SLOWING FOR A STOP SIGN AT ABOUT 15 MPH ROD BROKE AND WENT THROUGH BLOCK. COMPLETE ENGINE FAILURE. AT 120,000 MILES THIS IS RIDICULOUS. NO NOISE OR ANY WARNING , ALWAYS CHANGED OIL. DAUGHTER HAS HONDA WITH 200K ON IT AND STILL RUNS GREAT. WHAT IS WITH CHRYSLER?? REMEMBER THE OLD FIAT== FIX IT AGAIN [XXX]?? IF DODGE THINKS THEY WILL SELL ME ANOTHER CAR I DON'T THINK SO!! AND NOW THE DEALER IS TRYING TO PUT ME IN A NEW ONE! WILL GIVE ME A SONG FOR MINE. IT'S BROKE. AND FINDING A MOTOR IS NOT FUN EITHER. SEEMS THE JUNK YARDS CAN'T KEEP THEM. SELL AS SOON AS THEY GET THEM. IT'S TO BAD THEY WON'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT THIS. HOW MANY COMPLAINTS FOR THE SAME PROBLEM BEFORE THE GOVERNMENT SAYS ENOUGH IS ENOUGH?? WENT TO START THE DURANGO WHEN COLD HERD A LOUD KNOCKING NOISE. I SHUT THE DURANGO OFF AND CHECKED UNDER THE HOOD TO SEE IF ANYTHIG WAS STUCK UNDER THE CAR. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A SERVICE STATION AND THEY INFORMED ME THE ENGINE WAS NO GOOD AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CAR HAS ONLY 65000 MILES ON IT AND THE POWERTRAIN WARENTEE IS OUT ON 8/30/11. I CAN NOT PAY 6000 DOLLARS FOR A REBUILT MOTOR AT THIS TIME AND NEED A CAR TO GET BACK AND FORTH TO WORK.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHERE THE MECHANIC CONFIRMED THAT A CONNECTING ROD HAD DETACHED AND PUNCTURED A HOLE IN THE ENGINE BLOCK. THE ENGINE WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 DODGE DURANGO. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 25 MPH WHEN THE ENGINE STALLED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT PRIOR TO THE FAILURE, THE OIL WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE DEALER CONFIRMED THAT THE ENGINE ROD FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 120,000.
The contact owns a 2004 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that while his wife was driving 10 MPH and making a left turn in the rain, the vehicle shut off. There were no warning lights illuminated. While at a car wash, the vehicle shut off. The contact stated that the water was entering the engine compartment. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where an unknown diagnosis was provided. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 115,000.
MY WELL MAINTAINED GARAGE KEPT 2004 5.7L DURANGO WITH 119,000 MILES WITH ABSOLUTELY NO WARNING FAILED TO START ONE MORNING AFTER SITTING FOR ABOUT 3 DAYS. IT MADE A LOUD NOISE. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT IT HAD SEIZED AND I WOULD NEED A NEW ENGINE. THE COST WOULD BE $7200. THE ONLY PROBLEM I HAD PREVIOUSLY WAS THAT IT WOULD STALL DURING EXTREME RAIN STORMS BUT IT OCCURRED INFREQUENTLY AND ONLY UNDER EXTREME CONDITIONS. THE DEALER HAD SUPPOSEDLY FIXED THE PROBLEM WITH THIS A FEW MONTHS EARLIER. I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE BRAND NEW IN 2004 AND HAD ALWAYS MAINTAINED IT EXACTLY AS RECOMMENDED. *KB
