I WAS SITTING AT A STOP LIGHT AT 11PM HEARD A LOUD SOUND AND THE CAR WOULDN'T GO ANY MORE I MANAGED TO GET THE CAR TO A LOT NOT KNOWING THE OIL HAD LEAKED OUT ALL OVER THE GROUND I WAS STUCK FOR 3 HOURS IN THE DARK AND RAIN WAITING FOR MY FAMILY TO COME LOOKING FOR ME I WAS ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK SO I KNEW THE WOULD COME LOOKIN FOR ME JUST SO HAPPENS I WALKED OFF AND LEFT MY CELL ON MY WAY TO WORK HAD THE CAR TOWED THE NEXT DAY FOUND OUT SOMETHING CAME LOSE AND PUT A HOLE IN THE ENGINE BLOCK I GUESS THAT MADE THE OIL LEAK OUT ALL AT ONCE I BOUGHT THIS CAR USED TRADED MY FORD IN FOR IT DROVE IT FOR 7MONTHS AND HAVEN'T USED IT SINCE IM STILL PAYING NOTES ON IT AND CANT AFFORD TO GET IT FIXED COST SOOO MUCH BEGGING FOR RIDES TO AND FROM WOK EVERY DAY BOUT TO GO NUTS THIS SHOULD BE RECALLED ITS HAPPENED TO ALOT OF THESES BRAND OF CAR LOVE MY CAR BUT ITS A PIECE OF JUNK ITS JUST APRETTY BOBY I NEED MY CAR FIXED!!OR I MY LOSE MY JOB SOMEBODY DO SOMETHING PLEASE!*TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 DODGE DURANGO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN HE STARTED THE VEHICLE, THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED AN ABNORMAL TICKING NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE LIFTERS WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. ALL SIXTEEN LIFTERS WERE REPLACED. AFTER THE REPAIR WAS COMPLETE, THE TICKING NOISE COULD STILL BE HEARD AND THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED BY THE MECHANIC THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THAT COULD BE DONE ABOUT THE NOISE. AS THE CONTACT DROVE THE VEHICLE, THE OIL WARNING LIGHT WOULD ILLUMINATE WHENEVER THE CONTACT WOULD BRAKE TO A STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE ENGINE WOULD NEED REPLACING. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 172,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 179,000.
MAIN BEARING SPUN AND LIFTER STUCK ON ENGINE. NO WARNING SIGN WITH LOW OIL LIGHT, NO FUNNY NOISES, THE CAR JUST DIED ON ME AFTER STOPPING AT THE BANK AND STARTING TO PULL AWAY. WITH SUCH A COMMON PROBLEM WHY ISN'T DODGE STEPPING UP TO HELP WITH THESE BAD ENGINES? IT'S A SHAME. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 DODGE DURANGO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE INTERIOR LIGHTS WOULD NOT SHUT OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE CLUSTER CIRCUIT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE INTERIOR LIGHTS CONTINUED TO ILLUMINATE IN THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 03V528000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:WIRING:INTERIOR/UNDER DASH) PREVIOUSLY AND THEY WOULD PROVIDE NO ADDITIONAL ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 74,000. UPDATED 8/31/12 UPDATED 09/11/2012 *JS
PRIOR TO THE ENGINE FAILURE THE MOTOR WOULD SHUT OFF DURING ANY HEAVY RAIN STORM, THEN AFTER ONE RAIN STORM IN JULY OF 2012 THE NEXT MORNING WENT OUTSIDE TO START THE TRUCK THE MOTOR HAD LOCKED UP. TOOK IT TO THE GARAGE AND WAS TOLD BY THE MECHANIC THAT DODGE HAD A MAJOR DESIGN DEFECT IN THE 2004-2005 DURANGO THAT CAUSED ENGINE FAILURE WITH RAIN WATER GETTING INTO THE ENGINE. SO IF THAT IS THE CASE THEN CHRYSLER NEEDS TO REFUND EVERYONE THAT HAS HAD THESE ISSUE DUE TO THERE MISTAKE AND NOT PENALIZE THE CUSTOMERS. *TR
I PULLED INTO THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION AT TAYLOR ROAD AND SR 256 IN REYNOLDSBURG, OH AND WHAT SOUNDED LIKE AN EXPLOSION WAS A ROD THAT SHOT THROUGH THE OIL PAN INTO THE SIDE OF THE ENGINE BLOCK CAUSING THE CAR TO STOP MOVING WHILE IN TRAFFIC. *TR
