TAKATA RECALL I WAS LEAVING CHURCH AND WAS ABOUT TO STOP AT A GAS STATION TO GET COFFEE AND A DOUGHNUT LIKE I USUALLY DO EVERY SUNDAY. I WAS ABOUT TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN INTO THE GAS STATION, MY STEERING ALL OF A SUDDEN GOT STIFF AND THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AND MY WINDSHIELD WIPERS CAME ON AND IT SCARED THE DAY LIGHTS OUT OF ME. I HAD TO GO ON THE CURB A LITTLE JUST TO MAKE THE TURN.
WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE THE BATTERY SAVER MODE ILLUMINATED ON THE ELECTRONIC VEHICLE INFORMATION CENTER (OR EVIC) ALERTING ME THAT THE CHARGING SYSTEM WAS IN BATTERY PROTECTION MODE. WHEN I ARRIVED HOME I DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY TO PREVENT TOTAL DISCHARGE OF BATTERY OVERNIGHT AND NOT BE ABLE TO MOVE VEHICLE FROM GARAGE. WHEN ATTEMPTING TO RECONNECT THE BATTERY I ATTEMPTED TO RESTART VEHICLE WHICH WAS SUCCESSFUL AND THERE WAS NO MORE INDICATION THAT VEHICLE WAS IN BATTERY SAVER MODE AND HAS NOT RE-APPEARED IN THE SEVERAL DAYS SINCE. AFTER PERSONAL RESEARCH I DISCOVERED THAT THIS IS A COMMON FAILURE IN MODES EQUIPPED WITH 3.6 L ENGINE EQUIPPED MODELS AND FCA LLC HAS ISSUED RECALL # P60 BUT HAS NOT ISSUED ONE FOR 5.7 L ENGINE EQUIPPED MODELS THAT ARE EXHIBITING THE SAME FAILURE PROBLEMS AT APPROXIMATELY THE SAME RATE AND AGE. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO LOCAL DODGE DEALERSHIP IN YUMA, AZ FOR TAKATA AIRBAG AND WHEEL JACK RECALL ON JULY 12, 2016 AND NOTIFIED SERVICE PERSONNEL OF THE BATTERY SAVER MODE CONDITION AND REQUESTED CHARGING SYSTEM DIAGNOSIS. CURRENTLY CHRYSLER HAS CLOSED THE INVESTIGATION BY ISSUING A RECALL ON 3.6 L ALTERNATOR PROBLEMS BUT HAS NOT OR WILL NOT ISSUE A RECALL FOR 5.7 L EQUIPPED VEHICLES EVEN THOUGH FCA LLC KNOWS THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM. ALL PREVIOUS RECALLS HAVE BEEN COMPLETED OR ARE IN PROGRESS.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 DODGE CHARGER. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BATTERY SAVER WARNING LIGHT, TPMS WARNING LIGHT, AND EMERGENCY BRAKE WARNING LIGHT ALSO ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ELECTRICAL FEATURES IN THE VEHICLE STARTED TO SHUT DOWN. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE OFF OF THE ROADWAY. THE CONTACT WAS INSTRUCTED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL TO PLACE THE VEHICLE IN PARK AND TURN OFF THE VEHICLE; HOWEVER, THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO DO SO. AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES, THE VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE ALTERNATOR FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V634000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 43,900.

