NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2015 Dodge Challenger. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
The vehicle's engine has suffered a catastrophic internal failure at approximately 56,000 miles. The engine is the 6.4-liter HEMI V8. The issue began with a loud ticking noise from the engine. I brought the vehicle to Stoneridge Chrysler Jeep Dodge of Pleasanton for diagnosis. At that visit, the dealership lubricated an unspecified component and instructed me to continue driving. The ticking noise temporarily subsided. Shortly after, the check engine light illuminated. I returned the vehicle to the same dealership, where the technician retrieved diagnostic trouble code P0303 (cylinder 3 misfire). Upon further inspection, the technician found scoring on the cylinder 3 wall, a persistent loud ticking noise from the engine, and metal contamination in the engine oil sample. The dealership diagnosed the failure as requiring a complete engine long block replacement at a quoted cost exceeding 23,000. The powertrain warranty has expired based on the 3-year time limit; however, the vehicle has fewer than 56,000 miles, which is well below the warranty's mileage threshold and exceptionally low for a vehicle of this age. The vehicle has been properly maintained throughout ownership with regular oil changes and scheduled service intervals. No aftermarket modifications have been made; the engine and all related components remain factory stock. I contacted Stellantis customer care to request assistance. They stated that because the vehicle is no longer under warranty, there is nothing they can do, and that the dealership should have submitted a goodwill assistance request on my behalf. The dealership said they would look into it. A complete engine failure at this mileage on an engine marketed as a high-performance powerplant suggests a manufacturing or material defect rather than normal wear and tear.
Drive shaft broke and my car is not on recall list . It has under 60000 miles. Manual
Odometer Fraud. The contact purchased a 2015 Dodge Challenger. The contact then discovered that there was a mileage discrepancy. The vehicle was a dealer sale. At the time of purchase, the vehicle mileage was 138,160, and at the time of registration, it was discovered that the mileage was 222,348.
Back Up Camera is glitching and not detecting items behind me. I noticed that this item was a recall at one time but when I put my VIN it does not indicate a recall.
My SHIFTER is messing up again recall U4 i believe and my its a recall on my vehicle ive had this vehicle for 2 years they stated the previous owner already had repaired but im imforming them i am still having the issue my car will literally stop going in the middle of the highway. Ive almost been close to getting in a accident and all everyone can say is it has already been repaired but i want them to understand that it may was repaired but it wasnt done correctly because something is wrong with my shifter/trasmission and electrical system. Which are both two valid recalls that i have. My shifter just blinks out of nowhere and just will stop at any moment. If the person behind me wasnt paying attention i couldve died or been harm seriously due to this keep happening while i am driving on the highway.
One day after driving home from work there was a message that says low battery voltage on the instrument panel, then it went away. No other warning lights or problems. Ten more miles down the road the message says battery saver mode, reduced functions and then the car started to smoke, I am freaked out at this point praying to make it home safely. I arrive home and pull into driveway and then turn engine off and let it cool. Lift the hood and coolant has sprayed and spewed all over the engine compartment and is significantly reduced. Now parked, engine off the shift lights are still on and navigation panel and radio won't turn off. I had to unplug the battery completely and manually lock the car. The next day I replace the battery, check coolant, and allow car to warm up. No warning lights or messages. Then I start to drive and less than ten min, battery saver mode again, reduced function and power then engine smoking again, coolant spraying under hood and I have no idea what's wrong. Could it be the alternator, everything is still factory parts. Never happened when I changed the battery in 2022. This is scary.
The contact owns a 2015 Dodge Challenger. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, while attempting to fasten the passenger’s side seat belt, the seat belt failed to retract. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the retractor mechanism had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.
Passenger seat sliding mechanism not locking / latching properly. When coming to a stop the passenger seat will slide forward, sometimes an inch or two but sometimes further. This is a very well know issue I have discovered across multiple internet message boards and is due to inadequate slide bearings, and has been ongoing for years.
The contact owns a 2015 Dodge Challenger. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact heard an abnormal ticking sound coming from the engine compartment. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 120,000.
Fuel tank fill side housing cracked.
On [XXX], I was involved in a serious motor vehicle collision in Arkansas while driving my Dodge Challenger. The crash was severe enough that the vehicle was declared a total loss. Despite the severity of the collision and significant front-end damage, none of the airbags deployed at any point during the crash. As a result of the collision and the failure of the airbag system to deploy, I sustained physical injuries and required approximately nine months of medical treatment and physical therapy. Based on the severity of the impact and the level of damage to the vehicle, I believe the airbags should have deployed and that their failure may indicate a defect in the airbag system or crash detection sensors. I am submitting this complaint so the incident can be investigated as a potential safety defect. I am concerned that this issue could pose a serious safety risk to other drivers if the airbag system fails to deploy in similar collisions.
