I JUST ENTERED A SHOPPING PLAZA DRIVING APROX 10 MILES PER HOUR AND THE 2004 DODGE DURANGO'S TIE ROD, SPINDLE AND BALL JOINT BROKE OFF. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH, THE PASSENGER SIDE TIRE DETACHED FROM THE LOWER PART OF THE SUSPENSION. THE TIE ROD AND SPINDLE BOTH FRACTURED. THIS CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO IMMEDIATELY FALL TO THE RIGHT, AND THE STEERING WHEEL TO SPIN BACK, WHICH INJURED THE LEFT HAND OF THE CONTACT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A SERVICE DEALER, WHO DETERMINED THAT THE FRONT RIGHT LOWER BALL JOINT HAD SEPARATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALSO NOTIFIED. UPDATED 01/26/07. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE BRAKE ROTORS NEEDED TO BE RESURFACED. THE ROTORS HAD ALREADY BEEN RESURFACED TWICE AT 17000 MILES AND THE CONTACT EXPRESSED CONCERN THAT THE BRAKE ROTORS WERE DEFECTIVE. THE ROTORS WOULD PULSATE. UPDATED 01/10/07. *JB UPDATED 01/10/07. *JB
ON SEVERAL INSTANCES BEGINNING APPROXIMATELY NOVEMBER OF 2006 THE INTERIOR LIGHTS WOULD EITHER STAY ON, OR NOT COME ON AT ALL. SOMETIMES, UPON ENTERING THE CAR, WE WOULD HAVE TO WAIT TWENTY MINUTES OR MORE TO GET THE LIGHTS TO GO OUT. A FEW INSTANCES, THE LIGHTS WOULD NEVER GO OUT AND RAN THE BATTERY DOWN. EVENTUALLY, NO LIGHTS AT ALL WOULD COME ON AND AT ONE POINT YOU COULD SMELL SOMETHING BURNING, BUT NEVER SEE IT. WHEN APPROACHING THE JEFF WYLER DODGE, AND HAVING OUR CAR SERVICED TODAY (ON 3-14-07), THEY HAD US PAY FOR A DIAGNOSTICS AND STATED THAT THE INSTRUMENTAL CLUSTER (SP?) NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND THE COST WAS CLOSE TO $500.00. DUE TO THE PRICE OF THE PART, WE DECIDED NOT TO HAVE THEM REPLACE IT RIGHT AWAY. TONIGHT, WHILE READING THE NEWS, I CAME UPON AN ARTICLE ON WLWT.COM AND FOUND THAT IF YOU ARE HAVING AN INTERIOR LIGHT PROBLEM (LIGHTS NOT DIMMING THE WAY THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO), TO TAKE YOUR CAR TO THE DEALER. I AM VERY UPSET THAT SOMEHOW THE RECALL IS IN THE NEWS, HOWEVER A DODGE DEALERSHIP MENTIONS NOTHING TO US ABOUT IT? I WILL BE CONTACTING THE DEALER AGAIN IN THE MORNING TO DISCUSS. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 DODGE DURANGO. WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED AND THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT PARKED AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. PRESENTLY, NO OTHER FAILURES HAVE OCCURRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 42,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 39,000.
MY TRUCK HAS STALLED SEVERAL TIMES, AND AT ONE POINT WOULD NOT EVEN START, THE DEALER SAID IT IS A DIRTY THROTTLE BODY CAUSING THIS, BUT I DO NOT THINK THEY EVEN REALLY LOOKED INTO IT, ESPECIALLY AFTER READING OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME PROBLRM! *NM
(1) I GOT INTO MY 2004 DODGE DURANGO SLT AND BEGAN DRIVING. I NOTICED THAT THE INTERIOR LIGHTS WERE ON. I ATTEMPTED TO TURN THEM OFF BUT THEY WOULD NOT GO OUT WITH THE OVERHEAD SWITCH. I READ THE MANUAL THAT STATED LIGHTS WOULD GO OUT AFTER 8 MINUTES IF THERE WAS NO KEY IN THE IGNITION (2) WHEN I ARRIVED HOME I GOT OUT OF THE CAR AND WENT INSIDE MY HOME. A FEW HOURS LATER I WENT BACK OUT TO THE CAR.WHEN I OPENED THE DOOR A VAPOR CLOUD BILLOWED OUT AND A VERY STRONG ODOR OF BURNED ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS WAS IN THE DRIVING COMPARTMENT. WHEN I STARTED THE CAR I NOTICED A NUMBER OF NON-WORKING COMPONENTS INCLUDING. 1 - ALL GUAGES (NEEDLES NON RESPONSIVE TO ACTUAL RUNNING CONDITIONS) 2 - ODOMETER AND GEAR SELECTOR (DIGITAL READOUTS NOT WORKING) 3 - INTERIOR LIGHTS 4 - BACKLIGHTING FOR TERMPERATURE CONTROLS AND VARIOUS OTHER CONTROLS (3) THIS WOCCURED JUST OVER A MONTH AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE USED. I HAVE YET BEEN ABLE TO AFFORD TO FIX THE PROBLEM, AND THE DODGE CETIFIED DEALERS REFUSE TO GIVE ME ANY KIND OF QUOTE ON THE APPROXIMATE COST TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. I WILL UPDATE THIS WHEN I FINALLY GET THIS FIXED.
