TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH, A THUMPING NOISE WAS HEARD UNDER THE HOOD OF THE VEHICLE. AS THE CONTACT CONTINUED TO DRIVE, THE ENGINE BEGAN TO REV AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS BEGAN TO FLICKER AND SMOKE APPEARED UNDER THE HOOD AND THROUGH THE VENTS INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CONNECTING ROD FRACTURED, THERE WAS A HOLE THROUGH THE ENGINE BLOCK, AND THE WATER AND OIL LINES WERE SEVERED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED. THE CONTACT WAS UNSURE IF A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT'S SPOUSE, A CERTIFIED MECHANIC, DIAGNOSED THAT THE CONNECTING ROD WAS FRACTURED AND BLEW A HOLE THROUGH THE ENGINE. THE ENGINE, MOTORS, COMPUTER BOARD, AND BRAKES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 54,800.
WE PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE USED AND HAVE HAD NO MAJOR ISSUES WITH IT. RECENTLY, AT LOW SPEEDS (LESS THAN 35MPH) THE VEHICLE WILL STOP RUNNING. THE INDICATIONS ARE: -CAR IS MOVING FROM BUT SLOWS WITHOUT BRAKING BECAUSE POWER IS NOT BEING SUPPLIED TO MAKE THE CAR GO. -THE TACHOMETER DROPS TO ZERO, BECAUSE THE ENGINE IS NOT RUNNING. -THE ETS (ELECTRONIC TRACTION SYSTEM) LIGHT TURNS ON -VEHICLE IS HARDER TO STEER BECAUSE POWER STEERING IS NOT AVAILABLE WHEN ENGINE IS NOT RUNNING. THE REMEDY IS TO: -PULL OVER, PUT IN PARK AND START FROM THE GET GO. -POP THE VEHICLE INTO NEUTRAL AND START ON THE GO I NOTICED THERE WAS AN OPEN RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE TO REPLACE THE WIM (NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V373000) WITH ONE OF THE SYMPTOMS BEING THE IGNITION KEY INADVERTENTLY MOVES TO THE ACCESSORY OR OFF POSITION WHILE RUNNING. I TOOK IT IN TO OUR LOCAL DODGE DEALER AND THEY PERFORMED THE RECALL FOR US. WITHIN A FEW DAYS, THE EXACT SAME THING WAS HAPPENING. SO WE TOOK IT BACK. THE SAME DEALER DID THE FOLLOWING: -CLEARED THE COMPUTER CODES TO HAVE A CLEAN CAPTURE -UPDATED OUR PCM, APPARENTLY THERE WAS AN FLASH UPGRADE. WE DROVE IT OVER THE WEEKEND, THINGS SEEMED FINE. BUT THEN, IT DID IT AGAIN. TWICE IN THE SPAN OF ABOUT 20 MINUTES. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER TO SEE WHAT THE CODES WERE. NOW THEY HAVE DETERMINED: -THE TPIM IS THE PROBLEM -AND THE INVERTER IS THROWING CODES TOO, SO THAT PROBABLY NEEDS REPLACED. I PAID THEM FOR THE DIAGNOSTIC AND TOLD THEM I'M GOING TO SIT ON THIS PENDING $1500 REPAIR. AFTER DOING SOME WEB RESEARCH I FOUND OUT THAT CHRYSLER VEHICLES WITH A TPIM PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE COMMON PLACE, YET THERE HAS BEEN A SMALL RECALL FOR CERTAIN VEHICLES. I AM MOSTLY POSTING THIS "COMPLAINT" TO HELP GET A RECALL ISSUED AND TO SET UP A SITUATION WHERE I CAN GET REIMBURSED, SHOULD I GO AHEAD WITH THE FIX AND A RECALL IS ISSUED