2015 Dodge Challenger- Consumer is writing in about the drive shaft on the vehicle. After visiting local repair man, consumer was told the vehicle is unsafe to drive. Consumer called Dodge and received "same old answer, we have no parts".
The contact owns a 2015 Dodge Challenger. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle was bouncing. The contact related the failure to a faulty carrier bearing in the driveshaft; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000.
the seat belts in the rear are guided through a metal D ring that has a plastic housing. This housing cracks and prevents the seat belts from retracting. This issue relays to most dodge, jeep chrysler products that all utilize the same part for front and rear seat belts. The issue has been acknowledged for front seat belts but not rear.
My back up camera works when it wants to sometimes and then other times it’s all blurry and can’t see also I get a light on for my brake system that goes on and off
42,000 miles drive shaft failure. Dealer stated drive shaft is ready to fall off. Completely stock vehicle, 1 owner.
"Turn signal indicator lamp out" shows frequently on the dash display. It will remain on for 3-10 seconds and go off. Upon inspection, ALL EXTERIOR LAMPS function perfectly fine. Even when turn indicator on the dash blinks rapidly, the exterior lamps blink normally. It also dings when the indicator comes on. This just started about six weeks ago. This issue tells the driver that a lamp is out, when in reality it is not. It is very frustrating, as it may occur as often as every five minutes. I have talked to three independent repair shops, as well as three Dodge dealerships. I received basically the same response from all three dealerships, "We have no idea what may be causing this, but leave it with us for a day, and we will investigate. At $182 per labor hour. And we may not find the problem." I would have happily have paid for an hour or so of tracing, but a day?
adaptive cruise and forward collision warning failed regularly for 10 months. dealers worked to find issue after having car in shop for collectively about 3 months. Dealer replaced parts, and finally determined it was a 4G adapter sold by Uconnect- a part of Dodge parent corp. Mopar tech's were aware of it, yet to my knowledge they still sell the 4G service. Use of the adapter with remote start disables FCW and ACC. I have pictures and documentation. They should stop selling this or fix software.
I hadn’t on my car for very long when I stepped on the brakes and my passenger seat flew clear up to the dash. When I stopped and looked at it, they were little metal teeth all over the place underneath the seat. It won’t go all the way up and lock it will only go all the way back and semi lock. If there’s someone sitting in the passenger seat when I press on the brakes, it moves up a few inches and then back it will not lock completely
The back up camera cuts on and off and doesn’t work most of the time and then my abs and traction control light comes on and off
Car was making a noise in motion only. I had the car inspected and noted on inspection the drive shaft was deteriorating. The car was inspected by Car-X and Sam Leman dealership. The mechanics advised the car was not safe to drive. The drive shaft was replaced by Sam Leman Dodge of Peoria.
The contact owns a 2015 Dodge Challenger. The contact stated while driving the vehicle at various speeds, there was a loud noise coming from the engine compartment. The contact stated that there was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a local mechanic where it was diagnosed with needing the driveshaft replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in a recall. The failure mileage was approximately 49,700.
I purchased my vehicle new as a 2015. The HVAC blower motor has gone out so quickly and is rattling. It has been about two days when it started out of nowhere and as of today, the blower is not blowing anything out. It should last for 10-20+ years. My wife had the same issue with her BMW and it burned out and black smoke came out the vents. The wires were scorched. This is a safety issue due to fires. I have done research and vehicles have caught fire because of this problem in vehicles. Please advise and thank you. The center support carrier bearing for the driveshaft has failed, causing the driveshaft to drop, rub the heat shield causing a bad noise, the rear end is swaying, and there are mobility issues. I know of other people that have the same problem. You cannot replace the center bearing. You have to purchase the WHOLE driveshaft/driveline, which becomes an even bigger problem when they are on NATIONAL BACKORDER! My challenger has less than 98,000 miles. I have no other vehicle. This is a widespread problem. The whole part costs over $1100.
WHILE UNLOADING ITEMS FROM THE TRUNK OF MY 2015 DODGE CHALLENGER, I HAD THE MISFORTUNE OF THE TRUNK LID FALLING MY HEAD AND ALMOST KNOCKING ME OUT. THE TRUNK WILL NOT STAY UP ON ITS OWN (ESPECIALLY WHEN PARKED ON AN INCLINE). THE WEIGHT OF THE TRUNK IS TOO HEAVY FOR THE STRUTS THAT ARE DESIGNED FOR IT. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME THE STRUTS HAVE FAILED ON THE TRUNK OF THIS VEHICLE AND HAVE BEEN REPLACED BY A DODGE OEM DEALER (APPROX 2 YEARS AGO). I FEEL LIKE THIS COULD BE A SAFETY ISSUE FOR OTHER DODGE OWNERS IN THE FUTURE.
