MY VAN OCCASIONALLY WILL NOT START. I REPLACED THE BATTERY AND SOON AFTER BEGAN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE VAN FAILING TO START. THEN I NOTICED THAT THE PASSENGER AIRBAG DASHBOARD COVER WAS OPEN. ALSO, THE PASSENGER REAR SLIDING DOOR DOES NOT LATCH PROPERLY. I HAVE TRIED USING BOTH THE REMOTE KEY LOCK AND MANUALLY PRESSING THE BUTTON TO CLOSE THE DOOR. IT TAKES SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO GET IT TO CLOSE AND LOCK. *TR

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 14V373000 (ELECTRICAL). THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED THE SAME FAILURE LISTED IN THE RECALL. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000.

THE DEALERSHIP IN DOTHAN, ALABAMA HAS REFUSED TO REPAIR THIS RECALL. THE EXCUSE THAT THEY ARE WAITING ON APPROVAL AND PARTS HAS BEEN USED SEVERAL TIMES. SOMEONE HAS TO TAKE IMMEDIATE ACTION. *TR

THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER SLIDING DOOR ON THE DRIVER SIDE OPENED INDEPENDENTLY WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION, AND BOTH FRONT WINDOWS WOULD RAISE AND LOWER WITHOUT THE WINDOW SWITCHES BEING PRESSED. WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 30 AND 35 MILES PER HOUR, AT AROUND 7:40PM, THE LOW BEAMS ON MY 2010 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN WENT COMPLETELY OFF. I PULLED OVER AND WAS UNABLE TO GET THEM BACK ON AND HAD TO DRIVE WITH MY HIGH BEAMS ON. TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC, EXPLAINED TO HIM EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED, BUT WHEN HE WENT TO CHECK THEM THEY TURNED ON AND HE FOUND NO VISIBLE PROBLEMS. THE MECHANIC TOLD US THAT HE HAD RESEARCHED ONLINE WHAT THE PROBLEM COULD BE AND FOUND THAT THERE WERE MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE. I AM NOW AFRAID TO DRIVE AT NIGHT OR IN THE RAIN AFTER SEEING ALL THE COMPLAINTS ONLINE ABOUT THIS SAME PROBLEM. I CAN ONLY IMAGINE WHAT COULD HAPPEN DRIVING AT NIGHT TIME ON A CURVY ROAD AND THE LIGHTS FAIL. *TR