THE 5.7 DODGE DURANGO MOTOR IS A TICKING TIME BOMB THEY RUN SMOOTHLY THEN WITH OUT ANY WARNING BLOW UP. I ONLY HAD 122723 MILES ON IT WHEN IT BLEW IT RAN GREAT TILL THE ROAD CAME OUT THROUGH THE BLOCK. WHAT IS IT GOING TO TAKE FOR YOU TO MAKE CHRYSLER MAKE A RECALL ON THIS SOME ONE TO GET KILLED WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGH WAY CAUSE I'M GLAD I WAS WITH MY WIFE OR THAT CASE COULD OF BEEN SOONER THAN U EXPECTED. CHRYSLER NEEDS TO BE HELD RELIABLE FOR THERE HUGE ENGINE MISTAKE IN THIS MIDDLE YEAR BEFORE THEY KILL SOME ONE GOING FROM 65 - 0 ON THE HIGH WAY IS TOTALLY UN SAFE COME ON GOVERNMENT STEP UP TO THE PLATE IF THIS WAS SO BACK YARD COMPANY YOU WOULD OF SHUT THEM DOWN BY NOW DO WHAT'S RIGHT AND FORCE THEM TO HAVE A RECALL BEFORE SOME ONE GETS HURT BAD OR DIES. KIDS RIDE IN THESE VEHICLES IF WE WOULD DO SOMETHING LIKE COVER UP A PROBLEM WE WOULD BE PERSECUTED FOR CRIMINAL NEGLECT AND ENDANGERING THE WELFARE OF A CHILD. AND THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT CHRYSLER MOTOR CORP IS DOING ENDANGERING THE WELFARE OF OUR CHILDREN AND FAMILY'S SO STEP UP AD FORCE THE TO FIX THE PROBLEM. *TR
ENGINE BLEW WITH OUT ANY SIGN NO NOISE UNTIL IT WENT POOF AND CLOUD OF BLUE SMOKE AND ROD WAS THROUGH THE BLOCK. IF MY HUSBAND WOULDN'T OF BEEN WITH ME AND MY KIDS WOULD OF BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT CAUSE I WOULD OF THOUGHT I JUST RAN OVER SOMETHING. STARTED MY VEHICLE AND HEARD A HORRIBLE GRINDING METAL SOUND. TOWED IT TO A MECHANIC WHO SAID THAT A ROD HAD BLOWN A TWO INCH HOLE IN MY ENGINE BLOCK. THERE WERE PIECES OF METAL IN A PILE OF OIL UNDER MY VEHICLE WHEN IT WAS TOWED AND 2 LARGE CHUNKS FOUND UPON INSPECTION OF VEHICLE. THERE WAS NO WARNING. NO PROBLEMS PRIOR. VEHICLE RAN FINE THE DAY BEFORE. NO LIGHTS EVER CAME ON THE DASH EITHER, NO CHECK ENGINE...ETC. UPON RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE- I HAVE FOUND NUMEROUS SIMILAR STORIES. HOPING A CLASS ACTION SUIT WILL BE INVESTIGATED. *TR
STARTED VEHICLE AND HEARD A LOUD KNOCKING, SHUT THE VEHICLE DOWN THINKING SOMETHING MAY BE UNDERNEATH, RESTARTED THE VEHICLE WITH SAME RESULT. HAD VEHICLE LOOKED AT BY MECHANIC, SAYS THAT IT SOUNDS TO BE A PISTON ROD. TOOK OIL SAMPLE, AND FOUND METAL SHAVINGS. VEHICLE MAINTENANCE HAS BEEN PER MANUFACTURER RECOMMENDATIONS, ALONG WITH ALL WARRANTY AND RECALL WORK. FROM READINGS, THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING TO OTHER PEOPLE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. MECHANIC SAYS ENGINE WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED. OTHER ISSUES INCLUDE VEHICLE SHUTTING OFF WHILE DRIVING USUALLY WHEN IT RAINS, OR DURING TURNS. *TR
WHEN COMING TO A STOP MY VEHICLE STALLS / DIES! DO NOT GET A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. HAVE HAD A DODGE COMPUTER PUT ON IT AND NO CODES WERE FOUND. *TR
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD WHEN THERE WAS A LOUD CLANK. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER. IT WAS THEN TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP AND WE WERE TOLD THE VEHICLE'S ENGINE THREW A ROD. I HAD NO PRIOR PROBLEMS WITH THE ENGINE BEFORE THIS. WE WERE THEN TOLD THAT BY THE REPAIR SHOP THAT THEY WERE UNABLE TO FIND A REBUILT MOTOR AS THEY ARE ON A TWO YEAR WAITING LIST. WE WERE ALSO TOLD THAT DODGE WAS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND THAT WE CAN BUY A NEW ENGINE FROM THEM BECAUSE THEY FIXED THIS PROBLEM WITH THE NEW ENGINE. *JS