I PURCHASED A 2015 CHALLENGER, UPON DRIVING THE VEHICLE HOME NOTICED THE AXLES MAKING A NOISE. A WEEK LATER THE NOISE BECOMES WORSE I ALERT THE DEALERSHIP AND BRING THE CAR IN. THEY TELL ME THAT IT'S COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND THEY PROMISE THAT WHEN I FINALIZE FINANCING THE WILL FIX IT. UPON FINALIZING FINANCING THE CAR FAILS INSPECTION AND THE WARRANTY IS REMOVED DUE TO THE PREEXISTING ISSUES WITH THE CAR. THUS RESULTING REPAIR COST COMING OUT MY POCKET FOR A CAR I HADN'T HAD A WEEK. NEXT I RUN INTO A ISSUE THE WITH ENGINE. I TAKE IT TO GET A DIAGNOSTIC AND THE TECHNICIAN SHOWS ME THE HISTORY OF THE CAR STATING THAT IT HAD A REPLACEMENT ENGINE INSTALLED IN THE PAST. THE DEALER NEVER MENTIONED THE REPAIRS TO ME BEFORE FINALIZING THE DEAL ONCE SO EVER. NOW I BROUGHT IT TO THEIR ATTENTION AND THEY'RE TELLING ME THAT I CAN TRADE IT IN BUT THERE'S NOTHING THEY CAN DO. THE DEALERSHIP IS RICK HENDRICKS CHEVROLET IN DULUTH GEORGIA, 3277 SATELLITE BLVD. THE DEALERSHIP GOES UP AND BEYOND TO AVOID ME, EVEN WHILE THE CAR WAS IN THEIR POSSESSION FOR REPAIRS FOR WEEKS. THEY NEVER FIXED ANYTHING IN THE CAR. I HAVE VIDEO PROOF OF THEM MESSING UP THE CAR AND JUST LEAVING IT FOR ME TO DEAL WITH. I ALSO HAVE VOICE RECORDED CONVERSATIONS WITH SALES ASSOCIATE MANAGERS AT THE DEALERSHIP WHO LIED TO ME AND MY FATHER IN OUR FACES ABOUT CERTAIN INFORMATION REGARDING THE DEAL.
My car started giving warning signal on dashboard and would not function properly my car speed wouldn't stop and wouldn't break I ran off road and wrecked no other vehicles were involved and my airbag did not deploy when I wrecked no airbags came out but my computer is still showing airbag system needs service my airbags did no come out, the steering wheel cover popped off and the roof panels are popped out of seams but no air bags came out at all my cruise control is not working now and my seatbelt would not unlock when I wrecked now the seatbelt alarm will not stop going off even when it's buckled I'm now having electricel issues and service warnings that' came on before car wrecked are all still on I have had some body work fixed since wreck but stopped having things fixed from wreck on car because I'm scared to drive it now I feel unsafe I don't know what to expect I'm scared airbags are gonna pop out now since they already went off and nothing came out I have not had it checked or taking it to dealership since it's been in shop for some of the body work repair but I never finished repairs I spent 4200 in body work and more is needed but I'm scared to drive my car it's got to much crazy stuff going on all the dash readings are still showing and the reading for airbag that is still on
I WAS TRAVELING DOWN BEAR VALLEY ROAD AT ABOUT 50MPH AND I STRUCK ANOTHER VEHICLE AND NONE OF MY AIR BAGS DEPLOYED I SUFFERED A CONCUSSION
At less than 70k miles, with full periodic servicing done by Dodge dealer (Moss Bros, San Bernardino, CA) all 12 engine rocker arm mounts failed and had to be replaced at a cost of $1,600. This is a common problem in a 3.6L Pentastar V-6 engine, per internet owner reports on Dodge internet groups. Not caused by normal wear and tear, shouldn't be happening at 60-70k miles.
2 ISSUES HERE. RECALLS ARE FOR UB4 EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS CANISTER AND V86 CATALYTIC CONVERTER. BEEN TRYING TO SCHEDULE THIS FOR 8 MONTHS. FCA AND DODGE HAVE A SUPPLY ISSUE. CANNOT GET PARTS. IMO THIS IS A MASSIVE FAILURE. HOW ARE WE SUPPOSED TO COMPLY IF THE COMPANY CANNOT ISSUE PARTS? IT IS BEYOND RIDICULOUS.
