A PROFESSIONAL WELDER TO FIX THE DAMAGE MANIFOLD IN LIEU OF WAITING A LONG PERIOD OF TIME TO GET A NEW MANIFOLD SENT TO HIM.
ENGINE FAILURE TWICE IN A YEAR AND CAUSED BY PARTS THAT WAS APPARENTLY NOT UNDER WARRANTY.
CAR WILL STALL AT VARIOUS SPEEDS WITHOUT WARNING. NO DASH WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATE PRIOR TO STALLING. DRIVER LOSSES POWER STEERING WHEN ENGINE STALLS AND CAR CANNOT BE MANEUVERED OUT OF TRAFFIC. VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. FIRST OCCURRED ON STATE HIGHWAY AT 50MPH IN BUSY RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC.
THE OIL FILTER HOUSING IN THE 3.6L PENTASTAR V6 IS A NOTORIOUS DESIGN FLAW THAT HAS AFFECTED THOUSANDS OF CONSUMERS ACROSS THE GLOBE IN VEHICLES SUCH AS THE DODGE AVENGER, DODGE CHARGER, CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY, AND JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. ONLINE RESOURCES REGARDING THIS FLAW ARE NOT HARD TO FIND. ALL IT REQUIRES IS A SIMPLE SEARCH ON GOOGLE TO FIND THE HUNDREDS OF REVIEWS AND POSTINGS OF SIMILAR SITUATIONS REGARDING THE OIL FILTER HOUSING BY OWNERS OF VEHICLES USING THE 3.6L PENTASTAR V6. THE SHEER NUMBER AND FREQUENCY OF THIS PROBLEM REINFORCES THE LEGITIMACY AND CREDIBILITY OF THIS COMPLAINT. THIS DESIGN FLAW HOWEVER, IS NOT ONLY SPECIFIC TO THE WEAKNESS OF THE PLASTIC CONNECTING CAP ON THE OIL FILTER HOUSING (WHICH IS PRONE TO CHIPPING AND CRACKING) BUT IN THE PLACEMENT OF THIS WEAK PART DEEP WITHIN THE ENGINE ' REQUIRING MANDATORY PROFESSIONAL MAINTENANCE TO BE ADMINISTERED. THIS OIL FILTER HOUSING IS EFFECTIVELY A TICKING TIME-BOMB WITHIN ALL 3.6L PENTASTAR V6 ENGINES WHICH SADLY AWAITS ALL CONSUMERS. NOT ONLY IS THIS AN INCONVENIENCE FOR CONSUMERS ' HAVING TO PAY DEALERSHIPS $600+ TO HAVE THE PART REPLACED, BUT A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN ON MANY LEVELS. A FEW EXAMPLES ARE: (1) THE LEAKING OF OIL CAUSED BY THE INEVITABLE CRACKING OF THE OIL FILTER HOUSING CAUSES THE ENGINE TO REACH DANGEROUS LEVELS OF HEAT AND DEGRADE AT A MUCH FASTER RATE. (2) EXPOSED OIL RESTING ON THE ENGINE NEAR THE HOUSING MAY IGNITE CAUSING AN ENGINE FIRE. (3) MORE SPECIFIC TO MY SITUATION, THE LOSS OF OIL MAY OCCUR WHILE DRIVING IN MOUNTAINOUS TERRAIN ' WHERE THE RESPONSIVENESS OF YOUR ENGINE MAY BE DIRECTLY CORRELATED TO YOUR CHANCES OF SURVIVAL. IT IS UNFATHOMABLE TO THINK THAT AFTER THE MANY THOUSANDS OF SIMILAR INSTANCES CONSUMERS HAVE FACED REGARDING THE FLAWED PART, THAT A RECALL HAS NOT BEEN PUT INTO PLACE. ESPECIALLY WHEN THE FLAW POSES SUCH AN INCREDIBLE SAFETY HAZARD.
I BOUGHT THIS CAR AT A DEALERSHIP ON JULY 30, 2018 WITH 58,200 MILES. IT WAS PARKED IN THE GARAGE FROM 9/7/18 WHILE WAITING FOR THE PERMANENT TAG BECAUSE THE TEMPORARY TAG EXPIRED. AFTER A WEEK I NOTICED OIL ON THE FLOOR AND DECIDED TO TAKE IT TO A DEALERSHIP. I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. LUCKILY, I WAS NOT SPEEDING, THE CAR WAS PUSHED TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP. THE NEXT DAY AFTER DIAGNOSES, WE WERE TOLD IT WAS THE ENGINE AND WE NEED TO TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP TO FIX IT BECAUSE WE JUST BOUGHT THE CAR FROM THEM. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME, I NEED $6,000.00 TO CHANGE THE ENGINE. THE MILEAGE WAS ABOUT 61,000 WHEN THE CAR WAS RETURNED. NOW, I DON'T HAVE A CAR AND IN THE HOLE FOR OVER $11,000.00 THE DEALERSHIP IS JUST GIVING ME THE RUN AROUND AT THIS TIME. DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO. DODGE DOES NOT PARTICIPATE ARIZONA FOR LEMOM LAW.
