TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 DODGE DURANGO. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR RECALL 07V092000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: INSTRUMENT PANEL). THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP FOR THE REPAIR BUT UPON ARRIVAL, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE PART NEEDED TO BE ORDERED; SHE WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE HOME. WHILE DRIVING HOME, THE CONTACT NOTICED SMOKE EMITTING FROM THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY CAUGHT FIRE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE; A REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED AND THE INSURANCE COMPANY PLANNED TO INVESTIGATE. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO ALSO STATED THAT THEY WOULD INVESTIGATE THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 107,154.
2004 DODGE DURANGO 4X4 W/5.7 HEMI ENGINE. CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE: ALL SERVICE PERFORMED AS PER MANUFACTURERS SPECIFICATIONS AT AN AUTHORIZED DODGE DEALER. TURNED THE IGNITION TO START THE TRUCK AND HEARD A LOUD NOISE. AFTERWARD, THE IGNITION WOULD NOT TURN OVER AND THE VEHICLE MADE A TICKING SOUND. HAD THE TRUCK TOWED TO THE DEALER THINKING IT MAY BE A FAILED BATTERY. AFTER REPLACING THE BATTERY (THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN ALSO SUSPECTED A BATTERY) THE CAR FAILED TO HOLD A CHARGE. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION ON THE RACK THE MECHANIC IDENTIFIED A SIGNIFICANT HOLE IN THE ENGINE BLOCK AND A SIGNIFICANT CRACK IN THE TRANSMISSION TO ENGINE INTERFACE. THE MECHANIC DEDUCED THAT AS AN ENGINE COMPONENT BLEW, THE FORCE OF WHICH SHORTED THE BATTERY, THE STARTER AND CRACKED THE TRANSMISSION INTERFACE. AFTER REMOVING THE BATTERY, THE TERMINAL TO THE NEGATIVE GROUND WAS DISLODGED, THE BATTERY WAS BULGING AT THE SIDES, AND THE ENGINE IS DEAD. CHRYSLER MOTOR COMPANY SAYS THEY HAVE NO PRIOR KNOWLEDGE OF ANY PROBLEMS WITH HEMI ENGINES, AND GIVEN THE CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY..SORRY NOTHING THEY CAN DO. THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT EXISTS AND IS DOCUMENTED ON NHTSA AND OTHER PUBLIC FORUMS. THE OPTION PRESENTED BY CHRYSLER IS $5500 PLUS LABOR FOR A RE-MANUFACTURED ENGINE. ESTIMATED LABOR IS $1900. THE DEALER DOESN'T GET MUCH OF A BREAK FROM CHRYSLER FOR THIS ENGINE, BUT GETS ALL THE HASSLE FOR THE SHODDY WORK THE COMPANY SELLS. THIS IS A HEAVY DUTY TRUCK, AN ENGINE SHOULD NOT DIE AT 125,000 MILES. *TR
I OWN A 2004 DODGE DURANGO THAT HAS A SAFETY RECALL ON IT IN 2007-2008 FOR A POTENTIAL FIRE IN THE CLUSTER PANEL. I EXPERIENCED A PROBLEM WITH THE INTERIOR LIGHTS AND HATCH LIGHT NOT GOING AND BROUGHT IT TO A DODGE DEALER TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT. THE SERVICE MGR TOLD ME THAT IT WAS THE CLUSTER PANEL (WHICH WAS THE RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE) THAT HAD TO BE DONE AGAIN. NOW CHRYSLER NO LONGER HAS THE PART AND DUE THE POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD THE VEHICLE CAN NOT BE DRIVEN (ALL STATED IN THE EARLIER G07 SAFETY RECALL. I HAVE PUT 10 PHONE CALLS INTO THE DODGE CUST SERVICE LINE AND HAVE HEARD NO RESPONSE FROM THEM. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU CAN BE OF ANY HELP OR PERHAPS DIRECT ME TO SOMEONE WHO CAN. I HAVE 2 SMALL CHILDREN AND THIS IS MY ONLY MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION. THANK YOU *TR