MY PASSENGER AND I WERE SITTING AT A RED LIGHT. THE CHECK ENGINE OF MY 2004 DODGE DURANGO LIMITED (5.7LTR) CAME ON, THEN THE BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON AND BOTH OF THOSE LIGHTS STARTED TO FLICKER. THERE WAS A LOUD SQUEAL AND A POP, THEN THE ENGINE STALLED AND I FELT THE BRAKE PEDAL FALL STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR. WHITE SMOKE STARTED TO EMERGE FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT, WHICH QUICKLY TURNED A THICK BLACK COLOR. I COULDN'T EVEN SEE THROUGH THE SMOKE, AS IT WAS SO DENSE. I GRABBED MY PHONE AND PROCEEDED TO CALL ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE TO GET THE VEHICLE OFF OF THE ROAD (THE VEHICLE WAS BLOCKING A LANE OF A MAJOR HIGHWAY IN MY TOWN). I STARTED TO SMELL BURNING PLASTIC AND THOUGHT, "AM I ON FIRE?". MY PASSENGER INSTRUCTED ME TO LOWER MY WINDOW BECAUSE ANOTHER DRIVER WAS YELLING SOMETHING AND MAKING HAND GESTURES. WHEN I TRIED TO USE THE WINDOWS, I NOTICED THAT I HAD LOST ALL POWER. IN A PANIC I OPENED THE DOOR AND INSTRUCTED MY PASSENGER TO DO THE SAME. THAT WAS WHEN WE HEARD WHAT THE OTHER DRIVERS WERE SCREAMING. "GET OUT OF THE TRUCK, IT'S ON FIRE!". WHEN I TURNED TO GET OUT OF THE VEHICLE, THAT WAS WHEN I SAW THE FLAMES FLOWING UP THE WINDSHIELD ABOUT 4" LONG. WE JUMPED OUT OF THE VEHICLE AND RAN ACROSS THE ROAD TO THE CURB, TURNED TO VIEW THE VEHICLE, SEEN THAT IT WAS A LARGE FIRE AND DECIDED TO RUN ABOUT 200-300 FEET AWAY FROM IT. JUST IN CASE IT EXPLODED. THE FIREMEN WERE THERE IN UNDER A MINUTE, BUT THE VEHICLE WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES IN ABOUT 30 TO 45 SECONDS. I HAVE A LARGE FAMILY AND IT'S A GOOD THING THEY WERE NOT ALL WITH ME, AS IS THE CASE 90% OF THE TIME. I DO NOT KNOW IF I WOULD'VE HAD TIME TO GET THREE SMALL CHILDREN OUT OF THEIR CARSEATS IN TIME. THIS COULD'VE ENDED MUCH WORSE THAN IT DID. *TR
ON 12-7-11, I WAS DRIVING THROUGH AN INTERSECTION AT ABOUT 25 MPH WHEN I HEARD AND FELT A LOUD BANG AND RATTLING FROM THE ENGINE. THERE WASN'T ANY WARNING FROM THE DASH BOARD NOR WAS THE ANY PINGING PRIOR TO THE ENGINES CATASTROPHIC FAILURE. I HAD LOST ALL POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES. THE ENGINE OIL WAS ALSO SPILL OUT OF THE BOTTOM OF THE ENGINE. I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO BE ABLE TO ROLL TO A STOP OUT OF THE LINE OF TRAFFIC.WE HAVE RECEIPTS THAT SHOW WE MAINTAINED MY VEHICLE REGULARLY. WE HAVE NOT HAD ANY COOPERATION FROM THE DEALERSHIP OR THE MANUFACTURER AS OF YET. I HAVE ALSO RESEARCHED SEVERAL INCIDENTS WITH THE 5.7 DODGE HEMI ENGINE. I ALSO RESEARCHED THAT, TO MY UNDERSTANDING, THE CHRYSLER CORP KNEW OF HE POTENTIAL FAILURE IN THE 2004/05 5.7 ENGINE, MADE THE CHANGES TO THE ENGINE BUT DID NOT ISSUE A RECALL. I AM ASKING FOR ASSISTANCE AND/OR ADVICE AS TO WHAT ACTION I AND MANY OTHERS SHOULD TAKE AT THIS POINT. THANK YOU. *TR
