TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, AN ABNORMAL NOISE EMITTED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE CALIPER WAS JAMMED ON THE ROTOR. AS A RESULT, BOTH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED ON TWO OTHER OCCASIONS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
LAST SUNDAY, 11/7/10, WE WERE RETURNING FROM VACATION (200 MILES FROM HOME) AND NOTICED THE AIR PRESSURE WAS LOW IN OUR L FRONT TIRE OF OUR 2008 GRAND CARAVAN SXT (VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH TPMS AIR SENSORS). WE STOPPED AT A NJ GAS STATION TO FILL THE TIRE WHEN THE VALVE STEM SNAPPED OFF - INSTANTLY RELEASING ALL THE AIR FROM THE TIRE. WE HAD TO PUT ON THE SPARE AND PROCEEDED TO LOOK FOR A PLACE TO REPLACE THE BROKEN VALVE STEM. WE DID FIND ONE SERVICE STATION OPEN ON THE NJ TURNPIKE, BUT THEY STATED THAT THEY COULD NOT PUT IN A STANDARD VALVE STEM AS IT WOULD REQUIRE A CHRYSLER PART. (AS I MENTIONED EARLIER, IT WAS SUNDAY AM.) TO OUR DISMAY, WE HAD TO "LIMP" HOME ON THE "DONUT" WHICH ENTAILED TRAVELING ON SEVERAL MAJOR INTERSTATE. OUR CONCERN IS THE SAFETY FACTOR. WE HAVE NOW NOTICED ON THE INTERNET FORUMS THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH THESE ALUMINUM VALVE STEMS AS THERE ARE MULTIPLE REPORTS OF THIS OCCURRING AT APPROXIMATELY 25K-40K MILES. (OUR VEHICLE HAS 43K.) AFTER RETURNING HOME, I CONTACTED A LOCAL DODGE DEALER AND THEY ARE ALSO AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND HAD TO ORDER THE PART. THURSDAY, 11/11/10, I HAD THE BROKEN VALVE STEM/SENSOR REPLACED ($92.34) AND ASKED FOR THE BROKEN VALVE STEM/SENSOR WHICH WAS GIVEN TO US. WHEN ASKED, THE SERVICE PERSON SAID THAT THE REPLACEMENT PART HAS NOT BEEN MODIFIED TO KEEP THIS FROM OCCURRING AGAIN - EXCEPT FOR A PLASTIC CAP (WHICH, BY THE WAY, THE FIRST ONE HAD). *TR
APPROXIMATELY 20,000 MILES FRONT BRAKE RECALL LETTER RECEIVED, TOOK TO LOCAL DEALER AND REPAIRS MADE. AT 23,000 MILE REAR LEFT LOCKED, TOTAL REPLACEMENT AT THE COST OF $299.29 TO REPAIR ONE BRAKE, ROTOR AND CALIPER. VERY DISAPPOINTED, WAS INFORMED BY DEALER REPAIRMAN THAT THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL FOR THE REARS SOON. TOLD TO KEEP RECEIPT FOR REIMBURSEMENT. *TR
DRIVING AT RANDOM TIMES, SPEEDS, ETC, THE LIGHTS WOULD SUDDENLY FLASH, WIPERS TURN ON HIGH, WIPER FLUID COME OUT AND THE HORN WOULD HONK. SOMETIMES THIS WOULD LAST ONLY 2-3 SECONDS, SOMETIMES UP TO 10 MIUNTES. TURNING THE KEY OFF AND THEN BACK ON WOULD NOT CLEAR THE PROBLEM. TAKEN TO DEALER IN NOVEMBER 2010. THEY RE-FLASHED THE PCM AND THE ISSUE DISAPPEARED FOR 12 MONTHS. PROBLEMS RESUMED IN NOVEMBER 2011. TAKEN TO DEALER. COULD NOT DIAGNOSE AND DECIDED TO CHANGE AN ACCESSORY CONTROL MODULE. SITUATION CAUSES VERY UNSAFE OPERATING CONDITION BY DISTRACTING DRIVER, OBSCURING DRIVERS VIEW, DISTRACTING OTHER DRIVERS, CAUSING SIGHT PROBLEMS FOR ONCOMING DRIVERS WITH UNCONTROLLED ILLUMINATION OF LIGHTING. *KB