EVERY SINGLE TIME I HAD ANY WORK OR MAINTENANCE PERFORMED ON MY VEHICLE IT'S ALWAYS WITH A DODGE AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP/SERVICE STATION. I PURCHASED MY VEHICLE. SINCE 2013, I'VE HAD OVER 7 RECALLS ON THIS CAR. SEVEN. ONE OF WHICH I HAD TO CONTACT DODGE TO GET REIMBURSED FOR THE PURCHASE OF A NEW BATTERY AFTER THEIR ALTERNATOR KILLED IT. THE CAR LITERALLY SHUT OFF ON ME AND MALFUNCTIONED WHILE I WAS DRIVING. 4TH OF JULY WEEKEND MY AIRBAG LIGHT STARTED TURNING OFF AND ON. I NEVER EVEN KNEW THERE WAS A LIGHT THERE. IT'S BEEN ILLUMINATED NON STOP AND HAVEN'T WENT OFF SINCE. DROVE MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP TODAY THAT I ALWAYS GO TO FOR SERVICE, AND LOW AND BEHOLD, THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT RECALL I AM REFERRING TO, AND THE RECALL ON MY CAR FOR THE AIRBAG WAS "ALREADY PERFORMED". I CALLED AND SPOKE WITH FELICIA AT DODGE 800853-1403. SHE TELLS ME THAT DODGE RECORDS SHOW THAT ON 5/22/2016, I WENT TO TOWN & COUNTRY DEALERSHIP AND HAD THE RECALL REPAIR PERFORMED ON MY VEHICLE. 1. I WENT TO THAT LOCATION AND ONLY HAD AN OIL CHANGE AND 23-POINT INSPECTION PERFORMED. EVEN MY ONLINE RECORDS AND RECEIPT REFLECT AS SUCH. 2. THERE IS NO SIGNATURE ON RECORD OF ME ASKING FOR THIS RECALL TO BE PERFORMED, I NEVER SIGNED OFF ON IT, NEVER DISCUSSED IT, DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT IT, THEY DIDN'T GIVE ME A RECEIPT SAYING THAT IT WAS DONE, AND THEY NEVER ACTUALLY DID IT BUT SENT A BILL TO DODGE FOR REIMBURSEMENT FOR THE RECALL. 3. I RECEIVED THE POSTCARD ABOUT THE RECALL LESS THAN A MONTH AGO. ON THE POSTCARD IT SAYS THAT RECORDS INDICATE THERE IS TWO (2) OPEN RECALLS THAT NEEDS TO BE PERFORMED ON MY VEHICLE. FELICIA @ DODGE STATES THAT I CAN TAKE MY CAR TO A DEALERSHIP, PAY TO EITHER GET THE AIRBAG LIGHT FIXED (WHATEVER IS CAUSING THE ISSUE) OR PAY FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TO BE PERFORMED ON MY VEHICLE TO DETERMINE IF IT IS THE RECALL PROBLEM THAT THEY SHOW WAS "ALREADY FIXED".
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY IN MILWAUKEE WI AND THE CAR STOPPED. I HAD IT TOWED TO PALMEN ON 75 IN KENOSHA . I ONLY HAD THE CAR FOR 3 MONTHS THE ENGINEER FROM CHYRSLER TOLDED ME IT WAS A FAULTY RADIATOR. THE CAR CAUGHT ON FIRE WHILE THE TOW TRUCK HOOKED IT UP. THEY WILL NOY HONOR THE WARRANITY OR THE RECALL COULD YOU LOOK INTO RECALL ON RADIATOR . I ALMOST DIED ON THE HIGHWAY. I ONLY HAD THE CAR FOR 3 MONTHS..

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, THE ENGINE CAUGHT FIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT A FAULTY THERMOSTAT MELTED ONTO THE ENGINE AND BURNED. THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 60,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

THE ALTERNATOR HAD A RECALL AND THE AIRBAG LIGHT ON THE DASHBOARD KEEPS FLASHING WHEN WE DRIVE THE CAR. SO WE TOOK THE CAR TO A DODGE JEEP DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD IT IS A SEAT DEPLOYMENT ELECTRICAL WIRING ISSUE THAT NEEDS REPAIRING CALLED LEFT SEAT WIRING HARNESS AND HARNESS TO THORAX AIR BAG. WE WERE TOLD THE COST TO REPAIR $525 PLUS ADDITIONAL FOR LABOR EVEN THOUGH IT IS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT. THE CAR IS 2012 DODGE CHARGER SE WITH 80,904 MILES
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN THE ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL INDICATOR CAME ON. I ALSO NOTICED A BURNING SMELL SO I TURNED OFF THE AC AND NOTICED THE RADIO POWER WAS OFF SO I TRIED POWERING IT BACK ON BUT TO NO AVAIL. THE SMELL CONTINUED AND THE VEHICLE SEEMED TO SLOW DOWN AND THE SPEEDOMETER HAND BEGAN TO GO CRAZY FLIPPING BACK AND FORTH SO I PULLED OVER TO THE NEAREST EXIT AND TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF. I ATTEMPTED TO RESTART AND NOTHING HAPPENED. THE TOW TRUCK GUY ARRIVED AND TRIED TO BOOST IT AND IT BEGAN TO SMOKE. IT STILL HAD NO POWER. I'M HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED CONSIDERING I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE BRAND NEW. I THOUGHT BY PURCHASING THE MODEL WITH HEMI I WAS GETTING A BETTER QUALITY VEHICLE. APPARENTLY NOT. WOULD NEVER EXPECT TO BE BROKE DOWN ON THE SIDE ON THE ROAD IN SUCH FAIRLY NEW VEHICLE. ALSO HAD TO HAVE THE RADIATOR REPLACED LIKE A YEAR PRIOR. THEN THE PASSENGER HEADLIGHT ALSO HAS SOME TYPE OF SHORTAGE WHICH THE DEALER COULDN'T DETECT WHAT THE PROBLEM IS AND THE BOTTOM FOG LAMPS NO LONGER WORK. SEEMS TO BE SEVERAL WIRING ISSUES ON THE FRONT END. DEALER DIAGNOSED MY VEHICLE AND I NOW NEED A NEW ALTERNATOR, STARTER, AND BATTERY WHICH WILL COST ME $1300. SUCKS BECAUSE THERE IS A RECALL FOR ALTERNATOR BUT FOR NOW IT ONLY APPLIES TO THE VEHICLES WITH 3.6L MOTOR. WANTED TO TRADE MY VEHICLE FOR THE NEW DODGE BUT NOW I'VE CHANGED MY MIND!