I HAVE A 2004 DODGE DURANGO SLT, 2-WHEEL DRIVE, 8 CYLINDER, HEMI MAGNUM. MY PROBLEM IS THAT WHENEVER IT RAINS OR I GO THROUGH A CAR WASH OR IT SNOWS, MY CAR ACTS LIKE IT WANTS TO CUT OFF WHEN I COME TO A STOP. IT GASPS FOR AIR. SOMETIMES IT DOES CUT OFF, BUT IT QUICKLY STARTS BACK AGAIN. ONCE IT STOPS RAINING, MY CAR ACTS NORMAL AGAIN. I'VE TAKEN IT TO A DODGE DEALERSHIP THREE TIMES FOR THE SAME PROBLEM, AND EVERY TIME THE TECHNICIAN CANNOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. HE EVEN DROVE IT IN THE RAIN. THE ANSWER SEEMS SO SIMPLE, BUT NO ONE CAN SEEM TO FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH MY VEHICLE. NOW I'M AFRAID TO DRIVE IT WHEN IT RAINS. *TR

AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC EXAMINED THE VEHICLE AND ADVISED THAT AN ENGINE ROD WAS FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO HAVE THE FAILURE DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 123,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 DODGE DURANGO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE ATTEMPTING TO START THE VEHICLE, THE VEHICLE EMITTED A LOUD NOISE AND FAILED TO START. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE ENGINE WAS DESTROYED BECAUSE WATER CAME DOWN THE WINDSHIELD AND ENTERED THE ENGINE. THE WATER WAS ABLE TO REACH THE ENGINE BECAUSE THE GASKETS ON THE INTAKE MANIFOLD WERE DEFECTIVE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO STATED THAT A HYDRO-LOCK OCCURRED WHEN THE ENGINE WAS STARTED AND WATER WAS SUCKED IN. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT ABLE TO BE DRIVEN. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 90,000.
THE SEAT BELT FASTENER FELL APART. PLASTIC CASING SEPARATED AND COMPONENTS THAT LOCK SEAT BELT INTO FASTENER FELL OUT. THIS IS IN THE THIRD ROW WHICH IS USED RARELY. QUICK SEARCH ONLINE SHOWS THAT THIS SEEMS TO BE A FREQUENT PROBLEM THAT HAS NOT BEEN ADDRESSED BY A RECALL. CONSIDERING THE BACK SEAT (THIRD ROW) IS PRIMARILY FOR CHILDREN GIVEN THE LIMITED LEG ROOM IT IS ESPECIALLY CONCERNING. *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 DODGE DURANGO EQUIPPED WITH GOODYEAR WRANGLER TIRES, SIZE 245/70/R17. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE TIRES VIBRATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A REPAIR SHOP, WHERE THE TIRES WERE BALANCED, AN ALIGNMENT WAS PERFORMED, AND THE TIE RODS WERE INSPECTED. THE REPAIR SHOP FOUND NO FAILURE THAT WOULD CAUSE VIBRATION OF THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE OF TIRES WAS 1,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE OF TIRES WAS 8,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE OF THE VEHICLE WAS 125,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
WENT GROCERY SHOPPING NIGHT BEFORE. WOKE UP NEXT MORNING TO GO TO BREAKFAST. WENT TO START DURANGO. HEARD LOUD KNOCKING AND THEN IT STALLED GOT OUT AND OIL WAS SPEWING FROM UNDER THE ENGINE. TOOK IT TO MECHANIC AND HAD TO GET A $5500 LOAN TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE ENGINE DUE TO A THROWN ROD. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 DODGE DURANGO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WATER PENETRATED THE WINDSHIELD AREA WHENEVER IT WOULD RAIN. THE WATER WOULD THEN LEAK ONTO THE COWL PANEL AND INTO THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN FOR REPAIRS AND BOTH THE COWL PANEL AND ENGINE WAS REPLACED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 127,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 181,000.
