AFTER CONTACTING THE DEALER ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE PARTS NEEDED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE WERE STILL NOT AVAILABLE AND NO ESTIMATED TIME FOR RECEIVING THE PARTS COULD BE PROVIDED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2009 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED SMOKE RISING FROM THE ENGINE. WHEN THE CONTACT PULLED THE VEHICLE INTO THE DRIVEWAY, IT CAUGHT FIRE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FLAMES. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE SUSTAINED FIRE DAMAGE. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED TO A SALVAGE YARD. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000. THE VEHICLE WAS STRUCK BY LIGHTNING JULY 2014 WHEN IT WAS PARKED UNDER A TREE DURING A BAD STORM. IT EVENTUALLY WAS DECLARED A TOTAL LOSS BY PROGRESSIVE INSURANCE AFTER THEY ATTEMPTED SEVERAL TIMES TO HAVE ALL THE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS REPAIRED. SEVERAL TIMES THEY REPAIRED IT AND PUT ME BACK INTO THE DANGEROUS VEHICLE WHICH WAS ACCELERATING ON ITS OWN AND SEVERAL TIMES WOULD NOT BRAKE. I INSISTED THEY DECLARE IT A TOTAL LOSS BEFORE SOMETHING TERRIBLE WOULD HAPPEN. THEY FINALLY AGREED IN OCTOBER 2014. HOWEVER, MY CONCERN IS THAT I WAS TOLD THE VEHICLE WAS SOLD AT AUCTION AND THAT PUTS SOMEONE ELSE IN DANGER. THE VEHICLE SHOULD NOT OF BEEN HANDED OVER TO SOMEONE ELSE.

THE AC DRAIN LEAKS WATER UNDER THE DASH WHEN THE AC IS ON AND MAY AFFECT THE AIR BAG WIRING OR OTHER ELECTRICAL FUNCTIONS. THIS PROBLEM WAS IDENTIFIED IN 2011, BULLETIN K31, BUT MY VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. I HAVE THE SAME MAKE, MODEL, YEAR AND PROBLEM AS THE RECALLED CARS. WHY IS MY CAR NOT INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL?? I HAVE STRUGGLED WITH THIS RECURRING ISSUE SINCE 2014!!!

WHEN THE VEHICLE IS COLD, AND AFTER I START DRIVING, IF I DO NO HAVE MY FOOT ON THE ACCELERATOR, THE ENGINE WILL JUST DIE. WHEN IT DOES, THERE ARE NO WARNING LIGHTS GO ON AND THE STEERING BECOMES COMPLETELY UNRESPONSIVE. I MUST QUICKLY PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND START IT AGAIN. IT CAN HAPPEN MULTIPLE TIMES BEFORE THE ENGINE WARMS UP. IT CAN JUST HAPPEN GOING DOWN THE ROAD. I HAVE HAD IT TO THE DEALER AND ANOTHER AUTO REPAIR PLACE AND NEITHER CAN FIGURE OUT WHAT IS WRONG. HOWEVER, WHEN HE CONTACTED THE DEALER TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT, HE WAS INFORMED THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE. THE CONSUMER CONTACTED THE DEALER ON JANUARY 15, 2015, AND AGAIN HE WAS INFORMED THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE. *JB

DURING THE CRASH, THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE BUT THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. DRIVING 45 MPH AND VEHICLE SHUT OFF LOSING POWER STEERING AND BRAKES. NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. PULLED OVER AND RESTARTED. HAPPENED AGAIN TWICE 2 DAYS LATER. THOUGHT IT WAS BAD GAS. FILLED UP AND ADDED HEAT. SEEMED TO BE OK FOR ABOUT 10 DAYS, BUT STILL WAS RUNNING HARSH. ENGINE SHUT OFF AGAIN 5/20 AND THEN AGAIN ON 5/21. DID SEE BRIEFLY A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON ONE OF THE OCCURRENCES OTHERWISE NO CLUES. HAD ALREADY FILLED UP TWICE SO RULED OUT GAS. TOOK IT TO MECHANIC AND THE ONLY CODE HE COULD PULL UP WAS THE EGR VALVE AND MAYBE THE SPARK PLUGS, BUT COULDN'T GUARANTEE THAT WAS THE CAUSE. REPLACED PLUGS AND VALVE AND SO FAR THE ENGINE HAS NOT SHUT OFF AND THAT INCLUDES ONE 1000 MILE RT, AND TWO 200 MILE RTS SINCE THEN, BUT I'M STILL NOT TOTALLY CONVINCED. HOWEVER AFTER READING ABOUT ALL THE COMPLAINTS ABOUT ENGINES SHUTTING OFF, I THOUGHT I BETTER LOG THIS FOR THE SAFETY OF OTHERS AND THE EXPENSE I PAID TO REPLACE THE EGR AND SPARK PLUGS. *TR

THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE IGNITION ACCIDENTALLY SWITCHED FROM THE "RUN" POSITION TO "ACCESSORY" CAUSING THE ENGINE TO SHUT OFF. THIS HAPPENED WHILE IN A PARKING LOT. I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT 70 MILES AN HOUR, AND ALL OF A SUDDEN MY CAR SHUTS OFF AND TURNS BACK ON AND COULD NOT STEER FOR A FEW MINS, AND IT WOULD NOT GO OVER 45 MILES AN HOUR, EVERY THING SHUT OFF IN THE CAR, IT HAPPENED AGAIN, IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. 2009 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN - DALLAS, TX WHILE PULLING OUT OF A PARKING LOT INTO THE MIDDLE MEDIAN TO MERGE WITH TRAFFIC THE VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER. THE ENGINE DIED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FREEWAY AND THE STEERING AND BRAKES FAILED TO WORK. THE VEHICLE HAS HAD THIS INCIDENT OCCUR 3 TIMES IN 2014 EACH TIME RESULTING IN THE SAME OUTCOME, ENGINE DIES, STEERING IS LOST DUE TO NO POWER STEERING AND BRAKES FAIL. IN EACH INCIDENT I WAS TRAVELING AT THE SPEED LIMIT AND RESULTED IN SEVERE LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE RESULTING IN MUSCLING THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AS IT COAST WHILE QUICKLY THROWING THE GEARS IN NEUTRAL ALL AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THESE INCIDENTS ARE NOT ISOLATED TO THE MORE THAN 260 COMPLAINTS OVER THE LAST 11 YEARS ABOUT GENERAL MOTORS VEHICLES THAT SUDDENLY TURNED OFF WHILE BEING DRIVEN. THIS IS CLEARLY THE SAME ISSUE AND WILL RESULT IN MORE DEATHS OR SEVER INJURY IF OUR REGULATORS DO NOT TAKE ACTION. TAKING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AFTER EACH INCIDENT ONLY RESULTED IN THE DEALER FINDING NO TROUBLE CODES AND BEING UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM RELEASING THE VEHICLE BACK INTO MY CARE TO DRIVE IN ITS IMPAIRED CONDITION. THE AIR BAG MONITORING LIGHT ON THE DASH CAME ON AND STAYS ON WHEN EVER VEHICLE IN RUNNING. *TR
WHILE OPERATING OUR 2009 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN SE AT APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH THE REAR DRIVERS SIDE TIRE'S VALVE STEM ON THE TIRE FAILED (OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY 45 SECONDS AFTER CONCLUDING HIGHWAY DRIVING). THE NUT HOLDING THE VALVE STEM ON APPEARS TO HAVE BROKEN CAUSING THE SENSOR TO FALL INTO THE TIRE AND RESULTED IN THE TIRE DEFLATING IMMEDIATELY. THIS IS THE THIRD SENSOR FAILURE ON THE VEHICLE. FORTUNATELY THE FIRST TWO OCCURRED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY - AIRING UP TIRES CAUSED THE STEMS TO BREAK IN HALF. A CALL TO THE GENERAL DODGE CUSTOMER SERVICE STATED THAT THEY HAD NEVER HEARD OF THIS ISSUE OCCURRING. A CALL TO MY DEALERSHIP STATED THAT THEY REPLACE THE TPMS SENSORS "EVERYDAY" DUE TO FAILURES AND THEN PROCEEDED TO QUOTE ME $200+ FOR A SENSOR REPLACEMENT WHICH INCLUDED "PROGRAMMING" THE SENSOR WHICH ISN'T EVEN NECESSARY ON THIS VEHICLE. DODGE DEALERSHIP HAD STATED THAT SEVERAL OTHER VEHICLES IN THEIR LINEUP HAVE SWITCHED OVER TO TPMS SENSORS USING RUBBER VALVE STEMS. THESE ARE NOT AVAILABLE FOR OUR YEAR GRAND CARAVAN. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED ON AN INCLINE, FACING UP, AND PUT IN PARK. THE DRIVER EXITED THE VEHICLE AND THEN REACHED BACK IN TO TURN OFF AND REMOVE THE KEYS. THE VEHICLE STARTED TO ROLL BACK DOWN THE DRIVE, HITTING TWO OTHER VEHICLES BEFORE THE DRIVER, WHO WAS HIT BY THE OPEN DOOR, COULD GET BACK IN THE VEHICLE AND APPLY THE BRAKES. AT 65 MPH ON A SMOOTH 4 LANE HIGHWAY WITH CRUIZE CONTROL ON ALL ELECTRICAL , INCLUDING THE DASH INSTRUMENTATION,SUDDENLY WENT OUT AND VAN BEGAN SLOWING DOWN; THEN THE DASH IDIOT LIGHTS FLICKERED FOR A MILLI-SECOND AND POWER RETURNED WITH THE VAN /ENGINE RUNNING; THEN AFTER A FEW HUNDRED YARDS, IT REPEATED THE FAILURE AND STAYED ON. THE NEXT DAY I HAD THE DEALER REPLACE THE BATTERY; THEY HAD NEVER HEARD OF SUCH A PROBLEM BUT I FOUND MANY SIMILAR ONES IN AN INTER-NET SEARCH OF "CAR PROBLEMS". I NO LONGER CAN TRUST THE VEHICLE. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A PRESSURE MONITOR SYSTEM AND A TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR FAILURE IN THE REAR. ALSO, THE NUT VALVE STINT WAS CORRODED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SENSOR WAS REPLACED FIVE TIMES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE DOT NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN. THE TIRE AND VEHICLE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 81,725.