I BOUGHT A USED 2008 DODGE CARAVAN WITH 34,000 MILES ON IT. THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE BRAKES AND ROTORS AT 38,000, CARMAX NEVER TOLD ME THAT. I ENDED UP REPLACING MY ROTORS TWICE SINCE NOV 2010 AND MY BRAKES 4 DIFFERENT TIMES. I SENT DODGE CHRYSLER A LETTER WITH MY INVOICES FOR REFUND WITH NO RESPONSE. AND NOW AGAIN DODGE IS TELLING ME THAT I NEED TO REPLACE THE ROTORS AND BRAKES. I DON'T HAVE THE MONEY, AND I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO CONTINUE TO PAY FOR THIS. I DRIVE A SPECIAL NEEDS DAUGHTER AND TWO SONS IN THIS VAN AND FEEL IT IS UNSAFE BUT ITS THE ONLY CAR WE HAVE AND NO ONE WILL HELP US. THANK YOU *TR
2008 DODGE CARAVAN TIRE VALVE STEM FAILURE, VALVE STEM BROKE OFF DURING ADDING AIR TO TIRE. TOLD BY DEALERSHIP THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THESE TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR VALVE STEMS ON DODGE CARAVANS. IN MY ENTIRE HISTORY OF OWNING VEHICLES I HAVE NEVER ENCOUNTERED THIS PROBLEM. TO ME LOOKS LIKE EITHER A DESIGN OR MATERIAL PROBLEM THAT CAUSED THE VALVE STEM TO CRACK. *TR
2008 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN 32K MILES FRONT BRAKES WERE SQUEAKING SO WE TOOK IT TO LOCAL DODGE DEALER. SAID THE FRONT ROTORS AND PADS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THIS CAR IS NEW AND THE FIRST BRAKE JOB NEEDS ROTORS? WE PAID FOR IT AND LATER DODGE SENT OUT A REIMBURSEMENT LETTER IN THE SUMMER TO PAY HALF OF THE COSTS. I WONDER IF THEY PUT THE SAME JUNK ROTORS BACK ON? NOW, 6K MILES LATER THE FRONT RIGHT BRAKE SQUEALS LIKE THE PAD IS LOW BUT THE DEALER SAID IT IS OK AND THAT IS "NORMAL". IT IS NOT NORMAL TO HEAR A GRINDING PAD ON ROTOR SOUND WHEN THE PAD IS GOOD! THE ONLY THING HE SAID THEY COULD DO WOULD BE TO RESURFACE THE ROTOR AND PUT STOP SQUEAL ON THE PAD. IT WOULD COST AROUND 120.00 BUCKS. POOR PARTS ARE OBVIOUSLY ON THIS CAR...I WILL NOT BUY ANOTHER DODGE OR SUGGEST ANYONE DO SO. OTHER PROBLEMS WITH THIS NEW CAR SO FAR ARE: 1. WHEN FIRST BOUGHT, TRANS FLUID LEAK, WARRANTY FIXED THAT. 2. ROTORS AND PADS ON FRONT (AS DESCRIBED ABOVE), REIMBURSED FOR HALF 3. NOW AT 38K MILES, THE FRONT LEFT WHEEL BEARING IS BAD, HAVE TO REPLACE, 220.00 DOLLARS, I AM TALKING TO CHRYSLER TO SEE IF THEY WILL PAY FOR OR NOT. TWO DEALERS AND TWO REPAIR SHOPS CANNOT GET THIS PART FOR A WEEK TO A MONTH, THEY ARE ON BACKORDER. *TR
2008 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. CONSUMER STATES RAPID DECELERATION *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED WHILE DRIVING WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ACTIVATED, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY DOWN SHIFTED TO WHAT HE BELIEVED WAS THIRD GEAR. THE BRAKING EFFECT OF THE LOWER GEAR CAUSED A SUBSTANTIAL INCREASE IN THE ENGINE SPEED TO AROUND THE RED LINE AREA. THE RAPID ACCELERATION LASTED ABOUT FIVE SECONDS AND THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS DISENGAGED AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE. THE CONSUMER STATED THE SAME INCIDENT HAPPENED THREE WEEKS PRIOR. ACCORDING TO THE DEALER, IT WAS A NORMAL OPERATION OF THE VEHICLE CALLED INTERACTIVE CRUISE CONTROL AND IT WAS MORE NOTICEABLE DUE TO THE VEHICLE HAVING A 6 SPEED TRANSMISSION AND THE VEHICLE WOULD UP AND DOWN SHIFT MORE TO KEEP THE VEHICLE AT ITS SET SPEED. *JB
