ON THURSDAY DECEMBER 30, 2010 I WENT TO START MY VEHICLE AND THERE WAS A TICKING NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE. GOT IT TO MY MECHANICS AND AS WE WERE PUTTING IT ON THE LIFT THERE WAS A BIG BANG AND THEN THE TICKING BECAME MORE OF A HAMMERING NOISE. WE REMOVED THE MOTOR ON THURSDAY JANUARY 6, 2011 TO FIND THAT THE #7 CYLINDER CONNECTING ROD HAD BROKE AND GONE THROUGH THE SIDE OF THE ENGINE BLOCK. THROUGH SOME USER FORUMS ON THE INTERNET I FOUND THAT THERE HAVE BEEN MULTIPLE INSTANCES OF THIS HAPPENING USUALLY BETWEEN 90 - 100,000 MILES. MY VEHICLE HAD APPROXIMATELY 98,000 MILES ON IT. ORDERED A NEW MOTOR ON FRIDAY JANUARY 7,2011. I AM JUST GLAD THAT THIS DID NOT HAPPEN WHILE I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE AT 65 MPH DURING MY NORMAL DAILY ROUTINE. *LN
I HAVE A 2004 DODGE DURANGO SLT HEMI (5.7 V8) WITH 71,000 MILES. NO EVENTS LEADING TO FAILURE AS VEHICLE WAS REGULARLY MAINTAINED AND NO WARNING VIA SOUNDS/FEEL/OR LIGHTS OF ANY KIND. THE CONNECTING ROD BROKE THRU THE BOTTOM OF THE ENGINE BLOCK CAUSING 2 SUBSTANTIAL CRACKS AND LEAKAGE OF OIL. ONLY OPTION FOR REPAIR IS A NEW ENGINE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 DODGE DURANGO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE THE ENGINE SOUND WAS SIMILAR TO A "LAWN MOWER". THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENTAL PANEL UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT SHE NEEDED TO REPLACE THE ENGINE DUE A PISTON FRACTURING A BLOCK IN THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 96,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AT 55MPH. LOUD BAG THEN RAPPING SOUND. PULLED TO SIDE OF ROAD WITH ENGINE STILL RUNNING, SHUT OFF, DETERMINE LARGE PUDDLE OF OIL UNDER PASSENGER SIDE OF CAR. TOWED TO GARAGE. OIL LEAKED THROUGH CRACKED BLOCK DUE TO BROKEN CONNECTING ROD. ALL MAINTENANCE DONE PER MANUFACTURES SPECS. REPLACING ENGINE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 DODGE DURANGO. WHILE THE CONTACT HAD HIS FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL READY TO SHIFT INTO PARK, THE THROTTLE STUCK AND CRASHED INTO A SHED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 65,300.
2004 DODGE DURANGO WITH 5.7 HEMI ENGINE WAS PURCHASED IN 2007. IN JULY AND AUGUST OF 2010 I EXPERIENCED SEVERAL OCCASIONS OF STALLING AND HESITATION, MANY TIMES WHILE TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS OF 65 MILES PER HOUR AS WELL AS 30 MILES PER HOUR IN LOCAL TRAFFIC. VEHICLE HAS STALLED WITH NO POWER IN TRAFFIC. SEVERAL TIMES THIS HAS OCCURRED DURING RAINING AND SUNNY CONDITIONS. VARIOUS TIMES CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS COME ON AND VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE AND KEEP FOR DAYS. CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP CHARGED FOR SENSOR REPLACEMENTS AND COMPLETE TUNE-UP OF PLUGS WIRES, ADJUSTMENTS, ETC. THIS ALL HAPPENED IN THE SUMMER OF 2010. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN ALLOW TO SIT IN OUR DRIVEWAY FOR SEVERAL WEEKS TO CUT DOWN ON DRIVING IT DUE TO THE PERFORMANCE ISSUES AND TRIPS TO THE DEALERSHIP. ON NOVEMBER 25, 2010, THANKSGIVING DAY, I WHEN OUT TO START THE VEHICLE AND A LOUD THUMPING NOISE CAME FROM THE ENGINE WITHOUT ANY PREVIOUS WARNING OF THIS TYPE OF PROBLEM. MY NEIGHBOR TOLD ME THAT IT SOUNDS LIKE A BLOWN PISTON OR ROD IN THE ENGINE. I HAVE THEN FOUND MANY SIMILAR INCIDENTS AND COMPLAINTS ON THE WEBSITE DESCRIBING THIS SAME DANGEROUS AND DEFECTIVE VEHICLE AND ENGINE AS MINE. SOMEONE WILL BE SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED IF CHRYSLER IS NOT FORCED TO REPLACE OR REPAIR THESE DEFECTIVE ENGINES. IF THIS WERE TOYOTA, YOU WOULD HAVE NO PROBLEM TAKING ACTION AGAINST THE MANUFACTURER. YOU MUST DO THE SAME THING AGAINST CHRYSLER WHO HAS GIVEN THE PUBLIC A BAD AND DEFECTIVE PRODUCT WITH AN EXTREMELY HIGH COST TO REPAIR AND SHOULD NOT BE SHIFTED TO THE CONSUMER WHILE THE COMPANY IS PROVIDED THE ABILITY AND PROTECTION TO IGNORE THEIR RESPONSIBILITY. PLEASE DO YOUR JOB AS THE AMERICAN PUBLIC DEPENDS ON YOU FOR JUSTICE AND RECOMPENSE ON PRODUCTS THAT ARE INFERIOR AND UNSAFE. PLEASE TAKE ACTION FOR RECALL AND REPLACEMENT AND/OR REPAIR OF ALL 2004 AND LATER 5.7 HEMI ENGINES RIGHT AWAY. THERE ARE MORE THAN SUFFICIENT CASES AND REPORTS AS I FOUND OUT THAT I AM NOT ALONE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 DODGE DURANGO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PISTONS ON THE VEHICLE HAVE STARTED TO DISINTEGRATE. THE FAILURE CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO STUTTER AND THEN STALL. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE DEALER PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WHICH INDICATED THAT THE NUMBER SIX CYLINDER MISFIRED. THE DEALERSHIP TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A REGIONAL TEST SITE, DISMANTLED THE ENGINE AND FOUND THAT THE NUMBER SIX CYLINDER WAS DISINTEGRATED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE ENGINE HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 92,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 92,600.
I HAVE A 2004 DODGE DURANGO THAT I HAVE ONLY HAD FOR 2 MONTHS WELL WE HAD BEEN DRIVING THROUGH A BAD RAIN ON THE HIGHWAY DOIN 55 AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CAR STARTED TO SPUTTER AND SHAKE I WENT FROM 55 MILES A HOUR TO 10 IN 30 FEET AND ALMOST GOT CREAMED BY A TRACTOR TRAILER WITH MY KIDS IN THE CAR NO LESS, WELL I HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALER THE SAID IT WAS DO TO THE RAIN AND TOLD ME IT WOULD BE 600 DOLLARS TO FIX BECAUSE IT WAS GENERAL MAT. NOT COVERED IN OUR WARRANTY. SO HERE ME AND MY WIFE AND KIDS GO OUT IN THE STORM. PRETTY SUCKY FOR A DEALER TO DO. SO WE MADE IT HOME I GOT ON LINE THERE ARE NUMEROUS SITES ABOUT THIS PROBLEM SO I CALL DODGE THEY SAY I'M THE ONLY ONE THAT HAS CALLED IN ON THIS PROBLEM YEAH RIGHT. WHAT HAPPENS IS THE COIL PACKS AND WIRES GET WET AND ARCH AND CAUSES A MISS FIRE I CANT EVEN WASH MY CAR THAT'S HOW BAD IT IS. ME AND THE OTHER OWNERS WANT TO KNOW WHY IT HASN'T BEEN A RECALL???OR DOES SOMEONE HAVE TO DIE FIRST. THIS IS A MAJOR PROBLEM AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED THANKYOU. *TR