THE WHEEL WELL AND BODY SURROUNDING WHEEL WELL HAS RUSTED THROUGH, THE DRIVER'S DOOR HAS RUSTED ON DOOR. THE LIFT GATE HAS RUSTED IN MULTIPLE SPOTS MOSTLY ON THE BOTTOM EDGE. THE FUEL TANK OVERFLOWS WHEN PUMPING. *JS
PAID EXTRA TO GET THE 5.7 HEMI THAT IS SUPPOSED TO LAST FOREVER RIGHT, WELL NOW 3500 LATER WE ARE FINALLY GETTING A NEW MOTOR PUT IN IT, I BELIEVE THAT DODGE SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS ISSUE. WENT OUT TO START IT ONE MORNING AND SOUNDED LIKE A GUN SHOT, SHOT A ROD CLEAN THROUGH THE OIL PAN, BUT WORST PART IS IT WAS STILL RUNNING, STILL WILL RUN, JUST SOUNDS HORRIBLE. REALLY THINK WE SHOULD BE REIMBURSED FOR THE NEW ENGINE. *TR
I WAS APPROX 1/10 OF A MILE DOWN OUR LOCAL ROAD WHEN I HEARD A SUDDEN EXPLOSION UNDER THE CAR. IT SOUNDED AS IF THE TIRE BLEW. I IMMEDIATELY STARTED PULLING OVER BUT I CONTINUED TO HEAR A RUMBLE FROM THE CAR. UPON INSPECTION, I NOTICED THERE WAS OIL RUNNING DOWN THE FRONT PASSENGER TIRE. THE MECHANIC HAS CONFIRMED A THROWN ROD THROUGH THE ENGINE BLOCK. NO PREVIOUS WARNINGS OF ISSUES WITH THE 122,000 MILE ENGINE. CAR HAS BEEN REGULARLY MAINTAINED (BUT NOT AT A DODGE DEALER). NOW I'M FACED WITH A $6,000 BILL TO REPLACE AN ENGINE THAT SHOULD HAVE LASTED ANOTHER 100,000 MILES. AS I RESEARCHED THIS ON THE INTERNET I FOUND THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TO NUMEROUS OTHER OWNERS OF THIS MODEL ENGINE (5.7 L HEMI 2004 DODGE DURANGO LIMITED). NO RECALL HAS BEEN MADE ON THIS ENGINE ALTHOUGH IT IS EVIDENT THAT THIS IS A COMMON, COSTLY, DANGEROUS MANUFACTURING DEFECT WITH THEIR ENGINE.

THE MECHANIC ATTEMPTED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO JERK AND STALL. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO IDENTIFY THE DETAILS REGARDING THE REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000. THE APPROXIMATE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
2004 DURANGO HAS RUSTED THROUGH ON SEVERAL SPOTS. TAILGATE AND WHEEL WELLS. THIS IS EXCESSIVE FOR A VEHICLE IT'S AGE THAT HAS BEEN GARAGED AND WELL CARED FOR. I SUGGEST THAT THE ANTICORROSION COATING WAS FAULTY. I HAVE SEEN MANY DURANGO'S THIS AGE WITH THE SAME TROUBLE SPOTS. *JS
MY HUSBAND AND I WERE DRIVING TO THE STORE AFTER WORK ON APRIL 24TH. WE STOPPED FOR A STOP SIGN, SLOWLY TOOK OFF AND HEARD A BANG! WE HAD TO HAVE THE 2004 DODGE DURANGO TOWED TO A MECHANIC AND FOUND THAT THE RODS WERE BENT IN THE ENGINE...PARTICULARLY THE #7 ROD. NOT ONE SINGLE WARNING, NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, NOTHING!! WE KEPT THE OIL CHANGED ACCORDING TO SCHEDULE! THE TRUCK IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION TOO; TOP OF THE LINE VEHICLE WITH DVD PLAYER AND EVERYTHING! NOW WE'RE FACING A $4-6,000 REPLACEMENT BILL. WHY WOULD WE REPLACE IT WITH AN ENGINE THAT IS GOING TO DO THE EXACT SAME THING IN A FEW YEARS BECAUSE OF POOR QUALITY?! WE ARE DONE WITH DODGE PRODUCTS AND WE'RE GOING TO TELL EVERYONE WE KNOW WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO US. *JS
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

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHENEVER WATER CAME IN CONTACT WITH THE VEHICLE SUCH A RAIN, DRIVING THROUGH A DEEP PUDDLE OR GOING THROUGH A CAR WASH FOR INSTANCE, THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL. THE FAILURE WAS RECURRING. THE MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT THE AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR AND THE ELECTRIC THROTTLE NEEDED TO BE REPLACE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 86,000.