WE HAVE A 2004 DODGE DURANGO IT HAS BEEN A GOOD VEHICLE MY WIFE JUST LOVES IT BUT THE OTHER DAY SHE WENT TO LEAVE FOR WORK AND WHEN SHE STARTED THE MOTOR IT STARTED MAKING THIS REALLY LOUD TICKING NOISE. WELL I CALLED THE MECHANIC AND HE TOLD ME HE WOULD STOP BY ON HIS WAY HOME TO LISTEN TO IT HE DID AND SAID IT WAS NOT GOOD TO GO AHEAD AND BRING IT TO THE SHOP AND THEY WOULD LOOK AT IT. I HAD IT TRAILERED INTO THE SHOP AND LATER THAT DAY IS WHEN WE GOT THE BAD NEWS. THE MOTOR HAS VERY SERIOUS INTERNAL PROBLEMS IT'S EITHER A ROD, WRIST PIN OR PISTON SKIRT AND CAN COST US UP TO $6,000 FOR NEW MOTOR OR REBUILD THE LOWER END OF THIS ONE THEY WILL NEED TO PULL THE MOTOR TO TELL FOR SURE WHAT IT IS, WE NEVER HAD ANY WARNING SIGNS AT ALL THAT THERE MAY BE A PROBLEM IT JUST HAPPENED. SORRY BUT WE CAN NOT AFFORD TO REPLACE A ENGINE EVERY 90,000 MILES AND CAN NOT AFFORD TO GET THE REPAIRS DONE NOW, WE HAVE CHANGED THE OIL EVERY 5000 MILE PER MANUFACTURE RECOMMENDATION. AFTER FURTHER INVESTIGATION I SEE THAT DODGE IS HAVING A SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH THESE MOTORS AND ARE MISLEADING THE PUBLIC WITH ALL THE HYPE ABOUT THE HEMI MOTOR AND THEY ARE NOT DOING A DARN THING ABOUT THE ISSUES THEY ARE HAVING. MY WARRANTY JUST RAN OUT 4 MONTHS AGO OR 19000 MILES AGO AND THE DEALERSHIP SAID THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. I FEEL THE ENGINES SHOULD LAST LONGER THEN 90,000 MILES AND I AM VERY PEED OFF ABOUT THIS HE HAVE OWNED DODGES FOREVER AND NOW THIS HAPPENS AND THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO! MY WIFE DOES NOT LIKE DODGE VERY MUCH NOW. *TR
THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN FINE, AFTER THE RECALLS WERE DONE,. I HAVE 5 KIDS LOVE THE SPACE AND POWER. I HAVE HAD RECENT PROBLEMS WITH WATER IN THE CAR WASH AND WHEN RAINING MAKING IT WANT TO STALL BUT IT KEPT ON RUNNING. EVERYTHING WAS GREAT UNTIL YESTERDAY MORNING. MY WIFE WENT OUT TO TAKE THE KIDS TO MCDONALD'S AND SHE SAYS "IT SOUNDED LIKE A LARGE BALLOON POPPED" WITH A LARGE AMOUNT OF SMOKE COMING FROM THE EXHAUST. NOW I HAVE WHAT SOUNDS LIKE A LOUD TICK OR A KNOCK FROM THE PASSENGERSIDE BACK. IT HOWEVER SOUNDS LIKE A LAWN MOWER RUNNING WHEN IT DOES RUN AND PER VALVOLINE SERVICE "NO FIRE ON NUMBER EIGHT CYLINDER". AS I NOW HAVE READ I AM NOT THE ONLY INDIVIDUAL WITH THE PROBLEM AND IT IS NOT ISOLATED. IF I HAD NOT BEEN DOING THE RECOMMENDED MATINANCE AND NOT KEEPING UP ON THIS TRUCK I COULD UNDERSTAND, BUT A VEHICLE COSTING OVER $32,000.00 NEW SHOULD LAST MORE THAN 97,000 MILES. SOMEONE NEEDS TO STAND UP AND BE ACCOUNTABLE. *KB
UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE IN THE AM AFTER DAILY USE,A LOUD NOISE AS IF THE FAN BELT BROKE OR STONES THROWING AROUND WAS HEARD AND OIL STARTED FLOWING FROM MOTOR. PIECES OF CAST METAL FOUND UNDER THE VEHICLE IN THE MIDST OF THE OIL....ROD BLEW THROUGH!!! ONLY 100K MILES AND OIL WAS FILLED, MAINTENANCE ALWAYS COMPLETED. WE ARE ORIG OWNERS. THIS WAS A $35K V8 ENGINE VEHICLE THAT HAS BEEN MAINTAINED. THIS SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED AND AS SEEN ON THE EMONDS SITE AS WILL AS DODGE, THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE AND NO RECOURSE FOR THE OWNER WHO HAS DONE WHAT HE OR SHE WAS TO DO AS FAR AS UPKEEP ON THEIR VEHICLE??? AGAIN THIS IS NOT A CHEAP VEHICLE AND WE ARE A FAMILY OF 5 WITH 1 INCOME. HOW AND WHY SHOULD WE HAVE TO FIX THIS PROBLEM? TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 DODGE DURANGO. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED THE CONTACT NOTICED THERE WAS ANTIFREEZE AND WATER LEAKING UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MECHANIC STATED THE WATER PUMP WAS LEAKING AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 81,000.