2004 DODGE DURANGO W/5.7 HEMI ENGINE. PISTON WENT THROUGH THE ENGINE WHEN THE CAR WAS STARTED. I HAD BOUGHT THE CAR WITH OVER 60K MILES AND I PUT LESS THAN 20K ON IT FROM THE TIME I PURCHASED UNTIL THE TIME THE ENGINE WENT. THE CAR WAS 15K SO WE STILL HAVE A CAR NOTE ON IT. I HAVE NO VEHICLE TO DRIVE BUT STILL MAKING PAYMENTS. MY HUSBAND IS OUT OF WORK AND WE DON'T HAVE MONEY TO REPLACE A MALFUNCTIONED ENGINE. THIS IS NOT NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR MAINT. VEHICLE LOOKS NEW AND HAVE HAD ALL REQUIRED MAINT DONE ON A REG. BASIS. *TR
2004 DURANGO ALL MAINTENANCE KEPT UP, CAR WAS RUNNING FINE THEN ONE DAY WENT TO START CAR MADE LOUD KNOCKING NOISE, DEALER SAID BLOWN CYLINDER. *TR
I OWN A 2004 DODGE DURANGO 4.7. THE MILES ARE 117,000. MY WIFE NOTICED A LOUD TICKING SOUND COMING FROM THE ENGINE. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH ONLINE ABOUT THE DURANGO I CAME OPEN ANOTHER OWNER THAT REPORTED IT BEING THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD. I BOUGHT A NEW EXHAUST MANIFOLD GASKET AND WHEN I WENT TO INSTALL IT I NOTICED THAT 6 OF THE BOLTS HAD BEEN BROKEN OFF. ON THE DRIVERS SIDE THE HEAT SHIELD WAS COMPLETELY MISSING. I WENT TO THE DEALER AND PURCHASED A NEW HEAT SHIELD AND REPLACEMENT BOLTS. AFTER I INSTALLED THEM THE TICKING CONTINUED, I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC AND HE TOLD HE WAS SURE IT WAS AN EXHAUST LEAK AND TO GO AHEAD AND REPLACE THE DRIVERS SIDE MANIFOLD. I PURCHASED THE MANIFOLD FROM THE DODGE DEALER AND ONCE I GOT THE OLD ONE OUT I NOTICED THEY DID NOT MATCH. THE FACTORY EXHAUST MANIFOLD THAT CAME WITH THE VEHICLE DID NOT HAVE THE TWO HOLES CLOSEST TO THE REAR OF THE CAR. I BELIEVE BECAUSE OF THIS IT CAUSE EXCESSIVE HEAT CAUSING THE BOLTS TO BREAK OFF. I BELIEVE IT ALSO TO BE A FIRE HAZARD. I HAVE CONTACTED CHRYSLER I HAVE NOT HEARD BACK YET. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 DODGE DURANGO. WHILE DRIVING DURING INCLEMENT WEATHER, THE VEHICLE HESITATED TO DRIVE ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS WITHOUT WARNING. ALSO, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START OCCASIONALLY. THE CONTACT WAS A MECHANIC AND DIAGNOSED THAT WATER SEEPED INTO THE MOTOR AND CAUSED THE MOTOR TO FAIL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 96,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 DODGE DURANGO WITH HANKOOK DYNAPRO TIRES, LINE SIZE: 265/65/R17 110S, DOT NUMBER: T75X JAN4607. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ALL FOUR TIRES WERE EXHIBITING BUBBLES ON THE SIDE WALLS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS DANGEROUS TO DRIVE WITH THE TIRES IN SUCH CONDITION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 89,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 90,000. KMJ