I STARTED MY CAR TO GO TO WORK AND THE CAR WAS MAKING A KNOCKING SOUND. I HAD MY HUSBAND CHECK THE OIL AND OTHER FLUIDS AND THEY WERE FINE. TOWED MY CAR TO A DEALERSHIP REPAIR SHOP AND THEY SAID THE ENGINE THREW A ROD AND WAS NO GOOD ANY MORE. I JUST PAID 15,000 FOR THIS CAR 6 WEEKS BEFORE AND NOW I HAVE NO VEHICLE. THE WARRANTY COMPANY SAID THEY WOULD NOT COVER IT BECAUSE THERE WASN'T ENOUGH MILES. I HAVE BEEN ON A LOT OF DIFFERENT SITES AND THEY HAVE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS FOR THIS. THEY HAVE RECALLED OTHER CARS FOR THIS SAME REASON. WHEN YOU CALL DODGE THEY JUST GIVE YOU THE RUN AROUND. *TR
I HAVE BEEN BATTLING WITH MY 2004 DODGE DURANGO 5.7L HEMI FOR YEARS NOW. EVERY TIME IT WOULD RAIN HEAVY, MY VEHICLE ACTED AS IF IT WERE GOING TO DIE. IT WOULD GET VERY JUMPY, AND I FELT LIKE I HAD TO FIGHT IT TO KEEP GOING. IF I GOT STOPPED BY A LIGHT OR STOP SIGN, IT WAS HORRIBLE. MY ENGINE LIGHT WOULD COME ON AND SOMETIMES STAY ON FOR A DAY OR TWO. I BROUGHT IT TO DIFFERENT MECHANICS WHO COULD ONLY FINE A CYLINDER MISFIRE WHEN THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS ACTUALLY STILL ON. IT SEEMED LIKE IT ALWAYS WENT OFF AS SOON AS I WAS ABLE TO GET IT TO THE MECHANIC. THE MECHANICS WERE NOT ABLE TO RECREATE THE PROBLEM I WAS HAVING IN ORDER TO VIEW WHAT THE VEHICLE WAS DOING. I HAD NUMEROUS PLUGS CHANGED AND NOTHING HELPED. IT HAS SINCE GOTTEN WORSE, YET NO ONE CAN FIGURE IT OUT. IT NOW HAPPENS IF I TAKE IT TO THE CAR WASH. THEY ARE NOT ABLE TO START IT AFTER IT COMES OUT. THEY HAVE TO TRY A FEW TIMES BEFORE THEY CAN GET IT GOING. I DECIDED TO DO MY OWN RESEARCH TO SEE IF THERE ARE ANY OTHERS OUT THERE WITH THIS ISSUE. I WAS SURPRISED TO FIND ALL THE INFORMATION I DID AND YET NO MECHANIC CAN FIND A SOLUTION. I CAME TO READ ABOUT THE HYDROLOCK ISSUE ON THIS MODEL. AFTER READING ALL THESE COMPLAINTS BY EVERYONE ELSE, I CAN'T BELIEVE THERE WOULDN'T BE A RECALL ON THIS! I HAVE LIVED WITH THIS ISSUE FOR AT LEAST 3 YEARS DREADING EVERY TIME IT RAINS HEAVY. IT MAKES ME PANICKED TO DRIVE MY VEHICLE IN ANY RAIN KNOWING THE OUTCOME OF ALL THESE OTHER PEOPLE. I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT DODGE JUST LET THIS GO ON, ESPECIALLY AFTER ALL THE COMPLAINTS. I HAVE 190,000 MILES ON IT NOW, IT IS FULL OF RUST (WHICH IS ANOTHER ISSUE THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN RESOLVED...I HAVE SEEN SO MANY DURANGOS WITH RUST ON THE BACK DOOR BY THE CHROME ABOVE THE LICENSE PLATE. IT STARTS OUT AS BUBBLING AND JUST RUSTS AWAY INTO BIG HOLES), AND THERE IS NO POINT TO REPLACE THE ENGINE. THIS ISSUE SHOULD BE ADDRESSED BY DODGE.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER SHIFTING INTO NEUTRAL, THE VEHICLE WOULD RESTART IMMEDIATELY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST BUT WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 105,397.
