THE SMOKE APPEARED FROM THE RACK ON THE DRIVER SIDE AND FLAMES EMITTED ON THE DRIVER SIDE HEAD RACK. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 77,000.

THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V154000 (SERVICE BRAKES, SERVICE BRAKES HYDRAULIC); HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE ROTORS WERE DEFECTIVE AND THAT THE BRAKE AND PADS FAILED TO RELEASED WITHOUT A WARNING. GOT OUT OF MY CAR AND SMELT BURNING WIRES I LIFTED MY HOOD AND SAW SMOKE COMING OUT BY THE ALTERNATOR. THEN I NOTICED THE MY BATTERY WAS DEAD. I WOUND UP REPLACING THE ALTERNATOR AND BATTERY. THE CAR STARTED AND ALL SEEMED FINE. LATER THAT DAY MY BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON AND THE DASH LIGHTS ALL STARTED TO COME ON AND GO OFF. I WENT TO THE STORE AND ON MY WAY HOME MY LIGHTS STARTED GOING OFF AND ON THE DASHBOARD STARTED TO LIGHT UP AGAIN AND THE RADIO WENT OFF AND CAME ON MY A/C WENT OFF AND ON. THEN MY POWER STEERING WENT OUT AND MY BRAKES FAILED. I ALMOST WRECKED. THANKFULLY I WAS IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD AND WAS ABLE TO GET HOME WITHOUT INCIDENT. THIS CAR DEFINITELY HAS A ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.

THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V530000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM); HOWEVER, THE REPAIR FAILED TO REMEDY THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000.
I WAS ON MY WAY TO WORK TODAY WHEN I NOTICED A BURNING SMELL AND THEN THE BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON. DUE TO HEAVY TRAFFIC I COULDN'T PULL TO THE SIDE. I GOT FARTHER DOWN THE ROAD AND HEARD A LOUD WHINING NOISE. WHEN I ARRIVED AT WORK I CONTACTED THE LOCAL DODGE DEALERSHIP TO SPEAK WITH THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT ABOUT THIS INCIDENT. I WAS TOLD THAT IT SOUNDS LIKE THE ALTERNATOR BUT THAT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT COVERED IN THE RECENT RECALL SINCE I HAVE THE 180AMP ALTERNATOR. THE RECALL WAS ONLY FOR THE 160 AMP ALTERNATORS. I WAS SHOCKED SINCE MY VEHICLE ONLY HAS 61,000 MILES ON IT. RESEARCHING THIS PROBLEM ONLINE I FOUND NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS FROM PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME IDENTICAL PROBLEM WITH THE 180AMP ALTERNATOR (WITH THE SAME MAKE MODEL AND YEAR) THAT CAUSED THE RECALL OF THE 160AMP ALTERNATORS. I HAVE CONTACTED DODGE TO SEE IF THEY WOULD STAND BY THEIR PRODUCT AND DO THE RIGHT THING CONCERNING THIS. ONCE AGAIN THEY HAVE FAILED ME. CONSUMERS ARE REPORTING AN AVERAGE OF $1400 TO HAVE THE ALTERNATOR REPLACED WITH NO RECALL OR WARRANTY. I HAVE 4 PICTURES OF MY SOOT COVERED ALTERNATOR ( I AM A FIREFIGHTER I KNOW WHAT ELECTRICAL SOOT LOOKS AND SMELLS LIKE). THIS IS VERY CONCERNING TO THINK I COULD LOSE MY DURANGO COULD CATCH FIRE, LOOSE POWER AND STALL IN TRAFFIC, CAUSE AN ACCIDENT OR HAVE MY WIFE STRANDED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD DUE TO THIS.

MY VEHICLE IS SUBJECT TO RECALL NUMBER 14V-530 DATED SEPTEMBER 3, 2014. I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED DESPITE HAVING MY VEHICLE SERVICED AT THE DEALERSHIP ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. I RECENTLY CONTACTED BOTH THE DEALERSHIP AND MANUFACTURER AND HAVE BEEN INFORMED THE PART IS NOT AVAILABLE DESPITE THE MANUFACTURERS RECALL WEBSITE STATING IT IS. I AM CONCERNED TO BE DRIVING IN A VEHICLE WITH A POTENTIALLY LIFE THREATENING DEFECT.