PURCHASED MY HEMI DODGE DURANGO 2004, WITH APPROX. 90,000 MILES ON IT. ONLY 20,000 MILES INTO THE PURCHASE, TURNING FROM A COMPLETE STOP ACCELERATING INTO A 40 MPH. LANE AT APPROX. 25-35 MPH, (CLUNK) AFTER HEARING A LOUD THUMP, CAR WOULD NOT MOVE. TOWED TO EXPERIENCED MAINTENANCE, CONTACTED MY LOCAL CHRYSLER MAINTENANCE DEPT., ONLY OPTION TO RESOLVE MY MATTER WAS TO REPLACE MY NOW DEAD 110,000 MILE ENGINE WITH A RE BUILT ENGINE AT A PURCHASE PRICE OF $2,500/APPROX.70,000 MILES. APPROX. 15,000 MILES AND ONLY LOCAL DRIVING (3 MILES TOPS/PER DAY), I AM EXPERIENCEING FAULTS WHICH LEAD ME TO BELIEVE, I WILL EXPERIENCE THIS UNFORTUNATE PROBLEM AGAIN. VEHICLE ALSO, TURNS OFF IN HEAVY RAIN, AIR BAGS ALERTS ARE FAULTY, STEREO EQIPMENT FAULTY, ELECTICAL SEATING FAULTY. PLEASE ADVISE. *TR
2004 DODGE DURANGO SLT 5.7 LITRE. 85K MIKLES AFTER DRIVING ON HIGHWAY FOR AT LEAST 2-3 HOURS, CHECK ENGINE AND ELECTRONIC THROTLLE CONTROL WARNING LIGHTS COME ONE. HAPPENS EVERYTIME ON THE HIGHWAY AFTER 2-3 HOURS. TURN OFF CAR, WAIT 2 MINUTES, AND IT STARTS UP AND ONLY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYS ON UNTIL IT RECYCLES. NOW, THE OIL LIGHT COMES ON AND THE CAR SHUTS OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. AFTER WAITING 2 OR 3 MINUTES AND STARTING, TI IS FINE. MECHANIC SAYS DODGE NEEDS TO REPLACE ECM / ECU. I SEE A LOT OF ISSUE WITH THIS CAR STALLING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. THIS IS A DANGEROUS ISSUE THAT CHRYSLER NEEDS TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR. *TR
I HAVE A 2004 DODGE DURANGO WITH A BLOWN ENGINE. MY 5.7 HEMI HAS APPROXIMATELY 96,000 MILES ON IT. MY VEHICLE'S ENGINE HAS BEEN PROPERLY MAINTAINED FOR THE FOUR YEARS I'VE OWNED IT. I'VE KEPT THE OIL CHANGED EVERY 3,000 MILES, HAVE RUN ONLY HIGH OCTANE FUEL IN IT, AND PUT LESS THAN 10,000 MILES A YEAR ON IT. MY 17 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WAS ALLOWED TO DRIVE IT TO HER DENTAL APPOINTMENT WHICH IS THIRTY MILES FROM OUR HOMETOWN. HOWEVER, SHE WAS NOT ABLE TO GET OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY. SHE CALLED AND TOLD ME THE ENGINE WAS "BANGING," AND I DON'T MEAN SLANG FOR AWESOME. SO, SHE TOOK HER OLD MAXIMA WITH OVER 200,000 MILES TO HER DENTAL APPOINTMENT, AND WHEN I GOT HOME, I FOUND OUT WHAT SHE WAS TALKING ABOUT. THE ENGINE HAS THROWN A ROD. I CALLED CHRYSLER TO ASK IF THERE IS A RECALL ON THE VEHICLE SINCE I RESEARCHED MY PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND THAT MY ENGINE FAILURE IS NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT. I UNDERSTAND COMPLETELY THAT I HAVE NO WARRANTY ON THE VEHICLE, BUT AT SUCH A LOW AMOUNT OF MILES, I ASSUMED THAT DODGE HAD REALIZED THAT THEY HAVE AN OBVIOUS MECHANICAL OR ENGINEERING DEFECT THAT NEEDS TO BE CORRECTED. UNFORTUNATELY, CHRYSLER DOES NOT AGREE. AFTER TALKING TO SEVERAL AGENTS AT CHRYSLER, I WAS ASSIGNED A CASE MANAGER WHO HAD COME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT I WAS ON MY OWN, BUT THEY WANTED TO OFFER ME FOUR COMPLIMENTARY OIL CHANGES! I DID NOT MAKE THAT UP. FOUR