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE DURANGO HOME AND IT BEGAN TO KNOCK LOUDLY. BROUGHT THE VEHICLE HOME FOR INSPECTION. THE VALVE TRAIN IS FINE, BUT THE BOTTOM END HAS 2 BENT CONNECTION RODS. THESE RODS JUST RANDOMLY BENT. THE HEADS ARE FINE, THERE IS NOT WATER LEAKING, GASKETS ARE FINE. THIS SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH THE QUALITY OF MATERIALS OF THE RODS. *JS
BOUGHT OUR DURANGO NEW IN 2004,WITH THE 5.7 HEMI, SERVICED IT EVERY 3000 MILES. MY WIFE DRIVES IT AND HAD NO PROBLEMS UNTIL THE OTHER DAY WHEN SHE GOT IN TO GO TO WORK AND STARTED IT UP, AND IT SOUNDED LIKE YOU HAD THROWN GRAVEL IN A WASHING MACHINE. IM SURE IT DROP A VALVE SEAT AND CHEWED IT UP. I HAVE 27 YEARS IN AUTOMOTIVE AND I KNOW YOU SHOULD GET MORE THAN 80,000 MILE OUT OF A HIGH TECH ENGINE LIKE THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE.WE HAVE DODGES IN OUR FAMILY AND THIS IS A VERY BIG DISSAPOINTMENT BESIDES BEING VERY EXPENSIVE. ONE MORNING, AT STARTUP, THE ENGINE FAILED DUE TO BROKEN ROD. ALL MAINTENANCE WAS ALWAYS KEPT UP AND RECORDED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO LOCAL DODGE DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTION AND ALL MAINTENANCE RECORDS WERE HANDED TO THEM. UPON INSPECTION OF THE ENGINE, THE LOCAL SERVICE PERSON TOLD ME I HAD A GOOD CASE AGAINST DODGE SINCE THE ENGINE WAS IN GREAT CONDITION AND THE ROD SHOULD NOT HAVE BROKEN. THE REGIONAL DODGE INSPECTOR SHOW UP AND INSPECTED THE ENGINE AND DETERMINED THAT THE DAMAGE WAS DUE TO LACK OF MAINTENANCE. I ATTEMPTED TO TALK TO THE LOCAL SERVICE PERSON THAT I HAD SPOKE WITH BEFORE BUT THE DEALERSHIP MANAGER WOULD NOT ALLOW ME TO. THE NATIONAL DODGE REPRESENTATIVE I WAS ASSIGNED CALLED ME AND TOLD ME THAT THE ENGINE FAILED DUE TO A WATER PUMP FAILURE. THE STORY CHANGED. IN EITHER CASE, I WAS LEFT WITH A LARGE BILL BECAUSE OF FAULTY ENGINE PARTS THAT DODGE (CHRYSLER) USES ON THEIR VEHICLES. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO THOUSANDS OF OTHER DODGE DURANGO HEMI OWNERS. *TR

I OWN A 2004 5.7L HEMI MAGNUM DODGE DURANGO..WHEN I WAS LEAVING SCHOOL THE OTHER NIGHT MY DURANGO STARTED FINE. WHEN I PULLED OUT ONTO THE ROAD I ONLY GOT ABOUT 1/2 MILE BEFORE MY ENGINE MADE A HORRIBLE NOISE AND JERKED REAL HARD, MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AS DID MY OIL LIGHT. AS I WAS PULLING OFF THE ROAD I LOST THE POWER STEERING AS WELL,SMOKE POURED OUT FROM UNDER MY DURANGO. I GOT OUT AS I WAS AFRAID IT WAS GOING TO