WHILE TRAVELING WE RETURNED TO THE HOTEL FROM DINNER APPROX. 9:10 PM LOCAL TIME. AT 11:15 PM WE WERE CONTACTED BY THE FRONT DESK INFORMING US OUR VEHICLE WAS ON FIRE. GOING OUT TO THE DURANGO A POLICE OFFICER WAS EXTINGUISHING A FIRE INSIDE THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED AND FINISHED PUTTING OUT THE FIRE. THE FIRE CHIEF AND VISUAL EVIDENCE CLEARLY INDICATED THE FIRE STARTED IN THE AREA OF THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. THE FIRE DESTROYED THE PANEL AND CENTER CONSOLE, BROKE OUT THE WINDSHIELD AND SET OFF THE DRIVERS SIDE AIRBAG, AND MELTED THE INTERIOR TRIM AND HEADLINER AS FAR BACK AS THE REAR SEAT. THE VEHICLE IS LIKELY A TOTAL LOSS. THIS APPEARS TO BE THE ISSUE COVERED BY DAIMLER CHRYSLER RECALL C43 BUT NO NOTICE OF THE RECALL HAS EVER BEEN RECEIVED. THE VEHICLE WAS BOUGHT USED FROM A DODGE DEALER IN SUMMER 2005 AND HAS BEEN IN THE DEALER FOR SERVICE AT LEAST ONCE. *JB
INSTRUMENT PANEL FLASHING, APPEARING TO SHORT OUT CAUSED BATTERY TO DIE. SIMILAR ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS INCLUDE INSTRUMENT PANEL SHUTTING OFF DURING DRIVING AND A/C NOT WORKING. *JB
2004 DODGE DURANGO, THE INTERIOR LIGHTS STAYED ON. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE TWO WEEKS PRIOR. I WAS INSTRUCTED BY A DEALER TO PULL THE FUSE FOR THE LIGHTS (NOT MARKED). PULLED FUSE OUT AND SPARKS AND SMOKE CAME FROM UNDER THE DASH (BEHIND THE GAUGES). A FIRE BROKE OUT AND DESTROYED THE VEHICLE. WHEN I CHECKED, THOUGHT THE YES WAS MARKED ON THE FIRST PAGE - RESUBMITTING. *JB

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE STALLED WHILE IN GEAR. THIS HAD OCCURRED TWELVE TIMES AND MOST FREQUENTLY HAPPENED WHILE IN REVERSE. THIS HAD ALSO HAPPENED WHILE TRAVELING 45 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE SERVICE DEALER FOUR TIMES BUT THE SERVICE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE.*AK
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS, WHEN THE KEY WAS INSERTED INTO THE IGNITION AND THE KEY WAS TURNED, SMOKE CAME FROM THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. ON BOTH OCCASIONS THE ENGINE WAS NOT STARTED. ON THE SECOND INSTANCE, THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS TURNED OFF AND THE KEY REMOVED. WHEN THE CONTACT RETURNED TO THE VEHICLE, THE FRONT WAS FULL OF BLACK SMOKE, AND FIRE WAS SEEN BEHIND THE STEERING WHEEL. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CONTACTED. THE SERVICE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 75 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY, THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING FOLLOWED BY A LOSS OF ALL VEHICLE POWER. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, THE CONTACT MOVED THE BATTERY CABLES OF THE BATTERY, AND THE ENGINE RESTARTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALERTED.