MY 2004 DODGE DURANGO (5.7 L) SHUT OFF WHILE MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING IT. WE WERE MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN INTO A PARKING LOT AND THE TRUCK SHUT OFF. HE BARELY MISSED HITTING ANOTHER CAR BECAUSE THE STEERING AND THE BRAKES WENT OUT. IT TOOK 4 TRIES TO GET THE TRUCK STARTED BACK UP. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME 2 OTHERS TIMES WHEN I WAS SITTING AT A RED LIGHT, THANKFULLY I WAS NOT DRIVING. THE TRUCK ALSO STALLS OUT EVERYTIME THERE IS A HEAVY RAIN. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS NOT COME ON SO EVERY DEALERSHIP I'VE SPOKEN TO SAYS THAT THERE IS NOTHING THAT CAN BE DONE ABOUT IT, BUT THEY ARE AWARE THERE IS A PROBLEM. I USE THIS TRUCK TO DRIVE MY CHILDREN EVERYWHERE AND I DO NOT UNDERSTAND HOW THIS PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN ADDRESSED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 DODGE DURANGO. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO ACCELERATE AND SPUN AROUND IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION WHEN THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE VEHICLE ALSO MADE A NOISE WHICH CAME FROM THE TIRE AREA AND WAS DIFFICULT AT TIMES TO SHIFT INTO GEAR AND THE GEARS LOCKED UP. THE CONTACT TURNED THE VEHICLE AROUND AND DROVE HOME. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO STATED THE LOWER BALL JOINTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 84,780.
2004 DODGE DURANGO 5.7 STALLING AT LOW SPEEDS AT INTERSECTIONS. STARTS UP RIGHT AWAY BUT CAUSES A SAFETY HAZARD WHEN STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD WITH TRAFFIC COMING. HAPPENED 1 TIME ABOUT A MONTH AFTER I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN 2007. HAS HAPPENED 4 TIMES IN THE LAST MONTH. *TR
WHILE DRIVING 2004 DODGE DURANGO HEMI, HESITATES, HAS DIED A COUPLE OF TIMES. CAN'T STEER WHEN DIES. I HAVE BEEN READING ABOUT DODGE DURANGOS. THERE HAS BEEN THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS OF THESE COMPLAINTS AND NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE ABOUT IT. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION, ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU CAN'T CONTROL THE VEHICLE WHEN IT DIES, WHILE DRIVING. WE HAVE NOT DONE ANYTHING TO CORRECT THE SITUATION, BECAUSE NO CODE COMES UP TO TELL US WHAT IS WRONG. *TR
WHEN DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS IT STALLS. I AM ABLE TO RESTART IT BUT IT IS NOT ALWAYS EASY TO TELL WHEN IT HAS STALLED, BECAUSE ALL ELECTRICAL THINGS STILL WORK RADIO, LIGHTS, ETC. STEERING WHEEL DOES LOCK THOUGH AND IT TAKES ALMOST A MINUTE TO GET IT INTO NEUTRAL AND START IT AGAIN. ALSO WHILE DRIVING AS YOU PRESS THE GAS PEDAL IT ACTS AS THOUGH IT IS GOING TO DIE AND THEN LUNGES FORWARD. I HAVE NOT YET CORRECTED EITHER OF THESE ISSUES. *TR
