TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FUEL PUMP FAILED TO SHUT OFF AFTER REMOVING THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION. AS A RESULT, THE BATTERY WAS DRAINED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR DRIVER SIDE TIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.
BASES ON WHAT I FOUND WITH MY LOCAL MECHANIC AND ONLINE MY VAN A FAULTY TIPM. DODGE CURRENTLY HAS A RECALL OUT FOR OTHER VEHICLE WITH A BAD TIPM BUT CLAIMS MY VAN IN NOT AFFECTED BY IT. MY VAN HAS HARD STARTS OR IT WILL START THE STALL. IT TAKES ABOUT 8-10 TIMES BEFORE IT WILL START AND STAY RUNNING. ALSO MY FUEL PUMP WILL STAY RUNNING EVEN AFTER I TAKE THE KEY OUT. IF I DO NOT REMOVE THE FUEL PUMP FUSE THE PUMP WILL UNTIL THE BATTERY DIES. *TR

MY VAN WILL TRY TO START BUT IT JUST KEEPS TRYING TO TURN OVER. I HAVE TO MANUALLY TURN THE KEY BACK OFF AND WAIT, IT USUALLY TAKES ABOUT 3 TIMES FOR IT TO ACTUALLY START. IT MAKES THE CLICKING NOISE LIKE ITS A STARTER OR BATTERY BUT BOTH HAVE BEEN CHECKED AND ARE FINE. *TR

2011 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN 3.6L - PROBLEMS BEGIN AROUND SEPTEMBER WITH ISSUES CRANKING THE VEHICLE. THE ENGINE WOULD TURN OVER BUT IT WAS HAVING TROUBLE PICKING UP THE FUEL. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS THE VAN WOULD START AND RUN FINE IN THE BEGINNING. THE ISSUE PROGRESSIVELY GOT WORSE AND MORE COMPLEX. ON SEVERAL OCCASION WHILE DRIVING, THE VEHICLE LOST FUEL PRESSURE AND STALLED MOMENTARILY , THEN PICKED UP FUEL AGAIN. IN NOVEMBER THE FUEL PUMP BEGIN NOT SHUTTING OFF AFTER THE IGNITION HAD BEEN SWITCHED OFF AND OTHER TIMES IT WOULD NOT PUMP AT ALL. AROUND THE FIRST OF JANUARY THE VEHICLE STRANDED US ON VACATION FOR 7 HOURS ONLY TO CRANK ONCE WE JUMPED THE VAN WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE. AFTER THAT THE ONLY WAY I COULD START THE VEHICLE IN THE MORNING IS BY JUMPING IT WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE. THIS WEEK, THINKING THAT THERE WAS A SHORT IN THE FUEL PUMP I REPLACED IT ($300.00 PARTS ONLY) AND THE PROBLEM CONTINUED. THE FUEL PUMP FUSE (M25) WAS NOT BLOWN BUT THERE WAS NO POWER ON IT. I BYPASSED THE FUEL PUMP FUSE WITH THE REAR POWER ACCESSORY FUSE (M7) AND THE PUMP CAME ON WITH THE IGNITION SWITCH. WHILE THE FUSE IS BYPASSED THE VEHICLE STARTS AND RUNS FINE. AFTER RESEARCHING THE PROBLEM ONLINE IT APPEARS THAT I MAY HAVE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE TIPM. HOPING FOR A RECALL TO HELP WITH THIS COSTLY ISSUE. *TR

THE CHARGE LIGHT CAME ON. SHUT THE ENGINE OFF. RESTARTED ENGINE AND THE CHARGER LIGHT, TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS CAME ON. TRIED DRIVING AND THE ENGINE WOULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF 1ST GEAR. TOOK THE VAN TO THE DODGE DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME THE ALTERNATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *TR
