TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 DODGE CHARGER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER STEERING ABILITY AND THE BATTERY SAVE MODE MESSAGE ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE CONTACT HAD TO MANEUVER INTO A PARKING LOT AND HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE 180 AMPS ALTERNATOR FAILED AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE 180 AMPS ALTERNATOR WAS NOT UNDER A RECALL, ONLY THE 160 AMPS. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,918.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 DODGE CHARGER. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE WIRING UNDER THE SEAT NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER FOR THE SAME DIAGNOSTIC. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V352000 (AIR BAGS). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY WHEN THE 'BATTERY SAVER MODE' INDICATOR CAME ON AND I PRESSED THE OK BUTTON ON MY STEERING WHEEL. I DROVE HOME AND PARKED THE CAR. THE NEXT DAY UPON STARTING MY CAR THE INDICATOR DID NOT APPEAR WHEN STARTING THE AUTO. AS I LEFT MY HOUSE DRIVING IN NEIGHBORHOOD I NOTICED MY CARS TOUCHSCREEN WASN'T WORKING, THEN I HEARD A WHINING SOUND SO I BEGAN TO SLOW MY CAR DOWN. THE SERVICE TRANSMISSION LIGHT APPEARED ON MY DASH AND WITHIN SECONDS THE CAR STALLED WITHOUT THE ABILITY TO STEER OR BRAKE, THE CAR CAME TO REST IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET DEAD. THE ENTIRE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM WAS NOT PRESENT. I CALLED A TOW TRUCK AND HAD MY CAR TOWED TO TOMBALL DODGE. UPON INSPECTION BY TOMBALL DODGE SERVICEMAN THE DIAGNOSIS WAS ALTERNATOR SHORTED THUS PUTTING THE CAR IN THE A STALLED STATE. I INQUIRED WITH THE SERVICEMAN ABOUT A RECALL NOTICE HE INDICATED THERE WAS NONE FOR MY CAR HOWEVER UPON DOING SOME RESEARCH I FOUND RECALL P60 P60 STATES: CHRYSLER GROUP LLC (CHRYSLER) IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2011-2014 CHRYSLER 300, DODGE CHARGER, CHALLENGER, AND DURANGO; AND 2012-2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE VEHICLES MANUFACTURED APRIL 22, 2010, TO JANUARY 2, 2014, AND EQUIPPED WITH A 3.6L ENGINE AND A 160 AMP ALTERNATOR. IN THE AFFECTED VEHICLES, THE ALTERNATOR MAY SUDDENLY FAIL. IF THE ALTERNATOR FAILS, THE VEHICLE MAY STALL WITHOUT WARNING, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH. WHEN I CONTACTED CHRYSLER THEY STATED THAT MY CAR WAS NOT UNDER THAT RECALL BECAUSE I HAD A DIFFERENT ORDER NUMBER THEN WHAT WAS LISTED ON THE RECALL. HOWEVER, I WAS HAVING ALMOST IDENTICAL PROBLEMS AS WHAT WAS DESCRIBED IN THE RECALL NOTICE.
RADIO STOPPED WORKING, ALL LIGHTS ON DASH WENT ON, BATTERY SAFETY MODE SYMBOL LIT UP, THE NEXT THING THAT HAPPENED WAS CAR WENT COMPLETELY DEAD. COULD NOT GET CAR OUT OF PARK HAD TO BE TOWED. VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY AT TIME OF FAILURE. BATTERY WAS CHARGED CAR STARTED BUT ONLY RAN TILL BATTERY DIED, NO CHARGING BY ALTERNATOR. SAME ISSUES FOR MANY OTHER 2012 DODGE CHARGERS

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURES WERE IDENTICAL TO THOSE LISTED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V634000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM), BUT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ALTERNATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, HOWEVER, THE CONTACT HAD TO APPLY EXTREME FORCE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL AS IT TOOK A LONGER DISTANCE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE ABS WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE MASTER CYLINDER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 87,025.