I KEEP MY CAR MAINTAINED ON SCHEDULE. I TOOK MY CAR FOR A ROUTINE OIL CHANGE, WAS ADVISED OF NEEDING TO DO A FLUSH. EVER SINCE THE FLUSH WAS DONE, MY CAR HAS NOT DRIVEN OR PERFORMED AS SHOULD HAVE. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON AND DOES NOT GO OFF. I DO MORE HIGHWAY THAN CITY DRIVING SO IT ISN'T NOTICED ON HIGHWAY. THE VEHICLE DOES RUN ROUGH AT A STOP, AS A STOP SIGN OR RED LIGHT.
CAR HESITATES WHEN TRYING TO GET UP TO SPEED ON THE FREEWAY TO PASS OR EVEN AT A COMPLETE STOP.HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES AND MULTIPLE SPEEDS.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED A NEW THROTTLE BODY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE DEALER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL FOR THE FAILURE AND OFFERED NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 50,000.
ON NOVEMBER 3RD MY CAR OVER HEATED. I HAVE TO GET IT TOWED AWAY TO THE DEALERSHIP. SAME DEALERSHIP I BOUGHT MY CAR FROM. AFTER THEY DIAGNOSED MY CAR THEY SAID THE HOSE BROKE AND OVER HEATING MELTED MY SENSORS. THEY ASKED ME $773.55 FOR REPAIRING. ON GOOD FAITH I TOOK MY CAR FROM THE DEALERSHIP. JUST AFTER 2 WEEKS, A DAY BEFORE THANKS GIVING MY CAR OVER HEATED AGAIN. AGAIN I HAVE TO GET IT TOWED AWAY AGAIN TO THE DEALER SHIP. MY CAR HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP FOR MORE THAN 12 DAYS. AT FIRST THEY ARE SAYING THAT MY GAS KIT BLEW AND THEN LATER THEY SAID THEY HAVE TO REPLACE MY ENGINE. MY CONCERN HERE IS THAT WHY WAS IT NOT DONE ON THE FIRST ATTEMPT. I BORROWED MONEY AGAINST MY 401K PLAN AND I CANT TAKE ANOTHER LOAN TO GET IT FIXED. MY WIFE IS STAGE 3 CANCER PATIENT. WE DO NOT HAVE ENOUGH MONEY. I BELIEVE RENTON CAR PROS DODGE AND CHRYSLER SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR. THEY SHOULD HAVE FIXED IT ON THE VERY FIRST TIME. THEY ACTUALLY SOLD ME A DEFECTIVE CAR. WHICH CAR REALLY BREAKS DOWN WITHIN 4 YEARS.

ON DECEMBER 10, 2016, I TOOK MY 2014 DODGE AVENGER IN FOR DIAGNOSIS/REPAIR BECAUSE THE ENGINE WAS STALLING/SHUTTING OFF WHEN STOPPED OR GETTING READY TO STOP. NOTHING WAS FOUND. ON DECEMBER 13, 2016;MY VEHICLE SHUT DOWN TWICE WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH COMING VERY CLOSE TO GETTING HIT IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. I WAS TOLD THAT THE TIPM (TOTALLY INTEGRATED POWER MODULE) NEEDED REPLACEMENT. MY VEHICLE IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY, THANKFULLY! ! THIS PART HAS A 2-YEAR WARRANTY ONLY! ONCE TOLD OF THE TIPM ISSUE, I WENT ONLINE AND RESEARCHED THIS PART. I SAW MANY MODELS HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND THAT CHRYSLER HAD SETTLED A LAWSUIT OVER THOUSANDS/MILLIONS OF 2007-2014 CHRYSLER VEHICLES WITH DEFECTIVE TIPM'S. JUST LAST WEEK I SAW A DODGE CHARGER ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND WONDER IF THIS WAS THE SAME ISSUE AS MINE. AT THIS POINT, I CAN'T REFER ANYONE TO BUY ANY CHRYSLER VEHICLE.....SUCH A SHAME BECAUSE I REALLY LOVE MY CAR, BUT AFTER THIS ORDEAL, I'M PARANOID WONDERING WHAT ELSE WILL GO WRONG!! *TR