FROM THE TIME I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE ENGINE (5.7L HEMI). WHEN DRIVING IN RAIN OR GOING THROUGH AN AUTOMATIC CAR WASH THE ENGINE WOULD START MISSING AND SOMETIMES DIE. THIS WOULD MAKE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COME ON. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO DEALERS IN BOTH KENTUCKY & NORTH CAROLINA AND TO VARIOUS AUTO PARTS STORES AS WELL AS INDEPENDENT MECHANICS. THE DIAGNOSTICS READER ALWAYS SHOWED MISFIRE IN #2 CYLINDER BUT NO ONE COULD TELL ME WHAT CAUSED IT. EVEN THOUGH I KEPT THE OIL CHANGED AS WELL AS OTHER MAINTENANCE IT STARTED KNOCKING AND BLEW AT 124,000 MILES. I CONTACTED DODGE AND THEY ASSURED ME THAT THEY KNEW OF NO PROBLEMS WITH THESE VEHICLES. I REPLACED THE ENGINE WITH ONE FROM A WRECKING YARD WITH 60,000 MILES. SAME PROBLEMS WITH RAIN AND CAR WASHES. IT LASTED 2 YEARS AND 21,000 MILES. I CONTACTED DODGE AND GOT THE SAME REPLY. AFTER RESEARCHING ON LINE IT SEEMS THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE THAT HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM THAT I HAVE. I WAS ONE OF THE LUCKY ONES. MINE BLEW UP IN THE DRIVEWAY INSTEAD OF ON THE HIGHWAY. DODGE SEEMS TO HAVE REMEDIED THE PROBLEM IN 2006 & LATER MODELS BUT STILL WON'T ADMIT THAT THERE IS A MAJOR AND POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS PROBLEM IN THE 2004 & 2005 MODELS. I FEEL THAT DODGE SHOULD HAVE TO REPAIR THESE VEHICLES AND REIMBURSE THE OWNERS FOR REPAIRS WE HAVE ALREADY DONE THANK YOU *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 DODGE DURANGO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AN ENGINE ROD FAILED. THE CONTACT WAS TRYING TO REVERSE FROM A RESIDENTIAL DRIVEWAY WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT THE ENGINE ROD HAD FAILED. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND ALSO ADVISED THAT THE FAILURE WAS UNCOMMON FOR SUCH LOW MILEAGE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 119,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 130,000.
2004 DODGE DURANGO. CONSUMER STATES BRAKE FAILURE WHILE DRIVING *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE MECHANIC FOUND A BROKEN VALVE WHICH CAUSED THE BRAKE FAILURE. WHEN THE MECHANIC CONTACTED THE NEAREST CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP TO OBTAIN THE PART, HE WAS INFORMED THE PART WAS NO LONGER BEING MANUFACTURED BY CHRYSLER. THE MECHANIC THEN LOCATED A PART OUT OF STATE AND HAD IT SENT TO HIM, ONLY TO FIND OUT, THE PART WAS NOT CORRECT DUE TO A CERTAIN PERCENTAGE OF 2004 DODGE DURANGO'S BEING PRODUCED AS NOT HAVING POIS-TRACTION. THE CONSUMER STATED CHRYSLER GAVE HER MECHANIC THE RUN-AROUND FOR THREE WEEKS.
MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 70 MPH (OUT OF TOWN) WHEN HE HEARD A VERY LOUD "POP". THE ENGINE FAILED AND HE HAD TO MAKE HIS WAY OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED AND VERY LITTLE CONTROL DUE TO ENGINE FAILURE. HE SAID THE TRUCK JERKED SO HARD IT ACTUALLY FELT LIKE HE HIT SOMETHING. WHEN HE MADE IT OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD HE GOT OUT OF THE VEHICLE AND OIL WAS LEAKING FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE VEHICLE. HE HAD THE TRUCK