SEVERAL DAYS BEFORE THIS INCIDENT MY 2011 DODGE DURANGO STARTED TO HAVE PROBLEMS STARTING. IT WOULD TRY TO START AND NEVER TURN OVER AND WOULD TAKE ME SEVERAL TRIES TO FINALLY GET IT STARTED. I DISCOVERED ONLINE THAT THERE IS A RECALL FOR THE TIPM FUEL PUMP RELAY AND THAT THIS COULD CAUSE PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE STARTING OR EVEN STALLING WHILE DRIVING. I TOOK MY DODGE INTO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY COMPLETED THE RECALL AND INFORMED ME THAT IN DOING SO THE VEHICLE NOW STARTED FINE LEADING ME TO BELIEVE THE TIPM WAS THE PROBLEM AND WAS NOW FIXED. I DROVE FOR TWO DAYS WITHOUT ANY ISSUE. THEN LAST NIGHT ON MY WAY HOME, WITH ALL MY FAMILY IN THE VEHICLE THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF WHILE I WAS DRIVING RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE RODE. MY LIGHTS AND DASH DISOLAY WERE STILL WORKING BUT MY VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER ON. I PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK AND SWITCHED THE IGNITION BACK TO START MODE AND ATTEMPTED TO START IT. AFTER SEVERAL TRY'S OF IT ATTEMPTING TO START IT JUST WOULDN'T TURN OVER. I THEN TRIED TO PUT THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL TO PUSH IT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND WAS UNABLE TO EVEN DO THAT. MY VEHICLE WAS STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD WITH NO WAY TO MOVE IT!!! AFTER 30 MINUTES AND SEVERAL MORE ATTEMPTS IT FINALLY TURNED OVER AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT HOME.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 DODGE DURANGO. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, A WARNING SENSOR LIGHT ILLUMINATED INDICATING THAT THE BATTERY WAS FAULTY AND THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE TOTALLY INTEGRATED POWER MODULE WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 44,000.
WHILE DRIVING, THE CAR WILL ABRUPTLY SPEED UP AND SLOW DOWN WITHOUT ANY PRESSURE OR CHANGE IN MOVEMENT ON THE GAS PEDAL. THIS HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES SINCE ABOUT EARLY 2012. I HAD A REPAIR DONE ON THE CAR BY THE DEALERSHIP AS PART OF MY WARRANTY NOW THESE PROBLEMS HAVE MADE A REAPPEARANCE. ALONG SIDE SUDDEN SPEED CHANGES WITHOUT ME TOUCHING ANYTHING, I HAVE HAD TWO PREVIOUS INCIDENTS OF THE CAR (WHILE DRIVING!) TURNING ON ALL ERROR INDICATORS (CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, HIGH BEAM, HAZARD LIGHTS, TIRE PRESSURE ETC) AND WIPER BLADES SIMULTANEOUSLY. THESE WERE VERY SCARY INCIDENTS, TOO SCARED TO DRIVE TO THE DEALERSHIP I RETURNED TO MY HOUSE (WENT TO DROP MY SON OFF TO GET A HAIR CUT) AND CALLED THE DEALERSHIP IN WHICH MY VEHICLE WAS TOWED THE NEXT DAY. I HAVE ALSO HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE FOB TECHNOLOGY IN THE KEYLESS START OF THE CAR WHERE I WOULD PUT MY PURSE IN THE BACK SEAT OF THE CAR, CLOSE THE DOOR AND ALL DOORS LOCK AND WILL NOT UNLOCK, THEN I HAVE TO ONCE AGAIN CALL THE DEALERSHIP AND WAIT FOR THEM TO ASSIST ME. ONE OF THE MAIN REASON I BOUGHT THIS CAR IS BECAUSE I WAS ASSURED KEYS LOCKED IN THE CAR WOULD NEVER HAPPEN, HOWEVER I HAVE HAD IT HAPPEN TO ME MORE THAN ALL MY OTHER CARS IN THE PAST. NOW I HAVE A SMALL CHILD WITH ME AND ALONG SIDE THESE RECENT REOCCURRENCE OF SERIOUS ISSUES WITH MY CAR AND BIG RECALL BY FCA, NO LONGER DO I FEEL SAFE DRIVING.

THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000.
I DROVE APPROXIMATELY 45 MILES FROM MY HOME TO VISIT RELATIVES FOR THE 4TH OF JULY. TWO HOURS AFTER ARRIVING I WENT TO DRIVE MY DURANGO AND IT WOULDN'T START. WHEN PUSHING THE IGNITION BUTTON IT WOULD JUST MAKE A LOUD NOISE SIMILAR TO THE ALTERNATOR GOING OUT AND WOULDN'T START. MY DURANGO HAD TO BE TOWED TO A LOCAL DEALERSHIP THAT FOLLOWING MONDAY SINCE THEY CLOSED EARLY FOR THE 4TH OF JULY. DIAGNOSTICS WERE RAN AND IT WAS CONCLUDED THE FUEL PUMP WAS OUT. THIS HAPPENED LESS THAN 1 YEAR FROM HAVING THE TIPM FUEL PUMP RELAY REPAIRED ON 7/25/14, WHICH CHRYSLER LATER ISSUED A RECALL FOR. I'M IN THE PROCESS OF SEEKING REIMBURSEMENT FOR THOSE REPAIRS. I STRONGLY BELIEVE THERE IS A DIRECT CORRELATION TO THE FAULTY TIPM FUEL PUMP RELAY CAUSING THE ACTUAL FUEL PUMP TO FAIL AND SHOULD BE COVERED BY CHRYSLER. REPAIRS WERE IN EXCESS OF OVER 1K TO HAVE FIXED.

THE VEHICLE DID NOT RESTART AND WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BATTERY FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO THE ALTERNATOR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V634000: (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). I HAD SMELLED SOMETHING IN MY CAR FOR A WHILE AND COULD NOT FIGURE OUT WHAT IT WAS. ABOUT 15 MINS INTO MY TRIP, MY EYES STARTED TO BURN AND TEAR, AND MY NOSE FELT LIKE IT WAS ON FIRE. BUT I GOT IT SUBSIDED. ANOTHER 15 MINS LATER I LOOKED OVER AT MY PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW AND REALIZED MY CAR WAS SMOKING AND IT WAS COMING FROM MY SUN VISOR. I HAD TO WAIT TO GET TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD AS I WAS IN THE I-PASS LANE AND HAD TO GET PAST A CEMENT WALL BEFORE GETTING MY CAR SAFELY AWAY FROM OTHER TRAFFIC. I STOPPED MY CAR, AND CALLED 911. STATE TROOPER SHOWED UP, AND AS HE WAS WALKING TO HIS CAR TO GET A FIRE EXTINGUISHER, FLAMES STARTED. THE CAR WAS TURNED OFF AT THIS TIME, BUT THE SMOKE STARTED AS I WAS DRIVING. AFTER THE STATE TROOPER USED THE EXTINGUISHER, IT WAS STILL SMOKING SO HE CALLED IN THE FIRE DEPARTMENT. THEY THEN RIPPED THE LINER DOWN SO THEY COULD SPRAY THE AREA WITH WATER. ONCE MY HUSBAND ARRIVED HE THEN DISCONNECTED THE CAR BATTERY TO MAKE IT SAFE TO MOVE THE VEHICLE. WE HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE THE RECALL FOR THE SUN VISOR WAS PERFORMED. WE ARE NOW WAITING TO HEAR BACK FROM CHRYSLER TO SEE WHAT OUR NEXT STEP IS. I HAVE A DOCTOR APPOINTMENT SCHEDULED FOR WEDNESDAY, JUNE 24TH TO VERIFY THAT EVERYTHING IS OKAY. INHALING SMOKE AND THE FUMES IS WHY I AM DOING THIS. THIS IS THE FIRST APPOINTMENT I COULD GET WITH MY DOCTOR.