THE VEHICLE HAD A RECALL ABOUT THE THE PCM SO I TOOK IT TO A LOCAL DEALER TO HAVE IT REPAIRED AND AFTER I FELT AS IF NOTHING WERE DONE TO FIX MY CAR SO I TOOK IT TO ANOTHER DEALER ABOUT AN HOUR AND A HALF AWAY AND WHEN I GOT MY CAR BACK THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON AND THE GUY DIDN'T KNOW WHAT HE WAS TALKING ABOUT GIVING FALSE INFORMATION ABOUT MY CAR AND TELLS ME I NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION SO EVEN THEN I STILL KNOW NOTHING WAS DONE TO FIX MY CAR MY PCM IS GETTING WORSE AND NOW AFFECTING. MY TRANSMISSION CONTROL UNIT SHIFTING. THE CAR WON'T GO INTO FIRST GEAR AND WHEN GOING INTO 5TH GEAR IT KICKS AND WHIPLASHES ME.
MY HEADLIGHT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE KEEPS GOING OUT WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE FREEWAY. IT'S OUT FOR A FEW DAYS AND THEN IT COMES BACK ON FOR A FEW DAYS AND AGAIN IT'S OUT. THE DEALERSHIP DID A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND STATED THAT THE HEADLIGHT WAS GOOD.
CARRIER BEARING/DRIVESHAFT NEEDS REPLACEMENT AFTER 49000 MILES. KNOCKING VIBRATING NOISE COMING FROM DRIVESHAFT WHEN DRIVING.
THE STABILITY CONTROL ICON COMES ON, SOMETIMES IT GOES AWAY. RECENTLY IT HAS STAYED ON FOR COUPLE OF DAYS. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND IT WENT AWAY . THE DEALER SAID IF THERE IS NO LIGHTS ON DISPLAY THEY CAN'T SERVICE THE ISSUE.
VERY HARD SHIFT FROM 4TH GEAR TO 5TH AND ALSO WHEN I PUT IT IN DRIVE FROM PARK IT TAKES A WHILE FOR THE GEAR TO KICK IN. BECAUSE OF THIS MY CAR IS RUNNING AT A HIGH COOLANT TEMP. I WILL BE DRIVING NORMALLY AND WHEN 4TH GEAR SWITCHES TO 5TH GEAR THE CAR REVS UP AND KICKS FORWARD I ALMOST HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME IT IS UNSAFE.
SERVICE SHIFTER ON DASH ON START OF VEHICLE, CAME TO A STOP TO PARK AND LIGHTS ON SHIFTER GO OUT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 DODGE CHALLENGER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE CLUTCH FAILED TO OPERATE AS DESIGNED CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO STALL WITHOUT WARNING. DUE TO THE FAILURE, THE CONTACT TOWED THE VEHICLE TO KEY AUTO MALL (3700 16TH ST, MOLINE, IL 61265) WHERE THEY VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A DEFECTIVE PRESSURE PLATE INSIDE OF THE CLUTCH ASSEMBLY. THE VEHICLE REMAINED IN THE POSSESSION OF THE DEALER AND HAD YET TO BE REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD YET TO BE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 26,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
MY UCONNECT SCREEN HAS WENT BLACK AND SPORT BUTTON DEACTIVATED. PASSENGER SEAT NOT CLICKING IN PLACE. *TR
GAUGE CLUSTER BLINKING OFF, OR RESETTING, WHILE DRIVING.
CAR SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 70 MPH. WAS ABLE TO RESTART AND THEN IT SHUT OFF AGAIN AND WOULDN'T START, THE SHOP SAYS IT IS THE FUEL POWER CONTROL MODULE, $1,500 PART REQUIRING COMPLETE REWIRING FOR A TOTAL REPAIR COST OF $2,200 AND STILL WAITING FOR REPAIR COMPLETION AFTER ALMOST 2 WEEKS. I AM NOT SURE THAT THIS WILL REPAIR THE PROBLEM...