OIL CHANGES FOR MY BLOWN ENGINE. I'VE BABIED THIS VEHICLE; MOST OF THE MILES ON MY DURANGO HAVE BEEN HIGHWAY MILES. I'VE ONLY HAULED A TRAILER A HANDFUL OF TIMES. THIS VEHICLE SHOULD NOT BE WORN OUT. I STILL HAVE TWO YEARS TO PAY ON IT. AS A POOR SCHOOL TEACHER WHO RELIED ON THIS VEHICLE FOR TRANSPORTING HIS FAMILY SAFELY, I AM SEVERELY DISAPPOINTED WITH CHRYSLER'S CHOICE TO IGNORE SO MANY PEOPLE WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS VERY SAME PROBLEM OF COUNTING ON CHRYSLER TO PROTECT OUR FAMILIES WITH A RELIABLE VEHICLE BUILT TO SAFELY CARRY OUR FAMILIES IN TRAFFIC AND THROUGH ALL TYPES OF WEATHER. *TR
ANY AND ALL TIMES THE BATTERY CABLES ARE REMOVED FROM THE BATTERY FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE ON A 2004 DODGE DURANGO, THE AIRBAG LIGHT ILLUMINATES AFTER RECONNECTION OF THE BATTERY. THE AIRBAG SYSTEM BECOMES INOPERATIVE AND MUST BE RECALIBRATED BY A DEALER AT A COST IN EXCESS OF $100. *TR
THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE DODGE HEMI 5.7L ENGINE*** I HAVE MAINTAINED MY 2004 DODGE DURANGO IMMACULATELY, MECHANICALLY AND PHYSICALLY. I PURCHASED MY DURANGO IN 2006 FROM A DEALER WITH 36K MILES ON IT. IN 2010 WITH 155,000 MILES ON IT, THE PUSH ROD BROKE WHEN I WAS ON MY WAS TO THE OFFICE. THE TRUCK WAS SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY FROM THE NIGHT BEFORE AND WHEN I WENT TO START THE ENGINE, IT MADE A LOUD POPPING NOISE AND ENGINE SHUTDOWN. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A SHOP WHERE IT WAS CONFIRMED THE PUSH ROD HAD BROKEN, OIL CHANGED ON REGULAR BASIS, ETC.. I HAD THE ENGINE REPLACED IN NOV 2010 WITH ANOTHER DODGE HEMI 5.7 L HEMI ENGINE. OVER 3 YEARS LATER GUESS WHAT????????? THE REPLACED DODGE HEMI ENGINE BLEW ON ME IN THE SAME DRIVEWAY 3 YEARS LATER DECEMBER 5, 2013. I AM POSTING THIS NOTE TO OTHER OWNERS TO STEER CLEAR OF REPLACING THE ENGINE AS IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN, IT IS NOT A MATTER OF IF, BUT WHEN. AS OF DECEMBER 2013 MY DODGE HAS BEEN SITTING AT THE SHOP I HAD IT TOWED TO AND I REFUSE TO BUY ANOTHER ENGINE. ONE CONSISTENT ISSUE WHICH I HAVE READ FROM THE OTHER COMPLAINTS IS THAT THE ENGINE WOULD HARD IDLE (ACT LIKE IT WOULD STALL) DURING HEAVY RAIN STORMS. I AM PISSED BECAUSE I HAVE A EXCELLENT CONDITIONED VEHICLE APPEARANCE AND MECHANICALLY I AM OUT OF A VEHICLE. FORTUNATELY/UNFORTUNATELY THE VEHICLE IS PAID FOR. I AM GOING TO LODGE ANOTHER COMPLAINT WITH THE NHTSA. IT IS UNBELIEVABLE SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE THE EXACT SAME ISSUE WITH THIS ENGINE. HOW CAN WE GET CHRSYLER/DODGE TO OWN THIS PROBLEM AND MAKE IT'S OWNERS OF ITS DODGE DURANGO'S WHOLE FOR FIXING THIS RECURRING PROBLEM. I AM A PERFECT EXAMPLE OF REPLACING THE ENGINE IN THIS VEHICLE ONCE, AND 3 YEARS LATER THE EXACT ISSUE HAS OCCURRED AGAIN!!!!!!!!! *TR
