TL* TAKATA RECALL. THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 DODGE DURANGO. THE CONTACT RECEIVED SEVERAL NOTIFICATIONS FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V770000 (AIR BAGS). THE PARTS FOR THE REPAIR WOULD NOT BE AVAILABLE FOR SEVERAL MONTHS. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE WHEN THE VEHICLE WOULD BE REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS ALSO INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 15V313000 (AIR BAGS) AND 07V092000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE DEALER DID NOT INFORM THE CONTACT OF THE TWO RECALLS. THE CONTACT WAS WAITING ON INSTRUCTIONS FROM THE MANUFACTURER TO REMEDY THE THREE RECALL REPAIRS. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 DODGE DURANGO. WHILE PARKED THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT CONTAINED THE BLAZE TO THE HOOD AND DASHBOARD AREAS OF THE VEHICLE. THE FIRE WAS EXTINGUISHED, BUT THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. APPROXIMATELY THREE HOURS PRIOR TO THE FIRE, ALL OF THE INTERIOR LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE WAS DIAGNOSED AS ELECTRICAL, AND THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. BOTH A POLICE AND FIRE REPORTS WERE TAKEN, AND THE CONTACT POSSESSED PICTURES OF THE VEHICLE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE 11,000.*AK
CHECK ENGINE AND AIRBAG LIGHT CONTINUALLY KEEPS COMING ON EVEN AFTER IT' HAS BEEN SERVICED. ON 2 APRIL 2007 CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, AND LOST ITS POWER AFTER STOPPING AT A STOP LIGHT. IT WOULD IDLE, BUT WOULD NOT MOVE WHEN THE GAS PEDAL WAS PRESSED. WE HAD TO TURN THE VEHICLE OF AT LEAST TWO OR THREE TIMES BEFORE IT WOULD MOVE WHEN THE GAS WAS DEPRESSED. ADDITIONALLY IMMEDIATELY AFTER THAT YOU COULD TELL THAT THE VEHICLE WAS STRAINING TO DRIVE, AND YOU COULD ALSO HEAR IT WHILE DRIVING AND GOING DOWN THE HIGHWAY, IT KEPT LOSING POWER AS WELL. IT HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP NOW FOR 3 DAYS, AND I STILL CAN'T GET A STRAIGHT ANSWER ON WHAT IT IS THAT'S WRONG WITH VEHICLE. I HAVE READ ABOUT THE INVESTIGATION, BUT THIS DOES ME NO GOOD BECAUSE THE DEALERSHIP IS SAYING THAT THEY HONESTLY DON'T KNOW WHAT IS WRONG WITH MY VEHICLE. I BOUGHT IT BRAND NEW, AND IT HAS NEVER BEEN WRECKED ,AND THESE ARE THE ONLY PROBLEMS THAT I HAVE HAD SINCE I' BOUGHT IT. THERE IS NO WAY I SHOULD BE HAVING THIS KIND OF PROBLEMS AT ONLY A LITTLE OVER 66,000 MILES. WHAT CAN THE MANUFACTURER DO TO HELP WITH MY SITUATION?*AK
AT APPROXIMATELY 2 PM ON MARCH 24, 2007, MY 2004 DODGE DURANGO CAUGHT FIRE IN THE DRIVEWAY AT HOME. WE ARRIVED AT HOME AT APPROXIMATELY 12:00 IN THE AFTERNOON ON SATURDAY AFTER DRIVING THE VEHICLE APPROXIMATELY ONE HOUR (RURAL DRIVING). I WENT INSIDE FOR APPROXIMATELY TWO HOURS AND WHEN I WENT OUTSIDE TO LEAVE, I NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM A WHOLE IN THE WINDSHIELD. THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WAS ON FIRE. I CALLED FOR MY HUSBAND TO COME OUTSIDE AND HE IMMEDIATELY CALL THE LOCAL FIRE DEPARTMENT. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED WITHIN A FEW MINUTES AND EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS A TOTAL LOSS (PURSE, TWO CAR SEATS, CLOTHES, UMBRELLAS, CDS, ETC.) I HAVE NOT RECEIVED AN OFFICIAL RECALL NOTICE FROM DAIMLER CHRYSLER CORPORATION. AFTER SEARCHING ONLINE AFTER THIS INCIDENT, I FOUND A LETTER FROM THE US DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION REGARDING ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: INSTRUMENT PANEL RECALL. THE LETTER STATED THAT RECALL NOTICES WILL BE SENT IN APRIL 2007. AFTER FIVE DAYS, OUR INSURANCE COMPANY (STATE FARM) WILL NOT COVER THE PAYOFF AMOUNT DUE ON THE VEHICLE. DAIMLER CHRYSLER CORPORATION HAS NOT ACCEPTED ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS INSTRUMENT PANEL FIRE. THEREFORE, WE ARE LEFT WITHOUT A VEHICLE, $2,700 LOAN BALANCE AND LOSS OF PERSONAL BELONGING. *JB

TL*- THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 DODGE DURANGO WITH A CURRENT MILEAGE OF 46,000 MILES. THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE HD THE SAME PROBLEMS AS MENTIONED IN RECALL 07V092000 CONCERNING THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, AND WAS TOLD THAT THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO THE VIN, AND THAT HE WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS. *AK
TL*- THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE 2004 DODGE DURANGO WITH 38,000 FAILURE MILEAGE CAUGHT ON FIRE WHILE PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY. THE CONTACT THOUGHT THAT THERE WAS A SHORT IN THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. THERE WAS RECALL 07V092000 THAT WAS ESTABLISHED ON MARCH 2,2006. THE VEHICLE WILL BE TOWED TODAY. *AK THE CONSUMER PROVIDED A REPORT FROM THE FIRE DEPARTMENT. UPDATED 05/21/07 *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 DODGE DURANGO. THE INNER COMPARTMENT OF THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO BURN AND THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS REMEDIED IN JULY OF 2006 DUE TO RECALL # 04V578000. THE PREVIOUS OWNERS HAD THE VEHICLE REMEDIED BY THE MANUFACTURER DUE TO RECALL # 03V528000. THE MANUFACTURER REFUSED TO DISCLOSE THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE 50,000.*AK
TL* - THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 DODGE DURANGO. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND THE DOOR WAS OPENED, BUT THE INTERIOR LIGHTS DID NOT TURN OFF ONCE THE DOOR WAS CLOSED. THE IGNITION HAD BEEN TURNED OFF AND TURNED BACK ON, BUT THE INTERIOR LIGHTS DID NOT TURN OFF. THE BATTERY WAS DISCONNECTED. THE NEXT DAY THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED AND THE INTERIOR LIGHTS STAYED ON. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO STATED THAT THERE HAD BEEN A FIRE BECAUSE THE CIRCUITRY WAS MELTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 36,000. RECALL 07V092000 WAS FOR THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. THE DEALER ADVISED THE C ONTACT THAT THE THIS VEHICLE IS NOT INVOLVED IN THE RECALL DUE TO THE VIN. THE DEALER WILL NOT RELEASE THE VEHICLE TO THE CONTACT BECAUSE IT WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE IT. THE DEALER WOULD NOT REPAIR THE VEHICLE AT HIS COST BECAUSE THEY DID NOT HAVE AUTHORIZATION. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE 36,000.*AK