THE 5.7 HEMI CHARGER HAS A FAULTY ALTERNATOR JUST AS THE 3.6 ENGINES. THE EVIC READ BATTERY SAVER MODE, I HEARD A WHINING NOISE COMING FROM THE ALTERNATOR. A FEW DAYS LATER THE EVIC TURNED WHITE AND ALL THE DASH LIGHTS CAME ON. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND IT WOULDN'T START AGAIN.

AFTER CONTACTING THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE PARTS NEEDED FOR THE RECALL REMEDY WERE STILL NOT AVAILABLE AND NO ESTIMATED TIME FOR RECEIVING THE PARTS COULD BE PROVIDED. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. THE VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE.
THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY UNDER A RECALL, DATED JULY 01, 2016'NAMELY, S43 / NHTSA 16V-352 (THE 'RECALL').THE SAFETY RECALL NOTICE INFORMS THAT 'A DEFECT' IS PRESENT IN THE VEHICLE: "THE FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG INFLATOR MAY RUPTURE, DUE TO EXCESSIVE INTERNAL PRESSURE, DURING NORMAL AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT EVENTS. THIS CONDITION IS MORE LIKELY TO OCCUR IF YOUR VEHICLE HAS BEEN EXPOSED TO HIGH LEVELS OF ABSOLUTE HUMIDITY FOR EXTENDED PERIODS OF TIME. AN INFLATOR RUPTURE MAY RESULT IN METAL FRAGMENTS STRIKING THE VEHICLE OCCUPANTS RESULTING IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH." DUE TO THE 'DEFECT' DESCRIBED IN THE RECALL, IT IS INTOLERABLY UNSAFE FOR ANY PERSON TO RIDE IN THE VEHICLE'S FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. THE CONTACT CONTINUED DRIVING AND THE BATTERY WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. NEXT, THE RADIO STOPPED OPERATING AND ALL THE WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE STALLED WHILE WAITING TO PULL INTO A PARKING LOT. THE VEHICLE WAS PUSHED BY A POLICE OFFICER INTO THE PARKING LOT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. ABOUT A MINUTE LATER, I LOST POWER AND MY CAR COMPLETELY STALLED. I WAS ABLE TO DRIFT TO THE CENTER LANE BEFORE COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP. THIS WAS FRIGHTENING BECAUSE IT WAS DARK OUTSIDE, IT'S A POORLY LIT ROAD AND OF COURSE I HAD NO ELECTRICITY TO TURN ON MY HAZARD LIGHTS. WITH NO WAY TO POP THE TRUNK, I HAD TO CRAWL INTO IT VIA THE BACK SEAT TO GRAB FLARES (LUCKILY I HAD SOME-MOST PEOPLE DON'T). I WAS ALMOST STRUCK BY SEVERAL CARS DURING THIS TIME. ALAS, THE TOW TRUCK CAME AND I WAS TAKEN TO A SAFE LOCATION. THE AVERAGE QUOTE FROM MECHANICS IN THE DC AREA IS ABOUT $800. THE DEALERSHIP WANTS $970. THE 180AMP ALTERNATOR SHOULD BE RECALLED JUST AS THE 160AMP ALTERNATOR. ITS DEFECTIVE AND ITS A SAFETY RISK.

