WHILE DRIVING THE 2010 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN IT SUDDENLY STALLS. THERE DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE A REASON BEHIND IT, AT LEAST THE DEALER IS UNABLE TO PINPOINT IT. IT HAS HAPPENED 4 TIMES, WITH THE MOST RECENT BEING JUST AFTER HAVING IT INTO THE DEALER WHERE THEY REPLACED THE BATTERY AND THE BATTERY CABLE AND DID AN OIL CHANGE, WITH A TOTAL COST OF $325. HOWEVER, THEY ALSO SAID IT MAY BE THE MODULE THAT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF OVER $600.00. HOWEVER, THEY APPARENTLY DO NOT KNOW OR JUST TRYING TO RUN UP THE COST OF REPAIRING THE VEHICLE. I SEE A LOT OF OTHERS WHO ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT STALLING PROBLEMS WITH NO SATISFACTION. WHAT IS THE PROBLEM??? THE CAR WILL NOT SWITCH OUT OF FIRST GEAR, COMPUTER SYSTEM CAN'T PIN POINT PROBLEM. HAVE ALREADY SPENT 1300 TO REPAIR ON FIRST MECHANIC, HE COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM. CHARGED 1300 FOR HIS TIME. 2ND MECHANIC HAS HAD THE CAR FOR 6 MONTHS, HE CAN NOT FIND THE PROBLEM EITHER. DODGE HAS NOT BEEN HELPFUL AT AHLL.

WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS (50 DEGREES F, NO RAIN/SNOW), THE OPERATOR NOTICED A SUDDEN AND UNEXPECTED LOSS OF POWER STEERING. UPON SCANNING THE DASH, THE EPS (STABILITY CONTROL) LIGHTS WAS ILLUMINATED. A FEW SECONDS (MAYBE 5 - 15) LATER, THE POWER BREAKING APPEARED TO BE LOST. OPERATOR IS UNSURE IF THESE FUNCTIONS WERE "SIMPLY" LOST, OR IF THE VEHICLE WAS ACTUALLY POWERED DOWN. STEERING AND BREAKING WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO THE EXTENT THAT IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO PHYSICALLY CONTROL THE VEHICLE ENOUGH TO MOVE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITHOUT HITTING ANY OBJECTS. EVEN BRAKING WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO DO WITH SIGNIFICANT FORCE. AFTER GETTING SAFELY ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, THE ENGINE WAS IMMEDIATELY TURNED OFF. A FEW MINUTES LATER, THE CAR WAS RE-STARTED AND APPEARED TO BE FUNCTIONING NORMALLY, ALTHOUGH OPERATOR WAS UNWILLING TO RISK PUTTING CAR INTO "DRIVE". CAR WAS TOWED TO DEALER FOR ANALYSIS. IF THIS HAD HAPPENED AT HIGHER SPEED, OR WHEN A QUICK STOP WAS NECESSARY, A SEVERE CRASH LIKELY WOULD HAVE OCCURRED. *TR

ORIGINAL OWNER OF THE VEHICLE. THIS IS ACTUALLY A REPORT OF 5-6 SEPARATE INCIDENTS OF THE SAME ISSUE WITHIN A WEEK'S SPAN. THE ENGINE OF THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY SHUTS OFF WHILE DRIVING. IT IS INSTANT AND SILENT, WITH NO PRE-WARNING. DRIVER LOSES ALL POWER STEERING / BRAKES DURING THE OCCURRENCE. LAST INCIDENT ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT WHEN THE VEHICLE'S ENGINE STALLED AND A FOLLOWING VEHICLE HAD TO TAKE ACTION TO AVOID A COLLISION. MY WIFE AND KIDS WERE IN THE VAN AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT. WHEN IT HAPPENS, THE VAN ALWAYS STARTS BACK UP, BUT IT HAS TO BE STATIONARY AND IN-PARK. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP ON 01/23/15 FOR REPAIR. DEALERSHIP INDICATED THE EGR VALVE AND TEMPERATURE SENSOR WAS FAULTY AND HAS BEEN A COMMON PROBLEM FOR DECADES. THIS IS THE SECOND TEMPERATURE SENSOR THAT HAS BEEN REPLACED BY THE DEALER. INTERNET SEARCH CONFIRMS MANY ISSUES SUCH AS THIS ARE EVIDENT ON THE ROAD. REPAIR MADE 01/23/15 AT A CONSUMER COST OF $513.41. OUR PURCHASED EXTENDED WARRANTY COVERED ALL OF IT, BUT $150.00. I CONSIDER THE ISSUE, IN REGARD TO A DFMEA FORMAT TO BE, LOSS OF FUNCTION WHICH SHALL BE A SEVERITY OF 10 AND AN INVERTED DELTA BY THE MANUFACTURER. I ASK THAT NHTSA INVESTIGATE THIS ISSUE AS MY FAMILIES WELL BEING WAS AT STAKE THIS MORNING WHICH DOES NOT SIT LIGHTLY WITH ME AS A HUSBAND / FATHER. *TR

THERE IS A RECALL ON THE REAR QUARTER WINDOW SWITCH THAT MAY OVERHEAT . I RECEIVED THE LETTER ON THURSDAY AND BY SUNDAY MY DOOR CAUGHT ON FIRE, NOW NOT ONLY THE SWITCH MUST BE REPLACED AND I SUPPOSE ALL WIRING AND REST OF THE SWITCHES AND THE DOOR INTERIOR PANEL SHOULD BE CHANGE BECAUSE OF DAMAGE. I CALLED THE RECALL CENTER AND AFTER TWO DAYS I'M STILL WAITING FOR A CALL WITH INSTRUCTIONS AS TO WHAT TO DO NOT TO MENTION THE SCARE ME AND MY WIFE GOT AND THE EXPENSES IT WILL COST ME BECAUSE I NEED TO RENT A CAR UNTIL THE ISSUE IS RESOLVED. *TR

WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE IN A RESIDENTIAL AREA AT 20 MPH THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF (ENGINE STOPPED RUNNING, LOST POWER STEERING, LOST POWER BRAKES AND IM GUESSING THE AIR BAGS). IMMEDIATELY CHECKED THE IGNITION AND OBSERVED THE KEY TO BE SECURELY IN THE "ON" POSITION (IT DID NOT MOVE TO THE ACCESSORY POSITION). WAS ABLE TO IMMEDIATELY RESTART VEHICLE. TOOK VEHICLE TO DODGE DEALERSHIP AND THEY DID NOT FIND ANY PROBLEM WITH THE IGNITION. THERE WERE NO ERROR CODES IN THE VEHICLE COMPUTER. DEALERSHIP SUGGESTED REMOVING ALL EXTRA KEYS/KEY RINGS...SO DID SO. APPROXIMATELY 2 WEEKS LATER, WITH ONLY THE CAR KEY SECURELY IN THE IGNITION (NO KEY RINGS, ETC) AGAIN WHILE DRIVING IN A RESIDENTIAL AREA AT 20 MPH THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF (ENGINE STOPPED RUNNING, LOST POWER STEERING, LOST POWER BRAKES AND IM GUESSING THE AIR BAGS) AND ALMOST RAN A STOP SIGN. IMMEDIATELY CHECKED THE IGNITION AND OBSERVED THE KEY TO BE SECURELY IN THE "ON" POSITION (IT DID NOT MOVE TO THE ACCESSORY POSITION). THIS RECURRING ISSUE IS GOING TO RESULT IN A DEATH. WE HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED FROM COLONIAL BEACH, VA TO SAFFORD AUTOMOTIVE IN FREDERICKSBURG, VA TO BE REPAIRED. AFTER DIAGNOSING, THE WIN MODULE WAS FOUND TO BE BAD ALSO BOTH DOOR MODULES FLASHED BAD. WIN MODULE WAS REPLACED AND TWO NEW KEY FOBS HAD TO BE ISSUED AND PROGRAMMED. OUR COST WAS $906.65. THIS ITEM WAS ON THE RECALL LIST BUT WE WERE MADE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET. WE HAVE SPOKEN TO THE DEALER AND THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU BUT HAVE NOT BEEN SUCCESSFUL. WE FEEL IT IS UNFAIR THAT WE WERE MADE TO PAY FOR SOMETHING THAT WAS RECALLED. MY VAN HAS REPEATEDLY STOPPED WHILE DRIVING, APPROXIMATELY 10 TIMES FROM NOVEMBER 2014 TO JANUARY 2, 2014. I LOSE ALL POWER STEERING AND BRAKES WITHOUT WARNING AND HAVE TO CAREFULLY GET MYSELF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AND SCARES ME ESPECIALLY WHEN MY FAMILY IS IN THE VAN WITH ME. IN ALL INSTANCES I HAVE BEEN LUCKY AND HAVE ONLY BEEN GOING 20-40 MPH AND HAS BEEN IN PLACES THAT I'M ABLE TO GET OVER EASILY. THE NEXT TIME I MAY NOT BE SO LUCKY. THEY ALSO COULD NOT SEE ANY CODES THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM. I DID NOT HAVE IT OCCUR AGAIN FOR ALMOST 2 WEEKS IN THE SHOP SO I THOUGHT MAYBE IT WORKED, HOWEVER ON JAN. 2, 2014, IT OCCURRED AGAIN. WHILE DRIVING AT 55 MPH, MY VAN ALL OF A SUDDEN TURNED OFF. I LOST ALL POWER STEERING AND STRUGGLED TO GET THE VAN OFF THE ROAD. MY SPEED AT THAT TIME WAS AROUND 20 MPH. I PULLED INTO THE CARWASH, WHERE I WAS ABLE TO START THE VEHICLE AGAIN, AND THEN DROVE HOME. I WENT APROX. 1 MILE THAT TIME. WE PARKED THE VAN AND AS MY HUSBAND WAS GETTING OUT OF THE DRIVER SIDE, HE STRONGLY SMELLED SOMETHING ELECTRICAL BURNING. I WENT OVER TO THE DRIVER SIDE AND SMELLED THE SAME SMELL. THE VERY NEXT DAY I LEFT IN MY VAN AROUND NOON AND WITHIN A QUARTER OF MILE MY VAN DIED FOUR TIMES. I TURNED AROUND AND DROVE A QUARTER OF A MILE BACK, WITH THE VAN DYING THREE MORE TIMES. I FINALLY MADE IT HOME AND INFORMED THE DEALERSHIP OF THE PROBLEM. WITHIN 2 HOURS THEY BROUGHT ME A RENTAL. IT HAS BEEN EXACTLY TWO WEEKS THAT I HAVE BEEN WITHOUT MY VAN AND THEY ARE UNABLE TO FIX IT AS OF NOW. I CAN'T HELP BUT BELIEVE THAT MY VAN IS HAVING THE EXACT SAME ISSUES AS THE OTHER RECALLED 2010 DODGE CARAVANS.