TOWED TO A GARAGE. AFTER THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN INSPECTED THE VEHICLE HE SAID IT BLEW A ROD THROUGH THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE COSTS ME NEARLY $30,000.00 AND HAD 129,000 MILES ON IT. AFTER TALKING WITH SEVERAL DIFFERENT MECHANICS I WAS TOLD THAT THESE ENGINES ARE KNOW FOR THIS PROBLEM. A JASPER REPLACEMENT ENGINE COST ABOUT $7000.00!!!! I TELEPHONED DODGE ON A FEW DIFFERENT OCCASIONS AND THEY REFUSE TO HELP BECAUSE MY EXTENDED WARRANTY I PAID THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS FOR EXPIRED. I SURELY THOUGHT I WAS BUYING A QUALITY VEHICLE BUT APPARENTLY I AM WRONG. I AM SURE GLAD I WASN'T DRIVING WITH MY KIDS WHEN THIS HAPPENED, ONE WRONG MOVE AND THE VEHICLE COULD HAVE HIT ANOTHER CAR! I WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 15 MPH IN MY 2004 DODGE DURANGO WITH THE 5.7 HEMI. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND BEFORE I COULD PULL OVER THE ENGINE BLEW. IT KNOCKED A WHOLE IN THE SIDE OF THE ENGINE AND IMMEADIATELY STOPPED. THE ENGINE HAD 113,000 MILES ON IT AND MAINTENANCED REGUARLY. I HAVE READ IN SEVERAL FORUMS WITH SEVERAL PEOPLE WITH THE EXACT SAME ISSUE. I CALLED DODGE AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. THIS IS AN ABSOLUTE OUTRAGE, I AM MILITARY AND LIVING ON A FIXED BUDGET AS IT IS AND CAN'T AFFORD THE PRICE OF ANOTHER ENGINE. WITH ALL THE ISSUES THAT THE 2004 HEMI'S ARE HAVING, THERE HAS TO BE AN ISSUE WITH THIS PARTICULAR ENGINE. WHEN IT WOULD RAIN MY VEHICLE WOULD STALL, SO I AM NOT SURE IF THAT HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE ENGINE FAILING. SEVERAL PEOPLE HAVE HAD THE EXACT SAME ISSUE AS THAT AS WELL. *TT
WAS GOING TO LEAVE FOR WORK, STARTED MY TRUCK TO AN INSTANT HORRIBLE KNOCKING SOUND! NEVER EVEN PUT IT IN DRIVE. HAD IT TOWED TO MY MECHANIC, AND WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS A HOLE IN THE ENGINE BLOCK, CAUSED BY A ROD. NO WARNING SIGNS OR CHECK ENGINE/OIL LIGHTS EVER CAME ON.. *TR
I WAS DRIVING TO WORK GOING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH WHEN I PUT ON THE BREAK AS TRAFFIC HAD GOTTEN A LITTLE THICK. AS I RELEASED MY FOOT OFF OF THE BREAK THE CAR KIND OF JUMPED (SIMILAR TO WHEN ITS IN CRUISE CONTROL) AND I NOTICED THAT IT WAS PICKING UP SPEED BY ITSELF. I IMMEDIATELY THOUGHT THAT SOMEHOW IT HAD GONE INTO CRUISE CONTROL ON ITS OWN BUT WHEN I AGAIN TRIED TO PUT THE BREAK ON I NOTICED THAT THE BREAK PEDAL WAS A BIT RESISTANT AND WHEN I REMOVED MY FOOT IT AGAIN BEGAN TO ACCELERATE ON ITS OWN. STILL THINKING THIS WAS A CRUISE CONTROL ISSUE I HIT THE OFF BUTTON BUT THIS DID NOT HELP. NOT KNOWING WHAT TO DO AND REALIZING THAT GETTING THE CAR TO SLOW DOWN WAS VERY DIFFICULT I DIDN'T WANT TO EXIT THE EXPRESSWAY AND NOT BE ABLE TO STOP OR PREVENT AN ACCIDENT SO I CONTINUED MY DRIVE TO WORK WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE KNOWING THAT IN THE WORSE CASE SCENARIO THERE WAS A FIELD I COULD CRASH INTO (AT MY WORK EXIT) IF I COULD NOT GET THE CAR TO STOP. AT ONE POINT I TOOK MY FOOT OFF OF THE BREAK TO SEE IF THE SPEED WOULD CONTINUE TO RISE OR IF IT WOULD STOP AT ANY POINT, BUT AFTER IT BEGAN TO APPROACH 100MPH (IT WAS CLEAR THAT IT WAS GOING TO CONTINUE RISING)AND SCARING ME EVEN FURTHER I PUT MY FOOT BACK ON THE BREAK. UPON EXITING THE EXPRESSWAY I PUT BOTH FEET ON THE BREAK AND PRESSED DOWN AS HARD AS I COULD, ONLY MANAGING TO GET THE SPEED TO ABOUT 30 MPH BEFORE I PUT IT INTO NEUTRAL AND SHUT IT OFF. I WAS LATER TOLD BY THE MECHANIC THAT MY THROTTLE WAS STUCK. NEEDLESS TO SAY IT WAS ONE OF THE SCARIEST EXPERIENCES IN MY LIFE! *TR