FIRE UNDER DASH, DRIVER SIDE. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 30 MPH, AND CHANGING FROM A BRAKING SITUATION TO ACCELERATION, THE VEHICLE BUCKED. FOR A FEW SECONDS, THE RADIO SHUT OFF, AND THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT AND OIL WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. DURING THAT TIME, THE CRUISE CONTROL ALSO DISENGAGED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN IN FOR SERVICE.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE IN THE DRIVEWAY WITHOUT WARNING. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE AND A REPORT WAS FILED. THE DEALER DETERMINED THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE WAS THE WIRING HARNESS.
I HAVE A DODGE DURANGO 2004. WHEN IT RAINS OR I DRIVE OVER A WET PAVEMENT THE POWER STEERING BELT GETS WET AND THE STEERING WHEEL IS HARD TO TURN, CAUSING THE DRIVERTO LOOSE CONTROL. THE DEALER CHEKED IT AND TOLD ME NOT TO DRIVE ON RAINY DAYS (BASICALLY). *JB
2004 DODGE DURANGO WITH HEMI (5.7 L) HAS STALLED ON FIVE OCCASIONS. ALL INSTANCES HAVE OCCURRED AT LOW SPEEDS BEFORE COMING TO A STOP AT AN INTERSECTION OR EXITING A PARKING LOT. THE PCM MODULE WAS FLASHED UPDATED PER TSB 18-013-05A AND THE PROBLEM HAS OCCUR 3 ADDITIONAL TIMES. *JB
JUNE 23, 2006 MY DAUGHTER BAILEY CHAPMAN WAS PARTICIPATING IN THE 2006 7-11 SOCCER TOURNAMENT AT THE SAGINAW TOWNSHIP SOCCER COMPLEX LOCATED IN SAGINAW TOWNSHIP, MICHIGAN. THE SOCCER COMPLEX IS LOCATED OFF OF MCCARTY ROAD BETWEEN BAY ROAD AND MACKINAW. HER TEAM WAS SCHEDULED TO PLAY AT 7:30PM. WE WERE INSTRUCTED TO BE AT THE COMPLEX FORTY FIVE MINUTES PRIOR TO GAME TIME. WE DEPARTED OUR HOME AT 6:30PM FOR THE 10 MINUTE DRIVE TO THE COMPLEX. WE PARKED IN AN OVERFLOW TOURNAMENT PARKING LOT TO THE EAST OF THE COMPLEX. THE LOT WAS LOCATED OFF OF MCCARTY ROAD BETWEEN CABARET TRAIL W. AND FORTUNE BLVD. WE PULLED OFF MCCARTY ROAD AND PARKED AT APPROX. 6:45PM. AS I TURNED THE VEHICLE IGNITION OFF, MY WIFE AND I NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM UNDERNEATH THE DASH BOARD. IT APPEARED THAT THE SMOKE WAS COMING FROM THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. AT THAT POINT, MY WIFE AND I INSTRUCTED THE TWO OLDER CHILDREN TO EXIT THE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY. MY WIFE ASSISTED OUR 4 YEAR OLD OUT OF HER CAR SEAT. ONCE EVERYONE HAD CLEARED THE VEHICLE, I OPENED THE HOOD OF THE VEHICLE TO CHECK FOR SMOKE IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. I SAW NO SMOKE IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. ALTHOUGH, I DID SEE A SMALL AMOUNT OF SMOKE COMING OUT OF THE VENTS LOCATED NEAR THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS. I THEN PROCEEDED TO THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. AT THIS TIME THE SMOKE WENT FROM A WHITE/GREY COLOR TO BLACK. MY FIRST RESPONSE WAS TO ORDER MY FAMILY TO MOVE AWAY FROM THE VEHICLE. I THEN CALLED 911 AT 6:48PM TO REPORT A POTENTIAL FIRE IN THE VEHICLE. SHORTLY AFTER THE CALL TO 911, A ROUND FLAME SHOT THROUGH THE DASH (BEHIND THE DRIVER INSTRUMENT PANEL) TO THE WINDSHIELD GLASS. AT THIS POINT I INSTRUCTED MY FAMILY TO GET AS FAR AWAY FROM THE VEHICLE AS POSSIBLE. I MADE A SECOND CALL TO 911 TO REPORT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOW ON FIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS ENTIRELY BURNT WITHIN 10-12 MINUTES. *NM