I PULLED OUT OF MY APARTMENT AND BEGAN TO ACCELERATE UP AN INCLINE. I HEARD A LOUD THUMP, ALL OF THE LIGHTS ON THE DASH FLASHED AND THE CAR DIED RIGHT THERE APPROXIMATELY 60 YARDS FROM MY DOOR. AFTER HAVING IT TOWED ALL OVER THE PLACE, I WAS INFORMED THAT MY ENGINE HAD SEIZED. I WAS VERY CONFUSED BECAUSE I AM ALWAYS ADAMANT ABOUT MAINTAINING THE VEHICLE AND ALL OF THE REGULAR WORK HAD BEEN DONE. DODGE WOULD DO NOTHING BECAUSE THE VEHICLE'S WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. BECAUSE I STILL OWED MONEY, I WAS FORCED TO PAY OVER $6,000 GETTING A REPLACEMENT ENGINE. SEPARATE INCIDENT 08/17/2013 STARTED VEHICLE AFTER WORK. GOT TO WORK FINE WITH NO INDICATIONS OF TROUBLE, ENGINE WAS SHAKING VIOLENTLY, THICK SMOKE SPUTTERING FROM TAIL PIPE. READING ENGINE CODES SAYING FUEL INJECTOR OPEN. SPENT 200 GETTING INJECTION SYSTEM CHECKED WITH NO SUCCESS. MECHANIC SAYING THAT THE COMPUTER SYSTEM IS BAD IN THE VEHICLE WHICH IS LIKELY TO COST UPWARDS OF $1000 FROM DODGE. BOTTOM LINE, THIS PRODUCT IS A COMPLETE DISGRACE, AND I FEEL LIKE THE THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE AFFECTED BY THIS TERRIBLE PRODUCT SHOULD BE COMPENSATED. I HAVE ALMOST HAD TO PAY FOR THIS CAR ALL OVER AGAIN WITH THE TIME AND MONEY I HAVE HAD TO INVEST IN REPAIRS. *TR

I OWN A 2004 DODGE DURANGO SLT 5.7 HEMI, UNDER HEAVY RAIN, ENGINES STARTS TO MISFIRE. IT HAS BEEN OVER 2YRS WITH THIS ISSUE. THIS HAPPENS ONLY UNDER HEAVY RAIN. DRIVING VEHICLE AT HIGHWAYS SPEED (50 MPH) IT SUFFERED A CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE RESULTING IN A HOLE IN THE SIDE OF THE ENGINE BLOCK. ROD FAILURE. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE ON 8/27/2010. ON 9/4/2010 WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 70MPH, THE CAR MADE A JERKING MOVEMENT THEN STALLED. I LOOKED OUT OF THE REARVIEW MIRROR, AND THERE WAS SMOKE COMING FROM THE EXHAUST. I WAS UNABLE TO STOP DUE TO THE POWER BRAKES GOING OUT AND ROLLED INTO A DITCH. TWO WEEKS LATER THE DEALERSHIP STATED THAT THE ENGINE WAS OVERHEATED AND STALLED. THERE WAS NO INDICATION WHILE DRIVING THE CAR AFTER ONE WEEK OF PURCHASE THAT THE ENGINE WAS OVERHEATED. THE CAR DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO PAY FOR ANY REPAIRS STATING THAT IT WAS DUE TO MY NEGLECT. THE CAR DEALERSHIP REPAIRED THE ENGINE THROUGH THEIR OWN MECHANICS AND I WAS FORCED TO PAY $4200 FOR A USED ENGINE. I EXPLAINED TO THE DEALERSHIP, WHILE DOING SOME RESEARCH THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE DODGE 5.7: HEMI ENGINE AND THAT MANY FORMAL COMPLAINTS WERE MADE. I HAVE A 2004 DODGE DURANGO W/ A 5.7 HEMI. DROVE THIS VEHICLE BACK AND FORTH TO WORK EVERYDAY WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS. I LOVED THIS SUV! IT WAS BY FAR THE NICEST VEHICLE I HAVE EVER OWNED. FRIENDS JOKED THAT I BABIED IT MORE THAN I DID MY CHILDREN. I TOOK VERY GOOD CARE OF THIS VEHICLE MECHANICALLY AND COSMETICALLY. BEING AN EX-MECHANIC, I AM VERY AWARE OF THE NECESSITY OF REGULAR MAINTENANCE. I PARKED THE VEHICLE FRIDAY NIGHT AND ALL DAY SAT. WIFE WENT TO GO DO THE GROCERY SHOPPING SUN MORNING AND CLAIMED THAT THE ENGINE TURNED OVER A LITTLE AND THEN THERE WAS A THUNK NOISE AND WOULDN'T