THE VANS ENGINE SHUTS OFF WHENEVER IT WANTS. DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD IT JUST SHUTS DOWN, ALL ACCESSORIES CONTINUE TO WORK SUCH AS FANS RADIO ETC. THE STEERING LOCKS UP BECAUSE THE ENGINE SHUTS DOWN. AS SOON AS I CAN STOP I PUT IT IN PARK AND TURN THE KEY. THE CAR IMMEDIATELY STARTS AND I CONTINUE TO DRIVE. THERE ARE NO WARNING LIGHTS ON AND NOTHING FLASHES ON THE DASH WHEN IT STALLS. IT JUST TURNS OFF AS IF I HAVEN'T TURNED THE KEY ALL THE WAY TO RUN.
THE SWITCH WAS FIXED AND KEYS REPLACED BUT AFTER THAT THE CAR STALLED THREE TIMES(11/27/2015,1/6/16 AND 1/7/16) AND STOPPED COMPLETELY AND LOST POWER AND STEERING ABILITY. THE CAR STARTED TO SLOW DOWN FIRST AND NOT BEING ABLE TO ACCELERATE UNTIL EVERYTHING WAS DEAD DURING WHICH THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY PROGRAM INDICATOR FLASHED.THE ROAD WAS DRY (NO SNOW OR ICE). THE SPEED WAS 25-30 MPH IN TWO OCCASIONS AND 40 MPH LAST TIME.

KEY CAME DISENGAGED WHILE DRIVING AFTER HITTING A POT HOLE IN THE ROAD.

I'VE BEEN WAITING SINCE JUNE 9, 2015 TO BE CALLED FOR THE WIN R03/NHTSA 1V-373 RECALL. SINCE THEN I'VE BEEN EXPERIENCING THE FOLLOWING: TRY TO START MY VAN AND IT WON'T START. HAVE TO WAIT, SOMETIMES UP TO AN HOUR TO TRY AGAIN.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH DURING RAIN WEATHER CONDITIONS, THERE WAS A OBJECT ON THE ROAD THAT CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO SWERVE INTO THE NEXT TRAFFIC LANE AND CRASH. THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER FRONTAL AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE VEHICLE PROCEEDED TO CRASH INTO A POLE AND CAME TO A STOP WHEN IT ROLLED OVER. THE CONTACT SUFFERED INJURIES TO THE HEAD, THE BACK, THE KNEES, AND THE HANDS THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A STORAGE FACILITY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 67,000.
WHILE DRIVING THE VAN WILL JUST SHUT OFF THEREFORE LOSING ALL POWER STEERING AND BRAKES. THE ONLY WARNING LIGHT THAT COMES ON IS THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON COUNTRY ROADS AND IN THE CITY. SOMETIMES IT WILL DO IT WHILE TURNING A CURVE AND OTHER TIMES JUST DRIVING STRAIGHT DOWN THE ROAD. THE CURVES ARE THE MOST DANGEROUS SINCE WE LOSE ALL POWER. IT HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES IN ONE DAY AND SOMETIMES NOT FOR DAYS. WE HAVE HAD THE IGNITION SWITCH RECALL PERFORMED WITH NO RESULTS TO THE PROBLEM. WE HAVE HAD IT AT 3 DIFFERENT PLACES TRYING TO FIND A SOLUTION WITH NO RESULTS. THEY SAY BECAUSE NO WARNING LIGHTS COME ON THERE IS NO WAY TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDS RESOLVED IMMEDIATELY. I KNOW WE ARE NOT THE ONLY ONES WITH THIS PROBLEM.