ABOUT A YEAR AGO THE VEHICLE STARTED SPORADICALLY NOT COMING ON. BATTERY WAS REPLACED, THAT WAS NOT THE ISSUE, ALTERNATOR WAS TESTED, THAT WAS NOT THE ISSUE?ABOUT 3-4 MONTHS AGO THE PROBLEM GOT MUCH WORSE AND WOULD SOMETIMES TAKE 2-5 ATTEMPTS BEFORE THE CAR WOULD START. SOMETIMES IT WOULD START THEN IMMEDIATELY STALL. LAST WEEK IT JUST STOPPED RUNNING; WOULD NOT TURN ON AT ALL. TURNS OUT IT IS THE TIPM THAT HAS GONE BAD NOT ALLOWING THE FUEL RELAY TO WORK PROPERLY. THE PART IS AROUND $1200 TO REPLACE, IF YOU CAN EVEN FIND ONE. CHRYSLER/DODGE HAS RECALLED THIS IN VARIOUS OTHER VEHICLES BUT STILL REFUSES TO RECALL IT IN THE 2011-2012 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. WE HAVE FRIENDS WHO ALSO HAVE A 2011 GRAND CARAVAN AND WERE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS BEFORE US. THEIR DEALER REPLACE ALL SORTS OF OTHER PARTS ON THE CAR BEFORE THEY TOOK IT TO A SHOP THAT TOLD THEM IT WAS THE TIPM; THE DODGE DEALERSHIP SAID THEY DOUBTED THAT WAS THE ISSUE BUT IF IT WAS THEY WOULD REPLACE IT FOR THEM AT NO COST. GUESS WHAT? IT TURNS OUT THAT WAS THE ISSUE AND NOW IT HAS BEEN REPLACED AND THEY HAVE NOT HAD AN ISSUE SINCE. I HAVE SINCE, AFTER MUCH RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET, MADE A BYPASS FOR THE VEHICLE; WHICH WILL WORK TEMPORARILY BUT IT WILL NOT BE A PERMANENT FIX. I WANT THEM TO FIX MY VEHICLE! *JS

IN AUGUST 2014 OUR DODGE GRAND CARAVAN (2011) BEGAN HAVING PROBLEMS STARTING UP IMMEDIATELY. THIS CONTINUED AND PROGRESSIVELY GOT WORSE AS TIME WENT ON. WE WERE FORCED TO TRY AND COAX THE VAN TO START BY TURNING THE IGNITION BACK AND FORTH FROM ACCY (ACCESSORY) TO START REPEATEDLY, AT TIMES FOR UP TO 30-45 MINUTES BEFORE IT WOULD START. WE EXPERIENCED THE VAN'S ENGINE SHUTTING OFF FOR NO REASON AT STOPLIGHTS AND IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING. AT ONE POINT, THE FUEL PUMP WOULD NOT TURN OFF EVEN THOUGH THE VAN WAS OFF AND THE KEY REMOVED FROM THE IGNITION. WE WERE FORCED TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY EVERY TIME WE GOT OUT OF THE VEHICLE SO AS NOT TO CAUSE POSSIBLE OVERHEATING OF THE FUEL PUMP. ONCE THE FUEL PUMP STOPPED RUNNING WE WERE UNABLE TO START THE VAN AT ALL, LEAVING MY STRANDED IN MY VEHICLE UNTIL I COULD BE PICKED UP. BECAUSE THIS IS OUR ONLY VEHICLE WE WERE FORCED TO GET THE TIPM REPLACED WHICH COST $1114.68. *TR
TROUBLE STARTING VEHICLE, DRAINING BATTERY, FUEL PUMP CONTINUOUSLY RUNNING AFTER VEHICLE IS SHUT OFF AND KEY IS REMOVED FROM IGNITION. I HAVE LOOKED UP COMPLAINTS ONLINE AND HUNDREDS OF OTHER OWNERS HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM FOR FAULTY TIPM.