SAME OCCURRENCE HAPPENED 4 TIMES IN 6 MONTHS, DEALER WAS NOT ABLE TO DIAGNOSE PROBLEM. WHILE DRIVING ON THE FWY IN THE FAST LANE AT NIGHT, THE WIPERS GO OFF WASHER FLUID SPRAYING, ALL LIGHTS FLASHING, HORN BLARING, TRANSMISSION DISENGAGED FROM GAS PEDAL, AFTER MANAGING TO PULL OVER TOOK KEY OUT OF IGNITION AND CAR WAS STILL RUNNING. MANANGED TO GET CAR TO THE DEALER NEXT DAY AND THEY SAID THEY CANNOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM, I TOOK MY CAR HOME AND AGAIN SAME INCIDENT. I WAS UPSET AND DROVE THE CAR WITH THESE SYMPTOMS HAPPENING TO THE DEALER AND THEY WITNESSED THE ISSUE, THE TECHNICIAN PULLED OUT ALL THE FUSES FROM THE FUSE BOX JUST TO SHUT THE CAR UP. STILL COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM. FINALLY AFTER THE 4TH TIME THE ISSUE WAS ISOLATED TO A TIPM MODULE WHICH CHRYSLER FACTORY SAID THE PART WAS ON BACK ORDER FOR 4 TO 6 WEEKS AND OTHER DEALERS DO NOT WANT TO SELL THIS PARTICULAR PART TO OTHER DEALERS ( GOT ME THINKING WHY ). CHRYSLER SELLS GOOD CARS BUT DOES NOT STAND BEHIND THE SAFETY OF THEM. IF ANYONE ELSE HAS A TIPM PROBLEM THEIR LIVES ARE AT RISK JUST AS MINE AND MY FAMILIES WAS. THE DEALER FINALLY GOT THE PART AFTER 4 WEEKS, AND SO FAR I PRAY THAT MY CAR IS SAFE. *KB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN THE RESIDENCE DRIVEWAY. WHEN THE IGNITION WAS STARTED THE GEAR WAS SHIFTED INTO PARK. THE CONTACT EXITED THE VEHICLE AND UNEXPECTEDLY THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO ROLL APPROXIMATELY TWENTY FEET AT APPROXIMATELY 3 MPH, CRASHING INTO THE FRONT OF A GARAGE. THERE WERE DAMAGES TO THE FRONT BUMPER AND THE GARAGE. THERE WAS NO PERSONAL INJURY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED FOR THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 64,740.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 DODGE CARAVAN. WHILE TRAVELING 10 MPH THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE WINDSHIELD WIPER, HEADLIGHTS, DOOR LOCK MECHANISM, AND HORN ALL SIMULTANEOUSLY TURNED ON WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THE CONTACT HAD THE WIRING HARNESS REPLACED ON THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE DOOR; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR. THERE WERE NO PRIOR WARNINGS. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 62000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING OVER AN UNEVEN ROAD SURFACE APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE RESTARTED IMMEDIATELY AND RESUMED IN OPERATION. THE FAILURE RECURRED FOUR TIMES WHEN ENCOUNTERING A SMALL BUMP IN THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.