ENGINE STARTED SMOKING AND COULD SMELL BURNING ELECTRICAL THEN WENT INTO A STALL. BATTERY SAVER MODE INDICATOR CAME ON. ALTERNATOR IS SHOT. CONTACTED CHRYSLER AND WAS TOLD THAT I WAS NOT COVERED (DID A VIN CHECK) UNDER THEIR CURRENT ALTERNATOR RECALL/BATTERY. RECALL NUMBER IS P60. I HAVE OWNED THE VEHICLE FOR 2 MONTHS AND IT ONLY HAS 58K MILES ON IT. WAS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. HAVE NOT PERFORMED THE REPAIRS YET BUT AM ORDERING A NEW ALTERNATOR AND BATTERY TODAY.

ALL POWER FAILED THE SAME DAY I TALKED TO DEALER WITHIN 10 MILES AND 15 MINUTES LATER. I HAD JUST PULLED OVER WHILE ON A FREEWAY BECAUSE THE CAR WAS EMITTING A BURNET ELECTRICAL SMELL AND I WAS TURNING AROUND TO RETURN TO THE DEALER WHEN POWER FAILED.

SHORTLY AFTER A RED BATTERY INDICATOR LIGHT TURNED ON, FOLLOWED BY A "BATTERY SAVER MODE" MESSAGE. I HEADED FOR A LOCAL AUTO PARTS STORE TO GET A NEW BATTERY. WHILE DRIVING ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS STARTED TURNING OFF; SOUND SYSTEM, BLUETOOTH, AND POSSIBLY OTHERS. A FEW MINUTES LATER OTHER INDICATOR LIGHTS CAME ON LIKE MY ABS, TRACTION CONTROL, AND POWER STEERING. I ARRIVED AT THE STORE AND TRIED TO SHIFT INTO REVERSE TO BACK INTO A PARKING SPOT. TRANSMISSION WENT INTO NEUTRAL AND REFUSED TO ENGAGE REVERSE. MORE INDICATOR LIGHTS CAME ON. NOTHING I DID COULD GET THE CAR INTO GEAR. I ATTEMPTED TO TURN THE CAR OFF AND WAS GREETED WITH A MESSAGE SOMETHING LIKE, "CAR MUST BE IN PARK TO TURN OFF". I ATTEMPTED TO PUT THE CAR INTO PARK AND FAILED. I ENGAGED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND WENT INSIDE TO EXPLAIN WHY MY CAR WAS STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE PARKING LOT. ONCE I RETURNED TO THE CAR THE LED SCREEN IN THE CONSOLE STARTED FLICKERING WHITE AND BLACK AND I SAW SOME LIGHTS CHANGE ON THE SHIFTER. IT CLAIMED IT WAS IN PARK BUT THE CAR ROLLED AFTER DISENGAGING THE E-BRAKE. I WAS ABLE TO TURN THE CAR OFF BUT NOT ENGAGE PARK. AUTO PART STORE EMPLOYEE TESTED BATTERY AND SUGGESTED THAT BATTERY AND ALTERNATOR WERE DEAD. WE TRIED THEIR JUMP UNIT BUT COULD NOT START THE CAR. EMPLOYEE DROVE HIS TRUCK OVER AND MANAGED TO JUMP START THE CAR. AFTER REMOVING JUMPER CABLES THE ENGINE STARTED SPUTTERING AND TURNED OFF IN LESS THAN TWO MINUTES. WHILE WAITING FOR THE TOW TRUCK I DID RESEARCH AND FOUND OUT THAT MY YEAR MAKE AND MODEL ALTERNATOR HAD BEEN RECALLED, BUT NOT MY ALTERNATOR BECAUSE IT WAS 180AMP (INSTEAD OF THE RECALLED 160AMP). DEALERSHIP MECHANIC CONFIRMED DEAD ALTERNATOR WHICH KILLED BATTERY.