AFTER HAVING BOUGHT THE CAR USED FROM A DEALER I WORKED FOR CHECKING TO SEE THAT WAS ONE OWNER AND SERVICE RECORDS WERE ON FILE WITH ANOTHER LOCAL DEALER. VEHICLE HAD BEEN PROPERLY SERVICED AND WAS CONTINUED TO BE SERVICED THRU A DODGE DEALER AT 98,564 MILES WITH NO WARNING AT ALL THE MOTOR THREW A ROD THRU THE SIDE OF THE BLOCK. REPLACEMENT WAS MADE COSTING US $7000, NONE OF WHICH CHRYSLER WOULD TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR. NOW 2 YEARS LATER WE ARE APPROACHING 82000 MILES ON THE 2ND MOTOR AGAIN MAINTINANCED PROPERLY AND I'M EXPERIENCING THAT I CAN BE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE OR ANYWHERE AND IT WILL JUST DIE. I HAVE 4 KIDS THIS IS OUR MAIN TRANSPORTATION AND IT IS VERY DANGEROUS AS THERE IS NO STEERING OR BRAKES WHEN THIS HAPPENS. PLEASE HOLD CHRYSLER ACCOUNTABLE FOR THESE PROBLEMS AS YOUR SIGHT REFLECTS OVER 650 COMPLAINTS FOR THE SAME THINGS ON THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE!! HAVE HAD ONGOING PROBLEM WITH THE ENGINE CUTTING OUT FOR LAST 18 MONTHS. REPLACED PLUGS AND WIRES. PROBLEM STILL PERSISTS. USUALLY OCCURS WHILE NOT GIVING GAS. OCCURRED ONCE WILL TURNING INTO A PARKING LOT. POWER STEERING WENT OUT AND VEHICLE MANEUVERED INTO ONCOMING LANE RIGHT OF WAY. NO COLLISION OCCURRED. *TR
I DO NOT KNOW WHAT HAPPENED THIS FEELS LIKE THIS DREAM. ONE DAY MY TRUCK IS RUNNING GREAT AND THEN BAM OIL EVERY WHERE. ONE DAY I STARTED MY TRUCK UP AFTER ABOUT TWO WEEKS OF LETTING IT SIT IN THE DRIVE WAY AND IT HAD A TICKING NOISE SO I IMMEDIATELY TURNED IT OFF. I CALLED A MECHANIC HE CHECKED IT AND SAID IT WAS A STICKY LIFTER.I THEN CALLED DODGE TO GET PROFESSIONAL ADVICE BECAUSE MY MECHANIC IS NOT A CERTIFIED DODGE MECHANIC. A SERVICE ADVISER AT DODGE DEALERSHIP ON RT 112 IN MEDFORD AND HE TOLD ME THAT IF THE PROBLEM STARTED WHILE THE TRUCK WAS SITTING, TO JUST START THE TRUCK AND LET IT RUN FOR A WHILE. SO I DID AND MAYBE FIVE MINUTES OF IT BEING ON AND TICKING I HEARD A NOISE AND SAW OIL ON THE GROUND. NOW WHAT DO I DO.........I HAVE A HOLE IN THE ENGINE BLOCK AND A FULLY PAID PIECE OF JUNK. I HAVE RECORDS OF ALL MY REGULAR OIL CHANGES THIS TRUCK WAS MY BABY I TOOK GREAT CARE OF IT, I LOVED IT AND ITS DEAD. I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS TRUCK AND THIS PROBLEM WHEN WILL DODGE OWN UP TO ITS RESPONSIBILITY AND RECALL THE 5.7 MOTOR .IT BREAKS MY HEART EVERY MORNING WALKING BY MY 2004 DODGE DURANGO TO START UP MY OLD BEAT UP 97 NISSAN PATHFINDER WITH 246K ITS SAD TO SAY THAT THIS RUSTED OLD PIECE OF JUNK GIVES ME NO PROBLEMS WITH ITS MOTOR OR TRANSMISSION, BUT MY NEW TRUCK CRAPPED OUT AT 116,000 CARS NOT ARE SUPPOSE TO DIE AFTER 100K ESPECIALLY HEAVY DUTY TRUCKS. I NEVER EVEN GOT THE OPPORTUNITY TO CARRY A LOAD OR TOW SOMETHING. DODGE MADE IT SEEM LIKE THIS WAS SOMETHING THAT WAS SUPPOSE TO HAPPEN BECAUSE THE TRUCK HAS 100K...THAT MAKES NO SENSE TO ME AND I WISH I WOULD HAVE DONE MORE RESEARCH ON THIS TRUCK. BUT RIGHT NOW I JUST PRAY THAT DODGE HELPS ME OUT WITH THIS PROBLEM. THIS IS MY FAMILY VEHICLE THAT I INVESTED HARD EARNED CASH INTO AND NOW IT IS JUST SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY ROTTING AWAY. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 DODGE DURANGO. WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE STALLED AS IF IT WAS LOSING POWER BUT AS THE VEHICLE CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP IT WOULD CUT OFF. SHE WAS ABLE TO RESTART IT IMMEDIATELY. THE THROTTLE SENSOR WARNING LIGHT ALSO ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER. A LOCAL MECHANIC CALLED THE DEALER AND ADVISED THEM OF THE FAILURE AND WHAT NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THEY WERE UNABLE TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALSO CALLED AND CONFIRMED THAT THERE WERE NO WARRANTIES OR RECALLS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 78,000. UPDATED 11/16/10. *LJ
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 DODGE DURANGO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WATER PENETRATED THE ENGINE NUMEROUS TIMES CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO STALL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC THAT LOCATED THE FAILURE AT THE WINDSHIELD COWSCREEN. THE MANUFACTURER DENIED ASSISTANCE WITH THE REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 150,000.
MY 2004 DODGE DURANGO STALLS FREQUENTLY...ALMOST DAILY. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AFTER THE FIRST INCIDENT AND THE TECHNICIANS WERE STUMPED AND SEEMED UNAWARE OF THE ISSUE, WHICH I HAVE SINCE LEARNED IS NOT UNCOMMON. THE STALLS FREQUENTLY OCCUR AT PARKING LOT SPEEDS, BUT HAVE OCCURRED WHILE DOING 50 KM/HR AND WHILE UNDER POWER. THE HIGHER SPEED STALLS ARE A CONCERN AS THE STALL ALSO KILLS POWER BRAKING AND STEERING. TO RESTART THE VEHICLE, YOU HAVE TO PUT IT IN N AND TURN IGNITION. SO FAR, THAT HAS WORKED EACH TIME, BUT AT SPEED THIS CAN BE A LITTLE UNNERVING TO SAY THE LEAST. DODGE STATED THAT A EEC FLASH WAS AVAILABLE, BUT THAT IT DID NOT ADDRESS STALLING, ONLY SHIFTING ISSUES AND THEREFORE IT WAS NOT REQUIRED. DODGE HAS SO FAR INDICATED THERE IS NOTHING THAT CAN BE DONE. I AM DATING THE INFORMATION BELOW WITH THE MOST RECENT INCIDENT BECAUSE IT WAS THE FIRST TIME IT HAS OCCURRED AT HIGHER SPEED, BUT IT HAS BEEN STALLING WITHOUT WARNING AT LEAST ONCE A DAY FOR THE LAST 2 WEEKS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 DODGE DURANGO. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, ANOTHER DRIVER TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH CRASHED HEAD ON INTO THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE. THE DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG DEPLOYED, BUT IT WAS ALREADY DEFLATED. THE DRIVERS OF BOTH VEHICLES DIED AND A PASSENGER IN THE SECOND VEHICLE SUSTAINED HIP AND ARM INJURIES. MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS RECEIVED AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. AFTER THE CRASH OCCURRED, THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 154313000 (AIR BAGS); HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE UNKNOWN.