AFTER ARRIVING HOME FROM A 5 MILE TRIP, AFTER ABOUT 15 MINUTES OF DRIVING, PULLED IN DRIVEWAY, TURNED OFF VEHICLE, SAW SMOKE COMING FROM BUTTON ON AC UNIT WHICH CONTROLS THE SPEED OF AIRFLOW FOR THE AC. THE SMOKE INCREASED, SMELLED OF CHEMICALS AND WAS CLEARLY AN ELECTRICAL FIRE BURNING THROUGH AC KNOB. FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED. DASH REMOVED. FIRE WAS RECREATED BY FIREMAN TWICE. AC FUSES WERE DISCONNECTED FROM BATTERY BY FIREMAN. VAN WAS TOWED BY AAA TO DODGE DEALERSHIP FOR FURTHER INSPECTION/REPAIR. RENTAL CAR WAS PROVIDED BY DODGE AND COVERED FOR 5 DAYS. TODAY IS THE 5TH DAY AND DODGE IS STILL WORKING ON CAR. *TR

BONIFACE HEIRS DODGE IN MERRITT ISLAND, FLORIDA DISABLE THE REAR QUARTER WINDOW SWITCH DUE TO A FIRE HAZARD - THE SWITCH CATCHING FIRE - WELL IT HAS BEEN 7 MONTHS AND THEY KEEP SAYING DODGE HAS NOT SENT THEM A SWITCH - ONE REASON I BOUGHT THE VAN WAS THE REAR QUARTER VENT WINDOWS - MY HUBBY SMOKES AND IT IS GOOD VENTILATION ALONG WITH HIS PASSENGER WINDOW OPEN - WELL NOW THE SMOKE STAYS IN THE VAN - AND WHEN I CALL OR GO IN AND ASK ABOUT THE SWITCH - I GET THE RUN AROUND AND I CAN'T AFFORD TO BUY ANOTHER VAN - AND IF I DO THEN IT WILL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM - ALL I REALLY WANT IS A GOOD SWITCH AND IT FIXED SO THAT MY VAN WILL WORK LIKE IT DID WHEN I BOUGHT IT. IN MY 2011 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN, WHILE TURNING THE KEY TO THE ON POSITION TO START THE CAR THE KEY GETS STUCK IN THE STARTING/ON POSITION MAKING THE CAR NOT TURN OVER BUT MAKE NOISE AS IF IM TRYING TO START THE CAR, WHILE ITS ALREADY STARTED & IT'S NOT. I PHYSICALLY HAVE TO TURN THE KEY BACK TO THE OFF POSITION BECAUSE IT WON'T SNAP BACK BY ITSELF. & KEEP TRYING AGAIN UNTIL IT WILL FINALLY START. ALSO WHILE DRIVING THE CAR, IT WILL SHUT OFF WITH NO WARNING CAUSING LOSS OF POWER STEERING, LEAVING ME TO FORCE THE CAR TO A SAFE ZONE TO PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND TRY TO TURN THE CAR ON. WHILE GOOGLING THIS PROBLEM I SEE THERE'S A PROBLEM WITH THE WIND MODULAR/DETENT RING/IGNITON SWITCH BEING RECALLED IN 2008-2010 MODELS. I TOOK IT TO DODGE DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT EXPLAINED THE PROBLEM AND THEY RAN A DIAGNOSIS, AND THEY CLEANED OUT THE IGNITION SWITCH AND UPDATED THE SYSTEM,AND TOLD ME TO REMOVE MY CAR KEY FROM MY KEY CHAIN AND THEN TOLD ME NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE CAR. EVERYDAY SINCE THEN THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE GETTING WORST. AND NATURALLY I'M OUTSIDE OF MY 36,000 LIMITED WARRANTY BY 2 MONTHS BY DATE AND 10 MILES OVER. ON JULY 8, 2014 WE HAD THE VAN OIL CHANGED WITH DEALERSHIP. WAS TOLD AFTER THE SERVICE THAT THEY DISCONNECTED THE REAR QUARTER VENT WINDOW SWITCH DUE TO SAFETY RECALL. THE PARTS ARE FINALLY COMING IN VERY SLOWLY AND WE