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY FOR ABOUT 3 MINUTES AND I NOTICED THE INTERIOR LIGHTING WAS ON. AT THIS TIME MY INSTRUMENT PANEL STARTED SMOKING. ONCE THIS HAPPENED THE GAUGES STARTED ACTING CRAZY AND THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS CAME ON. THE SWITCH WAS NOT ON AND THERE WERE NO LIGHTS IN THE DASH. BY THE TIME I GOT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD THE DASH HAD BLACK SMOKE COMING FROM IT. WITHIN 5 MINUTES THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY ENGULFED WITH FLAMES. BY THE TIME THE FIRE AND RESCUE GOT THERE THE TRAFFIC ON THE HIGHWAY HAD SLOWED CONSIDERABLY AND THE SMOKE WAS SO BAD YOU COULDN'T EVEN SEE THE HIGHWAY. THE VEHICLE WAS A TOTAL LOSS. THERE ARE A NUMBER OF THINGS THAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED. THANKFULLY NO ONE WAS INJURED AND MY CHILDREN WERE NOT IN THE VEHICLE. *JB
DRIVING ABOUT 20 MILES AN HOUR VEHICLE CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP THE TIRES LOCKED UP COULD NOT MOVE VEHICLE HAD TO HAVE TOWED TO DEALER PROBLEM WAS A COMPLETE AXLE FAILURE MILEAGE 20,000. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 DODGE DURANGO. THE INTERIOR DOME LIGHTS REMAINED ILLUMINATED AT ALL TIMES, INCLUDING WHEN THE ENGINEWAS OFF. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE REASON THE LIGHTS REMAINED ILLUMINATED. THE MANUFACTURER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THERE RECALL 07V092000 FOR THE INTERIOR LIGHTING. HOWEVER, THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT A PART OF THE RECALL. THE CONTACT STATED VEHICLE HAD SAME PROB LEM AS INDICATED IN THE RECALL. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.*AK
2/15/07 WHILE DRIVING THE ENGINE JUST SHUT OFF. 3/12/07 TRUCK WAS RUNNING FINE. DROVE APPROX. 2 MILES AND IT WOULD NOT RE-START. ENGINE WOULD FIRE, THEN STALL. AFTER 5 ATTEMPTS IT STARTED CONTINUED TO RUN FINE. *JB
2004 5.7L HEMI , 46000 MILES, FIRST STALLED WHEN DRIVING 35 MPH ON MARCH 12, PULLED OVER AND WAS ABLE TO RESTART. SINCE THEN ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON INTERMITTENTLY, CAR HAS NOW STALLED MULTIPLE TIMES AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS AND DRIVING CONDITIONS. ALSO SUDDEN RPM DROP OFF AT LOW IDLE. ONE THING IS CONSISTENT, STALLS LEAVE NO POWER STEERING OR BRAKES, THIS IS SCARY AND DANGEROUS !!! NO ACCIDENTS...YET GOING TO CALL TOMORROW TO SEE IF CAN GET INTO DEALERSHIP AND HAVE TSB APPLIED. *JB
ON MARCH 1ST, 2007 WE NOTICED THAT ALL THE INTERIOR LIGHTS IN OUR 2004 DURANGO WOULD NOT TURN OFF. CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY COULDN'T TAKE THE VEHICLE UNTIL THE 2ND. DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY, AND RE-CONNECTED IT TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP ON THE 2ND. THE DEALERSHIP HAD THE VEHICLE UNTIL THE 6TH. MY WIFE WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP ON MARCH 6, 2007 TO FIND OUT IF THEY KNEW WHAT WAS WRONG, BECAUSE THEY WOULDN'T ANSWER THEIR PHONES. WHEN SHE GOT THERE SHE LEARNED THAT THERE HAD BEEN A FIRE IN THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT OVER NIGHT. IT WAS EXPECTED THAT OUR VEHICLE HAD CAUSED THE FIRE. I WAS COMPLETELY SURPRISED WHEN I HEARD THE NEWS, BUT KNOW THAT I HAVE SEEN ALL THE REPORTS ABOUT SIMILAR INCIDENTS IT DOESN'T SURPRISE ME AT ALL. I AM JUST GLAD THIS HAPPENED AT THE DEALERSHIP, AND NOT AT MY HOME. OR EVEN WORSE WITH MY WIFE AND KIDS IN THE VEHICLE. DODGE NEEDS TO WAKE UP AND REALIZE THAT THERE IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM AND NOTIFY PEOPLE BEFORE SOMEONE GETS SERIOUSLY HURT OR KILLED. *JB