MY LATEST DISCOVERY, I GOT IN MY VEHICLE, TURNED ON THE IGNITION, AND THE CAR EVENTUALLY DIED, WITH NO FURTHER TURNOVER. ON SEPTEMBER 12, 2011, I WAS DRIVING MY 2004 DODGE DURANGO (71,300MI 5.7L HEMI) WHEN THE ENGINE FAILED. I HAD PULLED ONTO THE STREET AND WAS ACCELERATING TO 45MPH. I WAS UP TO APPROXIMATELY 35MPH WHEN I HEARD A VERY LOUD POP, MORE LIKE AN EXPLOSION, FOLLOWED BY VERY LOUD ''SLAPPING'' NOISES COMING FROM THE ENGINE AREA. WITHIN SECONDS I REALIZED IT WAS A MAJOR ENGINE OR TRANSMISSION PROBLEM, AND I WAS GOING TO BE STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. BEFORE SO, I WAS ABLE TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL AND COAST OFF TO THE SIDE. I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT MY WIFE OR DAUGHTER WOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO DO THE SAME. THEY WOULD HAVE STOPPED WITHIN SECONDS IN THE MIDDLE OF THIS VERY BUSY ROAD. THE LOUD SLAPPING NOISES STOPPED ONCE THE CAR WAS IN NEUTRAL. I WAS ABLE TO PUT THE CAR INTO PARK AND VISUALLY CHECK AROUND. I SAW NOTHING OTHER THAN A SMALL TRAIL OF OIL BEHIND THE CAR, A SMALL PUDDLE UNDER THE DRIVER''S SIDE OF THE ENGINE, AND A LARGE AMOUNT OF OIL ON THE UNDERSIDE AND ON THE SIDE OF THE ENGINE ON THE DRIVER''S SIDE. I HAD BEEN BY THE DEALERSHIP A MONTH BEFORE AND INQUIRED ABOUT SUDDEN ENGINE DYING WHILE DRIVING. MY VEHICLE HASS DONE THIS SEVERSL TIMES WHILE AT ANY SPEED WITH STEERING LOSS. I HAVE BEEN ON SEVERAL SITE AND PEOPLE WHO OWN DODGE DURANGO ARE HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. I HAD THE CAR DIAGNOSED THEY SAID IT WAS THE O2 SENSOR AND THE DURANGO HAS 4 SO I HAD THEM REPLACED. THE PROBLEM STOPPED FOR ABOUT 2 MONTHS THEN STARTED AGAIN SAID ITS MISSING BECAUSE I NEED A TUNE UP GOT THE TUNE UP STILL DOING IT. THEN ITS STILL BUCKING SHUTTING OFF WHILE YOUR DRIVING HESITATING WHEN YOU BACK UP AND PULL OFF. SO I HAD IT DIAGNOSED AGAIN SAID THE COIL NEED TO BE REPLACED. REPLACED THAT CHECK ENGINE LINE STILL ON STILL BUCKING SHUTTING OFF WHEN WHEN YOUR DRIVING HESITATING WHEN YOU BACK UP AND PULL OFF. HAD IT DIAGNOSED AGAIN SAID ITS THE PCM BUT IT CAN MASK ITSELF AS THE MAP SENSOR, TPS, CRANK OR CAM POSITIONING SENSOR. DODGE KNOWS THIS IS A ONGOING PROBLEM AND REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT BECAUSE OF THERE SHOTTY WORKMANSHIP NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES YOU REPLACE IT YOU STILL END UP HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM DOWN THE LINE AND ITS VERY EXPENSIVE. ITS NOT RIGHT THAT DODGE OR SHALL WE SAME DAMIEN CHRYSLER WANT REMEMDY THE PROBLEM. THE CRAZY THING IS THE WIRING HARNESS IS AFFECTED TO AND THE PARTS ALONE FOR THAT IS 1180 PCM 400 AND THATS USED AND YOU HAVE TO GET IT REBUILT WHICH CAUSING A PROBLEM BECAUSE IT CAN STILL BE DEFECTIVE.