BOTH MY 2015 CHALLENGERS HAVE THE SAME DASH LIGHTS ON TRACTION CONTROL,ABS, AND BRAKE LIGHT. HAPPENED WITH VEHICLE WITH VIN [XXX] FIRST AND BEGINNING OF THAT YEAR AND AROUND MAY SAME LIGHTS CAME ON IN MY OTHER 2015 CHALLENGER AND THEN BATTERY LIGHT STARTED TO GO ON AND OFF THEN FINALLY JUST STAYED ON SO I CHANGED BATTERY AND NOTHING CHANGED BUT POWER IS BEING USED SOMEWHERE AND VOLTAGE STAYS AROUND 13.0 AND SOME OTHER ISSUES WITH GPS AND COMPASS ILL BE HEADING STRAIGHT NORTH AND IT WILL JUST KEEP CHANGING NORTH SOUTH EAST WEST AND MY GPS WILL SHOW MY CAR GLITCHING BACK AND FORTH ON SCREEN HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO GET EITHER CAR TO DEALER CAUSE DON'T HAVE A SPARE CAR AT THE MOMENT. *TR
THE WINDOWS IN MY 2015 CHALLENGER IS GOING UP AND DOWN BY THEMSELVES, GETS STUCK, AND THEN WON'T GO BACK UP. ALSO THE ENGINE COILS IN MY CAR BURNT OUT AND WAS LEAKING OIL ALL THROUGH MY CAR. WHEN I GOT IT FIXED, THE OLD COILS WERE FROM THE MANUFACTURE AND HAD A BROKEN SEAL. WAS TOLD THAT MY CAR SHOULD'VE CAUGHT ON FIRE WITH THE AMOUNT OF OIL THAT WAS LEAKING.
......
CYLINDER 2 MISFIRE CULMINATED IN A DIAGNOSES OF A CHEWED CAMSHAFT. KNOWN BUT UNACKNOWLEDGED ISSUE WITH POOR LUBRICATION TO THE LIFTERS -- OWNER NORMALLY FORCED TO PAY FOR CAMSHAFT AND LIFTER REPLACEMENT.
THE FUSES THAT RUN TO BOTH MY LEFT AND RIGHT HEADLIGHTS KEEP GETTING BURNT OUT .THEY BURNT OUT WHEN I TURNED THE CAR ON .
HEATER BLEND DOOR QUIT WORKING, TURN CAR ON IN THE MORNING AND IT NEVER WARM UP ON THE DRIVER SIDE.
THE CAR HAS BEEN IN AND OUT OF THE DEALERSHIP FOR ALMOST A WEEK OVER THE LAST TWO WEEKS AND THE RECALL HAS NOT BEEN FIXED AND THE DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN UNCOOPERATIVE ABOUT THE REPAIRS.
PASSENGER SEAT DOES SLIDES BACK / FORWARD - DOES NOT LOCK IN POSITION. THE MOVEMENT OF THE SEAT WOULD BE VERY UNSAFE IN A COLLISION OR ACCIDENT. THE PASSENGER SEAT BECAME STIFF TO SLIDE AND ROLLERS FELL OUT. NOW, THE SEAT MOVES FREELY FRONT TO BACK WITH ACCEL / DECEL. IN ADDITIONA, WHEN THE SEAT IS MOVED UP / FORWARD TO ALLOW A PASSENGER TO ENTER THE BACKSEAT, IT WILL NOT PUSH BACK DOWN IN POSITION WITHOUT MANUALLY RELEASING A CABLE UNDER THE SEAT. THERE HAS BEEN SOME KIND OF FAILURE IN THE SEAT LEADING TO AN UNSAFE CONDITION. WHEN TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT WENT WRONG AND WHAT FIXES ARE OUT THERE, IT BECAME CLEAR MANY OTHERS HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE.
THE PASSENGER SEAT DOES NOT LOCK INTO PLACE. THE SEAT SLIDES FREELY ALONG THE FLOOR WHILE DRIVING.
ELECTRIC ASSIST STEERING GEAR, RACK LOST THE ELECTRIC ASSIST. ELECTRIC ASSIST FAILED, STOPPED WORKING WHILE DRIVING. THE ELECTRIC ASSIST MOTOR ADDS THE "POWER ASSISTANCE" TO THE STEERING MAKING IT EASY TO TURN THE STEERING . FAILURE OF THE ELECTRIC ASSIST MAKES THE STEERING DRAMATICALLY DIFFICULT TO TURN THE STEERING EVEN THE SLIGHTEST. IT IS NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO CONTROL THE CAR OR EVEN PROVIDE ANY STEERING INPUT THAT CHANGES THE DIRECTION OF THE WHEELS IN ANY MEANINGFUL OR PURPOSEFUL WAY. FRANKLY LUCKY THAT I HAVE DRIVEN A MANUAL, NON POWER STEERING VEHICLE, IN THE PAST AND INSTANTLY RECOGNIZED THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILED, LUCKY TO HAVE NOT CRASHED AS IT WAS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO GET THE CAR OFF THE ROAD AS STEERING IS EVEN MORE DIFFICULT, NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE, TO MANIPULATE THAN A TRADITIONAL NON-POWER ASSIST STEERING RACK. CAR WAS IN MOTION ON RURAL BACK ROAD.