TL* - THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 DODGE DURANGO. THE INTERIOR LIGHTING IN THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WILL NOT TURN OFF. THE FAILURE CAUSED THE BATTERY TO LOSE ITS CHARGE ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE RADIO AND THE DOOR CHIME TURNED ON INTERMITTENTLY. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED A NEW CLUSTER MODULE. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT RECALL#07V092000 RELATED TO THE INSTRUMENT PANEL DID NOT PERTAIN TO THIS VEHICLE DUE TO THE VIN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE 43,000. *AK THE CONSUMER STATES THERE IS ANOTHER RECALL PERTAINING TO HIS VEHICLE RECALL #03V528000 AND ALSO HAS INVOICES FOR SERVICE PROVIDED TO VEHICLE. ON MARCH 2, 2007 I GOT IN MY 2004 DODGE DURANGO LIMITED (HEMI) TO TAKE MY KIDS TO SCHOOL, I NOTICED MY RADIO HAD NO SOUND, THE POWER CAME ON, BUT NO SOUND AT ALL WAS HEARD. AFTER I DROVE ABOUT 1/2 OF A MILE THE SPEEDOMETER AND TACHOMETER GAUGES STARTED ACTING ERRATIC, JUMPING UP AND DOWN, THE RADIO CAME BACK ON FOR A FEW SECONDS, THEN CUT OUT AGAIN. THE OVERHEAD TEMP CONTROL WAS JUMPING FROM 54 DEGREES TO NEGATIVE 40!. MY AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYED ON AS WELL AS THE ETC LIGHT. AFTER DROPPING MY KIDS AT SCHOOL, I HAVE NOT DROVE THIS TRUCK, WITH LESS THAN 41000 MILES. AFTER READING THAT FIRES HAVE STARTED IN MANY OTHER 2004 DURANGO'S, I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHY MY TRUCK HAS NOT BEEN ISSUED A RECALL, WHAT ARE THEY WAITING FOR? I CAN NOT PUT MY KIDS IN THIS TRUCK. IN OCTOBER 2006 MY TRUCK WAS LEAKING FROM ABOVE MY DRIVERS SIDE DOOR (34713 MILES), WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY HAD TO RE-SEAL SEAMS ABOVE MY DOOR AS WELL AS OTHER POSSIBLE AREAS WATER COULD BE GETTING IN, ONE WEEK LATER MY TRUCK STARTED STALLING AT STOP SIGNS, MY HUSBAND TOOK IT DO THE DEALER AGAIN (35050 MILES) THE DEALER SCHAEFER AND STROHMINGER DODGE WHITEMARSH OF COURSE TELLS US THAT IT IS LACK OF MAINTENANCE (NOT TRUE) AND WE NEED THE THROTTLE BODY CLEANED ($169.00 AND A TUNE UP $182.00) YET JUST THE WEEK BEFORE WHEN MY TRUCK WAS THERE THEY DID THE MULTI-POINT INSPECTION REPORT AND CHECKED THAT EVERYTHING WAS FINE. AFTER DOING RESEARCH I FOUND OUT THE ISSUE WITH THE LEAK ABOVE MY DOOR WAS SENT OUT AS A CUSTOMER SATISFACTION NOTIFICATION NO. D10, DATED MARCH 2004, WHY DIDN'T I GET THIS NOTIFICATION? BETTER YET, WHY DIDN'T THE DEALER FIX THIS BEFORE I BOUGHT IT IN SEPT. 04? WHAT GOOD IS THE WARRANTY FROM THEM WHEN EVERYTHING IS DENIED? I WILL NEVER BUY A DODGE/CHRYSLER VEHICLE AGAIN. I HAVE HAD MANY VEHICLES AND NEVER HAD AN ISSUE WITH A DEALER NOT HONORING A WARRANTY AND FIXING PROBLEMS, THIS IS RIDICULOUS AND UNSAFE. *JB
2004 DODGE DURANGO THAT QUITS WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY AND AFTER PARKED. *JB
I HAVE FOUND THAT MY ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, SPECIFICALLY THE ALARM AT THE MOMENT, FAILS PERIODICALLY. THE CAR HAS SHUT DOWN WHILE RUNNING BEFORE. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE. NOW THE ALARM IS MALFUNCTIONING IN THAT IT GOES OFF BY ITSELF THE KEY WON'T SHUT IT OFF, AND TURNING THE ENGINE DOESN'T STOP IT EITHER. FURTHER, THE CAR IS MANUFACTURED WITH A KILL SWITCH IN THE OEM ALARM. I HAVE READ MANY COMPLAINTS SIMILAR TO THIS ON THIS VEHICLE WITH NO SATISFACTION OR ACKNOWLEDGEMENT FROM THE MANUFACTURER. I AM THE SOLE OWNER OF THIS VEHICLE. THE FACT THAT THE ALARM/ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IS OEM AND THAT THE ALARM CAN DISABLE THE ENGINE POSES A PROBLEM. THE CAR RECENTLY FELL OUT OF WARRANTY, ADMITTEDLY, BUT THE FACT REMAINS THAT THERE APPEARS TO BE A LETENT DEFECT IN THE ALARM/ELECTRICAL SYSTEM THAT CAN BE AND IS VERY DANGEROUS. THE FIRST TIME THE CAR SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING MY WIFE HAD OUR TWO SMALL CHILDREN ABOARD. LUCKILY, SHE WAS ON A SURFACE STREET VICE A HIGHWAY AT SPEED. THE DEALERSHIPS AVOWS NO KNOWLEDGE OF THERE BEING TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS (TSB) OR THE SAFETY HAZARD THIS POSES. THE OEM ALARM PROBLEM HASN'T CAUSED ANY MOVING SAFETY ISSUES FOR ME AS I CAN TELL, BUT SINCE THE CAR HAS SHUT OFF WHILE IN OPERATION PREVIOUSLY, I AM DRAWING A NOVICE CONCLUSION THAT THE TWO PROBLEMS COULD BE RELATED. THE ALARM PROBLEM NOW IS OCCURING DAILY SEVERAL TIMES A DAY. INITIALLY, THE DEALERSHIP INSISTED I BUY A NEW REPROGRAMMED KEY AT OVER $200 TO FIX THE PROBLEMS. I BELIEVE THAT MANUFACTURER TSB IS 0802404. IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME UNTIL SOMEONE IS SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED AS A RESULT OF THE SHUT OFF AND POSSIBLE ALARM PROBLEMS. WITHOUT WARNING, MY VEHICLE HAS STALLED DURING SLOW DOWN. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE IN THE LAST TWO YEARS. THE VEHICLE IS A 2004 DODGE DURANGO LIMITED WITH THE 5.7L HEMI ENGINE. AFTER FIRST INCIDENT, DEALER SAYS THAT NOTHING COULD BE FOUND. SECOND INCIDENT OCCURRED THIS PAST WEEK. WILL TRY A NEW DEALERSHIP. *JB
MY 2004 DODGE DURANGO WHICH I PURCHASED NEW, HAS STALLED SEVERAL TIMES WITHOUT ANY WARNING /LIGHTS COMING ON ETC. THIS HAS HAPPENED AT LOW SPEEDS AND I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. I HAVE NOT REPORTED TO THE DEALER YET AS IT HAS JUST STARTED HAPPENING AND I CHECKED NHTSA WEBSITE FOR RECALLS/COMPLAINTS TO RESEARCH FIRST. APPARENTLY I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS ISSUE. VEHICLE ONLY HAS 37000 MILES ON IT. THIS COULD BE A SAFETY ISSUE! *JB
INTERIOR LIGHTS WILL NOT GO OUT. HEATED SEATS WILL NOT WORK, AIR PANEL LIGHTS DO NOT WORK. ONCE VEHICLE HAS BEEN SHUT OFF, I AM ABLE TO TURN OFF MAP LIGHTS AFTER ABOUT 5 MINUTES. THE LIGHT IN THE TAILGATE CANNOT BE SHUT OFF AT ALL. I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT WITH MINOT CHRYSLER ON 19 FEB, AND WAS TOLD THEY HAD SAME ISSUE ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO, WITH ANOTHER DURANGO. I WAS TOLD BY THEM TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY, AND AFTER READING ABOUT ALL OF THE VEHICLE FIRES, VEHICLE WILL NOT BE DRIVEN AGAIN UNTIL RESOLVED. THEY BELIEVE THEY KNOW THE CAUSE, WHICH WILL COST ME ABOUT 600.00. UNFORTUNATE I HAVE LEASED THE VEHICLE, AND AM OVER THE 3 YEAR, 36000 MILE WARRANTY. VEHICLE NOW HAS ABOUT 42000 MILES. ALSO NOTE, MY LEASE IS DONE ON THE 28TH OF MARCH. *JB