FOR THE PAST YEAR MY VEHICLE WILL INTERMITTENTLY NOT START WHEN I TURN THE KEY. SOMETIMES THIS WILL HAPPEN FOR ONE TURN, SOMETIMES FOR MANY TURNS, SOMETIMES FOR 10 HOURS OF ATTEMPTED TURNS. WHEN IT DOES FINALLY START THE VEHICLE PERFORMS AS YOU WOULD EXPECT IT TO, AS THOUGH NOTHING IS WRONG. SOMETIMES THIS "NO START" ISSUE IS A DAILY EVENT/ MULTIPLE TIMES A DAY. SOMETIMES A WEEK WILL GO BY WITHOUT IT ACTING UP. IN THE BEGINNING IT WAS OCCURRING LESS FREQUENTLY. THE OCCURRENCE RATE AND SEVERITY HAS DEFINITELY INCREASED OVER TIME.
OCTOBER 2014. THE TIPM MALFUNCTIONED CAUSING AN ELECTRICAL FIRE THAT MELTED THE FUSE BOX AND ALL OF THE WIRE HARNESSES. THE ENTIRE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM HAD TO BE REPLACED AND COST $6,000 OUT OF POCKET. THE HORN, RADIO, LOSS OF LIGHTS, AND WIPER FLUID ACTIVATED CAUSING ME TO BE UNABLE TO SEE AT 50MPH. THEN I LOST ALL POWER AS SMOKE CAME INTO THE VEHICLE. I PUT THE VAN IN NEUTRAL AND TURNED OFF THE IGNITION KEY AND COASTED TO A SAFE AREA. I WAS UNABLE TO GET INTO MY WHEELCHAIR FROM THE DRIVERS SEAT AND WAS FORCED TO EXIT THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR. I HAVE A WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE VAN WITH A FOLDING RAMP OUT OF PASSENGER SLIDING DOOR. MY DRIVERS SEAT IS A 6 WAY POWER SEAT THE SLIDES BACK AND TURNS. I TRANSFER FROM MY WHEELCHAIR TO THE DRIVERS SEAT. LUCKILY I HAD SOMEONE WITH ME WHO COULD GET MY WHEELCHAIR AND BRING IT TO THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR SO I COULD GET OUT OF THE VAN. WE WERE EVEN LUCKIER THAT THE VAN DIDN'T BURST INTO FLAMES. WOODBURY DODGE OF NJ REFUSED TO WORK ON MY VAN MADE FALSE STATEMENTS, AND HAD ME TAKE IT ELSEWHERE. HEADLIGHTS TURN OFF UNEXPECTEDLY WHILE DRIVING. SERVICE TESTED HEADLIGHT SYSTEM AND DID NOT EXPERIENCE ANY ABNORMALITIES. PERFORMED DIAGNOSTIC SCAN AND FOUND STORED LOW BEAM AND HIGH BEAM "CONTROL CIRCUIT LOW". CLEARED STORED TROUBLE CODES AND REPLACED HEADLIGHT SWITCH AS A LIKELY CAUSE OF SYMPTOM DESCRIBED. HEADLIGHT TURNED OFF AGAIN UNEXPECTEDLY WHILE DRIVING IN THE RAIN. *TR
GAS CAP OFTEN FAILS TO CLOSE COMPLETELY. EVEN AFTER CAREFULLY CLOSING IT, YOU OFTEN FIND IT OPENED BY ITSELF. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT IN ORDER FOR THE ENGINE TO SHUT OFF, THE BATTERY NEEDED TO BE DISCONNECTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE IGNITION MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 118,933. IGNITION SWITCH BECAME "LOOSE" STARTED TO HAVE TROUBLE WITH THE SWITCH BEING INOPERABLE - COULD NOT START THE VAN WITH THE SWITCH. A COUPLE TIMES THE VEHICLE TURNED OFF WHILE IDLING TO WARM UP. *TR
JUST HAD 2010 VAN THAT WAS PURCHASED NEW IN FOR A ROUTINE OIL CHANGE. WAS TOLD THAT WE NEED TO REPLACE REAR BRAKE PADS, ROTORS AND CALIPERS. 61,000 MILES. THIS WILL BE THE 3RD SET OF PADS AND ROTORS ON THE REAR. BASED ON THE TYPE OF DRIVING WE DO THIS SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING. INTERESTINGLY ENOUGH AROUND 15,000 MILES CHRYSLER REPLACED THE FRONT ROTORS AND PADS BECAUSE OF A KNOWN ISSUE. IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY IT WAS BECAUSE OF A CALIPER STICKING ON THE FRONT. THESE PADS, ROTORS AND CALIPERS HAVE NOT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED OR SERVICED IN OVER 45,000 MILES BASED ON ALL THE FEEDBACK ONLINE AND A CONVERSATION WITH AN ASE CERTIFIED MECHANIC IT IS A VERY COMMON ISSUE. *TR

THE CAR STARTED SHUTTING OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF AN OFF RAMP OR JUST GOING DOWN A STREET OR COMING TO A STOP. LEFT ME WITHOUT POWER STEERING OR BRAKES. VERY SCARY. I HAVE TAKEN IT INTO THE DEALER AND AT FIRST THEY SAID IT WAS A GUNKY THROTTLE, BUT PAID FOR IT, BROUGHT IT HOME AND IT DIED AGAIN THAT SAME DAY. MECHANIC TOOK IT OUT AND HE SAID HE WAS GOING 30 MILES AN HOUR AND IT DIED ON HIM AND HE ALMOST WRECKED MY CAR. NO CODES ARE SHOWING OR NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, SO THEY HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIGURE OUT WHAT IS GOING ON WITH IT. PLUS THE TRANSMISSION SLAMS INTO MY FRONT END IF I AM GOING NORMAL SPEED AND COME TO A STOP AT THE BOTTOM OF MY HILL AND TOLD THEM ABOUT THIS LAST YEAR AND WAS TOLD THAT WAS NORMAL FOR THAT CAR(I DON'T THINK SO). I AM AT A LOSS AND ON A FIXED INCOME. WHERE DO I GO FROM HERE?