2004 DURANGO. V6 3.7 L ENGINE. AFTER SITTING OVER NIGHT VEHICLE IS HARD TO START AS IF IT IS OUT OF GAS. TURNS OVER FOR A VERY LONG TIME BEFORE STARTING. WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP VEHICLE STALLS, OR SPUTTERS OR HESITATES EVERYTIME. MAKES A SLIGHT PING NOISE WHEN ENGINE EVENTUALLY TAKES OFF. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP THEY SUGGESTED CHANGE PLUGS I DID THAT. SAID I USED WRONG KIND CHANGED TO THERE BRAND. STILL NO DIFFERENCE. THEY CLEANED THROTTLE BODY AND INJECTOR STILL NO CHANGE. NEW DEALER STILL NO IDEA VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN SHOP 7 DAYS NOW. DODGE NO HELP WHAT SO EVER. DEALERSHIP RUDE UNHELPFUL AND DENTED MY HOOD TRYING TO CLOSE. AFRAID PROBLEM WILL GET WORSE OR CAUSE AN ACCIDENT FOR MY WIFE. *NM
1) WHILE TURNING RIGHT ON TO HIGHWAY, POWER STEERING FAILED FOR A FEW SECONDS AND MADE A LOUD NOISE, WHICH ALMOST CAUSED CAR TO GO INTO LANE WITH ON COMING TRAFFIC. NOTHING RESOLVED TO DATE. 2) WHILE MAKING TURNS WE HEAR LOUD POPPING AND CRUNCHING NOISES AND THE STEERING SEEMS TO BE VERY RUFF. IT'S VERY CONCERNING TO US SINCE WE USE THIS VEHICLE TO TRANSPORT OUR LARGE FAMILY OF SEVEN: 2 ADULTS, 5 CHILDREN AGES 4 MONTHS, 2.5 YEARS, 3.5 YEARS, 9 & 16. *JB
MY 2004 DODGE DURANGO CAUGHT FIRE WHILE PARKED IN MY CARPORT OVERNIGHT. THE FIRE STARTED IN THE DASH ON THE DRIVERS SIDE OF THE CAR. I CONTACTED DODGE/ CHRYSLER ABOUT THE PROBLEM. THE ONLY RESPONSE FROM THEM WAS "CLAIM IS DENIED". I WASN'T FILING A CLAIM, I WAS CONTACTING THEM TO SEE WHAT THEY COULD OR WOULD DO AS FAR WHAT HAD TAKEN PLACE BECAUSE OF THE FIRE POSSIBLY DUE TO A DEFECTIVE PART AND OF COURSE SAFETY WAS A CONCERN. CONSIDERING THE CAR CAUGHT FIRE IN THE CARPORT AND COULD HAVE BLOWN UP AND MY HOUSE COULD HAVE BURN DOWN WHILE WE WAS ALL ASLEEP. THANKS. *NM
FINALLY GOT TRUCK BACK FROM BODY SHOP (9 WEEKS) AND SERVICE AFTER A TOTAL OF $13219 IN DAMAGE. ALL CAUSED BY THIS STALLING PROBLEM ON 2004 DODGE DURANGO LIMITED WITH A HEMI. STILL AFTER THE ACCIDENT THEY ARE NOT ABLE TO TELL ME WHY THIS HAPPENED. THE TYPICAL ANSWER IS "SORRY BUT WE CANNOT DUPLICATE THIS PROBLEM AND NO CODES ARE COMING UP". SO TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT, IT HAS HAPPENED AGAIN !!! I HAVE NOT EVEN HAD THE TRUCK BACK FOR 1 MONTH !!! GOT IN THE TRUCK ON SATURDAY AROUND 10:00 AM (5/20) WITH MY WIFE AND 2 CHILDREN AFTER A HAIRCUT. STARTED THE TRUCK, PUT IT REVERSE AND NOTHING. IT STALLED !?!?! TRIED TWICE MORE AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED. FINALLY THE TRUCK STAYED STARTED ON THE FORTH TRY. STARTED DOWN THE ROAD DOING ABOUT 30-35 MPH, COMING UP TO A TRAFFIC LIGHT AND THE TRUCK STALLED. IMAGINE THAT !!! STOPPED AND PUT IN PARK AND STARTED RIGHT BACK UP. GOT BACK TO OUR HOUSE AND CALLED DEALER. HE SAID BRING IT UP. GOT A CALL TODAY (MONDAY 5/22) FROM DEALER AND YOU WILL NEVER GUESS THE ANSWER I GOT. YOUR RIGHT !!! " SORRY BUT WE CANNOT DUPLICATE THIS PROBLEM AND NO CODES ARE COMING UP". NOT SURE WHAT TO DO AT THIS POINT. WE ARE SCARED OF THIS VEHICLE AND WE ARE AFRAID TO DRIVE IT. NO ONE SEEMS TO CARE. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED AS THE DRIVER WAS TURNING INTO A PARKING SPACE AT 5 MPH; THE DRIVER'S FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE WHEN THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN HITTING A TREE. THERE WAS EXTENSIVE DAMAGE DONE TO THE VEHICLE. THIS ALSO OCCURRED ONE OTHER TIME IN JANUARY. THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED AS THE VEHICLE WAS COMING TO A STOP. THE CONTACT PLACED THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN INFORMED.