MY HEADLIGHTS (BOTH HIGH BEAM AND LOW BEAM) WILL TURN OFF WHILE I AM DRIVING AT NIGHT. IT CAN ALSO HAPPEN IN THE DAYTIME, BUT I NOTICE IT AT NIGHT. SOMETIMES THEY WILL JUST GO OFF FOR A FEW SECONDS AND SOMETIMES THEY WILL TURN OFF AND STAY OFF. WHEN THEY TURN OFF AND STAY OFF I HAVE TO PULL OVER (WHICH CAN BE HARD IN THE DARK WITH NO HEADLIGHTS). STOP THE CAR AND TURN OFF THE CAR. THEN WHEN I RESTART THE CAR THE HEADLIGHTS WILL WORK AGAIN AT LEAST FOR AWHILE. SOMETIMES THIS HAPPENS SEVERAL TIMES A NIGHT AND OTHER TIMES IT WON'T HAPPEN FOR DAYS OR EVEN WEEKS. THE PROBLEM FIRST STARTED HAPPENING ABOUT A YEAR AGO WITH APPROXIMATELY 50,000 MILES ON THE CAR. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER, BUT THEY CAN'T FIND A PROBLEM. *TR
MY 2008 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN HAS THE 'CHECK AIRBAG' LIGHT ON AFTER ONLY 60,000 MILES. FROM SEARCHING ONLINE, DODGE HAS RECALLED THIS EXACT PROBLEM (SPRING IN STEERING COLUMN) PREVIOUSLY. I FEEL THAT THERE IS STILL A DEFECT IN THEIR MANUFACTURING AND THIS SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER RECALL. I'VE NEVER HEARD ANYONE SAYING THAT HAD AIRBAG PROBLEMS WITH A VEHICLE EXCEPT DODGE!!!! THIS IS THE 3RD MAJOR PROBLEM WITH THIS NEW VEHICLE AND I'M AFRAID TO KEEP PUTTING MONEY INTO WHAT COULD TURN OUT TO BE A LEMON! *TR
MY 2008 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN AT 60,000 MILES IS ALREADY NEEDING THE FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS REPLACED. I CAN SEE ONLINE THAT SEVERAL PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. ONE OTHER OWNER REPORTS COMPARING THE BEARINGS THAT WERE ORIGINALLY ON THE VEHICLE TO THE REPLACEMENT PART AND NOTING THAT THE REPLACEMENT PART IS NOTABLY BETTER MADE. THIS ANGERS ME IN THAT IT IS NOT THE ONLY PROBLEM I'VE HAD WITH THIS NEWER VEHICLE. I'M NOT SURE WHAT TYPE OF SAFETY HAZARD THIS CREATES, BUT I CANNOT AFFORD $500 TO REPLACE IT, AFTER HAVING JUST SPENT $500 TO REPLACE THE BRAKES. I FEEL THAT DODGE SHOULD HONOR REPLACING THE WHEEL BEARINGS AS A VEHICLE RECALL! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 11V394000 (AIR BAGS), 14V373000 (AIR BAGS, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM), 10V235000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM), AND 10V611000 (EQUIPMENT) HOWEVER STATED THAT THE PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE WITHIN A REASONABLE TIMEFRAME TO SCHEDULE THE RECALL REPAIR. TWO DEALERS WERE CONTACTED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WAS A LONG WAITING LIST. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND COULD NOT PROVIDE AN ESTIMATED DATE FOR WHEN THE CONTACTS VEHICLE WOULD RECEIVE THE RECALL REPAIR. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
2008 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN WITH 27,000 MILES ON IT NEEDS TO HAVE ALL FOUR SETS OF BRAKE PADS AND FRONT ROTORS REPLACED FOR THE SECOND TIME. THE FRONT PADS HAVE WERE REPLACED 13,000 MILES AGO AND HAVE ALREADY WORN DOWN SO FAR THAT THEY ARE CUTTING GROOVES INTO THE ROTORS. I AM A PROFESSIONAL MECHANIC AND HAVE NEVER SEEN BRAKES WEAR OUT IN 12,000 MILES. DODGE REFUSES TO REPLACE THE BRAKES CITING THAT THEY ARE WEAR ITEMS. THEY SHOULD WEAR OUT IN 50,000 MILES, NOT 12,000. I FEEL THAT THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM AS EVEN WHEN NEW, THE BRAKES ARE SERIOUSLY UNDER ENGINEERED. I HAVE TO PRESS THE PEDAL ALMOST TO THE FLOOR FOR NORMAL STOPS AND IN THE EVENT OF PANIC STOPS, I HAVE HAD MORE THAN ENOUGH NEAR MISSES WHERE THE VAN JUST DIDN'T STOP IN TIME AND I WOUND UP OFF THE ROAD ON THE SHOULDER. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, SHE NOTICED THAT THE TIRE BLEW OUT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO INFORMED HER THAT THE TIE ROD WAS WORN AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE LOCAL PRIVATE REPLACED ALL FOUR TIE RODS. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WERE NO RELATED RECALLS AND DID NOT OFFER ANY ADDITIONAL ASSISTANCE. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED HER TO CALL NHTSA AND FILE A COMPLAINT. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 56,675 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 52,147.