THE VEHICLE STALLED, BUT THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING AND THE GEAR SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL. ONCE THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPED, THE RPMS INCREASED. THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO SHIFT THE GEAR INTO DRIVE WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO LOCATE ANY FAILURES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 54,800.
WE HAVE HAD MANY PROBLEMS WITH THIS SUV SINCE DATE OF PURCHASE. OUR LATEST ISSUE IS THE REAR HATCH WILL NOT STAY OPEN AND IT JUST SLAMS SHUT AND OVER RIDES THE SAFETY FEATURE OF IF AN OBJECT OR PERSON IS IN THE WAY IT WOULD GO BACK OPEN. CURRENTLY AS IT IS IT WOULD CRUSH A PERSON, THE ISSUE MAKES IT SO WE CAN NOT EVEN USE OUR REAR HATCH. THERE WAS A NOTICE SENT OUT BY THE TSB ON FEB. 1, 2013 NUMBER 08-005-13 ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND HOW IT NEEDS A NEW SOFTWARE UPDATE. I HAVE SPOKEN TO CHRYSLER A NUMBER OF TIMES ABOUT THIS ISSUE, THEY SAID WE WOULD HAVE TO TAKE IT INTO A DEALERSHIP AND PAY FOR IT TO BE LOOKED AT. FIRST THAT IS SO NOT RIGHT AS IF IT IS A KNOWN PROBLEM TO THEM AND THEY KNOW HOW TO FIX IT, SECOND THE DEALERSHIP I PURCHASED THIS SUV FROM IS 2 MILES FROM OUR HOME THEY REFUSE TO WORK OUR SUV AND WANT US TO DRIVE 80 PLUS MILES TO HAVE IT WORKED ON., THIS IS NOT RIGHT AS I BOUGHT IT FROM THEM WHY SHOULD I ENDURE THE TIME AND EXSPENSE OF FIXING AN ISSUE WE HAVE NO CONTROL OVER. WE ASK THAT YOU GUYS STEP IN AND MAKE THEM MAKE RIGHT BY THIS AND FIX THIS ISSUE THAT THEY KNOW IS COMMON FOR THIS YEAR AND MODEL.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN I COME ACROSS A ROUGH SPOT THAT IS UNAVOIDABLE (WITH ALL THE CONSTRUCTION ON THE ROADS) MY STEERING WHEEL STARTS ROCKING AND IT BECOMES VERY DIFFICULT TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE CAR. IT RESEMBLES A FLAT TIRE. I HAVE TO REALLY PAY ATTENTION AND KEEP THE CAR IN MY LANE. THERE IS ALSO A VERY NOTICEABLE RATTLE/NOISE/VIBRATION UNDER THE CAR. I HAVE HAD THE ALIGNMENT DONE AND EVEN PURCHASED NEW TIRES, BUT SO FAR NOTHING HAS HELPED.

WE WHERE TRAVELING ON INTERSTATE FROM OUR GIRLS SOFTBALL GAME WHEN WE STARTED SMELLING BURNING WIRES THEN GAUGES STARTED ACTING FUNNY AND IT JUST SHUT OFF ALMOST LOST STEERING AND BRAKING, I GOT IT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD BUT WITH 3 FT STILL IN THE INTERSTATE, WE PULLED GIRLS OUT AND PUT THEM ON A20FT BANK THAT WAS BEHIND A GUARDRAIL, WHILE I LOOKED TO SEE THE PROBLEM, I'M A SHADE TREE MECHANIC SO I STARTED LOOKING AND SEE SMOKE COMING FROM ALTERNATOR,IT WAS AS HOT A THE EXHAUST, WE HAD A FRIEND TOW IT TO THE HOUSE, I CALL DEALER THEY SAID THEIR WAS A RECALL FOR THE SAME THING THAT MINE DID BUT IT WAS FOR THE 160 AMP ALTERNATOR AND I HAD THE 180 AMP, THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED TO MAKE SURE ALL MODEL THAT ARE AFFECTED ARE COVERED, I HAVE REPLACED THE ALTERNATOR MYSELF BUT IF THERE IS SOMETHING ELSE CAUSE THIS IT NEEDS TO BE RECALLED AND FIXED, BEFORE A CRASH OR POSSIBLE A FIRE!