WHILE PARKED, SMOKE APPEARED FROM THE VEHICLE AND THEN DISAPPEARED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 82,000.
I STARTED MY VEHICLE AND PULLED OUT OF MY GARAGE AS I DO EACH MORNING. AS I WENT DOWN THE DRIVEWAY AT ALMOST IDLE SPEED, I COULD FEEL A STRONG RESISTANCE (AS IF THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS ON) AND THE POWER STEERING TIGHTENED UP. SUDDENLY A STRONG BURNING SMELL FILLED THE CAR, ALL OF THE LIGHTS ON THE DASH CAME ON AND THE AC FAN BLEW ON HIGH SPEED. I IMMEDIATELY REVERSED BACK TO THE GARAGE (100 FEET OR LESS) AND WAS BARELY ABLE TO PARK. THERE WAS OBVIOUSLY SOMETHING BURNING UNDER THE HOOD AS THE SMELL FILLED THE GARAGE. I TURNED OFF THE CAR. WHEN AAA ARRIVED TO TOW IT, THE CAR WAS COMPLETELY DEAD. THE DRIVER CHOSE NOT TO JUMP IT FOR FEAR OF DOING MORE DAMAGE. MY LOCAL TRUSTED MECHANIC ADVISED ME THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON 2012 DODGE CHARGER ALTERNATORS AND HE BELIEVED THAT IT WAS MY ALTERNATOR THAT HAD FAILED. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO ARRIGO SAWGRASS DODGE WHERE THEY CONFIRMED THAT THE ALTERNATOR HAD IN FACT FAILED AND WAS BURNING. HE SAID THE RECALL DID NOT INCLUDE MY VIN AND THAT CHRYSLER WOULD NOT COVER MY EXPENSES. MY 16 YEAR OLD SON AND I WERE LUCKY WE WERE IN THE DRIVEWAY, LUCKY THE FIRE DIDN'T IGNITE WHILE WE WERE SLEEPING AND LUCKY MY SON (A NEW DRIVER) WAS NOT FACED WITH A TOTALLY DISABLED VEHICLE ON THE ROAD. ACCORDING TO THE RECALL, THIS FAILURE CREATED A HIGH RISK OF CRASH. HAD WE BEEN ON ANY ROAD INSTEAD OF MY DRIVEWAY, WE COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED.
BATTERY PROTECTION MODE CAME ON. RADIO SHUT OFF HAZARD LIGHTS WOULDN'T COME ON WINDOWS WOULDN'T ROLL UP TRUNK WOULD NOT OPEN ALLOWING ACCESS TO BATTERY ALL ELECTRONICS WENT CRAZY WHINING NOISE. THEN LOST ALL POWER.
WHILE DRIVING ON CITY STREET CAR JUST STOPPED.B4 CAR STOPPED WIPERS CAME ON,RADIO SHUT OFF,ALL KINDS OF LIGHTS LITE UP ON DASHBOARD. CAR STOPPED IN MIDDLE OF ROAD CAUSING A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. HAD CAR TOWED TO DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY INFORMED ME ALTERNATOR WAS OUT AND PAID $950 FOR NEW ALTERNATOR.I RESEARCHED AND FOUND RECALL ON ALTERNATOR FOR 160 AMP ALTERNATOR,MY CAR HAS 180 AMP ALTERNATOR AND NOT COVERED BY RECALL BUT EVERYTHING I READ INDICATES THE SAME DANGEROUS PROBLEM AS THE 160 AMP ALTERNATOR.THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS FLAW IN THIS ALTERNATOR AND COULD EASILY CAUSE DEADLY ACCIDENTS

THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000. THE VIN WAS NOT PROVIDED.

ADDITIONALLY, AFTER HAVING AN OIL CHANGE PERFORMED, THE LOW OIL LEVEL WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURES WERE NOT DETERMINED. THE LOCAL DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 51,000.

THE ABS WARNING LIGHT THEN STAYS ON AND THE VEHICLE CONTINUES TO BECOME DIFFICULT TO STOP WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.