MY 2004 DODGE DURANGO HAS STALLED ON ME 6 TIMES NOW WITHOUT 'ANY WARNING', IT SIMPLY SHUTS OFF AND I HAVE NO CONTROL OVER THE VEHICLE. THE FIRST TWO TIMES IT HAPPENED, WE DISMISSED AS SOME WEIRD 'FLUKE', AS THE TWO TIMES WERE ABOUT A YEAR APART, SO WE NEVER THOUGHT MUCH ABOUT IT. WHEN IT HAPPENED FOR THE THIRD TIME WE REALIZED SOMETHING WAS MOST DEFINITELY WRONG. WE WERE SHOCKED TO SEE HOW MANY PEOPLE WERE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM, WHEN WE BEGAN TO RESEARCH THE PROBLEM ON LINE. RIGHT AFTER IT HAPPENED THE 3RD TIME, WE TOOK IT IN TO OUR LOCAL MECHANIC; WHO INDICATED THAT IT MIGHT BE PART OF A FAULTY CLUSTER PROBLEM THAT HAD BEEN RECALLED. THEY REPLACED THE CLUSTER, AND I FELT SO MUCH BETTER AND SAFER. APPROXIMATELY 4 MONTHS LATER, IT HAPPENED AGAIN! I SENT AN EMAIL TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT OF THE DEALERSHIP TO TELL THEM WHAT I EXPERIENCED, AFTER SEVERAL UNANSWERED EMAILS AND 4 MONTHS LATER, I DECIDED THAT I NEEDED TO GO IN PERSON. JUST THIS WEEKEND, BEFORE I WENT; IT HAPPENED AGAIN AS I WAS ENTERING THE FREEWAY. I AM SCARED TO DEATH TO DRIVE THIS DURANGO ANYWHERE BUT ON THE SIDE STREETS NOW. I HAD A CHILD IN MY CAR WHEN THIS OCCURRED THIS PAST WEEKEND, AND THEY WERE VERY SCARED. EACH TIME IT HAS OCCURRED HAS BEEN AT A SLOW RATE OF SPEED AND ALWAYS MAKING A RIGHT TURN. IT IS EXTREMELY FRIGHTENING TO LOSE COMPLETE CONTROL OF YOUR VEHICLE, AND IT IS ONLY MATTER OF TIME BEFORE SOMEONE IS GOING TO DIE OR CAUSE A HORRIBLE ACCIDENT WHEN THIS SHUT DOWN OCCURS. WHY IS CHRYSLER/DODGE NOT BEING MADE TO ADDRESS THIS PROBLEM? I WAS SHOCKED TO SEE STILL MORE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM, THE MOST RECENT WAS JUNE 12, 2012 HOWEVER THESE CONCERNS ARE DATING BACK TO 2005! WHAT NEEDS TO HAPPEN BEFORE THIS SITUATION CAN BE ADDRESSED AND DEALT WITH APPROPRIATELY. THIS IS NOT A SMALL PROBLEM, THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH POTENTIALLY LIFE THREATENING CONSEQUENCES, AND NO ONE IS DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 DODGE DURANGO, AND A 2009 EVENFLO CHILD RESTRAINT SEAT, MODEL NUMBER CA37538CN. HE HAS DIFFICULTY SECURING THE CHILD PROPERLY IN THE "CONVERTIBLE" CHILD RESTRAINT SEAT. THE HARNESS STRAPS FAIL TO EXTEND LONG ENOUGH TO BECOME LOCKED INTO THE BUCKLE. THE CHILD RESTRAINT SEAT WAS INSTALLED USING THE VEHICLE SAFETY BELT SYSTEM. THE RESTRAINT SEAT WAS REPLACED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 68,300.