MY 2012 DODGE CHARGER SXT HAS APPROXIMATELY 81,000 MILES. I HAVE NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH IT, MAINTENANCE HAVE ALWAYS BEEN DONE ON TIME. I WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING LOT WHEN I STARTED HEARING A NOISE FROM THE HOOD. I TURNED OFF THE CAR AND RESTARTED IT, THE NOISE WAS STILL THERE AND BECAME LOUDER. THEN SMOKE STARTED COMING OUT OF THE HOOD. I TURNED OFF THE CAR AND WAITED FOR THE SMOKE TO SUBSIDE, WHICH WAS ABOUT 40 MINUTES. THEN I OPENED THE HOOD AND AND THE SMELL OF BURNT WAS VERY STRONG. THE CAR WOULD NOT START AFTER THAT. WE HAD IT TOWED TO OUR MECHANIC AND HE CONFIRMED THE ALTERNATOR HAD CAUGHT FIRE. HE COULD NOT FIX ANYTHING BECAUSE THE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS IN THE CAR WHERE ACTING UP AND HE DOES NOT KNOW THE SYSTEM. HE ADVISED US ABOUT THE ALTERNATOR RECALL P60 AND SO I CALLED CHRYSLER AND THEY WERE ADAMANT THAT MY CAR DOES NOT HAVE ANY RECALLS FOR THE ALTERNATOR. HOWEVER ALL SYMPTOMS OF THIS RECALL P60 WERE PRESENT IN MY CAR. WE TOOK IT TO FIRESTONE AND THEY REFERRED US TO THE DEALER BECAUSE THEY CONFIRMED THE COMPUTER WAS ALSO DAMAGED AND THEY SAID THAT ONLY THE DEALER COULD HELP WITH THAT. I CALLED THE DEALER AS WELL AND THEY SAID, THERE IS NO WARRANTY ON THE ALTERNATOR, COMPUTER OR ANY OF THE COMPONENTS THE OTHER MECHANICS HAVE CONFIRMED FAILED IN THE CAR. CHRYSLER WILL NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THE VEHICLE HAS THE SAME ALTERNATOR ISSUE UNDER RECALL P60 AND NOW WE ARE LEFT WITH AN EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE REPAIR, CAR RENTAL. I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY ASSISTANCE IN GETTING CHRYSLER TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR SELLING A CAR WITH A DEFECTIVE ALTERNATOR. MY VEHICLE IS RELATIVELY NEW AND I WAS NOT COUNTING ON HAVING TO PAY FOR SUCH A HEFTY REPAIR TO A NEW CAR.

ALSO I NOTED SIGNIFICANT REDUCTION IN ABILITY TO ACCELERATE, AS IN THE CAR WAS STUCK IN A HIGHER GEAR. DROVE STRAIGHT TO MY LOCAL MECHANIC. THE CAR WOULD NOT TURN OFF OR GO INTO PARK. HOWEVER, MY MECHANIC LOCATED CERTAIN CODES IN HIS CHECK, BEING, P1DC7-00, P215C-00, P1DB6-00, U1412-00, AND P1915-00. HE THEN LOCATED A RECALL FOR THE 2013 DODGE CHARGER FOR A RELATED TRANSMISSION ISSUE. THE SAME "SYMPTOMS" ARE LISTED IN THAT RECALL, AS TO WHAT HAPPENED WITH MY CAR. THE SAME TYPE OF ENGINE (3.6 LITER, WITH 8 SPEED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION). I CONTACTED DODGE, AND THEY SEEMED LESS THAN CONCERNED TO CHECK INTO THIS, DUE TO THE VIN NUMBER TO MY CAR, WAS NOT IN THE RECALL. THEY JUST WANTED ME TO GET IT TO A DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT PROPERLY DIAGNOSED. VEHICLE IS WELL MAINTAINED, AND HAS ABOUT 44,500 MILES ON IT.

THIS IS THE EXACT PROBLEM THAT THE DODGE CHARGER RECALL P60 COVERED BUT THIS RECALL DID NOT INCLUDE THE LARGER ENGINES???? MAKES NO SENSE!!!! I HAD TO GET OFF THE HIGHWAY WITHOUT POWER BY COASTING INTO THE MIDDLE TURNING LANE SINCE THE CAR IS COMPLETELY ELECTRIC AND I HAD NO POWER WHILE CARS WERE DRIVING AROUND ME AT 60 MPH. IT COST ME OVER 600 TO HAVE A NEW ALTERNATOR INSTALLED.