RESTART. I WENT OUT AND TRIED TO START THE DURANGO. ON THE THIRD TRY, THE ENGINE STARTED. THERE WAS A LOUD CLICKING NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE. IT SOUNDED LIKE THE BENDIX WAS STUCK ON THE STARTER. I TRIED TAPPING ON THE STARTER TO DISENGAGE IT TO NO AVAIL. I REPLACED THE STARTER WITH A NEW ONE AND GOT THE SAME SOUND. I CALLED A LOCAL MECHANIC ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND HE CAME TO MY HOUSE TO HEAR THE PROBLEM. WHEN WE STARTED THE ENGINE, THE NOISE WAS NOTICEABLY LOUDER. AFTER AN HOUR OF CRAWLING AROUND UNDER THE VEHICLE IT APPEARED TO BE AN INTERNAL ENGINE PROBLEM. ON FURTHER INSPECTION WE FOUND A SMALL CRACK ON THE DRIVERS SIDE OF THE BLOCK. I CAN NOT AFFORD TO HAVE THE ENGINE REPLACED EVEN THOUGH I AM STILL MAKING PAYMENTS, INSURANCE, AND TAGS. AFTER ALL THE OTHER RESEARCH I HAVE DONE AND THE HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE I HAVE FOUND WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM, I JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY CHRYSLER HASN'T RELEASED A RECALL. I WAS VERY LUCKY THAT THIS DIDN'T HAPPEN WHILE TRAVELING DOWN THE HIGHWAY. THE DURANGO HAS APPROX. 95,000 MILES ON IT. THIS TYPE OF FAILURE SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING THIS EARLY TO THIS AMOUNT OF ANY VEHICLE. UPDATED 08/23/11 *TR
THE RH SIDE OF THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD CONTINUOUSLY HAS AN EXHAUST LEAK!
VEHICLE ENGINE STARTED KNOCKING, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER AND SHUT OFF. TOOK TO A MECHANIC AND DIAGNOSED IT AS A CAMSHAFT FAILURE. THE CAR DOES NOT START. *TR
SUV WOULD STALL WHILE DRIVING THEN START BACK UP. HEARD A TICKING NOISE WHEN TURNED KEY OVER, THEN HEARD A LOUD NOISE AND LOUDER TICKING THEN ENGINE GAVE OUT. LOOKED UNDER SUV AND THERE WAS OIL AND PIECES OF THE METAL ON THE GROUND. TOWED IT TO A SHOP AND WAS TOLD ENGINE FAILED DUE TO INTERNAL ENGINE FAILURE MOST LIKELY DUE TO PISTON. MECHANIC SHOWED ME A HOLE IN THE ENGINE BLOCK. 2004 DODGE DURANGO WITH APPRX. 86,000 MILES. ALSO TOLD THAT WHATEVER HAPPENED WITH THE ENGINE DESTROYED THE STARTER AS WELL. REPLACED BOTH THE ENGINE AND THE STARTER. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 DODGE DURANGO. WHILE TRAVELING AT SPEEDS OF 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL WITHOUT WARNING. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CAM AND CRANK SENSORS WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THERE WERE NO REPAIRS MADE TO THE VEHICLE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 49,800 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 49700. UPDATED 05/18/2010. *LJ

THE VEHICLE RESTARTED WITHIN A FEW MINUTES; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT STATED THE FAILURE OCCURRED WHENEVER IT RAINED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND WAS ADVISED THAT THE WIPER COWL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED BUT PROVIDED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 92,000.