VEHICLE UPON EXITING INTERSTATE BLEW THE ENGINE. STEERING AND BRAKING FUNCTIONS WERE DISABLED. 4,000LB SUV REMAINED UNCONTROLLABLE UNTIL IT CAREENED INTO AN EMBANKMENT. SOMEONE HAS TO DO SOMETHING. THERE ARE COUNTLESS PEOPLE WITH THIS SAME ISSUE OF ENGINE FAILURE WITH THE SAME ENGINE. IS THERE NOTHING THAT CAN BE DONE? UPON STARTING THE CAR ON 11/20/2009 THE ENGINE SUDDENLY WITHOUT ANY PRIOR WARNING BROKE A ROD AND PUNCHED TWO HOLES IN MY OIL PAN. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS ON THE INTERNET AND CONTACTING DODGE THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE 2004 MODEL THAT WAS FIXED ON THE 2005 MODEL. CHRYSLER REFUSES TO REPAIR ANY DEFECTIVE ENGINES THAT ARE OUT OF WARRANTY EVEN THOUGHT THEY ADMIT TO THE ENGINE HAVING A PROBLEM. *TR
MY VEHICLE IS A 2004 DURANGO LIMITED AND I HAVE PROBLEMS WITH MY REMOTE TRANSMITTER THAT LOCKS/UNLOCKS THE DOORS AND SETS THE ALARM. THE REMOTE WORKS FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME THEN I HAVE TO OPEN IT UP AND ADJUST THE BRACKETS THAT HOLD THE BATTERY AS IF IT'S LOOSE AND I WANT TO ENSURE CONTACT. WITHIN ONE YEAR OF PURCHASING THE VEHICLE, ENGINE CLUSTER LIGHTS STARTED COMING ON. AIR BAG WARNING, ABS, TRACTION CONTROL, CHECK ENGINE AND BRAKE WARNING LIGHTS AS WELL AS THE SPEEDOMETER FAILING TO WORK. WE HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE IN OVER 12 TIMES IN THE PAST 5 YEARS FOR THIS RECURRING PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE IS NOW OUT OF WARRANTY BUT THE PROBLEM IS STILL HAPPENING. I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY A NON CHRYSLER MECHANIC THAT THE HARNESS THAT GOES TO THE ABS MODULE HAS A CONNECTOR NEAR THE WHEEL WELL. THE DEALERSHIP HAS TRIED ON MANY OCCASIONS TO SEAL THIS CONNECTOR. I UNDERSTAND LATER MODELS HAVE A CORRECTED HARNESS. THE MECHANIC TOLD ME THE CONNECTOR WAS REPAIRED PREVIOUSLY BY SPLICING THE WIRES OF THE HARNESS NEAR THE CONNECTOR. THIS WAS NOT A FACTORY AUTHORIZED REPAIR. THE CONNECTOR AND THE ABS MODULE ARE ONCE AGAIN FRIED AND MELTED. THE VEHICLE HAS NEVER HAD ABS, TRACTION CONTROL OR AIR BAGS WORKING FOR MORE THAN A MONTH AFTER EACH REPAIR ATTEMPT. I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE IN NOV/DEC 2007 FROM DODGE REGARDING A RECALL ON MY 2004 DODGE DURANGO. I IMMEDIATELY MADE AN APPOINTMENT UPON RECEIVING THE NOTICE AND HAD IT REPAIRED ON JAN.2, 2008. THE RECALL WAS FOR A WIRING CLUSTER BEHIND THE INSTRUMENT PANEL , IT WOULD MALFUNCTION RESULTING IN A FIRE. RECENTLY WHILE ON A CAMPING TRIP WITH MY CHILDREN, BROTHER AND SISTER IN LAW AND MY SISTER AND HER FAMILY THE CAR CAUGHT FIRE. IT HAD BEEN PARKED SINCE APPROXIMATELY 5:00 THE DAY BEFORE. WE WOKE UP ON SUNDAY MORNING AND WERE STANDING AROUND THE CAMPFIRE AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE HORN ON MY CAR BEEPED. I IMMEDIATELY CHECKED TO MAKE SURE ALL THE KIDS WERE ACCOUNTED FOR AND THEY WERE. MY 12 YEAR OLD SON RAN DOWN AND YELLED BACK THE CAR WAS ON FIRE. I LOOKED DOWN AND SAW FLAMES SHOOTING FORM THE WINDSHIELD AND THE TOP OF THE CAR. CAME OUT AND SAID THEY BELIEVED THE FIRE STARTED BEHIND THE INSTRUMENT PANEL IN THE DASH. I FILED A REPORT WITH MY INSURANCE