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 DODGE DURANGO. AFTER PERFORMING A RECALL REPAIR, THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS SAFE FOR THE CONTACT TO DRIVE. WHILE TRAVELING TO PENNSYLVANIA AT 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE AND THE CONTACT AND HER FAMILY WERE LOCKED INSIDE THE VEHICLE AS THE FLAMES CONTINUED TO SPREAD. THE VEHICLE IS INCLUDED IN RECALL # 07V092000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: INSTRUMENT PANEL) AND IS ALSO KNOWN AS SAFETY RECALL GO7 REGARDING THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. DAIMLER CHRYSLER STATED THAT SHE NEEDS TO GET A RENTAL CAR AND TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS UNABLE TO HELP. THE CONTACT SPOKE WITH THE CORPORATION FOURTEEN TIMES AND CONTINUALLY CLAIMED THAT THEY COULD NOT HELP. FURTHERMORE, SHE WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE RENTAL CAR THAT WAS SUGGESTED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 37,000.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH OR LESS THE ENGINE STALLED AND LOST POWER WITHOUT WARNING. AFTERWARDS, THE VEHICLE WAS EASILY RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE DEALER PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST THAT PRODUCED NO FAILURES CODES. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE CONTACT CLAIMED THAT VEHICLE SHUT OFF/STALLED OFF 8 TIMES IN 16 MONTHS, AND HAS BEEN AT DEALERSHIP 4 TIMES AND NOTHING HAS BEEN REPLACED OR REPAIRED, AND IT CONTINUED TO SHUT OFF WHILE COMING TO A STOP. THIS WAS A SAFETY PROBLEM. *AK
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED AFTER STARTING THE ENGINE, ALL OF THE INTERIOR LIGHTS ILLUMINATED AND REMAINED ON. AFTERWARDS, THE INTERIOR LIGHTING WENT OUT WITHOUT WARNING AND WOULD NOT RE-ILLUMINATE. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALERSHIP AWAITING INSPECTION. THERE IS A NHTSA RECALL, # 03V528000, REGARDING THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. THE VEHICLE HAS THE SAME PROBLEMS AS INDICATED IN THE RECALL; HOWEVER IT IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO THE VIN. UPDATED 4/11/2006 - *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE'S POWER STEERING FAILED FOR 15 SECONDS WHEN DRIVEN THROUGH A WATER PUDDLE AT 25 MPH. THE SERPENTINE BELT STARTED SQUEALING FOR 10 SECONDS AFTER THE INCIDENT OCCURRED. THE POWER STEERING HAS NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY SINCE THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEN THROUGH THE WATER PUDDLE. THE PROBLEM RECURS EVERY TIME THERE WERE WET ROAD CONDITIONS.

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 15MPH THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE. THERE IS POSSIBLE INTERNAL SMOKE DAMAGE TO THE CONTACT'S LUNGS. WHEN THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE THE POLICE DEPARTMENT FILED A REPORT. THE FIRE STARTED WITH THE INTERNAL LIGHTS AND HEADLIGHTS SWITCH. THE INSURANCE COMPANY DETERMINED THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED AND ARE CURRENTLY INSPECTING THE VEHICLE. PREVIOUSLY, ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR ELECTRICAL ISSUES. THE INTERNAL LIGHTS REMAINED ILLUMINATED, THE ALARM TURNED ON, AND WHILE TOUCHING THE DOOR IT SHOCKED THE CONTACT. THE DEALER REPLACED THE KEYLESS ENTRY, AN ELECTRICAL PART AND A PART IN THE HEATER. THE VEHICLE WAS BEING TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP WHEN THE FIRE OCCURRED.