WE TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND CONTACTED CHRYSLER WHO TOLD US OUR VIN NUMBER WAS NOT PART OF THE ALTERNATOR RECALL AND WE HAD TO PAY FOR A NEW ALTERNATOR OUT OF POCKET. MY 2011 DODGE DURANGO CREW SAYS KEY NO DETECTED WHEN I ATTEMPT TO START THE VEHICLE. I THOUGHT IT WAS THE BATTERY IN THE KEY FOB BECAUSE THE VEHICLE STATED LOW KEY BATTERY AND TOOK THE FOB TO BATTERY'S PLUS. THEY TESTED THE KEY FOB AND STATED THE BATTERY WAS FINE AND DIDN'T NEED TO BE REPLACED. ALSO THE DRIVERS SIDE HEAD AND BRAKE LIGHTS GO OUT.
TRANSMISSION FLUID IS LEAKING FROM THE AC CONDENSER OF MY 2011 DODGE DURANGO. THERE IS PURPLISH FLUID ON MY DRIVEWAY AND THE CONDENSER IS COVERED IN FLUID. WHEN I CALLED TO INQUIRE ABOUT THE CONDENSER, THE DEALERSHIP STATED THAT THERE IS NO RECALL ON THIS PART AND THE 3 YEAR WARRANTY IS OUT. THEY WANT $110 JUST TO LOOK UNDER THE HOOD TO SEE WHERE THE FLUID IS COMING FROM. CHRYSLER IS AWARE OF THE ISSUE BECAUSE CHANGES HAVE BEEN MADE IN THE 2015 DODGE DURANGOS. VEHICLE IS RUNNING A LITTLE SLUGGISH AND I AM CONCERNED THAT THIS MAY ALSO BE A FIRE HAZARD.

SINCE THEN INVERTER POWER PLUG IN BACK SEAT DOESNT WORK NOW NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. TIRE SENSOR REAR DRIVER SIDE DISPLAYED THAT IT HAD NO PRESSURE AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. ARE THESE THINGS CONNECTED ELECTRICALLY?
THERE WAS AN ELECTRICAL FIRE INSIDE THE CABIN OF THE VEHICLE FROM WITHIN THE HEADLINER, DIRECTLY ABOVE THE DRIVERS HEAD, WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. THE DRIVER WAS FORCED TO PULL OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AS THE CABIN FILLED WITH SMOKE DUE TO VISION AND RESPIRATORY DISTRESS. THERE WAS ALSO ADDITIONAL DAMAGE TO THE EXTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE ON THE ROOF, AS THE FIRE BURNED LONG AND HOT ENOUGH TO CAUSE AN UNKNOWN AMOUNT OF STRUCTURAL AND COSMETIC DAMAGE TO THE ROOF. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS ALSO CALLED TO THE SCENE DURING THE INCIDENT TO INSURE THE FIRE WAS COMPLETELY EXTINGUISHED. WE INITIALLY HAD OUR VEHICLE AT A LOCAL DODGE DEALERSHIP ON 02/23/15 TO HAVE MULTIPLE MANUFACTURER RECALLS REPAIRED. ONE OF WHICH WAS DUE TO A POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD FROM THE VANITY/SUN VISOR WIRING IN THE HEADLINER (CHRYSLER RECALL P36). THAT RECALL WORK WAS COMPLETED, BUT WE BEGAN TO EXPERIENCE ELECTRICAL ISSUES WITH EQUIPMENT THAT OBTAINED POWER AND GROUND (SAME ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT AND FUSE) FROM THIS SAME CIRCUIT. INTERIOR LIGHTS WOULD FLASH AND DIM, AND THEN ULTIMATELY CEASED TO FUNCTION, THEN OUR STEERING WHEEL