AND THE ADJUSTER LOOKED AT THE CAR AND TOTALED AND CONCURRED WITH WHAT THE FIRE DEPT. HAD SAID. I FILED A CLAIM WITH CHRYSLER AND THEIR RESPONSE TO ME WAS THAT "YOUR CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY,WE'RE SORRY BUT WE CAN'T HELP YOU". I AM HIGHLY UPSET ABOUT THIS. IF I HAD BEEN DRIVING THIS CAR WHEN THE PROBLEM OCCURRED NOT ONLY WOULD I HAVE NOT MADE IT OUT BUT MY FOUR CHILDREN(TWO OF WHOM ARE IN CAR SEATS) WOULD HAVE MET CERTAIN DEATH. I HAVE HAD THE CAM POSITION SENSOR FAIL APPROX. 5 TIMES. WHEN THE SENSOR FAILS OR STARTS TO FAIL THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WILL COME ON INTERMITTENTLY AND OCCASIONALLY WHILE THE LIGHT IS ON THE ENGINE WILL SHUT OFF WHEN THE ENGINE SHUTS OFF THE BRAKES WILL NOT WORK. I BOUGHT MY 2004 DODGE DURANGO IN 2005 JANUARY WITH 666 MILES ON THE TRUCK. THE FIRST YEAR I HAD NO PROBLEMS AT ALL UNTIL ABOUT MARCH 2006 I WAS DRIVING FROM WASHINGTON STATE TO CALIFORNIA WHEN I NOTICE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND HAD IT CUT OFF IN CALIFORNIA. WELL, ON MY WAY BACK TO WASHINGTON STATE AFTER A WEEK I NOTICE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME BACK ON I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR. THE DEALERSHIP CUT OFF THE LIGHT AND TOLD ME THERE WAS A RECALL OUT ON THE 2004 DODGE DURANGO TO FIX THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. SO I TOOK THE 2004 DODGE DURANGO BACK IN TO FIX THE RECALL PROBLEM AND THEY SAID IT WAS FIXED. WELL, IN THE SUMMER OF 2006 I WAS DRIVING MY 2004 DODGE DURANGO WHEN THE LIGHTS STARTS TO GO OFF AND ON WHILE I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY. IT WAS RAINING HARD AND THEN MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AGAIN, SO I JUST LEFT THE LIGHT ON. NOW I'M DRIVING AROUND IN MY 2004 DODGE DURANGO IN THE RAIN WHEN I GO TO PUT GAS IN IT WHEN I STOP. ALL OF A SUDDEN ALL MY INTERIOR LIGHTS STARTS TO GO ON AND OFF WITH MY HEADLIGHTS GOING OFF AND ON. THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS DID NOT WORK SO I CUT THE VEHICLE OFF FOR A MINUTE. WHEN I TURN ON THE VEHICLE I COULD NOT MOVE IT OUT OF PARK AND ALL THE LIGHTS WAS ON. SO, I LEFT THE VEHICLE THERE IN A PARKING SPOT AND WALK BACK TO WORK. I LATER CAME BACK TO THE VEHICLE ABOUT 2 HOURS LATER AND I STARTED UP THE VEHICLE AND THE GEAR SHIFT WORKED. SO I DROVE BACK TO MY OFFICE AND USE THE COMPUTER TO SEE IF ANYONE ELSE WAS HAVING THESE TYPES OF PROBLEMS AND WHAT DO YOU KNOW I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP LIKE I WAS TOLD BY HEADQUARTERS AND THEY GAVE ME SOME PAPERWORK TO GO TO ME LOCAL DODGE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP MADE ME PAY FOR A DIAGNOSTIC ON MY VEHICLE AND SAID IT WAS FROM WATER INTRUSION IN THE JUNCTION BLOCK AND MY WARRANT DOES NOT COVER IT. HEADQUARTERS TOLD ME TO OPEN A BLOG AND TRY TO GET A RECALL STARTED. BUT IN THE MEAN TIME CALL YOUR INSURANCE COMPANY. LIVES ARE AT STAKE. *TR