2012 DODGE CHARGER. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO DEALERSHIP FAILURE TO RENDER SERVICE FOR OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROL MODULE, SIDE AIRBAG INFLATABLE CURTAIN RECALL. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED THE DEALER WAS GIVING HER THE RUN-A-AROUND, BY GIVING EXCUSES, AS TO WHY THE RECALL WAS NOT PERFORMED. *JB
THE CAR SHUT DOWN ON THE HIGHWAY. ALL THE ELECTICAL WENT OUT. NO BRAKES AND NO STIRRING. WHILE IN MOTION. AND JUST TOOK IT IN FOR A RECALL ON THE SAFTY SYSTEM A WEEK BEFORE.
CHRYSLER IS RECALLING 20,283 MY 2006-2009 CHARGER AND MAGNUM 2012 VEHICLE BUILT WITH THE POLICE PACKAGE AND EQUIPPED WITH A COLUMN SHIFTER. THE GEARSHIFT CABLE BECOME DISENGAGED FROM THE STEERING COLUMN MOUNTING BRACKET AND CAUSE AN INCORRECT TRANSMISSION GEARSHIFT POSITION DISPLAY. HAVE SAME ISSUES IN THE 2012 MODELS THIS HAS NOT BEEN FIXED AND DEALERSHIP AND CHRYSLER REFUSED TO FIX UNDER THE RECALL OF 2009.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 DODGE CHARGER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE WAS AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO SERVICED VEHICLES FOR A POLICE DEPARTMENT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CUSTOMER INFORMED HIM THAT AFTER REFUELING THE VEHICLE, THERE WAS A FUEL ODOR. THE CONTACT DIAGNOSED THAT TWO FUEL PUMP ELECTRICAL PINS HAD BURNT, ALLOWING FUEL TO LEAK FROM THEM, AND THE FUEL PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 57,510.
WITH OUT ANY WARNING WHILE DRIVING MY VEHICLE ON A CITY STREET MY ENTIRE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM SHUT DONE VERY RAPIDLY. BEGINNING WITH THE RADIO SHUTTING IT SELF OFF, THE VEHICLE THEN DISPLAYED INDICATOR LIGHTS SAYING THAT MY ABS SYSTEM WAS BAD FOLLOWED BY A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT INDICATOR. SHORTLY AFTER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT INDICATOR CAME ON A SERVICE TRANSMISSION INDICATOR LIGHT DISPLAYED FOLLOWED BY ALL ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS SHUTTING DOWN COMPLETELY. ONCE I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER THE CAR WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO PARK. I THEN TRIED SHUTTING THE CAR OFF AND THE CAR WOULD NOT TURN OFF. THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS AND OTHER CAR ACCESSORIES BEGAN TO TURN ON AND OFF ON THEIR OWN. AT THAT TIME A STRONG PLASTIC BURNING SMELL BEGAN FOLLOWED BY SMOKE FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. IN ORDER TO SHUT DOWN THE VEHICLE I HAD TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY. THE NEXT MORNING I RECONNECTED THE BATTERY TO SEE IF THE PROBLEM HAD FIXED ITSELF. AT THAT POINT THE VEHICLE STARTED, BUT STILL HAD THE SAME ELECTRICAL ISSUES FROM THE NIGHT BEFORE. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE WAS THIS TIME THE VEHICLE SHUT ITSELF OFF AND WILL NO LONGER START. UPON HAVING THE VEHICLE PROBLEM DIAGNOSED IT APPEARS THAT THE ALTERNATOR FAILED WITHOUT ANY PRIOR WARNING CAUSING A COMPLETE ELECTRICAL SHUTDOWN OF THE VEHICLE. UPON FURTHER RESEARCH, THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL FOR THE 2012 DODGE CHARGER VEHICLES CONCERNING FAULTY ALTERNATORS IN VEHICLES THAT ARE EQUIPPED WITH 160 AMP ALTERNATORS. MINE HAS A 180 AMP ALTERNATOR, BUT STILL EXPERIENCED A SHORT IN THE ALTERNATOR AS DESCRIBED BY RECALL P60 ISSUED IN 2014. UPON CALLING OUR LOCAL DODGE DEALERSHIP WE WERE TOLD THAT OUR VEHICLE WAS UNDER RECALL. AFTER TOWING THE VEHICLE TO THE DODGE DEALERSHIP WE WERE TOLD THAT THE CAR WAS NOT UNDER THE RECALL LIST AND WE WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR PAYING THE TOWING FEES A LONG WITH REPAIR FEES FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF THE ALTERNATOR.
I SAYS THAT MY CAR IS NOT ON RECALL FOR THE ALTERNATOR. HOWEVER, MY ALTERNATOR WENT OUT WITHOUT WARNING WHICH ALMOST CAUSE ME TO CRASH. ALL MY GADGETS ON MY VEHICLE, SUCH AS, THE GAUGES, RADIO, WINDSHILED WIPERS, BATTERY LIGHT, UNEVEN ROAD LIGHTS WERE GOING BALISTIC.IT WAS STALLING AND PUTTERING. I COULD NOT BRAKE MY BRAKE GOT HARD WHICH WOULD NOT LET ME PUSH DOWN . IT DID NOT LET ME STOP. I ALMOST HIT A CAR. I ONLY HAD ENOUGH TIME TO VEER OVER. THANK GOODNESS IT WAS NOT A BUSY STREET OR HIGHWAY.IT WOULD NOT LET ME PARK MY PARK OR ANYTHING . I HAD TO PUSH THE BUTTON TO TURN OFF. I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY EARLY THAT MORNING WITH MY LITTLE GIRL. IT COULD OF HAPPEND THEN . IT COULD HAVE BEEN FATAL. SOMEONE NEEDS TO CHECK INTO THIS. I THINK MY CAR IS ONE OF THE RECALLS. PLEASE HELP
WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY APRX. 70 MPH, WHEN "BATTERY SAVER MODE" MESSAGE CAME ON. I DISCONNECTED PHONE CHARGER, TURNED OFF AUDIO, AC, AND DAYLIGHTS. SUDDENLY, THE DISPLAYS AND DASH NEEDLES WENT UP AND DOWN (LOOKED LIKE A COMPUTER VIRUS). THE CAR STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY, AND THE ALTERNATOR BURNED ( SMOKE COMING OUT OF THE HOOD). MY CAR HAS ONLY 53,000 MILES, AND NEVER HAD SIGNS OF FAULTY OR NEAR-DEAD ALTERNATOR. WELL, THE NEW BATTERY $200, NEW 180 AMP ALTERNATOR WAS $500, PLUS LABOR. CALLED CHRYSLER AND THEY SAY THE RECALL P60 IS FOR 160 AMP ALTERNATOR, BUT IT SEEMS THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE WITH THE 180 AMP ALTERNATOR. SO MY REPAIRS WERE OUT OF POCKET (WHICH IS JUST MONEY...VERY NEEDED MONEY), BUT BEING ALMOST HIT BY THE COMING I-95 TRAFFIC AND HAVING A CAR THAT IS ABOUT TO BURN, WELL THAT COULD HAVE ENDED IN A TRAGEDY. THANKS GOD MY INSURANCE ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE CAME TO HELP. STILL INTRIGUED WHY THIS 180 AMP ALTERNATOR IS NOT IN RECALL, WHEN ITS ALREADY A FACT THAT THIS "SMALL DEFECT" COULD CAUSE A FATAL ACCIDENT . . .