ON FEB. 10, 2007 @ 10:45 AM WHILE STOPPING AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO LOSE SPEED BEFORE COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP, THE ENGINE STOPPED RESPONDING & THE PANEL LIGHTS STARTED BLINKING ON & OFF, THEN A BURNING SMELL STARTED & SMOKE STARTED TO COME OUT OF THE DRIVERS PANEL AND I EXITED THE VEHICLE BEFORE PHYSICAL HARM COULD BE DONE TO ME. I CALLED 911 AND THEY HAD THE FIRE DEPARTMENT TO RESPOND. MY VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY ENGULFED WITH FLAMES BEFORE THEY ARRIVED. THE ENTIRE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE WAS BURNED BEYOND RECOGNITION. IT WAS EXTREMELY UNNERVING TO BE A PART OF THIS,I HAD NOT HAD ANY PROBLEMS OUT OF MY VEHICLE BEFORE THIS HORRIBLE INCIDENT. IT IS JUST UNTHINKABLE TO REALIZE THAT I HAVE BEEN DRIVING MY TWO KIDS IN MY DURANGO EVERY DAY FOR THE PAST 2 YEARS AND THANKS TO THE LORD ABOVE THAT THEY WERE AT HOME ON THIS MORNING, WHILE I WENT TO PICK UP THE GIRL SCOUT COOKIE ORDERS FOR MY DAUGHTER, WHICH WERE IN THE BACK OF THE DURANGO WHEN IT WENT UP IN SMOKE. I HAVE A 2004 DODGE DURANGO SUV, SINCE THE DAY THAT I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE I HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THE BRAKES. I HAVE BEEN IN SEVERAL NEAR MISSES BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WILL NOT STOP. I HAVE HAD IT IN THE SHOP AT LEAST 5 TIMES FOR THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE HAD STRANGERS DRIVE IT AND WATCHED THERE EXPRESSIONS WHEN THEY TRY TO STOP. WHEN I TAKE IT TO THE SHOP(DODGE) THEY TELL ME THAT IT IS WITHIN THE STANDARDS. MOST OF THESE SITUATIONS HAVE OCCURRED WHEN THE ROADS HAVE SNOW OR ICE ON THEM. AT 10-15 MPH THE VEHICLE WILL NOT STOP IT JUST SLIDES AND THE FRONT END JUST SHAKES LIKE THE FRONT END IS GOING TO FALL OFF. WE BOUGHT OUR DURANGO IN APRIL 2006. IT IS A 2004 AND JUST REACHED 40,000 MILES. TODAY WHEN WE DROVE IT THE DOME LIGHTS CAME ON LIKE ALWAYS WHEN WE GOT IN THE CAR, BUT THEN THEY NEVER TURNED OFF. WE THOUGHT MAYBE OUR SWITCH OR SOMETHING WAS BAD. WE GOT HOME AND PARKED IT, THEN ABOUT 20 MINUTES LATER, WE WENT TO GET INTO IT AND ....IT WAS FILLED WITH SMOKE. THE WHOLE FRONT OF OUR CAR IS BURNED...THE DASH, THE WINDSHIELD, THE SEATS, THE CEILING IS ALL BURNED AND HANGING DOWN WITH THE WIRES ALL MELTED AND BURNED. WE RECENTLY PURCHASED A USED 2004 DODGE DURANGO LIMITED. EQUIPPED WITH THE 5.7L HEMI. WE HAVE OWNED THE SUV FOR JUST UNDER 90 DAYS AND ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS THE ENGINE HAS STALLED WHEN MY WIFE WAS BACKING OUT OF OUR DRIVEWAY AND SHIFTING INTO DRIVE. IT TOOK 2 ATTEMPTS TO RE START IT WAS ALMOST LIKE THE ENGINE HAD LOADED UP. IT THEN RE STARTED FINE AFTER THE 2ND ATTEMPT. WITHIN THE FIRST 30,000 MILES I NOTICED AN OILY SUBSTANCE ON THE FLOOR OF MY GARAGE UNDERNEATH THE REAR OF MY DURANGO. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE REAR PINION SEAL WAS BAD AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE SEAL WAS REPLACED AND 13,000 MILES LATER I NOTICED THE SAME OILY SUBSTANCE ON THE GARAGE. I TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THE REAR PINION SEAL HAD GONE BAD AGAIN. THE FIRST TIME WAS COVERED BY THE WARRANTY AND WAS AT NO COST TO ME. THE SECOND TIME WAS PAST 36,000 MILES BUT STILL WITHIN MY 75,000 MILE WARRANTY. I WAS INFORMED THAT SINCE IT WAS PAST 36,000 MILES I WOULD HAVE TO PAY A $100 DEDUCTIBLE. AFTER BACK HATCH WAS OPENED AND CLOSED, BACK HATCH LIGHT STAYED ON CONTINUOUSLY, THIS BEGAN 3 DAYS AGO. BOTTOM OF INSTRUMENT PANEL/ HEATER AREA FAILED TO ILLUMINATE ON OCCASION. THIS BEGAN ABOUT 3 DAYS AGO. DROVE YESTERDAY, DRIVING FINE OTHER THAN THESE ELECTRICAL ISSUES. ABOUT 1 HOUR AFTER DRIVING CAR, HORRIBLE SMELL OCCURED IN INTERIOR- SMELLED LIKE A CROSS BETWEEN SOMETHING BURNING/ MELTING AND PAINT