THE VEHICLE HAS STALLED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, WHILE DRIVING AND WHILE STOPPED. ON TWO OCCASIONS THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESTART FOR AN HOUR OR SO. WHEN THE ENGINE STALLS THE POWER COMPONENTS ASSOCIATED WITH THE SAFE OPERATION OF THE VEHICLE ALSO ARE EFFECTED (IE STEERING, BRAKES, ETC.). THIS HAS LED TO A COUPLE OF NEAR COLLISIONS ON THE FREEWAY AND SURFACE STREETS. THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. I HAVE VOICED MY CONCERNS TO OTHER OWNERS THAT ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUES EVEN AFTER TSB ITEMS HAVE BEEN PERFORMED. THE TRANSMISSION ALSO FAILS TO ENGAGE WHEN SHIFTING FROM PARK INTO DRIVE OR REVERSE GEARS. *JB
WHILE DRIVING ON I-91 SOUTH IN MA (IN THE EVENING, WITH TWO OF MY KIDS AGES 5 & 7) IN MY 2004 DODGE DURANGO SUV THE ENGINE SUDDENLY AND UNEXPECTEDLY CUT OUT - TURNED OFF. THE VEHICLE LOST POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES. THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS WENT DARK. THE HEADLIGHTS REMAINED ON AND THE RADIO CONTINUED TO FUNCTION. THE CAR WAS IN DRIVE AND THE IGNITION KEY WAS IN THE PROPER POSITION - THIS WAS NOT CAUSED THE MY HAVING INADVERTENTLY PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL OR PARK, ETC OR BY THE CAR HAVING BEEN INADVERTENTLY TURNED OFF. THIS WAS A SUDDEN ENGINE SHUT DOWN WHILE TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS ON AN INTERSTATE. FORTUNATELY, I WAS ABLE TO PUT THE FLASHERS ON (THEY WORKED) AND COAST OVER TO THE SHOULDER AND STOP THE VEHICLE. I SHIFTED THE TRANSMISSION FROM DRIVE TO PARK. I TURNED THE KEY TO THE OFF POSITION. I CHECKED THE HEADLIGHTS -- THEY WENT ON AND OFF. I CHECKED THE RADIO IT WENT ON AND OFF. I WAITED A MOMENT TO COLLECT MY THOUGHTS. THEN, I TURNED THE KEY AND THE CAR STARTED RIGHT UP NO PROBLEM. I LET THE ENGINE IDLE FOR A MOMENT AND CHECKED FOR ANY ENGINE WARNING LIGHTS - THERE WERE NONE. I PUT THE VEHICLE IN DRIVE AND PROCEEDED ON THE SHOULDER FOR A SHORT DISTANCE TO SEE IF THE CAR WOULD GO. IT DID. I WAS ABLE TO ENTER BACK ON TO THE INTERSTATE AND RESUME BY TRIP. THE VEHICLE FUNCTIONED PERFECTLY NORMALLY FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE TRIP. I VEHICLE HAS ALSO CONTINUED TO FUNCTION PROPERLY SINCE THEN WITHOUT INCIDENT. THIS ENGINE CUT OUT PROBLEM HAD NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE. I AM CONCERNED, HOWEVER, THAT THE PROBLEM COULD RECUR AT ANY TIME WITHOUT NOTICE. WHILE FORTUNATELY THIS TIME THAT AN ACCIDENT DID NOT OCCUR AND NO ONE WAS INJURED, IT IS ENTIRELY POSSIBLE THAT GIVEN A DIFFERENT SITUATION AND THIS SAME PROBLEM HAPPENED THERE COULD EASILY BE AN ACCIDENT RESULTING IN DEATH AND/OR SERIOUS BODILY INJURY, AS WELL AS PROPERTY DAMAGE. A MECHANIC LOOK AT THE VEHICLE AND DIDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG. *JB

I LEASE A 2004 DODGE DURANGO LIMITED W/ A 5.7 HEMI. THIS VEHICLE STALLED ON SLICK ROAD DOING APPROX, 35-40 MPH. I TRIED TO STOP VEHICLE AND LOST CONTROL. WENT OFF ROAD INTO DITCH AND ROLLED VEHICLE. ALL PASSENGERS IN VEHICLE (4) WERE ALL UNINJURED. THIS VEHICLE HAS DONE THIS SINCE IT HAD 1803 MILES ON IT. THIS TRUCK HAS HAD MULTIPLE PROBLEMS AND HAS BEEN A NIGHTMARE. THIS VEHICLE IS UNSAFE AS I HAVE SAID SINCE FIRST EPISODE OF STALLING. NOW THIS TRUCK HAS APPROX, 21000 MILES ON IT AND THIS PROBLEM RECURRED. WE ARE SCARED TO DRIVE TRUCK. MANU, SAYS NOT TO WORRY" IF THIS HAPPENS, AIRBAGS WILL STILL DEPLOY." ARE YOU SERIOUS !! ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! LETS GET TOGETHER AND MAKE THIS PROBLEM KNOWN. NUMEROUS ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS WITH 2004 DODGE DURANGO. WITHIN IN 3 MONTHS OF PURCHASING VEHICLE, 4 WHEEL DRIVE BEGAN TURNING ITSELF ON WITHOUT WARNING. THIS CAUSED PROBLEMS TURNING. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO BENDERS IN CLOVIS NUMEROUS TIMES BEFORE COMPUTER WAS REPROGRAMMED, SOLVING THE PROBLEM. IN JANUARY, 2006 THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. BENDERS TESTED THE VEHICLE AND SAID THAT THE COMPUTER WASN'T RECEIVING ANY INPUT AND IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. HAD TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE FOR ALMOST A MONTH BEFORE THEY WOULD CHANGE OUT THE COMPUTER. PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE RESOLVED NOW, BUT I FEEL THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE WIRING IN THIS VEHICLE TO CAUSE SO MANY FAILURES. *NM
BOUGHT 2004 3.7L DODGE DURANGO JAN 2004 .WITHIN YEAR, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. TOOK IT TO ARRIGO DODGE, WPBCH, FLORIDA. LEFT IT FOR A FEW DAYS, CALLED TO SAY IT WAS READY. REASON FOR FAILURE - BAD SENSOR. DROVE HOME, LIGHT BACK ON.TOOK IT TO ARRIGO. THEY KEPT IT FOR A WEEK. THEY EXPLAINED THAT THE HARNESS (ELECTRICAL) HAD A SHORT, SO THEY REPLACED IT.GOT IT BACK WITH THE LIGHT ON. THEY TOOK IT BACK INTO THE SHOP FOR ABOUT 5 MINUTES THEN THE SERVICE ADVISOR TOOK IT BACK TO SAY THEY JUST TURNED OFF THE WARNING LIGHT. WITHIN A MONTH MY MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT THERE IS A VIBRATION IN THE MOTOR. BY THE BEGINING OF 2006, THE VIBRATION GOT WORSE. EVENTUALLY THE VEHICLE BROKE DOWN. BY THIS TIME, MY 75000 MILE POWERTRANE WARRANTY HAD RUN OUT. MY MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS SLUDGE STUCK IN THE OIL PUMP SCREEN AND AS SUCH THE OIL WAS NOT CIRCULATING LIKE IT SHOULD.THE NIGHT BEFORE I WAS SUPPOSED TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR DIAGNOSIS, I PARKED IT IN MY NEIGHBORS DRIVEWAY. WOKE UP EARLY,WENT TO THE TRUCK OPENED THE DRIVERSIDE DOOR AND IMMEDIATELY SMELLED / SAW SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER INSTRUMENT PANEL. ALL THE WARNING AND IGNITION LIGHTS WERE ON AND SPEEDOMETER WAS CYCLING BETWEEN ZERO AND 10 MPH. . I DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY, WHICH STOPPED THE BURNING. TOOK IT TO DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY DISCOVERED THAT THE MODULE IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WAS BURNT, AND FOR THE ORIGINAL PROBLEM , THEY FOUND THAT THE MOTOR WAS RUINED. AS A RESULT OF ALL THIS I HAD TO PAY $800+ TO FIX THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER PROBLEM AND MY MECHANIC FOUND A MOTOR TO REPLACE MINE AT AN ADDITIONAL $2500. I'M CONVINCED THE WARNING LIGHT WAS INDICATION THAT SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH THE ENGINE AND HAD THEY NOT TURNED OFF THE WARNING LIGHT, I WOULD HAVE PAID ENOUGH ATTENTION TO THE VEHICLE TO NOT WIND UP WITH A RUINED ENGINE. DEALER TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS RECALL FOR A CAPACITOR IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER BUT THE RECALL WAS DONE ON MY VEHICLE BEFORE I BOUGHT IT. THUS I HAD TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR OUT OF POCKET. *NM