MOUNTED CONTROLS STOPPED FUNCTIONING ENTIRELY. WE RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP ON 3/23/15 AFTER TALKING WITH THE DEALERSHIP THAT PREVIOUS WEEK. THEY EXPLAINED THAT A "PINCHED WIRE" FROM WITHIN THE HEADLINER HAD CAUSED AN ISSUE IN THE CIRCUIT. HOWEVER, THEY INSISTED THAT THIS PINCHED WIRE DID NOT CAUSE THE STEERING WHEEL CONTROLS TO STOP FUNCTIONING (WHICH MADE THE STEERING WHEEL CONTROL MODULE INOPERABLE DUE TO ELECTRICAL SHORT), EVEN THOUGH THEY SHARED THE SAME WIRING. WE WERE ABLE TO RETRIEVE OUR VEHICLE AFTER ADDITIONAL REPAIRS WERE COMPLETED ON 3/27/15. THE CAR WAS DRIVEN ONE TIME ON 3/28/15, AND THEN ON 3/29/15 THE FIRE STARTED FROM WITHIN THE CABIN. *TR
THE HEADLINER NEXT TO THE MAP LIGHTS COUGHT ON FIRE. MY WIFE HAD PARKED IT AND SMELLED SMOKE. AFTER SHE BACKED IT OUT OF THE GARAGE FLAMES STARTED UP AND A FIRE EXTINGUISHER WAS USED. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT CAME AND PUT WATER ON IT TO MAKE SURE IT WAS OUT.

THE VERY FIRST TIME WAS WHEN I WAS SLOWING DOWN FROM ABOUT 50MPH AT A CORNER IN ORDER TO TAKE A RIGHT HAND TURN, ABOUT HALFWAY THROUGH THE 90 CORNER I FEEL THAT THE STEERING HAS STIFFENED. LOOKING DOWN, I SEE THAT THE TACHOMETER NOW READS 0, AND THE ENGINE HAS DIED. I CANNOT SIMPLY SLIP IT INTO NEUTRAL AND THEN RESTART IT BECAUSE OF THE CAR HAS A KEYLESS PUSHBUTTON AND THE START BUTTON ONLY WORKS WITH THE DRIVE IN PARK. I THEN HAVE TO ARMSTRONG IT THROUGH THE REST OF THE CORNER. AS I FINISH UP THE TURN TO WHERE I CAN SAFELY STOP AND RESTART, I THEN PUSH THE BRAKES ONLY TO FIND THAT THEY ARE NOW TOTALLY STIFF BECAUSE THERE IS NOW NO VACUUM LEFT TO ASSIST. I END UP COSTING TO A STOP. THE CAR ALWAYS RESTARTS WITHOUT ANY PROBLEM. THIS PROBLEM HAS PERSISTED AND HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST 20 TIMES SINCE. IT IS ALWAYS IS WHEN SLOWING DOWN FROM ANYWHERE FROM 60 TO 30 MPH AND BEGINNING TO TAKE A RIGHT TURN. I HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS HAPPEN WHEN DOING A LEFT, BUT THERE ARE NOT TO MANY CHANCES TO DUPLICATE THIS SCENARIO DOING A LEFT. WE HAD THE ONE RECALL FOR THE FUEL PUMP DONE SO THAT SHOULD NOT BE IT. WE HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS TO NUMEROUS DODGE DEALERS AND THEY HAVE DONE NOTHING. ONE SERVICE WRITER SAID THAT HE KNEW OF THE PROBLEM, KNEW THAT THE FUEL PUMP RECALL WAS NOT FIXING IT AND THAT THERE WAS GOING TO BE ANOTHER RECALL TO FIX THE PROBLEM. WHEN THIS HAPPENS UNEXPECTEDLY AS YOU ARE GOING 25 MPH IN A TRAFFIC ROUNDABOUT, IT IS ALL YOU CAN DO TO TRY TO STEER THROUGH THE REST OF THE TRAFFIC CIRCLE, ONLY TO FIND THAT YOUR POWER BRAKES ARE FAILED AS YOU TRY TO STOP TO RESTART. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS DEFECT THAT NEEDS IMMEDIATE ATTENTION, SOMEONE IS GOING TO BE KILLED WITH THIS HAPPENING, EITHER THE OCCUPANTS OF THE CAR, OR THE PUBLIC. I CAME BACK IN LATE JANUARY, AND THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO STALL ON ME WHILE DRIVING. THEY SAID THE WARRANTY WORK WAS DONE ON THE FUEL PUMP RELAY IN NOVEMBER. WHEN I TOOK IT BACK IN FEBRUARY, THEY REPLACED THE COMPUTER AND THE KEYS BECAUSE THEY SAID THAT THE VEHICLE WAS SHUTTING DOWN BECAUSE THE COMPUTER DIDN'T RECOGNIZE THAT THE KEY WAS IN THE VEHICLE AND IT SHUT DOWN TO PREVENT THE VEHICLE FROM BEING STOLEN. ON FEBRUARY 26TH, IT STALLED WHILE DRIVING AGAIN. I LEFT A VOICE MAIL FOR THE DEALERSHIP WITH NO RETURN PHONE CALL. ON MARCH 1ST, THE VEHICLE STALLED WHILE DRIVING AGAIN. I PULLED OFF THE ROAD AND STOPPED UNTIL THE VEHICLE QUIT TRYING TO ACCELERATE. I WAS DRIVING ON SNOW/ICE AND IT SCARED THE HECK OUT OF ME; I WAS LUCKY NOT TO WRECK BECAUSE I HIT THE BRAKES TO COUNTER THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION WHICH CAUSED ME TO SLIDE. THE VEHICLE DID THE SAME THING THE NEXT DAY WHILE TRAVELING AT A CONSTANT SPEED OF 45, AND AGAIN ON FEBRUARY 24TH AND TODAY, FEBRUARY 25TH. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 DODGE DURANGO. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED A BURNING SMELL UNDER THE HOOD OF THE VEHICLE. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE STALLED AND THE BATTERY WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ALTERNATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V634000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 31,800.
WHILE DRIVING AT 70MPH ON A FLAT ROAD (81 SOUTH IN VIRGINIA) IN THE RAIN, THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AND GPS WENT DEAD. THE DIALS ALL WENT DOWN TO ZERO, THE COMPUTER READ-OUT IN THE CENTER CLUSTER WENT BLACK, AND THE GPS WENT BLACK. AT THE SAME TIME, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER (AND SPEED) BUT DID NOT STALL. AFTER ONLY A FEW SECONDS THE DIALS STARTED WORKING AGAIN, THE COMPUTER READ-OUT IN THE CENTER CLUSTER CAME BACK ON, AND THE GPS TURNED BACK ON. ALSO, THE POWER CAME BACK AND I REGAINED MY SPEED. THE POWER OUTAGE CLEARED MY TRIP ODOMETER READINGS AND CLEARED TO ZERO AND MY GPS SAVED SETTINGS, SUCH AS HOME AND ADDRESS BOOK, WERE CLEARED. I DID NOT APPLY THE BRAKES AND THERE WAS NO CRASH. THERE HAVE BEEN SPORADIC LOSSES OF POWER SINCE AND MY INSTRUMENT DIALS FLICKER, HOWEVER THEY HAVE NOT GONE OUT TOTALLY LIKE THEY DID JANUARY 23RD. DAYS BEFORE THE INCIDENT, I HAD TAKEN MY VEHICLE TO A LOCAL DODGE DEALERSHIP FOR RECALL WORK ON THE FUEL PUMP. *TR