WERE TOLD TODAY BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT THEY WILL NOTIFY US (WE ARE ON THE LIST). THIS STARTED IN JULY OF 2014. WE NOTICED THAT AT FIRST THE WIPERS WOULD STOP RANDOMLY AND AFTER SHUTTING THEM OFF THEY WOULD NOT GO TO THEIR HOME PLACE. THIS APPEARED VERY RANDOM AND DID NOT ALARM US. BUT WHAT DID WAS THE VEHICLE WOULD RANDOMLY NOT START. IT WOULD CRANK BUT NOT TURN OVER. WE WOULD TURN THE KEY BACK OFF THEN TRY AND START AGAIN AND IT WOULD BE FINE. HOWEVER FOR THE LAST 2 WEEKS THIS HAS INCREASINGLY WORSENED. THE VEHICLE WILL TAKE UP TO 15 MINUTES TO START. IT WILL SOMETIMES START AND DIE, THEN NOT START FOR SEVERAL MINUTES. AFTER HAVING A LOCAL SHOP CHECK THIS ISSUE OUT THEY HAVE DETERMINED THAT THE TOTALLY INTEGRATED POWER MODULE IS FAULTY AND WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE. AT A COST OF $505 FOR THE PART AND SEVERAL MORE HUNDRED DOLLARS FOR THE LABOR THIS HAS BEEN AN EXTREMELY COSTLY FIX. *TR

I HAVE A 2011 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN WITH ABOUT 52,000 MILES ON IT. ON DAY THE RADIO JUST WENT OFF AND THEN TURNED BACK ON. IT DID THIS MULTIPLE TIMES BEFORE WE SENT IT IN TO THE SHOP. THEN ONE DAY IT WOULD NOT START. IT WOULD TURN OVER BUT WOULD NOT FIRE UNTIL I TRIED IT 6 TO 10 TIMES AND THEN IT WOULD START. WE TOOK IT IN TO THE DEALER FOR A MISFIRE IN CYLINDER #2 ( RECALL ON LEFT HEAD) BUT IT STARTED ALL THE TIME FOR THEM, UNTIL I WENT TO LEAVE, AND THEN NO START. THE TECH WAS ABLE TO DUPLICATE IT AND SAID WE WOULD TROUBLE SHOOT IT. A WEEK LATER THEY CALLED AND SAID IT IS MORE THEN LIKELY THE TIPM CAUSING THE PROBLEM AND THE PART IS BACKORDER NATIONALLY AND WOULD COST ME $1037 PLUS TAX FOR THE PARTS AND LABOR. MY VAN'S AIR CONDITIONING WASN'T WORKING SO I TOOK IT INTO THE DEALER...WHEN THEY GAVE IT BACK I HAD COLD AIR IN THE FRONT BUT NOT IN THE BACK, I TOOK IT BACK AGAIN, THEY FIXED THE AIR FOR THE FRONT BUT THEN THE FAN WASN'T WORKING AT ALL IN THE BACK VENTS, I TOOK IT BACK A 3 RD TIME FINALLY IT SEEMED FIXED, SINCE THEN I HAVE LOST CONTROL OF USING THE BUTTONS ON MY STEERING WHEEL, CRUISE CONTROL ONLY WORKS WHEN IT WANTS TO, AND MY VEHICLE WILL TURN OVER BUT HAS A HARD TIME STARTING, THEY HAVE CHANGED OUT THE STARTER MESSED WITH MY WIRING AND CHANGED OUT MY BATTERY, IT STILL ISN'T FIXED. NOW MY VENTS IN THE BACKSEATS ARE NOT BLOWING AIR AGAIN, THEY REPLACED THE STARTER, THE BATTERY AND STILL I AM HAVING ALL THESE PROBLEMS. COULD THIS HAVE TO DO WITH A RECALL THAT HASN'T BEEN DONE ON MY VEHICLE? ALSO I BOUGHT THE VAN NEW AND HAVE HAD A FEW PAINT JOBS TO FIX THE RUBBING OF THE SIDE DOORS THAT CAUSE MY PAINT TO RUB OFF ABOVE THE WHEEL WELLS, I FINALLY GAVE UP ON HAVING IT FIXED BUT I KNOW THIS IS AN ERROR ON CHRYSLER'S SIDE AS I CAN SHOW YOU ATLEAST TWO MORE GRAND CARAVAN'S SAME YEAR WITH THE SAME RUBBED OFF PAINT BECAUSE OF SIDE DOORS.