IF THE VEHICLE DROVE OVER A BUMP IN THE ROAD, THE KEY WOULD DISLODGE AND THE ENGINE WOULD STALL OR SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING. THE VEHICLE HAS UNEXPECTEDLY SHUT OFF (I.E. GONE DEAD) 30-40 TIMES IN THE PAST 9 MONTHS. I PREVIOUSLY TOOK THE VEHICLE TO DODGE DEALERSHIP AND THEY DID NOT FIND ANY PROBLEM WITH THE IGNITION. THERE WERE NO ERROR CODES IN THE VEHICLE COMPUTER. DEARLERSHIP SUGGESTED REMOVING ALL EXTRA KEYS/KEY RINGS...SO DID SO. WHEN IT SHUTS OFF, THE ENGINE STOPS RUNNING, LOSS OF POWER STEERING, LOSS OF POWER BRAKES, AND IM GUESSING THE AIR BAGS. ALTHOUGH THE VAN PREDOMINANTLY SHUTS OFF AT LOW SPEEDS (10-15 MPH) SHORTLY AFTER STARTING THE CAR, IT NOW OCCURS MORE FREQUENTLY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS (60 MPH) AND AFTER THE CAR HAS BEEN RUNNING FOR 2 HOURS. THE SHUT DOWN HAS GOT TO BE ELECTRONIC AS THE ENGINE DOES NOT SPUTTER (THE ENGINE AND ALL ELECTRONICS GO DEAD). ALSO WE USE ONLY THE KEY IN THE IGNITION (NO KEY RING OR EXTRA KEY WEIGHT) AND THE KEY DOES NOT MOVE OUT OF THE ON POSITION. THIS ROLLING DEATH TRAP NEEDS TO BE RECALLED AND REPAIRED IMMEDIATELY.

WHILE MY WIFE WAS TRAVELING IN A HIGHWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH THE SPARE WHEEL SUSPENDER CABLE BROKE. THAT CAUSED A LOUD NOISE AND A VERY ROUGH RIDE BECAUSE THE SPARE WHEEL WAS STUCK UNDER THE MINIVAN. AFTER DRAGGING THE SPARE WHEEL AND THE STEEL TRAY THAT SUPPORT IT UNDER THE MINIVAN FOR APPROXIMATELY 200 METERS, THE WHEEL AND TRAY EVENTUALLY GOT LOOSE AND ENDED UP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY. INCREDIBLY AS IT MAY SOUND THERE WERE NO OTHER VEHICLES IN THE HIGHWAY IN SAME DIRECTION AS MY WIFE AT THAT TIME AND SHE WAS ABLE TO BACK UP THE MINIVAN TO A SAFE PLACE, WALK TO THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY PICK UP THE WHEEL AND SAVE IT INSIDE THE MINIVAN. AFTERWARDS MY WIVES CONTINUED TO HER DESTINATION WERE SHE PARKED ON A VERY UNEVEN STREET. AT THAT MOMENT A PLASTIC PROTECTIVE COVER FELL OFF FROM WHERE THE SPARE TIRE USED TO BE UNDER THE MINIVAN. WHEN I INSPECTED THE MINIVAN I COULD NOT FIND ANY TRACE OF THE STEEL CABLE THAT SUSPENDS THE WHEEL UNDER THE MINIVAN. UPON TURNING BOLT THAT IS USED TO LOWER THE SPARE TIRE THE BROKEN CABLE SHOWED UP UNDER THE MINIVAN. I WOULD SUSPECT THAT THE STEEL CABLE BROKE AT THE END TERMINAL BECAUSE THAT EXACT FAILURE MODE HAD ALREADY OCCURRED WITH THE PARKING BRAKE STEEL CABLE AND I HAD TO REPLACE IT. THE PLASTIC COVER THAT HAD FALLEN WAS PART OF THE ASSEMBLY WERE THE SPARE TIRE IS SANDWICHED BETWEEN THAT COVER AND A METAL TRAY. THE SPARE TIRE WAS IN THE STEEL CARRIER AND NEVER GOT LOOSE EVEN WHEN IT WAS STUCK UNDER THE MINIVAN.

PLEASE RECALL 2010 CARAVANS AND ALL OTHER MODELS THAT ARE HAVING THIS ISSUE! AT LEAST I COULD GET DODGE TO GIVE ME A LOANER UNTIL THE PROBLEM GETS FIXED, I CAN'T AFFORD TO RENT A FAMILY CAR AT 40 DOLLARS A DAY!

WE CALLED A LOCAL DEALER TO FIND OUT WHO TO COMPLAIN TO AND WE WERE TOLD WE NEEDED TO VERIFY THE PART WAS ON BACKORDER, WHICH WE DID AND IT IS. CHRYSLER TOLD US THAT THEY ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE TO CORRECTING THE MATTER AND ALL ATTEMPTS TO FIX THE ISSUE ARE OUR RESPONSIBILITY.