FUMES. UPON STARTING THE CAR THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS STARTED ON HIGH SPEED AND THE TOW LIGHT WAS FLASHING- COULD NOT TURN OFF WIPERS. MORE OF INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS WERE OUT, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM SEEMED CRAZY. IMMEDIATELY TURNED OFF CAR, AFRAID OF A FIRE. I'VE FOUND OTHER SIMILAR REPORTS OF 2004 DODGE DURANGOS AND HAVE HAD AUTO TOWED TO DEALER. INITALLY THEY NEED TO REPLACE THE CIRCUIT BOARD AS IT IS FRIED AND THEN LOOK AT THE TCM. THIS CAR IS ONLY 2 YEARS OLD . *NM
ON 12/31/2006, AS WE WERE LEAVING IN OUR 2004 DODGE DURANGO, THE AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCK MECHANISM ENGAGED, AND THEN THE INTERIOR LIGHTS CAME ON BY THEMSELVES AND WOULD NOT DIM. WE INITIALLY COULD NOT GET THEM OFF, BUT WE FINALLY WERE ABLE TO TURN OFF MOST OF THE INTERIOR LIGHTS EXCEPT FOR LIFTGATE LIGHT. SINCE THAT TIME, NONE OF THE INTERIOR LIGHTS COME ON WHEN OPENING THE DOOR. ALSO, ON THE AWD AND 4WD SWITCH PANEL, THE NEUTRAL LIGHT STAYS ON ALL THE TIME. THE ALARM ALSO GOES OFF WHEN USING THE KEY. WE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER ON 1/2/2007, AND THEN HAD TO BRING IT BACK THE NEXT DAY FOR AN ACTUAL APPOINTMENT. THEY INFORMED US THAT THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER PANEL, WHICH IS WHAT IS CAUSING THE ISSUE, IS ON BACK ORDER, AND WE HAVE TO WAIT 3 WEEKS TO TAKE IT IN SO THEY CAN ORDER PARTS. WE WILL HAVE TO HAVE A RENTAL CAR AS IT WILL TAKE POSSIBLY 4 DAYS, AND APPARENTLY WE CANNOT ACCRUE MILES ON THE DURANGO DURING THAT TIME. IN THE MEANTIME, WITH THE OTHER COMPLAINTS THAT HAVE BEEN FILED WITH SIMILAR PROBLEMS LIKE THIS AND THE POSSIBILITY OF FIRES, WE ARE LEAVING THE CAR OUT IN THE DRIVEWAY JUST IN CASE. *NM
AT APPROXIMATELY 10:30PM ON DECEMBER 26, 2006 OUR 2004 DODGE DURANGO CAUGHT OF FIRE. WE ORIGINALLY NOTICED THE INTERIOR LIGHTS WOULD NOT GO OFF EITHER MANUALLY OR AUTOMATICALLY. AFTER DRIVING THE VEHICLE FOR ABOUT 45 MINUTES SMOKE POURED OUT OF THE DASH BOARD AND WITHIN MINUTES FIRE ERUPTED AND IGNITED THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE. FLAMES BROKE THROUGH THE WINDSHIED AND CAUSED ADDITIONAL DAMAGE TO THE ROOF OF THE VEHICLE. FIREFIGHTERS ARRIVED ON THE SCENE WITHIN 10 MINUTES AND EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. ALL OF OUR PERSONAL PROPERTY WAS DAMAGED AND MY DAUGHTER (7) AND SON (5) WILL STILL NOT FALL ASLEEP AT NIGHT IN FEAR THE HOUSE WILL CATCH ON FIRE SINCE WE HAVE AN ATTACHED GARAGE. *NM

A WEEK LATER IT WAS ALL FIXED;OR SO I THOUGHT. A COUPLE OF DAYS LATER, I WAS ON MY WAY HOME FROM MORNING PHYSICAL TRAINING,TO CHANGE INTO MY UNIFORM. I WAS ABOUT TO MAKE A RIGHT HAND TURN ONTO MY STREET, AND THEN IT HAPPENED. MY BRAKES AND STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP. I PUMPED AND PUMPED, BUT NO RESPONSE. I CONTACTED CERRITOS DODGE AND SPOKE WITH BOB IN THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND HE TOLD ME THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR MY VEHICLE. ON WEDNESDAY THE 6TH OF DECEMBER I WAS DRIVING MY DODGE DURANGO AND NOTICED THAT THE DOME LIGHT WAS COMING ON AND WOULD NOT TURN OFF INTERMITTENTLY THAT DAY MY WIFE TOOK THE TRUCK TO THE BANK ,WHILE SHE WAS THERE SHE SMELLED SOMETHING BURNING. THIS GOT HER ATTENTION AND SHE LOOKED AT THE GAUGES AND NOTICED THAT ALL OF THE GAUGES WERE READING