AIRBAGS: I'VE NEVER RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE ON THE AIRBAGS. SHOULD I HAVE? REAR QUARTER VENT WINDOW SWITCH: I HAVE TAKEN MY VAN TO 1ST COCHRAN AUTOMOTIVE IN NATRONA HEIGHTS, PA. THEY DID NOT HAVE THE PART TO REPLACE THE FAULTY ONE, SO THEY DISCONNECTED THE REAR WINDOW SWITCH. I HAVE RECEIVED SEVERAL RECALL NOTICES ON THIS PART SINCE, BUT 1ST COCHRAN NEVER HAS THE PART NEEDED IN STOCK. I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE THIS FIXED. THEY CANNOT TELL ME WHEN THE PART WILL COME IN, AND THEY WILL NOT CALL ME WHEN IT COMES IN, CAN YOU HELP ME? THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNAVAILABLE.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY IN NORTH EAST FLORIDA, I DROVE INTO A VERY HEAVY THUNDERSTORM. TRIED TO TURN ON WIPERS AND NOTHING HAPPENED. I WAS TRAVELING IN THE CENTER LANE AND COULD NOT MOVE OFF THE ROAD. MY VISIBILITY WAS REDUCED TO ZERO... I COULD NOT SEE PAST THE WINDSHIELD. I WAS FORCED TO SLOW DOWN RAPIDLY CAUSING PANIC WITH TRAFFIC BEHIND ME. I HAD TO DRIVE USING MY 2 SIDE MIRRORS TO GUIDE ME AND ONLY KNOWING THAT I WAS IN BETWEEN THE 2 WHITE LANE STRIPES. I EVENTUALLY MADE IT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD BUT COULD NOT PROCEED UNTIL THE RAIN STOPPED. 2 WEEKS LATER, I WAS ON OFFICIAL TRAVEL AND THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN, ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE SHOP CHANGED THE WIPER MOTOR COSTING $450 ON THE FIRST REPAIR. NOW THEY ARE SAYING THAT IT IS THE "TIPM, TOTALLY INTEGRATED POWER MODULE", WHICH WILL FOR THE PART ALONE COST NEARLY $1000. THE DEALERSHIP WILL NOT CREDIT THE FIRST REPAIR THAT THEY CHARGED AND GOT WRONG AND IT HAS BEEN 6 DAYS ON THIS REPAIR AND THEY STILL DO NOT HAVE THE PART NEEDED. I DID DO SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT THE TIPM HAS PENDING LAWSUITS AND CONTROLS MANY ITEMS IN THE VEHICLE THAT COULD CAUSE A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. RECOMMEND STAYING AWAY FROM THESE VEHICLES WITH TIPM ISSUES. RECOMMEND ALSO THAT GSA GET A REFUND ON THE FIRST REPAIR. *TR
VEHICLE HEADLIGHTS INTERMITTENTLY GO OUT DURING DRIVING OR STARTING OF VEHICLE. VARIOUS OTHER ELECTRICAL ISSUES INSIDE VEHICLE AS WELL OCCUR, FOR EXAMPLE: DASH LIGHTS GO OUT, RADIO LIGHTS GO OUT, ETC... LIGHTS MAY GO OUT WHILE PARKED OR WHILE DRIVING AND INTERMITTENT.
I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THE LONGEST TIME, FOR THE DODGE DEALERSHIP TO REPLACE THE PART, OR PARTS THAT THE RECALL PEOPLE, WAS RECALLING THE VEHICLE FOR. BUT INSTEAD, THEY KEEP TELLING ME THAT THE PART, OR PARTS HASN'T COME IN YET. I'VE BEEN HAVING ON GOING PROBLEMS SINCE FOREVER, WITH THIS VEHICLE DYING OUT ON ME, AND MY FAMILY;__TOO MANY TIMES. AND NOT ONLY THAT! BUT MY MONEY IS VERY IMPORTANT TO ME TOO. AND I DON'T LIKE PAYING OUT MY MONEY;__TOWARDS ANYTHING, THAT HAS BEEN A CONTINUOS PROBLEM FOR ME, AND MY FAMILY. THE IGNITION KEY WAS DISPLACED FROM THE RUN TO THE ACCESSORY POSITION WHILE DRIVING, CAUSING THE ENGINE TO SHUT OFF. I CALLED DODGE AND THEY STATED THIS CAR WAS ALREADY RECALLED FOR THIS PROBLEM IN 2011 AND ACCORDING TO THEM WAS FIXED AT THAT TIME. I BOUGHT THE CAR IN 2012 USED AND THIS PROBLEM REAPPEARED. *TR
A LOW TIRE INDICATOR APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD. PROCEEDED TO CHECK TIRE PRESSURE. WHILE UNSCREWING VALVE CAP FROM THE TIRE VALVE STEM THE VALVE STEM BROKE LEAVING ALL AIR OUT OF THE TIRE. NEVER HAVE EXPERIENCED ANYTHING LIKE THIS BEFORE. I TOOK THE TIRE OFF THE VEHICLE AND WENT TO THE LOCAL TIRE STORE. THE SERVICE PERSON TOLD ME THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH CHRYSLER VALVE STEMS THAT HAVE THE AIR PRESSURE SENSORS. HE SAID MANY PEOPLE HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS AND THAT I WAS FORTUNATE THAT IT HAPPENED AT HOME IN MY DRIVEWAY AND NOT IN THE CAR WASH OR ON THE ROAD WHERE ANY SEVERE IMPACT COULD BREAK THE STEM AND CAUSE A RAPID LOSS OF TIRE PRESSURE. I CALLED THE DODGE DEALER WONDERING IF THERE HAD BEEN A RECALL ON THESE VALVE STEMS. THERE HASN'T BEEN. THIS SHOULDN'T HAPPEN AND IS IN MY OPINION A SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED EITHER THROUGH CANCELLATION OF THIS MANDATE ON TIRE PRESSURE SENSORS OR ENSURING THAT THESE VALVE STEMS WILL NOT DETERIORATE TO THE POINT THAT PERSONS DRIVING THESE VEHICLES ARE PUT IN DANGER. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 123,000.