I WAS DRIVING ON THE EXPRESSWAY AND DOME LIGHT CAME ON, AND IT WOULD NOT TURN OFF. ABOUT A MINUTE LATER SMOKE STARTED COMING OUT OF THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND WITHIN SECONDS THE WHOLE DASHBOARD WAS ON FIRE. THE CAR WAS TOTALED. THIS HAPPENED WHILE I WAS DRIVING AND I BARELY MADE IT OUT W/O GETTING BURNT. *AK

FIRST, WHILE IN REVERSE PULLING OUT OF A PARKING PLACE, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED ACROSS THE PARKING LOT. SECOND, WHILE LEAVING A PARKING LOT, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED FORWARD HITTING ANOTHER VEHICLE ENTERING THE PARKING LOT. THE DEALERSHIP COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. AT APPROXIMATELY 11 PM OUR DAUGHTER WAS GETTING READY FOR BED WHEN SHE HEARD THE CAR ALARM GOING OFF OUTSIDE. AS SHE WALKED OUT ONTO THE DECK SHE SAW THAT OUR 2004 DODGE DURANGO WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES. SHE IMMEDIATELY WENT INSIDE AND CALLED 911. OUR LOCAL VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT RESPONDING IN ABOUT 10 MINUTES AFTER THEY WERE PAGED OUT, BUT IT LOOKS TO BE A TOTAL LOSS. THE ENTIRE INSIDE OF OUR VEHICLE IS BURNT. THE FIRE APPEARS TO HAVE STARTED IN THE DASHBOARD AREA. I AM THE TYPE OF PERSON WHO WILL TAKE HER VEHICLE IN FOR EVERY OIL CHANGE AND HAVE ASKED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS WHEN DOING SO, IF THERE WERE ANY RECALLS FOR THIS VEHICLE. THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT THE RECALLS WERE ALREADY TAKE CARE OF. WHAT AM I SUPPOSE TO BELIEVE NOW. THIS VEHICLE WAS PARKED NOT EVEN 10 FEET FROM OUR HOME, WHAT IF SHE HAD GONE TO BED AND DIDN'T HEAR THE ALARM? WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF I LOST MY CHILDREN AND MY HOME. AT APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED (SHUT DOWN) AND I LOST ALL POWER STEERING. I MOVED TO SIDE OF ROAD, BUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE. *NM
THE INTERIOR LIGHT CONTINUED TO STAY ON, AND PART OF THE DASH WOULD NOT LIGHT UP. AFTER CHECKING EVERYTHING, IT WAS DETERMINED THE WHOLE ELECTRICAL PANEL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY. IT'S ONLY BEEN A FEW WEEKS SINCE REPLACEMENT. THE BRAKES ARE/ HAVE BEEN SCREECHING AND WAS TOLD THAT IT IS THE WAY THE PADS ARE MADE, ETC. AND WHEN THE WEATHER IS WET IT IS INCREASED. A 2004 DODGE DURANGO 4 X4 , ON AN INCLINE AFTER A HORSE SHOE CURVE, HAD A FRONT END FAILURE WHICH RESULTED IN THE WHEEL AND BEARING HOUSING COLLAPSING UNDER THE DURANGO. THE VEHICLE DROPPED INTO A HILLSIDE BEFORE GRINDING TO A STOP. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE THROTTLE INTERMITTENTLY STICKS AT HIGHER SPEEDS OF 45-60 MPH DURING COLD WEATHER CAUSING THE ENGINE TO REV AND NOT MOVE FORWARD. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS ILLUMINATED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY ARE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM.

DURING A ROAD TRIP WITH MY 2004 DODGE DURANGO THE SPEEDOMETER CONSTANTLY READ 3 - 4 MPH FASTER THAN GPS AND THE ODOMETER/TRIPOMETER READ 516.5 MILES WHEN PROVEN TO BE ONLY 500 MILES WITH GPS. GPS WAS LINKED TO 9 DIFFERENT SATELLITES THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE TRIP (EXTREMELY ACCURATE). CONTACTED DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT EVERYTHING THAT CONTROLS SPEEDOMETER IS WITHIN ALLOWABLE LIMITS AND NOTHING CAN BE DONE TO FIX. TIRE SIZE MAY FIX THE PROBLEM WITH ODOMETER/TRIPOMETER BUT NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. *NM

THE DEALER REPLACED THE DASHBOARD CLUSTER ON EACH OCCASION. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 109,000.