WHEN TOOK VEHICLE IN FOR A REPLACEMENT WHEEL BEARING HUB ASSEMBLY, WAS INFORMED BY MECHANIC THAT AN ADDITIONAL WHEEL BEARING WAS ALSO BAD AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AS WELL. THE VEHICLE WAS MAKING LOW PITCHED NOISE AT ABOUT 40 MPH+ AND SHAKING UPON BRAKING. MECHANIC SAID THAT IT WAS UNUSUAL TO SEE WHEEL BEARINGS GO AT LESS THAN ABOUT 80,000 MILES. CALLED CHRYSLER, SAID EVEN WITH FULL POWERTRAIN WARRANTY, THESE WHEEL BEARINGS WOULD NOT BE COVERED, SHOULD HAVE PURCHASED EXTENDED WARRANTIES. *TR
WHEN KEY IS INSERTED INTO THE IGNITION AND TURNED, THE VEHICLE DOES NOT START. THE STARTER MAKES A CLICK SOUND BUT DOES NOT TURN OVER. SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TURNING THE KEY ARE NEEDED TO START THE VEHICLE. SOMETIMES AFTER TRYING 5-10 TRIES WITH NO START, PULLING THE KEY OUT AND REINSERTING WILL START THE VEHICLE. EVENTUALLY, THE CAR WILL START NORMALLY. THE BATTERY HAS BEEN CHECKED AND FULLY CHARGED DURING ALL INCIDENTS. THIS HAS HAPPENED APPROXIMATELY 20 DIFFERENT TIMES OVER THE LAST 5 MONTHS. IT HAS BEEN BROUGHT TO THE DEALER TWICE FOR THIS ISSUE THE DEALER HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO REPRODUCE THE FAILURE. RECENTLY, THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN OCCURRING MORE FREQUENTLY. THIS NOT A SAFE FEELING NOT KNOWING THAT MAYBE THE NEXT TIME, I WILL BE STRANDED. FRUSTRATING SINCE THERE IS A KNOWN PROBLEM BUT THE DEALER WILL NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. IT WAS BROUGHT IN 10/12/2010 AND 3/28/2011. SINCE THE LAST VISIT, THE PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED 3 DIFFERENT TIMES.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER CONTROL COMPUTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE REMEDY FAILED TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 26,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 55,000.