MY 2004 DURANGO HAD SAT FOR 2 DAYS IN RAINY WEATHER. WHEN ATTEMPTING TO START THERE WAS A LOUD BANG OR CLUNK. I ATTEMPTED TO START IT AGAIN AND WHEN IT STARTED THERE WAS A LOUD TAPPING NOISE. I IMMEDIATELY SHUT IT OFF. I LOOKED AROUND AND UNDER THE CAR FOUND A PUDDLE OF OIL AS WELL AS 3 PIECES OF IRON ,1WITH A CHRYSLER SYMBOL MOLDED INTO IT. APPARENTLY THE ENGINE HYDRO LOCKED AND THREW A PISTON ROD THROUGH THE BLOCK. I HAD IT TOWED TO MY LOCAL MECHANIC AND HE VERIFIED THIS WAS THE CASE. CHECKING VARIOUS FORUMS THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH 04 DURANGOS WITH 5.7 HEMIS. MANY MANY INCIDENTS SOME WHILE DRIVING WERE REPORTED. WEAK ENGINE COMPONENTS AS WELL AS A POORLY DESIGNED WINDSHIELD COWL HAS CONTRIBUTED TO THE PROBLEM, WHICH CHRYSLER HAS DENIED. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS IT COULD HAPPEN AT ANY TIME AT ANY SPEED. I HOPE SOMETHING CAN BE DONE. DODGE SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR A POORLY DESIGNED ENGINE AND COWL. THANK YOU

MY 2004 DURANGO 5.7 HEMI WAS BOUGHT IN 2003 BRAND NEW OFF OF GOODWINS LOT IN OUR TOWN OF NEW CASTLE, IN. WE HAD THE TRUCK APPROX. 3 YEARS BEFORE WE BEGAN HAVING PROBLEMS. PROBLEMS LIKE A "TICKING" NOISE, WHEN IT RAINED, THE TRUCK WOULD DIE--IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD-WHILE DRIVING, WHICH WAS VERY DANGEROUS-TO MYSELF AND OTHER MOTORISTS. THE OIL WAS CHANGED PER EVERY 3 MTHS-AS INSTRUCTED, BUT THE TRUCK STILL SEEMED TO RUN LOW ON OIL. FINALLY, THE REASON I'M FILING THIS COMPLAINT-- 2 WKS AGO-THE TRUCK BEGAN "TICKING" AGAIN--EVEN THOUGH IT WASN'T RAINING-THEN MADE A LOUD "POP" NOISE-AND DIED--SMOKE COMING UNDER THE HOOD AND OIL SPURTING OUT FROM UNDER THE TRUCK'S BODY. WE TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC-HE SAID, "THE ENGINE BLOCK HAS A HOLE IN IT FROM A ROD THAT SOMEHOW BROKE LOOSE--THE TRUCK LOOKS AS IF IT'S BEEN LOSING OIL FOR SOME REASON"-THIS PROBLEM WAS FROM NO FAULT OF THE OWNER-I FEEL UPKEEP HAS BEEN DONE ON THIS TRUCK SO IT WASN'T FROM NEGLIGENCE". WE NOW HAVE TO PUT A BRAND NEW ENGINE IN OUR TRUCK AND I HAVE NOTHING TO DRIVE FOR A MONTH! AFTER REVIEWING MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE 2004 DURANGO--AND NOTING THAT MOST, IF NOT ALL OF THEM HAVE SIMILAR DANGEROUS ISSUES WRONG WITH THEIR TRUCK-I FEEL DODGE SHOULD TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS SUV AND RECALL IT--@ LEAST THE ENGINE/OIL PROBLEMS. WHEN SOMEONE DIES IN AN ACCIDENT DUE TO THE ENGINE "LOCKING" UP WHILE DRIVING--DODGE WILL HAVE A SUIT ON THEIR HANDS--AND I WILL BE A PART OF IT!! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 DODGE DURANGO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS STARTED FLASHING AS THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT SHE HAD PROBLEMS STARTING THE VEHICLE BEFORE THE FAILURE OCCURRED THEREFORE, SHE HAD TO JUMP STARTED THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE BATTERY CABLE SHORTED OUT, MELTING THE EGR TUBE DUE TO THE CLUSTER BEING PROGRAM INCORRECTLY. AS A RESULT, THE BATTERY CABLE AND THE EGR TUBE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 04V578000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:BATTERY:CABLES). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 104,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 DODGE DURANGO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE STALLED WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES WITH THE ILLUMINATION OF THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTICS BUT NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND A COMPLAINT WAS FILED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 98,000.
WIFE DROVE 2004 DURANGO WITH 5.7L HEMI TO WORK LAST NIGHT, WHEN STARTED IT TO COME HOME MADE LOUD NOISE. I TRAILERED IT HOME, CALLED MECHANIC TO LOOK AT IT. HE SAID I HAD BROKEN ROD IN ENGINE. OIL&FILTERS CHANGED EVERY 3000 MILES. NO PROBLEMS UNTIL THIS. VERY UPSET DODGE WILL NOT COVER THIS. NEEDS NEW MOTOR!!!!!!!! ONLY 123,000 MILES. *TR