CATCH FIRE. I CALLED FOR HELP AND WAITED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE TOW TRUCK GUY GOT THERE AND TOLD ME THERE WAS OIL ALL UNDERNEATH OF MY TRUCK. I HAD IT TOWED TO MY LOCAL SHOP TO SEE WHAT WAS WRONG. GUESS WHAT? A ROD HAS BEEN PUSHED THROUGH MY ENGINE AND NOW I NEED A NEW ONE. MY DURANGO ONLY HAS 85,200 MILES ON IT. NOTICED OVER THE PAST FEW YEARS WATER WHEN IT RAINS THAT IT IS ACCUMULATING ON TOP OF THE ENGINE. NOTICED THE ENGINE FELT LIKE IT HAD A MISS FIRE ON A CYLINDER. SEAL FROM WINDSHIELD COWL IS NO LONGER MAKING A POSITIVE SEAL AND WATER IS DRIPPING DOWN ONTO THE TOP OF THE ENGINE AND ALSO INTO THE SPARK PLUGS. USING YOU TUBE THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS OF THIS ISSUE WHICH IN TURN HAS RESULTED IN WHAT IS CALLED HYRO-LOC OF THE ENGINE WHICH IS CAUSING PUSH RODS TO BREAK AND CAUSING THE ENGINE TO COMPLETELY FAIL, AS IN MY CASE PUSHING A ROD THRU THE BLOCK OF THE ENGINE SPILLING OIL OUT ON TO THE STREET. SHUTTING DOWN THE ENGINE LOOSING ALL POWER TO STEER AND CONTROL VEHICLE. LUCKILY I WAS NOT ON A MAIN HIGHWAY TRAVELING AT 60MPH AS THIS COULD HAVE BEEN AS DISASTROUS ACCIDENT.THERE SHOULD BE SOME TYPE OF RECALL ON THE WATER PROBLEM AND THIS ENGINE CATASTROPHE RESULTING FORM THIS PROBLEM, AS OF TODAY DODGE/CHRYSLER HAS NO KNOWN ISSUE OF THIS SORT, WHICH IS HARD TO BELIEVE. THE NEXT DAY AFTER DRIVING ABOUT 6 MILES TO WORK (AGAIN WITH NO INCIDENT), I STARTED THE VEHICLE AND DROVE ABOUT 100 YARDS AND IT SOUNDED LIKE ROCKS AND RUBBER WERE FLYING ALL OVER UNDER THE HOOD (HEAVY KNOCKING SOUND). HAD IT TOWED TO THE GARAGE AND HAVE BEEN TOLD THE OIL HAS TURNED TO SLUDGE AND THAT THE MOTOR THREW A ROD. THE REPAIR QUOTE INCLUDES PUTTING IN A NEW MOTOR AND THE COST IS $4,000 - $5,000. WE DO NOT HAVE THE FUNDS AND STILL OWE ALMOST $8,000 ON THE VEHICLE. THIS IS A CRIME! *TR

WATER IS GETTING UNDER THE COWL AND ONTO MY MOTOR. I HAVE TAKEN MY 2004 HEMI DURANGO TO SEVERAL SHOPS/DEALERS AND THE WATER IS CAUSING ALL KINDS OF PROBLEMS. THE CYLINDERS ARE MISFIRING, SOME OF THE METAL PARTS UNDER THE HOOD HAVE RUSTED IRREPARABLY (IE. MOTOR HEAT GUARDS), THE WINDSHIELD GETS ICE ON THE INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE, MY HEADLIGHTS BLINK ON AND OFF WHILE DRIVING, THE HEAT WORKS ONLY SOMETIMES DUE TO THE WIRES UNDER THE PASSENGER SIDE DASH GETTING WET, AND THIS WATER GETTING THROUGH IS ALSO CAUSING MY CAR TO STALL OR ALMOST STALL EVERY TIME IT RAINS OR TAKE IT THROUGH A CAR WASH. THIS WATER IS CAUSING ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. IT IS ALSO RUSTING HORRIBLY FAST NEAR THE WHEEL WELLS AND ON THE BACK TRUNK HATCH. WITHIN ONLY 2 WEEKS OF COLD WEATHER I NOW HAVE A SOLID HOLE FROM THE RUST. WHY CAN'T THEY RECALL SOME PARTS AND FIX THIS? WATER HAS SOMEHOW GOTTEN INTO MY MOTOR CAUSING ALL KINDS OF ISSUES. WITHIN THE PAST YEAR, IT HAS HAD ISSUES RUNNING HOT, RUNNING POORLY WHEN IT RAINS AND ROUGH IDLE ON OCCASION. AFTER SITTING FOR 24 HOURS, I WENT OUT TO CRANK IT AND IT JUMPED (I THOUGHT A SMALL ANIMAL HAD CRAWLED INTO MY MOTOR) AND IT SHUT OFF. I THEN RE-CRANKED IT AND IT SOUNDS LIKE A SEWING MACHINE. I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED AND AM NOW LOOKING AT $4000 FOR ANOTHER MOTOR. I'VE HAVE RESEARCHED THE INTERNET AND AM TOTALLY BLOWN AWAY AT THE OTHERS HAVING THE ISSUES WITH THE SAME EXACT MAKE AND MODEL OF VEHICLE. THIS IS SOMETHING CHRYSLER SHOULD MAKE RIGHT. WE HAD IT TOWED TO A DODGE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THE CAMSHAFT AND PISTONS NEED TO BE REPLACED. BUT HAVEN'T REALLY TORN THE ENGINE APART TO DIAGNOSE EVERYTHING. TOTAL COST TO REBUILD THE BOTTOM HALF ONLY IS $5,000.00. THE SERVICE GUY TOLD ME IT WAS ONE OF THE CLEANEST ENGINES HE HAS SEEN TOO. I TOLD THEM THAT WAS TOO MUCH AND THEY WENT DOWN TO $4,100.00. BUT WE FOUND ANOTHER LICENSED SHOP TO REBUILD FOR LESS. THE SHOP DOING THE WORK HAS 3 OTHER DURANGOS AT HIS SHOP WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS ENGINE SHOULD HAVE LASTED A LOT LONGER THAN 90,900 MILES. I CHECKED EDMUNDS.COM AND LOTS OF PEOPLE HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS SAME ISSUE. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THAT THEY SOLD OVER A MILLION AND A HALF OF THESE VEHICLES AND THIS IS A FLUKE THAT IT HAPPENED TO A FEW OF THEM. *TR

I PUT GEAR SHIFTER IN NUETRAL, DISCONNECTED SERPENTINE BELT, AND TRIED TO MANUALLY TURN ENGINE AT CRANKSHAFT. I COULD NOT GET IT TO BUDGE. WHEN I LOOKED UP ONLINE, I WAS SURPRISED TO SEE HOW MANY PEOPLE WITH THIS MOTOR HAD IT SIEZE, I CALLED CHRYSLER,AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO FOR ME, BEING AS IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY, AND THEIR WAS NO RECALL. I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW THE GOVERNMENT DOESN'T HOLD THE CAR MANUFACTURERS TO STRICTER STANDARDS ,FOR ISSUES LIKE THIS.I'M NOT ANY KIND OF A COMPUTER GURU, AND I'VE FOUND HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE WITH SIMILAR ISSUE, ONLINE.