GOING ON MY 3RD SET OF BRAKES AT 32K MILES. DODGE SERVICE CENTER SAID THEY KNEW OF THIS BEING A PROBLEM ON ALL GRAND CARAVANS 2008 AND LATER. TOLD ME I WAS OUT OF WARRANTY . AT THIS RATE I WILL HAVE OVER $3000 IN BRAKES IN LESS THAN 4 YRS. NEED TO BE A RECALL FOR A LONGER LASTING BRAKE. THIS IS TO DANGEROUS AND COSTLY FOR THE OWNER AND MOTHERS WHO DRIVE THEIR CHILDREN. *TR
2008 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. 90,000 MILES ON VEHICLE. HEARD A GRINDING NOISE COMING FROM REAR WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED. INVESTIGATED AND FOUND BOTH REAR WHEELS, INSIDE DISCS PADS WERE COMPLETELY WORN. OUTSIDE PADS WERE STILL GOOD. REPLACED PADS AND ROTORS. BELIEVE ITS THE DESIGN OF THE CALIPERS, NEVER SEEN CALIPER PISTONS THAT TURNED OUT WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED. IN AUG, 2010 ON A RETURN TRIP FROM FLORIDA, THE REAR BRAKE CALIPERS FROZE , WOULD NOT RELEASE, CAUSING THE REAR BRAKES TO OVERHEAT, CAUSING REAR BRAKE FAILURE. REPAIR OF THE REAR BRAKES COST APROX.$ 580.00. A COMPLAINT TO CHRYSLER CORP. WAS INITIATED, AND THEY REIMBURSED A TOTAL OF$280.00. I WAS TOLD BY 2 DEALERS THAT THERE HAS BEEN AN ABNORMAL AMOUNT OF PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKE CALIPERS ON THE CHRYSLER/DODGE VANS. SINCE WE WERE TRANSPORTING OXYGEN THAT MY WIFE NEEDS FOR MEDICAL PURPOSES A FIRE OR OTHER FAILURE OF THE REAR BRAKES, IE FIRE, SEIZING OF THE BRAKES CAUSING A WRECK, OR BEING DISABLED ON THE HIGHWAY, MILES FROM A REPAIR FACILITY COULD HAVE HAD SERIOUS RESULTS. AT THE PRESENT TIME THE ONLY REMAINING CALIPER HAS FAILED, FROZE TO THE ROTOR, AND IS IN NEED OF REPAIR WHICH HAS BEEN SCHEDULED AT A NON DEALER SHOP. THE COST HAS BEEN ESTIMATED AT $100.00. WHEN KEY IS INSERTED INTO THE IGNITION AND TURNED, THE VEHICLE DOES NOT START. THE STARTER MAKES A CLICK SOUND BUT DOES NOT TURN OVER. SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TURNING THE KEY ARE NEEDED TO START THE VEHICLE. SOMETIMES AFTER TRYING 5-10 TRIES WITH NO START, PULLING THE KEY OUT AND REINSERTING OR OPENING THE DRIVER DOOR WITH THE KEY REMOVED WILL START THE VEHICLE. EVENTUALLY, THE CAR WILL START NORMALLY. FIRST IT SEEMED TO HAPPEN ON AFTER THE ENGINE WAS HOT OR HOT OUTSIDE 85 OR HOTTER, BUT IT GOT WORSE. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER, I TOLD THEM I CHECKED THE STARTER SOLENOID AND IT WASN'T READING 12 VOLTS WHEN VAN WOULDN'T START ONLY READING UNDER 5 VOLTS, WHEN THE VAN WOULD START IT WOULD READ ABOUT 10 VOLTS. THE FIRST TRIP TO THE DEALER THEY REPLACED A STARTER MOTOR, WITH IN TWO DAYS IT HAPPENED AGAIN, THEY REPLACED THE STARTER MOTOR AGAIN WITH MOPER BRAND STARTER MOTOR. THIS STILL DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. I SWITCH THE BATTERY WITH MY OTHER CAR TO CONFIRM NOT BATTERY. STILL VAN HAS STARTING PROBLEMS. I WAS ABLE TO LEAVE VAN WITH DEALER FOR A WEEK, THEY COULDN'T REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM, BUT WHEN I GOT IN THE VAN ALL THE ELECTRONICS WERE TURNED OFF, RADIO, AC.. THAT WAS NOT AN ACCURATE TEST. THE VAN STILL HAS INTERMITTENT STARTING PROBLEMS. WHEN