I LIVE IN TROY MICHIGAN AND ON A TRIP TO GO PICK UP MY TEENAGE DAUGHTER DRIVING.ON M-59 MY CAR STARTED EXPELLING COOLANT IN THE FORM.OF STEAM FROM UNDERNEATH THE HOOD AND INSIDE THE VEHICLE. I IMMEDIATE STOPPED AT THE CLOSEST AUTOMOTIVE STORE.LESS.THAN A MILE FROM WHERE IT STARTED THE INCIDENT. IT WAS DISCOVERED BY THE MECHANIC AT BELL TIRE THAT THE STEEL INTERCOOLER LINES THAT RUN TO THE INTERIOR HEATER HAD RUPTURED. I CONTACTED CHRYSLER AS STEEL TUBE SHOULD NOT FAIL UNLESS SOME MANUFACTURE ISSUE WAS OVERLOOKED. AS A SENIOR SYSTEMS ENGINEER MEAN TIME BEFORE FAILURE ON A COMPONENT LIKE THIS SHOULD HAVE NEVER HAPPENED AT THE LOW MILEAGE ON THE VEHICLE. THE CALIPERS LOCKED UP ON MY REAR DRIVER SIDE WHEEL. THERE WAS A TERRIBLE SMELL AND LOUD SOUND WHEN IT HAPPENED. I WAS OUT OF TOWN WITH MY DAUGHTER. I HAD TO LEAVE THE VAN ON A COUNTRY ROAD AND COME BACK FOR IT LATER IN ORDER TO LET IT COOL SO IT DIDN'T CATCH FIRE. THE COST TO REPAIR WAS $750 TO HAVE ALL 4 CALIPERS REPLACED. I HAD A 2006 DODGE CARAVAN THAT HAD THE SAME THING HAPPEN 3 YEARS AGO. WHEN IT HAPPENED TO ME IN 2011, IT SMOKED AND 911 WAS CALLED TO CHECK OUT THE ISSUE. HAVING HAD 2 OF THE SAME TYPES OF VANS HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM INDICATES TO ME THAT THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH DODGE'S DESIGN OF THEIR VEHICLES. THERE ARE INSTANCES OF THIS PROBLEM ALL OVER THE INTERNET WITH SEVERAL DODGE MODELS. A FRIEND OF MINE SEVERAL YEARS AGO HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH A BRAND NEW DODGE DAKOTA THAT SHE HAD FOR 2 WEEKS. THE WIRELESS IGNITION NODE MODULE WILL NOT TURN OFF COMPLETELY AND GETS STUCK IN THE ACCESSORY MODE. I MUST TURN THE VEHICLE BACK ON, PUT IT IN GEAR, AND THEN BACK TO PARK SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE THE KEY WILL FINALLY GO TO THE OFF STAGE AND I CAN PULL THE KEY OUT. THIS HAPPENS VERY OFTEN. I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR THE WIN MODULE (R03/NHTSA 14V-373) AND UPON CALLING THE ONLY DODGE DEALERSHIP IN MY AREA, I HAVE BEEN PUT ON A WAIT LIST BECAUSE THE DEALERSHIP IS ONLY RECEIVING TWO TO THREE REPAIR KITS AT A TIME AND I MAY BE WAITING SEVERAL MONTHS FOR A REPAIR. THE RECALL STATES, "THIS COULD CAUSE UNINTENDED ENGINE SHUT OFF AND INCREASE THE RISK OF A CRASH." THIS SHOULD BE HANDLED IMMEDIATELY, BUT IT IS NOT.