I CALLED 8008531403 AND 8009921997 AND SPENT OVER 2 HOURS ON THE PHONE WITHOUT A RESOLUTION, THE FIRST REP ADVISED THE RECALL IS VIN SPECIFIC ANDNOTHING APPLIES TO MY VIN, I TRIED TO EXPLAIN TO THE REP THAT THIS HAS BEEN A KNOWN ISSSUE FOR DODGE MODELS MADE SINCE 2010-2013 AND MY CAR WAS PRODUCED WITHIN THAT TIME FRAME. I CONTACTED MY LOCAL DODGE DEALER, ADVISING THEM I NEEDED A "FRONT LEFT SPEED SENSOR". THE SERVICE MANAGER SAID THAT PART IS ON NATIONAL BACKORDER. AFTER GOING BACK TO MY MAIN MECHANIC, HE SAID HE TALKED WITH HIS PARTS DEALER ABOUT GETTING THE PART ALSO FOR MY CAR. HIS PARTS DEALER ALSO TOLD HIM THAT THEY WERE ON BACKORDER. (CLOSE TO 600 ON BACKORDER.) THIS IS ALSO WHEN I LEARNED THAT A SPEED SENSOR IS NOT UNIVERSAL. THEREFORE, A SPEED SENSOR FOR THE RIGHT REAR WHEEL, WON'T FIT ON THE FRONT LEFT SPEED SENSOR SPOT. THIS TELLS ME THERE IS A LARGE PROBLEM WITH THESE SENSORS GOING OUT, ACROSS THE COUNTRY. HAVE READ IN FORUMS THAT OTHER CONSUMERS HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM ON EARLY MODEL DODGE CHARGERS 2006-2008....UPDATED 11/13/15 *BF