ZERO,THE TOW/HAUL LIGHT WAS ON AND THEN THE WIPERS CAME ON BY THEMSELVES. A SHORT TIME LATER SMOKE STARTED BLOWING OUT OF THE VENTS. SHE QUICKLY GOT OUT OF THE BANK LINE AND PARKED IT. SHE CALLED ME SO I DROVE DOWN TO CHECK IT OVER. AS SOON AS I OPENED THE DOOR I NOTICED A STRONG ODOR OF BURNT WIRING. I GAVE IT A QUICK LOOK OVER AND FOUND THE TURN SIGNALS AND STOP LIGHTS WERE ALSO NOT WORKING. LATER THAT NIGHT WE WERE ABLE TO DRIVE IT BACK TO MY SHOP(WITH THE WIPERS STILL GOING)I CHECKED ON ALLDATA FOR SERVICE BULLETINS TO HELP ME DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM AND FOUND RECALL C43 WHICH SEEMED TO BE A MATCH FOR OUR SYMPTOMS. I PULLED THE CLUSTER TO CHECK FOR BURNT WIRING BUT DID NOT FIND ANY. FURTHER INVESTIGATION REVEALED A STRONG BURNT SMELL FROM THE CLUSTER. I CALLED DODGE CUSTOMER SERVICE TO SEE IF C43 APPLIED TO MY VEHICLE AND THEY SAID THAT IT DID NOT,BECAUSE IT WAS BUILT 2 MONTHS AFTER THE RECALL DATE. I ASKED IF THEY COULD OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE BUT THEY FLATLY REFUSED BECAUSE I HAD PULLED THE GAUGES MYSELF EVEN THOUGH I AM A CERTIFIED MECHANIC WITH 11 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE. I HAVE NOT CORRECTED THE PROBLEM YET BUT I WILL PROBABLY REPLACE THE CLUSTER NEXT WEEK. *JB
I WAS DRIVING MY WIFE TO WORK THAT MORNING, IT WAS A BRIGHT CLEAR DAY. I WAS PARKED HALF OUT OF GARAGE. AS MY WIFE CAME OUT OF THE LAUNDRY ROOM I TOUCHED THE GAS TO PULL FORWARD. HE TOLD ME KNOW HE COULD GET HIS DATA FROM COMPUTER. THE CHRYSLER LEGAL TEAM SENT NE A NASTY LETTER STATING THAT I HADE MOVED THE VEHICLE AND THEY WERE NO LONGER RESPONSIBLE. I EVEN TRIED TO CALL CHRYSLER BACK TO TELL THEM THE SUV DID THE SAME THING, BUT THEY INFORMED ME LEGAL TOOK OVER THE CASE AND THEY NEEDED NO OTHER DATA FROM ME. JUST ONE THING WHEN THIS HAPPENS AGAIN AND KILLS MYSELF, MY FAMILY OR A BUS OF KIDS. WHO WILL BE GOING TO JAIL FOR THE REST OF THERE LIFE.
ENGINE DIED AS WE WERE EXITING THE FREEWAY AFTER DRIVING ABOUT 40 MILES. HAD IT TOWED TO DEALERSHIP. WERE TOLD THE ENGINE FAILED BECAUSE OF SLUDGE BUILD-UP FROM FAILURE TO CHANGE OIL OFTEN ENOUGH. $6000 TO REPLACE WITH A REMANUFACTURED ENGINE. NEW ENGINE WOULD HAVE BEEN $8, 000. WE DID NOT HAVE RECEIPTS OF THE OIL CHANGES PERFORMED, AND SO WE HAD TO PAY FOR ENGINE REPLACEMENT. HAVE SINCE HEARD OF MANY OTHERS WHO HAD THE SAME EXPERIENCE.*AK
WHILE DRIVING (20 MPH) THE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY FELL OFF. APPARENTLY, THE FOUR BOLTS THAT ONCE ANCHORED THIS SHAFT JUST FELL OUT. THE VEHICLE HAS ONLY 36,000 MILES. I STOPPED THE VEHICLE AND HAD NO PARK GEAR SO I APPLIED THE PARKING BREAK. THE VEHICLE IS AS THE DEALERSHIP PENDING REPAIR. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. IT WAS MANEUVERED OFF THE ROAD AND RESTARTED. THIS OCCURRED ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS AND BOTH TIMES, THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE DEALER WHO COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM.
MY VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY TURNED OFF. THE DASH CAUGHT ON FIRE AND FILLED THE VEHICLE WITH SMOKE. THE DASH IS NOW COMPLETELY INOPERABLE. CHRYSLER IS REFUSING TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR BECAUSE THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY, THE DEALER CANNOT SAY WHAT CAUSED THIS PROBLEM. THIS VEHICLE IS UNSAFE!! *NM