WINTER CAME THE STARTING PROBLEMS STOPPED. BUT THIS SPRING AND SUMMER IS ALMOST HERE THE STARTING PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED AGAIN. THE TIRE VALVE STEM MADE OF A SINGLE PIECE OF ALUMINUM CORRODES AT THE BASE OF THE THREADS AT THE END OF THE PLASTIC CAP. THIS LEADS TO THE SUDDEN RELEASE OF AIR AND CAN HAPPEN WHILE DRIVING ORWHEN HANDLING THE TIRE VALVE, E.G. WHEN ADDING AIR TO THE TIRE. THIS HAS NOW HAPPENED TO ME TWICE, ONCE WHILE I WAS DRIVING, AND ONCE SOON AFTER ADDING AIR TO THE TIRE. THE TIRE WAS DAMAGED IN THE FIRST INCIDENT AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE SECOND TIME I FOUND THE VALVE PIECE HANGING INSIDE THE CAP A WEEK AFTER I HAD ADDED AIR TO THE TIRES. UPON CONTINUED INSPECTION OF THESE VALVE STEMS I HAVE FOUND ANOTHER ONE THAT IS CRACKED. I AM AN ENGINEER AND UP TILL RECENTLY WAS IN THE AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY. THE DESIGN OF THE VALVE AND MATERIAL SELECTION OR MANUFACTURING IS FLAWED. THIS VEHICLE IS USED BY MY WIFE TO CARRY MY KIDS AND THEIR FRIENDS. I WILL NOT REPLACE THIS FLAWED DESIGN WITH ANOTHER EQUALLY FLAWED REPLACEMENT AND HAVE GONE TO USING NON-TPMS VALVES THAT UTILIZE A FLEXIBLE RUBBER STEM AND THREADED BRASS END. I AM WILLING TO GO BACK TO A TPMS VALVE IF THE DESIGN IS CORRECTED. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. THE CONTACT STATED THE REAR CALIPERS BEGAN TO HEAT UP AND THE REAR WHEELS ALSO LOCKED. THE TREAD CAME OFF OF BOTH TIRES BECAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A MECHANIC WHO STATED THE CALIPERS FAILED AND WERE A MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT. THE MANUFACTURER DID NOT INSPECT THE VEHICLE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN, BUT THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
TAIL LIGHTS HAVE QUIT FLASHING WHEN THE DOORS ARE LOCKED OR UNLOCKED WITH THE REMOTE CONTROLS 32,000 PLUS MILES ON VEHICLE. HEAD LIGHTS STILL WORK WITH REMOTE CONTROL. *TR
I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE POWER DOORS REOPENING THEMSELVES ON THIS VAN. I HAVE HAD ITEMS GET TRAPPED INSIDE OF THE DOORS OF THIS VAN AS WELL. I CONTACTED THE DEALER ABOUT IT AND OF COURSE COULD NOT GET IT TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. I HAD ALSO SAID SOMETHING ABOUT PROBLEMS WITH THE ACCELERATOR BEING SLUGGISH IN RESPONSE AND THE DEALER SAID THEY COULDN'T GET IT TO DUPLICATE THAT PROBLEM EITHER. THEY SAID IT WAS JUST THE COMPUTER TAKING A LITTLE LONGER TO RESPOND TO THE ACCELERATOR WHICH I FEEL IS A SAFETY HAZARD. I HAVE ALSO HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE OVERHEAD CONSOLE COMING DOWN WHEN THE REAR DOOR IS SHUT. I DID NOT REALIZE IT HAD COME DOWN ONE TIME AND I CLIMBED INTO THE BACK AREA AND HIT MY HEAD ON THE PLASTIC PART WHICH CAUSED A SEVERE CUT TO MY HEAD AND TOOK A WHILE FOR THE BLEEDING TO STOP. I SHOWED THE DEALER THE PROBLEM AND THEY SAID OH THAT'S A PLASTIC PIECE SO IF YOU WANT THAT TO BE RIGHT YOU HAVE TO PAY YOURSELF TO HAVE IT FIXED BECAUSE ITS CONSIDERED "NORMAL WEAR". I FEEL THAT THESE ARE ALL SEVERE SAFETY ISSUES WITH THESE VEHICLES. *TR