THE CONTACT MUST PULL THE VEHICLE OVER AND WAIT FOR IT TO COOL DOWN. IF THE DOORS ON THE VEHICLE ARE OPENED FOR MORE THAN FIVE MINUTES, THE VEHICLE WILL NOT START. IN ORDER FOR IT TO RESTART, THE VEHICLE MUST BE JUMPED WITH JUMPER CABLES. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT YET BEEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THROUGH ONLINE RESEARCH, THE CONTACT FOUND NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 07V092000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: INSTRUMENT PANEL). THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE RECALL DID NOT APPLY TO HER VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 DODGE DURANGO. WHILE TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WHENEVER THE ENGINE WAS OPERATING AT RELATIVELY WARM TEMPERATURES. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS FOR IDENTICAL FAILURES, BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO LOCATE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR INSPECTION AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE INNER TIE RODS FAILED. THE ENTIRE TIE ROD SYSTEM REQUIRED REPLACEMENT. THE AUTHORIZED DEALER STATED THAT THE PART FOR THE REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE DUE TO A MASSIVE BACK ORDER. THE REPAIR PART HAS BEEN MODIFIED SIX TIMES. THE VEHICLE IS NOT BEING DRIVEN DUE TO THE SAFETY HAZARD. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 73,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 76,000.
THE OUTBOARD POSITION SEATBELT SYSTEMS IN THE MIDDLE SEAT HAS THE PLASTIC LATCH COVER MISSING. THE METAL OF THE LATCH IS THE ONLY REMAINING PART OF BOTH OUTBOARD LATCHES. THIS WAS NOTICED WHEN I WENT TO INSTALL A CHILD RESTRAINT IN THE VEHICLE. I HAVE SPOKEN TO OTHER OWNERS WHO HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 DODGE DURANGO. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE ENGINE WAS REPLACED. A YEAR AFTER THE FAILURE OCCURRED, THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 50 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED OR REPAIRED WHEN THE COMPLAINT WAS FILED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 61,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 73,000. MY TRUCK ALL OF A SUDDEN STOP WORKING WITH NO WARNING. IT ONLY HAS 119,000 MILES ON IT AND IT WONT START. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF ITS APART OF THE RECALL. *TR
WHEN I FILL THE VEHICLE WITH GAS THE GAS STARTS SPITTING OUT AT THE END OF FILLING RESULTING IN A LARGE AMOUNT OF GAS POURING DOWN THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. *TR
THE VEHICLE STALLS WITHOUT WARNING IN DIFFERENT DRIVING CONDITIONS. IT HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES AND IT SEEMS TO BE GETTING WORSE. IN TWO CASES, ACCIDENTS WERE CLOSE TO OCCURRING IF IT WERE NOT FOR THE OTHER VEHICLE'S ABILITY TO STOP OR SWERVE AROUND. THE POWER STEERING IN THE VEHICLE STOPS, WHICH IS THE FIRST INDICATION THAT THE VEHICLE HAS STALLED. THERE IS NO POWER AND THE VEHICLE SHUTS OFF. THE VEHICLE TURNS ON AGAIN WITH NO PROBLEMS AND WE ARE ABLE TO PROCEED WITHOUT PROBLEMS UNTIL IT HAPPENS AGAIN. IT USUALLY DOESN'T HAPPEN WITHIN THE SAME TRIP, AT LEAST IT HASN'T HAPPENED YET. *TR

AFTER FURTHER INSPECTION, IT WAS CONCLUDED THAT THE BLOWER MOTOR WAS THE POSSIBLE CAUSE OF THE FIRE. THE INSURANCE COMPANY IS IN THE PROCESS OF INVESTIGATING THE FAILURE.
